Time for the secondary protagonist of this tale, Emmet! He may have a familiar face— if only he had the same understanding of himself. He occupies more of a Virgil/mentor archetype, and within the Pokémon games universe he would be the closest to a Professor role.

To emphasize again, this project takes place in distant future of the Pokémon in-game universe. The plotlines of previous games are all considered canon up until Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Anything past that is considered non-canon within the context of Spectrum. Emmet’s place in particular was based on the context of PLA and my own interpretations/theories on the subject of the twins when playing it (mostly answering questions like “where is Emmet”, “is he in present-day Unova or another time/place entirely”, “what happened to cause the separation”, etc.)

Emmet is an amnesiac and fugitive against the New Unova League, as well as a surrogate father to Una. Despite being a verrry blunt and open book, Emmet remains a bit of a mystery. His earliest memory is waking up in the custody of the Pokémon League with nothing but his ratty coat and hat that just so happened to have his name stitched inside. Interregators told him he was found with illegal possessions (what type of possessions, he still doesn't know) and had been conspiring to eliminate the Champion. It was only through an intervention that he was able to escape with a mysterious little girl in tow. To this day, he still has no idea where he came from before his captivity or if he has any roots somewhere in New Unova. Although there will always remain the desire to know his true self, under the current circumstances, Emmet is focused more on his found family in Una and his business partner Fajra.

Due to his experiences, Emmet has a tendency to be more reserved… at least, sometimes. He is more mischievous than he first appears and typically uses this to his advantage when faced with more sketchy characters. He is very observant, but learned that his commentary can get him into trouble. It also may just be that he has become more restrained with his trickster side in order to show a good example to the young rascal in his charge. If he wants her to follow his safety guidelines, he should probably learn to follow them himself, right?

Emmet currently only has one Pokémon— a Neo Variant Liepard. If he had any other Pokémon prior to his amnesia, he has no way of knowing where they are or what they were. He acquired Liepard during his incarceration, but he’s never spoken on the specifics of how he acquired her. Regardless, their experiences together led to a strong comradery between them. Liepard is almost always out of her pokéball and flanking his side. For whatever reason, Emmet never pursued acquiring more Pokémon and seems to avoid Pokémon battles altogether. He’s never made it clear why this is the case. However, on the rare occasion where he and Liepard do battle, they are notoriously ruthless and almost perfectly in-sync. At the very least, he has shown to have a strong knowledge of battling, even if he doesn't seek it out.

I currently do not have as many sketches of Emmet as I do Una since I'm building Una from the ground u, and I struggle to find a design/style I like for him. This sketch of the pair and their Pokémon is one of my favorites.

My one other drawing I liked was an even chibi-er version of him (I don't usually draw in chibi style, but its proven to be the easiest to use), including some character notes from the time.

I've gone back and forth on a LOT of his character since I wanted to have his character explore a twist in the themes originally given to him by the creators. I know there are theories that Emmet is meant to embody truth while his brother embodies ideals, so its been an interesting challenge to work with this character in the dystopian context where truth is oppressed and often requires characters to abandon honesty. Its also difficult because Emmet is known for his optimism and I don't want to take that from him, even in a dystopian context. I believe his upbeat/mischievous nature helps him stand out from his brother, and quite frankly, I think even dystopian worlds could use some hope. I'm just more use to writing Ingo characters rather than Emmets. I'm hoping I can do this little guy justice :’)

In your Pokémon au, do the boys have to deal with instincts or anything like that? Like does the Pokémon they (represent?) have any effects on their habits or behaviors?

Yes! So, for this AU, everyone in the universe has certain habits and behaviors pertaining to the Pokémon they are. Ex: Bird Pokemon molt and preen and have the urge to migrate at a certain time of the year Ex: Scolipedes and Centiskorches have an innate rivalry with each other It’s not like their instincts completely take over their minds, but subtle things in how they act. The boys’ personalities are exactly the same just with some additional quirks. I'm basing how they act from dex entries/ in-game animations/ and other media! This is long so strap in!

Ingo

In Ingo’s case, Chandelure tends to spin A LOT. It’s a habit they all share whether to battle or emote. It’s just what they do.

Chandelure don’t get dizzy so they can do so without repercussion.

This behavior started when he evolved into a Lampent.

Ingo either spins on his toes when he’s happy or when he attacks. But his twirls are sharper and not as smooth and elegant as other Chandelure

Think of a pirouette but very stilted.

He spins on his heel pretty fast, too, and smacks Emmet every now and then.

He tends to point his toes like a ballerina while he floats.

He often sways on his feet or in the air like a pendulum if he’s idle or deep in thought.

This is kind of a bad thing because he might accidentally hypnotize a passerby by the combination of the motion and his flames.

Luckily, riding the train hides his swaying as it’s already a bumpy ride.

Although sometimes he has to snap the person out of his trance. He will profusely apologize afterward.

His flames aren't hot unless he wants them to but they feel warm

Another thing that creeps Emmet out a bit is that Ingo can see and talk to spirits. Not ghost Pokémon. Actual spirits.

Certain Pokémon have this ability and fewer are able to help these spirits. Ingo is one of them

Chandelure, in particular, act as a lure. haha

Emmet can kind of feel if a presence is there but he needs Ingo’s clarification. (it's that twin connection they share)

Unlike popular belief, Chandelure do not destroy a spirit with their flames. It may look like it but it's to help a lost soul move on.

While he is a conductor for trains, he doubles as a guide for lost spirits because he believes it's his duty. (Idea from this wonderful fic!)

Some aren't ready and he’ll respect their decision and leave them alone

What does bother him is that he can sense when someone is about to die and hates hospitals for this exact reason

It's awful because he feels it multiple times a day from passengers

He doesn't want to burden Emmet so he stays quiet

Emmet knows when Ingo's overwhelmed and will try to distract him the best he can

He's terrified to one day sense Emmet's death

Emmet

Emmet, as an Eelektross, has a bad chewing problem! I kind of showed it in this post already but he gnaws at any pen or pencil any chance he can get. If not he’ll chew on his nails.

He lets out small bursts of electricity from his teeth as he chews in thought

He has pockets full of hard candy to curb the issue though

Low on sugar? He can help!

It's also used to bribe the Joltik Quadruplets. (I'll show them later!)

He does bite Ingo if they get into an argument. It's always Ingo's tails too. But they rarely seriously fight anyway

Emmet has bit through their cutlery before...multiple times... but it's on him to replace it. (Ingo has his own set of utensils now)

He'll either thump or swish his tail when he's agitated.

He has the tendency to wrap around anything if he stays in the same place for a while. (A pole/his office chair/ furniture)

He mostly coils around people verrry tightly when he gives a hug, which is a habit he started as an Eelektrik.

You have to tell him to let go because he unconsciously constricts the air out of you.

He's stronger than he looks so please tell him because he doesn’t realize and never wants to hurt anyone.

Ingo is mostly the recipient of this but Elesa is a close second. The depot agents are third.

With any body of water, he starts to think how the water feels and has the urge to jump in. It doesn't matter if it's freshwater or seawater. He wants to dive in.

In the water, Emmet is a completely different guy. It's like a switch flips in his head. It’s freeing for him to be underwater as he can move how he wants to!

Beach trips to Undella Town or Humilau City are a frequent thing, and he will be cranky if he misses a day!

His favorite place is the Marine Tube because Ingo can be there too!

Ingo will walk through the tunnel as he watches Emmet have fun

Since Eelektross in canon are ambush hunters, Emmet subconsciously acts like one

Is the type to silently enter a room and sneak up on you

He likes to wait deep below the surface watching above him

It's like his version of cloud-watching

If there’s a shadow at the top, he has to find out what it is!

He has a habit of swimming at an alarming rate and abruptly popping out of the water to greet whoever is there. He doesn't mean to! He's just curious.

He only gives them a really bad scare and a heart attack

Ingo will join him on a floaty and act as a beacon because Emmet sometimes swims out too far.

Other marine pokemon point him in the right direction if he does get lost.

Other miscellaneous things:

It’s a common form of greeting between Electric types to shock each other. It’s their version of a handshake/hello.

Ingo’s built up a resistance to electricity thanks to Emmet, but sometimes it’s really shocking!

Emmet sometimes bumps into things because of his body.

They both can see in the dark, but Emmet can see perfectly underwater.

They both have fallen asleep levitating before.

Ingo doesn't have a house key because he can just go through the front door or wall or anything really.

Because of this, he has a habit of not opening doors

Ingo is actually wary of water because he's afraid his fire will go out but he toughs it out for Emmet because he loves him so much.

He can swim but it's still the fear of going too deep.

There is battling in this AU! Ingo and Emmet still run the Battle Subway with their team, The Top Depot Agents! (I'll show them sometime!)

MORE evidence that George Lucas wasn't involved in the Expanded Universe...

Almost a year ago, I wrote a verrry detailed post that explained just how little involvement Lucas had with the old Expanded Universe. There were 109 quotes used as sources, back then.

Recently, I came across 17 more so I figured I'd share:

George Lucas quotes:

So the above is him saying he doesn't actually get involved too deeply, that the EU stories were done outside his universe, that he didn't follow up on them and tried not to think of them.

We could stop right here. But let's keep going.

Quotes from other people:

People repeating that George was barely involved at all, that EU writers could pretty much write what they wanted beyond a few minor limitations, that EU stories weren't canon to the films:

Similar ideas from Lucasfilm's Leland Chee and Pablo Hidalgo. Chee, in particular states something that encapsulates the whole Lucas/EU dynamic: Lucas wasn't beholden to the EU, but the EU had to adapt to Lucas' story. By and large, it was a one-way relationship.

(note: I revised the prompts Hidalgo was responding so they're easier to consume, for the unrevised thread you can go on his Twitter page).

This next one is interesting, because it shows Lucas was indeed less uninvolved during the 90s, what with answering 'OK/Not OK' questionnaires and such... before he became too busy with the Prequels, The Clone Wars and revolutionizing the film industry.

Here's just a collection of Tim Truman interviews where he explains how he created the lore surrounding the Tuskens' and their way of life, A'Sharad Hett, and the backstory for Aurra Sing.

None of that lore came from Lucas (and you'll notice that Aurra Sing's EU backstory wasn't acknowledged in any way when she appeared in The Clone Wars, which Lucas did oversee).

Finally, here are Karen Traviss' statements regarding the reason she stepped away from Star Wars. It's interesting to look at this because it's a prime example of just how little the EU's lore factored into Lucas' creative decision:

This case is also interesting because it reinforces the fact that the narrative content of the EU didn't align with Lucas' intentions, as illustrated by what both Sam Witwer and Henry Gilroy had to say about Traviss' outlook on the Star Wars universe.

We also explored the subject in this post where we compare the rhetoric Lucas and Traviss use when referring to Dooku and Yoda.

BOTTOM LINE:

Just because the EU content came out while George Lucas was in charge does not mean that it aligned with his views on Star Wars. You can't use "Lucas owning the company" as an authority argument to validate the EU because:

It doesn't need validating, they're great stories.

He wasn't really involved in the development of those stories. He barely gave a crap.

The Black Knight and the Moon by Waid - AOS - pon farr fic will absolutely fuck you up. double read the warnings on this one bc it's not just sad it's EXTREMELY upsetting, intentionally extremely upsetting, but it's probably the best characterized AOS spirk fic and most realistic thought experiment i've ever read

Grief as a four-dimensional figure by Moreta1848 - mostly AOS with some TVH elements - everyone goes back in time to try and save vulcan. GREAT spock stuff in this one. i bonus rec most of this author's stuff actually (they have an au of earth being hit instead of vulcan in aos and tos intersex spock) - a lot of it is verrry long but i read as they update so the little pieces are fine.

Cosmic Fuck series by Gayle F - 1 2 3 4 - TOS - this is just straight smut, but it's VINTAGE smut, and also first fic to feature the famous vulcan double ridges. the last one is the first ever kirk/spock/bones (sorry i know you said spirk) so it's just full of historical relevance. sometimes the smut gets a little weird (the first fic is technically a dubcon situation because of pon farr and in the last fic they get off on a tangent about toe-sucking) and since it's not tagged you do have to go in a little blind. i've only read the middle two once and don't remember them well (so i can't help you out with warnings) but i reread the last one alllll the time. it's a really refreshing writing voice and feels so different from fanfic today wrt to how it talks about sexuality. the final fic (SORRY AGAIN) stands well on its own and is actually my fav TOS fic of all time <3

Number one Community Gardens

I feel like this song represents the idea of loving or caring for each other no matter how bleak it may seem, or how terrible the other is. hey're both horrible people, like in the very first line in the song, but they still found solace in each other because they don't care about their horrible traits. Also verse two is just giving me so many Jojo refs.. "The culimation of man's mistakes" is like when Kira got found out, and "For arrogance and a false sense of immunity" is literally Diavolo. The very last line in verse two also says "Is to face the wrath of a dying star".. BECAUSE LIKE JOESTAR. AHSCJJX.

Number two Rule #18 -Lion

If I would have to give this one a perspective I would say it's Kira's. The song gives the idea of someone so radiant, the other feels overshadowed, yet they still want more and more of the other. I feel like Kira, a man who finds himself to be so "average" (as he says) would feel that everytime he's with Diavolo. Also the song has a lot of repetition, which could be like Kira's schedule which always faces repeats over and over again. "Do you find I always come back with the same old lines" adds to this. I think that after meeting Diavolo he tends to get out of his habits more and more, which is also a theme of the song. Also heheh the line "Where'd you get the energy to be that spicy? You've got a flavor that's so feisty, one bite satisfies" is so them.

Number three All Dolled Up

I really don't support the Orion Expereience, but this song is sooo themmm urggghhhh. There's a lot I would like to say but I'm pretty sure the lyrics verrry self explanatory. "I don't wanna be a boy, I don't wanna be a girl", "Let's be gay, let's do crimes", "They can't control us, they don't define us. We never did belong".. Its peak. I will end it off here.

Although this is less headcan-y I love any idea of Kira and Diavolo having a one night stand or short relationship, when actually yearning for each other afterwards. Also I can say a Jojo reference because stand users attract like magnets to each other so that would explain why they would end up meeting again.

I don't think the actual song meaning itself is really them. Mostly I like to imagine angsty ass storyboards of them to this. Also there's this one line "And I found hope in a heart attack" reminds me a little of that one fanfic Stand Royalty on ao3 like how Diavolo literally finds hope in death to see a certain someone. Yeah that's it.

Haha furry music.. It's okay though because Kira is a furry. I think this song could be like Diavolo trying his best to satisfy Kira's needs because, well, you know how he is. You jump when the warden in front of you rap says Clawed hands around your legs pushing them open, only took growl in frustration when something else blocked. he forgot the useless Rags humans wear. he kept your legs spread with one hand has his claws dig into the leather tearing them with one tug.

But nothing else in his way all he felt was more heat but that's sweet smell was Stronger now beckoning him... To taste.

You heard sickening cracks coming from the monster in front of you his face splitting as his frown seem to get bigger his jaw unhinging revealing multiple long appendages slithering from his mouth. your whimpers turn into panic sobs which made the warden behind you purr in delight.

Your moans was a completely new song to your captors. the melody coming from your mouth was sort of hypnotic in a way, addicing made them want to listen more and more, made them want to give you more and more. your melodies seems similar in some way.

It wasn't before long when you moaned again this time arching your back you're cum flooding the warden's mouth.

Your scent, your taste, your noises, hitting him all that once. that's when he realized why you in particular caught their interest, the reason why your sweet scent and Angelic voice attracts them.

Mate

They'll just be like humans and maybe you'll be more comfortable, human actually uses their names human actually use their names right do maybe... the Sideburn tentacle things light up transferring his idea to his brothers which begin to light up as well.

"I'm Ingo" the frowning warden sayes before nudging to his brother " this is emmet"

Wardens don't have names they don't need them but for you, these names will be just fine.

"Im Emmet!" The Smiling one says

"Now that you know everything about us, we still want to know everything about you~” ingo purrs"

" as you have noticed we cannot see verrrry well,but we can be verrry sensitive to touch, and scent, and taste," emmet states his sharp claws brushing through your hair.

" my brother has already tasted you and I want to feel you"

Your eyes catch something glowing looking in horror as you see something begin to grow between his legs. apart in his carapace that seemed softer than the rest. and something seem to have started to protrude from a slit in that part of his body. it's soft skin twinkling like stars, the appendages yes two of them looked big thick, hard, also flexible like tentacles.

Looking at them scared you. you yelped when Emmet dragged you closer feeling the cold slimy appendages grind against your entrance.

" we want to know everything about you, inside and out, you'll make plenty of nice noses for us won't you dear?"

Monster Hunter would probably be the easiest and most dramatic way to implement. He would absolutely try to pet a Zinogre and want a Khezu or Lagiacrus as a pet (reminds him of his ace)

Hilariously if Emmet still has his team, he has to constantly explain that these particular "monsters" are his teammates/friends and not part fodder. Or be hounded by hunters wanting to know "how did you train that?!" when seeing Emment happily feeding his human-sized spider and lamprey.

Emmet constantly gets into trouble for trying to befriend certain monsters.

Elder Dragon Kirin: *appears with a thunderstorm at its hoof-beats* Emmet: "That's a verrry fine-looking Rapidash right there! I wonder if I can gain it's trust to ride it!" Plot Twist: he could not.

He probably does befriend some weird creatures simply because he approaches them calmly.

Emmet becomes the Monster Hunter-verses version of Steve Irwin or Coyote Peterson in his travels to A: Figure out where tf his brother is, and B: Try and work around the issues of designing an underground train system in a world with burrowing dragons.
