An unpopular opinion? Personally, I don't think a BDSP-style remake would be a huge detriment to Unova.

Ofc, I don't want them to get a faithful remake and would favor something like ORAS or Legends, but BW still holds up pretty well with its story and characters. There's not a ton more that I really want to see from the story, aside from maybe more info on Ghetsis and the Shadow Triad, and what the original Dragon looked like. But what is there is pretty solid already. Mostly, I would like to see QoL updates to alleviate grinding.

BDSP was a worst-case scenario for DP because Platinum just did everything so much better than the originals (pacing, story/characters, Mons roster), and then they backtracked on most of it for BDSP. There's also a lot of missed potential when certain characters like Cyrus and Cynthia have received a fair amount of development and personal history about them outside of their initial games.

And this is still a long time away off too, but a faithful remake would be an even worse-case scenario for XY, since those games had so much potential that never got properly developed. At least we have Platinum for the definitive Sinnoh experience, but Kalos never got its third version.

Hi????? Oh my god, I had to stop and check that this wasn't one of my other blogs getting this ask. Thank you so much, I really appreciate the compliment!!

As for my headcanons/theories... most of them are generally character-based, but i have a few I'd be happy to share! (readmore because this gets long ^^")

General headcanons:

All of the Pokémon Leagues in the world vary on strength and community investment. Near the bottom are leagues like Alola's (brand new, little support), Paldea's (made for multiple Champions, one of their leaders double-dips as Elite 4), Kanto's (prolonged, unresolved absence of one Gym Leader, lack of a Champion until your rival), and Unova's (consistent turnover in leaders, champions, and gym locations; only league to canonically be defeated by a Team). From there, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Kalos are all relatively similar in "solid league" territory, with Galar's being the most heavily invested-in and supported league in the series.

Humans with psychic powers, medium abilities, special type affinities (think Iris's "understanding the hearts of Dragons", rather than typical gym leaders), or otherwise inexplicable abilities (whatever the Shadow Triad is doing?) tend to have slightly Pokémon-influenced genetics, as ties back to the infamous Japanese Canalave City library entry. This tends to go many generations back, rather than direct. (No, N is not a Zoroark. Could he be distantly related to one? Maybe.)

The average age for gym challenges varies by region. (Our protags do not necessarily hit that average.) Kanto through Sinnoh skew younger, from 10-12 (since they're all geographically in similar areas). Alola is solidly at 11. Unova and Kalos tend to be somewhere from 13-15. Paldea is literally any age, hence the adults in uniforms. Galar trends older, more towards an average of 16. Yes, this makes Leon's refusal to involve you in any situation ever look sillier. (Leon is considered exceptionally young for the challenge at 10, and all of your potential challengers in the Champion Cup look generally in their older teens. Also, I refuse to believe Marnie's wearing a crop top for her League uniform before she's 16.)

"Official" starter Pokémon are endangered species. Professors generally hope that by giving them to young trainers, they'll encourage species awareness and growth.

Battles follow anime rules more than game rules. Terrain advantages, move combinations to create effects, etc. are all a part of battles. The only exception, for the sake of my sanity when creating content, is that fish Pokémon float. And even I'm aware that's not realistic, even if it's funny.

Character headcanons:

The "main" protags in my mind are Red, Ethan, May, Lucas, Hilda, Rosa, Calem, Selene, Gloria, "Akari", and Florian.

In order of public perception from "weird kid" to "popular kid" for protags: Red, Gloria, Lucas, Selene, May, Hilda, Ethan, "Akari", Calem, Rosa, Florian.

None of the members of either the Galar Gang or the Paldea Gang are normal.

Hop is trans. While his being trans is in no way related to Leon, his attempts at proving himself and trying to live up to his brother's example of masculinity are at least a little related.

Bede's time in the orphanage is a result of parental neglect rather than money or being orphaned by definition.

Nemona is not a stalker, JFC. She's just excited to have a friend equally interested in battling as her for once in her goddamn life. She is very touchy, huggy, clingy without realizing it, though.

Penny is very heavily involved in whatever the Pokémon equivalent of Tumblr and AO3 are. She convinces Arven, Nemona, and Florian to watch anime with her on the regular.

funny arranged marriage AU idea I came up with for watermelonshipping. wanted to draw something for it but I haven't been able to art today so *shrug*

takes place in a medieval/fantasy setting, each region is a different "kingdom". Blake is the adopted younger sibling of King Leon of Galar, and therefore counts as royalty, but they're also a knight and considered one of the strongest in the kingdom after helping stop the Darkest Day with Hop and saving the neighboring kingdom of Kalos from the Ultimate Weapon with Auberi. a lot of people call them the "champion" and basically yeah they're pretty renowned

BUT across the sea in the kingdom of Unova, their king Alder was recently overthrown and put under the tyrannical rule of Ghetsis. now see Blake originally comes from Unova, so when they catch word of this they get worried decide to go back to try and help stop him. (without Leon knowing. he actually advises against it, because doing something like that could very well start a whole, actual war, but Blake is confident in their abilities and refuses to sit by while their homeland is in turmoil)

they arrive, and are shocked when they immediately get apprehended by guards and have their Pokemon forcibly taken from them... they try to resist, though, and this ends up with them thrown in a cell. some folks come to bail them out, though- a pair of adventurers named Cheren and Bianca. they explain to Blake that one of the new policies placed in by Ghetsis was that no one was allowed to have Pokemon, and anyone who came to the region was forced to release theirs because here, owning them was considered cruel now.

Blake, even MORE pissed off now, decides to go on a journey to both overthrow Ghetsis AND get their pkmn back. Bianca and Cheren join them, also wanting things to go back to normal and hopefully get theirs back as well. during their travels, Blake also runs into a hooded traveler who goes by N- he joins their party for a while, and though they all keep the overthrowing Ghetsis thing a secret from him at first Blake still grows pretty close with him.

when Blake feels comfortable enough to trust him with their true mission, they tell him, but... they don't get the reaction they were expecting. he insists that Ghetsis' no Pokemon policy is good actually, that it's for the best so humans can't hurt them anymore. They get into a huge argument about it, until finally N decides to spill a secret of his own- he's Ghetsis' son. heir to the throne. Cheren and Bianca are especially shaken by this revelation, because they knew that Ghetsis' son was not only the guy who defeated Alder, but also the hero of Zekrom.

it's at that moment that N's bodyguards- the shadow triad- just so happen to arrive and retrieve him since he'd been absent from the castle for a while. they'd overheard the prior conversation, and capture Blake and their party.

Blake is brought before Ghetsis, and he recognizes them as one of Leon's siblings. Ghetsis considers their presence from here a challenge from Galar, and goes to send a letter to declare war despite Blake's protests saying they came here of their own volition and pleads to keep their kingdom out of it. before he does, though, he somehow manages to find out Blake is the chosen hero of Reshiram- something they don't even know themself yet.

Ghetsis comes up with a plan- he already has Zekrom under his son's command, maybe this could be his ticket to obtaining Reshiram as well. So, instead of a declaration of war, he sends Leon a different offer- a union between their respective heirs. a marriage. he threatens that if Leon declines, they'll have no choice but to go to war. for now, he sends Blake back to Galar so he can give them time to consider. obviously, Leon hates this idea! he wants to find a different solution, he couldn't bare putting one of his siblings in a situation like that. despite Blake not liking it either, though, especially if its to the guy that betrayed their trust, they insist Leon accepts the offer in order to ensure both Galar and Unova's safety. they'll instead try to go along with whatever Ghetsis has up his sleeve until they can find a way to take him down from the inside.

reluctantly, Leon sends them back, and the deal is sealed. for the next few weeks before the ceremony, Blake lives in the castle with N. the two obviously have their beef but N tries to treat them cordially, and Blake tries to do the same for the sake of peace and the plan. ohhh boy do they struggle at it though LMAO the mutual passive aggressiveness is insane

but eventually, Blake does learn that N does genuinely love Pokemon and genuinely believes what he's doing is right, he's just misguided. that doesn't mean he is right, obviously, but they still get the feel there's something deeper going. finally, they manage to somehow figure out Ghetsis' true plan: he doesn't actually care about N or his beliefs at all, he's just using him for power. he doesn't even release the Pokemon he has his knights take from the people, he's actually gathering them for an army he prepares to take over other regions with. and that he also plans to break the peace deal he made with Galar, that he's only using Blake to get Reshiram, etc etc etc.

they tell N all of this- he doesn't believe them at first, but like. I haven't really figured out how things play out from here but he finds out and after going through a mental breakdown about it he decides to help them overthrow his father. or maybe a big reveal similar to the game happens during or shortly after the wedding ceremony?? I dunno yet. anyways that's all I got so far but yeah gonna try making art for this AU later

I feel at peace after finishing this! While it was great to finish, I do miss working on the process though. Nonetheless, it took a good while to complete this due to real life stuff and creative stumbles. I wanted to nail Lysandre's character and stay true to canon as much as possible, but at the same time show more facets of his that were not addressed/fully fleshed out in the games as opposed to the anime and manga counterparts. I found him difficult to draw and write lol. Lysandre was a pretty interesting character with an actually well built evil organization if XY went deeper with them.

With that, a three-part comic series, unofficially titled as the Triad of Kalos, has been finished! This mini project was a way of dabbling in good ol Kalos' story and its potential, added with my ideas.

Maybe you don't know, but our stepfather Ghetsis did something very bad in Unova.

So he said "I don't want to see this stupid region anymore"...

Colress took our brothers to Alola and wanted us to go with them.

I don't like him...

So we go with Ghetsis. I know it's hard to understand, but he wasn't a bad father to us.

Without him, we would have died on the street... Like the triad... Like N...

The pokemon oc no one asked for 🤩

Connor is the child of Lysandre. He ran away when he was 6 because of neglect and the fact his partner Fennekin was threatened. When he ran away his father was visiting Unova so he ended up being stuck there until N found him when he was 8. Connor ended up growing up in the Plasma Castle, though, he never fully believed in Pokemon liberation because he wanted to see the world for himself before he made his choice. Eventually he was able to leave the castle when he was 11 and met Hilbert, at this time his partner was now a Braixen. When he first met Hilbert it was right after his first battle with N so Connor got to hear Hilbert's whole league dream that he shouts whenever he gets the chance. After traveling with Hilbert and Hilda (forgot to mention she's here) he decided he still wasn't sure on what was right for Pokemon and maybe he'd never know. Connor returns to the Plasma Castle only to discover its in ruins. Thankfully the Shadow Triad is there to explain what happened. After learning no one knew where N was he basically broke down (N was like a father to him). Connor decided to stay at the castle because it was the only home he knew. The Shadow Triad leaves him with Team Plasma's whereabouts.

Enter black/white 2. Connor, after some consideration joins Team Neo Plasma and because he was raised almost completely by N he's given a high rank immediately. Connor having common sense refuses to where the outfit except for the hat and because of his high ranking it's accepted. While in Neo Plasma he mainly helps Colress with his research on Kyreum and even creates some Colress Machines. He is soon given a mission to watch some kids who have been messing up Team Plasma's plans these kids being Nate, Rosa, and Hugh. Connor takes interest (not a romantic one he just wants a friend) in Hugh seeing his determination to get back his sisters Purrloin. Of course Connor has no idea of Ghetsis' true intentions. He appears with Colress on Route 4 where all the Crustle are and challenges Rosa to a battle. She wins and the game proceeds normally until the Plasma Frigate when Rosa and Nate separate from Hugh. Hugh ends up having to battle Connor and try to get through to him that it's not his job to carry out N's ideal. He eventually gets through to him and Hugh moves on to help Rosa and Nate. After everything happens Connor reunites with N and everything is great until he has the wonderful idea to go visit Kalos because it's his birthplace.

For obvious reasons he isn't here to see his dad and instead Professor Sycamore. He makes his way to Lumiose City and meets Serena, Calem and Shauna who are picking their Kanto starter pokemon. Just to clarify Serena picks Chespin and Charmander, Calem picks Froakie and Bulbasaur and Shauna picks Fennekin and Squirtle. Sycamore introduces Connor to them as a friend of his and Connor upon being the same age as these three is asked to travel with them which he accepts. He goes off on his own a lot of times and mainly only appears when Team Flare is present and sometimes to give tips on gyms. When he does show up after a Team Flare attack it's mainly to shame their ambitions and make known his own beliefs that the world's imperfections are what make us who we are and is what we ultimately learn from. Now, before all this Connor joins in on the conversation in Café Soleil taking Diantha's side and leaving Lysandre with a completely shocked expression. When Serena and Calem have infiltrated Team Flare's Secret HQ the first battle with Lysandre is interrupted by Connor and Delphox. He tells Serena he'll take over the battle from there and that they should continue on and find the Ultimate Weapon in which they both end up catching the legendary pokemon. Calem catches Xerneas and Serena catches Yveltal. Serena faces off against Lysandre and wins but Lysandre still uses the Ultimate Weapon. They all leave and Serena has to tell Connor that his dad is dead. It doesn't really go well with him because even after everything that was still his dad and he gets the group hug he deserves from Serena, Calem and Shauna.

Bonus: Serena is the one who wins the pokemon league

There is an Alola adventure but it isn't as important as these three it's basically him meeting Grimsley and going back to Unova to become Elite Four in Grimsley's place. He also has to fight Lysandre again because of Rainbow Rocket and catches Zygarde.

The Striation Triplets' Backstory in my AU

Marietta302, ask and you will receive! This is the Striation Triplets' backstory for the Everything is Better with Triplets AU, because I love the backstory I cooked up for them and want to yell about it

Their Childhood/Pre-Finding out Major Blanc's True Identity

-Before we get any further, allow me to tell you the backstory of Cilan, Cress, Chili, and Crispin's parents (who are still unnamed at this point): their mom left her home in the Orange Islands to try to live life on her own, but it was very difficult for her. Not only was she trying to get through law school, but the job she had didn't exactly pay the best. She travelled through every region pre Gen 9 (aka Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, Alola, and Galar). She ended up meeting the quartet’s (trans) father at some point during these travels. He was a butler, yet he wore a frilly maid ensemble, which covered everything below the neck, besides his hands. Anyway, they got married, moved into Unova, and planned to have children. They really didn't have much money to their names, but their mom chose to hold off on her degree to save, and they were rationing quite a bit to make room for one more in the house. But then it became apparent that they were going to add four more. Babies obviously cost a lot of money, time, patience and work, doubly so for four at the same time, but unfortunately the boys' father was just impatient and easily agitated enough that he couldn't handle the pressure he was under. So one day he left, leaving his wife to deal with four little boys. It was even harder for her now, and with the job she had at the time it was bound to get worse. So she swallowed her pride and asked her parents for help, who were more than willing to give it to her in the form of a loan of money (and it ended up being a lot more than expected). Their mom used it wisely, spending on the boys as need be while also choosing to continue her classes at law school. Eventually, thanks to her hard work, she graduated and made it big, and earned herself a nice job in the Kalos law firm. Unfortunately this also meant that she still had very little time with her kids, which is why Cilan, Cress and Chili are waiters in Striation City. But now, thankfully, the boys are no longer in need of money.

-I imagine their meeting of their monkeys to be like that one episode in BW, where they would have these designs:

-Young Crispin foreshadows Major Blanc by wearing a kid version of his design, minus the gas mask. Kid Crispin swaps out Major Blanc's bandolier with a combat vest, but he still has the vibes Major Blanc's design had.

-When they grew up, Cress, Chili and Cilan were waiters, while Crispin cooked for their restaurant. Then Crispin saw the Shadow Triad and thought they were his brothers so he ran away, and fell in with Team Plasma.

-He was renamed Major Blanc, and was made into Ghetsis' right-hand-man.

-Blissfully unaware of the tragic fate that had befallen their brother, Cilan, Cress, and Chili joined the League at a relatively young age (17 y/o); because of it, the League allowed them to co-run the gym as a trio.

-Six years later, the brothers met their brother, now Major Blanc

-They hated him, as he shot them with paintballs. The fact that the triplets (technically) are children makes this all so much worse.

-Yet, Team Plasma don’t care while Crispin's brothers get near constantly pelted with paint.

-Major Blanc hated them, as he thought they were the Shadow Triad.

-Cress had nightmares about him, even more so than Faba. At least Major Blanc didn't take Cress's place that one time.

-Crispin doesn't remove his gasmask, as he's afraid the rest of Team Plasma would totally notice that "Major Blanc" is not apart of them if he did (Though N had his suspicions long before Ash's Angels found out).

Post-finding out about Major Blanc's True Identity:

-Yup, the triplets and Crispin do in fact have a long-lost brother story arc, but it’s done less dirty than a certain arc from tetocu

-There would lots of denial and needing to stay calm about the reveal.

-Cilan is ok with Crispin after they explain to him they are not the Shadow Triad

-The quartet bickers a lot, but they slowly start to get along

-Team Plasma does notice that Major Blanc is gone. Which is why when the triplets confront him during the BW arc, we see Ghetsis ready to flatten them with a steamroller if one were available.

-During an episode, the triplets and Crispin share a good moment, but the former Plasma member warns that they have to put sibling things on pause again so they can focus on the journey. Chili is supportive as always and suggests potentially asking Ash to watch their backes, which Crispin is receptive to.

-Crispin would have horrible nightmares about Ghetsis

-During Alola, Crispin is recruited by the Aether Foundation, made an intern, endures Faba, and reconciles with his brothers thanks to Cress

-Also finds out that Cress is part of the Ultra Guardians. It took a moment for that to sink in, and when it did, his screams of shock and surprise were likely heard from the other side of Alola.

-Crispin is made a waiter while Cress studies in Kalos.

-I’d think Crispin would love Castelia City. And he'd grow a friendship with Burgh

-I can see Crispin being the kind who watched the early Disney Renaissance films

-Of course, the whole thing with Team RR happens in this AU and Major Blanc comes back. Maxie manipulates Major Blanc the same way he does Courtney. Thank god Major Blanc turns on Maxie, Courtney and Tabitha.

Their Half Sister

-Yup, the quadruplets have a half sister in this AU.

-Her name is Sawyer (nicknames herself Saw to differentiate herself from Hoenn Sawyer).

-She was created by their mom, and none other than Colress from Pokémon Black and White.

-She's basically a test tube baby

-Sawyer is basically Ash's rival throughout Journeys, her reflexes (and wit) as quick as lightning

-Her type ratio is skewed. Like, heavily, to the point where it's half electric (her Emolga, Dedenne, and Jolteon) and half ghost (her Froslass and Dusknoir). And then there's goggles, her beloved shiny eiscue (which can talk).

-Sawyer has freckles. She has slightly choppy, shoulder length bottle blond hair tied in a ponytail (she cuts her own hair) and she has heterochromia. One yellow eye, one purple.

-She wears a yellow bow tie and the white half apron her half-brothers have. The black vest her brothers have over a white dress shirt. Black skirt mostly hidden under half apron. Black Mary Jane shoes with white knee socks

-While she finds Crispin bizarre, she develops a begrudging respect for the boy and his siblings. She has some deep rooted issues that see her exploited by Team RR

-Hates the Terrible Trio of Maxie, Tabitha and Courtney.

-She openly hates Team Magma. Whereas Crispin is a misunderstood antihero, Sawyer is a quickwitted little girl who can run circles around you in no time flat, and her Pokemon have humiliated them more than once.

-Sometimes led Team Magma into Anime Jiggypuff's path…

-Goggles also hates Team Magma, but clings to a mean and spiteful facade because the only way she can cope with Team Magma’s suffering is to revel in it.

Courtney: You haven't talked to the Striation siblings NEARLY as much as of late.

Tabitha: "Why?"

Maxie: "I fear no man. But that... girl... she scares me."

-I forgot to mention this on my first post, but Chili is kinda this kid who grew up too fast. His parents just aren’t around much, so as the eldest, he’s had to become the replacement parent, but he DESPERATELY wishes he could gossip with his brothers, or go out for food or ice cream with them, like you'd see other siblings do. He gets his wish while travelling with Ash.

-The siblings have kinda a strained relationship at first because the triplets are gym leaders, Sawyer’s kinda an introvert, and when he was Major Blanc, Crispin didn’t even care about his brothers. But they slowly grow into this quintet that can face off against even the most evil villain.

-I won't make Sawyer into a Mary Sue or a background character, and she definitely won't have even less empathy for others than Paul of DP fame.

-Attempts to stop Team Aqua, but it goes sideways in some way
