The 4B Movement: Why Some U.S. Women Are Boycotting Men After Trump’s Win
The 4B Movement: Why Some U.S. Women Are Boycotting Men After Trump’s Win In the wake of Donald Trump’s re-election, many U.S. women dissatisfied with the outcome are turning to a feminist movement that originated in South Korea, known as the 4B movement. This movement encourages women to reject heterosexual marriage, sex, childbirth, and dating as a form of protest against systemic misogyny. Origins of the 4B Movement The 4B movement began around 2017 in South Korea, gaining momentum in 2018 amid protests against a surge in spy cam incidents and gender-based violence. It has since evolved into a significant feminist phenomenon, paralleling movements like #MeToo. Recently, interest in the 4B movement has surged in the U.S., with Google searches for “4B” spiking by 450% shortly after the election results, particularly in regions such as Washington D.C., Colorado, Vermont, and Minnesota. What Does 4B Stand For? The term "4B" stands for four Korean phrases that begin with “bi,” meaning "no" in English: - Bihon: No heterosexual marriage - Bichulsan: No childbirth - Biyeonae: No dating - Bisekseu: No heterosexual sexual relationships Participants in the 4B movement aim to boycott traditional societal structures that they believe perpetuate gender inequality. While some may still desire marriage and children, they feel that the risks associated with conforming to traditional gender roles outweigh the benefits. Broader Implications Initially, the movement arose in response to issues such as revenge porn and the misuse of spy cameras targeting women. However, it has expanded to encompass broader concerns, including access to abortion, the gender pay gap, and intimate partner violence. Advocates argue that if violence and inequality persist, they will contribute to declining birth rates as a form of protest. Haein Shim, a South Korean activist, stated that the movement promotes a lifestyle focused on building safe communities and fostering independence from societal expectations. However, participants often face backlash, including harassment and threats, highlighting the risks associated with their activism. The Movement’s Growth in the U.S. As interest in the 4B movement grows in North America, its impact is difficult to quantify. In South Korea, the movement has been linked to a significant increase in women pursuing higher education—nearly three-fourths of Korean women now do so, compared to less than two-thirds of men. This shift has allowed women to envision lives independent of male partners. The movement also coincides with South Korea's declining birth rate, which some attribute to the 4B ideology. President Yoon Suk Yeol has criticized feminism for contributing to this decline, insisting that structural gender discrimination does not exist. U.S. Context and Concerns The re-election of Trump has intensified fears regarding women’s rights in the U.S., particularly following the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Many women perceive his administration as a threat to reproductive rights and other gender-related issues. Trump has framed the elimination of Roe v. Wade as a significant achievement, which has contributed to the urgency felt by many women regarding their rights. Experts warn that the rise of the 4B movement in the U.S. could create further division between genders, potentially exacerbating misogynistic attitudes among men who feel threatened by changing gender roles. Sarah Liu, a lecturer in Gender and Politics, cautioned that this divide might reinforce negative stereotypes and provoke backlash from men. Cultural Differences in the Movement Political science professor Katharine Moon noted that while the 4B movement may gain traction in the U.S., it is likely to manifest differently than in South Korea due to cultural differences. In South Korea, marriage is often viewed as essential for adulthood, whereas in the U.S., the movement may serve more as a temporary means to highlight the precarious situation of women in the face of political changes. Conclusion The 4B movement represents a growing response among U.S. women to perceived threats to their rights and autonomy, inspired by a larger global movement. As discussions about gender equality continue to evolve, the implications of such movements will likely influence societal attitudes and policies moving forward. Without PAIN or STRUGGLE, there is NO GROWTH!!! Let that sink in for a minute when you think of this #trumpelection MANS LAW WILL NEVER SUPERCEDE GOD/NATURE'S/UNIVERSAL LAW What if I told you that in order for the balance to be restored to, for and amongst the people; as mother earth(Gaia) resets herself, there is going to be a chain of events taking place over the next 4 years that could #possibly be BLESSINGS IN DISGUISE. Sure, it's hard for you to see it now, but just think about it for a moment (put your personal feelings to the side for just a sec). THE CURRENT SYSTEM THAT WE LIVE IN IS BROKEN!!! What do you normally do when something breaks? You either #throwitaway or you #tearitapart to rebuild it. In order for #AMERICA TO BE GREAT AGAIN", the current infrastructure has to either collapse on itself or get torn down (whether willingly or unwillingly). With all 3 government sectors being controlled by the republican party, you can best believe the change and unfortunately, more destruction is on the horizon indeed. But, its all about perspective.... De-Construct & De-Struction are necessary because from the ashes of chaos and war comes new life. The slate gets wiped clean so that we can build a NEW SYSTEM/A REVOLUTION based on the CHOICES of THE PEOPLE for the sake of MAKING AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. Remember, "so the last shall be first, and the first shall be last, for many are called, but chosen are few.' So let's say for all positive incentive purposes what I'm saying is true.... THIS IS THE BLESSING WE'VE ALL BEEN ASKING FOR. Will it make you uncomfortable? HELL YEA, but if it doesn't, how can you possibly GROW or LEARN THE LESSONS? Do you really expect there to be change WITHOUT SACRIFICE? Or did you think CHANGE WAS GOING TO BE EASY? That's the LOWER SELF still fighting to remain relevant. You want to see the change, but are you willing to DO THE WORK? THERE IS NO GROWTH WITHOUT PAIN AND SACRIFICE! But in the next four years, these upcoming challenges will definitely TEST YOUR WILL to see how #commited you are to making the necessary changes that will carry us into this NEW ERA of EUTOPIA!! ~Ahyoka Speaks©🌺

Bitcoin Jumps to Record High in Crypto Frenzy After Trump Win
Bitcoin Jumps to Record High in Crypto Frenzy After Trump Win Bitcoin surged to a new record high on Wednesday, as investors reacted positively to former President Donald Trump's victory in the U.S. presidential election. The cryptocurrency market experienced a significant uptick, with Bitcoin rising nearly eight percent in early trading, surpassing $75,000 and eclipsing its previous record set in March. Other cryptocurrencies also saw impressive gains, with ether, the second most popular cryptocurrency, rallying by eight percent and dogecoin soaring as much as 18 percent. Market Reaction The excitement in the cryptocurrency market extended beyond digital currencies. Crypto-related stocks outperformed the broader stock market, with Coinbase, one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges, jumping 17 percent. Online brokerage Robinhood Markets, which facilitates crypto trading, saw its shares rise 12 percent, while MicroStrategy, touted as the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, increased by 10 percent. Trump’s previous skepticism towards cryptocurrencies has shifted dramatically as he actively courted the crypto community during his campaign. He has promised to make America "the crypto capital of the planet" and has proposed establishing a "strategic reserve" of Bitcoin. His campaign also accepted donations in cryptocurrency and engaged with crypto enthusiasts at a Bitcoin conference in July. Furthermore, Trump launched World Liberty Financial, a new venture with family members aimed at trading cryptocurrencies. Analysts Weigh In Bitcoin has experienced a remarkable 77 percent increase this year, and analysts are optimistic about its future. "Bitcoin is the one asset that was always going to soar if Trump returned to the White House," stated Russ Mould, investment director at AJ Bell. Following Bitcoin’s new high, market speculation is now focused on "when, not if, it will smash through $100,000." Mould emphasized that Trump’s newfound enthusiasm for digital currencies has given crypto traders a fresh narrative to rally around, further fueling excitement about potential price increases. Caution Amid Excitement Despite the optimistic outlook, experts urge caution in the volatile crypto market. Susannah Streeter, head of money and markets at Hargreaves Lansdown, advised investors to "only dabble in crypto with money that they can be prepared to lose," citing the history of wild price fluctuations in the sector.

Bitcoin jumped when investors became confident that Trump would win Tuesday's U.S. presidential election. (Mark Humphrey/The Associated Press) Industry Support for Trump The cryptocurrency industry has largely welcomed Trump’s victory, hoping he will facilitate legislative and regulatory changes that align with their interests. Trump has previously expressed intentions to remove Gary Gensler, the chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), who has been at the forefront of the U.S. government's crackdown on the crypto industry. "Tonight the crypto voter has spoken decisively — across party lines and in key races across the country," said Brian Armstrong, CEO of Coinbase. He highlighted the need for clear regulations to guide digital assets, indicating a desire for collaboration with the new Congress to achieve this goal. Streeter noted that Trump's administration is likely to pursue a "light touch regulation" approach for the cryptocurrency sector, aligning with the desires of crypto advocates who seek legitimacy without overly burdensome regulations. Conclusion As Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies reach new heights in the wake of Trump’s election victory, the market is buzzing with optimism. However, potential investors should remain aware of the inherent risks involved in cryptocurrency trading. With a pro-crypto administration potentially on the horizon, the future of digital currencies may be shaped significantly by upcoming regulatory changes. A TIME TO HEAL
Have you slept since that catastrophic night? Jane and I haven’t. Not straight through till morning, anyway. Thoughts of our next leader and his heinous band of old white men waken us at all hours in the dark. We drift through the streets in daytime, a little woozy. We used to relish finding the Times on our welcome mat; now we half-dread it. And most every person we regard as a friend looks and feels as forlorn as we do.
Jane needs to be deep into a training session or a site visit at one of her thriving community schools to shake, if only for an hour, the anxiety that haunts her. I need to be singing. Drawing, cooking, even writing won’t do it. They’re all too quiet pursuits. Only when I’m rehearsing or performing with First Prez Choir and Grace Chorale of Brooklyn can I manage to blot out the gloaty leers and self-satisfied braying of the Newts, the Chrises, the Rudys and their like as they jockey for the big guy’s attention.
And how dispiriting it’s been for Jane and me both to hear Barack Obama, a man we so respect, strain to favor our President Elect with the quiet grace that comes so naturally to him.
Jane has started looking for places, times and events where large numbers of fellow grievers plan to gather – not to protest but to heal. She’s found one that’s scheduled for St. Patrick’s Cathedral this weekend. For me, again, it’s music. And so I’m most looking forward to the pre-Christmas concerts I’m inviting you to here – Grace Choral’s December 9th and December 11th presentations called O Magnum Mysterium. Should you join us in the glorious sanctuary of Grace Episcopal Church in Brooklyn Heights, you’ll hear a chorus of 85 voices (I’ll be singing in the tenor section) as well as organ, piano, trumpets, trombones and percussion.
In a stroke of coincidental appropriateness, one of the pieces we’ll be singing is a gorgeous South African anthem, set in Latin, English and Zulu, titled Hope for Resolution. It was composed by Sean Ivory and Paul Caldwell in 1995 to commemorate the joint peacemaking efforts of Nelson Mandela and F. W. de Klerk. May the moral force of its text and music prove a balm in our own season of social upheaval and racial unrest.
