Just pictured my OC Lia being yelled at by her dad and him calling her by her full name (Amelia). And her friends just being like, "shit! He broke out the government name!"

Something im curious about (and you by no means have to answer), have you ever had bad reactions for being In The Know? Ive seen people who also know their identities say theyve received threats from others, and ive seen various things said to people in spaces where identities are talked about calling them bad people or other awful things. If im gonna be honest, I myself feel anxious at times that I might be one of the "bad fans" for the ways i approach the anonymity personally or approach the band in general, but i wont get into all that rn. From what ive seen youre respected here, but im curious
If Iām being 100% honest I created this blog fully expecting to get hate and harassment. I think because Iāve always respected the bandās anonymity publicly, it hasnāt been an issue? Then again I know some people who arenāt even running Sleep Token blogs that have been harassed simply for knowing identities. It's so strange to me because I'm over here with a steady stream of people asking me questions in DMs or just having casual discussions about the guys while the people getting harassed are just trying to stay in their own lanes.
People have talked shit before about a certain fan space Iām a part of, but never about me directly, so itās easily ignored. Worst in that aspect isnāt even an interaction, but Iām blocked by the Instagram STMeme account somehow. Literally never heard of that account until another person realized they were blocked and then the whole group found out š
Funnily enough the worst interactions Iāve had have come from being mistaken for a prominent figure in the identity side of the fandom, including interactions directly with that same person.
Anon, in regards to what you said about being anxious if you're a bad fan or not: as long as you're not publicly revealing identities, telling people who don't want to know, or unjustly getting upset at people who do know but are minding their own business, you're fine. The anxiety alone should be enough to tell you that you aren't one of those people š¤
For the record I am not Corey, [First Name][LastName]Archive, Sidium, Burning Cathedrals, .under.world., or whatever other usernames theyāre using now.
#anon asks#sleepanon answers#sleepanon rant#st fandom version#didn't want to put this in the actual post but#shout out to the one time one of the guys used my government name instead of screen name to address me#that wasn't a negative interaction but still terrified me#i was perceived and decided i would never be perceived again lmao#talk about a dodged icarus complex lmao#back to this post:#a lot more people know than the fandom thinks#in all honesty there are probably tons of more ācasualā fans who know and aren't even aware of the discourse#anytime i talk to my partner about it he's always confused#āthese people just pretend not to know? whats the point?ā

hahahahahaha I hate it here.
Danielle Smith: I donāt want young kids to permanently change their bodies!
Danielle Smith: So they wonāt be allowed to use puberty blockers, the effects of which are basically entirely reversible, until theyāre fifteen, which is well into puberty and often towards the end of puberty for AFAB kids!
Danielle Smith: this makes sense and I am so smart! This will not have the effect of making trans youth even more vulnerable than they already are and that definitely wasnāt my intention.
#I like that we think alienating young trans kids from supportive teachers#who have the potential to be life changing and life saving#is a good way of going about this#i never thought i would say this but fucking hell i miss jason kenney#at least that man didnāt spend every second of his day wondering how he could beat capter to the furthest right individuals in the province#which seems like what danielle smith is doing#imagine if she focused her energy on something useful like housing#or the opioid epidemic#instead she focuses 100% of her time and effort on two (2) things#1- catering to the far right usually by fucking with queer people#2- hating the federal government and calling the liberals mean names#abpoli#cdnpoli#alberta#trans rights problems

One of the elders being named saturn, and the fact that it's confirmed that one of the ancient weapons is a living person along with their planet names, I wonder if the ancient "weapons" were all living people/beings and if the three either defected or was a part of the same group as the elders way back?

I technically work for the government under the Department of Ecology. That's like the furthest up the chain, so it's very possible it was a coordinator or someone much lower that did this. Either way, I'm obsessed with the choice some government worker made to send us all out paperwork, but instead of typing in our names like usual, we have to pick out our name from a list of ~350 people. Like... why. Who thought of this. If there was someone I hated I could just say I'm them and try to get the deployed for 30 days. Did no one think this was a security issue??
#ecology#idk what else to tag this without specifically outing my work tbh#people who come up with stupid ideas like this are running the government and that's why it doesn't work well#i'm sure this makes it easier for SOMEONE maybe but it cannot be harder to have us write our names instead#unless something else is failing

As is tradition we held our annual "Batshit Aussie Moment of The Year" poll on twitter this month, and as is also tradition it was a complete dumpster fire and we ended up having to delete our account again. Such is life, as the French don't say.
Nevertheless we had a lot of great nominations from what was truly a year full of the utmost topshelf batshittery which we shan't be letting go to waste. So we preset:
Batshit Aussie Moments of The Year, The Now Undemocratic Countdown
Leading the nominations there was of course Raygun, the little Aussie PHD breakdancer that couldn't. Recently she has trademarked her name and there was a whole lawsuit around using it so no further comment on that.
Dr Ray was followed close in second place by Australia's former Deputy Prime Minister being filmed drunkenly making phonecalls while sprawled across a sidewalk.
This glorious video saw the good people of Australia rise to the occasion with all the pisstaking the moment deserved, complete with chalk crime scene markings, a plaque being installed, and a candlelight vigil held by locals.
Also making a strong showing in the polls was Australia's richest woman Gina Rinehart pulling a Barb Streisand by demanding her unflattering portrait be removed from Australia's National Art Gallery, which of course made it immediately go viral.
Lol. Also noteworthy in the nominations was the horse that escaped its enclosure and tried to flee by catching a train, making national news headlines in the process.
But for all those big names/horses who we're sure would love the limelight, the crown title of this year's Batshit Aussie Moment of The Year is being awarded to a regular everyday Aussie (and tumblr user) who fought the system and (almost) won:
After 23 year old Aussie racecar driver Oscar Piastri won the Hungarian Grand Prix, our very own @the-prophesied-mouse "jokingly submitted an eāpetition" to Australia's parliament asking that the day become a public holiday, "assuming it would get thrown out".
Instead their request for a yearly national "Oscar Piastri Day" crossed the threshold of signatures required for a response, being then escalated all the way to the Prime Minister's desk after the responding minister decided it was of utmost importance.
After being sternly considered by no less than three government ministers, sadly in November it was declared that the petition would not be ratified, due to the small issue of the federal government not having the power to create holidays (it's apparently a state thing).
The government did however point out that many national days are celebrated without official proclamation from the Australian government, and so it is, with the powers vested in us by all you loveable weirdos, that we do solemnly declare from this day forth that the 21st July shall be forever known as Oscar Piastri Day, and may all non-believers fear our wrath.
Anyway, happy new year to you all from us here in Aus. Farewell to a truly Batshit year, and here's to no doubt more of the same in 2025. We will leave you with this heartfelt reminder of a true national treasure we lost this year, the progenor of perhaps the most iconic Aussie batshit moment of all time, The Right Hon. Mr Democracy Manifest:
Happy new years to youze all!

not nearly enough people are fuming about the cass review. do you understand the eventual implications? trans people in the uk will be considered children up until the age of 25, and denied HRT/surgery/even basic measures like legal name change and social transition. all owing to a biased and largely unscientific study. you know what ātreatmentā for gender dysphoria is recommended by the review instead? conversion therapy.
this will kill people and they know it, because they prefer us dead and out of sight. the government, the NHS and even the opposition have made this clear again and again. a twenty-five year old can have sex, get married have children, join the military, earn a living, be halfway up the corporate ladder or highly successful in their chosen career field by that age, but they canāt transition under NHS rules. this is a death sentence for trans teenagers and they are going ahead with it. itās trans genocide, same as across the pond.
iām so afraid for my trans siblings and our futures. iām so scared for myself. what are we to do if not even the party that is supposed to be on the āleftā gives a shit about our safety and mental health as long as they get voted in? labour have become tories with a red coat of paint. it all feels hopeless

"Two and a half years ago, when I was asked to help write the most authoritative report on climate change in the United States, I hesitated...
In the end, I said yes, but reluctantly. Frankly, I was sick of admonishing people about how bad things could get. Scientists have raised the alarm over and over again, and still the temperature rises. Extreme events like heat waves, floods and droughts are becoming more severe and frequent, exactly as we predicted they would. We were proved right. It didnāt seem to matter.
Our report, which was released on Tuesday, contains more dire warnings. There are plenty of new reasons for despair. Thanks to recent scientific advances, we can now link climate change to specific extreme weather disasters, and we have a better understanding of how the feedback loops in the climate system can make warming even worse. We can also now more confidently forecast catastrophic outcomes if global emissions continue on their current trajectory.
But to me, the most surprising new finding in the Fifth National Climate Assessment is this: There has been genuine progress, too.
Iām used to mind-boggling numbers, and there are many of them in this report. Human beings have put about 1.6 trillion tons of carbon in the atmosphere since the Industrial Revolution ā more than the weight of every living thing on Earth combined. But as we wrote the report, I learned other, even more mind-boggling numbers. In the last decade, the cost of wind energy has declined by 70 percent and solar has declined 90 percent. Renewables now make up 80 percent of new electricity generation capacity. Our countryās greenhouse gas emissions are falling, even as our G.D.P. and population grow.
In the report, we were tasked with projecting future climate change. We showed what the United States would look like if the world warms by 2 degrees Celsius. It wasnāt a pretty picture: more heat waves, more uncomfortably hot nights, more downpours, more droughts. If greenhouse emissions continue to rise, we could reach that point in the next couple of decades. If they fall a little, maybe we can stave it off until the middle of the century. But our findings also offered a glimmer of hope: If emissions fall dramatically, as the report suggested they could, we may never reach 2 degrees Celsius at all.
For the first time in my career, I felt something strange: optimism.
And that simple realization was enough to convince me that releasing yet another climate report was worthwhile.
Something has changed in the United States, and not just the climate. State, local and tribal governments all around the country have begun to take action. Some politicians now actually campaign on climate change, instead of ignoring or lying about it. Congress passed federal climate legislation ā something Iād long regarded as impossible ā in 2022 as we turned in the first draft.
[Note: She's talking about the Inflation Reduction Act and the Infrastructure Act, which despite the names were the two biggest climate packages passed in US history. And their passage in mid 2022 was a big turning point: that's when, for the first time in decades, a lot of scientists started looking at the numbers - esp the ones that would come from the IRA's funding - and said "Wait, holy shit, we have an actual chance."]
And while the report stresses the urgency of limiting warming to prevent terrible risks, it has a new message, too: We can do this. We now know how to make the dramatic emissions cuts weād need to limit warming, and itās very possible to do this in a way thatās sustainable, healthy and fair.
The conversation has moved on, and the role of scientists has changed. Weāre not just warning of danger anymore. Weāre showing the way to safety.
I was wrong about those previous reports: They did matter, after all. While climate scientists were warning the world of disaster, a small army of scientists, engineers, policymakers and others were getting to work. These first responders have helped move us toward our climate goals. Our warnings did their job.
To limit global warming, we need many more people to get on board... We need to reach those who havenāt yet been moved by our warnings. Iām not talking about the fossil fuel industry here; nor do I particularly care about winning over the small but noisy group of committed climate deniers. But I believe we can reach the many people whose eyes glaze over when they hear yet another dire warning or see another report like the one we just published.
The reason is that now, we have a better story to tell. The evidence is clear: Responding to climate change will not only create a better world for our children and grandchildren, but it will also make the world better for us right now.
Eliminating the sources of greenhouse gas emissions will make our air and water cleaner, our economy stronger and our quality of life better. It could save hundreds of thousands or even millions of lives across the country through air quality benefits alone. Using land more wisely can both limit climate change and protect biodiversity. Climate change most strongly affects communities that get a raw deal in our society: people with low incomes, people of color, children and the elderly. And climate action can be an opportunity to redress legacies of racism, neglect and injustice.
I could still tell you scary stories about a future ravaged by climate change, and theyād be true, at least on the trajectory weāre currently on. But itās also true that we have a once-in-human-history chance not only to prevent the worst effects but also to make the world better right now. It would be a shame to squander this opportunity. So I donāt just want to talk about the problems anymore. I want to talk about the solutions. Consider this your last warning from me."
-via New York Times. Opinion essay by leading climate scientist Kate Marvel. November 18, 2023.
