Broken Mirror: Part Two
Pairing: Spencer Reid x Reader
Word Count: ~2.6k
Warnings: canon violence, canon language, canon talk of death, methods of kill, and angst
Author’s Note: I do not own anything from Criminal Minds. All credit goes to their respective owners. If there is any warnings that exceed the normal death/kills from the show, I will list them. If you’ve seen the show, then it’s the same level of angst unless otherwise stated.
Feedback is gold, and it’s the only currency I take
“Please, come in,” Evan Davenport greeted when you finally showed up at his house. You, Gideon, Hotch, and Spencer went to his house while Elle and Derek met Cheryl at the crime scene. “I have six people on my staff. I have three bodyguards. They've all had polygraphs. Everybody's been vetted.”
“Have they all have alibis for the night of the kidnapping?” Hotch asked. Entering the house, you looked around at family pictures and little trinkets they ad at the house. Sometimes, those are the biggest clue about who a person is and what they are capable of. There were a lot of people at the house to make sure it wasn’t bugged so that Evan’s team can come in and set up their equipment.
“All accounted for by the local FBI field office. Cheryl flew in yesterday. I'm just making sure that she's not alone even for--sorry, I just feel like I'm suffocating here. I just want somebody to tell me that she's okay.”
“Dr. Reid,” Gideon called for him, waiting until he was by his side. “What do the statistics tell us?”
“If you follow their instructions and give them the money, your daughter will be returned.”
“Done. This house is bug free,” an FBI agent from the local field office announced. The head bodyguard or whatever he was called in for their equipment. His name is Vincent Shyer, but there was something off about him. You couldn't place exactly what it was, but you were going to make sure he was watched very closely by your eye.
“Alright, bring it in!”
“Gideon,” you whispered, motioning him to come over. “I’m getting a weird vibe from Vincent. Like weirder than normal. Almost as if I can feel Trish’s energy all over him.”
“Keep an eye on him. We can’t rule anyone out.”
“Okay,” you nodded slightly. He left your side to go back to the group to question the father some more, leaving you alone.
“So, what are your theories so far about this kidnapper?”
“That he targeted you for a reason. Every line of the letter starts with the word ‘you’. He's angry at you and probably feels like you owe him. That everything you own, you don't deserve,” Hotch answered.
“From the language in the ransom we most likely believe that he's working alone,” you added from your corner of the room. Looking at the agents, you just gave them a smile before heading over to the group. “So, your daughters are identical twins?”
“They're not entirely identical. They're mirror twins. Some of Trish's organs are on the right side that should be on the left. Doctors assured us that it wasn't life-threatening,” Evan explained, showing your team the book that explained the condition in detail. Spencer took it, opened it, and began reading it. Along with Evan’s team’s equipment, you brought some of your own to monitor the call which Hotch was getting set up right now. He was going to make sure that when this bastard called, he would track him.
“Situs inversus,” Spencer said from his spot, naming the condition that Evan just described. He ran his finger down the length of the page quickly since his mind could process that many words per minute. He was flying through the pages at an incredible speed, and Evan kept watching him out of the corner of his eye.
“They had self-defense training?” Gideon asked.
“Yeah. I insisted on it. The protective detail rankled when they hit puberty, and I was sure that they would refuse their bodyguards when they left for college,” he stuttered at the end, turning to Spencer to address his reading skills. “Excuse me. Can you actually read that fast?”
“Our conscious minds can process sixteen bits of information per second. Our unconscious, however, can process eleven million,” Spencer informed, going back to the book.
“That’s his talk of yes, he can read that fast,” you chuckled.
“If whoever took her wants me to blow cases or suppress evidence or stand down--”
“What makes you think it's someone you prosecuted?” Gideon interrupted him.
“Well, I have money, but I don't have millions. I mean, what else could it be?”
“In our experience, Mr. Davenport, every case is different,” you said.
Once the rest of the team and Cheryl was back safe in the house, it was almost eight. The call monitoring system was all ready to go, and Evan was going to be the one to answer the call. He didn’t know how to use the system, but Spencer was showing him how.
“This button answers the call,” he explained, pointing to the right ones, “this button makes everyone in the room silent. It'll flash red. You'll be able to hear his side of the conversation. He won't be able to hear us.”
“We'll be running the trace through the field office, but you're in good hands with agent Gideon and his team,” Vincent assured. There was something completely off about him, even after he and his team left to go track it through the field office where they work. There was something wrong, and it bugged the shit out of you that you couldn’t place it.
“You think Cheryl's a whack job because she claims she can feel her sister's anxiety?” Elle spoke to Derek in the kitchen which was right next to you. Leaving your post, you approached the duo.
“I never said whack job.”
“Actually there may be a physiological basis for it,” you said. “Reversed asymmetry monozygotic eggs split late between nine to twelve days.”
“Don’t tell me there’s another one of Reid,” Derek groaned.
“How do you think I got two PhDs at my age? I may not be a genius with an IQ of 187, but I do know a lot,” you grinned.
“She’s actually right,” the young genius said as he joined the group. “The DNA matches right down to the very last stranded code, and there's sporadic documentation of shared physiological pain.”
“You believe it?” Derek asked after staring at you for a good minute.
“No, I'm just saying it's possible. I don't know everything. I mean, despite the fact that you think that I do.”
“I never said that. When have I ever said that?”
“Every day since I met you.”
“This morning at breakfast,” you added.
“Yesterday when he beat you at cards,” Hotch interjected with a grin. “Um, we've got one minute.”
“Anybody ever heard of sarcasm?” Derek scoffed, following the group back into the main room where everyone was waiting. Evan was very nervous, almost to the point of sweating, but he was trying to remain calm. Cheryl, on the other hand, wasn’t doing too well visually. The emotional energy in this room was very nerve racking, it was almost getting to you.
“Remember keep your voice even and calm and agree with everything he says,” Gideon instructed.
“He's late,” Evan sighed impatiently when the clock read 8:02 pm.
“He'll call. Just try to relax. This is his strategy. He wants you on edge,” you said.
“Remember to repeat any important information he gives you to make sure you understand. You try to keep him talking to reveal something about Trish or about himself,” Gideon encouraged. The phone began ringing, and just to keep the unsub stewing a bit, Gideon let the phone ring for a few more seconds before pressing the button that answered the call.
“This is Evan Davenport.”
“Hello, Mr. Davenport,” the unsub spoke. For a split second, you got a flash of Vincent’s face. It disappeared as quickly as it came, but it left you confused as to why you got that image.
“Are you the man who has my daughter Patricia?”
“I have your daughter.”
“Can I ask you--”
“You may ask me nothing,” he interrupted. “This is not an interrogatory. You will only listen to my instructions.”
“Okay,” he whispered.
“But I will not give them to you. I do not want to talk to you, Mr. Davenport. I want to talk to her. I want to talk to Cheryl,” he revealed. Gideon pressed the button that muted the call so that the unsub couldn’t hear anything the room was saying.
“What's he doing?” Evan asked.
“What most of the offenders we catch try to do is establish dominance,” Derek explained.
“How long can we keep him on hold?” Elle questioned.
“We can’t put her on,” you stated the obvious.
“Why not? I want to help. I'll talk to him,” Cheryl jumped at the chance to hear her sister’s voice.
“Cheryl doesn't have the authority that Davenport holds. He shouldn't want to talk to her.”
“I think that she should speak to him,” Elle determined.
“Do I need to repeat myself? I want to talk to Cheryl. Put her on the phone. Now,” the unsub grew impatient on the other line.
“No,” Evan shook his head.
“I think she should speak to him. He wants to talk to her. The more he speaks, the more he reveals.”
“She is right, Gideon,” Derek sighed.
“He has my sister!”
“No,” Gideon shook his head. “Y/N, you do it.”
“Okay,” you whispered, switching places with him. It was either you or Elle, and you had the more delicate voice which would best represent Cheryl’s.
“I’m waiting,” the unsub sighed. Once the room got silent, you pressed the button and began speaking.
“Okay, this is Cheryl.” No answer. “This is Cheryl.”
“I have Patricia by my side. I know her voice, so therefore, I know her sister's. Get off the phone. I want Cheryl. I'll give you 60 seconds. If you don't put her on the phone, I will hang up, and you will never hear from me or Patricia again.”
“Prep her,” Gideon said once the call was muted. Taking a seat next to Cheryl who took your spot, you had to make sure she was ready.
“Fifty seconds.”
“This guy's arrogant. Let him know that he's in control. Let him guide the conversation.”
“Forty.”
“Use your sister's name. Say my sister Trish or her name's Patricia. Talk about her.”
“Thirty-five.”
“Let him get to know her through you. Don't veer off topic.”
“Got it,” Cheryl nodded.
“I know you’re scared, okay? But this is really important that you follow what I say. Agree with him.”
“Twenty-five seconds.”
“Tell him that you understand him. I know this is going to be very difficult, but empathize with him. If you do so, he might reveal where he’s holding her.”
“Twenty.”
“Let him know that he didn't mean to hurt Trish or go this far, and that he can fix it. He has a chance to show that he's a kind and forgiving person by letting your sister go.”
“Ten seconds.”
“If you don’t know what to say, I’ll be right here to help you. I know a thing or two about empathizing.”
“Three, two, one.”
“This is Cheryl,” the young woman spoke a second after the countdown ended.
“Hello, Cheryl. How are you?”
“I'd be a lot better if I knew that my sister Patricia is okay.”
“I can tell you have a lot of empathy, Cheryl. You care about others.”
“Yes, I do, and it sounds like you understand,” she sniffled, but tried to keep her sobs silent.
“You mean that I empathize? Yes. I do. Very much. I empathize. I empathize with you, Cheryl. I know you want to be with your sister.”
“Yes, I want Trish back.”
“Good. Tell me what you want, Cheryl. I'm very interested. Tell me all about yourself. What's your favorite color?” he asked, and you were quick to press the mute button.
“Don’t answer that. Stay on the topic of Trish,” you informed, pressing the button once more to unmute it.
“If I tell you, will you let me talk to my sister?”
“Maybe. Maybe not.”
“I like blue,” she said, letting a tear roll down her cheek.
“How ordinary. Do you like chocolate, Cheryl?” he asked, but received no answer. He was growing impatient, so he repeated the question in a much slower done. “Do. You. Like. Chocolate?”
“Yes,” she whispered.
“I do as well,” he laughed.
“Please, let me talk to my sister. All I want to do is hear her voice. Please,” she begged. There was some skuttle on the other end, and you hoped Trish was alive enough to answer the call. “Hello?”
“Cheryl?” Trish’s voice sounded groggy like she didn’t know where she was or if she was hopped up on drugs.
“Trish!”
“Cher, is that you?”
“Trish, it's me. I'm here. Are you okay?” Cheryl asked, a tear rolling down her cheek.
“Cher, I can't,” the other sister whimpered.
“Where are you? What do you see?”
“I-I see the moon,” she groaned. The same skuttle sounded, and the phone was taken from the other sister.
“Trish!”
“Have 500,000 ready,” the unsub spoke.
“Let me talk to her!”
“$500,000 is what I'm owed. The Davenports will wait by the phone. You will receive a call with precise instructions in exactly 15 minutes,” the unsub said right before hanging up. Your eyes went to Spencer since he was the one doing the tracing.
“Were your able to trace it?” Gideon asked.
“No. He's probably using a disposable cell phone. They're impossible to trace.”
“She said she could see the moon.”
“She sounded delirious.”
“She was sedated,” you concluded. “It could have been a light.”
“If he's keeping her drugged, it might mean he's not very strong. He might have to keep her weak just so he can dominate her,” Derek observed.
“Or he's keeping her quiet,” Elle added.
“Has Davenport told us everything about his staff?” Gideon wondered.
“Oh, yeah, we have detailed reports but we should probably revisit background on household staff aides and current docket.”
“Pay close attention to Vincent,” you blurted out softly.
“Why? What is it?” Hotch whispered to you.
“I don’t know. All I know is that when the unsub started talking, I got a flash of Vincent’s face. Isnt it a bit weird that they both sounded the same?”
“Similar, yes. I’ll have Garcia check it out.”
“Thanks,” you nodded.
“He said owed,” Gideon interrupted, thinking out loud.
“$500,000. His demand sounded scripted, like he was reading it to us,” Spencer remarked.
“But the rest of the conversation wasn't. He was his most relaxed just talking to Cheryl,” you conversed.
“What does that mean?” Evan stressed.
“He might know her already.”
“How quickly can you get the money?” Gideon wondered. Deciding to let Gideon handle him, you looked to your left to see Cheryl in the kitchen with a bottle of alcohol in her hand. Sighing, you left their side to join the underaged girl and took both the glass and bottle out of her hand.
“Look, I know I shouldn't drink, but under the circumstances, do you think you could let this one slide?” she sighed.
“I know it’s hard, but we need you at your best.”
“Have you had many cases like this?”
“I’ve seen my share of abductions, yes.”
“I don't know how you do this job. How do you stomach it?”
“Sometimes I don’t. I’m not your normal FBI agent. I see more than most, and I feel it. I’m an empathic psychic. Whether you believe in that sort of thing or not is up to you, but I feel your pain and I feel your sister’s fear as if it were my own. She’s close, but I don’t know where. No matter where I go, all I see are abductions, murders, and everything else you can see. For the most part, all these criminals are just cowards. There's nothing I'd rather do more than put the bastards away.”
“I just wish you could get them before they snatch someone,” Cheryl sighed sadly.
“Trish is alive, I can feel it. I know you can too. You've trusted your feelings this far. Hold onto that.”

Facts:
• Katherine is four years apart from her brother, but she has a close bond with him due to their love for wrestling and from looking out for each other during their rough childhood. She also shares the same zodiac sign with her brother, which is Sagittarius.
• Katherine took gymnastics when she was 4, so it helps her when she wrestles.
• Katherine learns how to cook from her mother.
• Katherine has a pet female Pomapoo dog name Brownie.
• Erica Ambrose is as crazy as Dean Ambrose and AJ Lee, if not crazier than them if she was pushed too far. Because of this, she likes to play mind games on her opponents and rivals to mess with them or, if she wants to, break them.
• Katherine used to compete in other wrestling companies, such as Heartland Wrestling Association (HWA), Westside Xtreme Wrestling (wXw), Full Impact Pro (FIP), Dragon Gate USA (DGUSA) and Women Superstars United (WSU) under the name Kat Moxley, the younger sister of Jon Moxley. She does make a few appearances in Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW) as her brother's tag team partner so anyone who goes up against them knows who dangerous they are when they work together.
• Throughout her wrestling career, Katherine wrestled both men and women, although in WWE she prefers wrestling men as she felt they're more challenging than women are at the time before the Divas Revolution. The only ones she felt were challenging in the Divas Division was Paige, Tamina and Naomi.
• When Katherine wrestles, the ring gear she wears are actually normal clothes, she was inspired by AJ Lee. She finds it more comfortable than the ring gears the other divas wears.
• When Erica waits for her opponent to come to the ring, she sits on the second rope like AJ Lee does in both NXT and WWE.
• When Erica goes out to the ring with her brother to confront those who stands in their way, she always comes out with either a steel chair or a kendo stick.
• Erica's Twitter account is @TheEricaAmbrose. (It's not real, so don't bother trying to find it)

To Be Held Chapter 3 - Shooting at Dorian Grey’s
Here is chapter three. I’m glad that some of you are liking this project so far. Thanks for reading thus far.
Chapter 3 warning: Descriptions of an active shooter and profanity.
“The unsub, or unknown subject, is male. Age 30 to 55. He is an extreme perfectionist. He holds a grudge against many possible groups including, sex workers, homosexuals, progressive groups. This unsub is escalating his time frame. This most likely means that he has a list of people that he’s killing, and he is getting close to the end of that list. We need to mobilize and start looking for possible subjects before this man finishes his list and disappears.” The officers in the room finished writing down what they needed and Chief Best stepped forward saying, “squad one and two I want you looking for offenders of sex crimes in the area, squad three I need you to look for offenders of hate crimes, and squad five I need you to look for domestic terrorists. Look for men who have attacked Planned Parenthood clinics, or progressive student organizations on campus.” All of the officers got up and moved to their respective groups and started grabbing files and clicking away on the police database. While this was happening Chief Best approached the team and said, “I know you may have leads, but there’s a lot of cases based on those descriptions. These squads could use your brains and eyes.” Morgan chuckled and replied, “Reid, that sounds like a task for you.” Before Spencer could jump up and start reading a mile a minute Gideon held up his hand. Jason thought about who needed to do what and then said, “Spencer, before you go to the squad with the most case files, I need you to read over this report on the forensic evidence from the scene. J.J. I need you and Chief Best to hold that press conference. It might keep the unsub from moving forward with their list. Now Morgan, Hotch, let’s get on those case files.
By the time J.J. had finished the press conference with Chief Best, worked through a stack of fifty case files on domestic terrorists in Seattle, and narrowing down those case files the day had slipped away and it had grown dark outside. The police officers had changed shifts and there were less officers who worked the night shift. The team had finally narrowed down fifteen unsubs. Gideon had ordered Chinese food from a local restaurant for the team and while the five agents ate they discussed who was most likely the unsub from their final list. Meanwhile, at a bar twenty miles away Venus Rising was showing up for her first engagement of the night.
The atmosphere in the dressing room was lively that night. Trisha leaned over to Venus and said, “So I heard the feds are on the case. I hope they pin down and strangle whatever freak got Syd.” Levi bit her lip and brushed Dr. Reid’s card, as she was fishing for her lipstick in her crossbody bag. Hill didn’t think it was a good idea to tell Trisha that she had been visited in her office by two of the agents she was talking about. Levi rationalized overthinking such a simple decision by thinking, ‘After all, Trish did almost tell a client my name once. She’s not the greatest confidant.’ Levi sighed and finally found her lipstick and turned to Trisha saying, “I’m sure they’re working really hard on it.” Another woman, who was very tall, and wore the highest of heels wrapped her arm around Levi’s shoulders and said seductively to both Hill and Trisha, “And if the FBI can’t find this freak, we’ll do it ourselves. Afterall we are a couple of bad bitches.” The Amazonian sized women had spoken loud enough that the four other women in the room had heard the statement. There was silence for a moment in the small room, and then everyone burst out laughing. Levi was laughing so hard that she had a hard time breathing, but finally had enough air in her lungs to reply, “Kate, although I love your work voice, it does not have the same impact while making threatening statements.” The other escorts, Evolynn Star, Lor, Vixxen Wiccan, and Starlight laughed at Levi’s retort. Levi had been working with this group of escort for a year and they were all very kind women who were just trying to make ends meet. The friendly atmosphere was necessary for their line of work. Although Kate was trying to lighten the mood before their first jobs of the evening, she could see that after the laughter had ceased the same sad looks came over them all. Grief at the death of the friend. Before Levi could think to much more about Sdyney’s murder Lor said, “It’s time to make some money girls,” Levi took a quick look at her phone and saw the time 9:00 P.M., quickly checked her makeup and wig and got up and walked out of the changing room and into the luxury bar. Her normal client was waiting for her at a table.
After the first clients had left at 11:00 the escorts had a thirty minute break between their next engagements. Vixxen was telling Venus about how her brother was planning his engagement to his girlfriend. Levi had a few questions and asked, “Where is he planning on making the proposal?” Vixxen replied excitedly, “Disneyland. I know it’s cheesy, but that’s where they had their first date. I’m so excited for him.” Levi smiled and said, “I don’t think that’s cheesy at all. It sounds very romantic.” Vixxen was about to tell Levi about all of the minor details but was cut off by Kate who asked Levi, “I’m going out back for a smoke. Do you want one?” The professor responded, “You know I gave up smoking Kate. But I’ll stand outside with you if you like.” Kate nodded. Hill got up and accompanied her to the back alley, right outside of the bar. All the escorts had been more cautious after the murder. No one wanted to go out by themselves and it was understandable why. Kate took a deep drag of the cigarette and blew the noxious smoke into the cool night air. Levi watched as Kate paced up and down the alley, a habit the tall women had when she was stressed. As Kate was walking back in Levi’s direction a screeching sound echoed down the alleyway. Before the two women could react a van came racing down the narrow road. Kate jumped to the side of the alley and made a splash as she fell into a puddle. As the van neared Kate the passenger side door opened and a figure in black reached out and grabbed at the downed woman. The van had slowed and Kate struggled to fend off her assailant, who was attempting to get her in the van. Venus saw all of this and shouted as loudly as she could, “FIRE!” Levi ran toward the masked figures leaning outside of the van door. The professor got nicked on the shin as the open van door passed by her. She grabbed onto Kate and pulled as hard she could. She grunted with the effort she put in. Although it felt like an eternity, it only took ten seconds for the other escorts to come out to the alley. They all started screaming once they saw what was happening. Trisha ran toward the van while Lor ran inside to get help from Kyle the bouncer. Once the figure in the van knew they had been seen the car quickly picked up speed. Kate and Levi got dragged about two feet before they were let go. Before the van sped out onto the main street, which was only three feet away at that point, the figure leaning out the door pulled out a gun and shot in the escorts directions.
Spencer rubbed his eyes. His head was so full of victims and unsubs and floating pieces of information. The doctor startled when his phone rang. He pulled the device and didn’t recognize the number. He clicked the accept button and put it to his ear saying, “Dr. Reid here.” The rest of the team looked at the genius and wondered why he was getting called so late at night. His face paled to a whiter shade and he said, “Stay where you are, are the police on the way?” The rest of the team was on the edge of their seats and Morgan, who had very astute hearing could hear a shaky, “yes,’ on the other end of the line. Reid said, “I’m not my way now.” Before closing his phone and standing, the young man’s joints were angry at the rapid change of position. Spencer looked at the team and said, “Professor Hill and another escort were almost kidnapped during a break between clients. One of the escorts is shot.” The whole team jumped at this and was out the door following Spencer to the cars. Hotchern shouted at Reid, “What club are we going to?” Spencer shouted back, “Dorian Grey’s, on the north side of town.” Three car doors slammed and the team raced toward the scene.
As the team rolled up to the bar, they could see the lights of police cars and an ambulance at the scene. Hotchner took point and as the team unloaded from the cars said, “Elle, J.J. go talk to the EMT’s and the shooting victim if she’s still here. Get her information so we can follow up later tonight. Ried and Gideon go talk to Ms. Hill, and Morgan and I will talk to the witnesses at the bar.” The teams split up and moved in the direction they needed to go to accomplish their task. Spencer and Jason moved into the bar looking for Levi. Spencer noticed a group of officers standing next to an area that was curtained off from the rest of the bar and pointed it out to Gideon. They walked toward the area and approached one of the officers. Gideon asked one of the police force, “Is Ms. Hill in there?” The officer nodded and said, “Yes, we’ve just taken a statement from her.” Jason nodded, and Spencer pulled out his badge to show that they were allowed in to see her. “Please send us a copy of your report,” said Spencer as he and Jason walked through the curtain. Levi was sitting on the ground. She was holding her legs to her chest. Gideon could see she was shaking, probably from shock. However she could just be cold, afterall she wasn’t wearing anything apart from some lingerie and a mesh corset. She was talking to other women who also dressed scantily. The other two women were seated with criss crossed legs speaking encouraging words to the girl in shock. Reid caught one of the statements as, “Levi, you did everything you could. Kate’s probably alive because of you.” Gideon cleared his throat and all of the ladies heads whipped in his and Spencer’s direction. Spencer, who was still holding his badge, presented it two the other two women. Lor and Trisha stood up and Lor said, “We’ll give you a moment alone. We’ll be right outside if you need anything.” Lor looked from Hill to Gideon and both girls brushed past the two men. As they left Trisha pulled the long wig she wore off her head and leaned in saying something unheard to Lor.
Spencer sat down on the ground across from Levi, while Gideon pulled one of the chairs from the wall and sat down with a light huff. Levi looked at Spencer and said, “Hello again Dr. Reid.” She attempted to sound calm, but the strain in her voice was apparent. She looked up to Jason. Spencer saw Levi looking at Gideon and quickly said, “Um, this is agent Gideon. He’s on the team with me.” Hill nodded and said haltingly, “I-it’s nice to meet you agent Gideon.” “It’s nice to meet you too Professor Hill. Are you cold?” Gideon asked. He always tried to make people feel comfortable with him. And with themselves. If he was going to force a person to relive a traumatic event, he at least wanted to make them feel comfortable with him. She replied, “Um. i-i don’t know.” Spencer had already realized she was in shock and was upset that the EMT’s had just let her back into the building without noticing her mental distress. He slipped off the green sweater he was wearing and leaned forward, slipping it over her shoulder. The Dr. said, “Here, take this,” while he did so. Levi puller the sweater tighter over her shoulders and felt the warmth from it sink into her body. She took a breath and relaxed, just a little for the first time that evening. Gideon noticed the relaxation and brought up the main topic that they needed to speak about, saying, “If you’re able, would you come outside to the alley with us and tell us what happened tonight. Just walk us through it.” Levi bit her lip and asked, “Do we have to talk out there?” Spencer spoke up saying, “It’s shown in 73% of studies that witnesses of a crime can remember the details better if they’re in the place that the crime took place.” Levi shifted her legs under her and said, “Alright.” Spencer quickly stood and offered his hand out to her which she took and stood up. Spencer now noticed that she had a tattoo of a sword down the length of her left leg. When he had offered his jacket up to her he had noticed her arms and torsoed were permanently inked, a fact that he had been unaware of during his visit to her office, because at that time she was wearing more consertative clothes. “The door that Kate and I left through was through the dressing room.” Levi said, as she attempted to reach the top of the door frame that was farther back in the room. She was very close to reaching it top of the frame, but even with high heels on she was not able to get her fingers above the jamb. Spencer, however, easily skimmed over the lip of the door and felt the edges of a cold metal key. He grabbed it and handed it to Levi. “Thank you,” she said as she slid the key into the lock of the door and turned the key. Before she opened the door she knocked and asked, “Evolynn, Jane, Star, are you in there, decent?” There was a muffled response through the door, “Yeah, Levi, I’m in here. I’m dressed; you can come in.” Levi turned the knob to the door and entered the room, Spencer and Gideon followed. Star was pulling her purse over her shoulder and smiled at Levi when she came in. Star went up to her and said, “Hey’ I’m headed out for the night. Call me if you need anything. See ya tomorrow.” “Thanks, you’re the best. Would you put the key back?” Levi said, holding out the key to the room. Star smiled and laughed and replied, “Yeah of course shorty.” At this response Levi rolled her eyes and scoffed, while dropping the key into her friends hand. After Star had left the room the trio walked out the door into the alley.
While Spencer and Gideon were checking up on Levi, Elle and J.J. ran toward the ambulance. J.J. began talking to the EMT’s immeantly, while Elle flashed her badge to one of the ambulance drivers and then walked up to the open ambulance doors. Inside sat Kate. A white bandage was wrapped around her upper right arm, and she was wrapped in an orange shock blanket. As Elle approached her she said, “Hello Kate, my name is Elle Greenaway, and I’m an agent with the FBI.” Kate pulled the blanket closer to her body and looked at Elle for a moment and said, “Do you want me to repeat my statement Elle?” The FBI agent was taken aback by Kate’s tone, but before she could say anything Kate continued, “I’m sorry. I’m just so tired. I don’t have money to pay for an operation to take this fucking bullet out of my arm and I hate all my clients. So I don’t mean to take that out on you, I just want a hard drink and a nap.” Elle felt bad for what Kate was going through, but she needed as much of the information while it was still fresh in the escorts mind. Therefore Greenaway replied, “I’ll make this quick as possible. I really need to know what you remember about the person that tried to pull you inside the van. Kate replied dryly, “I can tell you that they weren’t very strong. They were really struggling to pull me into that car. And then Levi, who doesn’t weigh more than a hundred and ten pounds comes in like a badass and with her help they dropped us. They wore a facemask and had really blue eyes. Like piercing blue eyes.” Kate shrugged at the image Then continued, “That’s really all I can think of. Except, there was a weird smell in the van, like iron or something.” “That’s very useful information. Thank you Kate,” Elle said. Just as agent Greenaway had finished getting Kate’s information, J.J. called out to her saying, “Elle, we need to get going. The ambulance needs to get to the hospital.” Elle replied, “Yeah, I’m coming.” The anget jumped out of the ambulance and the EMT’s shut the back doors, jumped into the cab and turned on the lights and sirens. As the vehicle raced away the only thing Elle could think about was how this event was going to hurt Kate in the long run.
Inside the bar Derek and Hotchner were talking to the owner of Dorian Grey’s. He was a middle aged balding man and he was very agreeable. Derek had just asked, “So, Mr. Thomas, have you noticed any strange activity in the area over the past few weeks? For example have you had to throw out clients, specifically those who hire the women who work here?” Mr. Thomas replied, “I haven’t noticed anything out of the usual. At least not in the last three weeks. There are always a few guys who get too drunk, or are assholes and they think they can do whatever they want with the escorts, but often one of the ladies will come up to me and tell me about it, and I kick that customer out.” Hotchner followed up the man’s statement by saying, “Would you be willing to show us the back alley and the security measures you have in place for the women?” Thomas said of course and led the agents out to the alley way. As they stepped into the cool air, the owner stated, “This building was built in the 1920’s. At the time it was a bank and it was on the outskirts of town. The richer members of the town would use this bank because it was less likely to draw attention to them and their wealth. In the 50’s and 60’s business moved to the center of town and this place was left abandoned. A couple of other businesses tried to use this land, the last of which was a restaurant. When I bought the building I tried to bring back some of that former history. I renovated the property and added this alley that connects to the road ten years ago.” After hearing this Derek understood a bit more about the history of the place. He had thought, ‘This place is so far out of town, why would it be a destination?’ The owner continued, “When we hired more staff we needed to add a place for them to enter through the back, thus this alley was paved.” The man showed Morgan and Hotch the back door and the security camera that were installed there. Thomas said, “Only the employees and I have the keys to this back door. I’ve got the footage of this camera and the camera in the bar in my office.” Hotchner replied, “We need to see that footage Mr. Thomas.” Thomas nodded and responded, “Of course follow me.” As they walked back toward the door it swung open and Reid, Gideon and Levi walked out. Derek took a moment to look over the professor that Dr. Reid had talked about and was impressed. He thought she was very pretty, a fact that he would not say out loud; he also noticed that she was wearing Reid’s sweater, a fact he stored away for later use.
Gideon, Spencer and Levi took the place of Mr. Thomas, Aaron, and Morgan. The professor turned to Reid and said, “I got to work at 8: 45 and worked my first job from 9: 00 to 10: 30. At 10: 30 we all get a thirty minute break between clients. Well, Kate wanted to have a smoke so I went out here with her.” Before she continued her story Spencer asked the clarifying question, “Around what time was this?” Levi thought for a moment and replied, “around 10: 40. Kate was walking up and down the road. As she was walking back toward me to go back inside I could hear a car’s tires nearby. And then a black van came rushing down the street. Someone tried to grab Kate out of the road and into the cab. I screamed something and ran toward her to help.” Ms. Hill paused for a moment reliving the scene. She pictured running toward the van. It was speeding forward. The licence plate came into view and she remembered a few sequences on the plate. Gideon spoke up saying calmly, “Ms. Hill, are you alright.” The girl stammered out, “The p-plate, i’ve got some numbers.” Reid quickly pulled out his legal pad and a pen and wrote down the sequence as she said, “It’s, it’s GH73 and there’s a 2 in there somewhere.” “That’s amazing,” Reid said, while lowering the paper. Hill continued, “I grabbed onto Kate and then the van sped up. They dropped us when we were by the garbage bins. She walked toward the containers she was talking about. She leaned down and picked up a red high heel that belonged to Kate. The girl brushed the bandage on her left left, which had been bruised badly while being dragged down the road at 40MPH. She stood up and held the shoe protectively to her chest for a minute. After a few seconds in this position a wave of nausea passed over her and she bent down and vomited on the pavement. She dry heaved for a moment after the contents of her stomach had landed unceremoniously on the asphalt. Reid and Gidoen rushed the four feet of distance to her. Jason leaned down and extended his hand. Levi grabbed it and stood upright feeling dizzy. Spencer reached into his pocket and found a clean tissue and handed it to the professor. She wiped the outside of her mouth and crumpled the tissue in her hand. “I’m sorry,” she said, not wanting to make eye contact with either man. Gideon placed a reassuring hand behind her back and said, “There’s no need to apologize, you’ve been through something very frightening tonight. Let’s go back inside, out of the cold.” The older man guided the girl back to the door. When they got inside Jason helped Venus into a chair by the bar. Spencer went behind the bar and grabbed a glass and filled it from the sink. The genius handed it to Levi saying, “Here you go.” The woman slid her hand through her short hair. As she did this she wondered when she had taken off the shoulder length black wig. She didn’t remember taking it off. She pushed the thought aside and took a drink of the water. Once the acrid taste of bile was gone she said, “Thank you Dr. Reid.” Unknown to either Reid or Hill, Derek was on the other side of the room observing them. Spencer stepped over when Gideon came to be by Levi. Jason crouched down to be at eye level with her. He said, “Ms. Hill, I’ve called in a protective detail for you and Ms, Kingsley. When you’re ready to leave just tell the officer over there that you want to go home. They can keep you safe.” Levi felt relieved that Kate was going to be looked after, she was also grateful that she could at least attempt to sleep tonight. She processed the information. Gideon continued the conversation by saying, “I’m going to ask you to do something that may be difficult Ms. Hill. I need you to continue living like nothing happened tonight, Can you do that for me?” Levi took a deep breath and nodded yes.
The team had bagged all the evidence, interviewed the witnesses, acquired the footage from the security cameras and made sure the police would wrap up everything else that needed to happen at the scene. It was 1:30 A.M. and just now were they headed back to their hotel. Derek, Reid and Elle were in the same car. Derek turned to look at Spencer who was in the back seat and said, “Nice move with the sweater Reid, I see you’re upping your game.” Spencer looked confused until he got the implication and restored, “Uh, she was in shock. And she was probably cold, you saw her.” Reid didn’t comment on Levi’s clothing that night, but Derek did say, “You bet I did.” Reid rolled his eyes and scoffed, waiting for the awkwardness to leave the car. At the hotel each member of the team headed to their rooms. They all had tasks to finish as soon as possible. As the youngest member of the team was unlocking his room Gideon walked up to him and said, “You did good tonight Spencer.” Reid turned, surprised at the compliment. He replied, “Do you think it’s a good idea to just let Hill keep living normally?” Gideon’s face went dark and he replied, “Until Garcia gets us some information on those plates, we don’t have much. It’s likely the Ms. Hill will be targeted next.” The realization hit Spencer suddenly and he said harsher than he ment, “You’re using her as bait!” Gideon could only respond with, “Let’s bag this son of a bitch before he gets a chance.” Spencer folded his arms over his chest and looked at his boss, not knowing how to feel about putting an innocent person’s life on the line for this case. Gideon finalized the conversation by saying, “I want you to stay with the young professor tomorrow. I’m sure you’ll see more than officer Anderson, if there is a threat on her life.” Spencer wanted to say something but stopped himself. Instead he said, “Alright. Goodnight.” The genius turned and opened his door, switched on the light and closed the door. Gideon moved down the hall to his own room. This case was taking a toll on Spencer and he knew it. He just didn’t know why yet.

Criminal Minds - Spencer Reid Part 2
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7
*Two Years Later*
"So Dr Prentiss, if you were the unsub, which of these possible victims would be your next target?" Detective Daniels asked as I shifted through the files.
The profile we gave was to the police about an hour ago and the last body was found half an hour later.
"This is a small town and we had our technical analysis narrow down or possible victims into these 15 girls. Each fits the unsubs preference and each are all in the victims abuse of their family and loved ones. Each are blonde, aged between 16-18 and have most lightly moved here recently as a way of getting away from someone." I flicked through the files until one caught my attention. I grabbed the phone and dialed Garcia number.
"You've reached tech genius Penelope Garcia please speak and I shall do all I can to help you." She spoke into the phone.
"Garcia get me everything you can on Abby Wilson."
"You got it Dorothy."
"Garcia I told you not to call me that anymore." I told her.
"Yeah, I know but I love it...anyway. Abby Wilson, real name Sarah rollings, aged 17, abused by her father until she finally stuck up for her self and fought back. She told the police and her father was give 5 years in prison."
"Oh, she ran away from home after her mother, Trish Rollings, tried to kill her. The Mrs Rollings tried to strangle sarah with a line of fishing wire from abbey's fathers fishing box. Just like the recent victims."
"Garcia, I think we just found our unsubs end game." I sighed.
"I have an address, I sent it your way and I'll contact the others."
"OK thanks" I told her before she hung up and I dialed Em's number.
"Prentiss." She answered.
"EM I have a name and address of our next victim." I told her as I grabbed my gear and walked out of the station, five police men in tow.
"What how did you do that so fast?" I heard Morgan ask.
"I was looking through the files and I noticed Abby Wilson, she left home after her mother tried to kill her. The same way the unsub killed the last three victims."
"Are you sure about this?"
"Yes, today marks the anniversary for the day Abbey's father was convicted."
"OK head over there and wait for us to get there. We'll be there soon." Em instructed.
I hung up and I drove to the address Garcia had given me. When I got there the door was open ajar and I saw a shadow of someone walking past the window.
I grabbed my bullet proof vest and gun and I climbed out of the car.
"Had anybody gone inside?" I asked.
Each of the cops looked at me and shook his head. I was about to speak again but the I heard a scream. I looked at the cops and shook my head.
"No, I'll go in, you could spook the unsub and she could attack quicker." I called as I grabbed my gun and ran towards the house.
Upon entry I saw Abby lying on the floor, a piece of wire wrapped around her throat and her mother holding on to it.
"FBI! Trish Rollings, release Abby and step away." I shouted.
Trish only looked at me, smiling.
"After what she did, she deserves what's coming."
I watched as Abby began struggling for breath. She pulled tighter and used one hand to pull tighter. She reached down and grabbed a gun, holding it out.
"Now, you move again and I'll see you die just as Sarah will." She shouted.
I shook my head and shrugged. "I didn't do anything to you, I only want to make sure you don't do anything you will regret."
"Believe me, I won't regret this. I have been waiting 4 years to kill her and I have searched everyday until I finally found her."
"You kill her and you'll never see your husband again."
"What, what do you mean?" She asked, loosening the wire slightly.
"Well we have information that in a month he is up for a parole meeting, and it's looking good. If you kill Abby you will be sentenced for 25 years or more. Never seeing your husband again."
"Really?" She asked. I nodded and slowly put my gin down.
"Just let Abby go." I reasoned but she shook her head and pulled tighter.
"Stop..stop calling her that. She is called Sarah and she ruined my life. She stole everything from me, my life ended the day she rated her father out and now I'm going to end hers." Then she pulled the gun back and pointed it at Abby's head.
It all happened I slow motion. Trish moved her finger to the trigger and slowly began to pull. I aimed my gun and fired hitting the hand that held the gun, coursing her to drop the gun and cry out in pain. Abby took this opportunity to move away from her mother and to words me.
"OK sweetie, I need to you to go out side and find a medic they will help you." I told her.
She nodded and ran. I turned to Trish only she had the gun in her other hand.
"You took my victory, you bitch." She yelled and pulled the trigger. The bullet hit my arm. And I yelled I pain but I ran quickly towards her and kicked the gun out of her hands.
I pulled her up, ignoring my pain and bleeding arm. And cuffed her.
"Trish Rollings, you are under arrest." I stuttered through gritted teeth.
"You lucky I'm I didn't use my right hand. I have a great shot." She bragged a smirk on her face.
" Yeah well you lucky you took me by surprise. You'd have a gaping whole in your head otherwise." I sassed back as I pushed her forward and out of the house.
A group of cops came running towards me, the took Trish off my hands and took her away.
"Dr Prentiss, are you OK?" Detective Daniels asked pointing at my arm.
"I'm fine, just get her out of here." I said nodding towards Trish sitting in the squad car. Daniels nodded and walked off.
"Wait, before you go..." I yelled after him. He turned and raised and eyebrow. I looked up at him and smirked "Book um Danno" I called making him laugh.
"How long you been waiting to use that one?" I heard a voice ask I turned to see Reid and Hotch standing behind me.
"Oh God since we got here on Monday." I shrugged, wincing at the pain that shot through my arm.
"Y/N are you OK?" Hotch asked I nodded and turned and walked towards the medics.
"Yeah I'm fine I just need to be checked out and wrapped up." I smiled. Spencer followed me, not saying a word until I got the ambulance.
"I was worried you know. We got here and they said you went in alone. Then we heard gun shot and Hotch had to stop me from running in." he smiled as he took my hand.
"Spencer I promise I'm fine. The bullet missed anything major and it only hurts a little." I smiled placing my free hand against his cheek, wincing a little at the movement.
"See," I laughed letting my hand drop to my lap. The medic patched me up and gave me a couple painkillers and that was it, no real damage so no need to go to the hospital.
"All done." I announced as I popped my head from the back of the ambulance. Reid and Em rushed over and smiled.
"That's good.' Em smiled before she hit me on the side of the head. "Now don't be an idiot next time" She yelled. I laughed and apologised. I wobbled a little and my feet and laughed as I fell forward a little.
"Y/N!" Reid yelled as he held his arms out to steady me. "Are you OK?" He asked.
"OH I'm fine Reid, the painkillers were a little stronger than expected." I giggled. Em laughed and shook her head.
Spencer nodded and he grabbed my waist and pulled me down of the back of the van. I smiled and stumbled a little until I felt my feet flat on the floor, once again.
"Thank's Dr Reid." I laughed. I pulled away a little but stumbled again so Reid grabbed me again and this time he didn't let go.
" You're sweet Reid, always looking out for me. I swear you the best boyfriend ever." I giggled resting my head on his chest. I looked up a little and noticed his eyes were wide.
"What, what did I say?" I asked then I remembered Emily was stood next to him. I looked over at her and remembered....she didn't know. Nobody knew about me and Spencer yet except Hotch of course.
"Boyfriend?" She asked looking between me and Reid.
"What know I didn't say that what are you talking about?" I asked playing dumb.
"Y/N, I am not stupid. I heard you tell him he is the best boyfriend ever." She smirked.
"Who's the best boyfriends ever?" I heard Morgan asked as he stood by Em, the rest of the team not long behind him.
"Sorry Reid, it was an accident." I slurred at him giggling him at he end.
"What's with her?" JJ laughed
"Pain killers" Reid laughed "they make her say the most random things." He shrugged.
"Back to my original question, who's the best boyfriend ever?" Morgan asked.
"Well according to my niece, Dr Spencer Reid is." Em informed them.
They all looked at us in shock.
"You two? Really?" JJ asked pointing at us.
"Yeah?" Reid answered.
"How long?" Em asked.
"A year." I spoke up.
"And you didn't tell us until now? I thought we were family." Emily sulked.
"Well we told Hotch?" I mumbled.
"You knew?" Em asked turning to Hotch who just smiled.
"Yeah I mean I have them both watch Jack so often I figured it would happen eventually and then about a year ago they both told me what was going on." He smiled.
"Looks I'm getting tired, go you think we can get back to the jet soon so I can sleep?" I muttered leaning against Reid who laughed.
"Yeah. Let's get packed up." Hotch laughed and we all headed to the car. Daniels took my car back with him because I couldn't drive due to being dosed up on painkillers.
*back in Virginia*
"Daddy" I heard a little voice shout as we entered the bullpen. We all looked to see Jack swinging on the swivel chair at my desk.
"Jack, what are you doing here?" Hotch laughed.
"Penelope is looking after me." He smiled.
"His auntie dropped him off she had to work and had nobody to watch him so I offered?" Penelope interrupted as she walking into the room with a glass of water and handed it to Jack.
"OK but why is he sat at Y/N's desk" Rossi laughed as I walked over and high five Jack.
"Because he shares a desk with me and Reid when ever he's here" I called back.
"Yeah, see Auntie Y/N and Uncle Spence bought me a name plate too." He laughed pulling out a small name plate from my draw and true to his word on the name plate read 'Jack Hotchner, Jr FBI'. He placed it on the desk and sat on my knee while I started some paper work.
"Here Jack why don't you come sit In my office so Y/N can work." Hotch smiled as he walked off. Jack kissed my cheek, high five days Reid and ran of after his dad.
"He's the cutest." I smiled over to Reid who nodded in agreement.
"How can someone so small have such a huge impact on my mood." I asked and earned a laughed from everyone in the office.
"So are you free from the effects of the pain killers now?" Em asked. I nodded and sighed.
"Yeah, how much trouble am I in for not telling you about Reid and I?" I asked turning to the rest of the team.
They each smiled and shook there head.
"Alot. It's one thing to keep your relationship from them but I'm family." Em sulked. I laughed and stood walked over and wrapped my arms around her.
"Auntie Em, have something really important to tell you...Reid and I have been dating for a year now and I really love him, like a lot and I want you to know he treats me right and makes me happy. I hope you will be happy for us." I said, jokingly informing her of mine and Reid's relationship.
"It's a bit late now, wait, did you say you loved him?"
"Yeah, I did and I do." I smiled glancing over to Reid who stood and walked over to us.
"OK fine I happy for you both, I figured it would happen eventually anyway." She laughed She stood up and pointed at Reid. "You look after my Dorothy OK. You hurt her I kill you." She informed him before laughing and pulling us both into a hug.
"Awwwww we are gonna have so much fun annoying them two." Morgan called over to Em who nodded.
"Absolutely." She laughed.
"Annoying who two?" Garcia asked walking back over to us.
"Well it seems pretty boy and young Dorothy have been dating for a year." David Rossi informed Garcia.
"I knew it!!!" She yelled before she ran off.
"OK, so it's time to go home" JJ yelled as she grabbed a bag and coat.
"Yes let's go. Spence you want a ride home?" I asked.
"You know you don't have to pretend were car pooling anymore right?" He laughed as he grabbed his coat and my bag.
"Yeah, you're right." I laughed. "My place are yours?" I asked.
"Yours is closer" he shrugged.
"What we gonna do about dinner?" He asked. I waved to everyone as we left the bullpen and walked towards the elevator. Spencer grabbed my hands and brought it to his lips, placing a gentle kiss on the back on my hand.
"We can call for a takeout when I've showered and changed into something not covered in blood." I laughed as we walked to my car.
"Sounds like a plan." He smiled down at me.
We made our way home, talking and laughing, not really care what about we just liked being happy together, this is what it's always like with Spencer, we didn't care what we were saying or doing as long as we were together we were happy.
"Do you think Em was mad?" I asked Spencer after a moment of silence. I turned onto my street and pulled up outside me house.
"I don't think so. I think she was only joking. She knew it would happen eventually, they all did I guess." He replied as he climbed out of the car. I nodded and shrugged.
"Yeah I guess you're right. But I hate upsetting her. She brought me out here, she made me happy to be who I am and she is the reason I met you. I owe her a lot." I sighed as I pulled out my Keys and unlocked the door.
"OK, you jump in the shower, I'll order some food OK." Reid smiled as he grabbed my arm and pulled me into his chest. He kissed me quickly before I ran to jump in the shower.
While in the shower I heard my phone ring and Spencer answering it. I smiled as I shut the shower off and listened to his soft voice down the phone.
"Yeah, We were just going to order after we showered...no not together...I'm sure she'll be OK with it....OK i'll add it to our order...OK bye." He sad before hanging up.
I had put on my PJ's as he walked into my bedroom and smiled at me.
"Well look at you all clean and comfy." he smiled as he came and kissed my forehead.
"Who was on the phone honey?" I joked.
"Well Dear it was you Aunt Emily. She was wanting to come over so I said she could join us for dinner." Spence replied as he took off his jacket, tie and shirt.
"OK, have you phoned the order in?" I asked as I pulled out on of the FBI sweaters I had stolen from Reid while staying over at his.
"No, I was just gonna leave it until I been in the shower." He smiled before walking of into the bathroom.
"Reid wait, come back." I called after he shut the door. He opened the door and popped his head out
"Whats up?"
"Nothing, just wanted to see you half naked again." I winked. I walked over and kissed him before I left the room and walked out into the kitchen. I grabbed the phone and ordered our usual takeout as well as what Spence had written on a note pad by the phone, which I assumed was Ems order.
I cleaned around a little bit and switched the TV. There was a knock at the door and I opened it to see Em smiling at me.
"Hey, Y/N, Spence said I was OK to drop by," she smiled as I moved to the side to let her in.
"Of course, you know you always welcome. Food should be here soon anyway." I smiled as I lead her in to the living room.
"Wow, I just realized I've never actually been in your living room before." Em laughed. "Wait, is that a photo of the team?" She asked pointing at a picture of us all at the bar, take after my first Case.
"Yeah, It was only two years ago but it seems like it was forever ago." I shrugged.
My bedroom door opened to reveal a shirtless Reid.
"Reid!" Em laughed in surprise her eye locked on Reid's shirtless torso, "You have abs?" She smirked. Reid laughed and shook his head before he grabbed a shirt from the laundry pile and pulled it on.
"Hi Emily." He smiled awkwardly.
There was a loud knock at the door and we all jumped a little.
"That would be the food" I called as I handed Em some money and asked her to grab it. Reid and I went into the kitchen and grabbed everything we needed, plates, Glasses and forks. We moved in sync, maneuvering around each other so not to knock each other and drop stuff.
Once we grabbed everything we turned to see Emily watching us.
"Well, you two have got that down...what ever that was." She laughed as she began setting out or dinner.
Dished out and set everything on the table and sat down.
"Oh balls, I forgot the Soda." I sighed as I moved to stand up but Spencer beat me to it.
"I got it. sit your butt down." He called making me and Em laugh. He waled out and came back in a couple of seconds later with three glasses of Soda. He placed on in front of Em, and them one in front of him and finally he placed one in front of me, kissing my forehead as he did.
"Your guys are cute." My Aunt gushed as she watched us.
"What can I say, we work well together."I grinned.
"So, how did you to become a thing?" Em asked. I looked aver and Spencer, wide eyed.
"You know I don't know. We kind of just had that flirty thing going on for a while and one night while we were watching Jack for Hotch, Jack asked me if I like Spence, I told him I did and the he told Reid. We then made a bet while playing poker after Jack was in bed If I won he couldn't correct anybody for a week at work and if he won I had to go on a date with him.
"Who won?"
"I did, he went a week with no correcting people but I agreed to go on a date with him anyway."
"How Cute" She smiled.
We ate and Spoke for a while and just chilled out for a while. It got to about 10:30 and I rested my head on Spencer's shoulder, feeling a little sleepy due the the pain killers I had taken after dinner.
"I'm gonna get home honey, I can see you're getting tired." Em smiled as she stood up and grabbed her coat.
"OK, sorry I don't want you to feel unwelcome Em." I rushed, feeling a little guilty about falling asleep on Spence.
"No don't be silly, it's been a hell of a day and you got shot, you're tired and we know you don't mean to fall asleep." She laughed as she carefully hugged me. She then Turned to Spence and pulled him into a hug.
"Look after my niece, Spence."
"Always do Emily, Precious cargo my girlfriend." He smiled "Ha, thats the first time I've called her that to somebody else." He laughed.
Em laughed and exited the house.
"I'll see you guys later OK?" She said as she climbed into her car and drove off.
"Right, let's get you to bed little one." Spence ordered as he locked my front door and pulled me into my bedroom.
"Hey, I maybe small but I can still kick your ass." I muttered as we climbed into bed. I cuddled into his chest as he laughed.
"Goodnight Spence, I love you." I mumbled into his chest.
"I love you too little one." He mumbled back kissing the top of my head as I drifted to sleep.

Upcoming Flicks January 2018
Here are the upcoming films being released in Australia in January 2018, accompanied by my personal thoughts of them.
January 1
· Pitch Perfect 3
The girls have reteamed for one last hurrah and are on tour with the USO, singing for the troops overseas, along with some other musical groups. Genre: Musical Comedy Director: Trish Sie Stars: Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, Hailee Steinfeld, Elizabeth Banks, Anna Camp, Alexis Knapp, Ruby Rose Recommendation: I reckon it won’t be worth the price of admission. The first one was a great success. The oddball characters thrown together were comedy gold, but should not have been repeated. The sequel provided nothing new and now I think they are milking a cow that’s giving sour milk. It’ll be aca-crapa.
· Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
After the police fail to solver her daughter’s murder, Mildred Hayes buys advertising space on local billboards slamming the local police. Genre: Comedy/Crime/Drama Director: Martin McDonagh Stars: Frances McDormand, Woody Harrelson, Sam Rockwell, Abbie Cornish, Lucas Hedges, Caleb Landry Jones, John Hawkes, Peter Dinklage Recommendation: Three Billboards won the People’s Choice award at the Toronto Film Festival, is being critically acclaimed. There is a fantastic cast with what looks to be a compelling story and characters. I think this is the perfect movie to start 2018.
January 4
· All the Money in the World
Inspired by true events, All the Money in the World is the story of the kidnapping of John Paul Getty III, whose rich oil giant grandfather doesn’t hand over the $17M the kidnappers are demanding. Genre: Thriller Director: Ridley Scott Stars: Christopher Plummer, Mark Wahlberg, Michelle Williams, Charlie Shotwell, Charlie Plummer Recommendation: You may have heard about this movie after Ridley Scott recast and reshot the film with Christopher Plummer after the controversy around Kevin Spacey. Probably a better choice anyway as Plummer would be closer to the age of the tight-arse grandfather. The trailer looks good. It has an intense spy thriller vibe. See it.
January 11
· Darkest Hour
Darkest Hour is the war biopic of Winston Churchill as he is sworn in as Prime Minister of Great Britain just prior to the first World War. Genre: War/Biopic Director: Joe Wright Stars: Gary Oldman, Lily James, Ben Mendelsohn, John Hurt Recommendation: See it. It’s a great piece of history concerning an integral person who changed the course of the world. Plus, you cannot go wrong with Gary Oldman.
· The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature
Some animals need to stop a greedy mayor from destroying their bit of nature for an amusement park. Genre: Animation Director: Cal Brunker Stars: Will Arnett, Gabriel Iglesias, Jeff Dunham, Katherine Heigl, Jackie Chan, Maya Rudolph, Isabela Moner, Bobby Cannavale, Sebastian Maniscalco Recommendation: To quote my wife “There was a Nut Job 1?” I’m surprised they made the second. Skip it.
· The Post
The U.S.’s first female newspaper publisher uncovers government secrets that have spanned four presidents, and seeks to make them public. Genre: Biographical Drama Director: Steven Spielberg Stars: Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, Sarah Paulson Recommendation: Spielberg, Streep and Hanks. The three biggest names in Hollywood comes together to make a hard hitting bio drama. Count me in. Spielberg is my favourite director and Hanks is, in my opinion, the greatest working actor today. You cannot miss this. Also, everything about it screams Academy Awards.
January 18
· Maze Runner: The Death Cure
Thomas and his mates must break into the Last City, the deadliest maze of all in the third and final instalment of the Maze Runner series. Genre: Sci-Fi/ Adventure Director: Wes Ball Stars: Dylan O'Brien, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Ki Hong Lee, Kaya Scodelario, Katherine McNamara, Giancarlo Esposito, Rosa Salazar, Barry Pepper, Aidan Gillen, Patricia Clarkson Recommendation: At least the Pitch Perfect cow was giving sour milk. This is like milking a dead cow. Critics and audiences agree that the first was average at best, and the second was just plain terrible. May as well complete the trilogy, I suppose. Skip it.
· Swinging Safari
This Australian comedy shows us the sexual swinging 1970s in a small beach-side town. Fearless kids and carefree parenting by day, key party by night. Genre: Comedy Director: Stephan Elliott Stars: Guy Pearce, Kylie Minogue, Radha Mitchell, Julian McMahon, Asher Keddie, Jeremy Sims, Jack Thompson Recommendation: Australian comedies set in the 70s and 80s are hilarious. I loved the trailer for this. Elliott directing Pearce again with Neighbours legend Minogue (I also think she sings) tops it off for me. Julian McMahon… I haven’t seen him since he shimmered out of Charmed. See it.
· The Commuter
Michael, an insurance salesman, is riding the train home when things go amiss. Michael gets caught up in a criminal conspiracy and races the clock to uncover a mystery passenger before it is too late for them all. Genre: Action Director: Jaume Collet-Serra Stars: Liam Neeson, Vera Farmiga, Sam Neill, Patrick Wilson Recommendation: Collet-Serra sure likes to get himself a bit of Neeson. I suppose we are lucky he wasn’t cast in the Shallows or the shark would never have had a chance. It’s weird. The start of the trailer intrigues and surprises me. It mystery aspect has me yearning to see it but then the last half of the trailer makes it seem like a generic Liam Neeson actin flick on a train, which has me yawning, so I’ll give it a 50/50 chance of it being any good.
· The Shape of Water
During the Cold War, a mute cleaner of a top secret government laboratory forms a relationship with their experiment, a creature who looks like should have come from the Black Lagoon. Genre: Fantasy/Romance/Thriller Director: Guillermo del Toro Stars: Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon, Doug Jones, Michael Stuhlbarg, Lauren Lee Smith, Octavia Spencer, Richard Jenkins Recommendation: This really looks fantastic. I have been looking forward to it for a long time. Coming from the mind of del Toro with this cast and Doug Jones (aka Suru from Star Trek Discovery) as the creature I have high hopes that I’ll be talking about this in my ‘Best of 2018’ list.
January 25
· Den of Thieves
Den of Thieves follows a group of bank robbers who have their eyes set on the Federal Bank, while the elite unit of cops with unconventional police morals chase them around every turn. Genre: Action Director: Christian Gudegast Stars: Gerard Butler, 50 Cent, Pablo Schreiber, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Recommendation: Skip it. There is nothing new here.
· I, Tonya
If you were curious about the upbringing and what led to Tonya Hardings ice skating success and her attack of a fellow competitor, this is your chance to find out. Genre: Biographical drama Director: Craig Gillespie Stars: Margot Robbie, Allison Janney, Sebastian Stan Recommendation: Who knew ice skating could hold so much potential for a decent crime drama. Surprisingly, I am keen for it. See it.
· Sweet Country
Based on a true story, Sam, an aboriginal stockman, in the Northern Territory in 1929, kills the white station owner in self defence and goes on the run. Sam and his wife flee into the outback only to give themselves up due to the health of his pregnant wife. Genre: Biographical Crime Drama Director: Warwick Thornton Stars: Bryan Brown, Sam Neill, Hamilton Morris Recommendation: Sweet Country looks to be a great Australian western. There is such a rich story to be told here and the trailer has me wanting to see how it all unfolds. See it.
As usual, January in Australia is mostly biopics and Oscar bait films with a few shit ones thrown in for good measure. My picks for the month are The Post, The Shape of Water and for a good laugh, Swinging Safari. Let us know what you are planning on seeing.

Criminal Minds s05e13 “Risky Business” review - or more aptly named, the episode where Penelope shines and we learn more about JJ and it’s both amazing and heartbreaking
Episode 13 – Risky Business
Hey guys! So last episode was a wower, because it showed us that even the scariest unsubs can be actual victims, and it showed how truly amazing Spencer is and I love him so freaking much.
Okay, let’s see what happens.
Uh-oh. Teenagers. This can’t be good.
Birdie!
What are they doing? Oh god, please no.
Oh dear fuck. Oh my goodness fucking gracious.
FUCK!
WHY?
“But the previous Friday, two more boys a few towns over were found hanging on the backs of their doors.”
Wait. Four suicides in the same rural county in a week? WHAT?
“When someone feels trapped in what feels like a hopeless situation, pulling the trigger or swallowing pills or hanging yourself seems like the only way out.”
“None of that seems to exist here.”
“Something’s really wrong.”
Is this more insight into JJ’s past? YAY!
Oh god, this is another bad one. I don’t like it.
Mother Teresa: “Life is a game. Play it. Life is too precious. Do not destroy it.”
Powerful.
“Sir, it’s not that I’m not glad to be coming with you, because I am. I just don’t understand the why.”
Oh my cutie is coming in on the case XDDDDDDDD
Yay!
Just made my day.
“Our victims are all internet generation kids.”
Yup.
“There should be invaluable personal data on their computers to mine for the evaluation.”
“If they committed suicide, evidence of it will probably be in their cyber world.”
Oh dear.
“So I’m gonna snoop through dead kids’ computers?”
Oh my honey.
“This plane seldom makes pleasure trips.”
Oh my honeys.
“Sometimes a suicidal person, in the days leading up to the act, will just blurt out ‘I love you’ to family, sort of like a goodbye.”
Wait. Someone she knew committed suicide? Oh my baby angel.
“Sensationalizing these deaths may cause a domino effect with other kids.”
Yup.
“Is there a good place for me to set up?”
“Don’t have much of a command center.”
“Oh, fret not. I got my own command center. I just need your juice.”
Yup. My baby is all prepped.
Wait. Did JJ just say ‘If your daughter committed suicide,”? Uh-oh.
“I knew he didn’t kill himself. He wouldn’t do that to us.”
Wait what?
To you? Seriously?
“I’m sorry?” the FBI doesn’t investigate suicides?
“That’s not exactly true. Sometimes we do what’s called an equivocal death investigation to figure out the manner of death.”
Oh dear.
“Our investigation will try and sort it all out for you.”
Oh my goodness, his gravelly voice here is doing things to me.
Damn it. Nothing that would lead to suicide on either kid. Fuck.
Definitely something going on here.
“Where’s Ryan’s computer?”
Wait. Hold up. He didn’t have a laptop? That’s odd.
Smart parents.
“If you just get us the network IP address, I believe our technical analyst can go over it offsite.”
You bet your sweet hiney she can.
“Hey, you ready to delve into Trish Leake’s online world?”
“If by ready you mean extremely capable and even more reluctant.”
Oh honey.
“Well, that’s weird.”
“What?”
Yeah, what?
“There’s nothing here.”
“Nothing useful?”
“Nothing at all.”
What?
“I didn’t say empty, I said appears to be blank.”
“Meaning?”
“I’m gonna need a little while.”
Ruh-roh.
“I got it!”
You know it.
“It was just a basic Trojan horse. It just hid the directories, didn’t erase them.”
Awesome.
“Oh god.”
Oh no.
“She was on a choking game site the night she died.”
A what now???
So I just googled it. And turns out it was a real thing that happened all over … oh my god, thank you guys for addressing the seriousness of stupidity of people. Oh my freaking goodness, who would want to do that to themselves intentionally?
“It’s a game kids play where they choke themselves to get a buzz, to get high.”
“They call it the good kids’ game. You get lightheaded and a sense of euphoria even though no actual drugs are involved.”
“It’s something kids in high school play.”
Oh dear.
“Did Ryan have a computer?”
“Not in his room.”
“What about a gaming system?”
“Yeah, he did.”
Oh boy.
So my lovely can get into the gaming system via the IP address. You lovely brainiac.
“Bingo. Ryan was on the same site on the same night.”
“It wasn’t suicide.”
Fuck.
“Hang on, this is a text to voice icon. Let’s see what happens.”
Oh boy.
Fuck. Someone dared the kids to do this? Oh my goodness.
“There’s a whole subculture around this game. They make up names for it, they do it at parties.”
Oh god, I’m about to be sick.
“But someone is daring these kids in this area to play the game.”
“It’s a contest. And there are rules.”
Oh dear lordy.
“Diss – sounds like kids.”
Yup.
“Doing it alone requires ligatures.”
Fuck.
“Garcia, shut the side down.”
“Sir, I can totally do that, but I don’t think you want me to.”
What?
“Why?”
“Right now this site is our only way to track the unsub, and if I cut into it, he will certainly know we’re watching him, in which case he’ll shut it down, and he’ll write a simple change in code, bring it back up in a more covert fashion.”
Oh boy.
“Plus there’s no telling how many servers it’s replicated on anyway.”
“You’re right.”
Of course she is.
Fuck. This is awful.
“In real life, he considers himself a loser. In cyberspace, he can pull strings. Makes him feel powerful.”
Oh god.
So now they have to warn the kids? Oh dear, this is going to be hard.
Oh honey, you’re trying to explain it scientifically? Oh dear. This is not going togo over well.
Oh my god, supervising Derek in a classroom. I love this!
“Hey, kid. Not a good idea. Let me see it.”
Ha. And he’s FBI, so he has to do as Derek asks. XD
“What planet is this dude from?”
Oh my god, I just died.
So mean.
“He doesn’t want us to win the context.”
“I think the more accurate statement would be, ‘he doesn’t want us to participate in the contest at all.’”
Amen to that.
I love how the minute he personalizes the case, everyone starts listening to my poodle.
Smart.
“All because he wanted to participate in what I consider to be a pretty … pretty lame game.”
Yup.
“Your text is actually completely accurate. I don’t want you to win the contest, because I don’t want you to play the game.”
“You all believe this crap?”
Oh boy.
“You don’t?”
“Why don’t you come up here and tell us what you think.”
Oooh, he just called up to the front of the class by Morgan.
DAMN.
Ha. He just totally ran out of the classroom. GUILTY!
I’m sorry, but watching Derek chasing a kid down a high school is the funniest thing ever. And it shouldn’t be, but it is to me. Sorry.
Wait. Is Shemar straddling a kid? Oh god. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make it sound like that, but that’s essentially what’s going on here, right?
“You okay?”
My poodle is asking Derek if he’s okay? Oh god.
“Morgan, look at his neck.”
Oh dear. What’s that?
“Let me look at your neck.”
“Relax.”
Okay. I like this angle.
Fuck. He’s been strangled for a long time. Fuck.
I want to be that cup.
Wait. The Sheriff knows the dad? Oh dear.
“Actually, I’m not that type of doctor. I’m with the FBI.”
Oops.
“Your son needs to go in for some tests”
Well, that’s never good.
Did he just take a USB drive out of the laptop?
It’s the dad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“When bad things happen to us, we get frustrated, kid.”
Oh my honeys trying to get him to talk.
And it’s not working.
“This Christopher kid is fantastical. He’s got a segmented hard drive, serious firewalls, major league encryption.”
Wow.
“No reason for all that unless he’s hiding something serious.”
Yup.
“This is … growl … unusual.” Wait what?
“Every attack I launch is shot down immediately.”
What?
How come?
“What’s that?”
“Somebody just uploaded a new video to the game site.”
Fuck.
“Guys, I’m gonna keep dead-ending on this until I get a beat on how he set up his security system.”
You work your magic, baby girl.
“Hope you got a plan B.”
Fuck.
“Garcia, I think that this kid will relate to you better than anybody else.”
Wait, what now?
“I want you to talk to him, see if you can get him to open up.”
Oh boy.
“Sir, I have never done that before. What if I mess up?”
Oh my honey.
“You’ll be fine.”
Yes, she will.
“Hi there. I’m Penelope.”
Why you gotta be rude, dick?
“Can I sit down?”
“You’re the cop.”
Ha! She? A cop?
“Um, I look like a cop to you?”
“FBI tech analyst.”
Yup.
“I just have some administrative cyber crud to go over with you.”
Oh, she’s cute.
“Just a geekette.”
Aw, honey.
“You are glum.”
Ain’t that the truth.
“Time is a great healer.”
Is it?
“I lost my mom and my dad when I was about your age, though.”
Oh my baby!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay, see … now they’re talking cyber geek, and I’m not fluent. So apologies.
“BTW, I like your nails.”
Oh god.
“You into goth?” “You know, I don’t think I’m supposed to anymore …”
“But the love is still there.”
I love this lady.
“So you’re FBI?”
“Yeah, I know, it’s crazy, but I love it.”
“I enjoy your earring, too.”
I love this woman.
“She’s good. Established rapport when Morgan and Reid couldn’t.”
Yup. I love her.
“Your whole PGP disc encryption system is like crazy impressive.”
Sure, I guess ... I have no bucking idea what she just said, but okay.
“I am jealous.”
What?
“That is state-of-the-art technology the feeb does not have.”
REALLY?
Wow.
He’s good.
“How did you get your anonymizing service?”
He just downloaded it? Whoa.
I just think it’s uber cool how you set your whole system up.”
“Like how you use an e-shredder to obliterate your net activity and a window wiper as your secondary trash eraser.”
Okay, I’m not a tech geek, but even I can tell that is impressive beyond belief.
“Who does that?”
Everybody. Yeah right, I don’t.
“The interview’s over.”
Frack. They blew her cover.
Oh my honey.
She just totally got busted for using him.
“Syl, miss P.”
Cute.
I got that XD
“Sir, I’m sorry, I tried.”
Are you kidding me? She was amazing!!!!!!!!!!
Did he just give her his earring? Whoa.
Crap. Four videos in half an hour? Oh god, this is sick.
“There was something pathetic about him, not criminal.” Huh?
Boom. Password’s his mom’s name. Got it.
She shut the site down. Awesome.
“Kids are still posting videos through independent servers.”
Shit.
“Pull up the website history. See if you can learn anything from historical posts.”
Awesome.
“Christopher’s ER eval shows his bruises were caused by manual and ligature strangulation over time.”
Wait. What now? Manual? Oh lordy.
Wait. So he changes his wording? That’s odd.
“That’s pretty sophisticated behavior for a kid.”
Damn straight. I was a dumdum when I was that age. Compared to my genius now.
“A writer can disguise his own writing style to make himself appear younger or less educated.”
True.
“Yeah, but it’s virtually impossible to make yourself appear older and more educated than you actually are.”
Yup. Definitely.
“Christopher was being manipulated by an adult.”
DUH.
I knew it was the dad. Fuck.
“He’ll find a place to download the videotapes. They’re his trophies.”
Ew.
“You need to see this.”
Oh dear.
“When his father came in the room, he seemed genuinely relieved.”
“His burden had been lifted.”
Why?
“We need to rethink everything.”
Oh boy.
Crap. The kid’s going to kill himself. Shit.
“The father’s going to want to download those videos somewhere, Garcia, and we got to stop that process.”
“Already on that. I replaced the website with a phishing site.”
Oh she’s good.
“When he logs onto that website, he’s going to be rerouted to our server, and we can capture his information.”
I’m in love with this woman.
“You know, for Christopher, a cemetery would be a place of refuge, but for the father …”
“He’s revisiting a body disposal site.”
Oh my god, that is sick.
She’s got him.
“Is he downloading the videos?”
“He’s trying to, but all he’s going to get is snow.”
I love this lady.
Please tell me they get there in time to save the kid.
Fuck.
Oh thank goodness.
“What is that?”
“It’s called a star puzzle.”
“It’s basically impossible to figure out. You have to put all of the pieces back together to form a perfect star.”
I’m crap at those.
Oh my god, my baby knits! Could she be any more perfect?
“The origin of it is kind of a romantic tale.”
“There was this young prince who wanted to win the heart of the fairest maiden in the land, so he climbed to the top of the tallest tower in the kingdom, and he caught a falling star for her.”
Story time with Emily Prentiss!
“Unfortunately, he was so excited, he dropped it, and it smashed into all of these pieces, so he frantically put it back together again to prove his undying love, and he succeeded, and they lived happily ever after.”
“That doesn’t make sense.”
Oh god, Reid.
“What do you mean?”
“You can’t catch a falling star.”
Oh boy.
“It would burn up in the atmosphere.”
Well, yeah, but …
“Yeah, but it’s not literal, Reid. It’s a fable.”
“But there’s no moral.”
Oh honey.
“Fables have morals.”
“Okay. So it’s just a romantic little story.”
“And the point is, it’s basically impossible to do because you have to take all of these pieces and put them together exactly …”
Reid, you little shit, I love you so much.
“There’s a lot to hate about you, Dr. Reid.”
“Play poker with him sometime.”
“Try playing chess with him.”
“Or Go.”
I LOVE MY SUPERHEROES SO MUCH!
Oh my god, so JJ’s sister killed herself and she was the last person to ever talk to her? Oh my god, my heart is just ripping right now. Why end the episode like this you assholes?
C.S. Lewis: “Experience is a brutal teacher, but you learn. My god, do you learn.”
Okay, so this episode was all over the map for me. First off, I’m so glad they addressed something like The Choking Game, because it is seriously horrendous and I wasn’t aware of this and apparently I’ve been living under a rock. Second, this episode featured Penelope in a very important way, meaning she wasn’t just the little ray of sunshine but an invaluable part of the team, and it was glorious. Also, we learned about JJ’s dark past and I just want to hug her and tell her it’s alright and that she’s my little snow angel.
Overall, this show is just getting better and better and I cannot wait to see what else it has in store.

Your character reacts to a voicemail they recieve from their ex a few days after the break up//Spencer/TK
re: x
The phone buzzed three separate times. Spencer grabbed it the first time, saw the name and photo on the screen, stared for a moment, then declined. She sat her phone back down on the coffee table, set her eyes square on the TV, and ignored the next two calls that came through.
“Honey… is that important?” her mother, who was sat on the couch beside her, asked. There was a look of concern on her face, a look that had been there ever since Spencer showed up at her door the night before.
She hadn’t known where to go after her and TK broke up, but staying in the same place as him and Dalton just didn’t feel like an option. It was their place, but she knew that when it came down to it, TK and Dalton were the duo. She’d never try to make things complicated. So she hopped on the first flight to California and went to the one place she felt the safest - her mom’s house.
She’d shown up without much warning, just a quick text once her plan had landed telling her mother she was coming to see her. Unexpectedly, she was met with open arms. Her mom was excited, at first, since she hadn’t seen her daughter in over a month. But the big smile on her face was quickly replaced with a worried frown as Spencer broke down in tears the second her mom pulled her in for a hug and asked what the reason for her visit was.
That look hadn’t left her face since. She had known how much Spencer loved TK, and how much TK loved her in return. The news that they weren’t together anymore had shocked her, and she’d been trying to push Spencer to talk, but couldn’t pull anything else from her.
“I think it was TK…” her mom spoke up again when Spencer didn’t respond. “I saw his little photo pop up.”
Spencer swallowed hard, then nodded. “Yeah, it was him.”
“You don’t wanna talk to him?” her mother asked, her voice quiet. Sympathetic. Sad for her daughter, only because she didn’t know the full story.
“I don’t know,” Spencer answered honestly.
“He seems to want to talk to you.”
“Probably not important. He probably just… wants to know when I’m moving my stuff out or something.”
That wasn’t the truth, and Spencer knew it. Wounds were too fresh to talk about something like that. At the least, he wouldn’t call three times to try and discuss it.
Her mom just looked at her. “What happened with you two, sweetpea? He’s such a nice boy, and he was so good to you. You used to gush about him to me. And oh, the look on your face when you brought him home for the first time. Like he hung the moon and the stars in the sky!” She put a hand to her chest, laughing. “I thought I was meeting my future son-in-law. Even Steve said he seemed like a keeper.”
Spencer clenched her jaw, willing herself to not cry. She didn’t need to hear about how in love she was with TK. She was fully aware. Nothing had made her stop loving him, it was just… her realism that made them end things. They were mature for their age. They knew this couldn’t be forever. They made the right choice for the both of them, neither of them needed to be tied down so young. She kept telling herself these things, reminding herself she’d had good reasons for what she did.
“Did he hurt you?” her mom asked, her voice lowering.
“No, mom,” she answered. “TK… He’s still perfect, alright?” Her voice cracked and she took a deep breath, forcing the emotion back down. “We just did what was best for us. Can we not talk about it?”
“Spencer, honey-”
Her mom was clearly not going to drop it anytime soon, and Spencer could not stand to hear another comment about TK being her future son-in-law. Those words made her chest ache in a way she never wanted it to. She stood from the couch, stopping her mom mid-sentence. “Are we still going out to eat when Steve gets home from work?” she asked.
“Oh, um, yes, if you feel up to it.”
“Yeah, great. I’m gonna shower and get ready before he gets in then.”
With that, Spencer grabbed her phone, darted from the room, and leapt up the stairs to her room. Her room was still decorated just like when she left it, her mom refusing to touch it. Her old bedding was still intact, old clothes she hadn’t taken with her still in the closet. There were still photos of her from high school up on a bulletin board hanging on her wall. The photos were mostly of wrestlers she admired, there was an autographed 8x10 of Trish Stratus, and a photo of a 15 year old Spencer posing with Christian at a meet and greet, tears of excitement evident on her face - TK had laughed when he first saw it, said he wasn’t as cute back when he met Edge and Christian. Spencer had nudged him with her elbow, then kissed him. She tried not to remember all the kissing they’d done in this room.
She had photos with her friends from school, too… but the two newest additions to the board were from just before she’d left home and moved back to Canada. There was one group photo, where TK was stood between her and Dalton. Spencer didn’t even think they were a couple yet, but judging by their heavy coats and winter gear, it looked to be just a few weeks before their first kiss. Then one of just TK, sitting on the ring apron before a show, cheesing and flashing a peace sign at Spencer. He looked so happy. His knee had a visible bruise, and Spencer hated how she could so clearly remember laughing hysterically when he tried to tell people it was from wrestling, but it had actually happened when he tripped over one of Dalton’s cat’s toys and slammed his knee into the kitchen floor. Sometimes it really did seem like Beans didn’t care about anyone other than Dalton. Even if he did make Spencer sneeze like crazy and claw at her feet when she walked through the kitchen in the morning, she’d kind of miss him. She’d miss everything about that home.
She reached up, pinching the edge of the photo of TK between her thumb and pointer finger, preparing to tug it down. On second thought… She moved her hand, letting the photo stay. For now.
Her phone felt heavy in her other hand as she crossed the room over to her bed. Sitting at the foot of it, and looked at the screen of the phone. Her heart started racing as she saw she had a voicemail. Shit. Had it really been important? Was he hurt or something? Did Dalton get hurt? Did Beans get hurt?
Heart in her throat, she brought the phone to her ear, waiting to hear his voice. There was only silence at first, and she wondered if he had left this by mistake. Then, his voice.
He was crying. It only took two words before she realized that. After over three years of dating, she knew what TK sounded like when he cried. Or, more accurately, what he sounded like when he was trying to hide the fact he’d been crying. There was a sniffle that only confirmed what she knew already. And suddenly she was crying, too, before she even realized it.
As she listened to TK tell her he hoped she got to her mom’s safe, she felt a warm tear roll down her cheek, and she wiped it away, sniffling herself. It was his sign off that did it, causing her to toss her phone aside and bury her face into her pillow, sobs wracking her body. In the whole time she’d known him, had they ever not ended a phone call with ‘I love you’? Spencer had forgotten to say it once and immediately called back just to tell him. Maybe it was cheesy, but it was habit, it was something they always did.
Why had he called? Why did he have to continue to remind her how kind and thoughtful he was? Why did he have to remind her how hurt he was by this? Spencer had thought it was all mutual. Maybe she’d been wrong. Maybe she was just heartless. Maybe she broke his heart.
She didn’t want that. She never wanted to be the reason he cried.
She reached for her phone again, scrolling through. Her thumb hovered over his contact, having a debate with herself. It was a solid minute, maybe two, of her sitting there, just staring at her phone and trying to decide if she should call him back.
Ultimately, she put her phone down. No, she was in no emotional state to call him. She wasn’t even sure how she was feeling. Mad at him for even calling? Guilty for making him cry? Regretful for ending things? Happy that he still cared? It was possible she felt all those things at once. But the point remained, calling him back was a bad idea.
The game of picking her phone up and down and up and down was getting old, but one last time, she grabbed her phone and opened up her texts. She typed a message to TK in response to his voicemail.
‘I’m here safe. Thanks.’
She hit send, then stared at the phone for a moment before deciding to send another.
‘Mom says hi.’
She’d tell her TK said hi later. She already knew she’d send a big hello back. Her mom had always loved TK, probably still did. She wasn’t the only one.
She typed out the words ‘Love you’ and never hit send.

“no, no it isn’t.” trish’s implication leaves a calmly salacious, inappropriate purr to her voice. (salacious is an sat word she learned and mostly knew from watching old films as a kid, but she’s recently learned to apply the definition. and somehow it’s working out really really well for her right now.)
none of you knew one little (major) fact, did you? patsy trish walker is a phenomenal actress. a great one. probably could’ve been an academy award contender by eighteen if max hadn’t destroyed her ability to be on a movie set of any kind. now they make her queasy and television’s a proverbial joke and so is she, so she’s moving right along. but right here? oh boy. does she think spencer’s hot? absolutely. is she gay? absolutely not. (this is a complicated question. return to it later.) but if that goblin christian bale can say the hardest thing in his career was making out with a boy then clearly she’s doing a better job here.
“a lake house? that sounds stupid fucking charming. i’m all about that. it has to have a thousand and one super cozy places. cute,” she’s crafted this image of herself people believe and they really, really buy it. the shallow, bubbly princess, natural blonde, green-eyed, a modeling career as long as her legs even at such a young age. this fake california lilt to her voice and her vapid but bubblegum smile. it’s so easy she can see spencer’s parents eating out of her hands like birds. as in, theyre buying what she’s selling but they totally hate it. and she feels satisfied, taking spencer’s hand so gently it tiptoes along her wrist first and then entwines their fingers.
(this gesture is not contrived. it’s a warning. i’m going to touch you. and then a follow-through once she knows it’s accepted.)
“would you show me around? i want to know all the best spots. and you can tell me everything about your favorite things here. it’s quadruple as big as rehab, so obvs i’d love to see it.”
is she dragging her off unceremoniously, not a word to spencer’s parents? oh you bet. once their backs are turned she can crack the small laugh she’s been holding under her tongue like chewing gum. a tiny noise.
GIRLFRIEND FOR A DAY ;
few good things come out of rehab. that’s a lie. she’s learned everything she knows in an environment that made her feel stabilized— wow!— that made her feel safe around like-minded people who, slowly but surely, learned to listen and respect to the twenty-something child starlet who had everything to say just about all the time. it became clear maybe she wasn’t stupid, after all. and maybe she actually doesn’t think she is to the same extent, anymore. she has a GED, now, and she’s pretty proud of that, even if alternatively she doesn’t know how not to be ashamed with how long it took her to get to a basic teenage thing like. well. a high school degree. and maybe not even that, but. still. and of course, there’s spencer. who she’s totally agreed to enjoy this entire situation with out of pure contempt for her parents.
(she likes to imagine she wishes she could tell dorothy to go fuck herself just this way.)
a charming flutter of a hand wave, all fingertips, follows. contrived and sickeningly sweet, saccharine as it is. she bats pretty green eyes, hair gold and cropped short, now. so short it barely cuts up to her ears. she looks only halfway like patsy walker, who she is not any longer, but they clearly see it. and that’s enough for her. “sweetheart, is my name ‘girlfriend’?” she kisses spencer on the cheek in the most obnoxious fashion she can, all show, what a princess— offers a hand, all fingertips, just like a princess would. “i’m trish walker. it’s so nice to meet you. your home is lovely.”
you know how in some people’s tones you can hear they’re exaggerating? (you can hear it, there, in trish’s fake, fake, fake grandiosity. lovely is synonymous with oh how cute.)
god this is going to be fantastic. contrary to what her parents might think, what melissa might believe — she’s always been so much better at hiding things than she’s let on. ( you don’t spend your formative years with alison dilaurentis as one of your best friends without learning a thing or seven about lying — and furthermore you don’t spend a lifetime in the hastings manor without being able to break yourself down into little pieces to hide away in order to be the perfect daughter ). it hadn’t taken much convincing on her part, talking trish into doing this, a few simple anecdotes from her childhood — from the time she ran away and they didn’t notice to blaming her for her drug addiction or the multiple times they’d blamed her when an older man pursued her — and the fair haired woman was in on the game. she wonders, briefly, just for a moment, what it says about her to enact such a scheme on her parents given her own history with being played like a fucking fiddle. she blinks away the thought before she can let it eat away at her.
“ well, it’s not what i usually call you, ” a smirk paints itself on her face as she all but beams at trish, preens under the attention, plays the part of devoted girlfriend so well that even mona might’ve believed it. it’s convincing. not that it’s hard to convince her parents of anything in regards to her personal life, having to work hard to fool them would imply that they have ever actually cared about her as her own person, rather than just a potential source of pride or ( more recently, more accurately ) embarrassment. face splits into a grin at trish’s introduction, at how her parents eat up the compliments, as fake as they are, and turn them back around on her. with a pair of defense lawyers as parents it’s no wonder spencer’s turned out the way she has — prone to deflection, lying, asking questions she doesn’t want to know the answers to, chasing after things like a dog with a bone. never letting go. she’s tenacious.
“ oooh babe, before we go we should totally stop by the lake house. ” oh and she’d actually take her there too — absolutely. if for no other reason than to piss her parents off. it’s probably the only thing that she and her family ( should she call them that? are they really her family? they’re not the family she’d choose and really melissa is no more her sister than jason is her brother — it’s all just a clusterfuck ) still agree on. it’s smaller than the house, but it was always much more of a home than the hastings manor ever was, “ it’s nice and cozy. ”
