How High-Performance Stretch Film Transforms Shipping in Vietnam
Tumblr media
Efficient shipping is becoming increasingly vital in Vietnam's booming economy. From bustling markets to high-tech industrial zones, the need for effective transportation and secure packaging has never been greater. Enter high-performance stretch film—a game-changer that's transforming the way Vietnamese businesses handle shipping. This guide will show you how high-performance stretch film can enhance your shipping processes, reduce costs, and improve overall efficiency.
The Basics of Stretch Film
What is Stretch Film?
Stretch film is a highly stretchable plastic film used to wrap products on pallets, ensuring they remain secure during transit. Its primary purpose is to hold loads tightly together, preventing them from shifting, tipping, or getting damaged. This makes it an essential tool in the shipping and logistics industry.
Types of Stretch Film
There are two main types of stretch film—cast and blown. Cast stretch film is produced using a continuous process called casting, which results in a clear, glossy film. It offers excellent clarity, making it easier to identify wrapped products. On the other hand, blown stretch film is manufactured using a blown extrusion process, resulting in a more robust and tear-resistant film with a matte finish. Each type has its own strengths and is suitable for different applications.
Key Attributes of High-Performance Stretch Film
High-performance stretch film boasts several key attributes that set it apart from standard films. These include superior stretchability, puncture resistance, and load retention capabilities. These features ensure that high-performance stretch film provides better protection and stability for your shipments, making it an invaluable asset in the shipping process.
Selecting the Right Stretch Film for Your Needs
Factors to Consider
Choosing the right stretch film involves considering several factors, including the size and weight of your load, as well as the shipping conditions. Heavier loads may require a thicker, more robust film, while lighter loads can be secured with a thinner film. Additionally, consider the shipping environment—will your products be exposed to extreme temperatures or rough handling? These factors will help determine the most suitable stretch film for your needs.
Environmental Considerations
In today's environmentally conscious world, opting for sustainable and eco-friendly stretch films can make a significant difference. Look for films made from recyclable materials or those that use less plastic without compromising on strength and durability. This not only helps reduce your carbon footprint but also aligns your business with global sustainability initiatives.
Cost-Effectiveness
Balancing quality with budget constraints is crucial when selecting stretch film. While high-performance stretch film may come at a higher initial cost, its enhanced durability and efficiency can lead to long-term savings. Invest in quality stretch film to minimize material usage and reduce the risk of product damage during transit, ultimately lowering your overall shipping costs.
Benefits of Using High-Performance Stretch Film
Enhanced Load Stability and Protection
One of the primary benefits of high-performance stretch film is its ability to provide enhanced load stability and protection. The superior stretchability and load retention capabilities ensure that your products remain securely wrapped throughout the shipping process, reducing the risk of damage or loss.
Reduction in Material Usage and Cost Savings
High-performance stretch film is designed to maximize efficiency, requiring less material to achieve the same level of protection as standard films. This reduction in material usage translates to cost savings, making it a cost-effective solution for businesses of all sizes.
Increased Efficiency in Packing and Handling
Using high-performance stretch film can significantly improve the efficiency of your packing and handling processes. Its superior stretchability and puncture resistance mean fewer breaks and interruptions, allowing for smoother and faster wrapping. This increased efficiency can lead to faster turnaround times and improved overall productivity.
Compliance with Vietnamese Regulatory Standards
Adhering to regulatory standards is essential for businesses operating in Vietnam. High-performance stretch film complies with Vietnamese regulatory standards and best practices, ensuring that your shipments meet all necessary requirements. This compliance helps build trust with customers and partners, reinforcing your commitment to quality and reliability.

The new route Russia is using to export its oil to China. Unfortunately global warming and the melting of the icecaps only benefits Russia geopolitically. What’s the big deal? you might wonder. A 10-day reduction in transport time is huge when it comes to the velocity of capital. Power accrues to the nations that control key maritime trade routes.
*
Between climate change and the new Cold War, the future doesn’t look pretty. China’s economy is imploding thanks to their reliance on a debt-fueled real estate bonanza, their misguided zero COVID policy, and Xi Jinping’s head-scratchingly bad policies (and of course, his consolidation of power). Siding with Russia was a huge mistake
Now China’s biggest export markets are trying to decouple or at least diversify away from them. Youth unemployment is so bad in China (21%, but possibly significantly higher) that the government has decided to stop publishing such data. The Philippines and Vietnam are pivoting toward the US. South Korea and Japan are putting their long, historical feud aside to join forces against China. Japanese military neutrality is over. Meanwhile a tiny island called Taiwan makes over 92% of the world’s advanced semiconductors and will likely be invaded in our lifetime. Will an (economically) weakened China make it more or less likely that Xi will invade Taiwan? (Strongmen facing a domestic crisis and loss of popular support do often start wars as a kind of “gamble for resurrection,” but Xi might have become more risk adverse as he observes Russia’s debacle in Ukraine. Plus, an amphibious invasion is logistically extremely difficult to pull off.)
Defense spending worldwide is skyrocketing, climbing back toward Cold War levels. The lines on the map are hardening, particularly in the Asian/Pacific theater and the European theater. A nuclear trifecta of Russia-China-North Korea is emerging. Yes, it is a marriage of convenience, but quite a dangerous one given that Russia will likely transfer technology (specifically, platforms to deliver nuclear warheads) to North Korea in exchange for Soviet-compatible ammunition/arms to use in Ukraine. I hate feeling like the world is a frog getting boiled but as I finish this 26-part BBC documentary on World War I, I can’t help but feel that the geopolitical situation is very unstable.
Oh, the madness of nation states! Wake me up when it’s over.

Top: GM XM-0111 Prototype Bottom: M-0110 Pre-Production model at a civilian air show
The 1959-1963 US Army FTV Contract (Flying Transport Vehicle) was a contract to make a squad-accessible, flying vehicle, nicknamed the Flying Jeep, as a concept. The program was proposed in 1958, and the first full-scale mock-ups were built in 1960. Flying prototypes were made by the final 2 contestants, General Motors, with the GM XM-0111A, and the Ford-Cessna XM-0110A. In the end, the GM prototype won out, being the "Flying Jeep" used in Vietnam, but later being phased out by the Huey helicopter as a better, higher capacity transport, with more usage options. The M-0111 (with models spanning from A to D) was produced from August 1961 (the first prototype, XM-0111) to December 1969, with the M-0111D being the last. A total of 5,260 were built across the four main variants. They are in common use today for transporting goods across inhospitable places like the bush, where they’re admired for their lightness and off-road capability (though they are more fragile and expensive to maintain than their traditional strictly-air counterparts). During army service, they did not require full trained pilots due to their low service ceiling of 2,000 feet in early models, though on the civilian market they are considered experimental light sport aircraft and require both a drivers license and a twin engine pilot's license. Around 800 are registered in the USA alone, with some still in military service in countries like Chile, Argentina, Panama, and Liberia, as light, short range military transports. The upper picture features the XM-0111 prototype, having just rolled out of the Michigan Buick factory for preliminary road testing, before being hauled to the nearby airport for flight control testing.

Can Foreign Invested Enterprises Distribute Pharmaceutical Products in Vietnam?
Currently, with the complicated developments of the Covid-19 epidemic in the world in general and in Vietnam in particular, the research, production and import of Covid-19 vaccines are the matter that everyone is concerned about. On February 24th, 2021, the first batch of vaccine approved for import was transported to Vietnam by the Vietnam Vaccine Joint Stock Company.
Tumblr media
Facing this situation, a number of foreign enterprises have expressed their opinions on the limitations imposed on foreign-invested enterprises in the field of distribution of pharmaceutical products in Vietnam. Vietnam has reserved no commitment to open the distribution of pharmaceutical products service market and has not committed to opening the distribution of pharmaceutical products service market under any trade agreement or international treaty up to the moment, because the pharmaceutical sector is sensitive, directly related to access to drugs and people’s health.
According to the provisions of the law, “distribution of pharmaceutical products” means the division, movement and storage of pharmaceutical products from the warehouse of the manufacturer/importer of such products or from a distributor to the end user thereof or to a distribution point or between distribution points by means of various transport methods. For distribution services, in the WTO Commitments, it is clear that pharmaceutical distribution services are excluded from the scope of commitments for all modes of supply. In addition, Appendix 03 of Circular 24/2016/TT- publicizing roadmaps for goods trade and goods trading directly related activities of foreign-invested enterprises in Vietnam, it is also recognized that pharmaceutical products are on the list of goods not entitled to distribution.
Regarding this issue, the Drug Administration of Vietnam expressed the following viewpoint: “The suspension of allowing foreign-invested enterprises in Vietnam to provide drug storage and transportation services is to prevent the distribution of disguised drugs in Vietnam, contributing to health security and towards the professionalization of the medicine distribution system in Vietnam.”
Point c, Clause 10, Article 91 of Decree 54/2017/ND-CP, effective from May 8, 2017, provides for cases ineligible to distribute drugs as follows:
“10. The entities that are entitled to import but not entitled to distribute drugs and medicinal ingredients in Vietnam must do activities related to distribution of drugs and medicinal ingredients in Vietnam except for drugs and medicinal ingredients they manufacture in Vietnam, including:
c) Providing drug/medicinal ingredient transport or storage services.”
According to this content, foreign-invested enterprises in Vietnam are not allowed to transport and preserve drugs, except for drugs and medicinal ingredients manufactured by that enterprise in Vietnam. It can be seen that the restriction on the right to distribute drugs to foreign-invested enterprises is aimed at ensuring health security, being proactive in drug supply and distribution, towards to professionalize the domestic drug distribution system as a foundation to support the development of the domestic pharmaceutical industry and contributing to better control of drug prices in the market.

Note that Vietnam also has Territorial Disputes with China in the South China Sea (SCS), but this has not kept them from maintaining very close ties with China.

Who Are the Large Coffee Traders?
Tumblr media
Coffee is one of the most popular drinks in the world. Millions of people start their day with a cup of coffee. But behind every cup, there is a long and complex process that begins with the coffee bean. Coffee trading is a significant part of the global coffee industry, and large coffee traders play an essential role in bringing coffee from farms to our cups. In this article, we will explore who the major coffee traders are, their role in the coffee supply chain, and how they impact the industry.
Introduction to Coffee Trading
Coffee trading is the process of buying and selling coffee beans in the global market. Coffee is a commodity, which means its price fluctuates depending on supply and demand. Large coffee traders buy coffee beans in bulk from producers (farmers and cooperatives) and sell them to roasters, retailers, or other buyers. This process can involve different steps, including transportation, storage, quality control, and sometimes even processing.
The coffee trade is dominated by a few large companies that control a significant portion of the global coffee supply. These companies operate worldwide and have extensive networks of producers and buyers. They are also responsible for setting the price of coffee, which can have a direct impact on coffee farmers and the overall market.
The Importance of Large Coffee Traders
Large coffee traders play a critical role in the global coffee industry. They help ensure a steady supply of coffee to meet the growing demand. Coffee is produced mainly in tropical countries like Brazil, Vietnam, Colombia, and Ethiopia, while most of the consumption happens in North America, Europe, and Asia. Large traders act as the bridge between coffee-producing regions and the markets where coffee is consumed.
Their operations are vast, spanning multiple countries and regions. They are involved in every stage of the coffee supply chain, from sourcing the beans to delivering them to roasters or retailers. Because of their size and influence, these traders can stabilize the market by absorbing fluctuations in supply and demand.
Who Are the Large Coffee Traders?
Several large companies dominate the coffee trading business. These companies are involved in the buying, selling, and distribution of coffee beans on a global scale. Some of the most well-known coffee traders include:
1. Neumann Kaffee Gruppe (NKG)
Neumann Kaffee Gruppe (NKG) is the largest coffee trading company in the world. Based in Hamburg, Germany, NKG operates in more than 20 countries and handles about 15% of the world’s green coffee trade. The company has a vast network of over 50 companies involved in all stages of the coffee supply chain.
NKG works with coffee producers, cooperatives, and exporters in coffee-growing regions. It purchases coffee beans, ensures quality control, and sells them to roasters and other buyers worldwide. NKG’s extensive operations allow it to manage large quantities of coffee, providing stability in supply.
2. ECOM Agroindustrial Corp
ECOM Agroindustrial Corp is another major player in the global coffee trade. Based in Switzerland, ECOM is a family-owned company that has been involved in the agricultural commodity trade for over 150 years. In the coffee sector, ECOM is one of the largest traders, handling significant volumes of coffee beans.
The company operates in more than 40 countries and is involved in sourcing, processing, and selling coffee. ECOM is also committed to sustainability, working with farmers to improve agricultural practices and increase productivity while minimizing environmental impact. ECOM supplies coffee to some of the biggest coffee roasters and retailers around the world.
3. Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC)
Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) is a global commodity trading firm that deals in various agricultural products, including coffee. Founded in France in 1851, LDC is one of the largest coffee traders today, with operations spanning the globe. The company is involved in sourcing, processing, and distributing coffee beans to major coffee markets.
LDC’s coffee business focuses on sustainable sourcing and supply chain transparency. The company works with coffee farmers to ensure that the coffee it trades meets high-quality standards and is produced in an environmentally responsible way. LDC is also active in promoting fair labor practices and supporting smallholder farmers.
4. Olam International
Olam International, based in Singapore, is a major player in the coffee trade, alongside other agricultural commodities like cocoa, cotton, and nuts. Olam is involved in every stage of the coffee supply chain, from sourcing beans in coffee-growing regions to delivering them to global markets.
Olam operates in more than 70 countries and is known for its focus on sustainability and responsible sourcing. The company works closely with coffee farmers to improve their yields and income, while also promoting environmental stewardship. Olam supplies coffee to many of the world’s leading coffee brands, including Starbucks and NestlĂ©.
5. Volcafe
Volcafe is the coffee trading arm of ED&F Man, a global commodity trading company based in the UK. Volcafe has been in the coffee trade for over 160 years and is one of the largest traders of green coffee in the world. The company sources coffee from major producing regions such as Brazil, Vietnam, and Colombia.
Volcafe is known for its expertise in managing the coffee supply chain, from farm to market. The company works directly with coffee farmers to ensure the quality of the beans and promote sustainable farming practices. Volcafe also has a strong presence in the specialty coffee market, catering to the growing demand for high-quality, ethically sourced coffee.
6. Sucafina
Sucafina is a relatively newer player in the coffee trading industry but has quickly grown to become one of the largest. Headquartered in Switzerland, Sucafina operates across the coffee supply chain, from sourcing and processing to distributing coffee to roasters and retailers. The company has a strong presence in Africa, where it works with coffee farmers to improve production and quality.
Sucafina is committed to sustainability and transparency in the coffee trade. The company works with various certification programs, such as Fair Trade and Rainforest Alliance, to ensure that the coffee it trades is ethically sourced and produced in an environmentally responsible way.
The Role of Coffee Traders in the Supply Chain
Large coffee traders are essential in connecting coffee producers with consumers. They manage the logistics of getting coffee from farms in remote regions to roasters and retailers in major markets. Here’s how they contribute to the coffee supply chain:
1. Sourcing Coffee Beans
The first step in the coffee supply chain is sourcing the coffee beans. Large traders work with coffee farmers, cooperatives, and exporters to buy green coffee beans. These traders often have direct relationships with farmers or work through intermediaries to secure a stable supply of beans. They focus on both quantity and quality, ensuring that the coffee meets the standards of their buyers.
2. Quality Control
Before the coffee reaches the market, it goes through rigorous quality control processes. Large coffee traders have the resources to test and evaluate the beans to ensure they meet the required standards. They check for factors like flavor, aroma, size, and defects. This is important because coffee roasters and retailers expect consistent quality in the coffee they purchase.
3. Logistics and Transportation
Once the coffee beans are sourced and quality-checked, they need to be transported to their final destinations. Large traders manage the complex logistics involved in moving coffee from one part of the world to another. This includes arranging shipping, storage, and sometimes even processing. Efficient logistics are essential to ensure that the coffee arrives on time and in good condition.
4. Sustainability and Fair Trade
In recent years, there has been a growing focus on sustainability and fair trade in the coffee industry. Large traders are increasingly involved in programs that promote environmentally friendly farming practices and fair labor conditions for coffee farmers. Many traders work with certification organizations like Fair Trade, Rainforest Alliance, and UTZ to ensure that the coffee they trade meets ethical and environmental standards.
Impact of Large Coffee Traders on the Industry
Large coffee traders have a significant impact on the global coffee industry. Because of their size and influence, they can shape the market in several ways:
1. Price Control
Coffee prices are determined by supply and demand, but large traders can influence prices by controlling supply. By purchasing large quantities of coffee, they can create stability in the market. However, this also means that small farmers are often at the mercy of these traders when it comes to setting prices. Some critics argue that large traders can use their power to drive prices down, which can hurt farmers’ income.
2. Supporting Farmers
Many large coffee traders have programs in place to support coffee farmers. These programs often focus on improving farming practices, increasing productivity, and providing better access to markets. By supporting farmers, traders can ensure a steady supply of high-quality coffee, which benefits both the farmers and the traders.
3. Promoting Sustainability
Sustainability is becoming a critical issue in the coffee industry. Large traders are taking steps to reduce the environmental impact of coffee farming and promote responsible sourcing. This includes working with certification programs, supporting reforestation efforts, and reducing carbon emissions in the supply chain.
Conclusion
Large coffee traders are key players in the global coffee industry. Companies like Neumann Kaffee Gruppe, ECOM, Louis Dreyfus, Olam, Volcafe, and Sucafina play a vital role in sourcing, quality control, and logistics. They ensure that coffee beans are delivered from farms to markets efficiently and sustainably. While they have a significant influence on the market, they are also working to promote sustainability and support coffee farmers. Understanding who these large coffee traders are and how they operate gives us a deeper insight into the complex journey of the coffee we drink every day.
