USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) (formerly CVA-67), the only ship of her class, is an aircraft carrier, formerly of the United States Navy. Considered a supercarrier, she is a variant of the Kitty Hawk class, and the last conventionally-powered carrier built for the Navy, as all carriers since have had nuclear propulsion.
— in Los Angeles, CA, United States.

.... D a n g e r Z o n e ....
An iconic F-14B Tomcat fighter jet awaits the first launch of the day aboard now-decommissioned United States Navy aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy (CV 67) in January 2000 -- 20 years ago.
(For anyone over about about age 40, can’t you just hear the strains of “Danger Zone” running through your head when you see this photo?!)
(Remember F-14 pilot Tom Cruise in the movie “Top Gun”?!)
F-14 Tomcat
The F-14 was decommissioned from U.S. Navy service in 2006....and USS John F. Kennedy (CV 67) was retired in 2007.
(OK....so this is a #ThrowbackThursday entry!)
(If your under 40....here’s what us less-young folk are talking about....)
Danger Zone
Revvin' up your engine
Listen to her howlin' roar
Metal under tension
Beggin' you to touch and go
Highway to the danger zone
Ride into the danger zone
Headin' into twilight
Spreadin' out her wings tonight
She got you jumpin' off the deck
And shovin' into overdrive
Highway to the danger zone
I'll take you
Ridin' into the danger zone
You'll never say hello to you
Until you get it on the red line overload
You'll never know what you can do
Until you get it up as high as you can go
Out along the edges
Always where I burn to be
The further on the edge
The hotter the intensity
Highway to the danger zone
Gonna take you
Right into the danger zone
-- as sung in 1986 by Kenny Loggins (1948 ~ )
