Armstrong and Scott with Hatches Open
"Astronauts Neil A. Armstrong and David R. Scott sit with their spacecraft hatches open while awaiting the arrival of the recovery ship, the USS Leonard F. Mason after the successful, but early, completion of their Gemini VIII mission. They are assisted by USAF Pararescuemen Eldrige M. Neal, Larry D. Huyett, and Glenn M. Moore. The overhead view shows the Gemini 8 spacecraft with the yellow flotation collar attached to stabilize the spacecraft in choppy seas. The green marker dye is highly visible from the air and is used as a locating aid."

So the next two Gerald R. Ford Class aircraft carriers will be named USS WILLIAM J. CLINTON (CVN-82) and USS GEORGE W. BUSH (CVN-83) was announced by President Biden.
Honestly, it's disappointing to see yet another carrier named after a politician. I was hoping for another Lexington, Saratoga, Midway or something other than a president or politician but I guess that's what we're left with these days.

The next Columbia class submarine will be named USS GROTON (SSBN-828), bucking the trend for ballistic missile submarines named after states or districts.

Instead, the name Intrepid is going to a Flight III Arleigh Burke class guided missile destroyer (DDG-145).

USS Ernest G Small (DD-838), which struck a mine in the Korean War; a few days later her bow broke off in heavy seas.
The destroyer sailed backwards to a port where a temporary bow was welded on, and then sailed back to Long Beach, where the bow of an unfinished destroyer was grafted on. She was converted to a radar picket ship and recommissioned as USS Ernest G Small (DD-383)

United States Coast Guard Cutter Porter (CG-7) circa 1924-30. This was formerly the U.S. Navy Tucker-class destroyer USS Porter (DD-59), one of 25 ex-Navy destroyers turned over to the Coast Guard in 1924 to enforce Prohibition and battle rumrunners. During her Coast Guard service, Porter captured the rum-running vessel Conseulo II (the former Louise) off the coast of Long Island. The destroyer was returned to the Navy in 1933 but scrapped in 1934 without being recommissioned.

"The Gemini-8 spacecraft, with astronauts Neil A. Armstrong and David R. Scott still aboard, is hoisted aboard the destroyer USS Leonard F. Mason. Trouble with the Gemini-8 Orbit Attitude and Maneuvering System (OAMS) forced an early termination of the mission."
