You Can Live Forever (dirs. Sarah Watts & Mark Slutsky) x VIFF 2022.
This queer period teen romance about a Jehovah’s Witness community focuses on its burgeoning forbidden lesbian relationship with few surprises but earnestly unfolds a devout religious drama of simmering internal conflict. Set in the 1990s Quebec, YCLF feels particularly universal thanks to its specific setting focused on adolescent young women struggling to express their independent sexual desires amidst a strict religious climate. In particular, the restrained but dynamic lead performances from Anwen O’Driscoll and June Laporte make our investment in the doomed central romance easier to invest into.
Screened at the 2022 Vancouver International Film Festival as part of the Northern Lights series.

. It’s like Olivia getting vogue when she did, if it was September 2022 edition, the whole “woman director” thing would have made more sense since her project dropped then vs 9 months prior.
Olivia’s vogue cover was timed to coincide with the original release date of Feb 22 rather than Sept 22 which is when it finally came out. The pandemic moved loads of films around.
Where is your proof of that? We all predicted that they were going to hold it until festivals (like they did for Dune) way before it was even announced, so it's doubtful they ever planned a February 2022 release date. The studio was banking on a boost from VIFF to translate to box office because it shelved everything except DWD and Black Adam for the rest of the year.

Brother (dir. Clement Virgo) x VIFF 2022.
Virgo’s adaptation constructs a moving portrait of Jamaican-Canadian identity in young men and all of its struggles. Juggling different timelines and characters’ ages gets difficult, but the film wisely focuses on the performances and mood clearly set by its specific time and place. Scarborough in the '90s feels so vividly realized just as the community of people dramatized are so recognizable despite any unfamiliarity with the setting or culture seen.
Premiered at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival as part of the Next Wave program.

Wow. Look at those Harry stats. I know there are anons here who don’t live inside Harry’s butthole so their first language probably isn’t greedy fucker or homewrecking clown whore. If I may be allowed to translate the money math numbers and facts…
Here they be:

VIFF 2022 Wraps Up With Excitement
VIFF 2022 Wraps Up With Excitement
In the past, you’d have to wait until late in November for my VIFF wrap-up blog. However this was one of those years I could only stay for half the Festival. I will get into my reason why I didn’t take in the full festival later in my blog. Anyways the Vancouver International Film Festival wrapped its 2022 Festival up on Sunday, October 9th. Just in time for people to have their Thanksgiving…
