Hey so fun fact about video games: there's a group online trying to force international precedent in order to prevent game companies from making their games online only and then shutting them down forever. In particular, they're in the preliminary stages of a lawsuit against ubisoft in brazil over the game "the crew" shutting down and are trying to gather information on how many people are affected. Ubisoft Brazil knew what they were doing when they made this trailer. It’s supposed to hype up the game but it hype me into wanting to re-watch all my favorite Tokusatsu series again!

But it like my theory about how Yasuke was going to look like in Shadows under codename red. I figure “Hmm okay we are back to modern descendants genetic dna with Red. So either abstergo find his descendants, or his corpse is in the surrounding countries. Hmm let me check African ancestry in Asia!”
And lo and behold I found out the descriptions of real life yasuke matches those of African mercenaries that were actives in places like Goa India which in a ac history podcast that Ubisoft have was referenced.
So I imagine him look like a Southeast African with a East African accent
And boom, that model yasuke after one, hired a Zambian actor to voice and Mocap him, and later in the character guide, confirms for their fictional version of him. They are using the theory that he came from Mozambique which was a Portuguese Colony and part of the Indian Ocean slave trade
That’s my issues with the whole black characters thing…despite the racists idiots among us. A midwestern black can be very different from one who like from Brazil

That was one of the fun things being brought up when the articles about Black Panther being 'hella diverse' were coming out, they had to figure out how to make diversity NOT about skin colour for once, granted they went right back to it being about skin colour right after so it's not like they learned anything from it, but it was nice to see for once.

If you have to change the race of characters to gain your representation is it really saying you're looking for anything more than skin colour.
Feels like a new kind of tokenism at this point, 'we're going to remake X movie word for word shot for shot and the only thing we're going to change is the cast is black now' is not representation.
Not saying they need to do the thing like they did in American Fiction with the dialogue switch, but my goodness do something.
Dr Doolittle is a good example, og movie stared Rex Harrison a stuffy white dude, then we got Eddie Murphy in there for a few movies playing him, then RDJ popped in to be him (should have seen the look on the faces of the people that cried "whitewashing" when that was announced after they were shown the poster from the 1967 film) but all the different movies played well because even if it's the same story it's different, Baz Luhrmann's way of doing Romeo and Juliet is a good example of using the original text but still making the story look and feel different.

I don't know why Ubisoft is ashamed of their silent first-person Animus user period. It was actually really neat to look inside Abstergo's fancy-evil corporate guts and see Shaun and Rebecca slip in incognito. The implications of Numbskull's coerced initiation are fantastic, and you got these delicious soundbites of Juhani Otso Berg's interactions with Warren Vidic and Violet Da Costa.
Not to mention that at this period in time, Ubisoft seems to have mastered weaving the modern-day plot into the memory you're playing. It's smooth, it feels like it drives the story forward, and you still get to enjoy the past timeline.
(Desmond sneaking into the soccer stadium in Brazil during ACIII and all those tunnels you have to explore as Layla felt exhausting. At least Layla's gave you a nice look at how she's literally walking in Kassandra's footsteps, but those caves get repetitive.)

There's an EU initiative going on right now that essentially boils down to wanting to force videogame publishers with paid games and/or games with paid elements such as DLC, expansions and microtransactions to leave said games in a playable state after they end support, or in simpler terms, make them stop killing games.
A "playable state" would be something like an offline mode for previously always online titles, or the ability for people to host their own servers where reasonably possible just to name some examples.
I don't think I need to tell anyone that having something you paid for being taken from you is bad, which is a thing that routinely happens with live service and other always online games with a notable recent example being The Crew which is now permanently unplayable.
Any EU citizen is eligible to sign the initiative, but only once and if you mess up that's it. You can find it here. (https://citizens-initiative.europa.eu/initiatives/details/2024/000007_en)
Even if you're not European or you signed it already, you can share this initiative with anyone who is, even if they don't care about videogames specifically because this needs a million signatures and there is different thresholds that need to be met for each EU country for their votes to even count and could also be a precedent for other similar practices like when Sony removed a bunch of Discovery TV content people paid for.

I'm grabbing my fancy ass Rainbow Havaianas (not Chanclas. The original ones that everybody uses) for you guys.
What the fuck knuckles was the scene in São Paulo in AC3?
Did... Did you guys never even bother to send someone there?
People were dressed as if it was Carnaval or if they were in Rio (swimsuits, seriously? São Paulo is cold as balls.)
There's Festa Junina decorations. Carnaval is in February/March, while Festa Junina is in June, ok?
They were speaking with a heavy Portugal accent. That's like making a British character that speaks in a heavy Midwestern accent.
There were flags everywhere, and that's not a thing here.
There are stalls selling flags and flag T-shirts, what only happens during the World Cup.
São Paulo has the best Subway/Underground system in the country. And it's bigger than NYC.
And a fight? It would never have that level of audience here. If it was Football, I'd buy it. (No offence to the fans, but seriously, it's not that big of a sport here)
Did you guys just threw "Brazil" on Google images and went from there? No consultants? At all?
Come on! Any Brazilian would gladly be the consultant for a six pack and a high five.
As a Brazilian, it was hard. And painful. That hurt. Physically hurt me to see that on the screen.
Fuck up with history. Trade stuff for the "cool factor", we'll gladly overlook it because we can look stuff up and get better informed. But do not fuck up on people's countries. That's disrespectful. Most people won't bother to look into actuality.
And, yes, I've gotten weird ass questions about my country. I've been asked if everything is a party here. I've been asked if it's Carnaval all year (do I need to answer?). I've been asked if São Paulo or Rio is the capital (it's Brasília). If everywhere is a beach. Why I'm not that pretty golden tan like Giselle (because if I spend 5 minutes under the sun, I'll become a lobster 🦞). If I can samba or play football (not even if my life depended on it).
And those are the tame questions I've gotten.
So, please, don't do that again. Don't fuck up like that again. Don't hurt your fans like that again.

If you don't wanna set aside 30 minutes to watch this (though I recommend you do anyway), the gist is he's using the most egregious example of this (Ubisoft killing The Crew) as an opportunity to attack the practice on as many fronts as possible.

If you care about actually owning the things you buy, or about the preservation of media, I highly recommend you check it out. Particularly if you live in Australia, Brazil, Canada, or the EU, and/or bought The Crew.
