*How to Make Turkish Coffee* I've been teaching myself to make Turkish coffee. Some friends gave me a Cezve. I believe it's Greek. The resulting coffee is aromatic, thick and smooth. Immersing yourself in a process hits hard - Blend the angst of living with a very small amount of time Taste the sweetness but don't overcook to bitterness Stay with your Cezve And avoid avoidance It'll be okay The Saints knew that suffering and sorrow increase in proportion to love So surrender to the Ecstasy of the Saints. I am making Turkish coffee, I am riding the wave of experience and it is farewell to my whining ego. And in the midst of all this suffering I know the sweetness of the now, that feeling of joy intermingling with sorrow at my inevitable demise. Get a Cezve. Learn to make Turkish coffee Surrender to the Ecstasy of the Saints and get lost in the process And remember, the Saints love you and so do I. - One Kindred Spirit

Chapter 1: Arrival
September 30, 1998. It was heavy rain and howling winds, but your shop was still open, like a beacon of light in the darkness. A flash of lightning and a high beam panned across the window. The rumbling sound of an engine came to a halt.
Could that be your first customer of the day?
Your question was answered when a young, red-haired woman in a matching leather jacket burst through the front door, triggering the welcome chime that signaled a new arrival. She was drenched like a drowned rat, helmet tucked under her arm as she made her way over to the counter tentatively, her eyes darting back and forth at the empty space before her.
“Hey, uh, you’re open, right?”
“Of course.” Your smile was genial and bright, but not scorching—mellow like the midnight sun in a starless sky. “What would you like, miss?”
She relaxed a little, her shoulders loosening as she placed her helmet on the counter until it appeared as if she remembered something. Looking back, her gaze followed the trail of dirty puddles she had left in her wake. Water pooled from her soaked boots as she gave you a sheepish grin. “Um, sorry.”
You waved it off with a laugh. “Apologize when you can control the weather.” Grabbing a couple of tea towels from the nearby rack, you handed it to her. “Here, why don’t you dry off while I fix you something to warm up with?”
She thanked you profusely as you got to work, concocting up a special blend of frothy hot chocolate with milk, honey, rosewater, and a touch of cinnamon. The pattering of rain from the outside complemented the chill lo-fi soundtrack you had put on in the background.
Sliding the glass over the surface of the table, you placed it in front of her. “Your Turkish Delight, miss.”
“Claire,” she offered. “Just call me Claire.”
As she brought the steamy drink to her lips, her eyes widened, like something had caught her by surprise.
“Mmm, wow,” she sputtered. “This is—”
“Good?”
“Really good!” she corrected, as she gulped the rest down enthusiastically.
At that moment, the door chime tinkled again, and another stranger strolled in, attempting to brush away the droplets from his clothes in vain. Running a hand through his slick blonde bangs, his piercing blue eyes fell upon the two of you like a deer in the headlights.
“Uh, um…” he stammered, only to shake his head in response at his own fumbling as he cleared his throat to try again. “Do you mind if—”
But you were already there, holding out another towel before he could even blink.
“Oh, uh, thanks.” The corners of his mouth curled into a shy smile as he took the towel from your hands gratefully.
“You better leave her a good tip!” Claire hollered from where she sat as he chuckled and raised his hands in mock resignation.
“And what can I get you, mister?”
“Leon.”
“Hmm?”
He stuck out his hand, greeting you with an air of innocence and genuineness. “I’m Leon.”
You shook hands and introduced yourself before he would reveal his order. “Just a coffee, nothing fancy.”
“Coming right up,” you called out over your shoulder, a knowing look cast across your face.
As you prepared a pot of black filter coffee, you overheard your two customers exchanging a few words.
“You from Raccoon City?”
“Nah, I’m just here for a few days to visit my brother. Lemme guess, you’re not from around here either?”
“Not really, well, not yet. I mean, I was supposed to start my first day at the RPD—”
“Wait, today? Have you seen the time?”
“I know, I know… I got delayed. Add the insane weather and I’m still trying to work out the directions on this map.”
“Well, rookie, you’re in luck. My brother’s part of S.T.A.R.S., so I could lead you to the station when the weather clears up a little.”
“Rookie? Really?”
“Do you want my help or not?”
Pouring the freshly brewed coffee into a cup, you served it to Leon, who had just accepted Claire’s offer, despite his slight hesitation. “Your nothing fancy coffee.”
He snickered, locking eyes with you for a split second before taking a sip. Tension eased from his brows as he closed them shut, sighing blissfully into the cup. “It’s—”
“Really good?” Claire suggested, finishing his sentence from him.
He nodded and pursed his lips, finishing the rest of the drink in a couple of mouthfuls. Gesturing towards Claire’s empty glass, he stated, “I’ll get hers too.”
As he fished out a couple of crumpled bills, you stopped him, instinctively placing your hand over his when he tried to slip them over. His eyes flickered at your touch, but he did not pull away, waiting patiently for your response.
“On the house,” you clarified.
“What? No,” Claire protested as she motioned to the empty seats around her. “How’s your shop gonna survive like this?”
“I’ll manage,” you shrugged before peering out through one of the side windows. “Seems like the rain’s lightened up.”
“We’ll be back,” Leon promised, his gaze stoic and sincere, as he dragged the chair out under him, preparing to leave. Claire did the same.
As the door chime tinkled for the final time that evening, he paused abruptly, popping his head back in to ask, “When are you open?”
At this, you let out a smile. “Only at night.”

nancy got a massive star anise in that turkish coffee blend an iraqi man had brought her from a trip abroad — that’s fine, she doesn’t mind strong flavors and she likes the shape. ba’athist baghdad in the ‘70s would still be their meeting spot.
“would you believe christmas is one of my favorite holidays?”
she takes a sip. it tastes sharp ended like stars.
“actually the way i’ve been acting, i wouldn’t believe it either.”
and this is a godless season.
( cw: sad )
tim recompenses by making a gingerbread man walk over her hand. he has dark chocolate buttons and a royal icing smile. he looks a little stupid, but pleased. nancy squishes a cheek in her hand and wonders what the little cookie’s secret is.
“you have the opposite of seasonal affective disorder,” she comments while tim whistles the vince guaraldi trio, “you have seasonal disaffective disorder.”
“‘please eat me, it’s all i live for. it’s all i fucking live for.’” tim moves the cookie around.
she clicks her tongue: “at least he says it out loud.”
“i always actually felt like christmas kinda made up for the bleak 0 for 8 nature of chanukah,” tim answers, “so this part of the season’s like a reward in and of itself.”
nancy thinks and then snaps off the gingerbread man’s stupid head.
“sorry for shitting all over your pageantry then.”
“i’ve seen bigger shits.”
she separates the eyes and the smile between perfected teeth.
“it’s not your fault,” he mumbles, “everyone gets that this is kinda a bullshit time for you.”
“well,” she frowns, “i’m not really so sentimental.”
“annie.”
she swallows and turns her head to watch the plush snow falling outside. the cottony sound of the fat drops hitting the window fills her mouth with cold sponge cake. her brow pulls, as she’s tried to swallow that too.
“okay,” she begrudgingly admits, “so i’m a little sentimental.”
“and you’re taking this feeling out of place thing a little personally.”
“that’s the most personal feeling you could’ve described.”
“trust me,” tim pops both arms in his mouth, “i know.”
the gingerbread man’s down to a torso and legs, his chocolate buttoned suit delineated with icing.
nancy sips her espresso and lays both hands flat on the table, dark button eyes boring into the wood. when the sheer force of her gaze leaves no exit wounds, she softens up and feels embarrasingly weepy in the throat.
“i can’t really blame anyone,” she admits quietly, “it’s totally all my fault. that’s neutral, i think, it is what it is . . . ”
tim hands her the left leg. she thanks him and takes it in her slim hand.
“everything kinda slows down in winter anyway,” tim explains, “it’s just too quiet a season for you.”
“and for you?”
“are you kidding? i get free reign when it’s quiet like this- i go ice skating and everything.”
nancy huffs, humored. then she looks at him, and something in his eyes is sheer crystal truth. she angles her head.
“no way.”
“i actually do.”
“are you good?”
“i’m alright.”
“shut the hell up,” she shakes her head, “i hate when you do that. it means you’re actually dead good.”
“you know everyone was happy that you showed. don’t feel bad about psyching them out a little.”
there’s a star on top of the christmas tree. she thinks about the angel that used to top hers.
“if we had a pool for every time we weren’t sure if someone was showing,” tim leans back, “dick’d make the top spot every year.”
they got a fresh tree every year. and there’s a new family in that house. the angel topper?
“you can take your time. wouldn’t even matter if we split- you’d still get an invite for next year.”
she’s not totally sure where it went off to.
“hey, don’t cry-”
“i’m not,” she blinked, surprised by the accusation, “i’m not.”
then she touched beneath her eyes and realized she was.
she explained briefly that she got her dad a safe, soft balsa wood model plane and the truth was simply that he actually liked it, he was slightly excited, he loves planes. did she ever tell him that? no? oh, well, he loves planes and understands them in a way that feels bigger than what they are.
and the truth was simply that she loved him and understood him in a way that was bigger than his six feet and five inches.
both of them would prefer that the thing they love not hold them to it.
nancy and tim in his old room. she pushes the clutch ( removes her makeup ) and he pulls the choke ( unwinds her scarf from her neck ). she hates being weepy like this. she thinks it’s disgustingly indelicate and slightly rude of her considering the fanfare. she looks around at his walls and feels so much of him in the dark paint and the boyish bedspread. quintessential adolescent. blue and grey checkered and everything. he had a sony stereo right above it with headphones waiting for him to come back.
“what were you last listening to in here?” she asks.
tim presses the disc eject and scrutinizes the cd. “slowdive. souvlaki. banger album.”
“when was that?”
“don’t remember putting a cd in here recently,” he shrugs, “so i guess five years ago or so.”
she sits on the bedspread and the mattress catches her weight. from below, there’s a muffled degree of cheerful noise. his curtains are open, and the white flurries around outside.
“i don’t think i can get you out of here,” he wincingly admits, “storm’s getting too gnarly to drive in.”
“do you know where alfred would’ve taken my bags?”
“probably just by the coats.”
“can you bring them? i just want my sweater.”
he does. he watches her pull her clothes off and finds it slightly even more intimate to watch nancy put a sweater on.
“i turn into this big baby when i’m the littlest bit jetlagged,” she brushes it off, putting lotion on her peachy face after taking out her contacts, “i just get super ridiculous.”
“have you tried puking? i just puke.”
“i like the efficiency in that. get it all out.”
“i move fast.”
“i actually really like your room,” nancy looks up at the ceiling, “it’s cute you put stars up there.”
he lay beside her, squinting: “forgot i did that. anyway you’re wrong and it’s actually metal. these are the constellations you see from apokolips — where darkseid lives. it’s in this dimension that you need a boom tube to get to.”
“oh my god,” nancy sighs, shutting her eyes, “you had such a fucked up childhood.”
“my bad.”
she touches his hand and he turns his palm up to make it easier. she was just curious, just wondering, but did he ever hold hands in this room like this? no. too many people and too little respect for closed doors and too much urgency. he was making moves without a home field advantage. a panicky adolescent bravery.
“not to mention, my room wasn’t ever really suitable for visitors.”
“it still isn’t back at yours.”
“then i guess there is no stopping sister nancy after all. i’m glad they made that song real.”
she laughs lightly, low and slow and dizzy. then she apologizes quietly for being a pain about everything. then she asks him to tell everyone that she really appreciates the invitation, but she can’t hang. he will.
he says, “hey, before you go to sleep.”
tim has likely been eating his body weight in gingerbread all night, but she likes strong flavors and it feels sharp ended like stars. his hair crushed against her head and this was an unfamiliar, surprising custom that she blinked over. this closeness. this buoy knocking of skulls.
“nobody thinks there’s a way you’re supposed to feel about anything, but i’ll still leave out the part where you started crying.”
kissing would be easier. would at least give her something to do with her hands.
“the patience’s actually kinda annoying,” he admits, “give it a few hours over breakfast and you’ll be begging to get called out.”
yet as is historically true for her, the long way out is objectively the best way.
“you think it’s a little stupid, right?” she asks hesitantly.
tim doesn’t give her what she wants. he keeps his face the same.
“how you feel doesn’t have anything to do with what’s stupid or not.”
“i know better.”
“how you feel doesn’t have anything to do with knowing shit either.”
“tim,” she shuts her bird egg eyes, “do you remember what happened?”
“i remember what i think happened.”
“well, i remember everything. i remember it all super clearly.”
“ . . . i believe you.”
she opens her eyes.

Coffee orders of some OCs:
Alex Wright (ex-agent): Large, black, kinda watery serving with a tonne of sugar for energy boost.
Dr. Vynes (Halfway-reformed supervillain, botanist, genetic engineer, hobbyist medic, Love Interest): More of a tea guy really. Will accept coffee, but only the kind of Turkish brew that's thick and strong enough to get up and walk away on its own.
Sven (Head Henchman, 2m x 2m bald Viking): Only the finest Italian espresso served in a teeny-tiny porcelain cup is Real Coffee. No sugar or syrups other such perversion, though for certain blends he will allow just a spot of milk to bring out the flavours.

Turkish coffee is very finely ground coffee brewed by boiling. Any coffee bean may be used; arabica varieties are considered best, but robusta or a blend is also used. The coffee grounds are left in the coffee when served. The coffee may be ground at home in a manual grinder made for the very fine grind, ground to order by coffee merchants in most parts of the world, or bought ready-ground from many shops. The grounds left after drinking Turkish coffee are sometimes used to tell fortunes, a practice known as tasseography. The cup is turned over into the saucer to cool, and the patterns of the coffee grounds are interpreted. As well as being an everyday beverage, Turkish coffee is also a part of the traditional Turkish wedding custom. As a prologue to marriage, the bridegroom's parents (in the lack of his father, his mother and an elderly member of his family) must visit the young girl's family to ask the hand of the bride-to-be and the blessings of her parents upon the upcoming marriage. During this meeting, the bride-to-be must prepare and serve Turkish coffee to the guests. For the groom's coffee, the bride-to-be sometimes uses salt instead of sugar to gauge his character. If the bridegroom drinks his coffee without any sign of displeasure, the bride-to-be assumes that the groom is good-tempered and patient. As the groom already comes as the demanding party to the girl's house, in fact it is the boy who is passing an exam and etiquette requires him to receive with all smiles this particular present from the girl, although in some parts of the country this may be considered as a lack of desire on the part of the girl for marriage with that candidate.

What Is in Thai Iced Coffee?
Thai iced coffee is a popular and refreshing beverage known for its strong flavor and unique preparation. This article explores the ingredients, preparation methods, variations, and cultural significance of Thai iced coffee. Whether you are a coffee enthusiast or someone curious about international coffee drinks, understanding Thai iced coffee can enhance your appreciation for this delightful drink.
Tumblr media
Ingredients of Thai Iced Coffee
Thai iced coffee, or “Oliang” as it is traditionally known, is made using a few key ingredients. Each component contributes to the rich and distinctive flavor of the beverage.
1. Coffee Beans
The foundation of Thai iced coffee is high-quality coffee beans. Thai iced coffee typically uses a dark roast blend. The beans are often roasted with a mix of corn and soybeans, which adds a unique flavor and smoothness to the coffee. This blend is a distinctive characteristic of Thai coffee.
2. Sweetened Condensed Milk
Sweetened condensed milk is a crucial ingredient in Thai iced coffee. It provides a rich, creamy texture and adds sweetness to the drink. The condensed milk is often mixed directly into the brewed coffee, creating a sweet and creamy base.
3. Palm Sugar
Palm sugar is sometimes used in Thai iced coffee to enhance the sweetness and add a deeper flavor. It is made from the sap of palm trees and has a caramel-like taste. Palm sugar is an optional ingredient, but it is commonly used in traditional recipes.
4. Ice
Ice is essential for Thai iced coffee. The coffee is brewed strong and then chilled with ice. The ice helps to dilute the coffee and bring down the temperature, making it a refreshing beverage for hot weather.
5. Evaporated Milk (Optional)
Some variations of Thai iced coffee include evaporated milk. This milk is less sweet than condensed milk and adds a creamy texture without making the coffee too sweet. It can be used in combination with or as an alternative to sweetened condensed milk.
Preparation of Thai Iced Coffee
The preparation of Thai iced coffee involves several steps to ensure the perfect balance of flavors and textures.
1. Brewing the Coffee
To start, the coffee beans are ground to a medium-coarse consistency. The grounds are then brewed using a traditional Thai coffee filter, which is a metal drip filter with a fabric lining. This method of brewing produces a strong and flavorful coffee.
2. Mixing with Sweetened Condensed Milk
Once brewed, the hot coffee is mixed with sweetened condensed milk. The amount of condensed milk can be adjusted based on personal preference for sweetness. Some recipes also include palm sugar at this stage, adding extra layers of flavor.
3. Adding Ice
After mixing the coffee and condensed milk, the coffee is poured over a glass filled with ice. The ice helps to cool the coffee quickly and dilute it slightly, balancing the strength of the brew.
4. Adding Evaporated Milk (Optional)
For a creamier texture, evaporated milk can be added. It is poured on top of the iced coffee, creating a layered effect. The evaporated milk adds a rich, velvety texture to the drink.
5. Serving
Thai iced coffee is typically served in a tall glass. It can be garnished with a straw or stirred before drinking to mix the layers. The result is a refreshing, sweet, and creamy coffee drink that is perfect for a hot day.

Variations of Thai Iced Coffee
While the classic Thai iced coffee recipe is beloved, there are several variations that add unique twists to the traditional drink.
1. Thai Iced Coffee with Spices
Some variations of Thai iced coffee include spices such as cardamom, cinnamon, or star anise. These spices are added during the brewing process, infusing the coffee with aromatic flavors.
2. Iced Coffee with Coconut Milk
Instead of using evaporated milk or sweetened condensed milk, some recipes use coconut milk. This variation adds a tropical flavor and a slightly different texture to the iced coffee.
3. Thai Iced Coffee with Flavored Syrups
Flavored syrups, such as vanilla or caramel, can be added to Thai iced coffee for an extra layer of sweetness and flavor. These syrups are typically mixed into the coffee before adding ice.
4. Thai Iced Coffee with Alcohol
For an adult twist, some recipes include a splash of alcohol, such as whiskey or rum. This variation is often served as a cocktail and provides a unique spin on the traditional Thai iced coffee.
Cultural Significance of Thai Iced Coffee
Thai iced coffee is more than just a popular drink; it holds cultural significance in Thailand. It is enjoyed throughout the day and is a common choice for breakfast or as a refreshing afternoon pick-me-up.
1. A Symbol of Thai Hospitality
Serving Thai iced coffee is a sign of hospitality in Thailand. It is commonly offered to guests in homes and restaurants. The drink reflects the warm and welcoming nature of Thai culture.
2. Street Food Culture
Thai iced coffee is also a staple of Thailand’s street food scene. It is frequently sold by street vendors and in markets, making it accessible to people from all walks of life. The affordability and refreshing qualities of the drink contribute to its popularity.
3. Adaptation and Popularity Abroad
The popularity of Thai iced coffee has spread beyond Thailand. It is now enjoyed in various countries and has been adapted to suit different tastes and preferences. The drink’s unique blend of flavors and textures continues to attract coffee lovers worldwide.
Tips for Making the Perfect Thai Iced Coffee
To achieve the best results when making Thai iced coffee, consider the following tips:
1. Use Fresh Coffee Beans
For the best flavor, use freshly ground coffee beans. Grinding the beans just before brewing ensures that the coffee is aromatic and flavorful.
2. Adjust Sweetness to Taste
The amount of sweetened condensed milk and palm sugar can be adjusted based on personal preference. Start with a small amount and taste the coffee before adding more sweetener.
3. Brew Strong Coffee
Thai iced coffee is known for its strong flavor. Brew the coffee stronger than usual to ensure that it maintains its flavor when mixed with sweetened condensed milk and ice.
4. Experiment with Variations
Don’t be afraid to try different variations of Thai iced coffee. Experiment with spices, flavored syrups, or alternative milks to find a combination that suits your taste.
Conclusion
Thai iced coffee is a delicious and refreshing beverage that combines strong coffee with sweetened condensed milk, ice, and optional evaporated milk. Its unique flavor profile and creamy texture make it a favorite among coffee lovers. Whether enjoyed in Thailand or made at home, Thai iced coffee offers a delightful taste experience that reflects both tradition and innovation.
With its rich history, cultural significance, and versatility, Thai iced coffee continues to be a beloved drink. By understanding its ingredients, preparation methods, and variations, you can appreciate the complexity and charm of this popular beverage.

no added flavouring-
ok for black tea really depends on your strength preference my personal favourite is scottish breakfast (on the website as assam tgfop1 2nd flush ) i love assam its full bodied and malty it’s a single origin and anice alternative to english breakfast blends . darjeeling is a nice delicate black tea if you’re not a fan of super malty teas . indian origin teas are my favourite . margaret’s hope first flush darjeeling should be coming in soon too that’s a very exclusive tea only harvested in one area of the darjeeling province one month if the year so it’s very limited stock and £24 . returns every summer .
there’s japanese green teas we have genmaicha, gyokuro and sencha asigiri, as well as our classic green tea blend . personally i like genmaicha .
speciality teas we also have formosa jade oolong and silver needle white tea but the STAR of the show is milk oolong. she’s so phenomenal she’s £19 but she’s a gorgeous high altitude oolong delicate and creamy texture with buttery caramel notes its one of the best taiwanese teas i’ve ever had
fruity
black tea? piccadilly blend - strawberry rose and lotus flower . lovely fruit and floral blend with a delicate black tea base . her sister is covent garden blend which is black tea with peach and apricot with safflower and marigold petals . blood orange crush is also so so so good and has dried blood orange chunks in it it’s fierce

for no caffeine there’s a few herbal mainly on the w wall in the large loose leaf caddies but if you ask for cinnamon vanilla chai or turkish apple or vanilla honeybush and orange they’re some of my favourites . there’s some rooibos if ur into that but i think only rainforest rooibos and blueberry rooibos are available

Köçek (Turkey)
Köçek was a young effeminate, gender non-confirming person who cross-dressed in feminine attire, and was employed as an entertainer.Köçeks were recruited of several background and ways, such as by captives, slaves or devşirme (recruiting of boys from the Janissary corps) from the fourteenth to early eighteenth century. The culture of the köçek, which flourished from the 18th to the 19th century, had its origin in the customs in Ottoman palaces, & in particular in the harems.
A köçek would begin training around the age of seven or eight after he was circumcised and would be considered accomplished after about six years of study and practice. A dancer's career would last as long as he was clean shaven and retained his youthful appearance. The dances, collectively known as köçek oyunu, blended elements from throughout the empire, most importantly Turkish (like Karsilamas & Kaşık Havası) and oriental elements. They performed to a particular genre of music known as köçekçe, which was performed in the form of suites in a given melody. It too was a mix of Sufi, Balkan and Classical Anatolian influences. The accompaniment included various percussion instruments, such as the davul-köçek, the davul being a large drum, one side covered with goat skin and the other in sheep skin, producing different tones. A köçek's skill would be judged not only on his dancing abilities but also on his proficiency with percussion instruments, especially a type of castagnette known as the çarpare. The dancers were accompanied by an orchestra, featuring four to five each kaba kemençe and laouto as principal instruments, used exclusively for köçek suites. There were also two singers. A köçek dance in the Ottoman seraglio (palace harem) involved one or two dozen köçeks and many musicians. The occasions of their performances were wedding or circumcision celebrations, feasts & festivals, as well as the pleasure of the sultans and the aristocracy.

Portrait of an Ottoman Kocek
Koceks, often wearing heavy make-up, would curl their hair and wear it in long tresses under a small black or red velvet hat decorated with coins, jewels and gold. Their usual garb consisted of a tiny red embroidered velvet jacket with a gold-embroidered silk shirt, shalvar (baggy trousers), a long skirt and a gilt belt, knotted at the back. They were said to be "sensuous, attractive, effeminate", and their dancing "sexually provocative". Dancers minced and gyrated their hips in slow vertical and horizontal figure eights, rhythmically snapping their fingers and making suggestive gestures. Often acrobatics, tumbling and mock wrestling were part of the act.Köçek dance was performed in public spaces such as marketplaces, coffee houses, taverns & wine cellars.
Education was also provided to the köçek at enderȗn mektebi (the school of the palace) and only some were chosen to live in the inner part of the sultan’s palace. Others resided elsewhere and worked in the kol (in the guilds of craftsmen).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Decline
Despite its popularity, the kocek dance was controversial within Ottoman conservative religious and political leaders viewing it as immoral. As of 1805, there were approximately 600 köçek dancers working in the taverns of the Turkish capital. They were outlawed in 1837 due to fighting among audience members over the dancers. With the suppression of harem culture under Sultan Abdulaziz & Sultan Abdul Hamid II, köçek dance and music lost the support of its imperial patrons and gradually disappeared. Some köçeks dispersed to Anatolia and various Arab countries.
In Popular Culture
Tumblr media
Today, the kocek dance is largely a historical artifact, although there are some efforts to revive the dance as a form of cultural heritage. The köçek dance exists in some parts of Anatolia, especially in the Kastamonu.Köçek boys are also sometimes referenced in popular culture, & has been featured in films, novels and other works of art that explore the history and culture of the Ottoman Empire.
There is a turkish movie Kocek, directed by Nejat Saydam. The movie follows the life of Caniko, a gender non-confirming gypsy, who struggles with his gender identity.

I've decided to take my comment on this prompt and turn it into a separate thing because I got self conscious I'd rather have my headcanons as standalone posts, so I can immediately find them without having to dig in an ocean of reblogs uwu
And with all of this said, here's
My F/Os and how they like their coffee ☕
Macchia: If he’s “chilling” at home, it’s moka time, as per the purest Italian tradition. Dark roast type, specifically 85% Arabica blend and 15% Robusta, but a 100% Arabica will do too. If he’s on the go, then he usually allows himself a macchiato instead (me? basing head-canons on puns?? I don’t know what y'all’re talking about hdjdnk). However, when he seriously needs caffeine, usually when working on some big project, then he goes for a Dead eye (regular coffee with three shots of espresso).
Sturm: Back when he was still alive (and with a functional mouth) he used to be a Ness (instant coffee) kinda guy. It’s cheap, quick and basically always available no matter the circumstances. Heavily laced with sugar ofc. On special occasions however, or when visiting relatives or friends, it was customary to enjoy a Cafea Turceasca (Turkish coffee) together and try to read the future in the particulate bitters on the bottom of the cup for a laugh.
Lord Kardok: Drambuie coffee topped with whipped cream. With lots of Walkers shortbread. In alternative, especially during winter times, an Egg coffee (Robusta coffee, sugar, condensed milk and egg yolk) will do. A centaur warlord needs to meet his calories intake ya know uwu
HoKi: For the meme, I’d say he likes his coffee just how he likes his soul: dark and bitter. In truth, while not much of a habitual coffee drinker, he’s a Cortado (espresso shot served with an equal amount of steamed milk) enthusiast because 1. A lich needs his calcium and 2. The milk to coffee ratio helps keeping his acidic stomach at bay (yes I did diagnose him with GERD, whatcha gonna do about it? >:3c)
Greg: He’s a Starbucks enjoyer (derogatory), not because the coffee is actually good, but simply because they fill it with all kinds of sweet stuff. He always goes for a Peppermint White Chocolate Mocha. Size Venti. With honey. Yeah… If for whatever reason he has to go to a regular bar, then he’ll go for a Mocaccino or a Café miel (coffee drink consisting of steamed milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla and honey).
Oliver: Another Starbucks enjoyer. Salted Caramel Cream Cold Brew, size Grande, blended, 4 sugar free vanilla syrup pumps and salted brown butter topping. Except in summer, when he switches to the Shakerato (iced coffee drink made with one shot of espresso and ice cubes, shaken together creating a froth).
Attila: Cappuccino and Flat latte lover on main! Always accompanied with a home made croissant or muffin. Or two. Non negotiable.
