Character Arc: Imogene von Valancius

@bnbc tagged me to present the story arc of my RT! Thank you :D

Hers is a story of falling from grace, getting back up only to start down a road of moral descent. Imogene lived long enough to become the villain - first in her own eyes and then in the Imperium's.

Imogene Aeos Venria de Vahl af Calixis was born into power and privilege, and it was never a burden for her. Armed with her unwavering faith in the God-Emperor and a charming smile she reached what she believed was the pinnacle of her career with claiming governance over a planet back in the Calixis Sector.

And she made it look easy, so easy in fact that a long line of political enemies figured they could do it instead of her. Perhaps it was one of them that finally managed to stage a coup, maybe it was an unrelated event, or maybe a ploy of Theodora herself, but Imogene was abducted one night from her estate, no ransom was made, no demands presented. Just her, mistreated and tortured to the brink of her life, to be finally rescued by the von Valancius forces and informed of the summons made by Lady Theodora.

First step down on her new road.

She was more than capable of filling the shoes of her esteemed predecessor and done so gladly, but the toll was high and Imogene has not recovered from her previous ordeal before the next one came. Surviving Commorragh was the next step of her journey that left her sanity maimed. From there, it was a constant battle with nightmares plaguing her sleep as well as waking hours.

So it was pushing on, pushing forward, unthinkable to stop, almost heretical to think about taking a step back. And she did great things. To anyone outside her closest retinue she must have seemed like a blessing sent from the Emperor himself, His chosen, defeating all enemies of humanity with one brilliant victory after another.

But behind each success stood a secret, each a step downward. The Aeldari defeated with the help of a fellow Rogue Trader who succumbed to the whispers of Chaos. Footfall 'secured' for Kasballica with the blood of another of Imogene's peers. Her alliance with Xavier Calcazar, forged with a heresy of relying on the C'tan Shard. 

But it lasted like this for decades. People around her changed, the powers shifted, but in the end she leaves behind a prosperous and stable protectorate, if corrupt and run on shady dealings. She herself will be remembered as a lunatic, despite her accomplishments. Lost in her own world, laughing at things only she seemed to witness.

But it's not her worry anymore, nothing is. Imogene is done with her duties, done with keeping secrets, and done with the Imperium. She disappears the same day Lord Inquisitor Heinrix van Calox does, who himself barely escapes the trial his acolytes wanted him to face. Very few believe it was a coincidence, but there is little that can be done about it - wherever they decided to run off to, they left no trace to follow. 

Branded traitors and heretics, they took the last step of this journey together.

He's a poor little meow meow pirate that hates water and getting his feet wet. His tabaxi quirk is he knocks things off of tables when he's irritated. He's a disaster bisexual who will flirt with you and then get horribly embarrassed and run away. He once climbed up a 100 foot stone wall just using his claws, and then immediately beefed it trying to go up some stairs. He helped kill Strahd von Zarovich by poisoning him. The only reason he wears shoes is because his party makes him.

Procyoneras Lotoran Leracunin III, Destroyer of Worlds and Bane of Galaxies (by @flyingbooks42 for Three Raccoons in a Trenchcoat)

Is a raccoon who wants to destroy the universe (and is extremely over-dramatic about that), and has ultimate failswag. I've played this character across two different games, and in the first one (a one-shot) they microwaved themselves on-purpose because they thought that the microwave was a doomsday machine operated from the inside. The second game (played across two sessions) was where they really started to get their failswag, since they failed almost all of their rolls to a statistically highly improbable degree. They literally failed at running in the right direction - towards the robot dog guardian rather than towards the alien ship. One of the few successes they had was at disassembling a robot dog, which they turned into a helmet that they think makes them look like a fearsome destroyer of worlds, but put it on badly so that they can't see anything plus it makes them look silly. After that, when trying to go to the alien ship they accidentally ran into a portal, which teleported them to a dimension occupied by an eldritch dragon. They immediately (still unable to see) used silly little raccoon gestures (which in their mind was a grand proclamation) to request allies in destroying the world - nay, the universe - nay, the multiverse itself - and the dragon interpreted it as a mating dance. They continued (mis)communicating with the dragon and the dragon decided to marry them, all the time thinking that it was their new ally in destroying the world (ah, "marriage" must be part of its kind's pre-world-destuction customs). Also, the dragon came to believe that destroying worlds was a common honeymoon custom. At the marriage itself, they thought that the wedding clothes were armor (they were made of mutant-eldritch-australian-spider silk, so I guess they kind of were) and thought that all of the wedding guests were their legion of doom. Through all of the entire game, they rolled barely any successes at all, even partial successes, despite partial success being meant to be statistically likely, but they did fail forwards into failstardom.

The Seamstress

(This is a fic about a fan character I just thought of - got a bolt of inspiration listening to one of my favorite Disney villain songs and thinking about how Kremy's based off a Disney villain. I'm sure you'll guess soon enough who this little ladys based off of lol)

A glamorous, shimmering carriage glided down a muddy path, splashing mud off to the sides as the wheels grinding through the thick puddles, causing the woman inside to shriek and pull the silken curtains of the windows together tightly.

"Ah, positively ghastly! How can these people live in such squalor?" She said with a huff, pulling away from the window and crossing her arms. The woman was a tall, slender, and absolutely gorgeous elven woman, her long thin arms laced in silken gloves that went down to her elbows and ended in fur trimmings, her fingers covered in rings that jangled together akin to skeletal fingers when she moved them, a long fur boa in a snow leopard pattern circled around her neck along with a necklace of pearls, and a pair of albino gator skin heels around her dainty feet.

The man sat beside her in the carriage was quite different; he wore a simple tuxedo, with tailcoats that trailed off the side of his seat, also elven but shorter and plumper than elves usually were, partially curled up in his seat as he looked up to the woman, who despite what many would assume upon first glance was in fact his wife, with wide, anxious eyes.

"I...t-think perhaps t-they're quite u-used to it, d-darling." He said quietly, his voice shaking nearly as much as the carriage as the terrain got rougher, his wife huffing in response. "I was told these people were masters of luxury and fashion! How could such people live in these conditions?!"

Her husband merely frowned and looked away; he wasn't good at soothing his wife's temper, but perhaps that was for the best, her temper was one of her dearest tools.

Eventually, the carriage came to a stop, the once pristine and pearly wheels now caked in muck from the rough trip. The fellow manning the horses at the front of the carriage hopped off his perch and opened the door for the pair, barely even getting a glance from the fair lady within as he laid out his coat in front of the puddle before them as to not dirty the noble's shoes.

"Mr. and Mrs. Von Truce, the lovely city of Agwe!" The servant declared as he gestured his arms outward towards the city. Mrs. Von Truce looked the city over for a moment, squinting as she scrutinized every little detail of the area. Well, the air smelled positively foul, though she supposed that came with being located in such a wretched swamp as this. The neon was garish, in such clashing colors, and far too much of it, glaring out from nearly every sign she could see.

She was nearly prepared to the write the whole place off and head back in the carriage, until she spied some of the locals walking about. She saw boas, much like hers, canes graced with gems, silken top hats tied tightly with ribbons, headpieces with luscious feathers swaying to-and-fro from them.

She smiled, for the first time in the entire drive here, as she usually bore what some more crude folk would dub a 'resting bitch face', and finally bore a glance towards their driver. "While I still abhor the location, I can clearly see I was not misinformed in regard to their fashion. Though..." She looked over the townsfolk again.

"Though they aren't quite...the races, I expected. I suppose even the foulest can surprise you, yes? Matters not, as long as they know what they're speaking of, and clearly, they do." The driver got a tense look, as did her husband - though admittedly a tense look is what he usually had -. "Ah, m-madam, perhaps not speak of-" The driver began, but was quickly cut off, the noblewoman waving him off as she retrieved her cigarette-holder from her bag, placing a cigarette at the end and lighting it. "Hush hush, I don't pay for your opinion, darling."

The pair of nobles left their carriage, moving down the streets of Agwe as it began to rain, unfurling an enchanted parasol from her bag and holding it over her and her husband, even though the hotel they were walking towards wasn't even that far from the carriage. Cannot risk smearing the makeup, she thought to herself.

She flashed more than enough cash at the man at the reception desk to give them the royal suite, though they were briefly held up by a lizardfolk man that was waiting behind them for his own room who took offense at the noblewoman's taste in shoes. He ranted a bit, but was quickly silenced by a fierce backhand with Mrs. Von Truce's purse.

As they got settled in their room, and Mrs. Von Truce changed into her silken, fur trimmed nightwear, Mr. Von Truce sat upon the lacey bed, fiddling with his fingers. "...D-Darling?" He eventually fumbled, his wife peering out from the bathroom towards him, makeup only partially washed off, so she didn't leave blush stains on the pillows again. "What is it, darling?"

"...I...I-I'm adequate, yes? T-Tolerable, at least?" He fumbled further, giving an awkward, almost worried smile. His wife sighed softly, giving a soft smile that hardly anyone other than him ever saw, moving to sit beside him upon the bed.

"Darling, do you have any idea how many suitors my dear mumsy and dadums lined up for me? Do not speak as if I had no options; besides, if I was so ashamed of you, why on earth would I let you go around calling yourself 'my husband'? Surely, I'd make you say you were a servant or some such, yes?"

Her dear husband pondered this for a moment...then finally managed a smile, a much less nervous one this time. "Heh...I suppose you're right." He paused. "...Why did you pick me then?" His wife smiled, chuckling softly. "Darling, if there's anything I've learned from being as stunningly gorgeous as I am, it's that being beautiful comes with many expectations as to how life shall treat you. So many of my other suitors were handsome, yes, but they also expected to hear 'yes', and as I'm sure you know by this point, 'yes' is not a word I through around recklessly. A handsome suitor expects a servant for a wife, an average one feels lucky to have a wife at all. That is true, yes?"

He smiled brighter, her words doing wonders to cheer up his self-doubt. "Yes! Of course." She smiled brightly in return, patting him on the head. "See? All is well." She kissed him on his round cheek, making him blush. "Now come along to bed, darling, we have oh so much to do tomorrow."

My 20 objects all relate back to me whether it be culturally, spiritually and objects I cherish. There is not a particular theme I am looking at but by putting everything together, the three main themes and messages I realised was actually mainly around my values and morals. For example, my bible and journal play a big role in my identify as a creative.

Tipping in Canada is a former server in Canada, and people should do more now because "minimum wage is not eating out is a choice used to think like this," Megan explained, saying that if she couldn't afford a 15 to 18% tip on a bill, she didn't feel like she could afford to eat out.

Now that she's moved to the U.K., the TikToker says her mind has been changed that you need to supplement a server's wage because they're not getting paid enough is ridiculous to me now," she explained. "Cultural bias is so fascinating."

In the comments, some mentioned that in the U.S. and some provinces, servers make less than minimum wage, but in Ontario, where Megan is from, restaurant workers make minimum wage.

Tipping can be a confusing subject, and a recent study by Angus Reid shows that Canadians are tired of "tip-flation majority of Canadians note that they're being asked to tip more often at a higher rate and are even being asked to tip for things they previously may not have before, which is referred to as "tip-creep."
