You've been on a generational ship your entire life. There's about a million people on the ship, the population doesn't grow or shrink at all. Your entire life is and will be defined by a limited amount of room, a small space, barely large enough for everyone there to fit, that has become your entire world.
The humans that exist on generational ships are very alien to the humans that exist on planets. Your job is to maintain the ship and carry the culture of humanity but you don't need a human lifestyle to do it. Because reproduction needs to be done through artificial wombs all humans are neutered, with sterile sexless bodies. Everyone's job is determined by ship authority, and very dark things happen to those not able to perform some sort of duty. People spend the first fifteen years of their lives in virtual reality, learning about humanity in a simulation until they're ready to live as adults. Everything is so alien from the earth that you read about in books.
It wouldn't be so hard if society wasn't meant to resemble earth, meant to resemble the most conservative and traditional of earth. The American flags hanging up on the walls, despite everyone alive on board having never known America. The way the pods you live in have astroterf lawns, and fake blue skies painted above them, and the facades of American suburban homes. The way resources a distributed from things meant to look like family run stores, despite the monolithic power behind the economy. Even as monolithic as station authority is it still must dress as democracy, and must preach capitalism in a world with no markets, and patriotism in a world with no nations.
Despite your sexless body you're not free of performing gender. You wear dresses over your breastless neutered body, are expected to act feminine, to carry gender rolls into the planet you're going to. Your husband is expected to do the same for maleness. You love him but your situation feels like a performance with no audience. Despite having neither the instinctual desire nor the physical apparatus to you try to be physically intimate with him, it's what everyone does with their spouse, it would be weird not to.
Space isn't as empty as earth thought it would be. There are things that lurk in the void between stars. Nobody fully knows what they are, where they come from, even if they all come from the same place. Sometimes they put the ship in danger, sometimes the authorities make deals with them. But nobody is allowed to know. You're just all told to be afraid of them but not understand why you have to be afraid. The nightmares between stars aren't delt with with knowledge but with ignorance, they do seem creepy from the little you've seen of them but everyone kind of knows their power is being used for something by the station. Patriotism is always helped by having monsters beyond your borders.
Your entire you've dreamed of blue skies and stars and fields and forests and oceans and all those pretty things you've never seen, that you never will see. People always dream of being so high ranking they'll have access to suspended animation and life extension technology, but so few ever reach that rank. You've read all the classics they allow, read Dante, and Milton, and Homer, tried to let poetry bring you to earth but that planet is alien to you now. Sometimes you wonder what it would be like if you weren't raised in a world that copied earth, if you were accepted as a member of a race that lives on a ship, that exists so liminally. Would there still be such a longing. Mabye you shouldn't have been expected to meet a standard from another world. Mabye you weren't born to long for anything. Does it scare you to think you wouldn't want earth if they didn't tell you to?

[ COMP/CON SYSTEM MESSAGE: Continuing transcription of direct experiential data capture… ]
In the cramped confines of the ordnance bay, Hachiko’s subaltern crouched over Sokaris’s Kobold, peering down at him through the breach in its hatch. His eyes were open; Hachiko watched as they lazily tracked the subaltern’s movements. Too slowly.
Concussion, Hachiko thought, and adjusted the tasking of the medical nanites.
He tried to speak, but his voice withered. Guttural coughs wracked his chest. A deep metallic scraping sounded from inside the chassis, and Hachiko startled, beginning to reach for her pistol before she caught herself. Cautiously, she extended a camera cable from the subaltern, trying to locate the source of the noise, and found it.
Sokaris’s cybernetic tail was dragging itself along the mech’s interior. Several end sections of the tail had been destroyed, and the pink paint coating its exterior was scorched away in places, but it moved with purpose. With precise motions, it created a series of taps and scrapes in alternating long and short bursts.
Morse code.
Friend? The signal read, transcribed by his Omnihook.
“Yes! I’m a friend. It’s Hachi, buddy. You’re aboard my fighter. It’s not ideal, but this bay is the best I’ve got. I’m going to get you warmed up. You’re wounded, but you’ve received correctives, including a small maniple of medical nanites. They’re going to start working to control your pain and repair the damage. You should feel the pain receding now, but don’t try to move yet.”
Scanning the interior of Sokaris’s Kobold, Hachiko’s attention was caught by the series of interface plugs across his hardsuit’s back.
“Wait. That’s a full subjectivity sync, isn’t it? You’re rigged for total somatosensory replacement, then.”
Hachiko paused, weighing something in her mind.
“Okay, there’s a few things we can do. You can’t speak, but we could use the sync cybernetics to communicate.
One, I could try to get a simple two-way connection up and running so we can communicate electronically. You could use neural commands to compose messages. Text, mainly. It’s non-invasive and relatively easy to accomplish.
Or—if you’re comfortable with it—I could try to set up a full Legionspace bridge. In effect, you could enter virtual reality, occupying a simulation of your body while I work to stabilize your real one. I don’t know if you’ve ever attempted that before. It’s safe, but it can be disorienting. You’d at least be isolated from the pain, however.
What do you think? Text, Legion, or leave it alone?”
[Resuming Song]
[Now Playing - “Opossum Instrumental Ver.”]
<As the transmission picks up again, the rudimentary Morse code is noticeably absent. It stopped when Hachiko addressed him. Silence followed her statements towards him, but it was clear that “Opossum” seemed to relax a little upon hearing her name. His breathing, previously ragged and strained, stabilized slightly. They became deeper, and less frantic.>
<Although the friendly voice seemed to soothe him, the time came for a response and he failed to deliver. There was no rhythmic tapping, no strained words, no noise at all coming from “Opossum”, aside from his faint breaths. It seems he was confused —Or Disoriented Perhaps— failing to understand what was being asked.>
{L3} “Text? Legion? Or leave it alone?”
<Several seconds pass in this silence, each stretching to impossible lengths, as the injured mercenary lie there, down and out. Then, he once again begins the code. It’s much more refined this time, each “dit” and “dah” clearly recognizable. It is clear that this ability, to scrape together a solution with only scrap is what truly made the Patchwork Mercenaries what they are, or were.>
{“Opossum”} .- .-.. --- -. . ..--.. / -- . ..--.. / -. . --. .- - .. ...- . .-.-.-
{System} Alone? Me? Negative.
<The Merc stirs, audible winces and other expressions of pain leave his throat as he does. It would seem the very thought of being alone right now is enough to frighten him. He eventually stops shifting, gently falling back into the depths of his frame with a slight thud. Following that noise, he can be heard grasping something. It was a gentle noise, but just loud enough for the Omnihook to pick up. He then continues the tapping.>
{“Opossum”} ... .--. . .- -.- .-.-.- / ..-. .- -.-. . / - --- / ..-. .- -.-. . .-.-.- / .--. .-.. . .- ... . .-.-.-
{System} Speak. Face to Face. Please.
<Without giving Hachi a moment to speak, he begins a new message. The deliberate “dits” and ”dahs” becoming rushed and frantic, as if “Opossum” believed he would be left behind should he not dictate fast enough.
{“Opossum”} .. / .-- .. .-.. .-.. / -... . -.-. --- -- . / .-.. . --. .. --- -. .-.-.-
{System} I will become Legion.

Virtual Reality of the Future
You might say that virtual reality is a simulated reality created in the brain and not real but if one is in a simulated, virtual reality ALREADY and I repeat ALREADY would it be any LESS real to leave it to go to just another virtual simulated brain created reality that that one chooses and can design it the way one would like it to be. A more positive simulated reality that is perfect and lovely. It would be nice to be able to choose one's simulated reality like one selects what one wants to watch on TV . One can create one's own virtual reality using one's artistic and creative talent to materialise a lovely virtual reality hosted by using modern technology. The natural environment would still be here. The only difference would be that the current original simulated reality and NOT and I repeat NOT the natural environment being replaced by a more desired positive simulated reality instead. Van Gough art is positive creating a three dimensional spatial virtual reality effect hosted by his ingenious and talented use of paint spreading on just a two dimensional spatial paper or board of just length and width surface that the brain interprets as 3D of length, height and depth.

"Two years? Blimey, that'd be Nerys for you." The Doctor speaks as if they actually know Nerys, but they don't. They only know her from what Donna has mentioned, and most often, the information hasn't been the most pleasant. The Doctor swirls the contents of their glass— it's ginger wine, which doesn't exactly taste good, but they don't exactly care. The ginger stops their metabolism from nullifying the effects of the alcohol, and the wine offers a pleasant sort of inebriation.
"A story from me? Well, rather recently— and when I say recently, I mean pretty much directly after I got this face back— I ended up in this..." they struggle to find the right words to describe the world they'd landed in, where people of all walks of life immersed themselves in dalek-centric simulations for their own entertiainment.
"I suppose one could call it a dalek-themed Disney world. It was insane, I tell you, these people— the ones who were running it— they had, like, eight daleks— not the encased ones, mind, but the creature within— they had them all encapsulated and wired up into these stasis tubes. From there, the daleks' dreams were used to create a sort of virtual reality and tourists from all over would go and experience these catastrophic dalek invasions— based on real life, by the way— from the safety of virtual reality." They pause for breath and nestle more comfortably into the crook of Donna's neck, allowing their eyes to fall shut.
"I managed to land the TARDIS inside of one of the virtual realities, and one way or another, when I brought her out of there, the daleks manifested in actual reality. They all ended up exploding into paint, though. It was incredibly messy."

I let an idea spark when writing Beta's scene in Chapter 7 of Legacy, Earth and Force of Nature while still riding off the high of Witch from Mercury. So now we're going to have to settle.
Möbius (Zenith!Beta One-Shot WIP)
It was a routine now, practiced a thousand times that her own mind carried the timing and the tune for her. Her eyes were closed as her lips soundlessly spoke the lyrics as she gracefully lifted her arms up and over her head. The only music in the chamber was the sound of her nanolaminate weapon drones and her nanite swarm moving in the direction of her commands, a synchronized dance.
She brought her arms down before shifting her weight and popping up onto the box of her pointe shoes and performing the next set of practiced steps en pointe as her swarm moved around her as if she was painting an image in the air. First she raised her right arm and half the swarm followed, then her left and the second half would crescent upwards in the air.
She would come back down onto her feet and throw her arms out, the swarm exploding outwards from her like a ripple in the water. She would open eyes as she began to turn counter-clockwise as her swarm followed her, spinning around her like the background dancers they were.
From the outside looking in, it was a beautiful and deadly single woman ballet. As for the woman performing this dance it was just another day. Another hopeless attempt to quell the restlessness in her soul after finally being able to experience life.
Erik Visser had been right, and she finally was able to understand what he meant after all these years. Virtual Reality just couldn't capture death. After experiencing it for the first time during her mission in Australia it left something in her that could only be described as desire.
That thrill when her swarm was finally able to play its melody outside the simulations. The high when her sabre was finally able to sing its song and cut through flesh. Then just being able to experience the way the light fades as the bodies grew cold, some even daring to call for their mothers.
She closed her eyes again, trying to sear that image of the battlefield in Australia in her mind. After a moment she exhaled before swinging her hands up towards her shoulders, gently clenching her hands closed to command her swarm. The nanites whistled around her as they returned to their roosts upon her clothing.
Some of the weapon drones clicked into place upon her shoulders and forearms to serve as additional plates of armour, the others broke back down to merge with the swarm that then blended into her clothing, giving the jacket she wore a much longer and elaborate tail.
Green eyes slowly opened to the sound of a single man applauding before her. She never expected an audience when she trained alone but she understood why some would stay and watch. There was a certain beauty in everything she was capable of doing, and it was something she took immense pride in.
So she curtsied before Walter Londra as he showered her with praise in a way only a practiced showman could. "I swear, you grow more graceful in every performance, Beta." Walter smiled with his million dollar smile as he approached her.
"It is because of you that I was allowed this education in the performative arts." Beta crossed her arm over her chest and bowed as she spoke, as she had been trained her entire life. For she had been created and formed for a singular purpose.
To restart Zero Dawn and create the perfect world.

In the deep darkness of the cockpit Adachi had optic sensors running at full capacity scanning the environment, it was a hanger like infrastructure, the target was an unidentified experimental mobile suit. Suddenly a flash of something within his senses warning him of something coming but his reaction to it was delayed.
And it was over in almost an instant.
Adachi Sahaku jolted up into a sitting position, akin to like waking up from a lucid dream or nightmare. He took off the goggle visor he had been wearing in a hurry which was making minor noises and the screen on the inside painted red to indicate a failure of simulation. He was in his room.
It was one of Sahaku Industries more well protected technologies. Utilization of Permet to simulate virtual reality based simulations. There were still in testing phases, and required the subject to be asleep to work effectively. These were very familiar to Adachi, this had been a technology that he had been the primary tester for since he was a child. However unlike the curse of gundarm, this didn’t utilize the human as a component to the process, but more so used peripheral device for the mind to use it as an interface with. Though that was not fully known what the full effects were on it.
He let out a tired sigh, it was still not time for classes yet so he would need to get back to sleep, but these vr sessions were things that the young man did every night, it was also not something known to be of use, cause whenever anyone else would inspect or use the device, it’d basically behave like a display outlet for two reasons, aptitude and the device’s inner function being bio-metrically locked to Adachi’s neural network which it scans for.
#wxtchpilot#IC musings#Basically think of it like utilizing the sleeping mind which is much stronger to vr scenarios

Communal Immersive Art References - Ong Jian Wei
I have done several research and exploring regarding communal immersive art as it is somewhat an unfamiliar territory for me. I had casual experience with utilising and playing with Virtual Reality equipment.
1) teamLab Borderless
teamLab Borderless is a digital art musuem that uses different type of projections to display digital artwork located in Tokyo, Japan. Some of the projected artwork are interactable where visitors can influence the current appearance of the projected digital artwork. Different sections of the museum also travels to other sections in a seamless transition which makes it a rather unique and immersive experience.
The walkthrough of the environment is not fixed and visitors can walk based on their liking and feeling. This helps in creating a personal experience as it feels like they are going on a magical adventure with no urgency to move in a linear path.
The usage of lighting in the rooms are rather limited and the major light sources are the projected digital artwork that lit the rooms. This creates a dark environment where the visitors would be able to focus on the bright coloured artwork more and be immersed into the environment better as there aren't any lighting interruption.
2) Rain Room
Rain Room is an art installation where visitors walk through a room of real falling water that simulate rain without getting the visitors wet, as camera sensors detect their movements upon entering the area and stops the rain around them.
It is an interesting experience as it is said one can smell and hear the rain yet does not get wet upon entering the area. A state of calmness would wash over the visitor as they immerse themselves into the rainy environment without the troublesome feeling of getting wet.
3) Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience
This immersive 360º digital art display invites visitors to enter the world of Vincent van Gogh, the iconic Dutch painter. The paintings comes to life with unique animation that keeps visitors stationary to appreciate the wonderful artworks.
They also provide Virtual Reality experience by transporting visitors into several virtual environments based on the artwork produced by the mentioned artist, with the assistance of VR equipment.
There are also areas for visitors to know more about the artist and his artwork. It is display in an unique way that pops out from the wall, unlike most art gallery that only has images and information nail to the wall. With the art displays animated and popping out into several physical layers, it creates an immersive experience as if the visitors are part of the artwork as well.

Digital Illustration Techniques: A Creative Journey
Digital Illustration Techniques: A Creative Journey. Digital illustration has revolutionized the art world, offering artists a vast array of tools and techniques to bring their imaginations to life. This has fueled the growth of specialized institutions, with many a graphic design institute now incorporating digital illustration as a core component of their curriculum. From traditional painting styles to futuristic concepts, digital illustration has become an indispensable tool for artists across various fields.
Core Techniques and Tools
At the heart of digital illustration lies a strong foundation in fundamental art principles, such as composition, color theory, and perspective. However, digital artists have access to a unique toolkit that enables them to experiment and innovate:
1. Digital Painting:
Software: Adobe Photoshop, Corel Painter, Krita
Techniques:
Brushwork: Simulating traditional painting techniques like oil, watercolor, and acrylic.
Layer Blending Modes: Creating complex effects by layering and blending colors.
Color Theory: Applying color theory to achieve desired moods and atmospheres.
2. Vector Illustration:
Software: Adobe Illustrator, Affinity Designer
Techniques:
Shape Creation: Building images using geometric shapes.
Path Editing: Manipulating curves and lines to create intricate details.
Coloring and Texturing: Applying color and texture to vector shapes.
3. 3D Modeling and Rendering:
Software: Blender, 3ds Max, Maya
Techniques:
Modeling: Creating 3D objects using polygons or curves.
Texturing: Applying materials and textures to 3D models.
Lighting and Rendering: Simulating the interaction of light with objects to create realistic or stylized images.
Digital Illustration Styles
The versatility of digital tools has led to the emergence of diverse illustration styles:
1. Realistic Illustration: Aims to create highly detailed and photorealistic images, often used for concept art, product design, and medical illustration.
2. Cartoon Illustration: Characterized by exaggerated features, bold colors, and simple shapes, often used for comics, animation, and children's books.
3. Anime and Manga Illustration: Inspired by Japanese animation and comics, featuring distinctive character designs, dynamic poses, and expressive line work.
4. Vector Art: Clean, precise, and scalable illustrations, often used for logos, icons, and web graphics.
5. Digital Painting: A broad category encompassing various styles, from traditional oil painting to abstract expressionism.
The Creative Process
The digital illustration process typically involves the following steps:
1. Sketching: Generating initial ideas and exploring composition.
2. Line Art: Creating clean lines and defining the basic shapes of the illustration.
3. Coloring: Applying color and shading to the illustration.
4. Texturing: Adding details and textures to enhance the realism or style of the image.
5. Lighting: Simulating the effects of light and shadow.
6. Post-Production: Making final adjustments, such as color correction and sharpening.
The Future of Digital Illustration
As technology continues to advance, digital illustration is poised for even greater innovation. Artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and augmented reality are opening up new possibilities for creating immersive and interactive experiences. This has led to a surge in demand for skilled digital artists, and consequently, a rise in the number of graphic design institutes in Pune and other cities across the globe that offer specialized training in this field. Mirror, Mirror on the Wall, Who's the Most Stylish of Them All?
In the not-so-hilarious comedy that is my life, the eternal quest for the perfect hairdo has often been a tumultuous experience. The clippers have sung their victorious song as I've watched, helplessly, strands of hair fall to the floor in a regular hair-mageddon. Yet, the siren call of a fresh cut lures me back, time and again. Enter iFoto's AI Hairstyle—the digital demigod of do's, offering a lifeline to the style-challenged like myself.
Let's paint a picture, shall we? The clock strikes three in the morning, and there I am, a bleary-eyed zombie, combing through hair tutorials that promise miracles. The kind where you look like a cover model without stepping foot in a salon. How naive of me to believe that life is just one DIY tutorial away from being a movie montage. Enter stage left: iFoto's AI Hairstyle. A beacon of hope, or so I thought, in the of bad hair days.
So, how does this magical contraption work? Well, it's like playing a high-stakes game of dress-up, except with hair. You upload a pic—your mug, your noggin, that adorable photo where you think you look like a movie star. Then, with a few clicks and the hum of AI algorithms, you're virtually swapping your bedhead for a sleek pixie cut, a flowing mane, or the man bun that you've always dreamed of but were too scared to ask for.
The beauty of this AI Hairstyle is that it's free. Free like the birds, free like the wind, free like the feeling you get when you realize you've spent the last hour trying on virtual hair instead of, oh, I don't know, sleeping. iFoto doesn't judge. It doesn't laugh. It just simulates, and in a weird way, that's comforting.
But let's get down to brass tacks. We all know that a picture is worth a thousand words, but how many of those words are, "Whoa, that looks fantastic?" versus "What was I thinking?" With iFoto's AI Hairstyle, you can have a few goes at the 'do without the salon's cold, hard stare and the expensive price tag that comes with it.
But here's the rub: as much as I want to believe that these virtual hairstyles are a crystal ball into the future of my coiffure, they're not foolproof. They're the digital equivalent of that friend who swears you'd look great with a mohawk. You try it, and suddenly you're the star of a bad episode of "What Not to Wear." But hey, at least you didn't pay for that mohawk. Thanks, iFoto.
I've spent countless moments marveling at my reflection, think abouting the age-old question: "Is this what I really look like, or is the AI playing a cruel joke on me?" The AI Hairstyle feature doesn't just change your hair; it messes with your mind. It's like looking into a funhouse mirror, except the mirror is telling you that you could be a hair model if you just took the leap. seductive, isn't it?
Now, don't get me wrong. The idea that I can experiment with hair that I'd never dare to try in real life is like a door to a brave new world. But every time I close that virtual door, I'm hit with the stark reality of my reflection in the actual mirror. It's a cruel, cruel world when your fantasy hair is just a digital mirage.
As I continue to toggle between my real-life frizz and my virtual fantasy, I can't help but wonder: What if I actually took the plunge and got that mohawk? Or the buzz cut? Or the flowing locks? Would the AI Hairstyle simulator have prepared me for the looks on the subway, or would I still be that person who tried something too bold and is nowing?
In the end, iFoto's AI Hairstyle is both a savior and a tease. It offers a tantalizing glimpse into the world of hair without commitment, but it also serves as a stark reminder that the grass isn't always greener on the other side—or in this case, the hair isn't always thicker or thinner or curlier or straighter. It's a digital playground where dreams are made, and occasionally, where they're dashed.
So, as I step away from the virtual mirror and back into reality, I can't help but laugh—or at least chuckle—a hollow, bittersweet chuckle at the absurdity of it all. The AI Hairstyle feature may not have given me the perfect hairdo, but it sure did give me a tale to tell.
