Jikook Week 40 Complete (10/09 - 17/09/2024)

Their 40th week in the military is now complete and Jimin and Jungkook have completed 50% of their time in the military. It's time to celebrate this milestone with a look back at this week in 2021.

The release of the MOTS: ONE DVD caused a stir this week. On 10/09, ARMY Twitter was buzzing with the news that Jimin had left a mark on JK's neck while JK was twirling him in his arms during late a night drinking session.

Jimin said it was a bite but on-line consensus concluded it was in fact a hickey (love bite). Look at Jin's reaction if you have any doubts about which is more likely.

As Rome burned, Jimin & Jungkook posted selcas on TwiX. Why do I get the feeling they were giggling into the phones as they did this.

BTS's youth ambassadorship was underway and the members were getting ready to go to New York to make a speech at the UNGA.

On 14/09, BTS met President Moon Jae-in at the Blue House to receive their certificate of appointment as Special Presidential Envoy for Future Generations & Culture. 

On 18/09, BTS flew to NYC & Jimin posted this beautiful jikook photo

and on 20/09 BTS appeared at the UN and recorded a live version of Permission to Dance. Busy, busy times for them all......

I'm curious, I've been following you a minute now and what is Iyami from? and what is it about him that makes you so lustful?

Iyami is a character from the 60s gag manga Osomatsu-kun and its animated adaptations, including the most recent one, Osomatsu-san!

Despite being virtually unknown in the west, Osomatsu-kun is very, very well-known and beloved in Japan (think something like Scooby-Doo or Wacky Races) and a big part of it is due to Iyami! It was aimed at kids and teens and it was about the wacky hijinks of the Matsuno brothers, a group of identical sextuplet fourth graders. Iyami was a supporting character and minor antagonist, a sly con man who’s always trying to make a quick buck out of the Matsunos with the help of his street urchin friend Chibita.

However, Iyami ended up being the most well-known character of the franchise, rising to main character status due to his trademark habit of striking a funny pose when he’s startled, the “sheeh” which became somewhat of a meme in 60s Japan! It was so famous they got the Beatles to do it when they visited Japan and Godzilla did it in a movie.

Osomatsu-san is much more well known to western audiences, being an spin-off more geared towards a young adult audience and set 10-odd years into the future with the sextuplets each having their own distinct personalities. It’s also pretty well liked on its own in Japan, having first aired in 2015 and having its third season wrap up in 2021, although the third movie of the series just aired a few months ago and future seasons not being off the table! In it, Iyami is again in a supporting role but he’s still pretty great (at least to me!) and has been my favorite ever since I’ve first watched the show in 2016.

As to why he makes me go full unga bunga caveman, I guess he just embodies a lot of characteristics I like! I love goofy characters, I love cartoony villains, I think wonky teeth is a super cute trait… he’s just the perfect silly guy to me!

For anybody who has been studiously ignoring the Russian machinations in America I would advise that it is time to pay attention. The world is heading into very dangerous territory with extreme greed and caveman bullying tactics leading the charge. Democracy has always largely been about the art of persuasion, ever since those early days in ancient Athens. Getting the vote via scare campaigns and corruption have been with us for millennia.

Some 400 million people are being coerced and manipulated by special interest forces like corporate lobbyists. The system has been corrupted and taken over by these vested interests to the detriment of ordinary Americans. Americans know this but half of them are rusted onto the camp controlled by the worst aspect of this distortion of democracy. The GOP lead with social issues and gather their support around identity politics. Christian Nationalism, anti-woke BS, white supremacy, and the intolerance for things like gender and sexual preference diversity. Meanwhile they are in bed with big business and the rentier economy, which has been decimating the wealth of the middle class since Reagan. Russian Bots Fuelling The Polarisation Of America Much of the inflammatory stuff on the Internet has been coming from Russian bots for many years. Winding up folk on forums and in online chat rooms is a Russian speciality. Spreading disinformation via the Internet and on social media in particular has been a winning strategy for Putin. Many Americans are too dumb to get this. Lots of ordinary folk have no idea how the Internet actually works. Ignorance provides a great operating ground for those with a dark intent to do their stuff. It has been an incredibly cost effective means of paralysing American democracy. The 2016 election of Donald Trump was greatly aided by the Russians spreading anti-Hilary Clinton stuff online. Fake news was rife on social media about Hilary. Americans are used to the lies and misinformation during elections, just this time it was coming from outside of the country for the purposes of spreading disinformation. Similarly, the Russians were at it big time in Britain in the lead up to the Brexit vote. Britain leaving the EU was a big win for Putin – it weakened both Britain and the EU. If you look at the last decade much of it has been taken up with Trump. Trump has filled the airwaves with chaotic crap about him everywhere you look. The nation has never been more polarised. Threats of violence from Trump supporters are never far away, as they try to lean on the institutions protecting democracy. Men resorting to caveman bullying and violence as exemplified by the January 6th, 2021, insurrection at the Capital. Extremism is most often a reactionary response to societal anxiety by a section of the community. Following the pandemic we have seen the rise of far right groups and Naziism in terms of increased visibility and numbers participating in marches and demonstrations. Fear of death is a powerful call to action but it can lead some in the wrong direction. Trump makes a habit of saying shocking things in public. This keeps him in the news and in the public eye. He is buffoon-like and this becomes a mitigating factor in the mind’s of many of his supporters. “Oh, that is only Trump talking!” However, around the orange Jesus are some very serious and nasty people capable of doing untold damage to the lives of many Americans. Indeed, history tells us that a similar false sense of levity surrounded Adolf Hitler in his early years. Many Germans did not take him too seriously until he became the Fuhrer. Of course, by then it was too late and the dictator went on to kill tens of millions of people globally. American democracy is becoming undone by the forces coalescing around Trump. Stupidity, greed, and the politics of grievance are fuelling the popularity of Trump’s second coming. Putin is in his corner, of course, pulling strings wherever he can. It has been four weeks since Palestinian trade unions released an urgent call for action, calling on international trade unions to take action to halt the arms trade to Israel. The CLC is silent.

Last month, 240+ Canadian unions, labour councils, faith groups, and Arab, Jewish, and civil society organizations released a joint statement. Together, they're calling on the Government of Canada to call for an immediate ceasefire of all hostilities in Israel-Palestine, to end the blockade of Gaza, and for the restoration of humanitarian aid and access to the basic necessities of life. Still, the CLC is silent.

On October 28th, the Canadian Government shamefully abstained on the vote of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) emergency resolution for an immediate and humanitarian truce in Gaza. The CLC is silent.

Tell the CLC to call for a #CeasefireNow!

As a pan-Canadian network of labour activists who work to deepen solidarity with Palestinian workers and people in their struggle for liberation, we call on the CLC to honour its 2021 resolution. The resolution was clear: it committed the CLC to oppose Israel’s ethnic cleansing in Palestine, call on the Canadian government to end arms sales to Israel, and support divestment from companies complicit in the occupation.

Join us in sending a message to the CLC that silence on this issue is complicity. It is time to take a stand.
