Met Gala 2024: Top 5 Men's Looks
So we've seen what some of the female attendee's bought to the Met Gala, and now it's on to the men of evening. As you all know I'm not into men's fashion at all but seeing as this is the Met Gala and men in the world of show business are starting to step up with their red carpet looks it's only fair I give you all my favourite looks of the night.
Like before my opinions are my own, they're not gospel so don't take what I say personally especially if you disagree. Remember fashion is art and art is subjective. 1. Gustav Magnar Witzøe wearing Versace Firstly I had no idea who this guy was until today and second I know his outfit wasn't everyone's taste. However I just love the fact that it wasn't a tuxedo or a suit in a vibrant colour. I love the fact that it's fun and eye-catching haute couture outfit designed for a man that leans into the roman and greek statues you'd find in stately gardens. 2. Sebastian Stan wearing Ami Paris If anyone was wondering who I was referring to last week when I slyly mentioned who I hoped was going to show up to the Met Gala. It was this handsome man and boy he did not disappoint because he didn't show up in a suit. I love the fact he went more casual but with the long coat and black embellished flowers that just added that final touch that to me made his look a standout. Sebastian Stan, I am free and single whenever you are... just kidding. 3. Barry Keoghan wearing Burberry This guy has been hot property in the acting world recently so it was no surprise to see him attend the Met Gala. The reason why he made my top 5 was because even though he was wearing a suit, it reminded me of the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland. I just love the fact that it's vintage but not at the same time and the green velvet jacket looked amazing on him. 4. Bad Bunny wearing Maison Margiela This was another outfit that has grown on me the more I look at it. I don't know what it is that I love about it but I just do and I think Bad Bunny looks amazing in it. It stands out despite the fact that it's black with hints of red in it and somehow it fits the theme perfectly.
5. Wisdom Kaye wearing Robert Wun So there's one thing I've noticed about this year's Met Gala... men look good in long coats/capes and I'm here for that trend. Wisdom Kaye stood out simply because red suited him perfectly and I love that his overall outfit was elegant but also edgy thanks to the burn marks on his hat and along the bottom of the coat.

“I’m wearing all red from head to toe for a job fair. My pink shirt, leg warmers, tights, and flats are from Urban Outfitters, the vest is Obey. The bottom is a red skirt I bought in a vintage store named Mint Market in Jersey City; I lived there last year. The pink coat is from Taobao, my ex-boyfriend bought it for me. Today I just want people to remember me in job interviews. My name means ’giving red’ in Chinese. I also have a red resume and red business cards!”

Introducing: Mr. Archive
What better way to kickstart 2024 than with one the most beautifully curated, styled and fair-priced vintage stores out there?
Mr. Archive has been one of my go-to places the last few months, be it for visual inspiration on their instagram profile or the browse some of the most interesting pieces around. To be fair, after 15 years of working in this industry is getting more and more difficult for me to find garments and brands that are truly exciting and fresh. If on top of that we take into account the price point of some of these labels, many of which produce in Portugal with accessible costs, my enthusiasm dims even further.
I’ve always been passionate about the universe of vintage and pre worn garments, but this love has been fueled in recent years by the appearance of highly specialized shops that seem to be perfectly in tune with my personal style. I’ve had the chance to chat with Matteo, the mastermind behind Mr. Archive to learn more about this outstanding project.
BF: I came across Mr. Archive fairly recently and I must say that it definitely hit a soft spot within the range of vintage providers currently on my radar. How long have you been in business? What drove you to create it?
Matteo: I'm passionate about my job, believe I have a somewhat general knowledge of the fashion world, but about 4 years ago, I got fascinated by this industry, even though I already knew it. I come from a family that has always worked in the clothing industry.
BF: For me, your selection is perfectly curated, bringing a mix of military and navy-inspired garments, with a twist of Americana. Is this an extension of your own style and taste, or is it more business-oriented?
Matteo: What I propose is all based on my personal taste; I create outfits on the spot, drawing inspiration from magazines, newspapers, etc., and then I elaborate and create. My mom is an artist, and I think I took inspiration from her.
BF: Vintage has always inspired me ever since I got into fashion roughly 15 years ago. There's just something distinctive about the fabrics and the history behind each garment that you can not replicate with new items. How/where do you source your amazing selection?
Matteo: My pieces come from warehouses worldwide; I'm constantly looking for new things, and that's the wonderful thing about my job! I have strong trust in my suppliers!
BF: With sustainability being the word of order when it comes to fashion, have you noticed an increase in demand for pre-owned garments? Do you think part of the solution can be provided by vintage?
Matteo: Recently, there has been an increase in the purchase of vintage and second-hand clothing items. To be honest, I believe that a few years ago, not many people knew about this world, but now it's expanding and captivating even those who knew little about it.
BF: I noticed you have a small capsule of garments carrying your own label, namely selvedge denim and accessories. What's the story behind those? Can we expect more designs in the future?
Matteo: I won't deny that creating my own clothing line would be a great personal satisfaction, a significant growth. I recently created a small line, "MRARCHIVE," currently composed of jackets, pants, and hats. One day, I'd like to expand, but I still have much to learn and study.
BF: Any tips or advice you wish to leave for those more reluctant to explore the world of previously owned items? It's still somewhat taboo for some people.
For many people, this world is still a taboo; they're still stuck in the thought of "they're used clothes." What I think is that one should see the story and originality behind each piece to appreciate its value, both from a historical and an aesthetic perspective. Sometimes, I compare some clothing items to paintings—they should be framed.
You can find Mr. Archive here.

Cyd Charisse (The Bandwagon, Brigadoon, Singin’ in the Rain)—LEGS LEGS LEGS I would sell my soul for the legs of Cyd Charisse - she oozed style and glamour and sex appeal!! And she could DANCE! She was dancing next to the greats - Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire but they are never who you're looking at because why would you when you can look at her. I will only sit through too long ballet breaks for her. If there was any woman who you could call sex on legs it was her. These dances are everything to meeee (she comes in at the minute mark) and this dance too of course is iconic. In the words of Fred Astaire 'When you've danced with Cyd Charisse you stay danced with'
Beata Tyszkiewicz (The Doll)—no propaganda submitted
This is round 1 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.
[additional propaganda submitted under the cut.]

Cyd:

Photos do not do Cyd Charisse justice, unfortunately, because she is at her hottest while dancing, which she was exquisitely good at. Just go watch her first number in Singin' in the Rain, in that green dress; nothing I could say here will be more convincing that that.
She had amazing legs, and she knew how to use them! You probably know her best from the dream sequence in Singin' In The Rain. She was such a stunning dancer, and all her dance scenes are hard to look away from.
Dancing in the Dark clip:
youtube
She's an amazing dancer and my favorite from the period. Here's her and Fred Astaire in the Band Wagon:
youtube
One of the most talented female dancers in Hollywood history, but what sets her apart from other competitors for that title is that she...umm...well let's be blunt, she was the dancer who put sex into it. The one who said "Hey, you know that A+ leg tone that naturally develops from doing this for a living? Why don't I let people see that? Like at every opportunity?" She reportedly insured her legs for five million dollars after hitting it big, which just goes to show that fame makes you crazy. It should have been ten million.
Tumblr media
I just like a woman who's there to be really incredibly good at dancing.
Arguably the Best female dancer of her time, she supposedly insured her legs for $5 million dollars. Stole the show whenever she had a dance number, even if she went uncredited. Musicals started to go out of fashion so unfortunately she didn't have as many big roles as she should have, but those she did are unforgettable. The Broadway Melody number in Singin' in the Rain - the green dress!
She could pirouette in pointes or tear it up in taps. Fred Astaire called her "beautiful dynamite" and wrote, "That Cyd! When you've danced with her you stay danced with." Gene Kelly partnered with her three times. Her legs were (reportedly) insured for $5 million in 1952 ($57.8 million in 2024 dollars)! Everyone in this poll will be iconic, but for raw physical grace, Cyd is up there with the best.
Tumblr media
Legs for days, beautiful dancer in the most iconic scenes of Singin in the Rain. She's glorious. As some guys sung to her in It's Always fair weather, 'baby you knock me out!'
Tumblr media
Incredibly, Cyd Charisse only started learning to dance as a rehab exercise to strengthen her body after a childhood bout of polio. She was in high demand as a dance partner, Fred Astaire called her beautiful dynamite and said "When you've danced with her, you stayed danced with". She was one of a few leading ladies to dance with both Astaire and Kelly, declaring them both delicious. Kelly apparently was stronger, while Astaire was more coordinated. She also said her husband would always know who she had been dancing with because Kelly left her bruised, while Astaire didn't leave a mark. She's better known for her dance numbers today, but she was a leading lady in her time! Her Scottish accent in Brigadoon leaves a lot to be desired, but compared to the other actors in the movie, it's almost good. She appeared in The Harvey Girls alongside Judy Garland and Angela Lansbury in her first speaking role, but she really burst onto the scene with Singin' in the Rain and her infamous Broadway Melody Ballet number with Gene Kelly (no one could handle a length of fabric like Cyd Charisse). She was brought in because Debbie Reynolds wasn't really a dancer and Kelly was notoriously a stickler about his Vision. After that she starred opposite Astaire in The Band Wagon, which was a bit of a flop but created some enduringly incredible dance numbers. She went on to star in a number of MGM movies, and was one of the last of the Studio era stars to remain on contract. Since we've got up to 1970, I'm including her opening routine in The Silencers (1966) to show just how long she was making a splash - she's into her 40s here and still a siren:

and of course, the iconic Broadway Melody Ballet -

Blocking time off from work, you noticed that your cell phone started ringing out of nowhere.
Officer Jessica Sims from the Shelby Springs Police Department called.
“Jess?” Picking up this afternoon, you definitely responded.
“Girl! I'm so sorry for not reaching out, but guess what?” J's Southern accent revealed itself.
“Don't worry.” You're fully aware that the rural precinct struggled now. “What happened?”
“Think I found your husband.” Despite that police station keeping vintage technology, you noticed Jessica's humor loud and clear.
“Oh, God!” You nearly laughed out loud. “What are you talking about?”
“I helped out this man earlier and…” Jessica wouldn't go on.
“Spit it out, J!” You kept listening to her no matter what.
“I'm working, but we don't have reception outdoors.” Jessica cleared her throat for a moment. “He's fine.”
“Don't play matchmaker again.” You quickly rolled both eyes.
“Listen: Light eyes, in shape with service tattoos, and acts respectful.” Jessica detailed this man.
“Sounds too good to be true.” For once, you don't believe her.
“Visit tomorrow. He's still in town. Bye!” Jessica dropped the call before you could say anything else.
Here we go. You thought.
*****
Uniformed once more, Jessica traded this brief smile when you entered the department.
“I'm here. What's going on?” You spoke quietly en route to her desk.
“I'll explain everything.” Sims then faced your direction.
Just before you could sit down and learn gossip, the door opened again.
Leaving her desk behind, Jessica held your wrist and you both hid near one corner, watching whoever arrived.
“What's wrong?” Your voice immediately whispered to Jess.
“That's him!” As Jessica pointed upfront, her accent pulled all over again.
Uh-oh. This time around, you finally realized what Sims meant.
Remarkable eyes noticed the building and service tattoos inked along his muscular frame.
This morning, the handsome individual paired another tight shirt with jeans and sneakers.
“Go back to work. We'll talk soon.” You prompted Jessica to speak with this man.
“All right. Pardon me…” Jessica excused herself from your side and sat down, addressing the man.
******
“Who was that?” When Officer Jessica Sims found her longtime desk this morning, veteran Terry Richmond chuckled through his deep tone.
“My friend…” Jessica would pull this vague response.
“I could use some good news at this point.” Terry encouraged Jessica. “What were y'all talking about?”
“Nothing.” Jess shrugged while beginning to work as usual. “How are you holding up with the case?”
“No better than before.” Richmond lost bail money for his cousin during an altercation with law enforcement. “Know any lawyers if I can't reach out on Monday?”
“Attorneys pool from the local courthouse, but workloads get swamped over there.” Jessica declined.
“Fair enough, but you didn't answer my other question.” Terry arched his brow.
“Which question?” Jessica asked.
“What were y'all talking about?” Catching Sims red-handed, Terry's smile offered brightness.
“Should I tell the truth?” Jessica spoke up for many reasons.
“I don't appreciate falsehoods.” Terry crossed both arms.
“You.” Jessica stopped playing around and headed out for lunch. “Good luck with your case.”
Right when Officer Sims walked away, Terry glanced down and noticed a sticky note waiting on her desk.
Jessica had discreetly written your phone number on paper.
******
“Sorry.” Terry apologized when you first met him up close. Drama flew all over the police station now.
“Everyone hopes for better circumstances around here.” You picked up Richmond and started driving away from this hospital.
On the other hand, medics helped legal assistant Summer McBride for various reasons.
“Sims told me about you.” Terry changed the subject.
“Surprised you didn't call me first.” You know that Jessica slipped your phone number by this man.
“Chief got in the way.” Richmond almost laughed and chided Sandy Burne.
“Where should we go since you're free?” You learned that Terry confirmed this settlement for this case, especially with his cousin Mike gone.
“Anywhere you want.” Terry grinned toward you and watched the city limits disappear.
