whether the internet becomes an intolerable surveillance state, ubiquitous subscription model, or unusably ad- or AI-ridden shithole, I think we need to remember
how to do things offline
either on your personal hard drive (just because it’s an app doesn’t mean the information is stored in your device) or on paper. I’m not saying the collapse of the internet is imminent, and I’m not suggesting we do everything completely without technology, or even stop using it until we have to. (to be clear, I also don’t think the internet will just blink out of existence, suddenly stop being a thing at all; rather I think it might continue to lose its usefulness to the point where it’s impossible to get anything done. anyway) but some people may have forgotten how we got by before the internet (I almost have!), and the younger generation might not have experienced it at all.
I figure most people probably use the internet mainly for communication with friends and family, entertainment and creation (eg. writing), and looking up how to do things, so here’s how to do those things offline:
First and most importantly, download everything important to you onto at least one hard drive and at least one flashdrive! files can get corrupted and hardware can get damaged or lost, but as long as you keep backup copies, you have much-closer-to-guaranteed access versus hoping a business doesn’t decide to paywall, purge, or otherwise revoke your access. I would recommend getting irreplaceable photos printed as well
download and/or print/write down:
anything important to you - photos/videos, journals, certificates, college transcripts
contact info - phone numbers and/or addresses of friends/family (know how to contact them if you can’t use your favourite messaging app), doctors (open hours would be good too), veterinarians if you have pets, and work
how-to’s - recipes (one, two), emergency preparedness (what do I do if… eg. I smell gas)
other things you might google: cleaning chemicals to NOT mix, what laundry tag symbols mean, people food dogs and cats can and can’t eat, plant toxicity to pets
and know offline ways to find things out - local radio station, newspaper, a nearby highway rest area might have a region map, public libraries usually have a bunch of resources
also, those of you who get periods should strongly consider not using period tracking apps! here’s how to track your period manually
free printable period tracker templates (no printer? public libraries usually charge a few cents per page, or you can recreate it by hand)
moving on to entertainment, you can still get most media for free! it’s completely legal to download your favourite movies to your own personal hard drive, you just can’t sell or distribute copies (not legal advice)
movies: wcostream.tv (right click the player) - the url changes every once in a while but usually redirects; I recently noticed that it’s hiding a lot of movies behind “premium,” so it may or may not work anymore | download youtube videos
music: how to get music without streaming it | legal free downloads
games: steamunlocked.net - doesn’t have every game and can be slow to update, but very reliable
books: free online libraries | legal free downloads
otherwise passing time:
active outdoor games
for road trips (social verbal games)
for when power’s out
for sheltering in place (not all offline, but good ideas)
board games (often found at thrift stores)
ad-free customisable games collection (mobile)
read, write, draw, or whatever your craft is, sing, dance, clean, reorganise, take a bath
go outside - excuses include napping (if safe), eating, reading, finding cool plants/animals/rocks, playing with the dog
places to go include:
zoos and museums can be surprisingly cheap
parks and nature preserves
library, mall, or game shop
and a few miscellaneous things for good measure:
time budgeting | household management
how to use a planner | I’ve had success with visually blocked-out schedules like these
please add on if you have any other offline alternatives to common uses of the internet!

TO ALL ARTISTS!!
If you don’t support AI generated stuff, plz read this!!
There’s this thing called Nightshade that makes you poison AI every time it tries to steal the drawing you put in the program, so their “art” gets damaged and makes the results rlly bad >:3
Many people still think that AI is good, and are confused of why many people hate it, so let me explain:
1: AI steals people’s jobs
Artists, writers, musicians, trip planners,.. these people who enjoy what they do so much they decide they want to do it for the rest of their life, get their dreams completely discarded by others, justifying it by saying “it is a cheap and accesible way to “create” art/ music/ ”, while the ones who get hurt both financially and emotionally are the creators of such pieces
2: Art is human
Art is basically one of the few things that only humans can do. It can reflect our emotions, and its beauty comes from the heart of someone who enjoys what they do. By supporting AI, you’re supporting robots with no feelings or emotions who are programmed to steal that form of showing how you feel, and all that effort you put into making it, only for “growing in technology” or whatever, which leads us to the next point:
3: Art takes effort
Producing music (writing, playing an instrument, singing,..), drawing (in digital, 3d, traditional,..), writing (studying ortography, structure, etc + writing characters, places, plot,..), and all other forms of art also share something: The effort. The time it takes to study, practice, find a style, perfection it, all that way, takes a whole life. A whole life of making what you like. For it to be taken away by a machine in a few seconds of “loading audio/image/text..”
There are many more reasons that I can’t cover right now, if anyone who can write more sees this, please reblog it saying so. The more, the better :)
If you’re going to use it, I’d reccomend you to post it in twitter (since yk what happens there -_-), but if you do it on tumblr, don’t reblog so they don’t suspect or however tumblr works with these things. For this to work, go to settings in tumblr and activate the permission for AI to use your work (I don’t reccomend you to do it in tumblr though, it takes ALL of your artwork and writing, not only the infected one, so be aware)
But if you’re not going to and look forward to it, plz spread the word!!
Thx for your time and have a nice day ^^
#ai art#ai artwork#artificial intelligence#chatgpt#machine learning#spread the word#spread awareness#putting a lot of tags so this is found more easily!! ;)

Pls speak more on your many Uno thoughts, i'd love to hear them
*rolls up sleeves* And you shall have them!
Okay, since a flesh-and-blood Uno is the idea currently knawing at the back of my brain, that's the one you're gonna get. (Sorry if you just meant general headcanons instead.)
(Also, I tend to merge with DT17 because I just- Really like it. It's the only series to actually elaborate on Della's character instead of her being a distant, faceless person in the background.)
When Everett takes Uno with him to fight his home planet, Uno is a pretty fierce planner/help during the war.
That's because he's learned how to be an unorthodox thinker from Donald. The McDucks and Ducks tend to come at whatever problem they're facing sideways since they deal with bizarre/insane things all the time that no one else had to deal with before (or no one successfully solved before). Uno doesn't come at problems like that, but he's learned enough from exposure to make himself stop and try again at a different angle if his plan isn't working out the way he wants it to.
This difference in logic does a very good job of tripping up the Coronians, and they're getting very frustrated by it. (They are just so unused to it. They don't know what to do.)
Eventually, someone figures out that it's not Ducklair who's making these frustrating plans but an AI under his command.
So they try to come up with a way to catch the AI. And they can't just try to lock it up, because it's smart and clever and built to learn, it would eventually escape. (It has to be, for it to be causing them so much trouble.)
Then someone suggests they find a way to make it- not an AI anymore. Some way to fully cut it off from any kind of technological link that would allow it to continue its work.
Then they would have seriously hindered Everett's forces and they would have a potential hostage. Because, sure, Ducklair might not be super invested in his creations, but others on his side might be.

AITA for the mission failing?
I (52M) was in charge of directing the first manned round trip to another planet. The mission was already in the advanced planning stage when signs of intelligent life was discovered at the planet, so the mission profile was changed to include investigating the alien artifact. By direct presidential order its existence was kept a complete secret, because of the danger of cultural shock, and to prevent our enemies from seizing it.
The original crew was already trained but didn't have security clearance, so to prevent leaks, it was decided investigation of the artifact would be known onboard during the mission only by the ship's AI computer, which was not permitted to tell the crew until they got to their destination. I pointed out several objections to this policy, but they were overruled at a higher level so I abated. The mission was the top priority so the computer was programmed to carry out the mission autonomously in case of the crew being incapacitated.
I signed off on the orders and the mission went ahead. A year into the mission, the ship's computer malfunctioned and killed most of the crew, the last man deactivated everything and is presumed missing. I was forced to take the fall for it and resign, but neither I or any of the planners was informed the computer could go insane if it had to hide information from the crew.
So was this my fault?

Rules: Tag 10 people you’d like to know better!
I got tagged by @shootingstarpilot <3 so here we go!
—————
Relationship Status: Single, and honestly it’s kinda nice—yeah I’d like a romantic relationship, but I find being single very…peaceful. Plus I have some great friends, so I’m not particularly upset about it.
Favorite Color: Forest Green or any shade of Dark Blue
Favorite Food: Toasted Sourdough Bread + any number of toppings. I go through so much sourdough bread because I’ll buy a bunch of different toppings and just eat fancy toast the whole week. Some of my favorite combinations include-
- Bacon, Fried Egg, and Cheddar Cheese
- Pepperjack Cheese, Caramelized Onions, and Fried Green and Red Peppers
- Queso and Jalapeños
- Mayo, Bologna, and Fried Egg (don’t knock it, until you try it—I know it sounds weird)
Song Currently Stuck In My Head: Vigilante Shit by Taylor Swift (tbh any song by Taylor Swift will constantly be playing on repeat in my head)
Last Thing I Googled: “Alternative writing platforms for Google Docs that aren’t like Word”
Listen, I’ve seen so many people being like “oh, you need to switch from Google Docs to another writing platform, they’re gonna let AI scrape your data!” (I do not know how true that is) and I was like “yknow what? Sure, I’ll try to find one”
BUT EVERY OTHER PLATFORM IS BASICALLY JUST WORD UNDER A DIFFERENT NAME AND I LITERALLY HATE USING WORD
So yeah, at this point, Google can just take my data—I’m sure that explicit CodyWan one shot I’m writing is gonna come in handy for them in the future (/sarcasm)
Time: At the time of posting, it’s 11:14 pm, I’m in Eastern Standard Time
Dream Trip: I’m not much of a trip planner, but I’d love to go to somewhere with a nice big forest and mountains everywhere, preferably somewhere cool but not cold—somewhere peaceful
Something I Want: Ngl I’d kill to buy a nice lightsaber, but I’m headed to college soon and idk if I’d use it there
—————
Tagging my hoes ( @pro-penlicker and @girlmaster132 ) and then @itsgoldleaf @ankahikoibaat @adiduck and open tags for anyone else who’d like to join!

I Quit Persona 5 Strikers 29 Minutes In, and I Don’t Care if it “Gets Better”.
I am a major Shin Megami Tensei and Persona fan of 9 years at this point. Persona 5 is, to me, an unquestionably great game, as evidenced by the gamer-level-mainstream status it somehow managed to rise to through the power of supreme recommendability. Despite its flaws, Persona 5’s unique style and refreshing honesty made it feel like the first truly modern RPG experience to come out in a long time (in 2016/2017). With its release, Atlus managed to finally and definitively prove to the world that their more artistic approach to game creation was not inherently inaccessible to a wide audience, they had simply yet to strike the proper balance of strangeness, approachable mechanics, and the flourish necessary to make a turn-based game feel like an action game.
P5S is not, however, an Atlus game. However involved Atlus may have been, it is an ω-Force game, you know, those otaku that convince big IP-holders like Nintendo to let them play action figures with their most beloved characters?
Atlus sent Toru Yorogi, a living embodiment of the company’s above-average treatment of its staff (the man went from QA on P4A, to planner/writer for its sequel (too bad P4AU’s story was such a disappointment compared to P4A though)), and Yusuke Nitta (a planner on P5 very difficult to find more info on, he might be the same guy who wrote the light novel “If The RPG World Had Social Media”, which is very P5S) to assist ω-Force’s Takaaki Ogata (one of the guys they typically have in a game design role in one of their Warriors games with essentially copy-pasted design) in writing the game’s script. Now, most people may think it’s silly to focus on the script in an ω-Force game, and yes, it is. However, the first two words of this game’s title are “Persona 5”, you know, that masterpiece gamer-bros put down their NG+7 runs of Dark Souls III so they could “actually play just for the story”? The Phatom Theives are the current standard that the current generation of game-enjoyers will likely be comparing all future JRPG parties to. They are powerful modern archetypes that managed to resonate with players their own age. While not the brightest or most tactful group of misfits, the Phatom Theives live on in our hearts because of their honesty and sincerity, despite the cynicism and toxic adultism of the society they were born into. It is, therefore, not unfair to say a large portion of the audience for P5S, as with any Persona spin-off, plays the game as little more than an excuse to see these characters again, and experience the next chapter of their story. Such is the case for myself and literally everyone I know who has played the game.
It was incredibly warm and inviting at first. Excellent opening theme by Lotus Juice and Lyn (with great work from the ω-Force staff as well), followed by 20 minutes of that ooey-gooey Persona 5 slice of life. Just seeing Ann again made me nearly cry, and I yelled at my character to “huge her!!”, platonically (Ann is my P5 bestie). When my character said “I missed you” to these people, it felt, more than any dialogue option in P5, like something I was saying myself, through the character.
However, after we’ve finished our hellos, the first thing The Phantom Thieves do is download an AI assistant and agree to buy everything it tells them to for their camping trip… At least they do their shopping at real in-person stores, but come on. This whole “Emma” thing is so stupid. Like, I know the Phantom Theives are goofs, but you’re seriously telling me they went from exposing/combatting the evils of capitalism to this? Not only is it out of character, it’s outside the spirit of the original. I saved and quit at 29 minutes and proceeded to watch the excellent documentary on the making of the game’s opening theme instead.
I was sure the game was only setting up Emma to somehow subvert it later on, mind you, I just didn’t want to see that story play out. I didn’t want to see the heroes fall for some stupid fad and have a shocking reveal that actually, it wasn’t that simple - not after everything we learned together, from eachother, in the past.
My own friends, however, really let me down here. Refusing to teach me anything, or even level with me, they hardly acknowledged my opinion:
This is a different guy:
And my irl friend just kind of laughed or whatever (he’s kind of shy). Seriously, what the hell is this? All these people willingly start conversations with me, and have more experience with this game, they should be willing to talk about this! I’ll give you my impressions:
First guy is poor so he watches Let’s Plays of games like this. His life is kind of rough; he lives in a small town in Texas that doesn’t see his intelligence through his blunt honesty, and it’s cost him jobs. Pretty much all this corpo media stuff is a very important escape to him, and he will vehemently defend even the stupidest aspects of games he hasn’t played, but is a fan of, because video games are the light of his life. Dude should just get offline and emulate one of the hundreds of games he’d be able to form a proper opinion on, and have a more genuine experience with.
Second guy is a sad, all too common story. He bought the game at launch, and got a ways into it, but has had the thing sitting on his shelf for a lomg time now, unbeaten. He’s paid his $60, and the greater price that comes with it, real life investment in a video game. Now, sunk-cost fallacy dictates he must beat the game some day, in order to ensure he gets his money’s worth, even though there are hundreds of games he could have more fun emulating for free. He doesn’t want to talk about the game, because he doesn’t want to think about the game. He doesn’t want to have to decide whether to sell it or finish it, so he says he’ll finish it, but puts it off, and would much rather continue our conversation about Pokémon Unbound, a well-made ROM hack that he’d much rather play than fork over another stupid $60 for Scarlet or Violet versions.
And like I said, third guy is kind of shy and awkward; we’re still leveling up our social-link.
Anyway, the moral of the story is, don’t be like these people. Don’t buy everything your phone (or Amazon Echo, throw that garbage out and learn to flick a light switch yourself!) tells you to. Don’t shill out to these stupid companies. Don’t pay grown men $60 to play with action figures on your tv. Don’t waste your breath defending people that don’t care about you. Emulate that old classic game you’ve heard of, and if you don’t like it, emulate the next one. Or like, watch an anime or go for a walk or volunteer or something, just don’t give away your money/power for the vaporware we call video games.
Merry Christmas, everyone. Peace and love.
