The Brooklyn Daily Eagle Cook Book of 1926. The Eagle had also published cookbooks in 1922, 1923, and 1924. They were part of the newspaper’s “Libraries,” a series of pamphlets on diverse topics. The recipes were submitted by readers. It sold for a quarter, which was the equivalent of about $30 today.

In Tasty Dishes, cheese dishes outnumbered others. Cheese Fairy, cheese fondue, St. Armand cheese, cheese balls, cheese straws, cheese puffs, cheese patties, and “hot cheese dreams,” all appeared in this section.

A couple of recipes from Stan Lee Presents: The Mighty Marvel Superheroes’ Cookbook (1977).
For the meatloaf, I followed the directions pretty close to exactly except I used a plant-based mince (and as per usual with these recipes, actually seasoned it). I can’t even remember the last time I had meatloaf, and I’d bet a million dollars that there are better recipes than this one, but my family all really enjoyed it. I made the asparagus two ways, one with canned and one with fresh. The fresh was so much better, but honestly, not the best way to eat asparagus either way. It’s fine, but it’s kind of a waste of time when you could just grill it and season it and it’d taste better.

My First Cookbook and What it Taught Me ... and Maybe You, Too
First edition, 1955 (Photo credit: C. Bertelsen) I still have my very first cookbook, now wearing a faded gingham cover, much like a well-worn and well-loved apron that used to belong to the archetypal American grandmother, possibly one with British antecedents like mine. A three-ring binder for all practical purposes, the book allowed fledgling cooks like me to add recipes, ideally from the…

The Carnation cookbook I saw advertised on the Burns and Allen show (top left), and the actual 1952 version I found on ebay! I love modern technology.

COOKING IDEAS FOR THE KIDS, AND FOR THE INNER KID IN ALL OF US.
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on "Strawberry Shortcake's Cooking Fun" paperback recipe and/or children's cookbook, written & illustrated by Michael J. Smollin, published by Random House in 1980.
"Strawberry Shortcake and her friends love to have parties. And they know lots of ways ways to make food fancy and fun, too. Now they would like to share their ideas with you. Before you make anything in this book, ask a grown-up to help you get the ingredients ready and be with you in the kitchen. This is very important if you want to use the oven or cut something with a sharp knife. Now it's time to start. Have fun cooking!"
-- "STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE'S COOKING FUN" introduction, written by Michael J. Smollin, c. 1980

The front and back of three cookbooks I bought at Goodwill in western NC. The first is from 1948 and sponsored by Crisco, the Jello one is a second edition from 1974, and the last is from 1997. The Jello book had the original mail order form for other cookbooks.
