Ah jeez, that was one hell of a day for that guy.
Yes and no. Where do I even being...
Okay. So this place up in Greenland called, uh... I'm gonna butcher this so bad, Hjeilhornhentrotnenheim, has an engineering museum, right? Right, and the guy in charge, his name is, ah fuck this is gonna be bad too ..., Hansinguaq Bjerresvontsgaardsen (I'm just gonna call him Hans from now on because uh yeah, no), collects all the things not fit for display in his personal transport ship. He's essentially converted it into his private mobile museum.
Not long after we established diplomatic channels and preliminary trade routes, Hans eagerly went off on his own to visit Alien equivalents to museums and such. Spent a solid three weeks traveling, sight-seeing, and adding things to his collection.
During a stop on the outer reaches of Coalition space his computer blue screened and forcibly shut down the reactor and pretty much wiped his communication array address book among other less relevant components. And no, I have no clue why he went so far out. He's 46, midlife crisis is my guess, telling him to go out on daring adventures or whatever. Anyway, he couldn't restart the fusion reactor while the inhibitor rod chambers were open, they open and shoot out the star canceler in an emergency shutdown, but one was stuck with the rod half-way in, so Hans had to manually open the reactor and fix it by hand.
Problem is, his transport ship, the Veritable Greenhorn, is fairly big, and the reactor's outer diameter was about 37 meters. Even in zero-g that's a lot of mass for one person to move, not to mention how much force you'd need to pry out a hyper dense metal alloy rod from a gate meant to withstand the pressure of a star right next to it. But he did have a lot mechanical power at his disposal, it just needed to be... rearranged.
Now, he did have backup generators that quietly hum in the background like on every Human vessel, but these are passive and nowhere near enough to charge the hyperdrive even if he could tell it where to go, let alone power machinery to counter a thousand ton jammed deadbolt. He needed something that had a kick to it, something you could really rev beyond its limits just long enough. He needed his V6s and V8s.
After almost two days of DIY engineering details I won't bore you with because I fell asleep when he explained them himself, Hans fired up the engines. It was a very tedious five hours of the engines rythmically tugging the deadbolt a tenth of a milimeter open and what is basically a massive jackhammer pummeling the rod back in. At one point he ran out of gas and was forced to sacrifice his alcohol collection.
Suffice to say it barely worked, all of the machinery he cobbled together became practically unusable, but it worked and he was able to restart the fusion reactor.
Oh, he didn't come home or anything by the way. Like I guess, midlife crisis. If anything, success has made him think nothing can get in the way of his Galactic exploration quest.
So that's the story. No, he didn't use combustion engines to start the reactor or anything, but lacking any other means to fix a problem I honestly didn't know could happen, the petrol guzzlers gave him the right kind of horsepower.
By the way, if you get a chance to tour the Veritable Greenhorn, I'd recommend it. I can't even begin to describe how that contraption looks, it's one of the main displays. I guarantee it's the most specific purpose built and rough pieces of Human engineering you will ever see.

Alfa Romeo GTV 2.0 V6 Turbo : une icĂŽne intemporelle dans l'Ă©crin de VĂ©rone

Rouge Ă©clatant, lignes sculptĂ©es et un V6 sous le capot : la Lancia GTV 2.0 V6 Turbo est bien plus qu’une voiture, c’est une Ɠuvre d’art mĂ©canique. DĂ©couverte au Salon de GenĂšve en 1995, cette Ă©lĂ©gante sportive a fait battre le cƓur des passionnĂ©s d’Alfa Romeo Ă  une Ă©poque oĂč la marque renaissait sous l’égide du groupe Fiat. Aujourd’hui, cette GTV, bichonnĂ©e par un collectionneur passionnĂ©, traverse les rues historiques de VĂ©rone avec une grĂące intemporelle, rappelant l’ñge d’or de l’automobile italienne.
Une quĂȘte de six ans pour une perle rare
Giovanni Farina, alfiste invĂ©tĂ©rĂ©, a passĂ© six longues annĂ©es Ă  chercher la GTV parfaite pour complĂ©ter sa collection. RĂ©sidant Ă  VĂ©rone, il est tombĂ© sur ce joyau : une GTV 2.0 V6 Turbo immatriculĂ©e en 1996, arborant une peinture rouge pastelle et affichant seulement 33 000 kilomĂštres au compteur. Issue d’une concession Alfa Romeo, cette voiture est restĂ©e dans un Ă©tat exceptionnel, presque comme neuve. Depuis son acquisition en 2018, Farina l’a soigneusement prĂ©servĂ©e, ne parcourant que quelques kilomĂštres pour maintenir son Ă©clat.

Sous le capot : un chef-d’Ɠuvre technique
Le cƓur de cette GTV est son moteur V6 Turbo de 2 litres, une merveille d’ingĂ©nierie Alfa Romeo. Avec ses 200 chevaux, il offre une puissance progressive et raffinĂ©e, caractĂ©ristique des grands moteurs de la marque. InstallĂ© transversalement, il occupe chaque centimĂštre sous le capot, tĂ©moignant de l’audace technique de l’époque. Ce moteur se distingue par sa rĂ©activitĂ© et son Ă©lasticitĂ©, procurant une conduite dynamique tout en restant confortable, mĂȘme Ă  bas rĂ©gime.

Une expérience de conduite unique
La GTV sĂ©duit par ses sensations de conduite immersives. La position basse, les jambes lĂ©gĂšrement Ă©tendues et les instruments nichĂ©s dans un tableau de bord en forme de "cannocchiale" transportent instantanĂ©ment dans l’univers des grandes sportives italiennes. Farina souligne que cette version turbo est plus vive et plus plaisante que le modĂšle 3.0 V6, offrant une puissance immĂ©diate et une aisance en conduite urbaine comme sur route sinueuse.
Malgré ses 30 ans, la GTV conserve une agilité remarquable grùce à son chùssis bien équilibré et son systÚme de suspension arriÚre multilink. Ses commandes robustes, bien que légÚrement fermes, renforcent le lien entre le conducteur et la machine, un aspect essentiel pour les amateurs de sensations authentiques.

Un design intemporel dans un cadre historique
Le service photo rĂ©alisĂ© dans la ville de VĂ©rone met en valeur l’élĂ©gance de la GTV. Devant la basilique de San Zeno Maggiore ou avec Castelvecchio en toile de fond, cette Alfa Romeo semble parfaitement Ă  sa place. Ses lignes en coin, signĂ©es Pininfarina, et sa teinte rouge Ă©clatante rappellent que lïżœïżœItalie est autant le berceau de l’art que de l’automobile.

Un hommage à une époque révolue
Avec seulement 33 000 kilomĂštres et un entretien mĂ©ticuleux, cette GTV est une vĂ©ritable capsule temporelle, incarnant l’esprit d’une Ă©poque oĂč Alfa Romeo redĂ©finissait l’élĂ©gance et la sportivitĂ©. Aujourd’hui, elle ne se contente pas de rappeler le passĂ© : elle continue d’inspirer les passionnĂ©s et de susciter l’admiration.

Je suis de retour! En effet, aprĂšs un superbe temps des FĂȘtes, j’aurais bien voulu revenir Ă  mon blogue plus vite  mais les Ă©vĂšnements se sont bousculĂ©s. Évidemment, le Salon de l’auto de MontrĂ©al est arrivĂ© plus vite que prĂ©vu ce qui m’a demandĂ© du temps de prĂ©paration
puis d’autres obligations se sont greffĂ©es
mais, vous savez ce dont je parle. Le retour du temps des FĂȘtes, quoi!
MalgrĂ© tout, j’ai pris le temps d’aller chercher une camionnette Honda Ridgeline dans sa finition Trailsport assez Ă©laborĂ©e pour mes impressions de conduite hebdomadaires. Tiens! Je suis persuadĂ© que vous vous posez une question qui est la mĂȘme que la mienne. Le Ridgeline est-il plus un VUS ou un petit pick-up ? Voici mon petit grain de sel...

Au dĂ©part, il faut comprendre que Honda n’a pas nĂ©cessairement voulu suivre la philosophie de ses concurrents avec le Ridgeline. Je me souviens trĂšs bien qu’au lancement du modĂšle en 2005 ou 2006 Ă  San Diego en Californie, les gens de Honda voulaient crĂ©er une sorte d’hybride plus axĂ© vers l’usage personnel que vers l’utilisation commerciale. Cependant, le constructeur japonais n’a rien nĂ©gligĂ© en matiĂšre de rigiditĂ© lui ajoutant une sorte de chĂąssis contournant la plateforme d’origine quand mĂȘme dĂ©jĂ  robuste. Techniquement, le Ridgeline partage la majeure partie de ses Ă©lĂ©ments mĂ©caniques avec le VUS Pilot et la fourgonnette Odyssey.

Dans le cas de la version Trailsport dont il est question ici, Honda a ajoutĂ© au Ridgeline des teintes plus contrastantes, une calandre unique, des roues et pneus plus robustes et quelques autres petits dĂ©tails spĂ©cifiques Ă  la marque incluant une peinture optionnelle de couleur bleu ciel.  Honda ne propose qu’une seule version de sa camionnette soit un vĂ©hicule Ă  quatre portes Ă  cinq places avec caisse arriĂšre de 5,3 pieds (comme celle de la concurrence). À noter, par contre, l’espace du plancher entre les puits d’aile des Ridgeline est de 50 pouces ce qui permet d’y glisser un contreplaquĂ© de 4 x 8 Ă  plat ce qui n’est pas offert par la concurrence (mĂȘme pas par les Ranger ou Colorado) sauf pour les F-150, Silverado/Sierra et Ram de plus grande dimension!

Sous le capot se trouve le mĂȘme V6 SACT de 3,5 litres que l’on peut voir sous le capot des Pilot et Odyssey. Il fait 280 chevaux et 262 li-pi de couple mais il ne peut venir qu’avec une boĂźte automatique Ă  neuf rapports et la traction intĂ©grale. La version Trailsport est livrĂ©e avec des pneus General Grabber 245/60 R-18 pour des excursions hors-route lĂ©gĂšres alors que le freinage Ă  quatre disques complĂšte une fiche technique qui spĂ©cifie une suspension Ă  jambes de force MacPherson Ă  l’avant et des bras tirĂ©s Ă  l’arriĂšre (mon vĂ©hicule d’essai Ă©tait chaussĂ© de pneus d’hiver Michelin Ice Snow SUV). La caisse peut transporter jusqu’à 1600 livres mais la capacitĂ© de traction du vĂ©hicule est de 5000 livres ce qui est de 2000 Ă  2500 livres de moins que les Colorado/Canyon et Ranger (le Maverick n’affiche que 4000 livres mais le vĂ©hicule est plus petit!). Le poids total du Ridgeline oscille autour des 4500 livres.

L’intĂ©rieur de ce Honda est intĂ©ressant. Il n’est peut-ĂȘtre pas flamboyant mais il est pratique. Le tableau de bord est simple mais bien amĂ©nagĂ© avec la majoritĂ© des instruments faciles Ă  lire. Vous noterez l’absence d’un levier de vitesse celui-ci Ă©tant remplacĂ© par des commandes Ă©lectriques digitales (manipulĂ©es par la pression d’un doigt) Ă  la console. Petit dĂ©tail amusant mais trĂšs utile (selon moi), le frein de stationnement n’est pas Ă©lectronique mais manuel Ă©tant activĂ© par le pied ! Étant destinĂ© Ă  quatre passagers, il y a quand mĂȘme de la place pour trois personnes Ă  l’arriĂšre. Et le coussin de la banquette (divisible) peut se relever pour le transport de certains objets encombrants (comme un vĂ©lo de montagne, par exemple). Vu qu’il s’agit ici d’une carrosserie monocoque (« hardbody » avec une sĂ©paration visuelle mais fausse d’avec la caisse), il n’y a pas de partition amovible entre l’habitacle et la caisse.

En parlant de cette caisse de 5,3 pieds, rappelons que son plancher (en composite) accepte le traditionnel panneau de contreplaquĂ© de 4 x 8 Ă  plat entre les passages de roue. On accĂšde Ă  cette caisse par le panneau arriĂšre qui peut s’abattre Ă  plat ou s’ouvrir comme une porte. Les Ridgeline ont toujours eu un coffre verrouillable et bien Ă©tanche dans le plancher arriĂšre de la caisse ! De plus, si l’on veut transporter certains objets plus longs mais moins larges, l’utilisateur peut toujours ouvrir la petite fenĂȘtre de la lunette arriĂšre (une option disponible qu’avec les deux versions les plus coĂ»teuses) pour ce faire.

Sur la route
et mĂȘme hors-route !
Le Ridgeline est un vĂ©hicule trĂšs amusant Ă  conduire, comme tout Honda. Ses performances sont respectables (avec un 0-100 km/h en quelque sept secondes) sans ĂȘtre Ă©clatantes. Mais sa conduite, sa tenue de route et son comportement routier sont Ă  la hauteur des attentes des amateurs de Honda! Beaucoup plus que chez la concurrence ! La suspension n’est pas trop ferme mais, ne vous en faites pas. MĂȘme si ce n’est pas le vĂ©hicule hors-route par excellence (ici, la concurrence peut sembler y avoir tout un avantage), j’ai dĂ©jĂ  rĂ©ussi des manƓuvres assez difficiles avec un Ridgeline! Malheureusement, je le rĂ©pĂšte, la capacitĂ© de remorquage du Ridgeline est plutĂŽt limitĂ©e comparativement Ă  la concurrence. Toutefois, pour la majoritĂ© des automobilistes, elle est suffisante. Qui plus est, avec son apparence plus modĂ©rĂ©e et u seuil de porte moins Ă©levĂ©, le Ridgeline fait plus VUS que pick-up pour un usage quotidien !
Question consommation, si vous croyez que, parce que c’est un Honda, il ne consommera pas (une remarque qui m’a si souvent Ă©tĂ© passĂ©e durant ma semaine d’essai!), sachez que durant une pĂ©riode hivernale modĂ©rĂ©e, je n’ai pu faire mieux que 15,8 l./100 km (semblable Ă  ce que l’ordinateur de bord m’indiquait) soit l’équivalent de ce que me donnent les pick-up intermĂ©diaires de la concurrence me donnent. Et ce, malgrĂ© la fonction Econo activĂ©e par un bouton au tableau de bord
Un peu déçu

Enfin, le prix de ce beau pick-up est vraiment concurrentiel. Incluant l’option Trailsport, Honda annonce ce Ridgeline Ă  57 112 $. Il faut alors ajouter 2112,50 $ pour le transport et la prĂ©paration en plus des taxes locales et ainsi de suite. Donc, si vous ĂȘtes Ă  la recherche d’un pick-up intermĂ©diaire dont le comportement routier et la conduite sont des plus agrĂ©ables, ajoutez donc le Ridgeline Ă  votre liste de recherche. Vous allez peut-ĂȘtre paraĂźtre moins « macho » au volant de ce vĂ©hicule qu’au volant d’un des monstres un peu plus brutes de la concurrence mais en revanche, vous allez vivre avec un vĂ©hicule plus civilisĂ© qui vous offrira des possibilitĂ©s inattendues!
Le Salon de l’auto de MontrĂ©al, toujours aussi captivant!
J’ai dĂ©jĂ  eu l’opportunitĂ© de visiter le Salon de l’auto de MontrĂ©al (sauf la section des autos modifiĂ©es), version 2025 et, malgrĂ© le fait que j’ai beaucoup d’information et de divertissement sur le sujet Ă  longueur de journĂ©e, je ne peux que vous inciter Ă  y aller de vous-mĂȘme! Le Salon qui se dĂ©roule toute la semaine (jusqu’à dimanche prochain) au Centre des CongrĂšs de MontrĂ©al vaut, encore une fois, le dĂ©placement, croyez-moi. J’y retournerai certes cette semaine car il y a de l’information que je n’ai pas pu glaner lors de la journĂ©e de la prĂ©sentation de la presse spĂ©cialisĂ©e. Toutefois, puis-je vous suggĂ©rer d’y aller par mĂ©tro? La circulation en ville, c’est l’enfer. Puis, il y a le prix trĂšs Ă©levĂ© du stationnement
Mais, j'y reviendrai la semaine prochaine...

Enfin, sachez que, malgrĂ© certains plans que j’avais Ă©laborĂ©, je ne me suis pas rendu au Salon de l’auto de Detroit qui a ouvert quelques jours avant celui de MontrĂ©al. La raison? Ce n’est plus le North American International Auto Show. Donc, plus de prototypes, plus de grands stands avec des prĂ©sentations internationales. Detroit n’est pas plus important que MontrĂ©al maintenant

Les rencontres vélo IDF
Compte-rendu (tout à fait subjectif) des rencontres vélos IDF du 5 décembre 2024
La rencontre est ouverte par un hommage indispensable Ă  Paul Varry, cycliste tuĂ© par un automobiliste. On parlera beaucoup de violence motorisĂ©e et de violence routiĂšre. La volontĂ© est de s’engager pour le zĂ©ro mort et zĂ©ro blessĂ© grave.
CĂŽtĂ© politique, notons la nomination Ă  la rĂ©gion de Marianne Duranton, dĂ©lĂ©guĂ©e spĂ©ciale aux mobilitĂ©s durables, qui se dĂ©clare elle-mĂȘme cycliste, mais qui semble peu au fait des politiques vĂ©lo. Je note quelques perles : se plaint des difficultĂ©s de circulation Ă  Paris (en voiture sous entendu), dit aux collectivitĂ©s que c’est “vraiment du volontarisme” de dĂ©velopper des pistes cyclables (sous entendu, c’est un peu normal que ca traine, vu comment c’est la galĂšre / difficile, au lieu de parler des avantages). 
Louis Belenfant du Collectif VĂ©lo IDF parle de l’importance d’avoir de vraies pistes cyclables. (D’ailleurs, je rĂąle systĂ©matiquement en commission transports car rĂ©guliĂšrement la rĂ©gion finance des bandes cyclables, qui ne servent Ă  rien, voire qui servent d’alibi aux collectivitĂ©s territoriales paresseuses).
On nous annonce deux grandes priorités pour 2025 : accélérer les pistes cyclables du réseau vélo idf (VIF) et faire la signalétique et le jalonnement.
On n’arrivera pas aux 450 km souhaitĂ©s de la phase 1, Ce sera plutĂŽt 371 km dont des pistes provisoires. Mais on attend de belles pistes continues.
Idem le jalonnement : on attend 149 km du rĂ©seau avec la signalĂ©tique “VIF”.
CĂŽtĂ© signalĂ©tique, l’expĂ©rimentation du CEREMA montre que les panneaux verticaux ne sont pas jugĂ©s trĂšs utiles car personne ne comprend ce qu’est le VIF. c’est un peu le pĂ©chĂ© originel : les lignes du VIF ne correspondent pas Ă  grand-chose. Les projets prĂ©cĂ©dents s’appelaient MĂ©tropolitain et RER VĂ©lo et on avait une grande facilitĂ© et comprĂ©hension des lignes. La ligne 1 du VĂ©lopolitain jaune doublait la ligne 1 du mĂ©tro et la ligne B du RER VĂ©lo en bleu doublait la ligne B du RER. Les lignes du VIF sont inconnues et mĂȘme le chef de projet voirie de la rĂ©gion IDF s'emmĂȘle les pinceaux et confond la V6 et la V7. Alors le cycliste du quotidien 
 c’est pas gagnĂ©.
Le service Veligo s’amĂ©liore et s’amplifie, avec de nouveaux modĂšles de vĂ©lo et le doublement de la flotte. TrĂšs bonne nouvelle, pour un trĂšs bon service.

I’d been looking far too long for a car. Between checking Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist for “the perfect option”, and counting the cash in my coffers, I spent far too much time obsessing over the situation. I needed resolution—between the choice overload and my analysis paralysis, I would never decide on an option, but I desperately needed a car. 
Then, out of nowhere, the answer came. Okay, it wasn’t out of “nowhere”. I had been talking with my boss for a little while, trying to ask his advice on which car to buy, and talking about dream cars far beyond my feeble means, and otherwise spinning castles from cloudstuffs. He’d told me he’d “keep his eyes open for me” and it was those open eyes that spotted the prize. I say “prize” because it was a result, not because it was a glorious car. His son’s mother-in-law bought a brand-spankin’-new Jeep Grand Cherokee, and her old Kia Sportage was for sale.
I was disappointed when he told me about it. Here I was, asking for an Answer to my problem, and I didn’t like this answer. This car wasn’t “fun”. The only merits this Kia had were low mileage and regular, reliable upkeep. It was a bland, brown compact 4x4 SUV, not known to be particularly reliable. No spirit, no character, no hidden secrets. Nothing but a small engine on a set of wheels with enough space to carry four passengers and their luggage comfortably. My hot, red, young blood revolted. How could I choose this car? Where were the dreams now? What about my castles? 
However, I wanted to be mature. I needed a car, and I needed one now. I needed to buy something that would run for me, day in and day out, and not require a millionaire’s funds to keep it that way. Therefore, I needed a car from someone trustworthy, who wouldn’t hide problems from me, and I needed a price I could afford. The sensible parts of me started to see the Very Good Deals in this unromantic, uninteresting, unsurprising Kia. 
I hated it. I hated that I had to be “responsible” and “make a good decision”. I hated that I was beginning to see the world through this practical lens. After all, I was a kid! I should be having fun right? I shouldn’t have to make a “mature choice”, I should be allowed to have what I wanted without consequences! I didn’t want to be boring!
The more I thought it over, the more I saw that my excuses were little more than whining attempts to get My Way for the sake of it being My Way. I mustered what rational thought I could and left my doubts behind. Relying on my better judgment, I bought the car. 
I did try to put a good face on it. I was willing to try and see it for better than a junky pile of bolts. I was gracious to the woman who was selling it to me, and, since I brought my mother and older sister along to help me drive, I smiled and made the best of the car, no matter what I thought about it on the inside. I handed over my wad of cash with every regret possible to a boy. I doubted my decision, I doubted my life choices up to that point—I even doubted Romance itself. Nevertheless, I did buy the car. It was a car, and it was mine. The thought of ownership comforted me.
At first, the car was everything it had promised: basic, bland, and a little boring. However, I began to discover little details that made up for that. First, I had a lot of cargo room. Quite a bit more when I folded down the seats. Secondly, the car, if it was a bit bland, had some “get up and go” to it. It had a V6 engine and a Sport Mode that allowed for some sort of manual shifting. I came to appreciate the preppy little growl of the engine when I stepped on the throttle. The 4-wheel drive was handy on the ice and snow of the Northern Midwest winters, and the light interior didn’t heat up as much in the summer. Finally, I started to appreciate owning my own car. It was a degree of freedom that I hadn’t experienced before. I now had constant transportation to wherever I wanted to go—within reason. Of course, this got me into trouble with my parents quite a few times. I did break curfew, I was bad at communicating, and I did let the freedom go to my head quite a few times.
After a while, I thought about upgrading my car situation. When the pocketbook again revolted, I considered the merits of car mods and the relative benefits therein. I wasn’t exactly a full-fledged “car guy”, but I knew my way around an engine bay, and I did small maintenance jobs for all of our equipment. Eventually, I decided against it. I decided to look for high-octane excitement elsewhere and leave my Kia as it was.
I hadn’t dreamed of owning a Kia. I suppose few people do. I had my own ideas of what I had wanted, and what it may take me to get that. Nevertheless, I found myself satisfied with my car, even if I had shattered another rose-colored notion of a romance with my first ride. It was merely another part of the maturing process and another internal battle to win. My “choice” was merely cooperation with the opportunity as it arose, and there was freedom in that. My dreams would have to wait quite a while longer.

S’il y a quelque chose de difficile Ă  faire pour un chroniqueur d’automobiles, c’est de « couvrir » un vĂ©hicule qui n’allume pas nĂ©cessairement les passions. Et surtout, n’allez pas me traiter de « Toyota Basher » puisqu’il s’agit ici de la toute rĂ©cente Camry XLE.
Je l’avoue, la Toyota Camry ne soulĂšve pas nĂ©cessairement les passions mĂȘme si c’est toujours une des autos les plus vendues en AmĂ©rique du Nord, voire mĂȘme LA plus vendue! En fait, c’est plutĂŽt la faute des consommateurs si cette passion pour la marque a diminuĂ©, mĂȘme si la Camry n’est pas qu’une berline courante. C’est aussi une voiture « championne » en sĂ©rie de stock-car NASCAR! Oui, la Camry peut aussi ĂȘtre une auto sportive! Mais pour le consommateur moyen, c’est d’abord une berline fiable dont la rĂ©putation n’est plus Ă  faire. Mais comment considĂ©rer une berline alors que le marchĂ© est plutĂŽt axĂ© vers les VUS de tous gabarits?

en plein le genre d’auto qui devrait satisfaire la majoritĂ© des automobilistes quĂ©bĂ©cois (ou mĂȘme canadiens) pour toutes les saisons.

L’arriĂšre a aussi Ă©tĂ© revu alors que les designers de Toyota ont ni plus ni moins « adouci » les arĂȘtes de la carrosserie avec moins de fentes que dans le passĂ©. (Éric Descarries)
Notons, au dĂ©part, que la Camry a Ă©tĂ© « lĂ©gĂšrement » redessinĂ©e pour 2025 affichant un design avant et arriĂšre rĂ©visĂ© mais surtout un intĂ©rieur revu et une mĂ©canique simplifiĂ©e. Les amateurs de Toyota les plus aguerris auront distinguĂ© le redesign de l’avant de l’auto, surtout au niveau des calandres et une retouche Ă  l’arriĂšre (que je trouve plus Ă©lĂ©gant puisque les fentes verticales aux bouts des couvre-parechocs sont disparues). Le toit et les portiĂšres sont semblables Ă  ceux de l’annĂ©e derniĂšre ce qui nous indique que la structure de l’auto aura Ă©tĂ© reconduite.

Le tableau de bord redessinĂ© propose maintenant une instrumentation numĂ©rique de 7 pouces et un centre d’infodivertissement dont l’écran peut faire jusqu’à 12,3 pouces. Sachez que Apple CarPlay et Android Auto sont de sĂ©rie. Et, sans qu’on le voie immĂ©diatement, les siĂšges autant avant qu’arriĂšre ont Ă©tĂ© revus pour plus de confort.

Quant au coffre arriĂšre, il est semblable Ă  ce qu’il ait toujours Ă©tĂ©. Il est amplement suffisant pour deux passagers en voyage ou pour le transport de petits objets. Cependant, il pourrait ĂȘtre plus grand

Toutefois, lĂ  oĂč la Camry 2025 diffĂšre, c’est sous le capot. En effet, il n’y a plus qu’un seul moteur au catalogue, soit le quatre cylindres Ă  essence DACT de 2,5 litres combinĂ© Ă  un systĂšme hybride Ă©lectrique devenu la spĂ©cialitĂ© de Toyota. En effet, vous avez bien lu, il n’y a plus de V6 disponible dans les Camry! Déçu? Faites l’essai du mĂȘme vĂ©hicule avec le quatre hybride et vous comprendrez pourquoi le constructeur ne sent plus le besoin d’inclure le V6 au catalogue. Ses 232 chevaux (lĂ©gĂšrement moins puissant que l’ancien V6) suffisent quand mĂȘme amplement Ă  procurer toute la puissance voulue pour dĂ©placer la Camry. Incidemment, la boĂźte de vitesses est Ă  variation continue (CVT) et, avec la XLE, on n’obtient que la traction intĂ©grale (une configuration idĂ©ale pour les hivers quĂ©bĂ©cois!). Ma voiture d’essai Ă©tait Ă©quipĂ©e de pneus Bridgestone Turanza appropriĂ©s de dimension P235/45R18.

Sur la route
La Camry XLE (de production) n’est pas une voiture de course, ni une sportive ou une exotique. C’est, je le rĂ©pĂšte, une simple berline de tous les jours. Toutefois, ce qu’elle fait, elle le fait bien! Et elle le fait encore mieux vu qu’elle met en valeur le principe hybride Toyota qui est, Ă  mes yeux, le meilleur de l’industrie.
Les accĂ©lĂ©rations ne sont pas Ă©tincelantes (avec 0 Ă  100 km/h en quelque huit secondes) mais elles sont honnĂȘtes tout comme les reprises (mais ce ne sont pas les performances du V6!). La tenue de route n’est pas celle d’une voiture de sport mais la Camry est trĂšs stable alors que sa direction est prĂ©cise. J’aurais peut-ĂȘtre un peu Ă  redire sur le freinage que j’aurais aimĂ© plus puissant et plus convaincant quoiqu’il puisse paraĂźtre suffisant pour le conducteur rĂ©gulier.
Si la Camry hybride est des plus impressionnantes sur autoroute, c’est en ville qu’elle se distingue. MalgrĂ© qu’elle accuse un peu d’embonpoint quand vient le temps de la garer, son ensemble Ă©lectro-mĂ©canique est des plus convaincants pour les dĂ©placements urbains. Le moteur Ă©lectrique entre plus souvent qu’à son tour en action. Seule ombre au tableau, quand le moteur Ă  essence « embarque », on l’entend (un peu trop)! VoilĂ  un petit chapitre auquel les ingĂ©nieurs de Toyota devraient s’attarder, rendre cette interaction plus « transparente », plus discrĂšte.
En ce qui a trait Ă  la consommation, mon calcul Ă  la pompe s’est chiffrĂ© Ă  6,37 l./100 km alors qu’Énerguide estime cette mĂȘme consommation Ă  5,4 l./100 km. Il faut spĂ©cifier ici que la majoritĂ© de mes dĂ©placements s’est faite en conditions urbaines. Cette Camry doit faire face Ă  une concurrence assez vive, soit les Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata, Nissan Altima, Kia K5 et Subaru Legacy de ce monde auxquels j’ajouterais les Chevrolet Malibu
.en autant que ce vĂ©hicule continuera d’ĂȘtre offert! Mon vĂ©hicule d’essai affichait un prix de base de 44 950 $ auquel il fallait ajouter 1,08 $ d’Écofrais pour les filtres, 22,50 $ d’Écofrais pour l’huile, 100,00$ de taxe d’accise fĂ©dĂ©rale pour le climatiseur (qui, je le souligne existe depuis le milieu des annĂ©es soixante-dix et qui n’a jamais Ă©tĂ© rĂ©visĂ©), 12,50 $ de frais OMVIC et 1860 $ de frais de transport. Le grand total sera alors de 46 946 $ (plus taxes)!
Ma conclusion finale? J’aurais de la difficultĂ© Ă  ne pas conseiller la Camry Ă  celui ou celle qui recherche une berline fiable et intĂ©ressante pour ses dĂ©placements de tous les jours. De lĂ  Ă  en faire un objet de convoitise
il y a une marge. Qu’importe, la Camry reprĂ©sente, ne serait-ce que par sa fiabilitĂ© et son excellente rĂ©putation, un excellent choix
si c’est une berline que l’on recherche!

OK, c’est le temps! Le temps de passer aux pneus d’hiver. J’aimerais bien aider les lecteurs de ce blogue dans leurs recherches s’ils sont « dans le marché » pour des pneus d’hiver. Mais c’est le temps et l’espace qui me manque ici. Toutefois, puis-je vous suggĂ©rer de consulter le site internet Auto123.com  oĂč j’ai publiĂ© (en français et en anglais) un dossier trĂšs complet sur les pneus d’hiver que l’on peut trouver sur notre marchĂ© cette annĂ©e. J’y traite des pneus d’hiver courants (tant de haute qualitĂ© que plus « abordables ») que des pneus dits « homologuĂ©s » ou conçus pour les vĂ©hicules Ă©lectriques que des pneus pour camionnettes de tout genre.
Depuis des annĂ©es que je traite et que j’analyse les produits de ce marchĂ©, depuis tout rĂ©cemment, je m’attarde aux pneus dits « homologuĂ©s », c’est-Ă -dire des pneus bons autant pour l’hiver que l’étĂ©. D’ailleurs j’utilise des Michelin Cross-Climate 2 de cette technologie sur ma propre Lincoln MKZ depuis plus de deux ans et des Nokian Outpost aussi « homologuĂ©s » sur ma Jeep Wrangler alors que je suis de prĂšs l’évolution de Nokian WR G4 (maintenant remplacĂ©s par les WR G5) sur la Mercedes C de mon frĂšre et les Hankook Kinergy H4S sur la Suzuki de ma belle-sƓur. Jusqu’ici, les rĂ©sultats sont des plus Ă©tonnants. Qui plus est, pas besoin de les changer aux deux saisons!
