max sounded very certain in early 2022 when he said that lando was "not going to appreciate it" when quadrant left a 'lifesize' cardboard cutout of him behind lando's desk in monaco, but of course lando kept it there and gleefully used it to bully him at first opportunity a few weeks later. lando claimed to have put the cutout in the bin by jan 2023, allegedly because he was "fed up with looking at his face," and so it was presumed to be gone.

UPDATE: two years later, in feb 2025, max said the cutout is "somehow" still there. so apparently lando must've lied about throwing it away, and he's kept it around his apartment for almost three years now...

everything we know about host!vic’s childhood

(a sisyphean attempt to figure out what the fuck their backstory is)

will this make complete sense? no! absolutely not! and it’ll probably change in two weeks time! but i have thoughts and i am announcing them via megaphone

also for ease i’m referring to them as ‘the host’ rather than ‘host!vic’ for the remainder of this post

the host’s birth family

we know the host was at one point raised by both their parents. were they together? god knows. at some point, their father abandons them/the family and moves to miami, leaving the host and their twin sister katie behind. it’s likely this happens when the host is 7 or younger, as they spend a large amount of time with their grandfather and nana from that age onwards.

when the host is 12, they’re still living with their mother and katie, who doesn’t come to their birthday party, implying that at this time either their father hasn’t left yet or, my belief, that their grandfather and nana are taking partial custody of the twins (well, it’s probably more that their mother is kinda just leaving them there for days at a time)

on the topic of the grandparents: we know the host had a grandfather (bill) who was married to their biological grandmother, who died before the host was born. bill then marries nana. the host also mentions their grandmother on their other side, who apparently takes a lot of cruises.

based on all of this, i believe bill & nana are the host’s maternal grandparents, and their unnamed grandmother is their paternal grandmother. this would suggest that they still had some contact with their father’s side of the family after he abandoned them, although considering she’s always on a cruise she may be avoiding the host and/or their family.

at some point after the host’s 12th birthday, their mother abandons(?) them and katie, and the two live with bill and nana for an undetermined amount of time. somewhat soon after this - when the twins are still young enough not to be safe home alone for too long - nana abandons them for four days, leading to bill divorcing her.

after this… we don’t know a ton. katie and the host grow apart, and as katie mentions their father abandoning them but not their mother it’s likely that she reconnected with their mother at some point. at some point so does the host, although they clearly still have a very strained relationship with their mother considering she refused to come to their birthday.

at some point, bill dies and his entire inheritance goes to nana. this isn’t super important to the timeline but depending on when this happens, it might explain their obsession with money as a power symbol. also the hayes steele thing. in my mind those two are connected but that’s up for interpretation.

as the host is apparently set to be the sole person organising nana’s funeral, it’s likely this was true for bill’s as well. we don’t know how old they were when bill died, but given katie’s absence from the funeral planning it could be assumed that she’s living with their mother at this point while the host is/was living with bill?

so, in summary, my best attempt to figure out the timeline is as follows: the host’s parents split up when the host and katie are around 7, and the two are left in the care of their mother, who regularly leaves them with their grandfather and nana. the host and katie grow apart, and around the age of 12 their mother leaves for a long period. during this time, nana leaves the two home alone for four days, leading to her divorce from the twins’ grandfather. their mother returns, and katie goes to live with her, while the host stays with their grandfather (who may be the only healthy adult in this whole family).

bonus thoughts:

if you subscribe to the idea that the host and the bianca were childhood friends (which i do), they presumably met after the host’s 12th birthday considering she didn’t attend it. this… doesn’t really make the david situation any less fucked up

it’s obvious katie was the golden child, and based on her having been a popular girl and the ‘nerd alert’ thing from nana it’s pretty easy to guess that nana encouraged the two fighting/katie bullying the host (something that their father also seemed to encourage, if we take the sippy cup story from augbert as fact)

Still figuring out Daisy and Jordan designs (especially Jordan hdfgkhdfgj), but here's some practice, mainly of Jay himself! I have a lot of fun drawing him and figuring out his personality. I've always pictured him putting a TON of effort into perfecting his appearance, so I think he should wear a simple corset to shape his silhouette into that Arrow Collar Man type look. Without it, I think he's got more of a strongman build. Strong and broad from growing up on a farm, living as a sailor for a while, and then being in the military, but a bit soft around bc of living in excess nowadays. I also feel the need to specify my Gatsby is about 5'6". This is vital information.

As for Daisy and Jordan, I'm trying to work out how to draw them both how I picture them and how they're described in the book. I generally know how I want Daisy's face and hair to be, but there are some things I'm still fiddling with. With Jordan.... Shes a struggle gdhjfghlgkjhdkj I originally wanted her to have straight hair, but then while sketching her I couldn't make it look quite right, so I tried something closer to how she looks in one of the older movies. I might stick with this, but make her a bit more butch in fashion styles. Idk! I'll have to figure that out as I go, I think.

btw. a while ago someone wrote that it was weird, creepy, wack (whatever) that Aob made such a big deal out of the fact that Puen lied to him about his virginity. And that it plays into this creepy virginity obsession of society.

As someone who hates this obsession as well, I still disagree on that reading of that conflict.

The thing is, Puen told Aob that one of the main reasons why he is into him, is because Aob took his virginity. Aob basically is Mr. "trust issues, no feelings due to past betrayal and hurt", slowly agreed to emotionally open up to Puen and their mutual feelings for each other. It's the fact that Puen lied to him, that makes him that upset, not the virginity part. That Puen betrayed his trust just shortly after they got closer. Which, if it had been true, was basically Peun lying to him to manipulate him. But in the end it wasn't really a lie but a misunderstanding of what went down with Keen.

rhaenyra on her relationship with sexuality & gender

throughout the show, we've seen multiple instances of rhaenyra embracing a more masculine identity. obviously in the world that they live in there's no way to understand or terms to use to acknowledge the way that she feels. i have my rhaenyra using she/they pronouns as sort of a disconnect from her gender, a desire to understand herself a lot deeper than how she currently does. in the world she lives in, gender roles are clear and vivid, lines are drawn tightly between men and women. rhaenyra is forced to fit into this mold. they longs to embrace the more masc side of herself. this also directly ties into rhaenyra's sexuality and their understanding of it, which i will go more into in the next section. rhaenyra's base understanding of men connects with how she views herself, the things that they value, the desires that they hold, and the people they love. as a result, the desire to embrace this masculinity is vividly strong. you'll see rhaenyra want to go into battle as a knight, or dream about being a man, or imagine that there's another world in which she can explore facets of herself freely. in a modern verse, they would be able to embrace this fully.

rhaenyra & sexuality

tying directly in with this, one thing that is vital in understanding my rhaenyra is knowing that they are bisexual with a preference leaning towards women. another thing that is absolutely vital in understanding rhaenyra is knowing that she was raised being deeply in love with her best friend ( which is canon, but also amplified by my portrayal ) and this sort of changed a lot of her mindset growing up. she knew what those feelings were, and knew she couldn't act on them, before she even understood the nuances of sex and sexuality. that's why when mysaria gets close to her, there's basically no hesitation in kissing her, as rhaenyra has already worked through this and knows this solid truth about herself ( don't even get me started on alicent though or we'll be here FOREVER ). it's really important as well to know that her sexuality and gender go hand in hand, rhaenyra's desire to be a man and embrace the "manly" things about herself also involves embracing those desires for other women, ones in which they've purposefully buried for a long time. unlike alicent, it's not a subconscious burying of those emotions, but rather a conscious choice. their relationship with a woman wouldn't be accepted, so the second they get feelings for one, there's an understanding that it needs to be embraced differently than her relationship with men.

rhaenyra & her relationships with others

this is another part of this post i really wanted to write because how does all of this tie into her previous relationships on the show? so here's the breakdown person by person: alicent / obviously i already said rhaenyra was in love with her growing up, and still is at the point in canon where they are. having this first love growing up has always affected her. as i said before it sort of led to this understanding that they're different than others, and led to this whole sequence of events that allows them to understand that they embrace gender in a different way than others do. there'll never be a way i write rhaenyra without this part of her, it's super important to understanding her character. i could write more here but that's a whole post in itself guys. daemon / growing up, daemon was all she wanted to be. he was masculine, loud, unapologetic. in my canon, taking on daemon as a husband was mostly for her own security; he's a warrior, and people take her more seriously when he's by her side. but she never fully felt comfortable with him and never fully trusted him. he sort of unintentionally taunts her, a reminder that she can never have what she fully wants. i do not play rhaenyra as ever having been in love with him, not truly. having him around though is very helpful for her. when she was younger, she enjoyed daemon's company. it's difficult for her to distinguish between care for him and the feeling of freedom she felt whenever she was around him. he offered a different way of living, not in complete service of the crown, embracing her own desires. for that, she will always be grateful; in a way, daemon taking her around and telling her to embrace her desires helped them understand parts of herself. but i don't have it in my own canon that she ever loved him, not truly, her relationship with him is sort of a cover, and if she had been able to embrace herself in the world they live in, she wouldn't even look his way when choosing a husband. harwin / rhaenyra was in love with harwin, and he never judged or belittled her for how she felt about herself. there's an understanding between them that is almost unmatched by anyone else. the loss of him hurts, and she does still love him in a way. her relationship with him is the first time she truly understands that she does love both men and women. i have a headcanon that she did tell him the truth, that she's bisexual, and he didn't mind at all, which is why the loss of him stings even worse. cole / cole was just a fling, but his reaction to rhaenyra not wanting to run away with him led to like a whole host of things in rhaenyra's mind, a lot of fury at anger at being a woman and all that came with it. cole's relationship with them in canon sort of propelled forward a lot of misogynistic terms being thrown towards her and that just makes them resent being a woman even more. obviously this depends on whether or not the cole player i might write against embraces this plotline, but that's sort of how it works for her. mysaria / her desire and care for mysaria is new to her, but something she's willing to fully embrace, even if it has to be in secret. she's comforting, and not at all like the others she's been in relationships with in the past. being with her feels comfortable. kissing her is the first time she's kissed another woman, but it feels like she's been waiting for it forever. something about it feels completely natural. rhaenyra's sexuality is not a mystery to them, like i said they understood it long ago, but being able to kiss another woman sort of unlocks a door for her. leads to her understanding that it's something she wants and desires far more than relationships with men.

obviously the way that i write rhaenyra and their past relationships can change according to player but as a base rule, this is sort of how i approach all of her relationships, and how they shaped her as a person. if you made it this far, hope you enjoyed my 1k words of bullshit!
