A Very GLORIO 2024: Franchises - The Ever Distant Utopia
Is it year end post time already? In 2022 I wrote on the myriad adaptations I watched that year and in 2023 I reflected on what I even wanted from my anime. Now watch! No tricks, no gimmicks! I’m going to tie these two things together with a third, yes folks, a third post! I ended last year with the following: Stop me if you’ve heard this one before, but I think this might be why franchises are…

Nasu was crazy for Midnight Rainbow. like, imagine looking at one of your old stories with a happy affirming ending about the power of love and embracing your humanity, and going "hmmm, now that I think about it, none of this fixes the self-feeding cycle of guilt and destructive atonement Ciel and Shiki got going on here" and instead of doing the sane thing and tweaking the story so the themes flow a bit better, you throw everything out and start over from scratch with the express purpose of shining a massive spotlight on how utterly doomed those two are. what if the archetypical Nasu romance where the protag brings out the humanity of the heroine... didn't save anyone?

Review: Tsukihime -A piece of blue glass moon-
If you know something is a remake, are you more or less likely to check it out? Is the novelty or convenience of it being a new release the main draw? Are you less interested because you find the concept of remakes distasteful or more interested because clearly enough people liked it enough that it warrants a remake? I assume that there are at least thousands of people who played Final Fantasy…
