WEIRD ANIME NIGHT
guys, I’m going to level with you. I am running out of weird anime’s I have watched. I want to do these guys every week I really do....and I have a stack of VHS tapes and DVD’s downstairs to dig through that MIGHT have some more gold in them, but it would be SUPER COOL of you if you would DM me some ideas or suggestions to look into in the coming weeks and months now I said I am RUNNING OUT, that doesnt mean I’m empty. Tonight I am going to go on a tangent, and talk about one anime you dudes have LIKELY seen already MOBILE FIGHTER G GUNDAM
You might say to yourself, hey Brian, that show isn’t THAT weird, gundam is a big big robot show, and that is just another cookie cutter big big robo show
BUT YOU ARE WRONG
DEAD WRONG
Mobile fighter g gundam was only the 9th gundam series ever made, and the series it follows Victory gundam is considered one of the darkest in gundams canon, where kill them all Tomino really showed that he earned that name, it wasn’t gifted to him. I mean the shows about a 12 year old who, in its final act fights a giant, moon sized ring full of psychics that try to reduce humanity to animal like stupidity so that they can rule the earth, and also like…..all of his friends die. All of them, most of them children. Victory gundam is dark as shit
G Gundam though? Naw, this show is like two clicks away from being a gundam skin over top of a king of braves show. I mean let me break it down like this. G gundam is about a buncha people, hired by their countries to represent them in a martial arts tournament , with giant robots that used to be used for war, but that war destroyed earth real bad, so instead they still destroy earth real bad with giant robots, but instead of war, its just a boxing match and they make it clear that this ish is bad for the earth like EVERY city is fucked, and whoever wins the tournament, their government gets to be dictators of the world and space for 4 years.
and its played for laughs
I also want to mention for people who are passingly familiar with Gundam through things like wing or seed etc, and know that gundam has different time lines, THIS is the first alternate timeline, this is the first non UC timeline in the whole of gundam. Imagine if the last few shows were, a war drama about a 14 year old being drafted and getting ptsd, then a sequal where a child psychic also gets drafted then his parents die, then the girl he loves tries to kill him and dies, then a sequal to that where again, a ton of main characters die, then a sequal movie where two of the main characters of the entire show both die, then a show about a boy making a new friend, who turns out to be a soldier, and introducing them to his next door neighbor who turns out to be a soldier, then while trying to help his new friend, his neighbor murders him, ON CHRISTMAS, then he has to just go back to normal life because he kept all of this a secret to everyone.
AFTER THAT ALL WE GET THIS
youtube
I mean it took a show that for 20 years had been a dead ass serious war drama, and turned it into well......MMA with robots and dudes (and a few ladies) in latex cat suits using magic to destroy famous land marks
THE WIKI SAYS Unlike previous series in the Gundam franchise which are set in the "Universal Century" timeline, Mobile Fighter G Gundam takes place in an alternate "Future Century" universe.[1][2] Within this timeline, much of mankind has abandoned a ruined Earth to live in space colonies. The countries on Earth have corresponding colonies just outside the planet's atmosphere. Rather than fight wars for political and social dominance, the colonies agree to hold a "Gundam Fight" tournament every four years. Each country sends to Earth a representative piloting a highly-advanced, humanoid mobile fighter called a Gundam. The Gundams compete with one another in one-on-one battles, under a strict set of rules, until only one fighter remains; the nation represented by the winner earns the right to rule all of space for that period.[2] Each Gundam is controlled directly by the user within the cockpit using the "Mobile Trace System", a gesture recognition and feedback mechanism whereby the Gundam mimics the pilot's own body motion, combat skills, and weapon-wielding capabilities.[1]G Gundam opens at the start of the 13th Gundam Fight in Future Century year 60 and follows Neo Japan's Domon Kasshu, fighter of his nation's Shining Gundam and bearer of the coveted "King of Hearts" martial arts crest.[1] Aside from winning the tournament, Domon's mission is to track down his fugitive, older brother Kyoji, who allegedly stole the experimental Dark Gundam from Neo Japan's government, leaving their mother dead and their father (Dr. Raizo Kasshu) to be arrested and placed in a cryogenic state.[3]
Under orders from Major Ullube Ishikawa, Domon and his childhood friend and mechanic Rain Mikamura travel from country to country, challenging each one's Gundam while searching for clues to the whereabouts of Kyoji and the Dark Gundam.[3] Domon's initial matches with Neo America's Chibodee Crocket, Neo France's George DeSand, Neo China's Sai Sai Ci, and Neo Russia's Argo Gulskii end in draws, gaining mutual respect among the fighters.[1][2] As they encounter Gundam pilots who had come in contact with the Dark Gundam, Domon and Rain learn of its unique cellular properties to regenerate, multiply, and evolve by infecting organic matter and causing violent behavior in living things.[3] The duo then journey to Neo Tokyo, a city decimated by the Dark Gundam's army of mobile weapons. Domon reunites with his esteemed martial arts instructor Master Asia, who is also the champion of the last Gundam Fight, the former King of Hearts, and one-time leader of an elite group of Gundam fighters called the Shuffle Alliance. After Domon and Rain help the city's survivors defend their last outpost in Shinjuku, Master Asia reveals himself as a servant of the Dark Gundam, having also gained control over Chibodee, George, Sai Sai Ci, and Argo using Dark Gundam (DG) cells.[2][3] The four remaining members of the Shuffle Alliance intervene and vow to destroy their previous leader for his crimes. Ultimately, the Alliance members offer their lives in purging the DG cells from Domon's four comrades and bestow each of them with a Shuffle Alliance crest as their successors. Kyoji and the enormous Dark Gundam eventually appear from beneath the ground of Shinjuku, but shortly thereafter vanish alongside Master Asia. As the Shuffle Alliance trains in the Guiana Highlands for the Gundam Fight finals, Master Asia and the Dark Gundam reappear.[3] With the help of his friends and a new ally in Neo Germany's masked warrior Schwarz Bruder, Domon defeats the Dark Gundam. When the Shining Gundam becomes incapacitated during the battle, Domon desperately manages to activate a newly acquired God Gundam(AKA Burning Gundam outside Japan), escape Master Asia, and make his way to the finals set in Neo Hong Kong.[2][4]
The Gundam Fight finals are presided over by Wong Yunfat, Neo Hong Kong's prime minister and the current ruler of the space colonies and Earth. Wong chooses to have the qualifying nations battle in one-on-one and tag team preliminary matches to reach a battle royale on Lantau Island, where the tournament is to end with the winner facing the defending champion Master Asia.[2][4] Having gained possession of the Dark Gundam, Wong secretly plots to revive and control it as his trump card to inevitably maintain his own power over space. Domon and his companions make their way to the battle royale while several truths concerning the Dark Gundam are unveiled. Rain's father, Dr. Mikamura, eventually explains that the Dark Gundam (originally called the Ultimate Gundam) was constructed by Dr. Kasshu to rejuvenate the dying Earth. Jealous of his genius colleague, Dr. Mikamura had Neo Japan's officials attempt to confiscate Kasshu's creation. To prevent the military from using his father's invention for its own agenda, Kyoji fled with and crash landed the Gundam on Earth, where its computer malfunctioned, triggering its malevolent activity. Ullube subsequently had Dr. Kasshu arrested, framed Kyoji as a criminal, and used Domon and Rain as pawns in recovering the Gundam.[4] In a separate confession, Master Asia discloses to Domon that, having been distressed by the utter destruction wrought by the Gundam Fights, he planned to use the Dark Gundam to wipe out humanity and allow Earth to heal naturally.[2] The battle on Lantau Island culminates with Domon fatally besting Master Asia in a final confrontation, while Kyoji and Schwarz sacrifice themselves so that Domon can attack the Dark Gundam's cockpit and disable it once again.[4] Though the schemes of both Wong and Master Asia are foiled, Ullube quietly claims the Dark Gundam and transports it to Neo Japan's space colony for his own purpose. Having been corrupted by DG cells with ambitions of supreme power, Ullube kidnaps Rain and places her into the Dark Gundam's core to act as its energy source. The hulking monstrosity then merges with the colony and begins absorbing Earth itself.[2] As the entire world's Gundams unite to assault the Dark Gundam from the outside, the Shuffle Alliance breaks inside the colony and destroys Ullube. Finally, Domon professes his love for Rain and releases her from the core. Invoking the power of the King of Hearts, the couple vanquishes the Dark Gundam once and for all
I just rewatched it like a month ago, its real good, def go watch it
if you are the kind of person who was maybe put off by OG gundams TONE or wing gundams edgy-ness, give g gundam a watch its honestly a good anime, its about as shonen as a shonen can legally get. Also its spiritual successor, the Build series is really good too, really liked Build Fighters Try A LOT, and I guess like.....it might be canon to this reality? its weird. Gundams weird when it comes to canonisity, its sort of all canon kinda.
∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀
Also the model kits for this show, and you knew I was going to bring up Gunpla at some point, well they come in two qualities
AWESOME and brand new
or shit and 20 years old
So if you collect these things like I do…..get both kinds of their kits
They’re good.
Have a good one

does victory gundam suck? everyone tells me not to watch it.
“Honestly? Yes. I am of the opinion that it does suck. It has it’s....very few, admittedly, pros (the music, for one, the Victory Gundam and its variants, as well as the mass produced models, the Gun-EZ), but honestly, the cons FAR outweigh them. Let’s review, shall we?” Ikura pulls down a projection screen and pulls out a thing to point with. I dunno what those are called, let’s just call it a ‘pointing stick’ and move on with this.
Wildly inconsistent in tone (not something Gundam is a stranger to, but HOLY SHIT it’s really bad in Victory. The main character, Usso, gets his upgraded Gundam....while he’s naked....and there’s a dog in the cockpit. This is after he is captured by the enemy faction (the Zanscare Empire), and is interrogated by a female lieutenant (I think that’s her rank?)....in a bath tub. She presses up against him and everything. Usso is 13.
I would put this up there with Space Runaway Ideon and Aura Battler Dunbine in terms of bodycount (Ideon is still the king because it kills the entire fucking universe, mind). There’s only two survivors at the end of it all.
FUCKING HELL, FRIDGING OUT THE WAZOO. If you’re not familiar with the concept, fridging is when a female character is killed off for no reason other than to have a male character (frequently- but not always- the protagonist) get some manpain. If you’re curious about the origins of the term, I recommend reading more either here or here. There is an ENTIRE FUCKING SQUADRON OF BADASS FEMALE MS PILOTS, AND NOT ONLY DO THEY ALL GET KILLED OFF, IT’S SOLELY SO USSO CAN ANGST.
The mechanical designs aren’t....very good. Like, seriously, the majority of the mechanical designs in Victory or from the Zanscare Empire, and, shit dude. Sometimes trying new things isn’t bad (see: the Leos in Wing, literally every mechanical design in AGE), but Aura Battler Dunbine this is not.
Bikini babe assault team. Just....just look it up.
The first four episodes are out of order due to executive meddling. Tomino wanted to build up to the Victory Gundam appearing, and intended for it to first appear in episode 4, but that got pushed into being episode 1. So now, what was episode 1 is 2, 2 is 3, and 3 is 4. Lovely, right?
Lastly, it’s officially condemned by Tomino himself. Considering how he views the other works from his depression, that is damning.
“That said, though, I have met tons of people who enjoyed it. I find the morbid bleakness of it overwhelming and unwatchable, honestly. If you’re going to watch an anime from Tomino’s Kill ‘em All period, go look at something like Ideon, Zambot 3, or Aura Battler Dunbine. In my opinion, this isn’t really worth your time. Now, if you need something after that to cheer you up, I suggest The King of Braves GaoGaiGar, Mobile Fighter G Gundam, Gundam G in Reconguista, or Overman King Gainer.”

"Now you've got it, Kaneki. You've learned the lesson that your mother couldn't seem to grasp: that sometimes to protect one thing, you have to have the resolve to let go of another. Her actions didn't make her kind, they made her weak. She didn't have the resolve, the strength to turn her back and focus on what's important. But you are not weak like she was. You have the power to break this chain of grief."
- Rize Kamishiro, Tokyo Ghoul (Ep. 12)
This week’s Toonami Trending Rundown is a double-feature for the weeks of June 24-25, 2017, as well as the 4th of July weekend of July 1-2, 2017. Some big moments for the better cartoon show as we reach the dog days of summer, as Part 1 of Tokyo Ghoul reaches its conclusion with Kaneki having to fight back against Jason and the inside conflicts in his mind by Rize. Meanwhile, the scouts make their move in getting back Eren and Ymir, Naruto confronts Pain, wanting revenge for his assault on the Leaf Village, among other great moments.
For the night of June 24th, every premiere show save for Attack on Titan successfully trended on Twitter in the US during their East Coast airings, in addition to Lupin and Naruto Shippuden during their West Coast airings. On tumblr, Toonami would trend in addition to Dragon Ball Super and Tokyo Ghoul.
Finally, Dragon Ball Super’s buzz would once again get the show on Nielsen Social’s top 5 most talked about shows on Twitter and Facebook, making it to the #4 spot. This is the 24th time a Toonami show has made it onto this list since we started recording this feat, and the 11th time for Super.
The following week was the 4th of July weekend, so Toonami took the night off from regular festivities to have an encore marathon of episodes 26-34 of Attack on Titan. Despite that many viewers decided to take the night off watching (whether it was because they were out for the 4th of July weekend, they simply didn’t want to watch the marathon, or were at Anime Expo) as well as Jeff Horn’s controversial victory over Manny Pacquiao overshadowing all the buzz, #AttackOnTitan did manage to trend in the US and on tumblr alongside Toonami.
Some big news coming out from Anime Expo this week. On Saturday, it was announced that following their successful showings in the previous year, both Gundam IBO and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure will indeed be returning to Toonami with the English Dub premieres of IBO season 2 and Stardust Crusaders respectively. While Iron Blooded Orphans will return in October, Stardust Crusaders will be up to bat next, debuting on July 29 at 12:30am, a week after Attack on Titan wraps up Season 2 (which itself has only 3 episodes remaining in the season as of this writing).
youtube
Production IG and Toonami also released some new information regarding FLCL during the panel on Sunday, including a new trailer for the two new additions to the franchise.
youtube
The panel, which included Production IG’s Maki Terashima-Furuta and Toonami’s Jason DeMarco and Gill Austin, announced that FLCL seasons 2 and 3 are set to be premiered on Toonami sometime in 2018 with a short “offseason” in-between the end of FLCL 2 and the beginning of FLCL 3. The subtitled version will be simulcasted on adultswim.com, and Production IG and Adult Swim are partnering up with Toho for distribution in Japan.
Both FLCL 2 and 3 will each have a duration of 6 episodes and will each have completely different storylines from each other, rather than a continuation. Season 2’s synopsis, according to Jason DeMarco: “stars a young girl named Midomi, who is a schoolgirl living a quiet life when suddenly she runs into a new substitute teacher who looks a lot like Haruko. And through a series of events, she and a boy in her class that she likes named Hide ends up getting caught up in the sort of battle between Medical Mechanica and a bunch of other things.”
While the new seasons will have some of the original staff involved, considering that it’s been over 17 years since FLCL 1 was made and some of the staff have since retired, Maki has mentioned that the producers decided to bring in a completely new generations of creators, including those that previously worked on other Toonami shows like One Piece, One Punch Man, Space Dandy, and Naruto, as well as other shows like My Hero Academia, Psycho Pass, and Mob Psycho 100. The show will be produced by Production IG in collaboration with Studio Bones.
The Pillows, the Japanese rock band made famous internationally for their musical contribution to the original series, will return to make new tracks for the sequels. In addition, a graphic novel will also be made to accompany the series. We’ve yet to hear anything about the cast, and Kari Walgren, the voice of Haruko, has yet to hear if she will be reprising her role, but we’ll keep you posted.
Other related news of note from LA include:
Discotech showcased a TV special of Lupin the Third: The Italian Game, which is a direct spinoff of Part 4, which we are seeing now. In addition, during the Japan Expo this week in Paris, it was announced that a Part 5 of the series in the works, set this time in France. Could we be seeing more Lupin on the better cartoon show down the line? We'll see.
Despite being a well requested show by the Toonami community, Mob Psycho 100 has not been as fortunate as its sister show One Punch Man in terms of making it to the better cartoon show as of now. Hoping to change that, Chris Niosi, the voice of Reigen along with a meetup of MP100 fans attempted to make their voices heard. We wish the Mob Psycho community as well as other fans of shows wanting to make it to Toonami eventually, the best of luck and to not give up.
Aniplex has also been working on a dub for the Blue Exorcist Kyoto Saga, which the first set of the DVDs and Blu-Rays set to ship on November 14, the second set meanwhile on February 13, 2018. Unfortunately, with Hulu having exclusive rights to premiere the dub, we’ll have to wait awhile for this franchise to make a return to the better cartoon show much like Sailor Moon at present with its current contract with Hulu/Neon Alley, and like InuYasha: The Final Act and Blue Exorcist season 1 before (the latter two shows had dub premieres on Neon Alley on its launch in 2012, with Toonami airing them 2 years later). On a related note, Aniplex has also re-released Blu-Rays and DVDs for season 1 of both Blue Exorcist and Sword Art Online, so for those wanting to add those to their collections, they’re available now.
Although we haven’t heard officially from Funimation themselves on this matter, we’ve been hearing word from several sources that Funimation did announce during a panel that Attack on Titan season 3 will be a part of the Spring 2018 lineup (which normally starts in Japan around March-April). Season 2 started in the Spring 2017 lineup with a debut on April 1 in Japan, with the broadcast dub premiering on Toonami 3 weeks later on April 22, so barring any delays and other unforeseen circumstances, we’ll likely see a similar release date for the new season next year.
A big special thanks to CJ Maffris and other members of the Toonami Faithful who were at Anime Expo for their assistance in getting us this information. And of course, San Diego Comic Con is on the horizon in 2 weeks, and with Toonami having another live episode of Pre-Flight, we might be hearing some more things to look forward to in the future, including information regarding the next Total Immersion Event. I personally will be attending SDCC once again on behalf of ToonamiFaithful.com to cover some of this potential news, so we’ll keep you posted.
A little programming note for next week: Due to lackluster ratings from the encore presentation of Samurai Jack, the show will be moving its season 5 encore runs to 8:30pm, following the primetime premiere of DBS and at 3:30am Eastern, following Ghost In The Shell. This also means Toonami will once again be starting at 11:30pm-3:30am ET for the foreseeable future. While it’s likely 11pm will be given back to Toonami once FLCL returns, it’s a bit too early to say anything in that regard as of yet.
And on that note, tune in Saturday as Tokyo Ghoul begins √A, while DBZ beings the Majin Buu saga, among other great moments. Until next week, have a Happy (late) Independence Day and stay gold.
Legend: The shows listed are ordered based on their appearance on the schedule. Show trends are listed in bold. The number next to the listed trend represents the highest it trended on the list (not counting the promoted trend), judging only by the images placed in the rundown. For the Twitter tweet counts, the listed number of tweets are also sorely based on the highest number shown based on the images on the rundown.

An interview with Kawanishi Kengo (Mika's VA) and Hosoya Yoshimasa (Orga's VA) from Bandai’s site that I half-accidentally translated some time ago. Posting it here, too, for archieving purposes. The interview itself is dated 2016/12/25, so the recent plot developments aren't accounted for.
ORGA IS THE CHARACTER WHO HAS CHANGED THE MOST
--Tell us please where can you feel the characters' growth the most?
KK: For better or for worse, Mika's been laid back as ever since season 1. He's grown but hasn't changed. He's farming and growing crops, so could it be that he's starting to get desires of his own? His comrades might think that he's changed a little, but that's all his growth amounts to.
HY: Having come in contact with big organizations like Teiwaz and Gjallarhorn, Orga caught a glimpse of the world of political bargaining and saw for himself what big organizations are and the power that exist further down the road. By delivering Kudelia where she needed to be delivered to, he succeeded in making Tekkadan big. But Tekkadan is still a new player on that stage compared to Teiwaz and Gjallarhorn, but despite the fact, he strives to make it even bigger now by following the shortest route through gaining more achievements and becoming even more famous. So where his growth shows is not wars fought with weapons but how he adapted himself to fight in political battles and win gains there. What is changing is the way he fights. The organization they belonged to at first was a group of uneducated and abandoned kids. Having come from such an environment, Orga has gained experience and various knowledge and is now spearheading Tekkadan. He's not Jeanne d'Arc, but in season 1 he often used to be in the vanguard himself, leading assaults personally, but now he'd rather supervise the battlefield from the sidelines and device strategy. He's not on the battlefield, but he puts his knowledge to use to predict how the situation will develop and tries to make his organization through making alliances with others. That's what his current position is.
--I feel the change in the environment and his current status is reflected in him wearing a suit...
HY: Yes, he's not in fatigues anymore. Although he partakes in actual warfare, he's acquired enough knowledge and culture to hold the execs meetings, and he does his best to have his emotions in check. He's now in the position to "fight" for his organization in a suit as its representative, which he can't do in fatigues since he won't be taken seriously. So I think Orga is the character who's changed the most.
THE DISTANCE BETWEEN ORGA AND MIKAZUKI DIDN'T CHANGE ANY
--In season 2 Orga and Mikazuki's attires are completely different, and their positions seem very different as well. Did their relationship change though?
KK: I've never given it a thought until now.
HY: I think it didn't change. In my perception, the bond between Orga and Mika isn't just strong, it's a given, like breathing. I don't feel that they've drifted apart any even now.
KK: Orga has a lot on his plate, he doesn't have much time to spend on Mika, so it might look they don't see each other as often as they used to, but I think the distance between Orga and Mika didn't change any.
HY: They don't talk as often as in season 1. But even without those talk scenes between them, they have a long history together, so they're not worried about one another. Or rather, they completely trust each other. It was probably Orga who appointed Mikazuki the commando unit leader, I think. And it's probably because he believes that Mika can turn the situation to his advantage and seize victory anyway even if Orga is not on the battlefield. To Orga, Mika is his secret and ultimate weapon. When he says "I'm counting on you", it's not a request but him trusting that Mika will be alright. Mika probably thinks the same too.
--What characters do you find yourself more interested in than in season 1?
KK: Probably Cookie and Cracker. It isn't emphasized, but they must be sad after Biscuit's death, although now they're going to school. There was a scene with a terrorist bombing in episode 1 where they begged Mika not to go, but on the other hand, they seem to support each other.
HY: I'm much more interested in McGillis Fareed. In what exactly that guy's thinking (*laugh*). His words can be lie or truth with equal ease and he can alter between the two to suit his purpose. It's like when talking with people, he gives them some information and only decides whether to make it true or false after the fact, when no one's around. In season 2, when Tekkadan and McGillis-led part of Gjallarhorn join forces, Orga, as Tekkadan's representative, didn't trust him until the handshake, and the atmosphere in general was kind of explosive, but in the end it all went according to McGillis' intentions and he won over Tekkadan to his side. Orga isn't a fool, so he was ready for a confrontation, I think. But it's not exactly an exaggeration to say that he does dance in the palm of McGillis' hand. So yeah, I'm interested in McGillis, since we're seeing his more enigmatic side compared to season 1.
THE FEEL OF REAL PUNCHES CONNECTING IS WHAT I BELIEVE TO BE THE MOST ENJOYABLE PART OF MOBILE SUIT BATTLES IN ORPHANS
--Please tell us who among the characters that got introduced in season 2 you like (or are interested in) the most?
KK: I'm curious about Dane. Hush's past has already been revealed. And Zack is a guy easy to figure out. While Dane is still an enigma (*laugh*). Just when you think he's always kind and smiles gently, he goes and says "Ah", so among the new bunch for me it's Dane.
HY: Hmm, let's see. While he's not a character introduced in season 2, I'm curious about Naze-san. When we first saw Orga wearing a suit, I thought that it was probably Naze-san to choose that suit for him. Orga may be in charge of running a sizeable organization, but it's a first for him, and compared to Naze-san, his methods are rough and his armor is not without chinks in it. There was a scene where Naze-san says that Orga sucks when he told Amida-san about the situation at the time. To Naze-san, Orga is probably a cute little brother, and Orga's youth and energy probably makes him think something like how good it is to be young. Naze-san has probably been through many life threatening experiences, and from his viewpoint, there probably came a time when he ceased to be like Orga. So when I saw the scene where he is worried about Orga, I started wondering myself if he was going to be alright. So I'm curious about what he's up to and how he's doing (*laugh*).
--Since the beginning of season 2, we had a land battle followed up by a space battle. What is the most enjoyable part of Mobile Suit battles, in your opinion?
KK: In Orphans, like in Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team, you can really feel the physical mass. And in my opinion, that feel is the main enjoyment of Mobile Suit battles, and just robot action in general. In many previous works, a beam weapon just shot through the enemy and that was it, the sense of a life and death situation was vague or lacking at best, and I didn't really feel lives were on the line. So I had a thought that punching so that the sensation is left in your hand just might be a better way. And this feel of real punches connecting is what I believe to be the most enjoyable part of Mobile Suit battles in Orphans.
HY: To me, it's the tangibly physical nature of Mobile Suit fights, the use of gunpowder and absence of beam weapons, I think. Mobile Suits don't exist IRL, but in Orphans they are presented as weapons made to be as close to our reality as possible. There are scenes where Mika is talking with Barbatos from time to time, but I prefer scenes where it's shown in full that Mobile Suits are indeed weapons. You're asking what the most enjoyable part of such battles is, but I've never piloted a Mobile Suit in my life, so I wouldn't really know (*laugh*)
I REALLY FIND THIS SERIES TO BE WONDERFUL, SO I REALLY HOPE IT WILL LEAVE ITS MARK IN THE ANIME HISTORY
--Tell us what Mobile Suits do you like?
HY: Barbatos! (*laugh*) KK: Every MS is loved by everyone. Each has a drama to go with it. Based on my role, I'd say Barbatos, but as a viewer I love Gusion. It has so many arms and is so cool (*laugh*).
--Please tell us if you have any favorite Gundam series.
KK: I always name Mobile Fighter G Gundam when I'm asked this, and I indeed love it. It's a nice portrayal of friendship between sweaty men.
HY: For me it's season 1 of Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans! (*laugh*)
--We asked you the same question last year as well, but let us ask you again: if you were to choose a Christmas present for Mikazuki and Orga who both are now a little older, what would you choose?
HY: I wish I could present 6.0% TV ratings not only to Mika and Orga but also to all the staff involved. They are legendary. And I want to make a legend (*laugh*).
KK: Since presently Mikazuki's right arm doesn't work, just hanging limply, I'd present him some stylish sling (*laugh*).
--In conclusion, a few words to our readers.
KK: I heard that the plastic models of Barbatos were selling like hotcakes during season 1. Season 2 will introduce even more new mechas, and a new Gundam frame excavated on Mars is making its debut, too, so please buy the Gundams from season 2 as well and build your own original Tekkadan to play with!
HY: Most of TV anime projects tend to be 1 cour only these days, so I personally am very happy to be involved in a project of Orphans' length. I heard from various sources that video recording ratings [T/N: when watchers record a TV show broadcast] for Orphans are very good. But it's still about TV ratings. If they exceed expectations, it will be possible to make history, and Orphans will be able to leave its mark in the history of animation. Although admittedly my wish in part has to do with me being part of this project, I really find this series to be wonderful, so I really hope it will leave its mark in the anime history and become a series that in 10 years you can brag about watching. Knowing that a great many viewers follow this series is important, so please watch it in real time, too, so we can make the legend together! I'm counting on you all!
