I think it's going to go the way all of their IG "tours" go.
why do you think they're trying to frame it differently to their other tours? it's not the first time they travelled abroad
and do you think it'll be a success in the way of half-in half-out?
In a way, it's more of a recruitment trip for them and I suspect it's a bit of do-or-die, make-or-break kind of a trip.
If you look at their prior travels, it's all been "done deal" trips, where all they really had to do was show up. The Hague, Dusseldorf, and Vancouver Invictus Games were set up before Megxit (Hague and Dusseldorf definitely, less confident on Vancouver but the timeline kinda lines up for some sort of ancillary support from the BRF) using BRF/Royal Foundation staffers and connections to make the arrangements.
(ohhhhhhh god I just actually read the IG press release (archived link) that came out this morning. Harry announced the shortlist finalists for the 2027 Invictus Games. It's Birmingham UK and Washington DC. I cannot, you guys. I cannot be waking up to the Sussexes on my local news, in my local papers, on my social media algorithms.)
Anyway, this is the first time that Harry has really had to work to recruit hosts for Invictus Games. He started last year with a mini-trip to Japan but my feeling is Japan gave a big fat NO because they didn't send anyone to compete in Dusseldorf and then almost right away Harry started love-bombing Nigeria. First by becoming their groupies at IG. Then sending period products and school supplies to Nigerian schools. Now having negotiated a trip. (And these trips don't just pop up at the last minute; this is something that's been in the works for quite some time, especially since the military seems to be involved.)
Now consider this article from The Express, which reports that at least 2,000 veterans have quit/left Invictus Games because they're unhappy it's turned into the Harry-and-Meghan-Fauxyal-Tour. 2,000 is a HUGE number...especially considering that just 513 veterans competed in Dusseldorf IG. (Each of the Games has about 500 athletes. That's not a sustainable business model. For comparison: the 2022 Warrior Games had 300 athletes participating from 3 countries - the US, Canada, and Ukraine.)
And remember the essay I wrote a couple weeks ago about how Invictus Games had to be thinking about cutting Harry loose because he doesn't really do anything for them? (I honestly can't find it tonight. If anyone has a link, can you please share it? I thought I tagged that post but it's not coming up.)
So both of those things coming together - having to recruit for IG hosts now and blood in the IG water over veterans complaining about the Sussexes - means that Harry really needs the Nigeria trip to go well if he wants to keep Invictus Games. So he's got to actually work on this trip, and so does Meghan, so they're defaulting back to royal protocols hoping that the protocols are enough to woo and lovebomb people. I think what they're trying to do is say "if we come, this is all the attention and all the media that we'll bring with us, now imagine how much more attention and coverage you'll get over the next 5 years when you're an Invictus Games host."
It is kinda half in/half out, especially since it looks like government officials and Defense officials are involved in the trip (and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Harry rolls up with his medals again). But it feels more like desperation to me. They made their bed four years ago abusing and using Invictus Games because they could, only now Invictus Games has come to collect and is demanding they make good on Harry's role as Patron.
From a lot of the recent news coverage - Harry's leaks to the Express about pulling out of the anniversary service, Invictus Games now clapping back about how the veterans don't want Harry involved anymore, all the hype about their groundbreaking royal/anti-royal trip to Nigeria, and the confirmation that the Nigeria trip is expressly because of Invictus Games - there's definitely something happening behind closed doors at Invictus Games that seems to be making the Sussexes very nervous if they're now pivoting back to royal cosplay.
And also let's not forget the rumor that Mike Tindall has been asked to be an ambassador for Invictus Games in a role that might supplant Harry.
And not only that, I also feel like Harry and Meghan think that if the Nigeria trip goes well and it's a success and they come away with a deal for 2029 Invictus Games or having reversed their popularity slide, they can use it to shoehorn half in/half out from Charles by being able to point to this and say "see? We can do this. Look at what you're missing. You need us."
I'm not sure if it will be a success. The Sussexes often get in the way of their own selves when they really need things to go well and this trip is rife with potential for that. From the security concerns to military cosplay to appearance of it being an official visit on Charles's behalf to Diana cosplays to the goverment/Nigerian military involvement to just their personalities and mannerisms, it won't take much for something to go wrong. It'll take everything for the trip to go well.
On the one hand, I hope it works. I know how much Invictus Games means to Harry and I think he really derives some kind of true joy from being able to provide these services and opportunities to his fellow veterans and soldiers. But on the other hand, I hope it goes wrong ten ways to Sunday so Charles has no choice but to step in and remind everyone - Sussexes and the Commonwealth alike - that there's no half in/half out without his approval and they do not have it, no matter what the Sussexes pretend otherwise.

help me figure out my personal/profesionnal life (jk i'm just feeling messy and curious because i seriously don't know what to fucking do)
for context: i've been working successfully in the vfx industry since 2016. unfortunately, following the (much needed) hollywood strikes last summer, the industry was shaken. then, as the vfx industry was slowly starting to get up from the 2023 strikes, my government (quebec, canada), decided to cut much needed tax credits/funding for the industry. this decision was announced only a month ago (june 2024), which means the industry will not get better and will actually mostly die out, because it relied a lot on this funding to support the artists' salaries. it's estimated that only 20% of jobs will remain in the province where i live by 2025 (i myself have been unemployed for 6 months now). i am not a senior artist, so i would struggle finding a job with so little openings and multiple artists fighting for the same opportunities. i like working in the industry, the money is good enough for me and the projects can be interesting. but it's also a lot of overtime work sometimes, and it's quite a volatile industry since it's not regulated/unionized.
even more context: i'm 31, i have no money, no savings, a few k's of credit/film school debt left to pay, and that kind of "specialized" work i did for 7 years (vfx compositing) is a bit too niche to be applied to another job, to be honest. the two main options are to follow the industry somewhere else in canada (like vancouver or toronto, which are both a lot more expensive than my current city), or even london and especially australia; or start over with a new career. moving sounds fun and quite daunting, but i also don't have much money, no family outside of my province, and i have 3 cats to think about. there's also the possibility to keep working in the film industry but to do something else. which would also require to restart from the almost bottom. i also have no clue what kind of job/career i wanna do if not vfx, but i'm trying to stay open minded about it. what would you do?

summary: quinn hughes was a grade A asshole, but will that change?

i’m hopeless, broken / i don’t want to be alone / lovin you’s the antidote
quinn hughes could only be described with one word: moody. he had those sad eyes, and he rarely even smiled. that was, until he met you.
quinn can admit, when he first met you, he wasn’t fond of you whatsoever. you joined the canucks’ team as a medic physician around a year ago.

you walked down the hallway, locating the physician room with the instructions given to you. the blue walls around you felt like they were closing in due to your nerves. you had no idea where you were going, but surely if someone saw you lost and roaming the halls, they’d deem you unprofessional. it’s your first day on the job, surely they can cut you some slack.
you open the glass door and step into the room, the cool air hitting your bare arms. you find somewhere to set your bag down and take a seat at rolly-chair by a desk. score. your short celebration about the chair you found is cut short when you hear soft knocking on the door. you look up and see none other than quinn hughes standing there. you internally punch yourself and tell yourself to remain calm.
of course you knew who quinn was, you had social media.
“uh… who are you?” you know he didn’t mean it a rude way, because you’d react the same if you saw someone you didn’t know as your doctor.
“i’m one of the new medic physicians. y/n l/n” you give him a smile and he looks at you skeptically. he nods his head and makes his way to one of the examination tables, taking a seat. you weren’t expecting to start the job already, but duty calls. he has a hard look on his face as he stares at the floor.
“what brings you in here?” he briefly looks up, meeting your eyes and then he goes back to looking at the floor.
“coach thinks i have a concussion.” you nod and do the proper checks on him and he’s not showing any concussion symptoms.
“you don’t have any signs of a concussion, but if i were you-” he abruptly cuts you off.
“which you’re not. let me do me. you’re just here to play doctor.” he then walks back out the door and you’re taken back a bit by his little outburst. you tell yourself not to take it to heart since he may just be having a bad day. you knew all too well what it was like to have people constantly pestering you when you just wanted to be left alone. it was one of the many reasons you left your life behind and moved all the way to vancouver.
it was a big risk, but what’s life without taking a couple risky moves?
you take a deep breath in and count to seven, then exhaling. you were amazing at what you do and you wouldn’t let one foul interaction make you question that.
the rest of the day, you had players coming in and out of the room. some to introduce themselves and say hi, and others because they genuinely needed the help.
overall, you’d say you had a great first day. sure, quinn was a little snappy, but you’re sure he’s just having one of those days.

however, as the months went on, he showed no sign of easing up.

you’d been working with the canucks for about six months now and you are certain that quinn hughes is making it his job to make your life a personal hell.
he refuses to have you help him no matter the circumstances. claiming, “i’ll walk it off.” but he’ll let the other physician check on him. no matter what, you pushed through and always told him “good morning” or “good luck on your game tonight.”
you kept telling yourself that the best way to befriend someone is with kindness. one day he’ll come around. you don’t know when, but one day. so until that day comes around, you’ll suck in your pride and tolerate his bitchiness.
speak of the devil and he shall appear because here comes mr hughes strolling off the ice with a slight limp to his gait.
“hughes, what did you do?” when he hears your voice, he looks up and groans, turning around and walking the other way. however, when he goes to step back on the ice, the coach stops him.
“woah, quinn. you just told me your ankle hurt. y/n give you the all clear or does she want you to get hurt even more?” quinn sighed because he knew the inevitable was here. he turned back around and limped to your office and walked through the door with a glare on his face. you just watched as he stormed past you like an angry toddler sent to bed.
you walk in, giving him the option to have the door opened or closed. something you always did with the guys that they seemed to appreciate. you’d be surprised at how many players like the door open. claiming they “want to hear what’s going on outside.” he chose to close it and you nod.
“what did you do?” he didn’t answer you and you nodded your head. “alright, so i’m going to take a wild guess here and say that kuzy fell on your ankle during drills?” he looks up and meets your eyes and you almost forget about how much of an asshole he’s been to you because holy- his eyes were gorgeous.
they weren’t a hey-look-at-me-i-have-blue-eyes kind of blue. no, they were more of a subtle blue. the hue of blue you’d see as the sun is starting to rise in the sky. and the blue practice jersey he was wearing was accentuating that.
“i- yeah.” you snap out of your thoughts, squatting down. “so i need to take your skate off and get a better look at your ankle. is that okay? or do you want to do it yourself?” he shakes his head and you gingerly untie his skate, not knowing his pain level right now. once you get it off and all the other stuff with it, you see it’s slightly swollen.
“it’s not too bad. you’ll probably have to sit out for the rest of practice and ice it. because if you put pressure on it-”
“save me the explanation. i got it” okay what did you do to him? did you look at him the wrong way or breathe in the wrong direction? you stand up and place your hands on your hips.
“okay, i have done nothing but been nice to you, quinn. i always say good morning to you, always wish you good luck on every. single. game. i don’t understand what the hell your problem is with me and i’m tired of being walked over!” you huff out “y’know what, just- let me get you some ice and then you can leave. you can go back to sulking or whatever it is you do.” you grumble out and walk to the freezer and grab an ice pack. you grab a couple paper towels and wrap them around the ice pack.
you hand quinn the ice pack and he takes it, walking out the door without saying anything. when he’s gone, you take a seat and rest your head in your hands, letting a couple tears slip out. you felt so hopeless for trying to befriend someone as stubborn as quinn hughes. you kept telling yourself you wouldn’t let him affect you, but these were angry tears.
you didn’t even notice the person knocking at the door. so it surprised you when you felt a hand on your shoulder. you jumped back and looked up to see elias. he had a worried look on his face and you hastily wiped at the tears on your face.
“what’s up elias? your hamstring feeling better?” he nods and pulls up a stool, taking a seat on it.
“why’re you crying?” you wave him off
“it’s nothing, really.” you let out a humorless laugh
“it’s not nothing if you’re crying over it.” bless his heart. one thing you did gain from this job was picking up on the players’ personalities. elias was attentive and noticed even the smallest of changes.
“just frustrated tears.” he nods
“frustrated over what?” you could be honest, or you could be slightly honest.
“someone was giving me a difficult time & i didn’t understand why. i’d been trying my hardest to be nice to them and they kept being an ass.” he laughed at your use of profanity and it made you smile.
“well whoever it is, they’re a dick.” now it was your turn to laugh. if only he knew who he was calling a dick.
“yeah, but it’ll be fine.” his brows furrow again
“it’s not fine if they’re being a jerk.”
“i gave them a piece of my mind.” he nods
“good. hit them with your stethoscope if they try anything again.” you softly laugh and he stands up. he ruffles your hair and says goodbye before he leaves.
the day seemed to stretch on forever and you were itching to leave. when it finally hit 6, you couldn’t have been happier. instead of going to your apartment, you made your way to a pub you’ve been to numerous times since moving here. you’re honestly glad you ubered to work that day. that meant you could have your preferred five drinks with a bloody mary on the side and not worry about finding a way to get home.
you take a seat at a barstool at the counter and flag over a bartender.
“what will it be tonight, dear?” the slightly older woman asks and you shrug.
“something strong on the rocks.” she nods and goes to fixing you a drink as you sit there with your hands clasped in front of you, fidgeting with your class ring. a little token reminder that you’d proven your family wrong and you were nothing like them.
a glass of an amber-colored liquid is placed in front of you and you thank the woman, taking a sip. the burning sensation coats your throat and you slightly grimace.
three drinks later, you can feel the alcohol coursing through your veins. you’d started to chat up the bartender and she was wondering why you were “wasting your youth” in a bar on a wednesday night. all you said was, “men.” and she nodded knowingly and poured you another drink.
you then feel a presence near you and you downed the rest of your drink.
“how much have you had to drink?” you knew that voice. you look to the right of you and your suspicions are confirmed when you see those familiar blue eyes and mop of brown hair.
“none of your business.”
“come on y/n-” you point a finger at him.
“don’t ‘come on y/n’ me, hughes. you made it very clear that you want nothing to do with me.” you placed a fifty on the counter and got up, slipping on your jacket and heading out of the bar, the cold, vancouver air hitting you in the face. you order an uber and stand there, arms crossed across your chest for warmth as you wait.
“y/n, let me talk, please?”
“is that not what you’re doing right now?” he sighs
“i wasn’t nice to you because you’re just so… you.” you scoff
“wow, what a great explanation for the past six months of you being an asshole.” he chuckles
“let me finish. you’re this ball of sunshine. you always brighten up people’s days no matter what. you always put others needs before yourself. you’re just so selfless like that. you have the kindest soul out of anyone i’ve ever met. and god, y/n, you’re so damn pretty.” his last comment makes you blush slightly.
“quinn- i’m not following. why say all these nice things and act like a complete dick to me?”
“because you intimidate me. i’m so scared of saying something wrong and messing everything up. you deserve the best of the best. and i figured it would be best to just keep you at a distance than to do something wrong.” you step closer to him and you can practically feel his body heat radiating onto you.
“quinn, have you ever thought about how i felt?” he looks up from the ground at you and your eyes are slightly glassy.
“please don’t cry.” you shake your head and look up at the dark sky, trying to keep the tears at bay. were they tears of joy because he said all those mushy-gushy things about you, or were they tears of all the pent up emotions at how he’s treated you?
“you spent the last six months making me feel like i was a burden. like i had killed your brother or something. quinn, you made me feel like a nuisance.” he sucks in a breath and nods
“and i take full ownership of my actions. i should’ve talked to you. hell, i should’ve done more than that.” he takes a deep breath in. “can we start over?” you have a mental debate with yourself for a minute before nodding. quinn smiles and it knocks the breath out your lungs. holy shit his smile was beautiful. maybe evern more than his eyes.
quinn sticks out his hand in between the two of you.
“quinn hughes, canucks’ defenseman. nice to meet you” you take his hand in yours and shake his.
“y/n l/n, canucks’ medical physician. nice to meet you too.”

from that day forward, you and quinn started to bond more. you started to look forward to work more. life felt like it had a purpose if it meant quinn hughes was there.
quinn can say the same. you started to infect his life and his gloomy days started to brighten. it’s like he was driving in the rain and finally figured out how to turn in his windshield wipers.
it was months later after the two of you made up that he asked you out officially. nobody on the team had a clue that the two of you had been getting closer.
fast forward to bo getting traded to the islanders. you can tell the trade affected everyone on the team. they lost their captain, for crying out loud. you can tell it affected quinn, especially, since he’d be given that infamous ‘A’ on his jersey.
he opened up to you when he came over to your apartment one night.

it was pouring rain, so when you heard a knock on your door, you were a bit puzzled as to who it could be. you open the door and see your boyfriend standing there sipping wet and you usher him in.
“q, baby, you’re drenched. why didn’t you bring an umbrella?” he shrugged and you brought him to the bathroom.
“stay in here while i get you a change of clothes, okay?” he nodded and you tried your best to hurry because wet clothes are cold and you know how the feeling is. a minute later you’re stepping back into the bathroom with a pair of sweats and a canucks’ t-shirt in hand.
“i’ll be in the living room while you change. just set your wet clothes in the tub and i’ll make sure to wash them later.” he nods and his quiet state was worrying you a bit. as well as his unexpected visit during the storm.
quinn joins you on the couch a few minutes later and you turn down the volume of whatever was on the tv and face him.
“why’d you come all the way over here in the rain?” he’s silent again and you place a hand on his cheek, angling his face to look at you. you rub your thumb across his cheek soothingly and it’s like that’s what it takes for the dam to break. quinn pulls you into him and buried his head in your shoulder.
“i’m here. let it all out.” you rubbed his back soothingly as he cried. it absolutely broke your heart to hear his quiet sobs. sure, months ago you two were at each others throats, but now you know quinn. your quinn.
once he cried himself dry, he pulled apart and you took the sleeve of your shirt and wiped at his eyes. speaking of his eyes, they met yours and you pulled him closer to you, placing a kiss on his forehead.
“talk to me. what’s going on?” you softly asked him and he let out a shaky exhale.
“since bo’s trade, i feel like there’s just so much pressure on me. i have such big shoes to fill. and i get that elias also has an ‘A’ but i feel like there’s just so much more put onto me just because of my last name. jack is so successful and meanwhile my team can’t even make it to the playoffs. and now i’m given one of the most important jobs on the team? i’m scared, y/n. and i don’t want to be alone right now.”
you pull him back into you and card your fingers through his hair soothingly as you lie on your couch wrapped up with one another.
“quinn, you’re doing amazing. you go out there every game, and you play your best. that’s all everyone should ask of you. the ‘A’ is just a letter. sure, it comes with responsibilities, but you have your team to lean on, yeah? it takes more than one person to make a team, baby. you’ve done so much for them already and you’re fucking amazing at what you do. so what jack is successful? so. are. you. you’re a hughes. you have success running through your veins. like, your mom is ellen fucking hughes.” he laughs at your last statement and looks up at you.
“i’m so in love with you.”
you know that scene in inside out where they press the panic button and the red lights are flashing? that’s how you felt right now. the two of you haven’t said those three sacred words to one another. it takes you a minute before you realize yeah, you love quinn.
“and i’m in love with you.” he gives you a sweet kiss and then rests his head on your chest.

“babe! beau taught me another french word.” you laugh and cross your legs, turning on your couch to face quinn who just let himself in your apartment.
“let me hear it mr bilingual.”
“chérie” you can’t lie, the way it flowed off his tongue was hot.
“say it again.” quinn repeats it and you smile. “now what does it mean?” he stalks over to you and leans over the back of the couch.
“darling,” he says, bringing your lips to his into a kiss. he pulls back and smirks at you.
“trying to get beau to be your wingman.” he shrugs
“maybe.” you laugh and roll your eyes

you will say, a downside to being with quinn is when he gets injured and your anxiety sky-rockets. luckily, you’re a physician, so if he gets hurt during games, you get to be the one to fix him up.
like tonight for example. quinn received a puck to the face and he came to you with blood running down his face.
“quinn, oh my god, what happened?”
“puck to the face.” he sits down on the examination table and you start to clean his wound. you stand in between his legs as you clean all the blood off and his hands place themselves instinctively on your waist.
“you worry me so much.”
“i’m sorry pretty girl, it comes with the job.” you softly laugh and throw away the bloody tissues.
“you’re all fixed, romeo. just try to be more careful?” he nods and gives you a quick peck to the lips before leaving.
staying true to his word, he didn’t get injured anymore throughout the game. a con, though? he had team pictures the next day.
so here you stood, on the sidelines watching as all the guys lined up for their pictures.
“y/n? what’re you doing here?” one of the higher up people ask and you shrugged. you and quinn’s relationship was still a secret.
“the last picture day i was at was in elementary school. so i’m curious to see how hockey players do it.” the person laughs and nods.
quinn left the apartment this morning telling you he had team pictures and that he’d be home no later than 2. so you thought, why not surprise him with lunch. so that’s why you were here. and his tim horton’s order was in your car where it was warm.
when the pictures were over, quinn happened to spot you and he lit up, skating over to you. he gives you a kiss and you hear some hoots and hollers behind the two of you.
“huggy, how long have you two been together?” kuzy asks and you and quinn look at one another.
“3-4 months?” everyone gasps and your face heats up.
“so is that why he’s been asking me different french words?” beau asks and quinn nods
“anyways,” you loudly say at the team, then focusing your attention at quinn. “i have your lunch in the car so it doesn’t get cold.” he smiles and nods, heading off to get changed. the whole team is looking at you and you sigh.
“ask your questions.” they all then start shooting out different questions at you and while you’re answering them, quinn had finished changing and was watching you interact with his teammates. a soft smile was on his face and he realized how you were what he’s been searching for all these years.

thinking about matt woe.begone and how easily he accepted his death. like-- i don't even think he cared that it was a necessary evil in order to save him, i think he saw it simply as a chance to die.
tw for discussion of fictional suicidal ideation under the cut
see, him dying in the car wreck was never the horrific freak accident that everyone believed it was. every second of the crash was meticulously planned and plotted, and matt was still a coward who couldn't even die properly, because mike just had to go and get involved.
that's why it was so easy to give him the gun.
to mike, it was a rescue mission. to matt, it was just some long-coming end to a bitter fight with his own mind; even if it wasn't self-inflicted, it was an inevitability he'd already come to terms with even before he'd met mike and tried to learn to love living again and failed halfway.
he deserved whatever was coming to him, after mike changed history without his knowing and all that really happened in the crash that night was matt breaking his wrist in two places, shattering his survival instinct along with it. he wishes he remembered what it was like to die. he doesn't, until mike shows up in vancouver with tears in his eyes.
mike saved him but now he has to kill him and that human instinct to keep living has been gone for a long time but he puts up a fight because he has to. mike starts crying and then matt starts crying. matt can't breathe and mike is gone again and he comes back, different, changed, and there's two of them and it's not just because matt's eye is already turning purple, freshly bruised.
matt thinks that, in a different life, he wouldn't have forgiven mike for this. he died, he was supposed to die, but mike just couldn't leave it—him—alone. maybe things would've been better if he hadn't interfered. mike told him he couldn't sleep after he died and some nights he woke up screaming and he never moved on, not really, but life was temporary anyways and matt was never going to live forever. he was never going to live as long as he had now.
this was all mike's fault and as much as he loves mike walters—to death—he hates him right now, standing on the other side of the too-small kitchen table looking so guilty it makes matt sick. still, he takes a deep breath, then another. he tells mike the truth, all of it, about the car wreck and all of the broken bones and the bottle of pills in his medicine cabinet and he never stops crying but mike doesn't either. then he pushes the gun across the table and tells him that it's okay.

Hmm, alright, we'll take a gander. Guesses listed by character. June and Nick at the top, everyone else under the cut for length reasons.
June:
She and Holly will not make it to Hawaii. The train may be intercepted before reaching Vancouver or the ship is attacked after leaving port, we're not entirely sure. But whatever happens, Hawaii isn't happening.
She and Serena will briefly work together to survive.
They will part ways amicably as Serena returns to Gilead and June goes into hiding, assisted by Mark Tuello at the behest of Nick. June won't know of any of this as Mark keeps Nick's secret, though he may feel conflicted about doing so.
June will head to the wilds of California and connect with Mayday there. She will get into contact with Nick and Joseph.
June will make her way to New Bethlehem where she meets up with Nick. Luke will also be there. Long awkward looks ensue.
June will be in grave danger again and forced to go underground. She and Nick choose to send Holly away, and the scene is devastating.
June will not choose between Nick or Luke, and we won't have much of an idea as to what her final choice will be.
Nick:
He's released from prison, mentally scarred but physically ok. His release will be facilitated by Joseph, who makes a cryptic reference to Eleanor being the reason he's doing this.
He'll continue to be involved with the New Bethlehem idea. This involvement helps him to feed information to Tuello.
He and Teullo will meet again. The scene will be thick with layers.
He'll have to negotiate the very tricky grounds where he's working for/with Tuello, Mayday, Joseph and June, while being suspected by Rose's father and Commander Mackenzie.
Tension will be thick between him and Rose, and she will be evidently angry at him while Nick will clearly feel guilt about hurting her.
The baby will die and possibly Rose as well, leaving Nick deeply traumatised and at a loss as to what to do.
Nick (and possibly Rose if she's alive) will go to New Bethlehem.
At one point he will be reunited with June and Holly.
Nick will go underground because his cover is blown. He will become fully involved with Mayday.
Nick and June will painfully make the choice together to send Holly to live with Mayday people in Canada, and have a heartbreaking goodbye. She will call Nick 'dada' or 'papa' and everyone will cry.
There will be no note of finality in his and June's relationship and we won't know if they're together or not, but there will be enough evidence to support plenty of headcanons of them being together.
Rose:
She will temporarily move back in with her parents before returning to Nick's, under the guise of reconciliation but in actuality it will be to keep an eye on him, possibly as directed by Commander Mackenzie and/or her father.
She'll spy on Nick, eventually figuring out what he's up to with Tuello. She'll hold onto that information as she ponders what to do with it.
The baby will die, and she possibly will too after being denied proper medical care.
If she doesn't die, she'll go with Nick to New Bethlehem and cause problems, ultimately forcing Nick to go underground.
She'll continue to be a shallow character and we'll never know why Nick married her or how she's coping with her disability in Gilead.
Joseph:
He will help Nick. He will do it for Eleanor. Their relationship will be fractured and difficult, but both know they don't have any reliable allies in Gilead except for each other and so they will continue to work together.
He will continue to get more involved with the New Bethlehem idea, though he'll be more thoughtful about it as Nick punching him in the face knocked some sense into him.
He will have to deal with Naomi and then later Serena as the pressure mounts for him and his life will be in peril.
He will be taken out by the very Gilead believers he thought he was manipulating, perhaps in order to save Nick or June.
Janine:
The van will take her and the Martha to a safe house.
She'll become more involved in the Martha network and will work closely with Aunt Lydia.
She'll find out about Caleb's death and will be devastated.
Mark Tuello:
He'll continue to work with Nick. He'll be the only true emotional support that Nick has and Mark will appear sad at the difficulties of Nick's life.
He'll keep June safe like Nick demanded, but it won't be easy as June never makes anything easy.
He'll continue to keep Nick's involvement and sad feelings a secret from June, but he will be heavily conflicted about it. He may eventually end up telling June at least partial facts about what Nick is up to and/or feeling.
He'll make irresponsible choices where he means well but just doesn't understand reality.
One of those choices will put Nick in danger.
Luke:
He'll be in prison for some time, because Canada is evil now or something.
He'll be convicted of a serious crime, purely based on the fact that he stupidly took and kept the weapon of the attacker.
He'll get out of prison miraculously (perhaps because Mark Tuello has miracle powers and gets the gov't of Canada to do what he wants) and immediately search for June and Holly.
He will grieve the loss of Hannah but won't take her situation seriously enough and continues to show a lack of understanding Gilead.
He will show more of an effort at resistance than he ever has before.
Luke will reunite with June somehow, possibly in New Bethlehem. Nick will hang heavily between them, but any conversation, if it occurs, will be far too brief.
There will be no note of finality in his and June's marriage, but their parting will be hinted to be a very long one and the differences between them will be evident.
All of Canada will hate him for killing one of them and will be even more ridiculously evil than last season. Luke will have to hide because of it.
He'll get more involved in Canadian Mayday.
Moira:
She'll focus very heavily on getting Luke out of prison and will rail against the injustice against refugees who are suddenly and randomly being treated terribly b/c "Canada Evil" or something now.
She'll continue to focus on moving on and healing.
She'll get involved in a relationship with Lily and will works loosely with her Mayday group.
Moira will be neglected and lack proper screen time.
Rita:
She'll work with Moira in trying to get Luke out of prison.
She'll continue to focus on moving on and healing.
She'll take care of Holly a lot, but this will be off-screen.
Rita will be severely neglected and substantially lack proper screen time.
Aunt Lydia:
She'll finally become fully enmeshed in the resistance and will start to gather information on Gilead's elite.
She'll help Esther escape to safety on the behest of Janine who is completely done playing nice with anyone anymore.
She'll work closely with Joseph and Janine, and will have loose associations with Nick.
Esther:
She'll escape and be safe.
She'll either lose the pregnancy or get an abortion.
We'll see her in school or reading, looking peaceful in a way we haven't seen her before.
Serena:
She'll cry again and act like a victim.
She and June will briefly work together after they fail to reach Hawaii but will ultimately part amicably as they have different ideas of what they want to do to change things.
She'll go back to Gilead and work in New Bethlehem, trying to get it as close to her original ideas as possible. During this, she, Joseph, and Naomi will dance around each other in a game of cat and mouse. Serena will win.
She'll have some sort of "redemption", ignoring all the horrible things she's done.
She'll take up far too much screen time.
Others/Miscellaneous:
Hannah will be featured again and we'll get a grasp of her life as a child in Gilead, including her relationship with the Mackenzies, more time at wife school, and possible ties to Rose.
Commander Mackenzie will be extremely creepy and dangerous, and will be the driving force behind Nick ultimately defecting. He may be the reason that Rose returns home as another way of him getting at June, this time through Nick.
We'll meet Rose's father, Commander Wharton. He will also be extremely dangerous and will be very angry at Nick and June for hurting Rose. He will put them both in danger.
Naomi will be cutting and calculated, and will be a lot more dangerous than Joseph bargained for.
Charlotte will be cute and sweet, and will have a nice moment with Joseph that makes him reflect on life in Gilead.
We'll get flashbacks for June and Joseph. We won't get one for Nick, but we'll learn a little more about his early life in Gilead and possibly about his family.

If there’s racism, look among yourselves, not the casting team. Supernatural could only hire from Vancouver and the surrounding area. Far from racism, they likely employed every African-American actor around (sometimes many times over, as is the case with all of their extras). I really wish people would stop accusing Jared and Jensen or Kripke of being racist over this.

We are honoured to be able to present playwright, performer, and CBC radio host, Tetsuro Shigematsu who will share his story of creativity through the lens of this month’s global theme ‘acceptance’.

A former writer for This Hour Has 22 Minutes, Tetsuro’s theatrical solo-work Empire of the Son was named the best show of 2015 by the Vancouver Sun, and was described by theatre critic Colin Thomas describes it as, “one of the best shows ever to come out of Vancouver. Ever.” His other solo-work, 1 Hour Photo was named as a finalist for the 2019Governor General’s Award for Drama, and was the co-winner of the Holden Street Theatres’ Edinburgh Fringe Award, 2021. The Vancouver’s Georgia Straight declared him to be, “one of the city’s best artists.” In 2018, he earned his PhD in Arts-Based Research from the University of British Columbia, and now serves as Creative Director of the Research-based Theatre Lab.
As usual, we asked Tetsuro a handful of probing questions to give us a deeper glimpse into her life and relationship with creativity:
How do you define creativity and apply it in your life and career? What iridescent feathers are to peacocks, creativity is to humans, a reliable indicator of genetic fitness. It’s a costly signal to fake. In other words, I think talent is sexy. For me, something that I’ve begun to realize is that autobiographical solo theatre works can function as metaphysical pageant shows. Creativity is the ability to create work that is smarter than yourself. There’s two ways of doing this. Plumb the depths of your subconscious and work intuitively. Secondly, work with people who are smarter and more talented than you, and listen closely to what they have to say. The best work is often the result of collaboration. Thesis, antithesis, synthesis.
Where do you find your best creative inspiration or energy? In the bathroom, either while getting clean or getting dirty.
What’s one piece of creative advice or a tip you wish you’d known as a young person? If I had a chance to meet my younger self, I wouldn’t say anything, because it’s been a pretty meaningful journey so far. I’d like to listen though. I’d ask, “So? What do you think? Are you excited to become me? Or are you disappointed?”
Who (living or dead) would you most enjoy hearing speak at CreativeMornings? I once read that Shakira and Gabriel Garcia Marquez used to hang out while he was still alive. Even if they spoke of banal minutiae of everyday life, I’m sure it would have been fascinating.
What did you learn from your most memorable creative failure? When my marriage of 25 years came to an abrupt end, I realized that the health of my relationships is directly correlated to my willingness to have uncomfortable conversations.
What’s your one guilty creative indulgence? Scrolling endlessly through the FaceBook group Midjourney, a forum for AI-generated art work.
What fact about you would surprise people? I was a child preacher. Also, I fly a great deal. Whenever I experience severe turbulence on a flight, I never get nervous because I often think, “I’ve lived a good life. Things have never been better. So maybe it’s not a bad time to die.”
How does your life and career compare to what you envisioned for your future when you were a sixth grader? When I was in grade school, I saw myself wearing a top hat and tails, dancing like Fred Astaire. Picture an Asian boy with a bowl cut doing that. You would never know it to look at me today, but what I do is not far off.
How would you describe what you do in a single sentence to a stranger? I travel the world telling stories about my life.
If you could open a door and go anywhere, where would that be? I believe humankind will be around far longer than most people think. I would like to visit the final epoch of human existence, say the final 10 years.
What keeps you awake at night? Nothing keeps me awake at night. I am preternaturally worry-free. I asked my therapist friend if my condition could be pathologized. She said no. No state of mind that enables equanimity and independence could be considered a condition.
What myths about creativity would you like to set straight? To be a “real” artist, you need to be doing it full time. You can’t have a day job. My favourite example is the poet Wallace Stevens who sold insurance.
If you could do anything now, what would you do? Become an astronaut.
Where is your favourite place to escape? Going fast on my e-bike.
What was the best advice you were ever given? “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” - Maya Angelou
What books made a difference in your life and why? Something Like an Autobiography by Akira Kurosawa. He recommends to study all the art forms that make up a medium, rather than just the medium itself.
What practises, rituals, or habits contribute to your creative work? I have a walking treadmill beneath my standing desk. Nietzsche said there are no great thoughts that happen outside of walks. On a good day, I’ll walk over half a marathon.
If you had fifteen extra minutes each day, what would you do with them? Have sex, meditate, and workout all at once, but I’m not sure if that form of yoga exists?
What object would you put in a time capsule that best represents who you are today? My standing desk with my walking treadmill, multiple monitors, and multiple keyboards, and multiple computers is such an ugly monstrosity, it’s beautiful.
What is the one movie or book every creative must see/read? Impro by Keith Jonstone.

”Knives, Soft Beds Now in Life of Paroled Man - Free, After Fifteen Years, Lifer Tells Of His Experiences In B.C. Penitentiary,” Vancouver News-Herald. December 31, 1942. Page 3. --- Prisoner 2146 has not had a visitor at the B. C. Penitentiary for the past five years.
Inmates allowed one visit a month by immediate relatives. They must sit in a screened cell. Between them and their visitor, also in a screened cubicle, sits a guard who warns against what may or may not be said. ---
The last time Prisoner 2146 had a visitor, it was his sister. She had her two small children with her. The children wanted to know what all the bars were for and why their uncle was kept locked up behind them.
“That got me. I couldn't stand the sight of those youngsters looking at me through the bars. I told my sister not to come back any more."
Prisoner 2146 was a "lifer" in the B. C. Penitentiary - reprieved from the death sentence to life imprisonment. Next month will mark the fifteenth anniversary of his entrance behind prison walls.
But he won't be there to mark it off on the calendar.

Prisoner 2146 is free. He is with his sister and his niece and nephew and brother-in-law. He has been paroled.

"Prisoner 2146" is not his correct designation. His name, too, remains a secret. He has paid his penalty for murder, he has a chance to start all over again and make good. He intends "making good."
Wednesday afternoon I chat-ted with him for an hour or more.

He was paroled, with another life-term prisoner, on the day before Christmas. The first thing he did was rush to buy Christmas presents clothes, shoes, a hat, ties and shirts for himself and lots of toys for the children who had not seen him for so many years.
---
The other life-termer was sentenced with him, 15 years ago, for the murder of a fellow-rod-rider on a freight train.
What would you do what would you want to do first, if you had been right out of the world, behind prison bars and high walls, for 15 years?
Well, Prisoner 2146 wanted to sleep in in the mornings, most of all.
----
But he can't do it. He awakens at 6 every morning and he hasn't been able to sleep very well since his release.
"It's the soft bed," he told me. "You know, you roll over and sink down in that mattress and you think you're falling and you wake up with a start. And you hear unfamiliar sounds and you find you're not in a little cell - and you can't go to sleep again."
He's still quite amazed by his freedom. He was scarcely 19 when he was sentenced to death, was reprieved to the half-life of a penitentiary for 15 of the longest years any human being could experience.
He has served six months in solitary confinement, on bread and water for days at a time, in a tiny cell below ground level.
In 15 years he has seen more than 2100 prisoners come and go - he gave me the exact number instantly - has seen many of them die, many go insane. It was more than "stir crazy" they really went off their heads.
"One afternoon a prisoner walking by my cell (he named him) looked in at me and said: "The doc says I've only got five hours to live,' and that night he died. It was heart trouble. So-and-so, (he named another prisoner) went crazy and was taken to Essondale. But he wasn't crazy. He was just putting on an act. He came back after awhile."
Did you every try cutting meat and eating all your food with only a fork and spoon?
Prisoner 2146 has been doing that for 15 years and he's having an awful time trying to get used to knives, plates, saucers, cups, glasses, serviettes and other gadgets of an ordinary household table.
No penitentiary prisoner is allowed a knife - it could be a lethal weapon or a means of escape. He presents a metal tray at a long counter in the kitchen. It is filled with food, he is given, a metal mug, his spoon and fork, and he returns to his cell to eat behind locked doors. In the morning, after breakfast, he re-turns that tray to the kitchen to be cleansed.
He goes to his cell at 4:30 every afternoon, is allowed out for breakfast at 7:30 a.m.
Prisoner 2146 has never driven a car or truck he doesn't know how. He has seen. only one talking picture during his 15 years in prison. That was an educational film. Since his release he has been attending a lot of movies.
He is somewhat terrified of city traffic, and street cars, he admits, have him goggle-eyed.
"You dodge in front of one street car," he tells me. "and there's another one tearing at you from the other direction."
He has tried riding on the street cars, but he's a bit nervous about them. To begin with, when he gets out of the centre of the city he is lost. It is the only part of town he has learned to know.
He knows he is safe on a Number 1 car, because it just goes around in a circle. But several times he has taken a street car to go somewhere in the city, has become utterly confused and has had to return downtown to "get my bearings again."
The war and labor regulations have caused him some confusion, too.
His first thought on being released was to join the army. He wanted to go overseas.
But yesterday he took his "medical" and the doctor put him in "C" category but told him he probably wouldn't last long in that. What's the trouble? If you had lived for 15 years on concrete floors would you be surprised if the doctor told you you had flat feet! And the army doesn't want flat feet!
So he thought he would return to logging, which he knew in his youth. He found it had changed a lot since then, but he went to the Selective Service office to arrange it all.
He grinned inwardly when the clerk asked: "Previous occupation?"

I : can you state your name, age, and how long you’ve been living in valparaiso, for the record ?
R : he takes a seat across from the interviewer, his posture stiff and his eyes glued to the floor beneath their feet. it’s clear he’s not used to being in front of the camera ; rohan prefers things to be the other way around, and ideally, the subject is not human. sharks don’t usually expect conversation. “ rohan kaur, “ he replies after a beat, like he forgot his own name. “ i’m thirty-seven, and i’ve been here for about a year and a half. “
I: let’s start at the beginning : where were you born ? what was your family like ?
R : “ i was born in falmouth, england. “ he states, arms crossing over his chest as he sinks reluctantly back into the comfortable interview chair. “ my mom was a marine biologist. she did a lot of research on the deep ocean── she was determined to be one of the first scientists to document a giant squid on camera. “ her fascination with documenting animal behaviour might be where rohan got it from. he recalls the hours of home video footage, of hermit crabs and dogsharks among the massive kelp towers around england, narrated by himself and his older sister. the memory is too personal, and digs into his chest like claws, so he chooses not to share, swallowing it down with a listless shrug. “ she travelled for work a lot. when you’re a kid a five week expedition feels like forever, because that’s half of your summer vacation, and me and my sisters were always waiting for her to come home because we weren’t allowed to go into the kelp forests near our house without her. “ rohan’s the middle child── typical. somehow he got both little brother and older brother personality traits. yikes ! “ we were confined to the tidepools and water that went up to our waist. she would always come home with cool stories about seeing sparm whales or anglerfish, too, which i think made waiting for her feel a lot more difficult. “
he pauses, takes a deep breath. he’s not used to talking about himself like this. if he doesn’t have to think about his past, he tries not to. “ my mom tried to call as much as she could, but with her being so busy, my dad took care of us, mostly, with some help from our aunts. he was an insurance salesman, so he was willing to let her have her career to stay back. i’m pretty sure he never really got the appeal of the ocean, but he loved my mom so he supported her in whatever she did. he retired last year, i think, “ rohan doesn’t speak to his father much. he remembers to call, at most, once a month, and has a nasty habit of just letting it ring through whenever the caller ID clearly displays ‘ dad. ‘ his younger sister doesn’t talk to him anymore for that reason. she feels abandoned ; or he assumes she feels abandoned, since he hasn’t spoken to her since her phone call after the funeral he never attended. “ he’d bring us down to the beach every morning so we could try and spot the porpoises in the channel. “ it’s a habit rohan still carries. “ we never did, but we would always claim we did to try and make each other jealous. “
I : what kind of kid were you ? what was your childhood like ?
R : “ me ? “ he looks caught off guard by the question. admittedly, rohan doesn’t like talking about himself– he’d much prefer reminiscing about his family home. he has to think about it for a minute. “ quiet. “ yet again, he shrugs, “ i didn’t── i don’t── have a lot to say. i liked books. adventure stories, mostly. a lot of patrick o'brien and anything i could get my hands on at the library or whatever i could convince my parents to buy me when i went to the bookstore. i cried reading moby dick because i was so mad that ahab wanted to kill the whale. “ his mom used to say that rohan’s heart was about as fragile as a jellyfish, but that was a long time ago. naivety and blind faith in the goodness of the world and her beauty had dominated his perspective for years, but he’s been ( harshly ) brought back to reality since. another pause. “ that’s embarrassing to admit on the record. “ he forces out a sarcastic snicker as if to disappate his own awkwardness.
I : what was the most defining moment of your ife ? how has it impacted you personally ?
R : he takes another long pause after this question, his gaze downcast as he drags his tattered sweater sleeves over his hands. this is exactly what he was afraid of being asked, and so rohan starts fidgeting in his seat immediately. “ i was doing research with the university of british columbia, about the kelp forests. it was so unimportant i actually forget what exactly we were looking for, but it was the same doctor i did my dissertation with and i was hoping maybe it would land me a position teaching there. up until that point i had been moving around, acting mostly as an assistant on other research teams. “ his dry tone has been soft the entire interview, but now it’s quiet enough it could barely be heard. it’s possible if he wasn’t mic’d, the cameras wouldn’t have picked up his answer at all. “ i spent every summer back home. every summer. even if it was just a week. it was one of the promises’ we made when all three of us moved out. “
( climate change mention tw ) his older sister had gone on to follow in their mother’s footsteps, working alongside her in marine biology, where rohan had turned his attention towards chemical oceanography. he didn’t just want to document what animals were doing, he wanted to save the oceans themselves ; help be a part of the scientific solution that were working on reversing the damage being done to the ecosystems, weather patterns, ph levels. in doing so he became completely unattached from the nature that he loved so much. although he was on boats collecting data, rohan was rarely in the water anymore── half his time was spent in labs or conference rooms. he was always good with numbers, but now that skill was starting to launch him towards stardom within the ocean science community, but success always comes at a price.
( family death tw ) “ i thought it was one of those things i couldn’t miss out on because it was going to help my career. everyone understood. “ his gaze drifts upwards as he sinks further down in the chair. rohan presses his tongue against the inside of his cheek, as if trying to remind himself that there are other people in the room ; he needs to share the story factually, without letting the emotion seep into his tone. “ there was a boating accident. we were out on the victoria bay for a few days so i didn’t find out immediately… when i got back to shore, i had a bunch of missed calls from my dad. it was some freak accident, you know– the other guy had a stroke. it wasn’t his fault. he crashed into them and his boat was so much bigger there was no shot. wrong place, wrong time kind of thing. “ despite the fact rohan tells himself that every day, he can’t shake the feeling that it’s somehow his fault instead. he was supposed to be there, on that boat with them, and he wasn’t. it’s his own form of survivors guilt.
( family death tw ) he didn’t go to the funeral. he hasn’t been home since, and that was 5 years ago. “ i think it really messed us all up. my dad was always the practical one. not really touchy feely with us. i don’t know if he knew how to handle it. “ he doesn’t want to talk about how it impacted him, because it did– heavily. the news sent his entire life topsy turvy. he had people he cared about, but none of them were quite as important to him as his family, and rohan didn’t even get the chance to say goodbye.
( family death tw, grief tw ) instead of facing his grief head on, he ran from it. “ i bought my boat, the odysseus, off some bloke. i spent a while fixing it up. “ he picks again at his clothes, “ i got really claustrophobic by the idea of going back into the lab. there was this big, wide ocean, that was so wild and amazing and hard to understand and i was spending all my time looking at statistics and formulas and making powerpoint presentations and feeding egos. “ that work is important too, but his world view had shifted. rohan didn’t want to be a part of that anymore. why should he care that he had a piece of paper that claimed he was an expert in something he will never possibly be able to understand, when two of the most important people in his life were gone, and he didn't even get to say goodbye ? “ i didn’t want to confine myself to an office for the rest of my life, not when there was so much out there that i could see instead. “
I : obviously, that leads into the next question : what made you choose the field of study you did ? what is your job ?
R : “ i shifted my priorities around. i got back into the water, this time with a camera. i always knew that there was this complex world under the ocean and i had experienced it more times than i could count, but other people hadn’t. “ this is a topic that’s much easier for him to talk about, and it becomes obvious in the way that he relaxes, sitting up again in the chair. “ my sister’s whole thing was trying to connect people back to the ocean. she worked a lot with kids. she didn’t want all the prestige that i did, didn’t want to be a hero. she thought the proper way to save the ocean was by teaching people about it, and very suddenly, she wasn’t going to be around to do that anymore. i thought maybe i could do it instead. i had been free diving since i was a kid and i knew my way around the scientific community. i’m not nearly as good with kids as she was, but i owed it to her to try. “ it’s rohan’s own form of repentance, though it doesn’t seem to ease his guilt. “ people are too scared to get in the water though. it takes a lot of skill, and not everyone can be trusted around animals like sharks. i wanted to bring it to them, if i could. guess that’s where the camera comes in. if i could show people that it wasn’t just fish down there, and that even the fish have personalities and routines, then maybe people would be more inclined to pay attention. i applied for grants and contracts, got on tiktok and youtube, worked with some conservation groups down the west coast until i ended up here. “
I : what’re you doing in valparaiso ? do you plan on staying ?
R : “ there’s a conservation group here called oceana that give me pretty consistent contracts. “ he admits, “ and i’ve made a lot of contacts at the aquarium. there’s so much happening off the shore valpo is on the migration route for all kinds of sharks and whales and turtles, and has beautiful coral reefs and sea mounts if you move out of the bay. “ it doesn’t hurt that the city is about as far away from falmouth as rohan can get. as for staying… “ freelance work kind of allows me to work wherever i want. i’ve been invited to work on a few teams in different places since, but… i like valpo, i guess. it’s fine, for now. “
quickfire facts
he has a small tabby cat that he adopted as a stray when he first docked in chile and that's his closest companion. talks to it all day long even though it can't answer back. it doesn’t have a name because he finds that everybody seems to want to call her something different— he just refers to her as “boat cat” ( or sometimes just cat )
he is vegan ! the environment and climate change and the impact of humans on nature is very important to him, and so he tried to negate his own carbon footprint in however many ways he can. this includes going vegan as often as he can ( though if there's no vegan options he's not the kind of person to complain or fuss about it. )
as i mentioned above he does have like a youtube channel where he posts a lot of the amateur footage he takes of wildlife he's encountered over the years but he’s in no way like, an influencer. he doesn’t show his face in the videos or narrate them much ( it’s usually subtitles explaining any interesting behaviour. )
does a lot of talks and sits on a lot of panels, mostly from the safety of his own bedroom though... hello zoom !

the death of his mom & his sister did impact him pretty heavily, especially because of the guilt he feels for having not gone home to visit them that summer. he's pretty isolated because of this; it freaks him out to be close to people because he doesn't know if they could just up and die in an accident ( he worries a lot about stuff like that, but only about other people, not himself. ) he's also a workaholic because of this, and has thrown himself into the conservation work he does to avoid having to deal w/ it.
adrenaline junky 100%. nobody who swims with sharks willingly isn't. he gets nervous about other people doing scary or dangerous things, though, because he is still overtly aware of their mortality !
amateur art enthusiast. he doesn’t know very much but he’s definitely thrown himself more into the cultural/philosophical side of humanity as a way to avoid his own grief teehee!
he travels a lot for work when he gets contracts to do camera work on documentaries or work with scientists to try and get footage of animals that are hard to capture on tape. he'll disappear without saying much for like 2 weeks and then come back from some expedition like he's been there the whole time. practically a ghost out here
film nerd ! when you're someone who doesn't leave your apartment except to go look at the ocean what else do you have to do except consume content. that also helps with the videography stuff that he does i think. ~ cinema ~
he can very shittily play guitar. mainly it’s just one of those things he has on the boat for the hours that he’s sitting waiting for something to happen LMAO.
little bit of a dick, but he doesn’t always do it on purpose. sometimes, yes, especially if someone is irritating him he will bite back, but a lot of the times it comes from him either being awkward and blunt, or it’s a defense mechanism to keep people from getting too close to him. he’s just not great with people.
despite that though he does, at the very least, have a pretty decent sense of humour. it's very dry and sarcastic, but he knows how to poke fun of himself.

wanted connections
PAST ONE NIGHT-STAND ADJACENT PLOTS: i just think between the traveling and the valparaíso-ing there’s probably some room for chance encounters. he’s pretty and got some ? weird guy ? rizz ?? (maybe?? i dont get to be the one who decides that). i don’t have a lot of specific ideas i think this something that would really depend on the likelihood of the characters coming into contact with each other but the only thing is that i think he’s very blunt & honest and would be pretty up front about not wanting anything to come from it if it was post-accident. it could be something that happened recently since he got to valpo or it could be something from when he was traveling down the coast, it could have gone poorly it could have gone well, maybe something almost happened but for whatever reason it didn’t? either way nowadays he’d be incredibly awkward probably around that muse and i think it would be FUNNY.
COLLEAGUES/SCIENTIFIC OR ACADEMIC PEERS : i think tbh this doesn’t have to specifically relate to the area of work that he’s in, and they don't have to be working together at all either for them to know each other via past projects or something. it would be funny to see him consulting with other people in other career fields on different things, but also people who’s brains he could pick i guess would also be it. smart people things ig. alternatively it could also be students who are studying in a field that's adjacent to him.
RESEARCH PARTNER : as another adjacent plot to the above one, if there’s a character that’s specifically into marine biology or conservation or would have a more specific project they could be working on that he is also working on, i think it would be really funny if there was someone that rohan got paired up with on a grant or something and he does not want to have to work with them. he probably doesn’t thrive with teamwork, especially nowadays, so it would be very funny to see him trying to work on a project with someone where he has to give up some semblance of control about it.
FELLOW VOLUNTEERS : one of the things rohan does through his job is work w/ a lot of conservation groups so i think he does spend some extra time working with those groups like volunteer wise, like on the boards or even just doing grunt work (continuing on his family’s work or whatever blah blah blah) anyway if there are characters who also have an interest who would volunteer in a similar sort of way then i could see him being a bit more likely to open up or befriend them??? less grouchy upon meeting LMAOOO an easier friendship.
EX-ADJACENT PLOT : this isn’t really like a huge part of his backstory but like it makes sense that at the time of the accident he would have had a long term partner at some point??? like maybe they weren’t anything really that serious bc they were both really focused on their respective careers but they were together for a while in that easy going capacity, but then for whatever reason they break up. (it could be because of the accident and him deciding he doesn’t want to lose more people like that blah blah blah but it could have happened before that too depending on if there’s a reason the other muse would have!)

PIG KILLER - Review
DISTRIBUTOR: Breaking Glass Pictures

REVIEW: Chad Ferrin’s film can be hit or miss. For me, I found PIG KILLER a big miss.
It’s not the cast, which feels like the line-up for a genre convention, but some of the production values and the script.
I’m not sure if the script is fully to blame or if some of it might also be the directing. This is a fictionalized account of true events and it feels like some of the time it's venturing into dark comedy. At its best it feels awkward and at its worst uncomfortable. I didn’t find anything in the least bit funny, or remotely so. There are many off color comments, and this is a serial killer film so I get it. However, they attempt to backpedal on some of their remarks, for example about the Asian remarks, which feels kind of compounded by Bai Ling’s cliched and outdated performance. Then there are the scenes between Ginger Lynn and Jake Busey. Again, I get it but there is just something about the execution that feels like sophomoric exploitation.
In terms of the production values, the thing that annoyed me the most was the excessive use of Gerard McMahon’s songs. There are 22 songs by him in the film, plus there is a line in the film about him playing Piggy’s Powwow. As mayhem is breaking out on the farm McMahon and his band are performing. Some of the songs are poorly edited into the film and a few times simply cut off. It’s not that I don’t like his music, it just feels like a square peg shoved into a round hole here and does not feel to fit the 2002 period of the story. But hey, who knows what they were listening to in Canada back then.
I get putting a scene in the credits or at the end of the credits to give the audience a bit extra. However, there is a five minute scene at the end of the credits that should have been edited into the main body of the narrative. It feels like an important scene to the story and not something I would consider a bonus scene. It’s the only time actor James Russo shows up in the film. During most of the scene Busey is eating, scraping a disposal plate with a plastic fork that is maddening and I can’t see what purpose it serves to the scene.
PIG KILLER is one of filmmaker Chad Ferrin’s s;pectacular train wrecks. There are numerous elements that make this an off-putting viewing experience, but like a glorious traffic accident we can’t help but slow down and stare in horror. As a die-hard horror/gore fan there was nothing likable for me here. From the language to the gore and nudity, this is an adult film. You’ve been warned.

This is the opposite feeling of what I get every time I see a Hollywood Movie Blockbuster set in Washington DC. They never film in DC for real, which I don’t blame them for as it’s complicated, expensive and inconvenient.
They usually shoot in Vancouver Canada, or Baltimore for some odd reason. Neither of these cities particularly look like DC.
So you have some stock footage establishing shot of the Washington Monument or the The White House, then smash cut to someone making a phone call at a Pacific Bell pay phone (that one is in Die Hard 2). Or you get a bad green screen shot of the view out of an impossible hotel room - like the one where Denzel Washington is looking down on the White House. For this hotel to exist, it would have to be hovering in mid air above the city, which has quite strict building codes to preserve the skyline.
DC’s best public transit feature is the Metro. A 1970s era project with iconic, instantly recognizable design. If you were a tourist in in DC and took a single train ride, you’d recognize it immediately. You cannot fake being in the metro in LA’s brand new train system. But they do anyway.
This shit is like seeing a bunch of WWII generals fighting storm troopers in the Death Star. It just doesn’t make any sense. And it annoys the shit out of me.
These are the chapter house stairs in Wells Cathedral. Someday I’d love to do a supercut of every time these show up on screen. Apparently a lot of filmmakers think they’re perfect for their hero to race up or down while escaping the castle, or to have a swordfight on. They’ve appeared in every other Robin Hood movie or TV series, and anything else where they want a medieval castle feel and some derring-do.
I first noticed them in 1984, when Robin of Sherwood ran up them, took a sharp right through a doorway, and met Maid Marion for the first time. I saw them most recently in Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves - and sat up and went “Aww!”, because they might be 700 years old, but they’re also old friends by this point.
