❤️Valentine - Charles Leclerc
'It don't matter be combative or be sweet cherry pie, it don't matter just as long as I get all you tonight'
<word count - 1317>
Valentines day. The one day a year that all couples were supposed to get along, and act like they were totally, unbelievably, undeniably in love. Throwing around the balloons, teddy bears and the chocolate eclairs around like they meant nothing, because they didn't.
What really meant something was the real love. The real love that proper couples shared on a day to day basis. That was why Valentines day wasn't really for you and Charles. You loved each other whether it was the 14th of February or not.
You didn't need one specified day a year to love each other with your heart and soul. Therefore, neither of you were really a fan of Valentines. You both felt it was a cheap shot at what love was supposed to be. It wasn't all chocolates and roses, it wasn't all hearts and cupid's arrows.
But just because it wasn't that, didn't mean it wasn't a wonderful thing that was meant to be cherished. You didn't need cards with acrostic poems or sonnets to know that you loved each other, so you never really bothered with Valentines.
This year, though, you had suggested that the two of you go out for dinner. It wasn't for any special reason, you just wanted to since you hadn't been out for dinner together in a little while. Plus, restaurants tended to be a lot nicer on Valentines Day, so it was an added incentive.
Charles had agreed without a second thought, thinking it would be nine to go out for dinner with you. To be honest, he didn't really care where you were, as long as he got to spend time with you. He could take you out, or you could kill some time, stay home.
As long as you were together, he didn't care in the slightest. You had just finished putting your heels on, ready to go for your dinner reservation at seven. Both of you had agreed to get all dressed up, just for the novelty of it.
"Ready to go?" you asked, walking out of your bedroom as you shrugged your coat onto your shoulders. As per usual, Charles was looking handsome as ever in his suit, a single red rose in his hand. "That for me or your side chick?" you laughed.
"Only for you, mon amour. Although, it was a tough choice," he quipped back, tucking the rose behind your ear. "And you look absolutely breathtaking," he complimented, looking you up and down. Of course, he always thought you were the prettiest thing to ever set foot on the earth, but he'd be lying if he said he didn't like it when you put in some extra effort.
Looking at you, dinner wasn't looking so appealing right now. He wanted to skip straight to the dessert.
"And you're looking rather dapper, my love," you smiled, tugging him in by his lapels for a quick kiss before starting to walk towards your front door. That was enough for him to definitely rule going to dinner as an option for tonight.
There were others on the table, well, you were the only option on the table. It didn't have to be a table, it could've been anywhere in the house, but that wasn't the point. He wanted you, and he wanted you now. "You coming?" you asked, turning to look at him as he was rooted to the spot.
Within a split second, he has rushed up to you and pinned you against the door with his body. "No, I don't think I want to," he smirked, crashing his lips down onto yours. It was easy to feel how much he wanted to keep you at home, but you still wanted to go to dinner.
"Charles, hey, come on," you said, pulling away from the kiss. The devilish smirk that was dancing on his lips told you that you were in for it, but that had never necessarily been a bad thing.
"What?" he said innocently, as if he were completely oblivious as to where you were supposed to be going.
"Love, I want dinner, I'm hungry," you told him, batting your eyelashes at him.
"Why would I need dinner when I've got a twelve course banquet standing right in front of me?" he asked as if it were a serious question. He couldn't resist kissing you again, pushing your body harder against the door with his own.
"Please, mon amour," he whined with a pout, staring deep into your eyes. They could make you melt into a puddle of nothing on the floor with a single glance, and he was very hard to resist. He'd normally do whatever you asked of him, and the same went for you, but not tonight.
"Darling come on, let's go," you dismissed, pushing him away with a gentle nudge, before slipping out of the door.
"Do I have to get on me knees and beg you to forget about dinner? Because I will," he said, leaning against the doorframe as you walked down the corridor of your apartment complex. His statement had taken you off guard, if you were being honest.
"Don't do that, let's go," you repeated, looking at him with your arms crossed in defiance.
"I know that face. You want to cave in, but you're just doing this to prove a point. You don't have to prove anything to me, my love. Now, come back here and let me show you how much I love you," he stated, extending his hand out to you.
For a moment, you just looked at him. You hated how well he knew you, but it also made you squirm slightly. He knew he'd get you at some point in the night, but he was growing more and more impatient as the time went by.
"How much you love me, huh?" you said with a cocky smirk, trying to hide your crumbling resolve.
"Yeah, get your ass over here and I'll show you," he reiterated with a charming wink.
You took one small step towards him, and that was enough for him to grab your arm and tug you back into the apartment. "See? That wasn't so hard, was it? You can be a good girl when you want to," he snickered.
"Charles, really?" you groaned, trying to bite back an embarrassed giggle as your cheeks turned red. He wrapped his arms around your waist and pulled you as close to him as he could before slowly walking you through the apartment and towards your bedroom.
"What, mon amour?" he grinned, softly kissing you. He loved how easy it was to make you blush, and it was honestly his favourite pastime. You were nearly red as the rose tucked behind your ear as you spoke.
"You're a dick sometimes," you rolled your eyes at him.
"But you love me," he stated, since it was a fact. Yes, you loved him, even when he tried to push your buttons. If anything, that made you love him more.
"It's a good job I do," you confirmed as your back came into contact with your bedroom door.
"And I fall more in love every day, my Valentine," he said, taking one hand off you to open the door and gently nudge you inside. "Now how about less talking and more showing?" he asked, but the question was fully rhetorical.
Closing the door behind him, Charles pushed you down onto the bed and loomed over you. "More showing sounds like a great idea," you agreed, pulling him in by his lapels again to kiss him.
"Good girl," he praised, before getting lost in the kiss. Valentines was all about expressing your love, and the two of you certainly didn't need dinner for that. Not when you had each other.
A/N - Happy valentines day my loves! Whether you're spending today with a special someone or not, I hope you've had a wonderful day and love you loads! I'm sat here, with a nice glass of rhubarb and raspberry tonic, enjoying a cozy night in with a box of chocolates my dad bought for me, what about you?
This is based off of Valentine by 5SOS, and it's such a bop. Keep a look out for Lando's Valentines Special, which is all done and ready to go in an hour or two!

Kiss in the Kitchen
Your lover being a disaster in the kitchen but still trying to help you with cooking dinner, cutting the ingredients and always making sure they’re doing it the way you want it. You just smiling and reassuring your lover that they’re doing a great job.
part of my Valentine's Day prompts requested by @tkachvkmatthew | word count: 0.9k | warnings: none!
“Hey, babe, can I ask for your help?”
You look away from the television, the movie you had seen a million times quickly forgotten. You turn towards the sound of your boyfriend’s voice, spying Matthew in the doorway to the kitchen.
“Of course. What’s up?” you ask, turning your body fully towards him, your legs tucking underneath you on the couch.
“I know that you’re like, really good at making desserts,” he begins, his hand lifting to awkwardly scratch at the back of his neck. “I was wondering if you could teach me?”
“Are you sure that’s a good idea?” you tease. The memory of Matthew helping you with holiday cookies flashes through your mind, the first batch having to go immediately in the trash because he misread the measurement of milk, adding too much into the batter.
“Maybe not,” he chuckles, the same memory clearly appearing in his mind. “But it’s Taryn’s birthday coming up soon and I wanted to make her a cake or something.”
Your heart softens at his words. There was the Matthew you fell in love with; sweet, loving, and oh so generous to those he loved. You lift yourself off the cushions and walk over to him, looping your arms around his waist.
“I would be honored to teach you the ways of cake,” you say, grinning up at him. Matthew returns your smile, pulling you into a quick hug and pressing a kiss to the top of your head. When the two of you separate, you take a hold of his hand and pull him into the kitchen. “Come on, let’s do this.”
“Wait. Now?”
“No time like the present, baby,” you quip. “Besides, this can be a trial run. Don’t want to show up to your sister’s party with a disaster.”
“Fair point.”
You grab the thick three ringed binder that you had filled with all the recipes you enjoyed over the years. Flipping through the pages, you land on a vintage recipe for ‘Wacky Cake.’ You smile as you read through the ingredients and instructions. This would be perfect for Matthew; simple, easy, and a lot of fun.
Matthew just stands back and watches you as you get out the cake pan, measuring cups, and ingredients, laying them out on the island. After everything was gathered, you step back, hopping up to sit on the opposite counter as your eyes jump to Matthew.
“Alright Matty, there you go,” you say, gesturing to the filled countertop. You watch as the confusion washes over Matthew’s face which causes a laugh to fall from your mouth. “I’m not going to do it for you. This is hands-on-learning babe.”
Matthew chuckles as he steps up to the counter. You watch his eyebrows furrow as he reads through the instructions.
“Really? That’s how you make it?” he asks, eyes darting back up to you.
“Yep. Trust me, I’ve made it before,” you say, leaning your head against the cabinets.
Your eyes follow Matthew’s movements as he dumps the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt directly into the cake pan before grabbing a fork to mix them together. With a glance back at the recipe, he grabs a spoon and digs three divots into the dry ingredients. You notice that he takes care to double check the measurements for the oil, vinegar, and vanilla, the holiday mishap no doubt fresh in his mind. He walks towards your perch by the sink with a one cup measuring cup in his hand.
“This has got to be the strangest way of making cake I’ve ever seen.”
“Well, it is called Wacky Cake for a reason. Recipe is from the Great Depression babe so they didn’t have easy access to milk and eggs and such.”
“Well, I’m a professional hockey player, I think I can splurge,” he quips, filling up the measuring cup.
“Oh, I’m sorry Mr. Hotshot Hockey Player,” you tease as he carefully walks back towards the cake pan. “I chose it because it’s easy. Plus, I’m sure Taryn will not be looking up the ingredient list when she takes a bite. She’ll probably be impressed that you brought something that isn’t store-bought.”
“Hey! But you’re right,” Matthew replies, dumping the water into the cake pan before mixing all the ingredients together.
You slide off the counter, looking to make sure that the batter was smooth and free of clumps before you take it from Matthew and slide it into the pre-heated oven. You close the door and press the timer.
“Now, we wait,” you declare.
While the cake bakes, you and Matthew put away the ingredients and wash the dishes in the sink. The timer buzzes and you teach Matthew the toothpick trick – place a toothpick in the center of the cake and it comes out clean, your cake is fully cooked. His passes the test and you remove it from the oven.
After letting it cool, you grab some leftover frosting and help him spread it onto the cake. He insists on adding sprinkles which you let him do before you are each taking a plate and cutting out a small slice.
You watch as Matthew brings the chocolate cake up to his mouth, taking a bite. You watch his face morph from trepidation to absolute elation at the taste, a smile appearing on yours in response.
“Wow!” he exclaims, quickly taking another bite. “This is delicious!”
“Congrats, baby,” you laugh. “You are now a cake master.”
“Couldn’t have done it without you,” he says, leaning down to press your lips against his. You smile into the kiss, deepening it immediately, loving the taste of the lingering chocolate on his tongue.

dream valentine's day
[another drabble for the satosho discord server valentine day prompt: soft touches] also posted on ao3
Tragedy strikes when Satoru sends the wrong screenshot to the wrong person.
“Hey, Gojo. Quick question,” Shoko asks as she enters the staff room, staring down at her phone. “This list you sent me.”
“List?” Satoru’s head snaps up from scrolling through his own phone, like a dog who’s just seen a cat or a squirrel pass by. “What list?”
There’s panic in his eyes as his brain runs a mile a minute, helpfully reminding him about a list that he was supposed to send to Nanami and may or may not have sent to someone else instead. His fears are confirmed when Shoko turns her phone to him and Satoru sees the aforementioned list staring back at him.
“...That wasn’t supposed to be sent to you.”
“Oh? Who were you going to send this…” Shoko turns her phone back to her line of sight and reads the words, “... ’dream valentine’s day ’ list?”
“...Nanami.”
“You were gonna send this ‘dream valentine’s day’ list to Nanami,” Shoko deadpans but Satoru could see the mirth in her eyes. She’s laughing at him. “You should’ve told me you already have plans with him. And to think I even switched shifts so I can clock out early.”
“Oh, shut up. You know those plans are with you,” Satoru says, throwing one of the cushions at her which a snickering Shoko deftly caught before sitting beside him. “I was just asking for his input.”
“Why? I think it’s a pretty solid list already.”
“Yeah?”
“Mhmm,” Shoko hums, lifting her legs to rest on his lap. “I mean, the first on the agenda alone. ‘Make out for approximately seven hours'? Romantic.”
“That’s me. Mr. Romance.” Satoru shrugs, deciding to just ride along Shoko’s teasing as he does.
“Second on the agenda, ‘something with flowers or plants or art’. I get the flowers or plants part, but what’s with the art thing?”
“Thought we’d try something different this year. Bring in a little culture in the mix.”
“Oh? What do you have in mind?” At the face Satoru makes at her, Shoko just grins and needles at him. “C’mon. Secret’s out anyway. Tell me already so I can look forward to it more.”
“It was supposed to be a surprise,” Satoru mutters, pouting.
“Yeah, well, you already messed that one up when you wrong sent to me, buddy.” She pats his arm consolingly and keeps it there. “C’mon. I’m pretty easy to please. I’ll probably still be surprised. I promise.”
Satoru sighs, easily giving in to her as he always does. God. The power this woman holds over him. If she ever realizes she’s got him wrapped around her pinky, the world as they know it is doomed—not like she isn’t aware of it anyway, sharp as she is.
“The Van Gogh Alive exhibit.”
“The one in Shinagawa? I’ve always wanted to go.”
“I know,” he says, reaching over to tuck an errant lock of hair behind her ear before his hand decided to rest on her nape. “Got us tickets the day you mentioned it.”
“Mmm,” Shoko hums, pleased and trying in vain to hide the smile threatening to break out by pressing her lips together. “And then dinner.”
“Yeah, ‘cause we’ll be hungry after all that walking and art appreciating.”
“Not to mention the approximately seven hours of making out prior to that. Smart.”
“I do have my moments.”
“Tiramisu for dessert?”
Satoru shrugs. “I like sweets and you don’t. Gotta find a middle ground, you know? Made a reservation at that French patisserie we said we’d try ages ago.”
“A good a time as any, huh?” Shoko looks back at her phone and reads the last item on the list. “‘Hand stuff’? What, like holding hands—”
“Yes, naturally. Obviously. Definitely a total must!”
“—or… hand stuff ?” Shoko finishes with a suggestive look.
“Or…?” Satoru narrows his eyes at her as if in confusion before realization hits him at Shoko’s look. “Oh. Oh! I actually really only meant the first one, but yes! I am also definitely not opposed to the other hand stuff part.”
“Sounds like a solid dream valentine’s day then.”
“Pick you up at five?”
“Took half of the day off. If you don’t have anything else on your plate today you can pick me up after lunch break,” Shoko says standing up from her perch next to him and starting for the door, already knowing the rest of his day is free. “Gotta get a start on the approximately seven hours of making out if we want to make it to the rest of our reservations after all.”
Shoko exits with a smirk and a wink over her shoulder, leaving Satoru blushing to the tips of his ears and practically vibrating in anticipation.

((I believe this is my first drabble thing for you. The way this works is that you are free to do with it as you please. Post it, hoard it, reply to it, or post as is. You can consider it a canon interaction between our muses or not. Whatever you wanna do with it is up to you! I hope you like it! 8D Of course, it’s the Akkun-verse))
-
The convenient thing about having similar majors was that some of their classes aligned. Who didn’t like having a guaranteed friend in a given class?
Haru Miura was a studious individual who was always prompt, usually getting to class early to pick out the best seat. She’d sent a message to Akkun earlier that day asking him to come to class early if possible because she had something to give him.
It shouldn’t be a surprise as to what she could possibly give him on this day. She’d have to question their friendship if he honestly didn’t think that Haru would’ve prepared a gift for him on Valentine’s day.
Every single year Haru would go through the effort of handmaking chocolate desserts to distribute to people, and of course Akkun was going to be one of the recipients.
Admittedly, she put a bit more effort into the gift for him compared to some others, and that was due in part of them such great friends. Also, it was a matter of how much sweets Byakuran could consume in a single sitting. The amount of chocolates she was gifting to others just wouldn’t feel enough to give him.
“Oh Akkun, you’re here!” Haru waves at him from her seat, motioning for him to come over quick. When he settles down in the seat next to him, she slides over an insulated box to him. Inside was a whole chocolate cake roll (and a fork, of course).
“Happy Valentine’s day! Akkun gets a whole cake roll because it just feels fitting considering how much cake we both know you’re able to consume in a single sitting.” To a regular person, that was a number of servings sitting in the box, but for the both of them? That’s a single serving of cake.
The cake was chocolate and so was the whipped cream filling on the inside. Haru dusted the top with powdered sugar to add at least another color to the dessert.
Haru had kept the cake in the fridge up until she had to leave for class and she’d carefully transported onto campus. She wasn’t concerned that he couldn’t finish it all, but it would taste the best if he ate it all soon.
Though a lot of people took the easy way out and bought chocolates to hand out to people, Haru was the diligent sort who preferred to make things herself. When she was very young, she settled for melting chocolate and pouring them into new molds. It was something!
As she grew older, she started to do more with the treats she gave out to people as thanks for being so kind to her throughout the year. It was a show of her appreciation for all of her friends and family. What better way to convey that than to make the treats yourself?
“Haru made the roll cake herself, so it’s not going to be as good at the professionally made roll cakes,” so don’t go expecting the quality that they get on Appreciation Day. “Haru made the cake as thanks for being Haru’s great friend, Akkun. Haru hopes that you like it, even if it’s not up to par to what we normally get.”
“Now, you can eat cake throughout class. Back here, the professor shouldn’t pay too much attention to you.” Haru cracks a small joke.
How to con your friend into coming into class and staying there: have cake.
( Baking a cake for Byakuran? An entire cake, at that? Such a heroic feat would not go unnoticed nor unrewarded. Henceforth Byakuran would willingly lay down his life for his beloved friend Haru. )
( Cut to Byakuran digging into a whole roll cake in the back of the lecture hall with absolutely zero shame. The greatest honour he could bestow upon Haru was to then, of course, save her a slice. )

i’ve been thinking about spending valentines day with josh and how sweet and cute he would be. trying to make sure everything is perfect for you. he would take you out to your favorite stores and restaurants and spoil you all day long.
Thinking about valentines with josh I
Okay so like I imagine waking up to just a shower of kisses. All over, face, neck, chest anywhere he can get to while you’re wrapped up under the covers. Then he’s made you breakfast, something you like but it’s quick and easy, some eggs and toast with some avocado, maybe some fruit and your tea or coffee just how you like it.
Then you get in the shower and get ready for the day, and maybe it’s a longer shower because he comes in and distracts you from what you have to do, which is absolutely okay, by all means josh run up my water bill. And as the two of you get ready after it’s just cutesy compliments back and forth, he loves how you put your makeup on, and you love how he chooses jeans that hug his butt just right.
And you spend all day going in and out of stores, book stores where you lose each other and then meet up somewhere in the middle, both hold stacks of books. Then to homegoods or tj maxx and you browse around, finding little trinkets for the home (josh seems like a guy who would like lemon shaped things to me, so I see him getting a lemon shaped soap dispenser for the kitchen sink). Stopping off at a little cafe for a quick lunch, then off to target and maybe the last stop is the grocery store, so you can pick up the ingredients to make a homemade dinner together. Maybe a lumpy and distorted well meaning heart shaped pizza? And then making homemade chocolate covered strawberries for dessert!
#my asks#anonnie#soft gvf thoughts#josh kiskza#greta van fleet#josh would hand feed you your strawberries too#and he’d ask you do the same for him#’it’s more intimate that way baby’

Zoot and Lips from the Muppet show for the Valentines headcannons? 🥺
They’re a sweet pair so yeah I’ll give them a shot!
Since they’re both fairly chill people I imagine neither are super hyped for valentines unlike Piggy - who’d probably want a big dinner plus dessert and a big diamond bracelet minimum. First thing that comes to mind with them is maybe them just sharing a quite moment together in the Mayhem bus or in the bands hangout room. I don’t particularly image the band to be huge fans of fine dinning, so if Lips and Zoot where to buy any food it’d probably just be take out: simple and easy and they both like it
As for how affectionate they are again I don’t picture the two to be huge fans of PDA in public, they’re not against it but they just don’t feel a need to, though on Valentine’s I can imagine them maybe exchanging a few more quick kisses at the studio before anyone notices. I can also imagine Zoot leaning his head on Lips’s shoulder while he sleeps, just as a sort of reminder that he’s there and such

I'LL NEVER BE A STRANGER AND I'LL NEVER BE ALONE.
so while you would have to waterboard the information out of him and if asked directly what his favourite holiday is, he'd absolutely say something like thanksgiving (which is nobody's favourite) or christmas (which is the easy answer). but the truthful answer? phillip j. coulson loves valentines day.
there is something about the way people are around this time of year; sure, it's obnoxious and nausea inducing, sure it can be horrifically lonely if you've got nobody around, and sure everybody seems to have an opinion about whether it constitutes a real holiday or not. yet he cannot help but love the dopey smiles. the silly love heart chocolates. the cards and flowers and big, romantic gestures. last year, he had made filet mignon with black truffles and paired it with a spectacular merlot, a rose gold tiffany bracelet as a slight indulgence. (he doesn't care for jewellry as a gift, it feels lazy and easy, but it had suited her.) and it...had gone to waste. a crisis with the u.n. claire had been on the phone with half the global world leaders, playing tennis tag for well into the wee hours, and by the time she'd made it back to the residency, it hadn't seemed the time to claw back a semblance of a night. they moved on. no big deal.
this year, however, when chris agrees to help him divert some attention and the billy joel tickets a friend at the d.o.j. offered him in exchange for phil's standing reservation at a restaurant in the city that nobody got reservations for, it had seemed a no brainer. there are still a few phone calls on the books, some loose-end tying to be done with the french, but her diary is blissfully empty past six p.m.
they have dinner at the hotel, which is fine and not really at all part of the plan on the whole, because it works as a good cover; chris invites sloan sabbith to sit down with them and it's nice, looks like a working thing rather than a double date. it's private, too. sloan is thoughtful and has good points to make on the revised tax plan; phil mostly switches off after dessert, though, because claire has her hand on his knee, caught up in conversation with chris.
anyway. they have dinner. chris and sloan leave but before phil and claire, do they head back up to her room for a quick costume change -- gone are the formal suit and skirt, shirt combo, replaced instead with some plain clothes, comfortable, a soft sweater and jeans and baseball caps. (a red sox one for her, because it reminds him of the last time they went to boston together.) they look like everyday new yorkers. nothing to think about if passed in the street.
they go out the service entrance and are thankfully ignored by most of everyone; his friend at madison square who works as the stage management let them up to the private box and meechum, scott and carys follow behind in civvies, too.
( and because he can't resist any longer, as they walk down the back halls of the building to get to the service elevators, looking for all the world just like a small group of lost tourists, just friends at concert, phil reaches out and takes her hand -- she seems to be preempting him a little, too, as if she had the same thought, because it's barely a reach before their hands meet. )
they make it to the box in time for billy joel to take the stage and wish everybody a happy valentines. i hope you're all having a great night. let's spend a little time together. phil wraps an arm around her and she kisses his cheek; after this, there are grand designs to head down to chinatown, where he knows they've cleared an arcade centre, and to sign off the night? a horse drawn carriage ride through the park, like she'd asked. it'll be incredibly late by the time they get back to the hotel, but he's made a promise that he intends to keep. so he'll stay up as late as she wants.
#the promise is to make her REDACTED fourteen times :///#halechief#V || FRIENDS. ROMANS. COUNTRYMEN. ( CAESAR! BRUTUS! )#WHICH HURTS AND IS DESIRED.#its a cute date!

Sunny With a Chance of Roti
I didn’t expect much for my quick travel to Pengelih. This is not my first time anyway.
We were curious about the food. All the while I survived with Subway and some ayam penyet for my meals during my visits to the Pengerang area. And I didn’t bother to ask my colleagues why the choices seemed limited at that time. I just thought, well, since we have always been strictly on business trips, we just need to consume what is familiar and what is consistent.
Then I announced to the team to block one day to eat at Pengelih. Someone insisted on doing it on Valentine's Day. Without thinking much about it, I just said OKAY and set it.
The ferry trip is scheduled to sail at 0850hrs from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal. Since we are going on a weekday, there is a certain calmness about the terminal which I liked. As usual, the check-in and boarding process is smooth. The sea journey is about 45 minutes, so I have enough time to think about my life in general. I was a bit stiff though –my body and spirit. I looked at my colleagues, and they seemed to be enjoying this more than I do. I told myself that I would take photos of cats when I reached there.
It was bright and sunny at the Tanjung Pengelih Ferry Terminal when the vessel came alongside. Everyone is all smiles and eager to start our day here. I walked behind and there seemed to be an added spring to their step as the team headed for immigration clearance. I wish I was still this enthusiastic about things. But today is the day we just relax and think of happy thoughts.
Our first stop was surprisingly easy as it was only a few steps away from the ferry terminal itself. It was still quite early, so local patrons had not flocked to the place yet. We were informed that it would get crowded for lunch, so we did come at the right time for the roti canai. I have never seen so much roti until I came down here to purposely eat them lol. After the seemingly never-ending photo-taking, we devoured. I was surprised at how simple the dish was, and yet I found myself eating it like it was a rare delicacy. It was tasty and filling! Paired with a good hot tea with milk, it was the perfect meal to start the day. The most exciting part was, I got the bill, and it was only RM 33. That is for an order of 7 rotis and 7 drinks. Not bad.
Our local guides were kind enough to drive us around town. With the sentimental scenery and the indications of rainfall, I began to wonder what Jungkook was doing this valentine’s day. While we burnt the calories from breakfast just by chitchatting, we were then ready to eat more.
The next location is a quaint roadside eatery somewhere in Sungai Mas. It was almost noon, and the sun was mighty high at this point. Earlier on the bus, we went thru cloudy skies with a chance of rain. But then again when you ask a local, this sunny to cloudy to rainy to sunny in a span of a few minutes is a normal occurrence. It was nothing to be surprised about.
The choices are varied, but we were urged to try the mee rebus here. It was full of flavor and you can see why the locals came here to eat. The other dishes we tried included mee soto and rojak manis. The right amount of heat and umami is just perfect for those who want something familiar yet not monotonous. Dessert is also highly recommended with the local cendol (with sticky rice) and corn ice kacang with chia seeds. Refreshing and filling indeed for this weather. It was the right amount of perfection to end one’s hearty lunch. While paying for our feast (RM 84), we also got some local paos to munch on when boredom struck –as if it was possible.
We hopped right back on our bus and continued our search for whatever could catch our eye. The next thing I knew, we were stopping in front of a pink shophouse. This is Sus Kerepek House. It carries a wide range of local sweets and treats that you can buy in bulk or in smaller packages. It’s a candy shop on steroids lol. There is no way that you would end up empty-handed for sure. Prices are reasonable; therefore, you would immediately think of getting something to bring back home.
As we cheerfully went back on the road, we knew that we needed to go to Sungai Rengit to go to another famous shop. We went to Kedai Kek Lim Choo Seng. We got the usual local Chinese goodies available here. Prices are also reasonable and the pineapple tart that I got was yummy. Unfortunately, we were kind of quick at this stop since we all needed a bathroom break. It was a bit too late when we realized that this same shop specializes in cooked and uncooked spaghetti. It was so random and stupefying that we had to take turns in reading the name card that we got from this shop. I need to come back here and ask for the spaghetti.
A bathroom break means we must find a place that can accommodate nature’s call for the whole group. It was also a unanimous decision that this would go hand in hand with a coffee break. We found Zus coffee just around the corner, so we made a beeline for the counter to order, then to the bathroom lol. An aesthetic coffee shop meant some drinks were trendy (Sakura rose matcha), with classics and staples available like your standard lattes and macchiatos. The price point for their drinks and pastries is pretty fair. No complaints about it. The ambiance is also modern and relaxing one can only imagine the number of TikToks and Reels made here.
By 1500hrs, we decided to make our way back to the ferry terminal to catch our 1600hrs ferry trip. Time passed by quickly today with all the eating that has happened. We were back in Singapore in less than an hour. I have to say that coming here and returning via ferry is very convenient. It was beyond bewilderment for me when people still endure the long and painful hours of waiting to clear at Causeway, just to spend a day or two at Pengerang.
Take the ferry. It’s fun and practical and relaxing.
I will talk about cats some other day.

@royalreef sent: "Vera! Joy!!! Amira!!!!!" She chirps out the three names in tandem, fins perked up to their full height as she rushes over. It's easy to presume the excitement is over her luck of spotting all three of them together, that it makes her trips easier — but this is a little too much, even for that.
There's a joy in her today. An excitement, a happiness that goes down to the bone and keeps digging from there. It makes her tremble, body shaking ever so slightly and tail twitching and fins fluttering no matter what else she does, and oh, that smile!
The expression isn't native to Miranda's face, it doesn't fit her features in the same way as the twitches of her fins or the brightness in her eyes, but the ear-to-ear grin nonetheless manages to make a home of her yet. It comes more and more naturally every day, lovestruck and whole, and more and more she welcomes it in. This is her home too. It's fitting, that it should make such an impression on her.
"I am glad I could find all of you, I have so much to do today — it is mine and Aaravi's anniversary! And in my kingdom, it is traditional that it is celebrated with the giving of food to others, so-"
One by one, Miranda shoved a basket into each of their hands. They were made of woven seagrass, treated in some way to make them hardy and easy to keep, and to give them a pleasant dull purple color. From their handles hang carved trinkets — made of carved bone and ivory and pearls, some in the shape of some stylized type of eel, some in the shape of shells, and some in more artistic shapes, giving them flair.
True to her word, there's Merkingdom baked goods inside. Crab shells stuffed with meat and spices derived from corals and sponges, whale jerky that's tender and pulls apart easily between teeth, a baked pie of giant squid meat with chunks of seal for flavoring, fanciful desserts made of sugar in the shape of conch shells that can be seen through like crystal — all of that in more, little treats from Miranda's people, a small bounty of the ocean.
All except for the piece that sits on top. A slice of cake, just like any that would be found on the land, and iced over with elaborate little pink and purple hearts.
"I made them myself! I am quite pleased with the results too — let me know how you like them! Happy Valentine's Day!"
And then Miranda thumped her tail, and fluttered her fins, and grinned all the more, and she had darted off again.
“I get a few surprise admirers’ and attempted lovers’ letters this time of year myself, Joy, but you really do take the cake.” Vera mused, watching as a heart-shaped box of chocolates fell unceremoniously from the sky. She caught them from disrupting the pile of letters, instead tossing it over her shoulder to the ‘food’ pile.
“Girl, this is NUTS. You really don’t have any fancy ward thingies for this sorta stuff?” Amira asked, juggling a few plush hearts around before each one is soundly shot out of the air with a burst of magic from Joy’s fingertips.
“Of course I do, but then they get stuck in limbo and the backlog eventually just shows up anyways. So I figured I’d try just dealing with it this year-”
The three amidst chatter pause at the sound of Miranda’s voice, attention diverted to the princess closing in rapidly on them. The trio are quick to turn fully, even if perhaps Joy and Amira are just a bit taken by surprise at Miranda’s overflowing excitement. Vera, on the other hand, can only let out one of those genuine little cackles of delight at the sight of just how elated she looks today.
“Oh, hello, love! Congratulations to you both.” Vera replied, even as she took the basket with a bit of surprise herself this time. She can’t particularly recall Miranda ever speaking of cooking, so it takes even her off-guard this time.
Amira is the first to peek into the basket, unable to suppress the quiet admiring whistle at the sight of it all. It wasn’t often she had this much food in one place that was given to her, especially when it admittedly all looked this good. “Oh dang, girl, congrats! Happy anniversary and many more, y’know?”
“Oh yes, I’m happy for you both! It all looks lovely too, you did a great job.” Joy added last, smiling all the wider herself with a chuckle. She looked a bit drained herself, though that can be answered when she swats another magically delivered love letter off the table the three had been conversing at with an annoyed utterance. They’d been at this for awhile.
“Happy Valentine’s Day!” They add as she departs, Joy watching Vera flick one of the many continuously appearing envelopes into the air for Amira to shoot down with a small controlled jet of flame.
