also discord uses markdown. kinda, it's pretty shit markdown but it is markdown. it's why you're able to *italicize* **bold** > block quotes and code blocks (tumblr doesnt let me put backticks?)

but theres also - unordered - list - with sub lists (two spaces before) - tumblr also has ordered lists but it auto formats that, but just adding "1. " or whatever number to the beginning of a line

i simply must talk about a game that consumed almost all of my weekend it’s called “in stars and time” & it’s the sickest shit ever (enamoured, entranced, obsessed) I can’t possibly mention all the things i have loved about this game so far & i don’t want to spoil it but here is a short list, unordered:

it’s in black & white & grey, which given the themes seems very apt. it’s also super striking & rly allows the use of patterns in the backgrounds of fight sequences, the shapes of enemies, to rly pop. it’s. so cool

the enemies are all fucked up little guys n im ALL ABOUT IT. they’re so weird they’re so cool

the pc & their companions are all SO good. their avatars are incredible, their expressions are pleasing to look at AND emotive, & time after time i am struck by how good the characterisation is

also, it’s a time loop

so in that spirit, the pc & their companions are all SO good. the conversations & information changes slightly as you go through the loops so u learn something new about your companions every few loops, or do something new that earns a comment, or find something that reveals that your companion LOVES that thing or hates it

the main character is. everything to me (avoidant little shit.)

the worldbuilding is SO cool !!!!

the actual gameplay is rly rly fun i have played it for about 20 hours now & I haven’t gotten sick of the fights yet. rock paper scissors. it makes sense.

all the skills u get through levelling up have pun names

I think Omi may be the character with the most on-screen trauma

He had so many actual traumatic events

Especially since Omi's also the youngest and least experienced with the world

He doesn't really have a reliable place to go to for comfort or to run away to if he needs space to process, so he's also the least able to cope whenever he's traumatized, so it's always unresolved

An incomplete, unordered list:

Watching Klofange sink under the water and refreeze right as Omi and Klofange became close, and being so catatonic with grief and confusion over it that Kimiko and Clay had to drag him away

Being betrayed by his first friend who he believed in and trusted more than anyone, and then learning that even when they all genuinely thought Omi was dead, that friend still didn't change his mind. And he still almost let them all to be crushed to death a little later

Later being gaslit and beat the shit out of by that same former friend to be tricked into thinking he was being betrayed again

Omi thinking he's finally found his family and a home, but they're a mean, uncaring old couple who steals from him and treats him horribly. And then he learns they aren't even real, so he went through desperately trying to appease abusive parents but still is lost with no family ties at the end of it

Omi thinking that he witnesses himself accidentally kill his own mother, who hates him so much she won't even take his hand to save her own life

Abandoned by his friends when he's sick and then kidnapped by Hannibal while Omi's left wandering around homeless, then about to be killed and turned into energy for Hannibal via lightning

Omi watching old Jack brutally murder all of the other monks right in front of him

Omi watching Chase drink the soup again even after everything Omi's been trying to do and was willing to sacrifice just to keep Chase on the Xiaolin side this time

Being convinced by Vlad to just. kill himself

He's just a little kid!

Love/Aggression by June Martin - contemporary surrealist trans fic! notably different than most of the other trans books on my shelf, lots of fun

Future Home of the Living God by Louise Erdrich - i was kind of on the fence of whether i LIKED this book, per se, but it made me feel a lot and reflect on my life and think about it for a while so i think it has to go on my top list

Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier - a classic for a reason! writing is exquisite. but you probably thought that already

The Default World by Naomi Kanakia - another contemporary trans fic book!!

Bonus: The Fortunate Fall by Cameron Reed - 90s cyberpunk novel written by an author who later came out as trans. if i had read this in the 90s i would be like wow this author is eggy as fuck !!
