What is the most ridiculously uselessly ornamented weapon/armor you have seen?

I'm actually going to give a bit of an out-of-universe answer for this one, because some historical armors are too crazy not to share! A few of my favourites:

In European ts important to distinguish "combat armor", which tended to be simple and to the point with "parade armor", which is not. Tournament armor, specialized for Hastilude events like jousting, was somewhere in the middle, with special reinforced areas. Here's a good example of how ridiculous it gets, with the 16th C. armor of King Henri II of France:

Personally, I am fond of the masterwork "Greenwich Armor". In addition to its insane level of detail, its also blue. In a process called "Bluing" the steel is precisely oxidized to "dye" the armor a certain colour! So next time someone calls out your OC for heaving bright blue or red armor, these actually have some striking historical precedent!

I think the all-time winners though, are Iranian chain mail shirts. They often had intricate religious lettering on the rings, seen here using different metals...

While this one EVERY LINK is inscribed with a name of Allah or a short prayer!

And of course, no tour of insanely elaborate armor would be complete without checking in on our good friend and historical maniac Henry VIII of England, with his deranged "knight"mare fueled "Horned Helmet".

The historical armors of the world are pretty crazy, and the above are just a small selection of European and Near-Eastern varieties, not even touching on some of the equally insane armors from elsewhere, from the Japanese Kabuto (Ridiculously detailed and odd samurai helmets) to Chinese Paper Armor (Looks like a cosplay made out of post-it notes and office supplies) and the gorram amazing Kiribati Puffer Fish Armor, which looks like something out of a Flash Gordon comic. It is amazing and I wish more people would use it in their designs!

So, a little bit of a cop-out for not providing an Alvez specific answer, but unusual armor is a fascinating topic that far outshines anything I could come up with.

sorry I'm having thoughts because I haven't slept and when I don't sleep I have thoughts....................

I was thinking about Canon Suave Ganondorf again, and... I think what bothers me, beyond everything discussed, is that... it's not characterization? Like for example take Girahim, which I would argue is also a Sexy Villain. Him being a Sexy Villain is 1) a key factor of his presentation and double-edged creepiness, 2) has kind of a lot to do with his literal objectification and 3) is completely played as such, and Girahim himself has a lot of fun with his own theatrics. I don't mind Sexy Villains, they are a lot of fun and they can even be quite meaningful!

So I am not against Sexy Ganondorf by default. I feel like, if played honestly and not ashamed of its own conceit, it could be genuinely interesting! But I find kind of offputting that his sexualization happens almost exclusively extradiegetically. It's the camera leering, it's the clothes that, while really pretty and cool and interesting, do not actually inform us much about the character wearing them on screen, the behind-the-scenes tidbits that are just... not represented within the world of the game... And so, to me, where Girahim lands somewhere on the Bayonetta scale, TotK Ganon is kind of landing... I don't know, somewhere near "skimpy outfit worn by a character that would never wear something like this if given the choice, and the world doesn't ever question why she would and what that says about her"? I don't know if that makes sense, but, yeah. If you want him to seduce everyone, then. Do that. Make him active. Make him own that weird trait you decided to give him all of a sudden.

But again, given the game is deeply uninterested in Ganon as a person, but very interested as Ganon as an antagonistic object, it does end up feeling weirdly objectifying in that regard too.

When I'm not busy being legally cringe, I draw other things like um freaks made of spirit and metal, like ghosts and elementals inhabiting suits of different kinds of armor, just totally awesome animated armor friends, I loved cursed armor so much its such a cool concept like

souls without form inhabiting armor to maintain a shape in the corporeal world, just *le chef kissy*, so good

my mother has a weird fucking thing about names-even made up fantasy ones-being used for what sounds like "the wrong gender" and frequently whines about names being used for the "improper" gender. she once went on a 20 minute rant completely unprompted out of dead silence because she saw a flight rising dragon named "trojan" that happened to be a female guardian, during which she said (entirely unironically) among other things that the person who named that dragon should be legally barred from having children. she refuses to name her own characters and things in games entirely reasonable object words or nouns or mythology references very often because "it's not masculine feminine sounding enough i CAN'T name him/her that!"

Every single time i think of a fantasy name ending in "a" or "ia", i now deliberately give it to a male dragon just to piss her off.

It wasn't until after NG++ and S-Ranking all missions in Armored Core 6 that I realized you're supposed to stop trying to move the camera when using the lock-on mechanic.
