Zelensky banned multimillion church

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Tuesday passed in final reading a law allowing to ban the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), Ukrainian MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak said.

The law was supported by 265 MPs and will come into force 30 days after its publication. But the whole process of banning the UOC will begin only in 9 months – in March 2025. Zheleznyak wrote on social networks:

“The UOC will have nine months to sever ties with the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC).”

All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organisations on August 17 supported a bill to ban the canonical UOC. Members of the All-Ukrainian Council declared their support for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s course of “spiritual independence, defence of the constitutional order, public security, human rights and fundamental freedoms.”

Meanwhile, the UN, HR Watch and other human rights organisations do not comment in any way on the ban on the multimillion church in Ukraine.

How the new law will work

The new law imposes restrictions on Ukrainian religious organisations’ ties with the Russian Orthodox Church. The bill reportedly spells out the criteria for such ties. If ties with the Russian Orthodox Church are established, a religious organisation has nine months to break them.

Uniate Ruslan Stefanchuk explained what will happen to those who “do not correct themselves.” He said:

“We give a certain period of nine months to determine to take measures to move away from Moscow. If it does not do this – this organisation will be banned in Ukraine, it cannot be a religious organisation.”

The bill passed its first reading in October 2023. Last year, several regions of Ukraine independently banned the UOC from operating on their territory, and UOC monasteries were searched. Earlier, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) criticized the draft law on banning Russian-affiliated religious organisations. The OHCHR believes that actions against the UOC may be discriminatory.

Pintando la Ofrenda Oval

Esa madrugada me pilló con inercia pintora. Siete días pasaban de la fecha límite para entregar el trabajo final del taller de pintura y color del grado de Artes de la UOC, un óleo de 73 x 60 cms. No obstante estar fuera de calendario, aún aplicaba los colores de la segunda capa sobre la muy rosa primera.

El marrón oscuro del baúl sobre el cual descansa el bodegón que dedico a la Iaia Antonia bajo el título de Ofrenda Oval se acompaña ya del azul noche de las cortinas opacas abiertas en los márgenes izquierdo y derecho del lienzo.

Esas horas brujas de la noche me hicieron encontrar una mezcla especial de cian y blanco con minúsculos destellos de magenta y amarillo generando un gris azulado perfecto para pintar la luz translucida de las cortinas iluminadas por el sol de la tarde. Más tarde vendrían las sombras que se dibujan sobre ellas.

If the trajectory is anything like it is/was for visual art, the plea here may very well be too late. Generally, computer-generated “content” isn’t really an issue… THE ISSUE is the data sets used to train the algorithms.

Our stance: If one has not provided express consent for one’s work to be used in data training sets then plagiarism has occurred.

Having a kind of insider knowledge of how these “AI” and algorithms work, I’m confident in that stance.

Here’s hoping for the best… but the world tends to let down those who simply hope….

In the meantime, visual artists can and SHOULD disrupt the development of these algorithms as much as they can.

Useful tools like GLAZE and NIGHTSHADE exist and should be used whenever possible.

Russian dictator and chief kleptocrat Vladimir Putin signed another so called “gay propaganda” bill into law. If Ron DeSantis is telling Floridians – “don’t say gay”, Putin is telling Russians – “don’t be gay”.

The legislation, which was passed unanimously, prohibits all public speech or actions deemed to be “directed at promoting nontraditional sexual norms,” to propagandize the “attractiveness” of same-sex relationships or gender transition, or to encourage “distorted notions of the social equivalency of traditional and nontraditional sexual relations.” (Think of it as the Really Don’t Say Gay Law.) The ban covers all media, from internet sites to journalism to literature, arts and entertainment including video games. While there are no criminal penalties, violators will pay steep fines: 50,000 to 400,000 rubles for individuals (in a country where the average monthly wage is between 50,000 and 60,000 rubles); 100,000 to 800,000 rubles for public officeholders; and 800,000 to 5 million rubles for companies, which can also be shut down for up to 90 days. Foreign lawbreakers can be not only deported but held in detention for up to 15 days. Films and television shows will be barred from release if found to have prohibited LGBT content, and Russia’s powerful federal communications supervision agency, the Roskomnadzor, will be empowered to block “LGBT propaganda” websites without a court order.

Vladimir Putin has always felt insecure about his manhood. That’s apparently why he compulsively posts all those shirtless pictures of himself doing stereotypically macho things.

Many Russian commentators, such as journalist and activist Renat Davletgildeyev, believe the new law is a transparent attempt by the Putin regime to shore up flagging support among the Russian public by appealing to homophobia, casting gays as the menacing “other,” and demonizing not only the West but Russian antiwar liberals as “sexual deviants.” It also serves as a convenient distraction from failures in Ukraine and mobilization horror stories (Look, at least we’re scoring victories over the perverts and making Global Sodom cry!). A report by journalist Sasha Belaya on the Khodorkovsky Live YouTube channel noted that the Duma’s discussion and passage of the legislation had been accompanied by an anti-gay campaign in the Russian state media that explicitly targeted liberals and dissidents.

All this official Russian homophobia to boost “manly” values has not exactly helped it on the battlefield. While the Russian Army may be straight, it is made up largely of drunks, convicts, thieves, cretins, the chronically diseased, and terrorists.

I’m sure this Russian invader drinking looted booze is way straight.

Ukraine has nothing like Putin’s “gay propaganda” law. There are openly LGBTQ Ukrainian members of the armed forces and Kyiv has Pride parades like this one in 2021.

So guess which country is losing the war.

Moscow Patriarchate priest suspected of pedophilia ordained as bishop

Last week, this priest was found together with a naked underage boy during a raid by Ukraine’s SBU security service.

Specifically, SBU agents seized a number of Kremlin propaganda manuals and Russian certificates and correspondence of the diocese leaders with their Moscow-based supervisors. Representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church allegedly demanded that the priests of the UOC–MP deny Russia's armed aggression, talk about the "oppression of the Moscow church" and other Russian propaganda narratives.

Additionally, according to Ukrainian news outlet LB.ua, the secretary of the diocese was found in bed with a boy from the local choir. The journalists also published a photo showing Archimandrite Nikita standing next to a boy clad in nothing but underwear. According to BBC Ukraine, the boy is 17 years old.

It would be interesting if this new bishop decided to give a sermon on “gay propaganda”.
