Demurra Foxworth, daughter of Nibs and Jenny Foxworth.
Dude in yellow: Genie.
Other dude: Coach Jenkins (canon).
Explanation: it said somewhere Genie was a teacher so since most of the coaches I knew doubled as a teacher, I figured he was this dude. Also I thought it would be funny because I saw a theory that Coach Jenkins was the Genie in this fanfiction and no one ever really mentions this dude, so I asked myself 'WHAT IF HE WAS THE GENIE' like I was in an episode of watcher.
I'm also just lazy and couldn't really picture him as one of the mentioned teachers. So...
Also ngl people don't write enough about Coach Jenkins, the one true MVP adult in descendants and that's a shame.

I’ll admit that I’m new to fanfiction and far more comfortable writing from the perspectives of my own characters because I know them better than those created by other writers.
So far, my bg3 fics has been entirely written from either Charrelin’s or Tyra’s perspectives, as I’m not bold enough to do my own takes on the established characters as I’m worried I’ll write them inaccurately or completely miss the point.
Does anyone have any tips?

Favorite Movie: It depends. If I want to watch something I enjoy, I really like Perfect Blue, Wendell and Wild, Reanimator, My Blue Heaven (1990), or Young Frankenstein. I also really enjoy Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls atm— If I’m stoned, probably either Jingle All The Way, Tony Hawk’s Boom Boom Sabotage, Goat Story, or The Cat In The Hat live action adaptation.
Favorite TV Show: Two that come to mind right now are Cunk on Earth and Derry Girls!
Favorite Music Artist: Not sure, but Rob Zombie is a nostalgic artist for me
Favorite Color: Probably basil green, but I like how olive green looks on me. Warm yellows are a close second and I’m growing to like shades of red and terracotta!
Favorite Season: Spring! Specifically earlier in spring when it’s really rainy.
Favorite Book: Depends on my mood. If I want to be entertained, Modelland by Tyra Banks. Google excerpts if you dare.
Do You Have Any Funko Pops? I have one collecting dust at my parents’ house of Abe Sapien from Hellboy.
Do you play an instrument? My parents cycled me through the piano, violin, and drums when I was young. I was also forced to be a choir kid. I currently do none of these things.
Do you have any pets? I have a black cat named Boo! We had a white cat who moved upstairs in October since Boo is an only child princess.
Do you read/write fanfiction? Sporadically. Reading-wise, my attention span is horrid but I’m getting better. As for writing, I keep saying I plan to write fic and then I don’t.
What song have you had on repeat recently? Probably Hollow Tree or Camel Dance, both by Igorrr.
What’s your relationship status? Married :D
What’s the last song you listened to? Cosmos off the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack according to Spotify
Got tagged by @disneyprincessdxminatrix !!
I’ll tag hmmm @artistocrazy @currymuttonpizza @secret-crow-syndicate @snifekinner @cringecontent-funhouse @hws-lceland and @pyrrhocorax :3 it’s optional hehe

ok trying (keyword trying) to write a fanfiction but it's just judy and tyra trying to take care of the silverglade manor horses without Linda Has-the-feeding-schedules-and-training-plans-and-the-event-calendars-but-never-shares-them Chanda after the kidnapping incident
"What do we feed them" "What do you mean what do we feed them?" "Well they need to eat, so what do we give them? Hay?" "No! They're on strict diets!" "Ok. So what are the diets?" "I don't know! Linda never bothered to write it down!" "Well where's Linda?" "I DON'T KNOW"
#it's based on my hc that linda will help literally everyone with everything to the point where she doesnt let people figure things out for#themselves and she ends up doing more bad than good cause once she's gone people can't do anything for themselves#basically linda was MC before MC came to the island#cause if there's one character in sso that doesnt really have a character flaw it's her

do you ever frown with your eyes thinking about how the Tyra Banks show was gone too soon? just imagine if she'd been around to tackle online subcultures in the last ten years, like we'd get an episode about curing homophobic dads with Sherlock fanfiction, and heart-to-heart talks with people who earnestly, unabashedly want to bust it open for Jason Voorhees.
I've honestly never watched Tyra! But I feel like youtube tea and commentary channels have filled the void that she left, for better or worse, emphasis on worse. Like Sarah ~Zed~ does a pretty decent coverage of important events like that time the world heritage post account did a deep dive to discover that some weirdo fabricated a bunch of infamous tumblr posts to make feminists and fat women look stupid, for Reddit clout, and Oppa Homeless Style was one of those.
But then she understandably but incorrectly designated My Republican Dad Ships Johnlock as the work of a naive yet hopeful teenager tentatively flexing their writing muscles; the actual author was at least 32 when she wrote it

Fandom and Fanfiction Galore
Ship It by Britta Lundin
Aaaaaalrighty...so this was written almost 3 years ago hot out of ClexaCon 2018 and it is...an interesting one. I had and still very much have feelings about this book. Would I write my thoughts the exact same way today as I did back then...probably not! So enjoy this bit of a pre-pandemic pre-a-whole-bunch-of-other-personal-stuff-y’all-don’t-need-to-know-about me talking about a book I still don’t really know how I feel about! Enjoy!
This was another book I found because of the Queering YA panel at ClexaCon 2018. Being able to talk to Britta at the booth after the panel was awesome, because you could tell talking with her that she was a true fan. She knew what being surrounded by fandom was like and it made me pretty excited to read the book.
Unicorn Rating:
Blurb: Living in the environment of fandom can be an insane experience in both good and bad ways. This book delivered a unique experience and look into fandom culture that was surreal to read about outside of fanfiction and tumblr.
Disclaimer: I will try my best to not spoil anything from the book, but my book loving rambles may give more away than a traditional review. Here we go! Ramble time!
Review:
I would say overall this book felt a little weird for me. I didn’t absolutely love it but I also didn’t particularly dislike it. It fell in a very ‘meh’ place for me, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have good things to say about it, they are just slightly confusing things.
The plot was actually one of the things I liked the most about it. Even though it was a crazy unrealistic plot, it helped capture the absolute lunacy of being a member of fandom culture perfectly. Sometimes being a fan is a simple life of surfing Tumblr and liking posts but sometimes the craziest things happen and change your life forever. In this case the reader is swept up in this craziness with Claire and the unrealistic aspect of it all made it feel more realistic as counterintuitive as that sounds. That is what the fandom experience can feel like at times, everything makes so little sense it actually circles back around to making sense, but enough about that...time for some character rambles.
Now we have two perspectives explored in this book. That of Claire, the fangirl, and Forest, the actor who has never had to deal with fangirls before. Let’s start with Claire. I am of two minds on her. Part of me really doesn’t like her, mostly because she is a person that in real life I probably wouldn’t spend time around and, as I’ve stated in a previous review, I have a hard time separating myself from characters and remembering that they are only teenagers. Multiple times I actually physically facepalmed, while reading a hardback book! That isn’t easy to do, but I did it, because she was doing things that just seemed so illogical from my perspective. But I am an adult, so of course I have a completely different perspective than a teen who is away from home and feeling a little out of control for a plethora of reasons. Now the other part of me really liked her, strangely enough for those exact same reasons, she was so real that I went full ‘Mom’ mode and wanted to sit her down and have a talk about what she was going through before she did something she was going to regret. Even if I found the character to be unlikeable the fact I was still on her side and wanted to help her really shows the depth that was written into her.
Now moving on to Forest. Oh, Forest. He was a character that I was very intrigued by at first because his was a perspective I, as a fangirl myself, had never seen in a book before, but damn if he didn’t make it so hard to like him. Some of the things he said and did made me want to throttle him. I could excuse some of the stuff Clarie did because of her age and the craziness of everything going on around her, but Forest is an adult and should know better. He would improve and his actions would start to win me over, but then he would overreact to something and make me want to put on my throttlin’ gloves again. I felt like that Tyra Banks ‘I was rooting for you!’ reaction gif while I was reading this multiple times. Again, though, there were parts that I was glad Forest called Claire out on her actions when it was called for, but overall they both needed an intervention to have them sit down and just chill for five seconds.
I actually genuinely liked a majority of the side characters in this as well. I actually have less of the weird mental confusion when it comes to the side characters. Rico was cute and great around the fans. Jamie was a total asshat but he was written to be that way to foil Claire in her mission to make ‘Smokeheart’ cannon. One of my favorite scenes in the whole book was actually between Claire and the social media consultant, whose name I totally remember and am just choosing not to put in because I think that’ll be all avant garde...okay fine I forgot her name and I am not digging the book out to find it. Anyway...I can’t really go into detail about the scene because, you know, spoilers but it was so well done in the context of the story.
Now for the last big character I want to speak on, the love interest, Tess. Now I really liked Tess and even understood how she wanted to keep her nerdy hobbies a secret from her small town friends. I was lucky that I grew up in a family and a circle of friends that let me embrace my passions no matter how off-the-wall they may seem to others. Tess obviously didn’t have that kind of support but she was still so passionate just privately. I will say though, ironically given the title of the book, I don’t ship it. Tess and Claire definitely share an instant attraction and the chemistry is there but they have so much growing to do before they are anywhere close to having an actual healthy functional relationship. Maybe if we saw more of them it would feel more compelling but it just wasn’t for me.
So my final thoughts on this book are just...a little discombobulated. Part of me was really happy to read a book that portrayed a part of my life that is so hard to put into words at times. I have never been a rabid fangirl, but after Lexa’s death I had to try and explain my utter devastation to people who just didn’t understand why a fictional character mattered to me so much. This book captures at least a layer of the fandom experience in a way that I’ve never seen before. The problem I have in the end though is how problematic everything that happens was, and then the ending just felt so sudden. We didn’t see any of the characters address their issues on the page. I hope this review made some coherent sense, because this book still doesn’t really make sense even in my brain, but I need to wrap this up now.
Queer Wrap-up: Okay, so, for our rep we have a questioning main character who definitely has some queer tendencies, but overall her realizing her feelings took such a back seat to her mission to make a fictional ship cannon on a show that was already filmed it took away from the rep as a whole. It just felt like the focus was so split that the actual rep gets lost in the pages. There is no argument by the end of the book that Claire is queer, which earns the three unicorns on that alone, but some of the tropes that played parts in the book were just so cringey that I couldn’t rationalize giving it more than that. Even with a couple side characters who were revealed to also be queer they weren’t enough to cover for the less stellar parts of this book.

Okay, so if you couldn’t tell by that train wreck of a review this book just confused me. It kept me just interested enough to pick it back up after I’d put it down, but also wasn’t that bad. It lives in a weird oxymoronic vortex in my brain that honestly gives me a headache if I focus on it too much. There were aspects of this book that I did genuinely like but it all gets swirled together with the parts that made me put it down and need to take a break. If any of you want to discuss those more spoiler-filled aspects please send an ask and I’ll welcome you into the cyclical nature of whatever this book is doing in my brain. And as always if you want to read this but don’t want to spend the money without knowing for sure you are going to like it, go to your local library. You’d be surprised what they have on their shelves just waiting to be discovered. Trust me, I’m a lesbrarian.

FFT: wedding bell blues; tim riggins
Notes:
this came into my main’s asks from @vonschweetz right in the heat of my millionth rewatch of the Friday Night Lights tv series. And a mighty need to write fanfiction for Tim Riggins. Which admittedly, is something I definitely wanna do in the future on here, so who knows.
Summary:
Amber Collette is back in Dillon and her life’s kind of falling apart. A reconnection with Tim Riggins might just be in the cards? Maybe now the timing is right?
Pairing:
Tim Riggins x Collette!OFC, Amber
Warning:
uhh.. alcohol tw. and fluff. bc it’s fluffy.
“I’m gonna die alone in a house full of cats with no job or no food and bills that I couldn’t pay… First Mindy and Billy got married, then Julie and Matt and now you and Landry are getting married… And I totally bombed that interview earlier. I couldn’t have sounded like a less capable candidate for the job if I tried.. Everything is totally fucking up.” Amber looked up at her sister Tyra and reached for the bottle of red wine in Tyra’s hand. Tyra backed away then seeing Amber’s pout, she poured some into the empty wine glass sitting in front of her sister.
“You’re not gonna die alone in a house full of cats. And you will find a job, okay? This stuff just takes time is all.”
“I am! Hello, I’ve been on four interviews this week alone.. And all the others I’ve been to since I moved back..”
“First of all, Amber, pretty sure you have to actually like cats. Secondly, you’ll find somebody. There’s somebody out there for everybody. Third.. I’m telling you, at least think about coming down to East Dillon High on Monday and filling out to be a substitute teacher or the secretary or something. Everything is gonna be okay, little sister. Just relax.”
“And literally every single time I think I have found somebody or my life is finally gonna settle down and go my way, something winds up going wrong.. Hello, I woke up to a break up text? Came home from work to find out that the locks were changed and all my shit was sitting outside? Then the very next day, I get laid off.” Amber shook her head and took a sip of wine. “I’m just saying.. I wanna be happy. Like you and Mindy. And lately, it feels like every single thing I touch turns to shit. Hence the reason I dragged my ass back to Dillon and am currently riding mom’s sofa.”
“You’ll figure everything out. I’ll help you.”
“You don’t… I need to do this on my own, Tyra.”
Mindy spoke up from the doorway, “Do what on your own?”
“Figure my life out.. It’s like… I look at you and Tyra and I don’t know… I realize just how much is missing, how much I messed up and how many chances I let slip through my fingers.”
“She’s still being a downer, huh?” Mindy glanced at Tyra who nodded. “Job interview didn’t go so well.. Then she got all mopey on me.”
“The club is hiring.. I mean someone’s gotta take my place. And you always loved to dance.”
“Dance. Not be groped by jackasses all night.” Amber corrected gently and Mindy shrugged. “The tips are good, though. And you’d save up to get your own place real quick.”
“ That is a good..” Amber started to say it but before she even got a word out, Tim Riggins spoke up from the door. “It ain’t a good idea. Doesn’t matter how good the tips are.” as he stepped into the room and grabbed a beer for himself from Landry and Tyra’s fridge, uncapping it and taking a sip, never once dropping his gaze from the youngest of the Collette sisters.
Amber bit her lip and took a sip of her wine as she retorted, “Spoken from the man with a job and his own place.”
“That I built with my own bare hands.” Tim added, a smirk tugging at the corners of his mouth. He hadn’t seen Amber in years. The difference in age between them back then may have been what kept him from ever really paying her any attention.
But since she’d shown up at Mindy’s place earlier in the month, he had to at least admit that he found himself just a little curious.
“Right..” Amber finally found the will to tear her eyes away from his and say something. She took another sip and Tim flopped down at the table behind her, taking a long sip from his own can. “Just because shit’s gone to hell.. Don’t mean you have to resort to that.”
Tyra eyed Tim and Mindy caught her sister’s eyes and mouthed “C’mon.” as she nodded to the living room and spoke up, clearing her throat. “Amber? Me and Tyra are gonna go in the livin room and look at some more bridal magazines. Weddings don’t plan themselves.” as Tyra caught on to what Mindy might be up to and smirked at her younger sister. “Right behind you, Mindy.”
As soon as the kitchen door closed behind the other two women, Amber stood. The problem was, so did Tim. And in the small room, it put them chest to chest. Tim chuckled and stared down at her. “What’s your hurry?”
“Nothin, I mean..”
“Sit down.” Tim nodded to the seat across from him and Amber sank down into it, reaching for her wine glass. Tim grabbed it and held it out.
After a few seconds of him staring intently at the Pabst logo on his can, he spoke up.
“I’m gonna feel like a third wheel on Saturday.”
“That makes two of us.” Amber lamented, taking another long sip from her wine glass, trying her best NOT to think about her stupid childish crush on Tim Riggins from back when she was a kid. Or, she thought to herself, trying not to re-imagine accidentally walking in on him when he was getting out of the shower at her sister Mindy’s house earlier in the week when she’d crashed there after a night out. It wasn’t working, she could see it in her mind as clear as she’d seen it with her own eyes.
“You’re blushin.”
“Am not.”
“You are.” Tim was eyeing her, smirking a little. He turned his attention back to his beer can and muttered mostly to himself, “Everybody’s getting married.”
“So I’ve noticed. I mean first it was Mindy and Billy, then it was Matt and Julie and now it’s Tyra and Landry.. But I’m happy for my sisters and Julie.. I mean.. They found great guys. I just seem to have a shit radar.” Amber dragged her finger around the top of the glass and bit her lip as she laughed and shook her head. “Then again, to be fair, Mindy’s always tellin me to stop pushin so hard.. Shit will happen on it’s own time, she says… Tyra, she’s just doin her usual bit, tryin to fix all my messes for me”
“It’s an older sibling thing. Billy did it a lot. Still does it.” Tim remarked, looking up from his bottle to catch her sort of gazing at him. He leaned in a little and tucked a few strands of hair that had fallen into her face back behind her ears as he laughed and shook his head.
“What’s so funny?” Amber pouted.
“Nothin. Just thinkin.”
“About?”
Tim started to stand and make his way out of the kitchen, but he stopped and sat back down. Glancing into the living room, he shrugged. “I always thought I’d wind up workin here.. In a garage.. Married to either Tyra or Lyla.. Look, my point is, life is funny. And it’s not as bad as you think it is right now. I mean.. from what I heard you tellin Tyra and Mindy about the guy in Chicago, you dodged one hell of a bullet.. And it hasn’t been that bad, coming back here, right?”
“Not really.. I mean, I have gotten closer to Mindy and Tyra than we were.. and getting to see my nephew and the twins is great.. And finally making things right with mom… The two of us helping each other through everything..” Amber smiled and then she caught herself doing it again, sort of watching Tim when he wasn’t paying attention.
Before she could stop herself, she’d asked the question.
“Hey.. What if we went to my sister and Landry’s wedding together? I mean.. not like a date or anything, but..”
Tim looked up at her and smiled, finishing his beer and aiming it at the tall trash can designated for beer cans in the corner of the kitchen.
“So you’re askin me on a date, huh?”
“ No.. I mean not unless you wanna take it that way?”
“Maybe I do, Amber.”
“Okay then… it’s a date.”

FanFiction Questions
I’m so bored right now, so I’m just gonna answer these instead of waiting for someone to send me a message. I’ve given my answers to ya whether you wanted them or not.
Fandom Questions
1. What was the first fandom you got involved in? Oh, man. I’d have to say Yu-Gi-Oh! probably, or Yu Yu Hakusho. They were around the same time, so I can’t be 100 percent sure.
2. What is your latest fandom? Friday Night Lights. I came into the show very late but instantly fell in love with Tim Riggins. I already own the entire series, a Dillon Panthers t-shirt, and I’ve written a Tim Riggins fanfiction. I went hard into FNL.
3. What is the best fandom you’ve ever been involved in? Um, they’ve all been pretty great, honestly. When it comes to my writing, my experience in the Harry Potter fandom has been great. People responded to my Bill Weasley story positively and I’m nearing 13K views. It’s crazy.
4. Do you regret getting involved in any fandoms? Not really. I more or less regret things I’ve written. I used to write really bad (like it was horribly written) smut-based things. I got caught by parents in my life and just felt bad it was even an issue. I’ve avoided writing it since. I don’t shy away from writing about sex, just the detailed experience of it.
5. Which fandoms have your written fanfiction for? Beyblade, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Yu Yu Hakusho, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Wolf’s Rain, Inuyasha, Fruits Basket, Marvel, Friday Night Lights, Lord of the Rings, Ouran High School Host Club, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Fantastic Beasts, Big Hero 6, Devil May Cry, The Hobbit, Assassin’s Creed, Star Trek, Kingdom Hearts, Halo, Chuck, Maximum Ride, Katekyo Hitman Reborn, and who knows how many in notebooks scattered around my house.
6. List your OTP from each fandom you’ve been involved in. Usually the character I’m interested and the original female character I create. Every time. I don’t usually ship fandom characters with each other when it comes to the one I really like. It doesn’t mean I don’t, I just don’t read or write for the traditional ships.
7. List your NoTPs from each fandom you’ve been in. I don’t like same-sex pairings (that’s just my preference). Those are usually the only ones I avoid.
8. How did you get involved in your latest fandom? I saw Tim Riggins and thought, “He needs a lady who isn’t going to try to change him and just accept him and love him with everything she’s got.” Then I wrote Catherine Barton.
9. What are the best things about your current fandom? The fact that it’s an older fandom. I feel like writers for older fandoms are more practiced in their writing and make some pretty great fics. That’s not always the case, but I love that FNL is older.
10. Is there a fandom you read fic from but don’t write in? Not usually. I look for fics in a lot of fandoms, but they’re usually obscure and don’t have a lot that I enjoy. I don’t usually write for them though.
Ship Questions for your Current Fandom
11. Who is your current OTP? Tim Riggins with my oc, Catherine Barton. I freaking love their dynamic so much.
12. Who is your current OT3? Should I know what this is? Cuz I don’t. Is it like three characters together? I don’t really ship those.
13. Any NoTPs? Stucky. I know that’s a very unpopular opinion, but I don’t care too much for them in a romantic relationship. Now, both of them with an oc/reader character, that’s fine as long as their focus is only on them, not each other.
14. Go on, who are your BroTPs? I like Steve and Bucky as bros. I’m digging Tim Riggins and Jason Street as bros. I haven’t read much else lately with more obvious BroTPs.
15. Is there an obscure ship which you love? Bill Weasley with an oc/reader. I never really liked him and Fleur.
16. Are there any popular ships in your fandom which you dislike? I prefer Tyra/Landry over Tyra/Tim. Like I said before, I’m not fond of Bill/Fleur. I hate Hiei/Kurama and Steve/Bucky. Those are the ones I can think of right now.
17. Who was your first OTP and are they still your favorite? It was probably me as a character with someone from Yu-Gi-Oh!. It’s not really one of my favorites now, but I like ocs with those characters.
18. What ship have you written the most about? Uh, maybe an oc with Logan? I have more fics with him. Though, Tim/oc is a lot of fics. I think it beat my Bill/oc story.
19. Is there a ship which you wished you could get behind, but you just don’t feel them? Most of the popular ones people go for I guess? I really don’t care enough because I can search with specific keywords and avoid them.
20. Any ships which you surprised yourself by liking? Tim/Lyla. I don’t write or read it, but I can accept it.
Author Questions
21. What was the first fanfic you ever wrote? I think it was a group effort fic with an oc character who was very much like me with like Kurama or Varon (Yu-Gi-Oh!). I wrote a lot of group fics with my friends, so I honestly couldn’t tell you.
22. Is there anything you regret writing? Smutty things back from middle/high school. It was mostly middle school when it happened, but it shouldn’t have happened. I had a lot of friends who looked up to me and me writing smut wasn’t a good thing to do as an example for others.
23. Name a fic you’ve written that you’re especially fond of & explain why you like it. I’m particularly proud of my Spike Spiegel twoshot I wrote recently along with my Tim Riggins story.
24. What fic do you desperately need to rewrite or edit? Like all of my old stuff. I try to edit every time I post it somewhere, but sometimes they need more work.
25. What’s your most popular fanfic? My Bill Weasley Collection. It’s in a high-traffic fandom, so it doesn’t surprise me. I just wish my other stuff got more attention.
26. How do you come up with your fanfic titles? I think for a really long time and then it comes to me. I like things that mean something to the story more so than something random.
27. What do you hate more: Coming up with titles or writing summaries? I have a harder time coming up with titles than summaries. Both suck though.
28. If someone were to draw a piece of fanart for your story, which story would it be and what would the picture be of? Honestly, I’d rather have someone do fanart for my original story (I know this is a fanfiction thing). I wouldn’t mind something for one of my many Marvel fics, or my Spike one.
29. Do you have a beta reader? Why/Why not? I don’t because I really haven’t looked into it. I’ve considered it for original fiction, but none of my fanfictions.
30. What inspires you to write? My interest in certain characters mainly. Or when I can’t find a fic that I really like.
31. What’s the nicest thing someone has ever said about your writing? Someone mentioned my original story not having enough views, which they thought was weird. Also, my creative writing teacher told me my dialogue feels natural.
32. Do you listen to music when you write or does music inspire you? If so, which band or genre of music does it for you? I have YouTube on most of the time. I’ve been listening to an FNL playlist on Spotify while I’ve edited my Tim fic. I don’t have a specific thing I prefer to listen to though.
33. Do you write oneshots, multi-chapter fics or huuuuuge epics? Oneshots and multi-chapter fics usually. I don’t have the patience for huge epics.
34. What’s the word count on your longest fic? Uh, 20-30k words? My longest written piece overall has been my original fic at like 72k. That doesn’t seem like much, but it felt like a lot.
35. Do you write drabbles? If so, what do you normally write them about? I haven’t in a long time, but they’re usually sad.
36. What’s your favourite genre to write? Romance.
37. First person or third person - what do you write in and why? Both. I like to flip flop with different stories.
38. Do you use established canon characters or do you create OCs? As I’ve said several times in this, I prefer OCs over anything else.
39. What is your greatest strength as a writer? My dialogue. I feel that it’s actually natural and not weird.
40. What do you struggle the most within your writing? Descriptions between dialogue. I want it to be simple, but it’s sometimes too simple for what I’d expect for what I already have.
Fanfiction Questions
41. List and link to 5 fanfics you are currently reading: I’m actually not reading any right now. Crazy, I know.
42. List and link to 5 fanfiction authors who are amazing: @bucky-on-a-bike , @zer0pm , @justsomebucky , TykiWife, and blueeyedjade
43. Is there anyone in your fandom who really inspires you? Not really. I just really like reading the works of so many of them.
44. What ship do you feel needs more attention? I don’t know. Maybe more oc ships. :)
45. What is your all-time favorite fanfic? Right now, I’m loving blueeyedjade’s Tim Riggins fic. I read it in two days. I’ve almost gone back to read it again (I’ve been working on other things currently). I probably will soon. I’ve reread almost all of zer0pm’s V fics, too.
46. If someone was to read one of your fanfics, which fic would you recommend to them and why? My Marvel ones, some of my anime/video game ones, and my FNL one.
47. Archive Of Our Own, Fanfiction.net or Tumblr - where do you prefer to post and why? Ao3 right now. I’ll eventually got to FFN. Tumblr is broken for me, so I’ve stopped posting here.
48. Do you leave reviews when you read fanfiction? Why/Why not? I try to when I really like a fic. If I don’t leave a review, I leave a like or vote or something like that.
49. Do you care if people comment/reblog your writing? Why/why not? A little of both is great. I really like getting critical reviews that are there to help me out rather than bring me down.
50. How did you get into reading and/or writing fanfiction? I think I just perused Quizilla (remember that site?) and found it. I was hooked pretty instantly.
51. Rant or Gush about one thing you love or hate in the world of fanfiction! Go! I just love the people in fanfiction. The writers especially for putting in the work they do for their readers. Like, they take up so much of their time to provide for the people who love their writing and it’s amazing. I can’t thank the writers enough (I really need to leave more comments).

The Cult of Celebrity and Fashion Design
(I touched on this on my twitter @ginnyzero.) If there are two things that I’ve noticed writing and fashion design have in common is that everyone thinks they can do them. It can’t be all that hard to write a book or come up with a bunch of clothes in the same design and theme. I mean, anyone can write a fiction book, you don’t need to go to school for that. (It doesn’t mean that everyone has the talent or stamina to do it!) There are famous designers that didn’t go to school, that means it can’t be all that difficult.
And so enter the celebrities who are looking to increase their name awareness and expand their brand into the world of fashion design and fiction book writing. Kanye West, Heidi Klum, Kelly Osbourne, Tyra Banks, Amber Benson, Nicole Ricci, Gwen Stefani, that female country singer I can’t remember the name of. Hell, even companies like Kohl’s get into it having lines in their store designed by celebrities like Avril Lavigne. Now, some designers like Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen seem to have turned their brand into a real business. Nicole Ricci is more serious. Amber Benson has an entire series of books. (I barely got through book one despite the cool premise. Take from that what you will.)
Now, I’m glad of these celebrities success! I wish them all the best in the world. I’m happy they have their fame and their fortune from acting, singing and so on. That’s great.
I find their forays into fashion and make-up and book writing to be suspect. I can’t speak of their motivations. I don’t know if their passion truly lies in fashion versus music. (Though I doubt it in some cases.) I have to question why they decide to enter another creative field when it feels like it is supposed to fuel or be fueled by their other creative field.
Look, I’m a writer and a fashion designer. I’ve been doing both for about the same amount of time. I’m going to tell you right now that my writing and my designing have very little to do with each other. People find descriptions of clothes in books to be boring and they don’t go to clothing stores to buy books! (And I do notice that GRRM and JK Rowling aren’t creating fashion labels. Hmmm.)
The fashion field is similar to the corporate field. You have to work your way up a ladder. Most designers don’t jump out of fashion school straight into the design business of their own label. For one, they don’t have the money. And for two, they tend not to have the business skills. (Design and fashion business are two different majors, go figure. In fact, most schools don’t offer fashion business. They offer fashion merchandising, but not fashion business.)
Fashion designers that are starting out tend to spend at least ten years working for other people. In these ten years a lot of them burn out and decide to leave the field for the next crop of fashion hopefuls to find out how unglamorous working in fashion really is. They pay is low. The cost of living in a city is high. There is very little room for advancement.
And in book publishing, traditional publishers only put out so many books in a year. Hundreds and hundreds of hopefuls query agents putting their hopes and dreams and magnum opus works into a slush pile on the dream that they’re good enough to get a publishing contract. Most of them never get more than a rejection notice that gives no reason other than “I’m not feeling it at this time.” Your book, no matter how good it is, is not what the agent is looking for right that second because it might be the wrong age category or have a spelling mistake or they’ve seen too many vampires today. (The main problem with this being is that you don’t know what is wrong with the book or if it “Just isn’t the right time to try and sell this book” because they don’t tell you.)
Fashion isn’t a zero sum game. Business isn’t a zero sum game. (Book publishing in the traditional manner seems to be closest.) Just because a celebrity like Kanye starts a fashion label and does a show doesn’t mean that an up and coming designer can’t do the same thing. Kanye has two things over a designer that’s not a celebrity, money and a brand name.
Now a celebrity that writes a book and there are so many slots that a publisher is willing to print in a year and they have the choice between the celebrity and another author and they choose the celebrity, then yes, that other author loses their publishing chance because next year may not be a good time for their book. So, it becomes more of a zero sum game. Sure, the author can go indie and publish themselves but take it from an indie author it is a lot of work and it is not the same.
Celebrities, to an extent, skip ahead of the line both in fashion and in publishing. Celebrities have a name. They have a brand. They have power and money to invest. They don’t go to school to learn to design a collection. They pull swipes from magazines and hire others to do it for them most the time. There are exceptions to this rule of course. I’ve mentioned them, like the Olsen twins. They’re exceptions. Just like Tom Ford not going to school for fashion and Vera Wang being unable to drape and draw are also exceptions to most of the fashion industry.
Because celebrities have a name, investors and magazine editors and publishing houses are much more willing to go with someone that the common person is going to recognize and has a huge marketing machine in place than a young and upcoming designer with fresh in the moment ideas or a book writer that no one has heard of. The up and coming designer, the unknown book writer, they are too much of a risk. The publisher, the investor would have to put more money into setting up a marketing machine for them. They’d have to do more advertise. It’s more money out with less guarantee of money coming back in!
The celebrity is just good business.
So, in order to even get a deal, many writers and yes, fashion designers, feel they have to create a social media following and a brand before they finish or query their book to try and prove they have people following them. (And I’m going to tell you right now that follows and likes do not equal sales of original works.) Fashion designers try out for reality shows like Project Runway to get a chance to put their face out there and get some recognition. $125,000 goes really fast in the fashion world and that is the high end of a reality show cash payout.
There aren’t a lot of Christian Siriano’s for a reason. Christian Siriano had savvy and chutzpah after the show and delivered. His success was less on Project Runway and more on using Project Runway as a launching pad to get what he wanted and being able to follow through! (I mean, good on him.)
To me, having 35,000 people follow you on Instagram because they like the pictures of the books you’re reading doesn’t mean to me that those same 35,000 people are going to buy the books you’re writing. And if an agent and publisher falls for that, that’s on them. (To me that says you’ve spent way, way too much time on Instagram and other people’s books rather than writing.)
Fashion designers that go to school and writers no matter what university track they went through, fanfiction or traditional, work really hard because they had passion for what they do, learned the skills and struggled one way or the other in very competitive industries now have to face off against a celebrity that are most likely only trying to increase their brand awareness to have their name on more things and have the money to make it happen.
Then fashion designers also have to face the competition of the big established brand houses that are owned by huge corporations. Most of the large fashion brands are owned by LVMH or by Fendi. The same is in traditional publishing, there are six major publishing houses and all other publishing houses are owned by them. Television is just as bad! These big companies buy their advertising in blocks in the major magazines essentially. Runway shows cost at least 100,000 dollars per season. Fashion weeks tend to have corporate sponsors for very good reasons.
In this world, it’s hard for the small designer, the unknown writer, to get their little voice to be heard against the loud yelling of big corporations, celebrities and social media.
I wish celebrities all the success.
They also frustrate me. These people are also creatives. Some of them were poor and barely making it before being “discovered.” In order to be successful, they had to be creative and good in the fields that first launched them into fame! And instead of using their fame and fortune to help people in other creative fields, they barge into those creative fields and try to use their name to style themselves as experts. Because yes, to design a collection, there is expertise involved. I wrote an entire seven post series on what it takes to simply design a collection and that didn’t cover the sample making and the model fittings and the actual manufacturing process!
Writers also go through long processes to write books with the world building and the character making and creating this thing called plot and having the characters talk to each other and have emotional and personal growth arcs. Then they get nitpicky about sentence structure and repeated phrases and did I use that word too many times?
As a fashion designer and a little known writer, if you’re a celebrity and you want to dabble in fashion design or your agent things you should write a book, turn around and pay it forward by sponsoring someone in that field already instead.
As I said on twitter, celebrities can treat a little known fashion designer as a business investment instead of treating the field of fashion like an extension of their branding and marketing. Sponsorship and investments by celebrities of the day and by nobles and major businessmen were how many of the major older fashion houses started.
The payoff will be different. The byline won’t be as big. Sure, there will be money because of course they’ll want a return on their investment. But there is also the emotional payout. “I helped someone else achieve my dreams the way someone else helped me achieve mine.” “I helped start that brand. I helped build it.” Be the positive change you needed back when you were struggling. Sponsor a designer, any ethnicity, any gender. Invest in their talent.
There’s a reason why I’m more willing to support someone like Vin Diesel, than I’m willing to support someone like Kanye. Vin’s not only using his money to help people, he’s focusing on what he’s good at making movies, so he can make more money to help more people.
I feel like a lot of this can be laid at the feet of the 80s when shoe designers started having sports celebrities “design” and endorse their shoes. By the time I hit college, celebrities had already entered the designing landscape and they haven’t left, picking up and dropping projects and slapping their name on things for a couple seasons before chasing something else. None of the students and indeed very few if any of the teachers talked about this in a positive light. They didn’t see how having celebrities as designers helped the fashion community or helped the rest of the world take fashion more seriously.
(Despite the fact everyone has to wear clothes, most the world finds the world of fashion ridiculous. Things like the Devil wears Prada and actual true stories from the fashion world and people in the fashion world don’t help.)
Celebrities were seen as road blocks and rivals that hadn’t earned their title as rivals. They were taking jobs from us. The students and teachers didn’t see them as job creators, especially since the celebrities were sending their manufacturing overseas like everyone else. If celebrities could step into the fashion world without an education and try to fake it and make it instead of employing actual designers, why were we even at school? What as the point? We felt doomed before we even graduated.
Think of a world where instead of starting his own fashion line (that no one takes seriously other than Kanye) if Kanye had sponsored someone like Edmund or Anthony or any of the male black fashion designers from Project Runway and launched them into success. What happens when a celebrity other than Oprah says “I read this obscure book by little known author and loved it?”
What happens when creatives in different fields get behind each other instead of putting themselves into competition with each other?
If I was a famous fashion designer, I wouldn’t go and lay down a music track and think that means I should be successful in music or that it should enhance my brand to have music as well as clothes. It’s not that I don’t have a decent voice, because I do. It’s because my passion isn’t music. My passion is fashion. My passion is writing. So, I wish that these musicians and actors would have the same respect for my field(s) as I have for theirs.
Right now this feels really important to me as I finish up my branding portfolio and try to think ahead about where I can get a creative job in fashion or branding or any creative consulting/interior design, hell, I'll be a wedding shop consultant at this point. It's an issue that hasn't gone away. I don't foresee it doing so in the near future either.
