while rewatching journey beyond sodor, I was wondering..

We're Thomas's driver & fireman also being forced to work at the steelworks against their own will? (Since it's pretty obvious they're with thomas when they traveled to the mainland) Or did both of them figured that there was no point in getting help since I'm pretty sure it'll probably take days for them 2 get to sodor from the mainland on foot?

Or am i just looking too much into this?
