to be quite honest shadow's characterization in the fsa manga was always something that raised more questions than answers for me because it's like. he's got a mile-wide inferiority complex about being link's shadow we all know this but when did he have the time to develop that inferiority complex in the first place. how long was he lurking around after ganon created him before the events of the manga actually started. what did he witness or hear or both to make him so fucking angry

#that one post that went like 'what if you were the evil clone. what if you looked in the mirror and the brightness blinded you. what if you #saw exactly how good you could've been.' i reblogged it here a while ago but that's still the number one post i attribute to shadow #it's zelda telling him that he's a link too that spurs him to sacrifice himself. it's green telling him that he's one of them that #spurs him to finally reach towards the light. it was vio double-crossing him and verbally twisting the knife that made him so angry #that he slipped up and the four of them could finally land a hit in the first place. all this to say that shadow (like link) is extremely #emotionally-driven. for him to develop such a deep complex about being a shadow he HAD to have experienced some form of diminution #whether that diminution came from ganon himself or from potentially stalking link for a bit before shit went down #and understanding that all the things link possessed—comrades to count on (the knights). a loving father. a dear friend in zelda. a home.#a place to belong. were all things that he would never possess himself by the sheer virtue of being link's shadow instead of link himself.#i'm personally inclined to think it was a combination of both but WHATEVER it was my point is that it had to be SOMETHING.#he wouldn't have such a complex about it otherwise.#fsa #txt #four swords #<-yeah sure i'll main tag this

I saw your tags about how you think Vio is not heroic when he tells Shadow why he IS a hero, and now the idea will not leave my brain. You are so correct. This is the best understanding of Vio's actions that I have ever seen.

#shadow lite was such a fun characterization #that man had access to therapy growing up and it shows #and i did not expect to have that much fun with vaati #or gus who wasn’t even in the outline but just kind of Appeared #vio is complicated #i didn’t want him to weigh things down too much but i liked the idea of telling a slightly deeper story with him #that ties in with the thing with remlits having extreme mood swings #it made sense to give human vio an aversion to that and let it play out #also wild geese by mary oliver strikes again

Watching this guy a bit, and his take on the idea of 'dopamine detox' seems a lot more sustainable for people who were interested in trying that out

i love that one trope that goes like "character wakes up back in time before Big Story Event happens and thus gets a chance to change what happened" and i think that applying it to the fsa manga would be really funny. link doesn't even stop anything from happening he just lets everything play out until he draws the four sword and becomes four again and they all spend the whole time working together to very aggressively make friends with shadow. who has no fucking idea what to make of everything that's happening. he finally turns up to where he stashed zelda in the tower absolutely perplexed like "hey i think your heroes are fucking broken. they keep trying to give me gifts. every time i take a swipe at them with my sword the red one tries to hug me." he doesn't even have it in him to act evil he's just so fucking confused by all of it. and so is zelda for that matter

#she sends out a telepathic message like she can do in other games like 'hey what the fuck'#and green responds back 'DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT IT'S FINE WE'RE UH. DOING SOMETHING. you saw him though? did he look like he needed anything.#was he injured. is he eating and drinking enough. vio's gonna see if he can tempt him with root beer to hang out with us #for the night.'#this unsurprisingly does not clear up the confusion. she's sitting up there like 'well they've lost their damn mind and the kingdom is #fucked. the thing about vio and ruven is that one is the reflection of the other. rotten to the core, kicked and isolated from the society (too 'vio's family fallen out of grace and ruven's just a bastard son of big deal devir family' to be part of the actual nobility), savior and executioner of one another. it's impossible to stay apart yet they can't help but hurt each other bc even in love their only language is pain and the thing is that even if fucked up they understood each other in that pain, like no one could ever do. and yet ruven tried to kill her for power bc he's selfish like that and violante killed him bc betrayal tastes bitter and violence is her only response and they both understand that but now he's gone and it's impossible to go back and she's all alone again and maybe a part of her died and maybe she should've died alongside him

Kelly believes that he is a bad person, no matter what anyone says.

Vio believes that he is a bad person, despite what everyone else says.

Sable believes that they are a bad person, because of what they think everyone must be saying.

Pumpkin believes that she is a bad person because of the things he has done.

Redd believe that they are a bad person because of the things she has been unable to do.

Sapphire believes that she is a bad person, and justifies it because this is a dog-eat-dog world here.

Aure is unable to think of himself as a bad person in any capacity, or his entire worldview will fall apart.

Ivory believes that she has proof that everyone is a bad person, and that the proof also applies to herself.

Furthermore, for the Playwright and the Doll (player character);

The Playwright believes that humanity's nature is so base as to make everyone a bad person, and that they are simply proving this true through the time loop.

The Doll believes that humanity's nature is not inherently evil, and that the conceit of the timeloop forces everyone involved to carry out bad actions, as influenced by the beliefs that they already have.
