things i should be doing: ❌ text people back ❌ knitting i have not touched in months ❌ research for upcoming interview
thing i am doing: ✅ asbestos is greek for "unquenchable," for which there is technically an exact translation uluithiad, but it's noldorin which while originally intended as the language of the noldor back in like 1930 or whenever did eventually become sindarin in final stages of language development so it really doesn't mesh at all with the quenya use-case i need and it's got that isolated [d] phoneme so i can't try to pass it off as quenya anyway, however in the relevant VT edition patrick wynne suggests it might come from the same primitive quendi root as quenya luita- meaning "to flood, inundate, drench" so maybe i can get away with ú- (not) + luita- (to flood) + -ima (possibility suffix) to produce the hypothetical quenya equivalent uluitima which, let's be honest, is probably fine for a throwaway line in a section of dialogue that is literally only 150 words long

// Commodore Fordo, being a member of the Intelligence Branch and not a true Imperial Naval Officer, does not typically lead a sizable fleet or flotilla of his own like his rank title would suggest. When not otherwise attached to a larger fleet, he commands his single Raider-Class Corvette, The Impetuous, which tops out at only 150 meters long, alongside an inconsistent number of smaller hyperdrive-equipped support craft like Intersector-class sloops, Gozanti-Class Transports, IGV-55 surveillance vessels, and his personal VT-49 Decimator, the Ardent Resolve. By Imperial standards it's a tiny force, with the only true starfighter accompaniment being a pair of prototypes and whatever TIE fighters the Gozanti's may be carrying. It is not fit for defensive combat against anything greater than starfighter squadrons or small picket ships, and primarily exists to facilitate Fordo's special operations. Oftentimes, this unit dwindles down to just The Impetuous and Ardent Resolve.

Regrading Taskmaster: S05E05 A wind-dried puffin.
*Score changes noted in parenthesis.
Back from a brief hiatus.
Just something I noticed at the top -- the title disappears where the period would normally go. Maybe that's just the YouTube edit.
Prize Task: The Most High-Octane Item
I think it's worthwhile to get a dictionary definition of "high-octane." From Merriam-Webster, "powerful, strong, or effective." Mark steals Greg's pants . . . and I'm of two minds on this one: (1) It seems like it deserves five points. (2) Mark did this, didn't find a good category to submit it for, so he shoehorned it in here. Nish's and Aisling's submissions somehow fit the category even worse and Aisling beats him out because a pie on a rake actually paints a decently effective image.
Despite being forced in, Mark deserved five points. I think Bob's rocket bike is better than Sally's pig feed for what I would think are obvious reasons.
Tumblr media
Aisling: 2 (-1) Bob: 4 (0) Mark: 5 (+4) Nish: 1 (-1) Sally: 3 (-2)
VT 01: Put the biggest thing inside this balloon. The balloon must then be successfully inflated, tied, and bigger than your head.
I don't want any credit for it, I just want to say I'm fed up.
There's a possible order-of-operations loophole here. It seems like the thing could be removed from the balloon, then it's inflated + tied + etc. It's highly dependent on whether it's worth defending the spirit of the task.
As Taskmaster has taught us before, many contestants struggle with blowing up and tying balloons. I'm okay with other people blowing up the balloons for Mark and Aisling. I'm less okay with aggregating items to make the biggest thing -- because the task specifically specified an individual thing. That means Aisling's item is either a tomato or a breadstick.
Bob and Sally have to take zeroes because they don't get their balloons tied. Of course Nish's just explodes when he tries to blow it up in a perfectly normal way.
Tumblr media
Aisling: 5 Bob: 0 Mark: 4 Nish: 0 Sally: 0
VT 02: Generate a watercooler moment involving this watercooler. Most remarkable watercooler moment wins.
Let's save the best 'til Nish.
So we're looking for a moment that people would talk about in the office. First things first -- dear god, Sally. It's the easiest five points I've ever seen . . . I won't say any more.
Bob rips an apple in half and I think I'm giving it one. Two big drawbacks to it: (1) There is no reason for the watercooler to be in the shot . . . at all. (2) Bob has already done this trick on Would I Lie To You?, and Greg was on the damn panel for that episode.
Nish's is awful. I do sort of buy into the "so shit it's good" argument. It helps that Mark and Aisling's attempts are so very very bad. I think Mark edges her because Aisling herself says "I forgot that happened."
Tumblr media
Aisling: 2 (0) Bob: 1 (-2) Mark: 3 (+2) Nish: 4 (0) Sally: 5 (0)
Solo Task: Send the Taskmaster an anonymous cheeky text message, every single day, for the next five months.
When I look back at this calendar year, it's one of the major things I've done with it.
I often see this task cited as one of the most unfairly graded in the series. Mark gets zero for months of work . . . and I'm entirely okay with it. He sends 148 when he needed 150; he didn't complete the task.
Tumblr media
Mark: 0
VT 03: Make the tallest tower of cans on this table. Highest tower of cans wins. Also whilst building your tower you must shake Alex's hand and say you're from a different country once every ten seconds.
Half the countries in the world.
If you're not going to remove the rope, move the cans to Alex then move the table to Alex. I don't think there are any ambiguities to the grading. Nish's subsidiary towers obviously shouldn't count and too bad for Aisling.
Tumblr media
Aisling: 1 Bob: 5 Mark: 5 Nish: 3 Sally: 2
Live Task: Find the Fins. You may each ask one question to one person.
This is the stupidest task. No comment otherwise.
Tumblr media
Aisling: 4 Bob: 2 Mark: 5 Nish: 4 Sally: 2
Final
Watson just kicked ass on this one.
Tumblr media
Aisling: 14 Bob: 12 Mark: 22 Nish: 12 Sally: 12

ID: IMEU Policy Project @imeupolicy tweets,
“BREAKING: For the first time in US history there will be a vote in Congress to block weapons to Israel.
“Sending Israel weapons is a violation of US law and opposed by a majority of Americans, who are sick of seeing their tax dollars fund Israel's war crimes against Palestinians.”
This tweet is in reply to Bernie Sanders’s @SenSanders tweet “Today, with colleagues, I introduced legislation to block arms sales to Israel.
Sending more weapons to Netanyahu's extremist government is immoral & illegal: U.S. weapons are responsible for far too many civilian casualties in Gaza.
“We must end our complicity in this atrocity.”
Senator Sanders’s tweet also hosts an image of what appears to be his Senator newsletter. The header is green with white lettering saying “Senator Bernie Sanders United States Senator for Vermont” with a seal of some sort. The title is in black font on white background saying “NEWS: Sanders and Colleagues Move to Block Arms Sales to Israel.” The text is as follows.
“WASHINGTON, Sept. 25 - Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) today introduced Joint Resolutions of Disapproval to block the sale of more than $20 billion in offensive U.S. weaponry to Israel. Sanders spoke last week on the Senate floor about why the sales must not move forward and today issued the following statement:
“Today, with colleagues, I introduced Joint Resolutions of Disapproval seeking to block certain arms sales to Israel. The Senate will vote on these resolutions when it reconvenes in November. Let me explain why these arms sales must not proceed.
“Israel clearly had the right to respond to Hamas' horrific terrorist attack on October 7th, which killed 1,200 innocent Israelis and took hundreds of hostages. But Prime Minister Netanyahu's extremist government has not simply waged war against Hamas. It has waged all-out war against the Palestinian people, killing more than 41,000 Palestinians and injuring more than 95,000 - 60 percent of whom are women, children, or elderly people. Netanyahu has bombed hospitals and schools, starved children, destroyed infrastructure and housing stock, and made life unlivable in Gaza. The United States must end its complicity in this atrocity.
“Sending more weapons is not only immoral, it is also illegal. The Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 and the Arms Export Control Act lay out clear requirements for the use of American weaponry - Israel has egregiously violated those rules. American weapons have been used indiscriminately, and several of the systems included in these sales are responsible for a large number of civilian casualties. There is a mountain of documentary evidence demonstrating that these weapons are being used in violation of U.S. and international law. It is also clear that Israel has blocked U.S. humanitarian aid, making it ineligible for U.S. security assistance under Section 6201 of the Foreign Assistance Act.
“There are also clear policy reasons not to proceed with these arms sales. For months, the Biden Administration has been trying to reach a ceasefire deal that would secure the release of the hostages and allow more aid to flow into Gaza.
“Every time an agreement appears close, Netanyahu introduces new demands and sinks the deal. It is clear that Netanyahu is prolonging the war to cling to power and avoid prosecution for corruption. Meanwhile, his government has also overseen record illegal settlement expansion in the West Bank and unleashed a wave of violence there that has killed nearly 700 Palestinians, including 150 children, and several Americans over the last 11 months.
“And now the world must contend with the dramatic escalation in Lebanon.
“President Biden has emphatically called for de-escalation and said that a ‘full-scale war is not in anyone's interest.’ He has underlined that a ceasefire for hostage deal in Gaza is the key to a diplomatic solution to the wider conflict. That is the policy of the United States: to pursue a ceasefire for hostage deal that will prevent further escalation, stop the killing and the rocket attacks, allow displaced people to return to their homes sooner, and finally bring the hostages home.
“Netanyahu has resisted these calls. Instead, at every stage of this conflict, when presented with the choice between military escalation and diplomacy, Netanyahu has chosen to escalate to preserve his coalition at home.
“For all of these reasons - moral, legal, and strategic - sending more weapons to Netanyahu's extremist government is unacceptable. That is why many of our closest allies have already stopped offensive arms transfers. Congress must now act to uphold U.S. and international law and use our leverage to advance U.S. policy goals.
“The Joint Resolutions of Disapproval are as follows:
“• Sanders, Welch, Merkley to block the sale of additional Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAMs);
“• Sanders, Welch, Merkley to block the sale of 120mm tank cartridges;
“• Sanders, Welch, Merkley to block the sale of 120mm High Explosive mortar cartridges;
“• Sanders, Welch, Merkley to block the sale of enhanced JDAM receivers;
“• Sanders and Welch to block the sale of Modified M1148A1P2 Medium Tactical Vehicles;
“• Sanders to block the sale of fifty new F-15IA aircraft, associated weapons and parts, as well as upgrade kits for existing F-15 aircraft.”

An attempt at abolishment-
Funny enough, it was actually deep red Alabama that actually abolished the police force temporarily- over racist texts.
Now, I ain’t against community policing. After all, Kyle Rittenhouse policed the heck out of his community… and the left lost their minds all over again. I don’t trust cops as it is, considering the left weaponizes them both locally and federally to go after dissidents/people they don’t like. I just don’t trust you people to make that call, considering you’re all highly insane.
Tumblr media
I can think of another time the community policed itself. Two civil rights lawyers telling a group of terrorists to get off their lawn… and the left lost their minds over that one too.
I know words are hard for you, but the word “abolish” means “to do away with”. So if we are to “do away with” the police, that would mean no one is picking up when you call 911. If you defund them so much that, say, they can’t get the staff but still exist as an organization, the effect is similar.
Ultimately, of course, you should be able to defend yourself and your property with a gun. After all, when seconds count, the police are minutes, maybe even hours, away.
Another issue arises when you realize that the left loves criminals. So much so that they quite literally helped bail them out of jail for burning down cities (the frequent defense of pedophiles from the left doesn’t help matters). You can put up all the propaganda videos you’d like, but it won’t change the facts (I know leftists hate facts and logic; still haven’t figured out how they plan to go about gun control while also saying “abolish the police”) of the situation.
So why were the police refunded? Well, there are several answers to that. As mentioned, a spike in crime had followed. But it’s also worth pointing out Democrats had realized “we aren’t going to get anyone who isn’t a cultist to vote for us if they’re being mugged six times per week.” So what happened when they realized this? Well, they pivoted from “abolish and defund! FTP! Ban guns!” to “uh, uh, crap, uh, here’s money, cops! (Also still ban guns)”
The left both is and isn’t against the police. You see, they want laws to apply to their opposition, but never to themselves. If a police force might prove unreliable when it comes to enforcing leftist policies specifically, they’re to be done away with.
This may not sound like much, but it’s really the most important thing I’ve said here until this point.
Let’s look at federal law enforcement agencies- the ATF and FBI specifically.
Never does the mainstream left (or even a majority of the far left; though at this point there is little distinction colloquially speaking) seem to call for them to be abolished. That’s because the ATF and FBI persecute those who are of the right, while ignoring the crimes that the left commit. A right winger owns a rifle with a barrel that is a quarter inch too long. To the gulag! But a leftists intimidates a jury, commits arson, and attempts a murder? Not a single bit of this will be punished.
There are, however, times when local cops are against them (extremely rarely; sometimes a local cop might kill, for example, a knife wielding rapist or something to that effect- if this person just so happens, by pure coincidence, to be black, then the defunding and abolishment crowd marches in and commits acts of terrorism; the racism of low expectation plays a part in this. This is the exact scenario from Kenosha, by the way.)
Similarly, there have been local departments who have said, for example, “we aren’t enforcing your gun laws, crazy old man.” Which naturally pisses off the left, as an armed populace can oppose them. And a police force opposing them by saying they won’t violate rights? That just can’t stand.
Issues arise more often for the rights of the people when a PD (or federal agency) goes left wing. It is my opinion that the best (middle ground) solution to the issue is that every peaceable citizen is well armed (as is the natural right of the individual), and that law enforcement goes no higher than a sheriff (one reasonably appointed to by locals). That is, if we are to have a PD at all. So no, ATF doesn’t get to keep existing. Neither does the FBI.
Much easier to hold a smaller beast accountable. Wrestling a single house cat will always be easier than wrestling ten mountain lions.
But as I said, this is a middle ground solution. After all, Christ is King and the only legitimate authority. No human government is trustworthy, just as no one on the left is anything resembling sane. Unfortunately, that government isn’t here yet.
Could peace be kept without a police force at all? Yes. But this would require the left to cease to exist. The right (what little of it remains) at this point merely wishes to be left alone. The left wants to infringe, crush, and overrun. You rarely (if ever) see the right join together in a large mob to intimidate, destroy, and murder. Yet this is incredibly frequent for the left (7+ months of 2020, plus every summer since 2013 for example.)
The left will firebomb your house and have you ruined for a “mean tweet” (the definition of what is ok to say changes frequently), but excuse chants of “we’re coming for your children”. The right will want you in prison for touching children. These are two very different moral frameworks that cannot coexist.
If you really want a society in which cops aren’t needed, you’d need society to be entirely Christian (no, not the cultural “Christians.”)

Trivia time of KWST (C&VT OCs)
About their pov to swearing & dirty jokes
Kyte: I'm fine with that. I won't recommend doing that kind of thing in public though.

Why Ocasio-Cortez's Insanity at Jamaal Bowman's Rally Over the Weekend Is Even Funnier Now
Tumblr media
Rep. Jamaal Bowman’s (D-NY) political career is on the line. The unabashed progressive who is proudly anti-Israel and pulled a fire alarm in Congress to disrupt voting on a spending bill could be looking for a new line of work after tomorrow.
Over the weekend, Bowman held a rally in the Bronx, which included Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY)
youtube
and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT). It was an unhinged spectacle, with Ocasio-Cortez losing her mind on stage, which led to some funny captions regarding the footage. The videos were cringeworthy, but new images have made this event even funnier: it looks like a good chunk of the attendees appear to be media members.
Also, in between the profanity-laced tirades from Bowman, AOC and Sanders were heckled by pro-Hamas activists in the crowd. Sanders was booed for saying that Israel has the right to defend itself from a terrorist attack (via NY Post):
Socialists were eating their own at a rally for Rep. Jamaal Bowman in the Bronx Saturday as even more extreme leftists held a counter-event to rip “sellouts” Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for not backing Palestine enough to their liking.  Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez joined 300 comrades at St. Mary’s Park for a “get out and vote” rally in to support “Squad” member Bowman, who is badly behind in polls in his June 25 primary against Westchester County Executive George Latimer, a moderate Democrat.  […]  However, outside the park, the anti-Israel group Within Our Lifetime, run by radicals Nerdeen Kiswani and Fatima Mousa, hosted their “Flood the Bronx for Gaza” to counter the rally, which about 150 attended. Some banged drums while others held signs with slogans like “For class war to free Palestine! Dump Genocide Joe and the Squad.”
“If Bowman and the rest of them claim to be allies of the Palestinian people, the bare minimum is not endorsing the person we have been protesting against the last nine months and who has enabled the genocide of the people in Gaza,” said Kiswani, parroting a debunked Hamas talking point.
These people are a mess, and it’s no wonder why this movement is heavy on theatrics and light on accomplishments.

Should physical education be mandatory in all schools?
Fact Box
Schools in the United States require variations of classes in English, Social Science, Mathematics, and Science through a 12-year educational system, elementary to secondary school.
According to a 2016 study, out of 50 states and the District of Columbia, 39 require primary school students to take physical education, 37 for junior highers, and 44 for high school students.
Shape America states that only six states mandate physical education in every grade level (IL, HI, MA, MS, NY, and VT), while three states require nationally recommended 150-minute weekly exercise.
The Centers for Disease and Control Prevention (CDC) assert that “children and adolescents ages 6 to 17 years do 60 minutes or more of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity daily.”

James (No)
While physical education and health are undoubtedly essential areas of life and growth, there are numerous valid reasons why they should not be mandatory in our schools:
First, the US has fallen outside the top 10 in global academic rankings. One significant factor contributing to this is the need for adequate funding for schools. Schools may only have the means to offer some, not all, pupils high-quality physical education lessons because the subject frequently calls for specialized equipment, facilities, and qualified instructors. With this in mind, slots currently reserved for physical education could also be better used to offer students an opportunity to grow academically, as this should be the main focus of primary education.
Furthermore, compulsory physical education lessons might burden some students with physical restrictions or impairments that prevent them from participating in physical education activities. This reality would further alienate an important demographic of the student body. This and other factors can also lead to numerous safety concerns associated with physical education. Considering the woes mentioned above about the current education system, it is often the case that schools don't have policies in place to guarantee the security of all pupils.
Giving physical education a mandatory place in primary school curriculums can also lead to increased and unnecessary stress levels and pressure on some students. If a kid is not naturally athletic or is not interested in team sports, physical education classes may be a source of these negative emotions during an important developmental phase of life.
Chad (Yes)
Physical education is essential to a child's development, alongside other forms of education (such as mental, emotional, and social). Together, these lead to a healthy, well-balanced, and successful adult.
Phys Ed classes have sometimes had a negative perception or effect on students. This is primarily due to a need for more qualified instructors and resources. Such issues led to classes that were often a waste of time for some students and a source of anxiety or even bullying for others.
However, this is not to say that all PE classes are harmful or unnecessary. More modern PE classes at many schools offer a more comprehensive range of activities that are much less of a one-size fits all solution. These provide more activities that suit students' varying interests and needs (like yoga, stretching, individual sports, martial arts, etc.). Every student can find the activity that suits their physical and mental needs or circumstances.
America has some of the highest obesity rates in the world, and many adults do not know how to exercise, stretch, or be in touch with their physical bodies. This greatly strains our medical system and decreases our overall longevity and quality of life.
Instilling proper physical education ideals into these students early on in life will improve their overall health as individuals as well as benefit our society and economy in the long run. We do not need to abolish PE just because some have had bad experiences. Instead, we need to reform it and design a new curriculum that addresses the unique, holistic needs of the students.
