𝕴 𝖉𝖎𝖉𝖓'𝖙 𝖌𝖔 back to sleep that night, though I tossed and turned and dozed a bit before I jerked awake and continued to toss and turn.
After a few hours, Mr. Weasley woke us up and told us to take our stuff outside after it was packed. I got dressed back in my shorts and blouse (yellow this time) and put all my stuff in my bag and trooped outside. Mr. Weasley packed up the tents using magic and we marched behind him to get to the portkeys.
We passed Mr. Roberts who was standing on his front porch and said, "Merry Christmas" as we passed by. Trang gave him a sad look.
"Are you alright?" Trang whispered in my ear as Mr. Weasley told everyone else that Mr. Roberts was going to be okay.
"Oh, um, yeah, I just want to make sure dad knows we're okay." I said, biting my bottom lip. "The riot probably already reached the newspapers and he'll be worried."
We took a rubber tire (much bigger thankfully) back to the hill and we walked as fast as we could back to the Burrow. Percy and I walked as far apart from each other as we could. Fred and Charlie still seemed to be fuming from last night and, unless my eyes were deceiving me, there was a nice fresh bruise on Percy's right cheek. But it could've been a trick of light.
No one talked much. We were hungry and exhausted. We rounded a corner and the Burrow came into view. Then Mrs. Weasley was running out of the house and saying "Oh thank goodness, thank goodness." She flung her arms around Mr. Weasley. I ducked into the house, leaving the rest of them outside. I went upstairs and put my bag away. Trang had followed quickly and said, "What are you going to do? You look so upset?"
"Just tired." I lied, thinking about last night. "I'm going to take the floo network home. . . just for a couple of hours. Unless dad's not home and I'll just come right back. I just need to talk to him, okay?" I smiled at her and kissed her cheek. Sometimes I wondered if I was French. "Get some sleep tiger." Sometimes I wondered if I treated her more like a friend or a daughter.
I headed back down the stairs, this time Trang didn't follow me. The Weasleys, Hermione, and Harry were all sitting in the kitchen and Fred looked up as I came in.
I headed over to where the fireplace was and took a little floo powder. "Elizabeth?" Fred asked, standing up from the table.
The entire family looked over.
"I just want to check on dad." I said. "That's all."
"Are you sure?" Fred asked.
I hesitated and said, "It's probably best if I remove myself from the area for a couple of hours, it'll give some people time to cool down."
I stepped in the fireplace and threw down the floo powder and said dad's house and disappeared, falling out of the fireplace and into someone's arms. I looked up. Dad had been standing in front of the fireplace when I'd come out. One arm was wrapped around my waist to prevent me from falling, the other was away from me so floo powder didn't fall onto the bricks.
"Oh." I said. "Were you going somewhere?"
"Er- I was coming to the burrow to see if. . ." Dad cleared his throat and put the floo powder back into the canister and took off his traveling cloak. He tossed it on a chair and wrapped his arms around me tightly. "I'm glad you're safe."
"I figured you'd be worried. Trang's okay too if you feel like dropping subtle hints to her parents." I said, burrowing my face into his chest. It was always so funny. . . bad things happened and then Dad was there to make everything okay. He was my safe rock.
Something in my voice made him pull back and take a good look at me and then he led me over to the couch and said, "Spill."
I rested my head on his shoulder and looked down at my hands while I spoke. I didn't cry though, like I might've done a different year. But I'd sworn to myself at the end of last year that dad would not see me cry again. I had to pause a couple times when me throat closed up and tears threatened to spill over, and then start up again once my throat cleared. I didn't mention the walk afterwards or what I said to Mr. Crouch.
Dad was patient and when he was done he said, "You know, I never really like Percy."
I laughed and then I couldn't stop laughing and I laughed so hard, tears spill out of my eyes but it was from laughing so it didn't count as crying. I wiped the tears away and grinned. "Really? Was he a bad student?"
"Bit arrogant, yeah." Dad said, grinning down at me. "Smart, but arrogant. But you and Hermione are smart, and simply smart."
I laughed again, this one just a short one.
"But in all seriousness." Dad said, "Trang's right. You have a life to live. You aren't supposed to be watching out for every single thing in life. You can live outside of the known. That's what everyone does, even you. Sometimes there's a situation that we don't know what's going to happen and then, it works out or it doesn't and we work with what we got. Seers, perhaps, have a bit of an upperhand, sure, but I'm sure you never look into your visions to see what you're going to make for dinner the next night, do you?"
I shook my head. Dad was right. Dad continued, "And every person there at the Quidditch cup last night didn't know what was going to happen and no one was killed, so there shouldn't be a problem."
"I just don't understand why I didn't see it." I said, a bit frustrated. I wanted to explain this properly. "Obviously, I've never really understood how they work. I've taken divination and it seems to be helping. But if I saw the entire Quidditch cup, play by play, why didn't I see even a segment of the riot afterwards?"
Of course, I didn't really expect dad to have an answer though he said slowly, "Well, perhaps there's a certain length you can see? Perhaps if you'd only seen segments of the Quidditch cup instead of the play by plays, perhaps you would've seen segments of the riots. I don't know how your visions work anymore than you do so it's only a guess." He shrugged his shoulders.
That could be true, I pondered. I'd never really had a long vision before, but then again, I'd wanted to see the outcome and I didn't want to skip to the end. . .
"By the way." Dad said suddenly. "I don't like Fred either. He's a bit of a troublemaker, I think you should stay away from him."
I giggled and gave dad a patronizing look. "Really now?"
"Yes." Dad said so solemnly that we both laughed. "No." He said with a grin, "I told you last year I have no problems with Fred. I don't really have problems with Percy either, I just think perhaps he views the world a bit like. . . Fudge perhaps. . . a tool to be used and not a person. . . and I think Voldemort thinks like that too."
I shuddered. Dad rubbed my shoulder in a comforting manner. "He's not going to touch you, I promise."
I nodded, "I know. It just seems so real."
Dad kissed my forehead. "Do you want breakfast? I'm sure you haven't eaten anything."
"Ah, dad, you don't have to cook for me." I said.
"Nonsense." Dad said, getting up from the couch and moving into the kitchen. "magic does wonders in the kitchen."
I giggled and watched him make a mess while trying to make pancakes. "You're not very good at this dad." I said, jokingly.
Dad shot flour at me with the wand and I screeched, ducking out of the way.
"Dad!" I complained, flour settling down on my shorts. I grabbed a handful of flour off the counter and tossed it at him so it landed in his hair. A full out flour battle began in the kitchen which dad upped when he tossed an egg at me.
I was eight all over again.
I was safe.
💙💙💙💙
𝕴 𝖐𝖎𝖘𝖘𝖊𝖉 𝖉𝖆𝖉 on the cheek and went back to the Burrow sometime after lunch. The kitchen was empty and I saw through the window that the others were out playing Quidditch. I went back upstairs to my room and grabbed my broom and headed on out, being quiet so not to wake Hermione who was taking a nap.
Bill, Charlie, Fred, George, Ron, Harry, Trang where on uneven teams of 3 v 4. "Got room for one more?" I called up.
"Yeah." Bill called. "You're on my team."
I flew up to join them.
💙💙💙💙
𝕺𝖛𝖊𝖗 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝖈𝖔𝖚𝖗𝖘𝖊 of the next couple weeks, we didn't see much of Percy or Mr. Weasley as they were both in the Ministry as much as possible. On Wednesday morning before Mr. Weasley left for work, he was to take Trang to the airport. She had her bags packed and slung over her shoulders.
Hermione, Ginny, Harry, Mrs. Weasley and I got up early to say good-bye to her. We all hugged her bye- even Harry- and when I got to her I whispered, "I'll tell you all about what's going to happen at Hogwarts this year, okay? Have a great school year."
"Thank you so much for inviting me." Trang said, with shining eyes to Mrs. Weasley. I think Trang might've been tearing up under her glasses.
"It was my pleasure dear." Mrs. Weasley said, giving her another hug. "I'll make sure you get your present for Christmas." Trang and I beamed.
"Well, come on then Trang." Mr. Weasley said, bouncing up and down on the balls of his feet. Ginny and I gave each other a knowing smile. Mr. Weasley couldn't wait to see the Muggle planes and see how muggles flew without brooms.
Trang and I hugged one last time and then she grabbed Mr. Weasley's arm. He turned on his heel, pulling her into nothingness with a loud crack.
That night at dinner, Mr. Weasley enlightened us on Muggle planes, ". . . Can fit up to 150 people! Isn't that amazing Molly? A broom can't do that! It's ingenious! And Trang said they'll serve you drink and food on the planes if you ask. . . and you can sleep on them without worrying about falling off. . . and they fly at high altitudes so you're above the clouds. . ."
I had a hard time keeping a straight face. It was hilarious the way wizards reacted to Muggle appliances. Like cars or escalators or malls or- like dad- he'd been horrified at amusement parks. He couldn't understand how they could be safe with just a belt or bar. It had taken a lot of coaxing to convince him to ride a roller coaster with me. He hadn't gone on one since.
On Sunday evening, we were downstairs doing things when Percy came home. Bill and Ron were playing chess. Ginny was mending her spellbooks with spellotape. Fred and George were sitting in a corner, muttering to each other. Harry was working on his Firebolt with his broom kit. Hermione was reading a book. Charlie was working on a fireproof balaclava. I was writing a short story called The Vial of Blood and the Jar of Ashes. It wasn't coming along well and I was getting frustrated easily, tossing the drafts into the fireplace.
"It's been an absolute uproar. I've been putting out fires all week. People keep sending Howlers and of course, if you don't open a Howler straight away, it explodes. Scorch marks all over my desk and my best quill reduced to cinders." Percy complained.
"Why are they sending Howlers?" Ginny asked, working on her One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi at the moment.
"Complaining about security at the World Cup. They want compensation for their ruined property. Mundungus Fletcher's put in a claim for a twelve-bedroomed tent with en-suite Jacuzzi, but I've got his number. I know for a fact he was sleeping under a cloak propped on sticks."
I laughed on the inside. Oh Mundungus. Dad had talked about him before. He didn't know him well, but he was supposed to be a trader on the black market and he got away with it.
"Your father hasn't had to go into the office on weekends since the days of You-Know-Who. They're working him far too hard. His dinner's going to be ruined if he doesn't come home soon." Mrs. Weasley said looking up at the clock of the family. His hand was pointing to work.
"Well, Father feels he's got to make up for his mistake at the match, doesn't he?" Percy asked and if I hadn't known Percy well by this point my mouth would've dropped open. "If truth be told, he was a tad unwise to make a public statement without clearing it with his Head of Department first-"
"Don't you dare blame your father for what that wretched Skeeter woman wrote!" Mrs. Weasley said angrily.
"If Dad hadn't said anything," Bill said from across the room, "old Rita would just have said it was disgraceful that nobody from the Ministry had commented. Rita Skeeter never makes anyone look good. Remember, she interviewed all the Gringotts Cham Breakers once, and called me 'a long-haired pillock'?"
I giggled and Mrs. Weasley said, "Well, it is a bit long, dear. If you'd just let me-"
"No, mum."
Mrs. Weasley turned her attention on Fred and George in the corner. "What are you two up to?"
"Homework." Fred said vaguely, barely looking up.
"Don't be ridiculous, you're still on holiday." Mrs. Weasley said amused.
"Yeah, we've left it a bit late." George said.
"You're not by any chance writing out a new order form, are you? You wouldn't be thinking of restarting Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes, by any chance?" Mrs. Weasley said shrewdly.
"Now mum, If the Hogwarts Express crashed tomorrow, and George and I died, how would you feel to know that the last thing we ever heard from you was an unfounded accusation?" Fred said, looking up and looking pained.
Everyone burst out laughing, even Percy.
"Oh your father's coming!" Mrs. Weasley said, "Coming Arthur!" She called and she bustled out of the room. A moment later, Mr. Weasley came into the living room, carrying a dinner tray and sat down in the armchair. I blotted my short story in frustration and threw it in the fire.
"Well the fat's really in the fire now. Rita Skeeter's been ferreting around all week, looking for more Ministry mess-ups to report. And now she's found out about poor old Bertha going missing, so that'll be the headline in the Prophet tomorrow. I told Bagman he should have sent someone to look for her ages ago." Mr. Weasley said in a tired way.
I knew Harry had looked up to look at me, but I didn't look at him. I pulled out a fresh sheet of parchment and tried again. It was supposed to be a story with morals and it wasn't working out that way. I liked the title though: The Vial of Blood and the Jar of ashes. Sounded menacing and yet, it was supposed to be a moral story- how different people dealt with depression: those that succumbed to it, and those who worked through it.
"Mr. Crouch has been saying it for weeks and weeks." Percy said, incorporating his favorite person into it.
"Crouch is very lucky Rita hasn't found out about Winky. There'd be a week's worth of headlines in his house-elf being caught holding the wand that conjured the Dark Mark." Mr. Weasley said in a dark voice and I realized he was right along with Hermione about Winky.
"I thought we were all agreed that that elf, while irresponsible, did not conjure the Mark?" Percy said hotly, shooting daggers at Mr. Weasley, probably because he didn't want any criticism about Mr. Crouch.
"If you ask me, Mr. Crouch is very lucky no one at the Daily Prophet knows how mean he is to elves!" Hermione said angrily.
"They don't care about elves either." I said, wondering why Crouch hadn't said anything about what I'd said to him in the woods. Maybe he didn't want to believe me. Maybe he couldn't say anything. Maybe he thought I was sprouting nonsense. "It would just make Crouch look bad for a moment." I said, pondering my next sentence for the short story and wondering what the names of my characters should be.
"Now look here, Hermione! A high-ranking Ministry official like Mr. Crouch deserves unswerving obedience from his servants-"
"He's hiding something." I interrupted, looking out the window. "I can feel it."
"Mr. Crouch isn't hiding a thing!" Percy said defensively. "Unless you can see it with your vision magic-"
"Lay off Perce!" Fred interrupted angrily "Just cause you're je-"
"His slave!" Hermione said hotly. "He didn't pay Winky, did he?"
"I think you'd all better go upstairs and check that you've packed properly! Come on now, all of you. . ." Mrs. Weasley said quickly.
Ron sighed, packing up the chess set. Harry quickly put his broom kit back together and put his broom over his shoulder. Ginny picked up her school books and Fred and George were already gone. Percy went into the kitchen and Charlie and Bill made their way out of the room too.
"Mr. Weasley." I said as most of the others went upstairs. "Mr. Diggory is going to call- by fireplace- on you tomorrow. I don't know about what exactly. Something to do with Mad- eye Moody."
"Thank you Elizabeth." Mr. Weasley said, looking like he might fall asleep in his chair. I wondered if he'd even heard what I'd said, but I dashed up the stairs nevertheless. Tomorrow, we would be going back to Hogwarts. Tomorrow night, I would see my favorite Professor. Tomorrow, I would be away from Percy. Tomorrow, I would be at my second home.
💙💙💙💙
𝕿𝖍𝖊 𝖓𝖊𝖝𝖙 𝖒𝖔𝖗𝖓𝖎𝖓𝖌, I woke up early. Heavy rain was pouring down the windows and I saw flashes of lightning. I got dressed in jeans and a T-shirt for the Beatles. I pulled my hair back into a ponytail and because my left eye had steadily gotten worse over the last three years from not wearing my glasses like I was supposed to- I put my glasses on.
I had packed my trunk last night and I lugged it down the stairs and put it down near the door.
I went into the living room and saw Mr. Diggory's head pop into the fire.
Mrs. Weasley was in the room with me, probably waiting for the call that I had said was going to happen. She rushed past me and said, "Arthur! Arthur! Urgent message from the Ministry!"
I pulled a quill out of my pocket and handed it to Mr. Weasley as he came by. He thanked me quickly and I listened in to the conversation. Harry, Ron, Fred, and George came into the room as well.
Mr. Diggory started to talk very fast. "Muggle neighbors heard bangs and shouting, so they went and called those what- d'you-call-'ems- please-men. Arthur, you've got to get over there- it's a real stroke of luck I heard about it. I had to come into the office early to send a couple of owls and I found the Improper Use of magic lot all setting off- if Rita Skeeter gets hold of this one, Arthur-" Mr. Diggory said urgently.
"What does Mad-eye say happen?" Mr. Weasley asked.
Mr. Diggory rolled his eyes. "Says he heard an intruder in his yard. Says he was creeping toward the house, but was ambushed by his dustbins."
"What did the dustbins do?" Mr. Weasley asked.
"Made one hell of a noise and fired rubbish everywhere, as far as I can tell. Apparently one of them was still rocketing around when the please-men turned up-"
Mr. Weasley groaned and asked, "What about the intruder?"
"Arthur, you know Mad-eye. Someone creeping into his yard in the dead of night? Most likely there's a very shell-shocked cat wandering around somewhere, covered in potato peelings. But if the improper Use of Magic lot get their hands on Mad-Eye, he's had it- think of his record- we've got to get him off on a minor charge, something in your department- what are exploding dustbins worth?"
"Might be a caution." Mr. Weasley answered, scribbling as fast as his hand would let him. "Mad-eye didn't use his wand? He didn't actually attack anyone?"
"I'll be he leapt out of bed and started jinxing everything he could reach through the window, but they'll have a job proving it, there aren't any casualties." Mr. Diggory said with a third eye roll. I laughed softly. Sounded like Uncle Moody.
I headed into the kitchen to get some toast and left the conversation behind me.
"Did someone say mad-eye?" Bill asked as he came into the kitchen with Charlie. "What's he been up to now. Nice glasses Elizabeth."
I grinned but my mouth was full of bread and butter so I didn't answer.
"He says someone tried to break into his house last night." Mrs. Weasley said, putting more food on the table.
"Mad-Eye Moody?" George asked. "Isn't he that nutter-"
"Your father thinks very highly of Mad-Eye Moody." Mrs. Weasley said sternly and left the room.
"Yeah, well, Dad collects plugs, doesn't he?" Fred muttered. "Birds of a feather."
"Moody was a great wizard in his time." Bill said. I nodded fervently.
"He's an old friend of Dumbledore's isn't he?" Charlie asked.
"Dumbledore's not what you call normal though, is he?" Fred asked and I laughed. "I mean, I know he's a genius and everything. . ."
"Who is Mad-Eye?" Harry asked interested. "And since when do you wear glasses Elizabeth?"
"An Auror- that's a dark wizard catcher." I said, grabbing another piece of toast and buttering it. "Half the cells in Azkaban are full cause of him. He was great. I know him too, he's a family friend of dad's. I call him Uncle Moody. . . long story. Anyways, a lot of people think he's paranoid because he had a lot of enemies. Family members of the people he put away." I paused and then said, "He's going to be a teacher at Hogwarts this year. But nobody but Dumbledore and Hagrid were going to clap for him when he's introduced. I expect ya'll will clap for him now? I'd hate to be the only student clapping."
"He is?" Charlie asked with renowned interest and a mouth full of food.
I nodded. "Dumbledore wants an Auror at Hogwarts this year and Mad-eyes the best."
"Why does Dumbledore want an Auror at Hogwarts this year?" George asked with interest.
I shrugged but grinned. "Oh gee, I don't know. Maybe it's to keep you and Fred in line this year."
The others laughed, including the twins.
"Nah, but I'm not going to spoil the surprise." I said. "Dumbledore will announce it tonight."
"That's frustrating." George groaned.
"And I've worn glasses my entire life." I said, shrugging. "But I decided I didn't want to wear them anymore and now my left eye's been diagnosed as worse than my right eye so I have to wear them again. Pity."
"They look good." Bill, Charlie, and Fred all said as one, and then scowled at each other. Ginny and Harry snorted into their porridge and Hermione hid a smile behind her book. Ron looked confused. I got up to brush my teeth, my cheeks blushing bright red.
Bill and Charlie decided to come to the train station with us, but Percy didn't, much to my relief. He said, "I just can't justify taking more time off at the moment. Mr. Crouch is really starting to rely on me."
"Yeah, you know what, Percy? I reckon he'll know your name soon." George had said, and we'd all laughed, and Percy had left in a huff.
Mrs. Weasley had called three Muggle taxis. The taxi drivers didn't seem very happy with transporting the animals. Harry, Hermione, and Ron got into one cab. Fred, George, and Ginny got in another and I rode with Bill, Charlie, and Mrs. Weasley in the last cab.
It wasn't a terribly uncomfortable car ride. I was squeezed between Charlie and Bill but neither of them seemed to mind the closeness. To be fair, I didn't mind the closeness either.
On the platform, I saw that Hermione, Ron, and Harry had been severely scratched by Crookshanks and I was glad that I had not been in the cab with them. I loaded my trunk onto a trolley- Bill helping- and we made our way into the trains station.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione went through the barrier first. Fred and George followed, then Ginny and Charlie, then Bill and I. Mrs. Weasley followed from behind. I got onto the train and then put my luggage up where Ron, Hermione, and Harry were and then went back out with them to say good-bye to the others.
"I might be seeing you all sooner than you think." Charlie said, giving Ginny a hug.
"Why?" Fred asked through narrowed eyes.
"You'll see. Just don't tell Percy I mentioned it. . . it's 'classified information, until such time as the Ministry sees fit to release it', after all." Charlie said with a grin.
"Yeah, I sort of wish I were back at Hogwarts this year." Bill said, looking wistfully at the train. I rolled my eyes. Yeah, yeah, chalk it up to sound amazing and then- oh you can't actually compete in it because none of you are seventeen boo hoo.
"Why?" George asked impatiently.
"You're going to have an interesting year. I might even get time off to come and watch a bit of it. . ." Bill said with a twinkle in his eyes.
"A bit of what?" Ron asked, almost angrily.
The whistle blew at that moment. I kissed Bill and Charlie on the cheeks and thanked Mrs. Weasley for letting us stay and then climbed on board. Both Bill and Charlie had red faces and dopey grins on their faces. I rolled my eyes and headed back to the compartment while the others tried to get Bill and Charlie to tell them what was happening at Hogwarts this year.
Ron, Harry, and Hermione came into the compartment a few minutes later. Ron was grumpy and pulled his dress robes out of his locker. I breathed a sigh of relief to see Mrs. Weasley had used my money to buy him a set of maroon dress robes with no lace.
"Bagman wanted to tell us what's happening at Hogwarts, at the World Cup, remember? But my own mother won't say." Ron muttered, throwing his dress robes over Pigwidegon's cage. "Wonder what-"
"Ever heard of a surprise Ron?" I muttered and Harry laughed.
"Shh." Hermione said, pressing her fingers to her lips.
". . . Father actually considered sending me to Durmstrang rather than Hogwarts, you know. He knows the headmaster, you see. Well, you know his opinion of Dumbledore- the man's such as Mudblood-lover- and Durmstrang doesn't admit that sort of riffraff. But Mother didn't like the idea of me going to school so far away. Father says Durmstrang takes a far more sensible line than Hogwarts about the Dark Arts. Durmstrang students actually learn them, not just the defense rubbish we do..."
Hermione got up and closed the compartment door. "So he thinks Durmstrang would have suited him, does he? I wish he had gone, then we wouldn't have to put up with him!"
"Durmstrang's another wizarding school?" Harry asked puzzled.
"Good lord Harry." I said, rolling my eyes and looking up from my book. "How'd you pass your History of Magic test?"
"Yes, and it's got a horrible reputation. According to An Appraisal of Magical Education in Europe, it puts a lot of emphasis on the Dark Arts." Hermione said with a disapproving sniff.
"I think I've heard of it." Ron said vaguely. "Where is it? What country?"
"Norway or Sweden." I said, not looking up from my book. "In the farthest tip of one of the countries, right next to the sea."
"How'd you know that?" Hermione asked suspiciously. "Other students don't usually know where other schools are."
"Er- why not?" Harry asked before I got a chance to explain.
"There's traditionally a lot of rivalry between all the magic schools. Durmstrang and Beauxbatons like to conceal their whereabouts so nobody can steal their secrets." Hermione said.
Ron laughed. "Come off it, Durmstrang's got to be about the same size as Hogwarts- how are you going to hide a great big castle?"
"But Hogwarts is hidden?" I said in an exasperated voice.
"Everyone knows that." Hermione said.
"Everyone that reads Hogwarts, a History anyways," the two of us said together.
"So just you two. Go on- how d'you hide a place like Hogwarts?" Ron asked, smiling.
"It's bewitched." Hermione said. "If a Muggle looks at it, all they see is a moldering old ruin with a sign over the entrance saying DANGER, DO NOT ENTER, UNSAFE."
"So Durmstrang'll just look like a ruin to an outsider too?" Ron asked skeptically.
"Maybe, or it might have Muggle-repelling charms on it, like the World Cup stadium. And to keep foreign wizards from finding it, they'll have made it Unplottable-"
"Come again?" Harry asked.
"Well, you can enchant a building so it's impossible to plot on a map, can't you?" I asked.
"Er... if you say so." Harry said with a shrug.
Hermione eyed me with suspicion and said, "But I think Durmstrang must be somewhere in the far north because they've got fur capes as part of their uniforms."
I glared at her, "Yes, I said Norway and Sweden which are pretty cold countries. They also take a lot of students from Bulgaria."
"How would you know, though?" Hermione said, frustrated. "It's not in any book that I've read."
"I don't know, Hermione." I said, a bit annoyed. "I just know."
Hermione hmphed a little. She was the sort that didn't trust information unless she read it in a book.
Meanwhile, Ron was daydreaming and said aloud, "Ah, think of the possibilities. It would've been so easy to push Malfoy off a glacier and make it look like an accident. . . Shame his mother likes him..."
"Why don't you just tell us what's going to happen at Hogwarts Liz." Harry said, smiling at me and I nearly gave in.
I put my head deeper into the book, "Not happening. Why should I ruin the surprise?"
The sky became horribly dark as we continued to travel and it was getting harder to read my book as the train lights hadn't completely turned on yet. Eventually they did and many of Harry and Ron's friends checked in for a bit of time.
Seamus, Dean, and Neville came in to talk about Quidditch with Harry and Ron. I joined in a little bit, but not much. Neville stayed, even after Seamus and Dean had left. Ron pulled out his Viktor Krum figurine and put it in Neville's hands.
"Oh wow." Neville said enviously.
"We saw him right up close, as well. We were in the top box-" Ron was saying.
"For the first and last time in your life, Weasley." Draco Malfoy rudely interrupted. I briefly glanced up and saw that both Vincent and Gregory seemed to have grown a foot over the summer and then looked back down, uninterested.
I was reading It again. Reading about how Eddie was in the hospital with a broken arm and was talking to his mother about her sending his friends away. And of course, it was written in an old time when girls who hung out with boys were considered sluts because girls weren't supposed to hang out with boys once they turned a certain age. Eddie was asking his mum if she had known that his asthma medicine was just water and mint flavoring and she was debating about telling him that yes, she knew he wasn't actually sick.
"Don't remember asking you to join us, Malfoy." Harry said coolly.
Draco surveyed the room, looking for something to criticize and I was glad once again Mrs. Weasley had bought Ron different robes.
"Going to enter, Weasley? Going to try and bring a bit of glory to the family name? There's money involved as well, you know. . . you'd be able to afford a decent broom if you won. . ." Draco said slyly.
"What are you talking about?" Ron snapped.
"Are you going to enter? I suppose you will, Potter? Or you Kane? You never miss a chance to show off, do you?" Malfoy asked with a sneer. "And what's up with those ridiculous glasses?"
"Nope." I said, flipping a page in my book, sounding as bored as can be. "Dumbledore put an age limit on it. Only seventeen year olds get to compete. And I've always worn glasses, don't you pay attention to anything?"
Draco looked disappointed and then I looked up and gave him a lovely smile and said, "By the way, I've been meaning to ask how long it took for the spell to wear off at the cup the other day. Is your stomach still sore?" I finished off with mock concern.
Harry and Ron laughed.
Malfoy's face turned red with anger and said, "I'll make you pay for that move."
"Lovely, can't wait to kick your ass again." I said, flipping another page.
Draco turned away and stormed off.
"Elizabeth. . ." Hermione said in a warning voice, "Do you have to piss him off every chance you get?"
"Well. . . yeah." I said, closing my book as the chapter ended. "What else am I supposed to do when he's around? Read?" Harry and Ron laughed again. Neville stayed with us for the rest of the time.

Imagine if Luna had a special power like Pandora.
Like if she could see through Poly- Juice potioned people , If she was in Goblet Of Fire it would’ve gone like this .
“Hey uncle Barty ”
“ No I’m Mad Eye Moody ”
“No you’re not you are my uncle Barty”
Later in his office …
“So Luna how’d you know”
“ I can see past Poly-Juice potion, Dad says I have a special ability just like mum ”
“ That’s right , It’s so nice to see you again .”
Then after she left he broke down in tears because she is all he has left of Pandora and the love of his life Evan .

could i pretty please with a cherry on top ask you to argue for dialogue prompt 62 with sirius?? 🥹🤭
you absolutely can<33 this is a bit angsty but mostly in the bittersweet way, i promise. i just adore the thought of sirius falling for a slytherin during the war and learning to understand and forgive his brother through them...
✶・•・✦・•・✶・✶・•・✦・•・✶
i will ARGUE for prompt 62 "this means war, my dear" with sirius black
carina's 2k celebration
✶・•・✦・•・✶・✶・•・✦・•・✶
cw: fem!reader, hurt/comfort, pre-established relationship, background wizarding war, reader was friends with the slytherin skittles, implied death eater barty
wc: 1k
Sirius was always the best of the bunch to distract you.
When the meetings became longer and more frequent and when you felt you were spending more time at various safe houses than in your own bed, Sirius had become the one you would subconsciously turn to. Whether he realised the position you had accidentally bestowed upon him or not, you did not know, but he seemed to readily accept it regardless.
Prior to the Order, you never really spoke with Sirius Black, being a year below him and close friends with his little brother and the other Slytherins. Had someone told you four years ago that you would seek him out in corners and laugh quietly together, you would have thought them mad and, perhaps worse, thought yourself a traitor.
Yet, here you were.
When you excused yourself for a glass of water, there was Sirius, ready with the cup. When you got up to pace by the window, he would sit down in the windowsill, so you weren’t alone. When you could not sleep at night, you went to the living room where you almost always found him sitting with some beat up guitar, playing some tune you never knew.
It remained unspoken, but you reckoned he kept you tethered more than you’d care to realise.
Dorcas was with you in the Order, but it was in part because you were such close friends that you struggled turning to her. So, it became Sirius. You weren’t sure how, when or why, but it became him.
Dumbledore had called the Order together to spend the weekend in Potter Manor, planning an extraction of muggleborns that were held up in Southern Wales by some death eaters there. Officially, you didn’t have any names on death eaters involved yet, but from the minute Moody described one of them as having “acid green hair”, you were mentally checked out for the rest of the day. Everyone knew, you could tell from the weight on their eyes on you, but you couldn’t focus.
You excused yourself early, and found yourself sat on the floor in front of an old record player that had gathered dust, looking through the piles upon piles of records, not really seeing any of them.
A beat up pair of black boots came into view seconds before he spoke. “Some music to drown out your thoughts?”
You looked up to meet Sirius’ eyes, already hearing the joking tone in his voice and relieved to find the same atmosphere on his face. He crouched down next to you, so you wouldn’t have to strain your neck and bumped his shoulder into yours. “What’re we listening to, princess?”
He questioned you, but he didn't hurry you, allowing you to take your time to process your thoughts and connect your mind back into a conversational mode. You gave him a weak smile. “I don’t really know, I haven’t looked at them properly yet.”
Sirius had the grace not to comment on the fact that you had been sitting before the records for a good 20 minutes – on the contrary, he looked completely unphased, still smiling that easy smile of his. The more you got to know him, the more the suspicion that it wasn’t all that easy settled into you. It only made you more grateful to have it bestowed upon you.
“Well, this is Uncle Wulfric’s collection mostly, so it’s quite outdated. None of the David Bowie, Freddie Mercury crowd, but I believe he has some Andrews Sisters, Glenn Miller and the likes.”
You sometimes forgot that Potter Manor was as much his house as James’.
“Oh, that’s alright.” You didn’t quite recognise your own voice as you spoke. “I don’t really listen to a lot of Bowie anyway.”
Sirius turned on his heels to you, grabbing your knee with one hand and his chest with the other as he gasped theatrically. “You simply cannot say any such blasphemous words to me, princess, I’ll have a stroke. I’m terribly sorry, but this means war, my dear.”
He nodded at you gravely but squeezed your knee to show it was all in jest. You surprised even yourself when a laugh bubbled up past your lips, rumbling your body in a delightful way.
Sirius’ eyes widened along with his smile as he took in the sight. His eyes read mission accomplished and you deigned not to think too much about its implications.
You held your hands up in surrender as the mirth continued its dance across your face. “Fetch me a white flag to wave, would you? We’ve got enough war on our hands without me angering the Almighty Music Knower.”
Sirius dropped his chin to his chest and chuckled, looking up at you through his stray dark curls and long eyelashes.
“What do you say then, pretty girl?” He squeezed your knee again. “Can I put on some Ella Fitzgerald for you?”
Your eyes followed his gaze to the Fitzgerald plate propped up against the side of the record player. It seemed well-loved. “You may,” you said with faux recession, to which Sirius’ grin became more beaming.
He leaned over past you, putting his knee down on the ground right beside yours to reach the record player and pop the plate on with skilled precession – a comfortable action, one he has done many times before. You didn’t move to give him more room, instead you allowed him into your space, basking in how it seemed to ground you.
Sirius smelled like his shampoo and leather jacket, even when he wasn’t wearing it, and though his skin was cold whenever it brushed yours, you still ached for its proximity.
This odd feeling going through you was perhaps something to look into after all of this, when the only war that was waged was the one between you and Sirius apparently, over what music to listen to. For now, when he gave you a smile that was equal parts fond and reassuring, you simply did your best to return it.

he swallowed and went on with the class.
barty who cried his guts out after so many years when mad eye moody, he, casually asked luna about his mother - she died.
he had clinged hard on the silver lining, that he could go see his dora, the little of his home left..

Fandoms: Harry Potter (Books), House of the Dragon (TV), The Bear (TV), Criminal Minds (TV)
As much as I like writing fanfiction, I love reading it even more! I enjoy a beautifully-written story as much as anyone does, and recommend the following for those looking for a wonderful read that will make you feel like you're in another world –
Tumblr media
dirty old town – Regulus Black x OC
Author: WizardGod
Status: Complete - AO3 Page
One of my favourite stories that I have ever read.
Set during the Marauders Era, the plot follows a young woman named Finn Lynch, who lives a reserved life in rural Ireland, until her uncle, Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody, asks her temporarily house a war defector from a Wizarding World she is not part of.
Word Count: 286,984
Tropes: Slow Burn, Mild Enemies-to-Lovers, Fake/Pretend Relationship, Mutual Pining, Hurt/Comfort, Found Family
Tumblr media
Thy Wicked Torment – Fred Weasley x OC
Author: this_pendent_world
Status: Complete - AO3 Page
You know it's a good fanfic when the writing actually makes you feel like you're in Hogwarts, and this story is impeccable!
Set during the Tri-Wizard Tournament, the story follows a young Slytherin named Evangeline Parkinson Rothchild, and the trouble she ends up finding herself in as she becomes involved with Fred Weasley, Gryffindor's resident troublemaker.

Tumblr media
Where the Gold Meets the Green – Aemond Targaryen x OC
Author: vhagarapologist
Status: WIP - AO3 Page
Well-written House of the Dragon fanfiction with romance, political intrigue and minimal Targ-cest?? Say less. This is a fairly recent-read and is still being regularly updated, but I am really enjoying it and look forward to reading new chapters when they come out.
The story follows Leona Lannister, the only surviving child of Tyland Lannister, during the Dance of the Dragons, as she navigates life in King's Landing and catches the eye of two Targaryen princes.
Current Word Count: 67,148
Tropes: Slow Burn, Enemies-to-Lovers, Angst, Toxic Relationship
Tumblr media
The Fool and the Dragon – Aemond Targaryen x OC
Author: prince_aemond_targaryen / @prince-aemond-targaryen
Status: WIP (Almost Complete) - AO3 Page
The first Aemond Targaryen story that I adored (written before the episodes with him as an adult aired) - back when Season 1 was airing, I would re-read the chapters between the weekly episode premieres to tide me over; it's just that good.
Faune Follard, the valued lady-in-waiting of Princess Helaena Targaryen, navigates life in King's Landing whilst enduring the ire of the One-Eyed Prince.
Current Word Count: 99,899
Tropes: Slow Burn, Angst, Mild Enemies-to-Lovers, Toxic Relationship
Tumblr media
How Can You Mend a Broken Heart – Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto x Reader
Author: justfantasy
Status: WIP - AO3 Page
Finding good Carmy fanfiction is akin to searching for water in a drought, and I do really wish there was more! This is my favourite one, but sadly there aren't many chapters and it hasn't been updated in a while.
Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto, a man of few words, has a one night stand which turns into something more.
Current Word Count: 11,345
Tropes: Friends-to-Lovers, Hurt/Comfort, Mutual Pining
Tumblr media
The Keeping of Words – Spencer Reid x OC
Author: BryWrites
Status: Complete First Version on Fanfiction.Net + WIP Second Version Re-Write on AO3
I read this story originally when it started being published seven years ago, and I was obsessed!
The story follows an aspiring human rights lawyer, Bianca Brown, as she is asked to assist on a BAU case and ends up finding herself intertwined with a member of the BAU, an elusive man named Dr. Spencer Reid.
Word Count: 264,402 (FFN) / 202,439 (AO3)
Tropes: Hurt/Comfort, Second Chances, Slow Burn
Tumblr media
This list is not very long, but like said, these are stories that I really enjoy and feel passionate about. Evidently I prefer self-insert fanfiction, but I do read anything and everything. If you have a recommendation (for any fandom and any pairing), feel free to share in the comments!
I also write fanfiction myself, and my masterlist is linked below incase you'd like to give any story a read.
– Masterlist ✴ by bittersweetarts
Until next time, Happy Holidays!
PS. I still don't know how to respond to comments on posts (as this is a secondary blog), but I read and appreciate them all! If you ever want a direct response from me, you can private message me or send a question in my ask inbox.

Until your most recent chapter I didn't really stop to consider Molly Weasley's role in the first war. She had a baby, 2 toddlers and 3 kids to take care of, plus the house. I imagine she was the one preparing meals for the Order and tending to the wounded, since she seems pretty good with healing charms. It's a side of war that people don't really talk about, right?
What do you think were James and Lily's roles in the war? Either in canon or Lionheart is fine. Also, if you have the time and the will, I'd love to hear what you think about the while blood magic thing Lily did for Harry. Cause we don't really see this type of magic in canon, jkr was really vague about it, and since your Pansy seems to know quite a bit of blood Magic I was curious to know if they work in similar ways in your canon. It doesn't seeem like they teach this kind of thing in Hogwarts' normal curriculum, and to know that Lily Evans was possibly an feral muggle-born toying with dark magic fascinates me. Like, did Snape introduced it to her? The recent talk Draco had with his mother about cruel spells not always being dark magic and vice versa was really interesting and got me in my current state of rambling
This dovetails wonderfully on the heels of my last post about Molly Weasley, so I'll pick it up here! Molly is absolutely at the center of the Order's efforts in both the First and Second Wizarding Wars, and her role as a mother is indivisible from her role as a soldier. Bill is 7 or 8 when the first war begins, which means Charlie's 5-6, and Percy is around 2. You can only imagine the frustration for her — that's an age where someone really needs to be around the house, but at the same time, everyone you know is going off to fight. And like— oh—
Did you ever think that Molly probably had to sit through the battle where her brothers died? That's a thought that just occurred to me. Set aside what happened to Lily and James, or even Frank and Alice; Molly wasn't an only child until the war. Bill was old enough to know his uncles. Charlie was, too. And hey — do you think she had the twins before or after her twin brothers died? Which do you think is worse?
Anyway. I think James and Lily joined the war effort immediately, considering how short the timeline is after they graduate => marriage => baby Harry => Trelawney's prophecy. In Lionheart, Moody mentions that "Evans was 16 when she came to me," which I meant to acknowledge that students were (and are! cf. Cedric and Angelina) trying to get involved with the war before they graduated. Moody and Molly are of different philosophies on this, but it's implied that Moody accepted Lily's offer, because of Molly's remark about "forgiveness" — which is obviously a bit vague, but the implicit accusation is that the Potters wouldn't have died if they hadn't been soldiers. Of course, we know that's not actually true (my spin on this particular part of canon will be fully fleshed-out in the story, but as you can probably guess, James and Lily aren't random kills). But Molly doesn't know that, so in her mind, there's a straight line between Moody accepting Lily's offer and Harry being orphaned.
James and Lily, while by all accounts quite competent, are not actually described as being that powerful in canon. Becoming an animagus at such a young age obviously requires James to be an unusually clever and/or motivated kid, and I have no trouble believing that he was one of the most naturally talented wizards in his year, but he also reads as a bit of a lazy jackass in the one(!) scene we ever get. The person who vouches for his offstage character growth — Sirius — is frankly a bit of a jackass himself. To be clear, I'm not denying the James Potter Redemption Arc. I have great affection for James as this jackass jock who gets walloped off his pedestal by one Lily Evans, and then cobbles together a decent personality from spit and elbow-grease. I just don't think he's a mind-blowing secret agent or anything. In Mad-Eye's view, it would make most sense to put James somewhere behind the front lines, where he can learn from the seasoned Aurors. Same with Lily, too.
Which is good, in my opinion. It's important to the thematic tissue of Harry Potter that James and Lily are ordinary people — extraordinary in the hearts and memories of the people who loved them, extraordinary in courage and resilience, but not especially magical or gifted beyond the range of what normal people in this universe could achieve. That isn't to say that Lily didn't do anything remarkable on October 31, 1981; she did. But I have always liked how canon left them ordinary soldiers, who were betrayed and slaughtered by an accident of fate; in another world, it could have been the Longbottoms, or it could have been no one.

"Why didn't anyone do anything to help Harry" Alastor Moody did.
Arthur too, bless him - but Mad-Eye doesn't fucking hold back. And he's only known Harry for a few spotty meetings over a year.
“Well — shall we do it, then?” “Yeah, I reckon so, Arthur,” said Moody. ... ... “Good afternoon,” said Mr. Weasley pleasantly to Uncle Vernon, coming to a halt right in front of him. “You might remember me, my name’s Arthur Weasley.” ... ... “We thought we’d just have a few words with you about Harry,” said Mr. Weasley, still smiling. “Yeah,” growled Moody. “About how he’s treated when he’s at your place.” ... ... “I am not aware that it is any of your business what goes on in my house —” “I expect what you’re not aware of would fill several books, Dursley,” growled Moody. “Anyway, that’s not the point,” interjected Tonks, ... ... “The point is, if we find out you’ve been horrible to Harry —” “— and make no mistake, we’ll hear about it,” added Lupin pleasantly. “Yes,” said Mr. Weasley, “even if you won’t let Harry use the fellytone —” “Telephone,” whispered Hermione. “Yeah, if we get any hint that Potter’s been mistreated in any way, you’ll have us to answer to,” said Moody. ... ... “Are you threatening me, sir?” he said, so loudly that passersby actually turned to stare. “Yes, I am,” said Mad-Eye, who seemed rather pleased that Uncle Vernon had grasped this fact so quickly. “And do I look like the kind of man who can be intimidated?” barked Uncle Vernon. “Well . . .” said Moody, pushing back his bowler hat to reveal his sinisterly revolving magical eye. Uncle Vernon leapt backward in horror and collided painfully with a luggage trolley. “Yes, I’d have to say you do, Dursley.” He turned from Uncle Vernon to Harry. “So, Potter... give us a shout if you need us. If we don’t hear from you for three days in a row, we’ll send someone along....”
OotP, Chapter 38 (edited for brevity)
Met this boy a handful of times and says: "The Muggles treat him bad? Nope. I ain't standin' for that." Clunks over, scares the shit out of them - and makes promises he intends to keep as a support network for Harry.

Top Gun x Marauders ff?
Top Gun: the elite training program where the best naval aviators in the world come to compete. For Sirius "Padfoot" Black, it's more than just a proving ground - it's a chance to escape the shadow of his powerful family, live up to the legacy of his late uncle Alphard, and carve out his own path in the sky. Alongside his best friend and RIO, James "Prongs" Potter, Sirius enters the high-stakes, high-speed world of aerial combat training, determined to prove he’s earned his place.
But not everyone is convinced. Severus "Phantom" Snape, a cool and calculating pilot, believes Sirius is only there because of his family name, a suspicion that fuels an intense rivalry. While Padfoot and Prongs soar to new heights, Marlene "Snippy" McKinnon and her wingwoman and girlfriend, Dorcas "Valkyrie" Meadowes, dominate the competition as the duo to beat. But it’s not just about being the best - I t’s about earning the respect of legends like "Mad-Eye" Moody, the grizzled veteran who sees echoes of Sirius' uncle in him.
When Sirius crosses paths with Remus "Moony" Lupin, a brilliant instructor with a sharp mind and a passion for the sky, he finds himself facing his toughest challenge yet - one that’s both thrilling and terrifying. As sparks fly and emotions run high, Sirius learns that there’s more to flying than pushing the limits; sometimes, you have to trust someone else to guide you through the turbulence.
Meanwhile, James and Lily navigate their own journey as James struggles to balance his reckless bravery with the responsibilities of being a team player, while Lily provides support from the ground, mirroring her bond with her late husband. Their story is one of love, loss, and finding the courage to let go.
As the competition intensifies, alliances form, rivalries deepen, and the stakes grow higher. With Phantom in his rearview and Snippy pushing him harder than ever, Sirius must confront his past, his doubts, and the ghost of a family legacy that looms over him. Can he prove to everyone, including himself, that he belongs, or will he crash and burn under the weight of expectation?
This fanfic will be dropping eventually

𝕴 𝖒𝖊𝖙 𝖜𝖎𝖙𝖍 Rose and Grace in the Charms classroom exactly when I said I was going to. We worked on disarming a bit more. By the end of the lesson, they had both disarmed me and I was quite proud of them.
With our extra ten minutes, we worked on some other second-year spells and then called it quits since it was getting close to their curfew. With my two hours of curfew left, I visited Professor Snape's office.
He was grading tests in a bad temper and his expression didn't soften as I came in.
"What's wrong?" I asked as he threw another test onto the chair next to him.
"You haven't come to see me in three days." He said.
I pursed my lips to keep from smiling. "Sorry." I said, putting my arms across his shoulders and put my head on the top of his head, looking at the tests from behind. "Do you feel better now?"
"No." He said, sounding disgruntled. "I think-" He threw the rest of the tests onto the desk, "-you should come around front and sit on my lap."
I giggled and did just as he asked and pressed my lips to his. "You realize I'm a bit big for this?" I pointed out.
"No." He said stubbornly, kissing me. "You're only- to big- for sitting on- your dad's lap- not mine." He said between kisses.
I giggled again, kissing his cheek. "I suppose you're-" he cut off my words and then I managed to say "-right about that."
"Your hand looks better." He said when I finally stood up. I looked down at it. The scabs had healed so that they looked more like thin red scratches than scabbed over words.
"It doesn't look as extreme now." I said happily. "Oh," I said, less happily. "Professor Umbridge questioned me. But I didn't drink the tea so I never took the truth serum."
"Yes." he said stiffly, standing up. "She asked me for it and I couldn't refuse it."
"Could've given her a fake bottle." I pointed out.
"That's true, I'll do that next time." Severus said, moving a stack of papers off the desk. "Guess you should make my decisions for me."
"Sorry." I muttered, thinking he was mad. "I wasn't trying to-"
"I know." He interrupted, putting both hands on either side of my face, squishing my cheeks together. I stared up at him, pouting. "Stop pouting damnit." I didn't stop and he groaned. "You make my life so difficult Elizabeth."
"Life's difficult." I said simply and he glared at me, dropping his hands.
"So what are you going to do tonight?" He asked casually, turning his back to me. I looked at him. His black hair was swept perfectly so that I couldn't see his face when I answered.
"What do you want?" I asked softly.
He ran a hand through his hair. "I don't know. I mean, I want you, obviously, but it's getting dangerous."
Then, I cocked my head and smiled, "You know what? I think I just got a great idea."
🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
"𝕿𝖍𝖎𝖘." 𝕾𝖊𝖛𝖊𝖗𝖚𝖘 𝖌𝖗𝖚𝖓𝖙𝖊𝖉, "Is the stupidest idea you've ever had."
I glared at him, closing Hagrid's cabin door behind him and going over and making sure the windows were sealed and locked and the curtains were placed over them. "Just don't turn on the lights." I said.
"Ouch!" Severus said as I heard him crash into something. "Bloody brilliant advice Elizabeth."
"Umbridge, Harry, Ron, and Hermione will come running." I said, reaching out and taking his hand and pulling him over to where Hagrid's large bed was. "Besides, no one is going to think to find us here."
"Still." Severus said, settling onto the bed next to me.
"Sev, just shut up and kiss me." I said, pressing my lips to his throat and felt his pulse quicken and heard his breathing stop for a second.
"Elizabeth. . ." He moaned. "You're not. . . we're not. . ."
I blushed and pulled away. "No, of course not! We're not married."
He pulled me back down to kiss me. "Just wanted to make sure so I didn't overstep my boundaries."
I laughed softly, curling into his side. "Hey Sev?"
"Yeah?" He asked, running his fingers up and down my arm.
"I love you."
It hung there in the air for a second. The last time I'd said I'd loved him was December of last year, nearly ten months ago. We hadn't even been dating yet. It had kind of slipped out of my mouth.
My heart thudded in my chest, waiting to see if he was going to say anything and I squeezed my eyes shut tightly. Maybe if I fell asleep then in the morning I could just assume that he'd said it back.
But he had changed his demeanor suddenly. His tongue traced my lips and then he kissed me and it was very, very different. A French kiss- something we'd never down before. I could feel his tongue in my mouth, something I actually found rather attractive now that I'd actually done it. I had originally thought it might be repulsive. Now, I hoped we did it every time. My heart beat faster. I also felt very disoriented as he ran his tongue down to my throat and bit me.
"Oh!" I gasped. It wasn't a hard bite- in fact, it was very gentle and my cheeks grew red, knowing what was happening. But I didn't shy away. "Sev!" I gasped in shock.
"I think." He said lightly, running his tongue on my bottom lip. "I forgot to mention that I love you too."
"Something-" I gasped, trying to breathe, "something like that. . ."
He chuckled and rolled back onto his side of the bed, pulling me into him. I laid my head down on his chest.
"You're adorable you know." he murmured sleepily. "I swear I can hear your heart beating."
"Shut up." I muttered, pressing my face into his chest. He had such a unique smell like spices and herbs and the night and the forest all rolled into one. He put an arm around my shoulders, holding me there.
It didn't take long for me to fall asleep.
🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
𝕴𝖓 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝖒𝖔𝖗𝖓𝖎𝖓𝖌, he shook my awake.
"Wazitmazer?" I muttered.
"I don't speak whatever language you just spoke." He said, sounding amused. "But we have to go if you want to make it back up to the castle in time. I thought you were holding Quidditch practice today.
I sat up quickly. "Oh, that's right." I said, stretching. I swung my legs over the bed and slipped my shoes on. "We probably shouldn't go up together if Umbridge is looking." I turned into a cat. Then I sprung from the ground up onto his shoulder.
"Show off." He muttered. I batted him with my paw- claws in. He took me off his shoulder and held me in his arms, petting my head. I purred with content and he chuckled as he strode up the grass. He let me down in front of the Hufflepuff common room and then went down the hallway and nodded to me. I quickly checked the other corridor and then turned back into a human and went up to my dorm to get my Firebolt. (I had replaced my Nimbus with a Firebolt this year so that I was equal to Harry).
By ten o'clock, we were all out on the pitch, clutching our brooms and looking wide awake.
"Alright." I said, looking around at everyone. "Herbert, up in front of the goals, we're going to test you first. Zacharias- you first. We're going to act like the other two Chasers are down at the end of the pitch. Heidi, Malcolm, right now, your acting like the opposing team. Let's see how Zacharias does 1 v 2. Then we'll switch between the Chasers. I turned to our beaters. "James your on Zacharias' side, Maxine, opposite. We won't let out the snitch right now."
"Trying to get out of your job?" Zacharias asked.
"Shut up Zacharias." I snapped. Practice hadn't even started yet and I already regretted choosing him as Chaser. "I can't critique you guys if I'm busy looking for the Snitch. We'll do that later. Alright, everyone up."
Everyone flew up and I tossed the Quaffle up to Zacharias. "Alright! Start! I'm letting out the bludgers in two seconds!"
Zacharias started flying down to where Herbert was at. Heidi and Malcolm flew at him from two different directions- working with past Quidditch tactics. I let out the bludgers and James and Maxine swooped on the bludgers. Maxine hit her bludger towards Zacharias who did a good roll maneuver and then dodged Malcolm. Swerving around Heidi, Zacharias threw the Quaffle. Herbert dived for it and stopped it by an inch.
"Alright!" I shouted. "Heidi, you're up. Zacharias-" I ducked a bludger, "-you're on the team with Malcolm now!"
Herbert tossed the Quaffle to Heidi and she zoomed back to the other side of the pitch where Zacharias had started.
"Start!" I shouted, observing the plays. They each took turns. Herbert saved all but one which was good.
"Alright!" I said. "Good job Herbert! Now then," We flew back to the ground so we could talk. The bludgers would stay in the air. With a wave of my wand, the bludgers were zooming back to the ground and I locked them back in the trunk with the help of James.
"Alright so now, I want to give the Chasers a chance to score. Herbert, James, and I are going to be Chasers as well- on another team. Maxine, I want you to act as Keeper for now, alright? Herbert, James, and I aren't trying to score, only trying to get the Quaffle from Heidi, Malcolm, and Zacharias."
"Hey Elizabeth!" I heard someone shouting across the stadium. I looked over briefly and saw Lee, Fred, and George there. Harry, Hermione, and Ron were following. I gave a brief wave and then turned back to the team.
"Everyone understands what we're doing?" I asked, looking at all of them. They all nodded and then I said, "Alright, Maxine, up in the keepers spot. Heidi, Zacharias, Malcolm, I want you guys to start at the opposite end of the pitch, alright?"
I tossed the Quaffle at Heidi who caught it.
"You're okay playing in front of four Gryffindor Quidditch team members?" Zacharias asked incredulously.
I glared at him. "We shouldn't have to stop training because some people showed up. Would you ask the same question if the Slytherins showed up to watch?"
Zacharias shut his mouth and I beckoned to James and Herbert. Maxine was already flying in front of the hoops. I swooped up with the other two and then we did our flying tactics.
By the afternoon, we felt very pleased with our performance. If only I could change Zacharias' behavior.
"Now." I said in the locker room. "I am going to let you guys know that we aren't going to be able to get much practice in. The first match is Slytherin and Gryffindor and they're going to have the pitch booked nearly every night. Saturday afternoons are going to be our go-to times."
"Do you know who's going to win the match?" Zacharias asked.
I pursed my lips, "Why would I spoil it for you guys?"
"I heard the Gryffindor Keeper is rubbish." Zacharias said.
I pursed my lips together tighter. "Well-"
"Hem, hem!"
We all spun around to see Professor Umbridge there. My lips were so thin now they would've made Professor McGonagall proud.
"Can we help you?" I asked.
"I was just wondering what you thought you were doing Miss Kane, still being Quidditch Captain and all." She asked in her sugar sweet voice.
"I didn't realize it was any of your business." I said stiffly.
Professor Umbridge didn't answer right away and she looked at Heidi, Malcolm, and Herbert. "How did you become Quidditch Captain if there are others here that are older than you?"
I squeezed my fist tightly but answered as calmly as possible. "Cedric appointed me, before he went in to do the third task."
"You, instead of one of the more senior students?"
"We're proud to have her as our Captain." Heidi said suddenly. I blushed.
Professor Umbridge looked at her with that stupid smile on her face, "You're proud to have the daughter of a werewolf as your Quidditch Captain?"
"Yes." Malcolm said unexpectedly in his deep voice. He reminded me of Kingsley except he had a larger head of hair. "And we all like Professor Lupin too. Cedric appointed Elizabeth and she's our Captain now."
Professor Umbridge looked quite taken aback. Herbert, James, Maxine, and Zacharias looked from Professor Umbridge to the three of us. She turned to them. "And you guys?"
They all nodded, even Zacharias who I was sure would've said something. Her eyes flashed dangerously and said, "Detention tonight, Miss Kane."
"For what!" Heidi shouted outrageously.
"I've already warned her about her cheek."
Heidi opened her mouth and I stepped on her foot. "Doesn't matter, don't land yourself in detention too." Heidi closed her mouth. Malcolm and Herbert looked just as angry and when she left the locker room, they all turned to me.
"How does she get away with that?" Malcolm asked outrageously. Maxine shook her head and left the locker room. Herbert soon followed. The rest of us left in here were all in Dumbledore's Army.
"It's cause I told her it was none of business." I said, running a hand through my tangled hair. "Whatever, I'll just have my hand sliced open, but don't you guys land yourselves in detention defending me. It's not worth it. I'll see you guys later."
I shouldered my Firebolt and left the locker room. Fred, George, Lee, Harry, Ron, and Hermione were waiting for me some feet away.
"We saw Professor Umbridge leaving the locker room." Fred said. "What did she want?"
"Oh, that's right." I said. "I never told any of you about why she wouldn't put the Hufflepuff team back together."
I explained the whole thing as we headed back to the castle and by the time I was finished with the locker room story, they all looked very murderous except for maybe Ron.
"That's horrible." Hermione said, her eyes flashing. "I'm so glad Professor Sprout managed to get things pushed through for you."
"I'm not." I said glumly. "The next thing you'll know, she'll get put on probation just like Trelawney and it'll be all my fault."
The next two weeks passed wonderfully. I was still working with Rose and Grace on Wednesday and Friday. We had worked on Impediment jinxes and the Reductor Curse. I'd given Rose and Grace much easier (though hard for them) spells to work on.
The meetings had become very erratic but as Harry pointed out to all of us, this meant a pattern couldn't be found.
Hermione had me help her make contact Galleons, using the Protean Charm on them. It was a tricky charm but by the fourth meeting, we had them done.
Hermione explained what the Galleons did as I handed them out to each member. "You see the numerals around the edge of the coins? On real Galleons that's just a serial number referring to the goblin who cast the coin. On these fake coins, though, the numbers will change to reflect the time and date of the next meeting. The coins will grow hot when the date changes, so if you're carrying them in a pocket you'll be able to feel them. We take one each, and when Harry sets the date of the next meeting he'll change the numbers on his coin, and because Elizabeth and I have put a Protean Charm on them, they'll all change to mimic his."
Silence greeted Hermione's words. She looked around as I came back to stand next to her and said nervously, "Well- I thought it was a good idea. I mean, even if Umbridge asked us to turn out our pockets, there's nothing fishy about carrying a Galleon, is there? But. . . well, if you don't want to use them. . ."
"You two can do Protean Charms?" Terry asked.
"Yes." Hermione said. I just shrugged and grinned.
"But that's. . . that's N.E.W.T. standard, that is." Terry said in a weak voice.
"Oh. Oh. . . well. . . yes, I suppose it is. . ." Hermione said, trying not to sound proud of herself. I laughed.
"How come you guys aren't in Ravenclaw?" Terry demanded. "With brains like yours?"
"Well, the Sorting Hat did seriously consider putting me in Ravenclaw during my Sorting. But it decided on Gryffindor in the end." Hermione said brightly.
"The Sorting Hat was going to put my in Gryffindor, and then Slytherin and then Ravenclaw, and then decided on Hufflepuff." I said with a shrug.
"Does that mean we're using them?" Hermione asked.
"I already handed them out." I pointed out. Everyone laughed.
I'd had about five detentions of the past two weeks. Sometimes, my hand would start bleeding during class and by this time, a majority of the teachers and Madam Pomfrey knew what was written on the back of my hand. It was a wonder Dumbledore hadn't called me to his office.
I kept my head up though. I wasn't going to let Umbridge get to me. I wasn't going to let her stop me. I was in Dumbledore's Army. I was the daughter of a werewolf. I was a friend of a centaur. And she was never going to beat me down.

Glossing over problematic BL topics?...Thoughts on "Jazz for Two," namely episode 7.
Tumblr media
Let me preface by saying I wrote this so long ago, in June, but kept it as a draft. However, I just re-watched Jazz for Two, and ergo, I have returned to this topic. And I LOVED this drama, especially the two secondary storylines over the main, but here's the thing. Jazz for Two, for me, took quite a turn in episode 7, and it surprised me, mostly in a bad way, lol.
*Pointless rant with some valid points begins now.*
Assuming you’ve watched this already, I’m not giving too much context. Okay. So.
Tae Yi confronts Se/Seo Heon after Seo Heon kissed him some unnamed number of days ago. In this dark alleyway confrontation (I mean, of course, this is a K-drama), Tae Yi, by all means, seems disgusted by the idea of a non-hetero relationship. He even says, “Am I a girl to you?” or something like that (FYI iQIYI subs are always a bit sus. Like what am I paying you for?!?!). Then Tae Yi proceeds to assault, yes assault, Seo Heon.
Let me tell you, I LOVED Tae Yi and his moody, sad, thoughtful character up until this moment. "He's a kid, a teenage boy, lots to learn," sure, sure. But it was just so out of nowhere and unpleasant to watch. This poor child was assaulted in an alley by someone he trusted, let alone had feelings for.
Tumblr media
We then see that he realizes he was wrong. later. that. night? And no sis, not wrong for assaulting Seo Heon, but wrong about thinking Seo Heon was “stalking” him? If you've watch this already, you know Seo Heon was actually forced to come to Tae Yi’s uncle’s workplace because of Do Yoon (bless his heart), not because he was obsessed with seeing Tae Yi, as Tae Yi assumed.
Then, the next day *question mark*, Tae Yi apologizes (not really a complete or specific apology) and then kisses Se Heon... Then, next scene, they’re all giggly and heart eyes in class. Tae Yi also seems to have had a total personality change in a matter of ... what, hours? minutes?
It was cute to see them finally get together but…mmm. I mean, I hate to be anal about these things. It's a drama. But there's just missing time and explanation here. Logic left the room.
Mind you, when they first kissed, Tae Yi wiped his lips right in front of Seo Heon in the most annoyed, dismissive way, which was so heartbreaking to watch because Seo Heon's intentions were so pure.
So my question is, did feeling bad or sorry for the night alley incident make Tae Yi simultaneously realize his feelings for Seo Heon AND dismantle any negative ideas about gay relationships? Like, nah kid, there's no way.
He can be mad and angry and say things he doesn’t mean, but the things he says (like anyone) have some truth in them… “Am I a girl to you” while assaulting Seo Heon feels like he’s got a certain mindset about right and wrong types of love. In what way or to what extent or why is unclear because it just isn't addressed.
He could have said a million other things. "I don't like you that way." "I like girls." "Stop stalking me." The list goes on. At least, like, give us a scene where he sees two guys holding hands and thinks, mmm, okay, it isn't so bad, it's normal. But there's nothing. It's like they started a sentence and did not finish it.
Idk man, it just feels too glossed over and lackluster to me. Not to mention the problem with Seo Heon literally asking why Tae Yi is apologizing after the incident, like boy, do you not remember him pushing you to a wall and forcing his hands up your shirt? Poor child, you deserve better. I guess my strife is ultimately with when a problem is not addressed or acknowledged as a problem.
“It doesn’t matter who you like. I shouldn’t have touched you like that. I was wrong to say those things. Please forgive me…” like, where was this in Tae Yi’s apology? It sure wasn't in the room with them.
Actually, Tae Yi’s and Ju/Joo Ha’s (the villain bully boy of the drama) negativity toward gayness was surprising to me altogether, not because it isn’t realistic but because I didn’t expect THAT to be the reason they’d not accept their respective confessions when I started the show.
It’s been some time since I’ve seen a BL where the main conflict or reason the two leads were not able to get together was the genre itself: BL. It was a common thing in older, "first-generation" BLs, I think, compared to now. Basically, being gay or gayness is the thing the couple has to overcome to find a resolution and get together, something you’d never see as the conflict of a straight couple, mind you. How dare you be straight! Be gay right now!
Nowadays, straying a bit from the main topic here, BLs (not exclusively) have grown to have their own unique plots that go beyond being entirely about BL. Lots of the time, the fact the relationship(s) are two guys is not an issue at all. For instance, look at "Manner of Death" (or the more recent and similar "Spare Me Your Mercy"). Max and Tul being gay (bi? I'm not sure) and falling in love was not directly spoken about, nor was it really a conflict. They were no different from a straight couple in any mainstream drama. There was a plot and storyline, and the two main leads fell in love and just happened to both be guys. This is more normal in newer BLs, probably largely Thai ones, as they seem to run this genre from the get-go. Maybe this gayness being a problem or conflict to overcome is more common with BLs involving minors, because they don’t have as much freedom as adults. These are just my stream-of-consciousness thoughts at this point, ya'll. These are stray thoughts, not facts. Take everything with a grain of salt. Maybe two.
And yes, there will always be BLs where characters have a hard time accepting gayness or anything on the LGBTQ+ spectrum because that will be, for the unforeseeable future, accurate to the real world and the real struggles people face. Nonetheless, this drama just surprised me in this way. It's just been a while, I think, for me. Even more so for the negatively toward gayness to be from the couples themselves, rather than outside influences.
Ok, connecting this side rant to Jazz for Two: Up until episode 7, I never thought being a guy was going to be the reason Tae Yi didn’t accept Seo Heon. I thought it would be about overcoming Tae Yi’s trauma due to his brother’s death, dealing with how Seo Heon reminds him of his brother, finding happiness despite his loss, etc. Which, you know, the brother storyline on its own had plot holes -- like how did he study/play piano at the school but has never been seen or mentioned to the student body or teachers? But no matter.
Now I’m NOT saying you can't change your worldview or beliefs or whatever in mere seconds -- sure you can, anything is possible, especially when love is involved -- but it just felt underdeveloped and too clean-cut to me. Dramas don’t have to be realistic (they usually aren't), but this just felt half-done when it didn't have to be. Cut those fluffy scenes a bit and give us a bit of depth, is all I am saying.
I actually ended up liking the second main couple better, even though Joo Ha was/is a bully, and said some nasty things to Do Yoon, Do Yoon's sincerity (no but I love him, like really, ideal type, perfect, wonderful, amazing, 10/10, sign me up) and Joo Ha realizing and coming to accept how he feels was wonderful to watch. Like that is what I came for.
Unlike Tae Yi, we see Joo Ha’s feelings and him coming to terms with him being a guy, liking a guy. We don’t get that sort of visual growth or explanation with Tae Yi, it just sort of happens. Joo Ha still has a long way to go, and I’m scared Do Yoon will get hurt again, but I can’t help but root for them. Joo Ha's faults were clearly shown, and we saw his growth overtime, his internal struggle, and for that, I liked their storyline better.
I could go on to outline a five-paragraph essay explaining why this show had two of the most unlikable (but not unredeemable) MLs. But I won't submit you to that torture.
Tumblr media
There’s no other conclusion to be had here other than the fact this minor lack of substance/logic/whatever you'd call it bugged the hell out of me. Anyways, I did still love this drama, and will definitely re-watch it. Maybe I'll skip ep 7, though. Lol.

Guys, look, I hate JKR as much as the next Harry Potter fan but some of y'all are reaching with these accusations of portrayed bigotry in the franchise.
"Look, Moody's name is Mad-Eye which proves that JKR thinks people with disabilities are ugly and insane!" Guys, Mad-Eye is his in-universe nickname - the nickname other wizards give him to be cruel. And he's just reclaimed it.
"The stars on the Gringotts floor in the films have five points like the Star of David, proving that the goblins are anti-Semitic stereotypes!" The five-pointed star is a very common star shape used in background fantasy art. It's never once described in the books and also, JKR was not the art director. A bunch of Americans and such were. Most of the goblin shit is a mess but come on. Clearly a horrible coincidence.
"Uncle Vernon has a lazy eye and he's an abuser! So JKR thinks all people with lazy eyes are evil! She's so ableist!" Uncle Vernon the character does not have a lazy eye. It's never ONCE a part of his character in the books OR in the movies. Richard Griffiths, the actor for Vernon, had a lazy eye (or glass eye, struggling to find out which) which is only evident in a handful of scenes he's in. It's never mentioned. It's pure happenstance. And suggesting that the actor having a disability is ableist is...um...yikes?
These are all REAL THINGS I've seen people say. JKR is behind a lot of shit but she's not some mastermind behind every apparent form of bigotry in the entire franchise. Stop giving her so much credit, hot damn.

I’m just gonna ramble about the AU with Two Face’s niece Carla now. Cause why not. Also it’s now named Two Scar.
Carla is the one that brought Two Face back into his family.
He was standing outside all moody in the cold on Christmas, like he usually did after his accident.
(Regretting the fact he sacrificed the family he had for his career.)
And then he dove into a bush when the little dark haired girl who had been laughing and running around at the party, was staring out the window back at him.
She told her mom she wanted to go outside and see Santa. Her mom, thinking she was just being silly. For SOME REASON agreed to let her daughter bring cookies to”Santa” alone in the cold.
(Her dad was getting drunk with da boys and her mom needed to keep an eye on him so he didn’t cause a ruckus in front of children… aka she doesn’t have the best family but hey not the worst!… unless.)
Carla instantly found a shivering Two Face in the bush, and offered him the cookies. Which he kinda complained about until… warm.
She talked with him while he ate, and he told her he was the Toy Man not Santa. He also was doing his best to keep the bad side turned away from her, since he didn’t want to scare her.
(She had seen it already. Wasn’t phased in the slightest.)
He asks her name and how old she is, she’s really proud of being 6. He’s really sad he missed her entire life before now.
He tells Carla to go back inside, because the cold is bad for growing girls. She asks if he wants to come inside. Two Face thinks about it? But then gets scared and tells her he’s busy and has to get going.
Before she goes in, he hands her a doll. And she brings it in with her. Much to her mother’s terror.
Two Face does his best to not show how he’s not the most mentally stable when he’s around Carla
Both Harvey, and Big Harv love Carla. She’s actually the reason he stops committing crime…. Mostly.
But what started as a joke by Harv to mess with Harvey? Turned into “don’t traumatize the kid”.
They both front near her! And get time to hang out and play. But they do their best to… not really show that happening.
So until the time Carla finally got up the courage to ask, in her 20s? She had assumed she only knew Harvey.
Which shocked her when the side she asked was Harv at the moment.
He found it hilarious.
(I know that’s not the healthiest thing to do? I also know some people will get mad. I’m kinda basing how I react to certain people in my life tho. Sometimes you mask because saftey? Others because that’s just not a close enough relationship to know, or you don’t want to be seen as… different. Kinda sucks? But I think Two Face does that as a natural reflex. Yes this is all headcanon. I’m just playing him how I think he would react. Pls do you own at your own leasure)
Carla takes after her Uncle in ways that honestly terrify him
Carla liked playing court with her ex-lawyer uncle so much? She decided to become one. He… wasn’t thrilled. Mostly just terrified for her, since that’s what got him hurt.
She’s kinda chased in the office and around, most people think she’s really cute. Two Face has threatened to kill for that, she nearly lets him.
(More of a… after work call than a wanna date? Call…. If you catch my drift.)
Jason Todd ends up getting a school boy crush on her, which… she’s older than him. He outgrows it. But uhm… that’s a tie in that makes Batman more uncomfortable than Two Face.
She gets a scar on her right side in a gang attack on her and Jason, run by the Joker. Jason dies in that attack. She loses most sight in her right eye. And has a nasty scar on her cheek.
She has a temper after her accident. Mostly being the fact she stopped taking shit and instead started dealing it when people went for her, or those she loved. That paired with her change in dressing style TERRIFIED Two Face, thinking she would go on to gang life.
(Carla stays a lawyer. She just defends herself. Actually learned some of that from Batman. Who stand on the sidelines nodding and thumbs up ping as she beats people down.)
That’s long enough. Lol. Enjoy!
(This au belongs to both myself, and @sealmonger )

'I am about to attempt to break into your mind,’ said Snape softly. ‘We are going to see how well you resist. I have been told that you have already shown aptitude at resisting the Imperius Curse. You will find that similar powers are needed for this … brace yourself, now. Legilimens!’ Snape had struck before Harry was ready, before he had even begun to summon any force of resistance. The office swam in front of his eyes and vanished; image after image was racing through his mind like a flickering film so vivid it blinded him to his surroundings. He was five, watching Dudley riding a new red bicycle, and his heart was bursting with jealousy … he was nine, and Ripper the bulldog was chasing him up a tree and the Dursleys were laughing below on the lawn … " ... “Did you see everything I saw?’ Harry asked, unsure whether he wanted to hear the answer. ‘Flashes of it,’ said Snape, his lip curling. ‘To whom did the dog belong?’ ‘My Aunt Marge,’ Harry muttered, hating Snape.
OOtP Ch. 24
‘We thought we’d just have a few words with you about Harry,’ said Mr Weasley, still smiling. “Yeah,’ growled Moody. ‘About how he’s treated when he’s at your place.’ Uncle Vernon’s moustache seemed to bristle with indignation. . . . “The point is, if we find out you’ve been horrible to Harry -‘ ‘- And make no mistake, we’ll hear about it,’ added Lupin pleasantly. ‘Yes,’ said Mr Weasley, ‘even if you won’t let Harry use the fellytone -‘ ‘Telephone,’ whispered Hermione. ‘- Yeah, if we get any hint that Potter’s been mistreated in any way, you’ll have us to answer to,’ said Moody. Uncle Vernon swelled ominously. His sense of outrage seemed to outweigh even his fear of this bunch of oddballs. ‘Are you threatening me, sir?’ he said, so loudly that passers-by actually turned to stare. ‘Yes, I am,’ said Mad-Eye, who seemed rather pleased that Uncle Vernon had grasped this fact so quickly.
OOtP Ch. 38
I'm far from the first to point out the correlation between these two moments and the implication that Snape, having seen Harry's memories of the Dursleys' abuse, alerted the rest of the Order who then acted on it (and there's some good meta out there on how it's not until an adult speaks up for Harry that action is taken, even though the Weasley kids tell their parents about his mistreatment as far back as CoS, but I've read miles of meta this week and literally can't find the link).
The idea that Snape watched Petunia stand there and laugh at Harry with her family, having known her as a child. The idea of him, of all people, noticing the overlarge clothes and malnourishment and various signs of neglect. The idea of him having dedicated his life to protecting Harry in order to make amends for his role in Lily's death and to make her sacrifice worthwhile only to see that her sister actively and deliberately failed to do the bare minimum when he was entrusted to her care.
The idea that Snape only realized that the scene wasn't a one-off bad memory, that it was Harry's family finding entertainment in his torment, because he recognized Petunia and put two and two together.
The second Snape gets a glimpse into Harry's childhood he sees neglect and abuse. He's never liked Petunia and probably hasn't thought of her in years and here she is, in a memory, the face he knew as a child all grown up now, laughing derisively with the same cruelty she showed Snape himself years earlier but now directing it at her sister's child instead of taking care of him when Snape is risking his life for the kid. I can imagine his anger went well beyond just giving him a different perspective on Harry and this insight being the first moment he saw Harry as more than just an echo of James.
The idea that Snape knows Harry is bound to keep going back to that house because of the magical protection it gives him, while also knowing that this is all the protection he's afforded there. There's a parallel in there to Snape's own choices as the books progress, between the lesser of two terrible choices.

Blackborne — House of Black characters
For @artemisia-black.
Arcturus Black III: The Paterfamilias and Lord of the House of Black and great-grandfather of Leonis Black. Known as the 'Serpent of the Somme', 'the Bringer of the Black Night', and 'The Viper of the House of Black', Arcturus was one of the few wizards whom the Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald feared among all others. But now? Now he is a tired, broken old man who lives with the ghosts of his failures. He failed his son Orion. He failed his grandsons Sirius and Regulus. He failed his family. It is only through Leonis, the last and best hope of The Constellation, that Arcturus has a chance at redemption. Cassiopeia Black: Dotty, secretive, and ruddy brilliant — there are many words to describe Cassiopeia Black. She lives alone in her home in the village of Tinworth, in Cornwall, with her house-elf Gippy and her library. She is also one of the most brilliant Arithmancers of the 20th century. She never believed that Sirius was guilty, never truly believed in blood purism (though, as Arcturus is loath to remember, served Gellert Grindelwald), and fills very much the 'mad scientist' vibe. Andromeda Tonks (née Black): Godmother and guardian of Leonis, she has raised her little cousin since his mother Cassandra (née Adler) was murdered by Evan Rosier in November 1981. The Malfoys had petitioned for Leonis to be surrendered to their care, they were far more capable of giving him everything he wanted, and Narcissa used the fact her sister had been disowned from The Constellation against her. It seemed lost except for two things — the first was Sirius' living will, which stated that Andromeda was to get custody of his son if his wife was unable to do so, and the second was Arcturus Black. The two met and, after a few rows, agreed... Andromeda would raise Leonis as Heir to the House, with a (nearly) free reign in the matter, while Arcturus would be able to host the boy during the summers, Yule (Christmas), New Year’s, and the boy's birthday on 29 July. Edward "Ted" Tonks: There is a saying, "there are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man". Ted Tonks fulfills that last fear. He is kind and gentle and warm, the stereotypical Hufflepuff, however... however... Leonis Black is as good as his son. And he will defend his son to the best of his ability. He is skilled with a wand, brilliant, and a talented wizard. Arcturus has slowly come to accept him as a "barely" acceptable son-in-law. Nymphadora ("stop calling me that!")
