Who's Cordelia?
The inciting plot thing of King Lear is Lear holding a contest between his three daughters and whoever says they love him the most will inherit the nicest part of his kingdom. his eldest Goneril, who is very cold and calculating gives a whole speech about how great Lear is, as does his middle daughter Regan, who is just as clever but also impulsive and violent, does the same thing. But Cordelia, the youngest and most favored (and the only one who loves her father for real beyond what he can give her) refuses to participate in her father’s game of ego stroking because that’s not what love is. Lear doesn’t like this so he disinherits her and exiles her to France. Then the play happens
#cordelia is portrayed as very Virtuous and Pure because she doesn’t want anything unlike her evil sisters which is yknow. 1608 type thinking#and love to lear is treating him like he’s the king so when goneril and regan don’t do that even though he’s being the worst it’s like. yeah#my favorite is regan not gonna lie. love when a woman grabs a sword and commits a murder on stage
