heyyy, guess who’s back with more thoughts about itoshi rin????

so, we’ve already established that rin is a very extrinsically motivated person, at least when it comes to football. he doesn’t play football for himself, and he never has. and in a setting like blue lock i just don’t think that’s a sustainably way to play football. blue lock is a place that wants people have a real love for the sport, and would play it every single day of their lives if they could. ego wants people who want to win and want to be the best striker in the world.

rin,, doesn’t really want that. sure, he wants to beat isagi and prove his brother wrong, but that’s not really a longterm, sustainable goal. what happens when he succeeds? does he just stop and say, “okay, that’s good enough”? what happens if he never succeeds? if isagi just continually gets better and better and rin never beats him in a way that makes sae acknowledge him?

having extrinsic motivations is good and normal, but you also eventually have to do things that you want to do for you or you’re going to get burnt out. and i feel like that’s the path that rin’s headed towards if we’re being realistic about this. he just goes and goes and goes in a really unsustainable way, and eventually it’s going to catch up to him.

he’s a really interesting foil to isagi, who’s motivations are almost entirely intrinsic. part of why isagi’s mindset feels more sustainable to me is because he really only plays football for himself. he plays because he really loves the sport. and we don’t ever really see that in rin, so i feel like it’s eventually going to kind of blow up in his face as we’ve seen in previous rounds of blue lock.

or i’m entirely wrong about this. idk, i’m not kaneshiro. i’m just saying that i don’t think that rin’s got anything sustainable going on in how he plays football ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯

took me a while but rjn's loss yesterday against italy for men's volleyball was so heartbreaking😭 not in a way where i was angry at the players but more to recognizing their hard work. the way yuki bounced back from the prelims to the quarter finals was so amazing to see, not anybody can do that in such a short amount of time, but he did. each player had their roles and i feel like we could all see their determination and fighting spirit. it was also so touching to see the framed picture of our angel fujii (i cried) ! i believe he was somewhere along the court throughout the matches🥹

it was heartbreaking because i so believe they deserve that medal for such a solid team. there will definitely be a lot of changes for the next olympics which makes it even more sad! truly, the only villain at the moment is the players growing old😭 i would love to see them play and flourish even more as a team, but either way, this will definitely be a huge stepping stone for the next.

victory is not yet theirs, so let's get that medal in the future! i hope, the future will be kind to them. please stay healthy and happy rjn!

i'd also want to thank furudate for making volleyball so enjoyable to me😭 idk how many times i'll say this but it's insane how one single anime can do this to me, haikyuu you changed my life fr. you showed me new perspectives and lessons in life in such a fun way, and for that i'm grateful.

vargas and karakurt are so animated in this qf match. like vargas jogging around like a puppy when she gets a point then hitting an ace so hard she lands on the ground to giggle and kick her feet, karakurt strutting after getting an ace then bucking and hitting her head when she hits it out. that one receive where they both went for it and ended up with karakurt on her back and vargas straddling her like what did they have for breakfast ejsjjdjfjejk

haikyuu tiktok is sooooo annoying oh my god guys nishinoya deciding to stop playing volleyball post-time skip is literally not the end of the world he's fine dude. also sorry ur faves didn't go pro not everybody in that series were going to make it to the big leagues anyway. every single decision furudate made with that series was deliberate and realistic and fucking amazing. also no ur fave ship is never going to get together, haikyuu is about sports not romance. there is literally one canonical relationship within the entire series and it's fucking tanaka and kiyoko. iwaoi is not real, bokuaka is not real, kagehina is not real, kenhina is not real, and they never will be. kageyama is not a red flag you guys just don't know how to perceive autistic people in a positive manner without babying them. please just read the fucking manga
