Feats of Strength is a best-of-three system that encourages teams to take risks early on by contesting different objectives. They are as follows:
First Blood
First Tower
First Three Epic Jungle Monsters (Drakes, Herald, any 3 Void Grubs)
Upon one team completing two of the three above Feats, they’ll have won the contest and will receive the blessing of Noxus buff. This buff will immediately grant a small bonus to any tier 2 boots belonging to players on the Feat winning team.
After completing two legendary items, a player on the Feat winning team can spend gold to upgrade their boots to tier 3, which grants another small stat bonus and a unique effect depending on which boots you upgraded.

it's interesting the show decided to strip a lot of the natural color from the silo, like one of the first things established is that the stairs were once painted/are covered in chipped remnants of it, and that the airlock door is yellow

sleep deprived - op81
an: I’m still thinking about girldad!oscar so here’s another little blurb part 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
in which: mom!reader gets to a point of dangerous exhaustion, worrying Oscar.
pairing: dad!oscar piastri x mom!reader
warnings: pet names (baby, honey), if there’s any others lmk!
‧‧₊˚ ⋅* ۶ৎ ‧₊ ‧₊˚ ⋅
You stumbled into the kitchen, and Oscar noticed almost instantly that you weren’t okay. He called your name softly but received no answer.
He noted the curve of your arm, as if your daughter, isla, was resting in your arms. But she was rolling around on her play pad right next to Oscar. Worry overtook every one of Oscar’s thoughts.
He watched with concerned eyes as you opened the fridge and pulled out a nearly empty baby bottle. He calculated his next moves carefully, not wanting to make you upset. You tilted the bottle as if to feed the invisible baby.
Oscar called your name again and received a tired him in response. “Baby I think you need to rest.” He suggested.
You shook your head, moving to sit on the couch near him. “Isla needs me.” You mumbled the explanation. It was hardly even coherent.
He glanced at Isla to make sure she was distracted enough before leaving her side. He sat next to you, taking the bottle from your hands. You whined, “No, Isla-“ “Isla’s on the floor.” He pointed out with a sigh. You frowned, and suddenly the baby in your arms was no longer there.
“C’mon, let’s get you to bed.” Oscar stood, taking your hand with him but you refused to budge. “But she needs me.” Your gaze was on your daughter who was currently chewing on a silicon ring used for teething.
“It’s alright. I’ll look after her.” He tugged on your hand again, but you remained where you sat.
Oscar sighed, and despite your protests, he hoisted you into his arms. “Hey, put me down!” Your demands fell onto deaf ears. You tried to squirm but he only held you tighter.
He kicked your bedroom door open and laid you carefully on the bed. When you tried to get up, he pushed you right back down. “If I have to hold you down until you go to sleep, I will.” He was stern with it, pointing a threatening finger at you.
You finally huffed, settling into the sheets. “Fine. Just wake me up in an hour.” You grumble.
Safe to say, Oscar did not wake up up in an hour. He treaded around the house on his tip toes, wincing when a floorboard would creek.
You were approaching hour two when isla started to cry. She’d just ate, so Oscar assumed it was a teething issue. He offered her the teething toys but she rejected all of them after just a couple of bites. So he sacrificed his finger for isla to chew on, and thankfully she didn’t reject that one. He cautiously peeked his head into your bedroom, and silently cheered when he saw that you were still fast asleep.
It wasn’t until sixteen hours later that you woke up.
The room was dark, the blackout curtains drawn closed. The smell of bacon and pancakes wafted through the air in your room. “Breakfast for dinner?” You asked to the empty space before turning to the clock. What should’ve been 17:30 was actually 8:51.
“Oscar!” You yelled, storming out of the room to confront him. You stood at the kitchen island next to isla in her high chair, glaring holes into the back of Oscar’s head.
He turned and smiled at you sweetly. He carried a plate of fluffy pancakes and bacon over to you, placing it right in front of you. He chose to ignore your sharp gaze. “Morning, honey.” He greeted, placing a kiss on your temple.
“Don’t ‘morning honey’ me! Why didn’t you wake me up?” You demanded of him while isla babbled beside you and tossed a piece of bacon at you. “Thanks, love.” You replied sarcastically, placing the strip back on her plate.
Oscar just smiled, unfazed by your reaction. “You needed the sleep.”
“I didn’t-“
“You slept for sixteen hours. You didn’t even wake up when isla was crying. You were too exhausted to even admit it, and you were hallucinating.” He stated, gentle and cautious. The worry in his voice, and the concern on his face made you frown. “I love you, and I love how independent you want to be, but you’re not alone in this. You’re taking on more responsibilities than you need to and you’re not looking after yourself.” Oscar’s hands found your waist. He held onto you with a light grip. “And it’s killing me with worry.” He confessed.
“I’m sorry.” You muttered, not meeting his eyes.
His hands moved from your waist to cup your cheeks. He lifted your head, forcing you to look him in the eyes. He closed the gap between you, leaving a soft peck on your lips. “It’s okay. Just promise me you’ll give yourself a break when you need it.”
You bit the inside of your cheek before nodding. He smiled and kissed you again, breaking apart to laugh when Isla started screeching happily.

You had read about Hybrids going into heat before but you didn't imagine it to be this intense. Felix spends most of his time on the couch in front of the AC shirtless, if not only in his boxers, or in his bedroom. He eats way less than usual, he's always sweating and his fangs have definitely grown resulting in aching gums. He's gotten to the point he doesn't remember what it's like not to be hard because he has a constant aching boner that never goes away no matter how much he masturbates. Worst of all of this, he's moody as all hell.
Felix has never gone through such an intense heat, perhaps because he's living with a woman now, but either way he's struggling with his feelings a lot. Between the raging hormones and frustration from lack of control Felix is rather...snappy.
Currently, Felix is up in his room and you have left him alone all day because he wants to be left alone but you worry about him. You make a plate of dinner for him and tread up to his room before knocking on his door. "Felix, I have dinner for you," You call out but he doesn't reply. You open the door to see him lying down in his bedsheets, his eyes open. "Hey," You say softly and Felix's ear twitches. "How are you feeling?"
"Shit," He replies and rolls over, his tail flapping in irritation. You hesitate on how to reply.
"Anything I can do to help?" You ask softly before gently setting the plate on his nightstand.
"I don't know," He growls as his tail slaps harder against the bed. "You should get out," Felix says before rubbing his face up against his pillow.
"I'm worried about you Felix," You hesitantly put a hand to his back and his ears flick up at the sensation, his nose twitching. Felix shakes his head and wiggles away from you. You sit down on the bed next to him and notice his body trembling softly, probably from the raw urge to breed. "Talk to me, I want to make sure you're safe," You rub his back.
"If you stay here much longer you won't be safe," He says gruffly before rolling over to face you. His breath was heavy and his face was flushed, sweat built up on his forehead. He looks up at you with those desperate eyes that squeeze your heart but something is hidden deep within them...You bring a hand up to his cheek, petting him softly, and he dips his cheek right into your hand, rubbing up against your palm. He lets out a soft groan as he feels your skin on his. "I need..." He mumbles incoherently as he slithers closer to you.
"What do you need my baby?" You pet his head softly with your other hand and he groans softly.
"Breed," His hands tremble as he reaches out to claw at your shirt. His breathing gets heavier as his pupils widen, his tail now swaying slowly. You're slightly taken aback by his statement, he was much more direct than you had expected. "Please...let me," Felix nuzzles his head up into your neck, pushing up against you hard.
"I-I don't know Felix..." You continue to pet his head as he growls softly, his teeth grazing over your skin. He then rubs his body up against yours, the heat of his body surging into yours, and you feel his cock desperately rubbing up against your thigh. "Alright," You sigh and Felix grins before biting down on your neck, not too hard, but his fangs make it more painful than intended. You let out a mix of a moan and whimper as you feel him suck on the bite, making the mark more prominent.
"I wanna claim you, make you mine," He growls as his hands run around you body, tugging off your clothes. You simply let him have his way with you because you know that right now, he just needs to let it all out. Once he gets you naked he leans back, his eyes raking over your body vigorously. "You're so hot baby," He growls before leaning down to your stomach, placing kisses all around as his hands run up to your hips, kneading the skin. "You're gonna look even sexier all round and swollen with my seed," He rubs up against your stomach as he lets his fantasies run wild. He didn't know if he could even fertilize you put he could still embrace his breeding urges. "Fuck," He groans before bringing his head down to your core, his hot breath now feeling cold against your heat. "I've been smelling you all week,"
He nuzzles his head between your legs before beginning to give your pussy little kisses and licks. "So sweet," He groans before diving in deeper, now eating you out like he's been starved. His pupils are now completely blown out as he watches your reactions, the way you squirm and throw your head back. You bring a hand down to his hair, grabbing his hair in a tight fist. You notice his tail happily swaying in the air behind him.
His tongue circles around his slit and his eyes roll back, feeling your little hole he's so eager to fill, could he possibly wait? He tries to, focusing on eating you out instead but he can't help himself. "Y/N, can I please," he lifts his head up, his sweaty forehead resting on your pelvis.
"Please what?" You tilt your head, petting his ear softly.
"Breed...I need your consent..." he moans softly as his hands ghost over your hips and thighs, his breath labored and hot on your skin. "Please say it...please let me fill your until you're nice and round, breed you until you're full of my kits," he nibbles on your tummy, leaving another mark just above your pubes.
"Yes Felix," you tuck his hair back messily. "You can...breed me," you hesitate solely because you aren't sure he can but it's the principle of the matter, to fill you, claim you, mate with you.
"Are you sure?" he looks up at you, his lips trembling and his eyes glossy. He pulls himself up weakly, sweat cascading down his body. As he pulls himself above you his eyes lock onto your cunt, he's so ready for this and he hopes you are too. "I don't know if I can control myself..." he mumbles in a low voice before positioning himself accordingly.
"It's okay," you caress the side of his face and he lets out a shaky breath. "Let it all out," you kiss his forehead before leaning back on his pillows, your arms around his shoulders. He takes a deep breath before pushing his hips forward, a choked moan breaking through his lips.
"Fuck," he tosses his head back, smiling wickedly. His ears flick upwards for the first time in days while his tail sways back and forth in excitement. His hips instantly begin to rock into yours sliding in and out smoothly thanks to your mixed arousal. "I wanna breed you so bad," he growls loudly as he claws at the pillow your head rests on. He fights to hold back his lust, not wanting to hurt you, but it's a losing battle.
"Let it out," you moan softly and kiss his nose softly, and his eyes light up. His hips begin to pick up speed and strength, the rolling filling with the sound of his cock ramming into your sloppy pussy. His strong, mating demeanor cracks for a moment, his eyes squinting shut as he whimpers.
"You're so tight," Felix moans as he remains steady but a little uncontrolled, his head fuzzy from lust. You bring a hand up to his hair, fisting it softly, and his vision blurs from the overload of lust. "I'm going insane," he smirks softly as his head falls to your chest, his hips slapping against yours relentlessly. "Need to claim you," he bites your chest, right in the center, symbolizing he has your heart. "You're so good to me, the perfect owner and perfect mate," he smiles seductively as he picks his head back up, sweat dripping down his nose as he watches your body bounce with each thrust. "You're gonna take it all, aren't you? Take all my seed," he growls possessively.
"Yes baby, fill me up," you moan loudly as you claw at his back. "Fuck, I'm close,"
"Yes," he moans, "I can't wait to see that pretty face when you cum," his voice reeks of lust and raw desire burning for you. Felix doubles up his efforts to bring you to the edge. "C'mon baby," he kisses you quickly. "I wanna cum with you," He murmurs before leaning back into your lips, your tongues messily exploring each others mouths. "Almost there baby," He nuzzles his head into your jaw before you feel that rush of warmth through your body and the knot in your belly snaps, fluids rushing out to coat his cock.
"Felix," You moan very softly, nearly a whisper and he unloads inside you. His hips jitter forward as layer after layer of cum pours into you.
"Yes, oh my fucking god," He growls as his body shudders. Felix clings to you tightly as his load fills you up entire. "You're so hot...such a perfect mate," His hand snakes down your body to gently rub where your uterus would be. "Nice and warm hm~?" He smirks softly and you sigh.
"And full," You smile as Felix sits up. He pulls out, your walls and arousal still clinging to him, before sitting next to you. "Feelin better?"
"Yeah, a bit," He nods with a smile and you thought your little ordeal was over. You move to stand up but Felix quickly grabs your hips. "But I need to make sure you're full," He smirks softly as he pulls you back down to the bed. "Full of all my seed," He lays you down on your tummy and you can't deny that you're excited for another round, another rush of pleasure. "I'm not holding back this time," He growls before holding your body down. "Pin your body down and pump you full of my seed," He thrusts his cock back into you without warning and as he begins to pound into you, you can hear the cum in your cunt sloshing around. "You hear that baby?" He growls before leaning down, caging your body beneath his. Though the question wasn't entirely intended to be answered you couldn't if you wanted to because your mouth was so full of moans, you could hardly function as Felix wrapped a gentle hand around your throat.
Saliva drips down from your lips and Felix grins, quickly licking it away. "Messy girl," He nibbles on your earlobe as his hips slam against your ass, the clap of skin on skin echoing in the room. "You drunk from my cock huh? Can't even talk," He taunts with a growl stuck in his throat. He begins to slam into you harder, the bed shaking with each thrust.
"Fuck! Felix!" You cry out loudly as your eyes roll back, more spit dripping down to your chin and throat before meeting Felix's hand that's wrapped around your throat.
"You cumming?" He says in a slightly teasing way.
"Yeah," You whimper with a soft nod and Felix grins.
"Good girl," He praises into your ear, hoping you'll teeter over the edge soon. His hopes came to light quite quickly after his praise.
"Felix," You pant out and he grins.
"That's me baby," He whispers into your ear as your body shakes from the intensity of your orgasm. He quickly wraps up his orgasm, unloading inside you again, finally satisfying his heat. "Fuck," He pants before laying down on your body. "It's calmed down a little," He sighs softly. "All that release at once...Thank you Y/N," He sighs before cuddling up beside you. "Are you okay?" He looks up at you with those big eyes.
"Yeah, great actually," You chuckle, "But tired," You sigh and Felix nods.
"Me too...we should get some sleep," Felix purrs into your chest as he wraps his body around yours. "My mate,"

Wish me luck, I'm posting this and then taking my math exam! If you don't like it, don't read, stop sending mean asks and submissions!
Breakfast the next morning was horrible.
The awkward silence lingered, thick with unspoken words and eyes that felt like they were scanning every inch of you. You could feel their weight on your back, like a thousand invisible hands pushing you deeper into your seat, forcing you to stay in this uncomfortable moment.
You could already feel the heat rising in your chest, but you bit your lip, forcing yourself to take a deep breath. You weren’t going to lose your cool—not yet.
Damian’s gaze was fixed on you, like he was waiting for some kind of reaction, his lips pressed into a thin line. You knew what he was expecting: compliance. Submission. He expected you to shrink back under his scrutiny. And yet, there was something oddly satisfying about not giving him that satisfaction.
Instead, you focused on the plate in front of you, stabbing your fork into the pancakes with far too much force. You were still hungry, but the food felt like cardboard in your mouth, tasteless and dry, even though Alfred’s cooking was always the best.
Bruce was still watching you, his eyes heavy with a kind of expectant patience, like he was just waiting for you to crack. You could feel the tension in the room like a ticking clock, the seconds stretching longer than you’d ever thought possible.
"Why are you all staring at me?" you finally muttered, breaking the silence, your voice low but biting. You didn't look up from your plate, but you could feel the eyes on you. They all thought they could break you. They thought you were some fragile little thing, someone they could fix with their pity and their "family time." But you weren’t. You’d stopped being that person a long time ago.
Dick was the first to speak, his voice softer than usual, like he was trying to tread lightly around you. “We’re just trying to connect, I know it’s been a long time, and things got… complicated, but we don’t want to lose you again. Not after all this time.”
His words weren’t as comforting as he probably thought they were. In fact, they made your skin crawl. He was trying to be kind, but it felt forced, like he was reading from a script. You didn’t need this. Not from him, not from any of them. You wanted them to stop pretending like they could fix everything with a few hugs, a couple of "we missed you"s.
“I didn’t ask for this,” you said quietly, your voice almost a whisper, but it carried a weight. “I didn’t ask to be here. And I didn’t ask to be part of this family anymore.”
Bruce’s jaw tightened at your words, but he didn’t say anything at first. You could feel the flicker of something in his expression—guilt, maybe. Regret. He was looking at you, like he was trying to see the person you used to be. The person you had been before everything fell apart.
You weren’t that person anymore. And he needed to understand that.
“You don’t get to decide that,” Damian suddenly said, his voice a little too sharp. “You can’t just shut us out like this. You’re still a part of this family. Whether you like it or not.”
Your eyes shot up to meet his. " I can shut you all out, I can do whatever I want” you snapped, the frustration leaking through. “You’ve done it to me for years.”
Dick’s brow furrowed, his lips pulling into a frown. For a second, he looked genuinely taken aback by your words, “You don’t understand,” he said, his tone quieter but still laced with an edge. “We didn’t abandon you. Not on purpose. You think we didn’t care? You just never seemed to need help.”
You could feel the sting of his words, but you pushed it down, locking it away. You weren’t going to break. Not for him. Not for any of them. Of course you never needed help, you were too busy trying to be perfect.
“I was just a kid,” you replied, your voice a little rawer, louder than you intended. “And I was ignored by the people who were supposed to be there for me. So fuck you and fuck your family time too.”
There was a long pause, everyone looked around in shock, not expecting you to be so combatant and then Jason finally spoke up, his tone softer than usual, less teasing. “We’re trying, okay? I'm trying. We’re not perfect, and I’m not asking you to just forget everything. But we want to try. Let us try.”
You shot him a look, your eyes narrowing. “Trying isn’t good enough,” you muttered, your voice tight. “Not when it’s years too late. I don't want scraps of love anymore, not when i've had the real deal.”
Everyone seemed to quiet at the last part of your statement, suspicious of what it meant and from who you received "love" from. What convinced you that you didn't need them anymore?
“Then what do you want?” Tim interjected, his voice suddenly sharper, more direct than before. “What do you want from us? We’re here, and we’re trying to make it right. But you’ve got to meet us halfway.”
You wanted to scream. You wanted to tell them that nothing would ever be good enough, that the damage was already done. But you didn’t. Instead, you just stared at Tim, meeting his eyes with a challenge of your own. You didn’t owe them answers. Not anymore.
“I don’t know,” you said finally, your voice quieter now, almost defeated. “I don’t know what I want.”
It was the truth. You didn’t know what you wanted. You didn’t know if there was anything they could do to fix things. But one thing was certain: you didn’t want to stay in this mansion, suffocated by their expectations. You didn’t want to play along with their idea of a happy family.
Before anyone could respond, you stood up abruptly, pushing your chair back with a loud scrape against the floor.
“Don’t worry about me,” you said, turning on your heel. “I’ll figure it out on my own. I always have.”
You heard Duke’s soft voice in the background, calling after you, but you didn’t stop. You just walked out of the dining room, your heart pounding in your chest as you made your way toward the staircase.
As you climbed the stairs, you could feel their eyes on your back, the weight of their presence pressing down on you, but you didn’t care anymore. You didn’t care if they watched. You didn’t care if they were disappointed. You just wanted to be alone.
That day, you stayed in bed. You ignored every knock on your door, every phone call, every beg and plead to come down and eat. You just wanted to be alone.
You woke up to the quiet hum of the manor, but it was far from peaceful. The silence was suffocating, a constant reminder that there was no escaping them—not now. You tried to pretend the night before hadn’t happened, that their constant attention wasn’t as overwhelming as it was, that you were going back to New York soon. Unfortunately, fantasies don't become realities, especially when reality is chasing them down.
Every one of them was here, waiting. Watching.
Bruce stood near the staircase, his presence larger than life. His eyes lingered on you as if he expected something. You weren’t sure what. Maybe gratitude, maybe obedience. He said nothing, just watched you with that expression of silent insistence.
“Good morning,” he said in that deep, calm voice of his, but there was something off about it. There was a layer of expectation beneath his words, like he was waiting for something from you.
You ignored him, brushing past him without a second glance. You didn’t want to engage, didn’t want to pretend like everything was okay. But it didn’t matter. They were all around you now, slowly closing in.
Tim was the next to corner you. You could feel his calculating eyes on you the moment you stepped into the kitchen. He had a cup of coffee in hand, but his focus was on you. Just you.
“Did you sleep well?” he asked, the question seemingly casual but the undertone too sharp, too analytical. It wasn’t just a question, it was a probe, a way for him to gauge how much control he had over you.
You rolled your eyes, reaching for the fridge to grab something that could distract you, something that could make the reality of this house feel a little less like a cage. But the moment your hand touched the door, he was there, standing far too close, watching you, almost breathing down your neck.
“You know,” Tim said, his voice low, “we can talk today. If you want. We need to keep your abilities in check, make sure you’re safe, protected. ” His tone lingered on that last word, like he was reminding you that you were under his watch now.
You hated how calmly he said it. It made your skin crawl.
Steph was next, adding onto what Tim said with her stupid signature smile, "He's right y'know. It's dangerous out there. For you especially."
You ignored them both. Payback for their years of negligence.
Tim just stood there for a moment, his eyes scanning your face. “Fine, be like that,” he muttered, before walking away, but you knew he wasn’t done. He never was.
And then there was Dick. His usual cheerful demeanor didn’t falter as he breezed into the room, but it was too cheerful, too bright. He was pushing something, forcing something, like he was trying to manufacture happiness out of thin air, trying to remind you of who you were, who you used to be.
“Hey! How about we do something today?” he said, his voice far too eager. “We could go out and grab coffee, breakfast, anything. I know you’re probably not feeling it, but you need to get out of this house for a bit.”
You wanted tear him apart for thinking you could just “forget” everything and fall back into some comfortable, happy routine. But you didn’t. Instead, you just nodded stiffly, walking past him without acknowledging his words.
“Come on,” he tried again, following you, “It’ll be fun, I promise.”
“Just drop it, Dick,” you said, your voice like ice. “I’m not going anywhere. Ya'll made that pretty clear.”
His face faltered for just a moment before he plastered that damn grin back on. But you saw it, the frustration and determination behind his eyes. He wasn’t going to stop. None of them were.
Jason leaned against the kitchen counter, arms crossed, watching the scene unfold with a smirk you couldn’t quite decipher. “Ah, the princess finally comes out her tower,” he teased. “What? Got tired of throwing shit around in there?"
You narrowed your eyes, feeling the heat in your chest rise. Jason always had a way of pissing you off with his words, making everything seem like a joke, but you knew there was something darker underneath. He wanted to get a rise out of you, he craved it. He wanted you to go back to being his annoying little sister with anger issues.
“Shut up, Jason,” you muttered, turning away from him, not caring that you weren’t hiding your anger anymore. “I’m not in the mood for your bullshit today.”
Jason just laughed, but there was a hint of something softer there, something that felt almost... like concern, buried beneath the sarcasm.
“Stop,” you snapped, but before you could escape, Damian stepped in.
Damian was the most direct, the most unforgiving in his attempts to bond. He stepped into your path without hesitation, his posture rigid and eyes narrowed, as if daring you to push him away.
“You don’t get it, do you?” he said, his voice low, yet intense. “You think you’re some rebellious teenager trying to escape, but you’re not. You don’t get a choice in this.” His words weren’t harsh, they were final, like he had already decided your fate. And you were staying here, whether you liked it or not.
“You’re wrong,” you spat, your voice venomous. "I don’t need you.”
Damian tilted his head slightly, an unsettling calm settling over him. “You’ll need us eventually. Whether you want to or not. And you'll be grateful we never let you go.”
Your heart pounded in your chest, but you didn’t let him see it. Not yet. His audacity was insane. To think that you'd be thankful for being trapped in Gotham. Never.
As you tried to walk past him, you collided with Cass, who was standing silently behind you, her eyes filled with that knowing, unspoken concern. She's so creepy. She didn’t say a word but you could feel her presence, like a weight pressing down on you.
Cass placed a hand gently on your arm, her touch barely more than a whisper, but it was enough to make you freeze.
Why are they acting like this? What changed these two weeks?
"You’re safe here," she said quietly, her words cutting through the tension in a way that made your skin crawl. It wasn’t a suggestion, it was a command.
You pulled away sharply, nearly punching her, your fists clenched at your sides. “I'm not happy.” you said, more to yourself than to her.
But she didn’t respond. Of course she didn’t. Her eyes just followed you, and that was worse than any words.
Barbara was close by, but she didn’t need to be loud. She never did. She had this way of talking in soft tones that made everything sound so reasonable. So loving.
“You don’t have to keep shutting us out,” she said gently. “You can talk to us. We just want to make sure you’re okay. All of us. We care about you.”
You felt the weight of her words crash down on you, suffocating you with their sweetness, with their hidden demands. Care. It was just another word for control, for keeping you locked in their world, locked in their gaze. If they cared, they would let you be happy in New York.
“Just stop,” you whispered, more to yourself than to her. “Just... stop.”
You sat in your room for hours again, ignoring everyone.
Bruce had spent the last few days carefully watching you, keeping his distance just enough to make you think you had some semblance of freedom, but now he was ready to step in, to claim his role as your father.
He had promised himself when you left for France, he would make it right. That he would make up for everything he had missed, for every moment he had abandoned you for the greater good of Gotham. But now, as the silence stretched between you two, he was determined to close that distance.
You had just returned to your room after another breakfast you didn’t want to be part of when you heard the knock.
It was Bruce.
“You’re not busy, are you?” he asked, his voice almost too warm, too hopeful.
You shot him a glance, wondering if he truly thought this would work. After everything that had happened, after all the times he had failed you, he still thought a few “father-daughter” moments could make things better.
"I guess not," you replied flatly, stepping aside to let him in, your mind already racing with how to get through whatever this was going to be.
The moment he entered, Bruce seemed to settle, as though he had a plan in mind, one he was eager to execute.
“Good,” he said, looking around the room, his eyes scanning for something, maybe an opportunity. Then, he turned back to you, hands clasped behind his back. “I thought today, we could spend some time together. Just us. It’s been a while since we’ve done something like this, hasn’t it? School starts soon and you'll get busy, you won't have time for me anymore.”
He was trying to joke around.
School. More like prison. The more he mentioned school, the angrier you got. You'd never done something like this. He did it with all his other kids though, with Tiffany. As you thought of her, all ideas of being nice to Bruce, of trying to bond with your father, flew out the window.
The words felt like a slap, and you couldn’t keep the bite from your tone. “Is that what you think this is? Quality time? You really think we’re just gonna pick up where we left off? Think you can change the past with brunch?”
Bruce’s eyes softened for a moment, his expression cracking, but only slightly. The guilt was there, unmistakable, but it didn’t erase the unspoken expectation behind his words. His voice became more gentle, more insistent.
“I know it’s not easy,” he said, his voice steady but laced with something else—something almost pleading, though he would never admit it. “But I want to make this right. You deserve this. You deserve... me. We can go out, maybe catch a movie, grab lunch, talk, whatever you want. I just want to be with you. Like you always talked about.”
You didn’t respond immediately. For a moment, you just stood there, frozen, as the weight of his words crashed over you. It was nice watching him beg for once. You had always wanted this. Wanted him. Wanted him to be a father, to care for you like he did the others. But that was before you tasted freedom, before you tried love.
Now, the idea of spending time with him felt like a betrayal to everything you had tried to protect: your own independence, your own space, your freedom. You didn’t want to be a part of his perfect little family anymore.
“No.” you muttered, unable to stop the anger from flooding your chest. “You really think that’s going to fix things? You think I just forgot what you did? Because i'm nice sometimes?”
Bruce didn’t flinch at your words, didn’t even show any sign of anger. Instead, he just stepped closer, his presence filling up the room, looming over you like an impenetrable wall. His tone remained patient, almost too controlled, like he was walking on eggshells.
“I know I can’t undo the past,” he said quietly, a trace of regret slipping through. “But I can be here for you now. I won’t make the same mistakes. I promise.”
A cold laugh escaped your lips. “You already have.”
You could feel your pulse quicken, the anger bubbling up inside you, but you pushed it back. You wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of seeing you break.
Bruce’s eyes softened even further, the guilt twisting in his expression, and for a moment, you saw something else there—desperation. As if he was begging you to let him in, to give him just one chance to prove he wasn’t the same person who had abandoned you for years.
“We could just sit and talk,” he said, his voice low and sincere. “No expectations. No agenda. Just us. I’m not trying to fix you or make everything perfect. I just want to spend time with my daughter.”
Something in you snapped at the mention of daughter. The word that had haunted you for years. The word that had felt like a lie every time he used it. You clenched your fists, struggling to keep your composure.
“No,” you said, your voice flat, cutting through the tension like a knife. “You don’t get it. I don’t want this anymore. I don't want you anymore.”
Bruce’s face faltered, just for a moment, before he recovered. But the hurt was there, tucked in the corners of his eyes. “I'm sorry. I hope you know that.”
You shook your head, not wanting to hear it anymore. The damage was done. He couldn’t erase it. No amount of “father-daughter time” was going to make you forget what it had been like when he wasn’t there for you.
“Stop,” you snapped, taking a step back. “Just stop. You don’t get to do this, Bruce. You don’t get to waltz in here and act like everything is fine. Like everything’s fixed. You’ve ruined it. All of it.”
Bruce opened his mouth, but no words came. You could see the conflict in his eyes, the struggle to understand where it had gone wrong.
“I’m just trying to make up for it,” he said quietly, but the sound of it made your stomach churn. The way his voice cracked slightly at the end of the sentence only made it worse.
And you hated yourself for feeling even a little guilty for saying no.
But no. You wouldn’t let him do this. Not again.
“I don’t want your apologies,” you spat, your tone sharp, venomous. “And I don’t want your ‘time.’ You don’t get to play the father now.”
Without waiting for a response, you turned on your heel and walked toward the door. You needed to escape. You needed space. You needed to breathe. You were leaving your own room to get away from him.
Bruce’s voice stopped you, and you felt the pull of his desperate plea in the back of your mind. His words clung to you, too heavy, too much. “I'll go, don't leave. This is your room. I just want you to know I’m here. I’ll always be here.”
You watched your father walk away, and only after he left did you fall to your bed and cry.
The next days before school were a blur. You spent them locked in your room, alternating between crying on the phone with Ariel, avoiding the family when you went down to sneak food to your room, trying to butter up Bruce and convince him to let you go back to boarding school, and online shopping.
Yet somehow Monday morning you were up at 5:30 getting into the shower.
The thought of returning to Gotham Prep made your stomach churn. How could you go back to a place where you had no true friends? A school where you’d been bullied by half your grade. Where Tim pretended you didn’t exist, Damian and Tiffany ridiculed you in front of everyone, and Duke ignored you like you were invisible. Where you ate lunch in the bathroom, alone and cried in the janitor's closet like a loser.
But you weren't the same girl who walked through those halls last year. No, this year was going to be different. You were different.
Last night, as you scrolled through Tik Tok, a new idea formed in your mind. You’d had enough of being invisible. It was time for a change.
You had a plan.
You found the bleach blonde hair dye in your bathroom, hidden away in the back of a drawer. You didn’t need permission, and you certainly didn’t need anyone to hold your hand.
By the time the dye had set and you’d rinsed it out, you felt like a new person. It was the kind of hair that would make people stop and stare.
You woke at 5:30 and hopped in the shower, you wanted to take your time getting ready. You plugged in your pink dyson and curled your new blonde hair, it would fall into a blow out later in the day, complaining about your family to Ariel and Claire. You spent the next two hours getting ready, perfecting your makeup. You’d learned to contour, learned to do your eyeliner just right, and became a bronzer girl over the summer. You grabbed your favorite Chanel palette and messily applied dark eyeshadow in smoky charcoal, blending seamlessly into the crease of your eyes and eyeliner. You smudged on a bold dark burgundy lipshine that drew attention. You weren’t trying to be anyone but yourself, your new self.
Then came the clothes.
You'd already shortened your Gotham Prep skirt by more than a few inches. It was below your knees and now it showed off the thighs you spent all summer tanning. You wanted to make a statement, and if they didn’t like it, that was their problem. The white blouse, originally oversized, was now form-fitting, you wanted it to give that one Bella Hadid picture. You left the top buttons undone, the tie hanging loosely around your neck in a deliberate, I-don’t-care gesture. You could feel the fabric clinging to your skin, reminding you of how much control you were regaining. You looked like the kind of girls you used to call whores last year.
You looked through your drawers for your signature jewelry you collected over the summer and during school. Big gold hoops on your ears, studs in all your other ear piercings, a tiffany heart necklace that rested on your exposed collar bone, and multiple bracelets stacked on each arm, jingling as you moved.
As you stood in front of the mirror, you smiled. You looked good.
Lastly you grabbed your Isabel Marant sneakers, chic and effortless, and slipped them on. They were expensive, but it wasn’t about the price—it was about the look. The vibe. Then, more than few spritzes of perfume. Something sharp, and not too sweet. You wanted to make a lasting impression, to turn heads as you walked.
By the time you were done, you felt invincible. The girl staring back at you was someone who didn’t care what anyone thought. You weren’t going to be bullied anymore. You were going to be the one who dictated the terms.
You walked out of your room, head held high, your heart pounding with anticipation.
Downstairs, the Batfamily was gathered at the breakfast table, doing their usual routine. They all stopped talking the second they saw you.
You’d barely stepped into the room when the heavy silence fell over the table. Bruce looked up, his expression instantly darkening. His lips pressed together in a thin line, his gaze flicking over your appearance.
“Is this what you're wearing?” His voice was tight, a hint of disapproval slipping into the words.
You gave him a look that said everything. “Is something wrong? I thought it was cute.” Your tone was soft, teasing, but with a bite underneath. You weren’t asking for his permission. You were daring him to say something.
Tim, who had been looking at his phone, blinked up at you with wide eyes. He’d been so engrossed in whatever he was reading that he didn’t even seem to know how to respond. His fingers hovered over his screen, unsure whether or not to comment.
“Are you seriously going to school looking like that?” His voice was tight, an edge of surprise and confusion beneath it.
You crossed your arms, leaning back in the doorway. “What? You don’t like it? Your friends might.” You knew how to unsettle him. That much you were sure of. You wanted to push his buttons, make him paranoid.
Dick was the next to react. He put down his coffee, glancing over at Bruce before looking back at you. “I get that you’re, you know, trying something new,” he began carefully, but the unease in his voice was clear. He was trying to be supportive, trying to understand, but it didn’t take much to see how disapproving he felt. “But—”
“But what, Dick?” you interrupted with a sudden change of attitude. “You don’t like it? That’s a shame. It's so crazy I literally never asked.”
His mouth opened, but no words came out. He simply shifted in his seat, uncomfortable.
Jason snorted, clearly not impressed. “You trying to turn heads or get yourself in trouble? Skirt's too short, change that shit.” His voice was low, but it had a sharpness to it now. His gaze scanned you from head to toe, his mouth curving into an almost imperceptible frown.
You weren’t fazed by his dismissive and angry attitude. If anything, it made you want to lean into it more. “I'm not changing, you want alonger skirt? You go put one on and come talk.” You shrugged nonchalantly, your tone saccharine sweet. "And I don't want trouble, but i don't mind it."
“Yeah, I can tell,” Jason drawled, eyeing the large hoops dangling from your ears. “Nice hoops. Real classy.” His lips twitched, mocking the exaggerated size of them. "I didn’t realize big was your thing now."
You smirked, reaching up to tug at one of the hoops, the gesture playful, but intending to piss him off. “Big boys like big things, Jason,” you replied smoothly, without missing a beat. “And you know what they say, the bigger the hoop, the bigger the....” You were quickly cut off before you could finish talking and ruining everyone's apittite.
Damian, ever the hater, set down his cereal with a dramatic flare, slamming it down and glared at you. “You look like you belong in a cheap nightclub, not Gotham Prep. Should we drop you off on the nearest corner?” His words were sharp, cutting—typical Damian, though you could hear the pure anger in his voice.
You chuckled softly, not phased in the slightest. You'd rather be at a cheap nightclub honestly. “I’m just bringing a little fun to Gotham, Damian. You should try it sometime, maybe then you wouldn't be so hateful all the time." Your tone was uninterested, like his insults weren't even worth your time.
Steph and Cass exchanged a look, both clearly unsure of how to react. Cass, as always, seemed more interested in watching you than engaging, while Steph’s gaze flickered between you and the rest of the family. Barbra was just staring at you in disbelief.
“Is it really that bad?” Steph finally asked, though her voice wasn’t quite as gentle as it could have been. There was a nervous edge to it. “I mean, you’re, uh, pulling it off…” She trailed off, clearly unsure how to proceed.
You ignored her, who cares what she thinks? Her and the rest of them are irrelevant. If you like it then so what. Her comment did make your lips twitch into a smile subconsciously though.
Alfred, who’d been quietly observing the exchange, cleared his throat before standing. “Miss, I must say, it’s a rather bold change. But perhaps not one that will be received well by the staff and teachers.” His words were polite, but you could hear the disapproval in the undertones.
You gave him a bright smile, not at all sorry. “I’ll take my chances, Alfred. Don’t worry. I’ll be fine. I've played this game before.”
Bruce, who had been seething quietly, finally stood up from the table. His usual calm demeanor was replaced with a tense frustration. “Go change. Now.”
You raised an eyebrow, your lips curving into a slow, deliberate smile. “Make me.”
There was a flicker of surprise in his eyes, then something else, something more. He clenched his fists for a moment, clearly fighting to maintain control. But you weren’t backing down. Not this time.
“I’m not going to let you walk out of here like that,” Bruce snapped.
You didn’t miss a beat. “You won't let me do anything. I go to school like this or I don't go at all. And since when do you care?” You crossed your arms and stuck your foot out, pouting like a child, staring him down waiting for him to surrender.
Bruce hesitated for a moment, his expression softening ever slightly. “Fine. But you’re pushing it. You're not going like this tomorrow.”
Bruce 0, You 1.
Jason, who had been watching the exchange with interest, chuckled. “You really know how to work him, don’t you?”
You flashed a smile at him, leaning back in your chair as you stood up and grabbed your bag, ready to leave the room. “Come on, let’s get out of here. We're already late. Jason, you driving?” Jason was the most fun, and he wasn't as nosy as Dick or Barbra.
Jason raised an eyebrow. “Yeah, I’m driving us all today. Come on, let’s go before Dad starts pulling rank.”
With a dramatic sigh, Bruce reluctantly agreed, shooting a last, disapproving look at your outfit before turning toward the door.
The engine of Jason’s car hummed steadily, but the air inside was anything but calm. You had decided to make this ride your moment. If you were uncomfy, you'd make them all feel the same. The others in the car—Damian, Tim, and Duke—were bracing themselves for your usual attitude, though this time you could tell there was a noticeable edge to the tension.
Jason, who was driving, was trying his best to keep his eyes on the road, but you knew he was glaring at you through the rearview mirror. Damian was next to you in the backseat, arms crossed and eyes narrowed, like he was ready to throw down at any second. Tim sat on the other side, buried in his homework, something to do with Gotham Prep’s ever-pressing academic requirements. Nerd.
And Duke? Duke was the least bothered, but you were sure he was mentally rolling his eyes at you the moment you stepped into the car.
You were far too busy with your phone, flipping through TikTok videos and checking your DMs, but every so often, you’d glance at the boys just to see their reactions.
“So…” You leaned forward a little, propping your elbow on the middle console. Your voice was light, casual, but you could feel the energy shift around you. You knew this would get under Jason’s skin. “You think any of the boys at Gotham Prep will notice my glow up? ”
You heard a long, heavy sigh from the driver’s seat before Jason muttered, “She's in that phase huh,"
But you weren’t listening. You were too busy smirking at Tim, who barely looked up from his book. You could feel his eyes narrow, probably out of sheer annoyance. “I mean, it’s inevitable, right?” you continued. “I'm 16 now, I'm better looking. Is there any fresh meat since I left? Anyone interesting, new friends maybe??"
Jason was silent for a moment, but you could see the grip on the steering wheel tightening in his peripheral. He wasn’t going to let you get away with this.
"Listen," Jason said, his voice calm but with that sharp edge he always used when he was trying not to lose his temper. "I don’t want to hear about boys, okay? Not today, not ever."
You blinked dramatically, as if you were the one being attacked. “Oh, come on, Jason, don’t be such a buzzkill. I’m not doing anything. I just wanna know if anyone’s looking.” You reached forward and pressed the button to connect your phone to the car’s Bluetooth, your nails clicking loudly across the screen as you searched for the perfect song to add to the atmosphere.
You knew you were getting to him. Jason was always so serious when it came to boys, always so guarded, especially when it came to you. It was fun getting under his skin. He glanced over his shoulder at you, but you were already half-distracted by your phone.
“Relax, Jase,” you shot back, ignoring his glare. “I’m not doing anything wrong. I’m just curious. It’s just—boys.”
You needed something to stop the ache that came with your new powers.
“Don’t make me pull this car over,” Jason threatened, his eyes flicking to the rearview mirror again.
You laughed softly, loving how easily you could provoke him. You leaned back in your seat, stretching out your legs, and noticed Damian watching you like he was deciding whether to strangle you with his own scarf.
“Damian, you’re so serious,” you sigh, you'd been ignoring him lately but you forgot how easy he is to provoke. “You know, you should loosen up. Boys are fun to look at, and to—” You cut yourself off before you could finish the sentence, letting the tension simmer.
Damian’s face twisted in that way he did when he was trying to pretend you didn’t bother him. “I don’t care what you do with boys,” he muttered. “But if you think I’m going to sit in this car while you talk about them like you’re some kind of—”
“Oh, no,” you interrupted with a teasing smile, “Not some kind of what? Some kind of what?” You stretched your legs a little further, drawing more attention to the hem of your skirt as you adjusted yourself in your seat. Making it even shorter now that Bruce wasn't here. You felt the eyes of your brothers boring into you, especially Jason's. “Honestly, Damian, lighten up. If you stopped being such a little grumpy loser all the time, you’d get more attention from girls. You have my looks y'know. ”
Tim, who had been pretending to focus on his homework this whole time, finally looked up from his papers with an exasperated sigh. “Can you not?” he asked, voice strained. “We’ve got school in twenty minutes. We don’t need a whole lecture about boys in the car.”
“Hey, no need to be so dramatic, Tim,” you said, turning your attention to your phone. You found your favorite song, the one that was guaranteed to annoy everyone in the car. “I’m just having fun. It’s not like I’m gonna do anything crazy. I just wanna know who’s gonna be there today."
You were making them all uncomfortable, and you loved it. You could already see Damian’s jaw tightening in the rearview mirror and Jason’s knuckles whitening around the steering wheel. Tim was staring at you like you were a whole new level of annoying. Even Duke rolled his eyes.
But that wasn’t enough. You needed them to be seething.
“I’m telling you right now,” Jason warned, his voice dead serious, “no boys today. No messing around. You’re going to class, and you’re staying focused. I'll check your phone if I have to. Got it?”
You put on your best innocent face, looking up from your phone as if you hadn’t just been causing a small riot in the car. “Okay, okay, Jason. No boys. I'm more into men anyway.”
Damian scoffed again, muttering something about how “pathetic” it was. You just grinned and rolled your eyes.
“Hey, you’re just jealous because girls don’t look at you,” you said, winking at him. “Maybe if you weren’t such a pain in the ass, you’d get noticed more.”
Duke, who had been quietly observing the entire conversation, finally spoke up from the backseat, his tone easygoing but with a hint of amusement. “You got any tips for me? Am I chopped liver”
You rolled your eyes at him, still not over his betrayal. “Glad you’re entertained, Duke. I don't think even I could help you.”
As you said that, you grabbed the aux cord and plugged it into your phone without asking.
Jason let out a sharp sigh, but you just grinned. “I’ve got it from here,” you said as you clicked on Drake’s Hotline Bling. The song blasted as you maxed out the volume. Damian looked like he was about to combust.
“You really are a pain in the ass, aren’t you?” Tim muttered under his breath, trying to focus on his schoolwork again.
You grinned. “I like to think of myself as entertaining.”
Duke nodded his head to the beat, tapping on his phone and Jason’s eyes darted to the rearview mirror, but you could see the playfulness in his face. He was trying not to smile, despite himself.
“I’m just saying, no boys today, no skipping, no trouble” Jason reiterated, trying to keep a semblance of control. “And if I hear anything about you messing around, we’re going back home, got it?”
You leaned back in your seat and stretched again. “Sure, sure, no boys. But just so you know, if i get into "trouble" it’s not my fault.”
Jason didn’t respond.
When you finally arrived at Gotham Prep you sighed, grabbed your bag, straightened out your skirt one last time, and nearly ran away from them so you didn't have to walk in with Duke, Damian, and Tim. “See you later, losers,” you said with a grin, pulling your sunglasses on as you walked away from the car.
Gotham Prep didn't know what's coming.

Stuck in the Middle
pairing: Bucky Barnes x avenger!reader
warnings: angst, language, reader is a bit mean to Bucky but it’s deserved
notes: so i saw the thunderbolts* trailer and immediately scrambled for my phone to write this. hoping to write some more bucky/mcu related pieces so lmk if you have any ideas !
summary: you come home from work to find the last person on earth you want to see cooking dinner in your kitchen
Tumblr media
You can sense the shift in the air the moment you step foot through the front door. Lamps that you know for a fact had been turned off before you left now glow warmly throughout your apartment as you cautiously set your gym bag down in exchange for the bat you keep strategically placed against the doorframe. Your knuckles turn white with tension as you grip the handle, rolling your shoulders back and cracking out your neck before silently treading towards the kitchen.
You live alone, so there’s no reason for the sound of pots clanging together or the smell of homemade cooking to be invading your senses after coming home from your mundane job as a pilates instructor. Despite this, there is not an ounce of fear within you as approach the intruder; in fact, you welcome a little action in your life, no matter how inconvenient it may be. Your training under Natasha’s watchful eye is paying off now as you creep into the room undetected, weapon raised at the ready and focus dialed in on the stranger as you raise the bat and swing it forward with all of your strength.
An arm immediately shoots forward and stops your assault with ease, the abrupt movement causing you to lose your footing and stumble forward. Heart pounding in your chest, your eyes widen as you take in the sight of the familiar metallic fingers clutching the bat with unrelenting force. You’re at a loss for words as you trail your gaze along the prosthetic arm and up to the face of its owner. His features are solemn and his eyes dull of the light you once remembered, but his faint smile is still the same as he finally relinquishes his hold and watches you stagger forward.
“You’ve lost your edge,” he comments jestingly before turning back to the meal he’d been meticulously preparing in your absence as if he hadn’t broken his way into your home. “Hungry?”
“What… the hell are you doing here?” You breathe out in aggravation, shoulders rising and falling rapidly with the ragged breaths you take. Your body feels as if it’s on overdrive as you try to process the fact that Bucky is standing before you in your apartment, uninvited if you might add, after having not been a part of your life for a good three years. Your stomach is in knots, hands perspiring, heart fighting to escape your ribcage, eyes struggling to hold back tears of relief and frustration, and mind trying to decide whether this unannounced visit is unwelcome or appreciated.
“Making us dinner,” Bucky offers as if it should be obvious, as if the last time he cooked for you hadn’t been ages ago. “Don’t worry, I’ll clean up after myself.”
“You broke into my apartment and you think my main concern is about whether or not you wash the dishes?!” You retort in exasperation.
“It’s not breaking in if I have a key,” he argues defensively while plating your meals.
“A key you were supposed to give back after we broke up!”
A heavy silence follows your words as Bucky finally stills. Hands planted firmly against the counter, he lets his head hang with a defeated sigh before finally turning to face you.
“You’re right” he relents with a wry smile, “I know I’m not welcome here, and I shouldn’t have ambushed you like this, but I knew if I called you wouldn’t have answered.”
“And whose fault is that?” You murmur bitterly much to his dismay. You don’t miss the look of hurt that flashes across his features, but there isn’t a single part of you that feels guilty about it. Not after all the hurt he’s caused you in his absence.
“Look,” Bucky starts carefully, hands raised in surrender as he approaches you. His mannerisms are similar to that of a hunter approaching a wild animal, but can you blame him with the way you’re still gripping the bat like your life depends on it. “I know you don’t owe me anything, and the last thing I deserve is your forgiveness, but I need you to hear what I have to say.”
Though you know it’s against your better judgement, and though every part of your conscious is screaming at you to throw him out of your apartment for good, you find yourself slowly lowering the bat until it falls to the floor with a deafening thud.
“You get five minutes.”
And that’s how you end up seated across your ex-boyfriend at the dinner table enjoying a plate of garlic basted steak and pasta while you look over the different files spread out before you.
“US Agent, Red Guardian, Yelena Bolova…” you quietly read aloud, gaze faltering on the familiar photograph. There’s no mistaking that face, not after the millions of times you’d stared at this exact file and wondered whether there was any semblance left of the girl Natasha had so often described to you. “Interesting bunch you’ve got here. Not sure why you’d break into my apartment just to show me these though.”
“I assume you’ve been watching the news lately, seen what’s going on out there,” Bucky counters, arms crossed as he pensively leans back in his chair.
“I’m familiar with the Void,” you hum quietly, and Bucky doesn’t miss the way you uncomfortably begin to shift in your seat. “It’s awful what’s going on out there.”
“It is, and there’s no one to stop it,” he utters carefully, prompting you to look up from the files.
“Please tell me you’re not about to say what I think you are.”
“I know they’re far from the best options of heroes out there, but they’re all we’ve got. The Avengers are nowhere to be found-“
“I’m an Avenger,” you bite back defensively.
“An Avenger who spends her time teaching pilates classes,” Bucky corrects humorlessly, and it takes everything in you to not lung across the table in retaliation at his demeaning comment.
“Banner said to lay low,” you remind him through gritted teeth, “and we both agreed to that before you decided to leave me with only some half assed note explaining your abandonment.”
“Y/n/n,” Bucky sighs in frustration, but you’re adamant that he’s not about to get a single word in until you’re done.
“You can make whatever comments you want about my life, about what I’ve chosen for myself, but you don’t get to make me feel small for choosing normalcy over the bullshit I’ve been through. The people I love are either dead or scattered across the globe, and I’m on my own now, so I get to choose what’s best for me.”
“Even if it means leaving the rest of the world to fend for itself?” He counters in disbelief.
“The world is ungrateful, they don’t appreciate what we do. They took Tony and Nat’s sacrifices in vain. Why would I put myself through torture for people who think that after everything that happened, everything we lost, Thanos was right?”
As Bucky sits across from you and stares you down, he realizes now that the woman before him is no longer the same woman he’d left three years ago. Whatever had occurred in his absence had changed you, and you were no longer willing to fight for others like you once had done so fiercely before. You had hardened, and his chest tightened with the realization that the girl who once wore her heart on her sleeve had now locked it away and gotten rid of the key.
“Y/n, I came to you tonight because I know I can’t do this on my own,” he admits solemnly, metal arm whirring quietly as he clenches and unclenches his hands in his lap. “If you say no to this, then there’s no point in rounding up these guys and attempting to form some sort of mediocre team of heroes. They’re not heroes, I’m not, but you are. Even if you don’t feel that way right now.”
Another heavy silence drowns the room as you contemplatively chew the inside of your cheek. Your gaze has landed back on Yelena’s file, but your mind can’t help to drift over to the thought of her sister. Natasha had always believed in you, supported you, trained you under her wing, and helped pushed you forward even when you felt like you couldn’t go on anymore. Your inaction would be a dishonor to her memory whether you wanted to admit it or not, and despite how much resentment you held for the man before you, you knew that whatever personal qualms you had did not hold more importance over the fate of humanity.
You knew the choice you needed to make, and you didn’t like it one bit.
“If I help you get this team together and stop the Void, will you let me return back to my own life?” You prompt hesitantly, and you hate the way your heart flutters at the soft quirk of his lips in response to your question.
“If you help me pull this off, you can have whatever you want,” he promises earnestly before apprehensively reaching across the table towards you. He tests the waters by placing his hand atop of yours, and when you don’t pull away he takes hold of your hand in his own and gives it a comforting squeeze.
“I really hate you,” you confess with a defeated sigh, but there is no trace of malice in your tone. In fact, you return his affectionate gesture by squeezing his hand back and offering him the first smile you’ve had since his arrival.
“I know,” Bucky says tenderly before lifting your hand and pressing a kiss to your knuckles. Heat crawls up your neck at the act, and you have to look away to prevent him from seeing the smile that fights to play itself along your lips. You’d be lying if you said you weren’t happy to be with Bucky again, and a part of you appreciated that it almost felt like old times, but you also knew that it wasn’t going to be this easy. You’re still angry at him for leaving you heartbroken and without so much as a goodbye, and Bucky himself is well aware of the fact that it’s going to take a lot more than dinner and pleasantries to get you back.
But this is a start, and you’re both ready to throw yourselves into the lion’s den if it means mending a broken past alongside the person you love.

(work song next WHHAT WHO SAID THAT)
so full of love (i could barely eat) 🍒 seungcheol x reader.
Tumblr media
★ established relationship, pet name ['baby'], inspired by hozier's work song. viv, i know this was supposed to be in response to worship in the bedroom (and not really a serious request), but the thought of cheol x work song did not let me go. a little gift for u. <3 word count: 755.
Tumblr media
It’s nearly two in the morning when Seungcheol gets home.
One of those days, he likes to call it. He had been out of the apartment before the sun rose up, had jumped from one schedule to another with something akin to reckless abandon. Fan meet. Radio show. Practice. Meeting.
When he’s busy, the exhaustion is kept at bay. There’s no time to think about the phantom ache behind his knee, the pesky soreness of his thigh.
But then he walks through the front door and it all comes crashing down on him. Suddenly, he is Atlas, bearing the heavens on his shoulders.
He toes off his shoes with a soft sigh. Evidence of you is apparent from the entryway. The kitchen light has been left on. The humidifier is spewing one of his favorite scents. A collection of sweet nothings, none of which he thinks he deserves.
Had he even texted you today? Seungcheol isn’t certain. He remembers seeing your texts light up his screen, though. Gentle reminders from morning to evening.
Don’t forget your vitamins.
Grab lunch.
Bundle up. It’s snowing, and your bones are weak to the cold.
Seungcheol had listened at each turn, whether or not he realized it. A multivitamin from Seungkwan. A sandwich hurriedly eaten on the way to the studio. The scarf you had given him, the one that still faintly smelled like you.
He knows there’s probably food waiting for him in the microwave, knows you’ve likely set aside a plate in anticipation of his late arrival. Seungcheol bypasses it in favor of heading for your shared bedroom.
Sure enough, you’re already asleep. He’ll realize a little later that you texted about that, too— a message of might be asleep when you get home, I love you— but for now, he only lingers by the doorway as he watches the gentle rise and fall of your chest.
He feels everything then. The gnaw of guilt. The overwhelming affection. The urge to protect and provide.
As quietly as he can manage, Seungcheol crosses the room. He can already predict how you’re going to react to him sinking into bed and sliding underneath the covers with you.
You stir in your sleep at the feeling of Seungcheol snaking his arm around your waist. Despite being half-awake, you have the wits to mumble, “You’re still wearing outside clothes.”
Bingo.
Seungcheol knew it, and the thought of that— of correctly predicting what you might do or say— fills him with an odd sense of pride. He doesn’t give voice to it, though, not wanting to rouse you more than he already has.
“I’ll change.” His voice is a murmur even though there’s no other soul in the apartment besides you two. Something about the early hour and the low light makes him feel like he should tread carefully, like the moment is as fragile as ice on a lake. “Just wanted to hold you for a bit, baby.”
You grumble something incoherent, the words lost to the way you bury your face into the front of Seungcheol’s shirt. And suddenly Seungcheol can’t help himself. He presses a kiss to the top of your head. Then one to your forehead. Then one to your temple. Then—
“Cheol.” You whine out his name, your tone edged with exhaustion. You never did take kindly to your sleep being interrupted.
“Sorry, sorry,” he huffs.
He kisses the tip of your nose for good measure.
It’s one of those days. Seungcheol is bone-tired, and home late, and he missed you. If he were a stronger man, a better man, he’d let you sleep. Stalk off to eat his microwaved dinner and change into his pajamas so you don’t gripe about dirty sheets in the morning.
Seungcheol decides: He’s not a good man. And so instead he holds you a little tighter, leaves a couple more kisses across your face, allows his body to let go of the day’s weight.
After his nth kiss to your face, you let out another low grumble. He’s about to apologize, about to tell you that he’ll finally, finally let off, when you tilt your head up to lazily slot your lips against his. You’re barely coherent, and yet you’re still giving him exactly what he wants needs.
Soft, sleepy, sweet. His, his, his.
Seungcheol’s eyes flutter close. He makes no move to deepen the kiss, to ask for more than what you can offer.
In your arms, he feels a little less like Atlas.
In your arms, he’s just Seungcheol.

Cramps, Chaos, and Cuddles - Pedro Pascal.
Tumblr media
Pedro knew something was off the moment he stepped into the apartment. The energy in the air was different—dense, almost vibrating with an unseen force. And then he saw you, curled up on the couch, arms crossed, eyes narrowed at the TV as if it had personally offended you.
Oh. It was one of those days.
He treaded carefully, removing his shoes and placing his keys down with the gentleness of a surgeon handling a heart transplant. "Hey, baby."
You barely spared him a glance. "Hi."
Yep. Definitely one of those days.
Pedro tilted his head, observing you like a detective at a crime scene. "How bad is it? On a scale of 'mildly irritated' to 'burning the world down'?"
Your glare snapped to him. "Shut up."
He raised his hands in surrender, fighting the amused smirk threatening to break through. "Okay. Just gathering data."
He walked toward the couch and—mistake number one—tried to sit next to you.
"No. Absolutely not."
Pedro froze mid-squat. "No?"
"I don’t want you near me right now."
"Ouch." He clutched his chest dramatically. "You wound me, baby."
You shot him a deadpan look. "I’m serious. I feel like shit. I hate everything and everyone. Including you."
He gasped. "Me? What did I do?"
"Exist."
Pedro bit his lip to keep from laughing. "Okay, fair. Can I do anything to help?"
You let out a frustrated sigh, rubbing your temple. "I already took medicine, but my cramps still suck. My head hurts. The light is too bright. The air is too air-y. Everything is annoying."
He nodded solemnly. "Sounds rough. Allow me to fix what I can."
First, he dimmed the lights, plunging the room into a cozy, softer glow. Then, he disappeared into the kitchen and returned with a heating pad, placing it gently against your stomach without a word. You grumbled but adjusted it until it sat just right.
He wasn't done.
Pedro vanished again and returned with a glass of water and a small plate of chocolate. He set them on the coffee table before kneeling beside you, resting his chin on the cushion near your arm.
"Now, can I give my baby some love?" he asked, pouting like a kicked puppy.
You glared at him for a few long seconds, trying—really trying—to hold onto your irritation. But those big brown eyes, the way he practically radiated warmth and patience… it was unfair.
Your resolve cracked.
"Fine. But only because you tried really hard."
He grinned triumphantly, sliding onto the couch beside you. "I’ll take it."
Pedro pulled you gently into his arms, letting you rest against his chest. His hands moved in slow, soothing circles against your back, and the heat from his body combined with the heating pad made you melt just a little.
"See? Isn’t this better?" he murmured, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead.
You hummed, neither confirming nor denying. His fingers traced lazy patterns along your arm, and the steady rise and fall of his breathing was enough to lull you into a half-doze.
Then, just as you were fully relaxing, he pressed a dramatic, exaggerated kiss against your cheek with a loud "Mwah!"
You groaned. "Pedro."
Another kiss, this time to your jaw. "What?"
"Stop."
He kissed your temple. "But I love you."
A sigh. "I know."
"And you love me."
"I tolerate you."
He gasped again, clutching his chest. "So cruel. And here I am, taking care of you like a devoted boyfriend—"
"Pedro."
"Yes, baby?"
You finally turned to face him properly, your arms wrapping around his waist as you burrowed into his warmth. "Shut up and keep cuddling me."
He smiled against your hair. "Yes, ma'am."
And with that, he held you closer, peppering your face with softer, gentler kisses, whispering sweet nothings until all the tension melted away. Because no matter how grumpy, irritated, or downright impossible you felt—Pedro would always be there, ready to love you through it all.

ok i know im a little late for valentines day but this made me think of rodimus and wanted to share with the class
Yeah, that’s pretty much Roddy…
18+ mass displaced mech
Tumblr media
Attractive Today Scenario
Rodimus x Reader
• Oh. He's in a mood. Hadn't even really known hot metal had a smell, but you can smell his plating heating as he stares at the datapad in his hands. Can't understand the alien glyphs on the screen, but you see the screen glitch and start to warp. Beginning to melt before he's slinging it like a frisbee to shatter against the wall, dropping his head into his hands as a corona of flame kindles along his servos. Have seen enough of his tantrums to know that whatever that was, it was likely from Ultra Magnus or Megatron and it's pissed him off. "Everything okay?" You ask and he flinches guiltily like he'd forgotten you were on his desk, before shoving back so suddenly he knocks his chair over and nearly goes down with it in his haste to put some space between the two of you.
• Servos trembling, he backs away until he hits the wall and slides down to sit in the floor. Trying to get himself under control, because his temper and his outlier ability is more than just an inconvenience right now. To you, it's deadly. Venting raggedly, he draws his knees up to his body. "Talk to me. Just... I need something to focus on," he manages. Something to distract him from the anger until he gets himself back together. "Please." Primus, don't let him lose it and torch the whole habsuite. Not with you here. Please, anything but that. And now anxiety is twisting through him to mingle with the anger, fueling the chaos in him.
• Moving to the edge of the desk, you sit with your legs dangling. Inhaling shakily, because if both of you start panicking, it's over. "Hey, look at me. Roddy, you're not going to hurt me." Those blue optics are frightened, flames dancing along his plating, his helm. The temperature in the habsuite climbing as you start to sweat. "You never hurt me." Need to distract him. Get him fully focused on you, not his emotions. "Remember? Our first time? You were so freaked out that you were going to lose control." Those optics are locked with your eyes. His plating had been so warm under you when you'd taken the lead. "I kissed you, remember?"
• Shuddering, he focuses on the sound of your voice coaxing him. You'd calmed him that time, too. "Was afraid I'd hurt you," he manages. Had been too needy and that could be as dangerous as anger. You'd been straddling him when you'd caught one of his hands and laid it against your side, encouraging him to touch you. Remembers the feel of your soft hands cupping his face. Mouth warm against his. Fingers ghosting over his frame, tracing the patterns of his plating. "You told me I wouldn't break you." You'd been smiling down at him, planting those little hands on his chassis as you'd shifted on top of him. Rocking yourself against his spike before you'd taken him deep.
• "You didn't, did you?" Those flames are dying down, his plating no longer almost glowing. Calming. Coming back from that edge for you. "Remember, we stayed tangled together all night long. Talking." Face heating at the memory of him buried inside you, hips rocking as his mouth brushed your jaw. Whispering to each other, between rounds of lovemaking. Sharing stories and getting to know each other. "Why don't you come over here?" He's always so sure, always the one smiling and joking and untouched by everything else. Unable to be serious. That's the Rodimus he tries to maintain and show the world, but this Roddy is the one you know. Love. The one that's struggling and in over his head, desperately treading water just needing someone to reach out to him.

Omg are you into sentinel x reader? I've been imagining a scenario where reader is one of the cogless bot he decided to kept as a 'trophy wife' (but more like a pet) to boost up public opinion
spoilers!!! (Not direct spoilers, but just tread safely in case.)
Pookie I am into anything involving sentinel, (my favorite being sentinel x my fist and back shots) ANYWAYS THAT IS SUCH A GOOD IDEA have you seen the size difference between normal bots and the miners?????? Its so delicious. Jazz was half of orion's size and he's so small djddjdjjedkekejf can imagine miner reader on sentinel's lap herhgehehehheheh and he's holding their dainty waist.
He definitely doesn't see them as an equal but I think he does kind of see them a little bit higher on the list since theyre his pet, of course. Sentinel would be astounded at how they polish their plating, being ignorant and all.
"You don't wax?"
"No."
"Right, so not even a little?"
".... No?"
"Unbelievable."
Yeah, he's um a little out of touch. So, he takes it upon himself to 'take care of them' and 'fix them' in other words, haha lol I control what you do so it's best you shut up or I'll send you back to the mines. Or, possibly killed becuase have you seen the size of this guy????
He could just grab you by the neck and boom, broken like a twig.
He's enamored by the idea that he's good husband material and would flaunt you at interviews with ridiculous, made up stories about the two of you. About how he loves coming home and seeing his conjux, 'crying' about not seeing them often because he's got 'prime duties' as he puts it. Airachnid palys as his witness by staring off into space becuase it's all bullshit.
I would imagine he'd still allow them to work so that the miners get the idea that even the Prime's conjux is working at the mines!!! So why shouldn't they?
But the moment you come back he's snatching you up and throwing you into that bathtub like Pokemon go.
You're not an idiot. You know what he's doing and playing along is better than rotting in the mines. And, besides you always knew there was something off with the prime. Cue, reader having mini subplot of unfolding his intentions!!!
This kind of scenario goes two ways, it's either sentinel picked up miner reader and put on his facade for as long as possible, being too nice but also passive aggressive and showing his streaks of aggression and ego, or he could just pick them up, already showing his true self, although I would imagine he wouldn't really yk show show his true entire intentions
Itd be funny if he fell, heads over heels first. Not because he likes you or anything, but becuase he's lonely? I mean being a prime is a lonely job and eventually he believes the facade he puts on and has some kind of crises around it which kind of makes him a little more dangerous. Becuase now you're the biggest fattest weakness to his ego and he doesn't like vulnerabilities.
He might just kill you. Its not like you can run, right?

recharge, suguru geto
a/n: based off a request from a friend. hope you like this bae <3. (not proofread!) content: suguru x reader. suguru’s clingy. fluff. wc: 1.1k
𓇼 ⋆. 𓆝⋆. 𓇼 ˚。𓆉 ⋆𓇼 ⋆. 𓆝⋆. 𓇼 ˚。𓆉 ⋆𓇼 ⋆. 𓆝⋆. 𓇼 ˚。𓆉 ⋆𓇼 ⋆. 𓆝⋆. 𓇼 ˚。𓆉 ⋆𓇼 ⋆. suguru comes home late at night. stress evident on his face as you try to greet him like you usually do but he’s dismissive. not even a proper peck and he’s pulling away from you and going straight to the bedroom.
it hurts him more than it hurts you when he behaves like this. he wishes he could talk to you but he’d just end up breaking down and he’s tired of having you see him like this. he should be strong for you, shouldn’t he? you’re not in this relationship to take care of him constantly and get nothing in return. so he pushes you away.
he hopes you understand why he’s being so distant. and you guess he wants his space so you give it to him. but you also can’t just leave him alone so you tread carefully. you know he think he’s being selfish but you don’t mind it. he doesn’t realize it but he’s been there for you countless times taking care of you and being patient with you when all you want to do was rot in your apartment. so you try to do the same.
you give him his space. let him sleep alone in your shared bedroom. he lays in bed waiting for you to join him but he doesn’t know how to ask for it after he was so dismissive with you earlier. he huffs annoyed at himself and falls asleep yearning for your warmth.
the sun shining brightly through the opened curtains wake him up. absentmindedly he reaches out to hide his face in your neck but you’re not there. your side of the bed untouched and cold. eyebrows furrowed he walks out of the bedroom but you’re nowhere to be found. a throw blanket laid across the couch confirming his suspicions that you let him sleep alone. i mean he kinda asked for it, didn’t he? shit. did he really hurt you?
just as he’s about to grab his phone to call you he hears the jingle of keys unlocking the door. a shiver of relief runs over his body and he lays back in bed before you can see him. you set the groceries on the countertop and go into your bedroom to check if suguru’s woken up yet.
“suguru,” you softly call out his name. his heart clenches. he wishes you’d come over and touch him so he could use his sleepy state as an excuse to pull you closer. “hmm,” he groans. and when you finally lean down and lightly brush his bangs off his face he nuzzles his cheek into your palms.
you soft callouses kissing his cheeks. your fingers rub over his skin softly. and he’s so happy to feel your touch. “wake up, sleepyhead. let’s eat something.” you whisper planting a kiss near his ear.
you feel his arms around as you flip dora cakes. “feeling better?” you ask him. instead of replying he just nuzzles his nose into your neck causing you to slip out a sweet giggle. he covers the skin of your shoulder in kisses. his hands slip under your tank, scratching lightly at your abdomen.
he stays attached to your back as you try to move around the kitchen to plate your breakfast. you wonder what changed overnight to have him this clingy but frankly you don’t mind it. it’s better than him shutting you out.
“suguru,” you huff playfully but he doesn’t let go. he clicks his tongue in disagreement when you separate your food in two plates. “what?” you turn your head slightly to look at him. “same plate.” his voice muffled as he speaks into your neck. “okay,” you smile.
you’re so beautiful he thinks. his heart skips a beat at the way your smile enhances your features even more. he never wants to make you sad.
you cut up a piece and bring it up to his mouth, tease him with the food every time he opens his mouth. he grabs your hand to keep it still and takes a bite. you both take turns feeding each other sometimes letting out breathy laughs but mostly silently gazing in to each other’s eyes filled with love.
he spends the day crowding your space. his head in your lap as you answer emails on your laptop. he turns in your lap so he can face your stomach. his finger moves under your top pulling it higher and he pokes into your bellybutton and giggles when you let out yelp. he places a few kisses on the expanse of your exposed skin. from the left side of your hips to the right covered in his love. he even follows you the bathroom and waits outside until you’re done.
he grabs your face as soon as your out and places a desperate kiss on your lips. you kiss him back with the same fervor. you’re both walking back until he falls onto the bed pulling you with him and you break apart with a laugh. your head tipped back and laughing has him laughing as well. he moves in closer as you both quiet down.
“i’m sorry for last night,” he starts. “suguru, it’s o-“ you’re about to say until he places a finger onto your lips to stop you from talking. “no baby. it’s not okay. you should call me out if i’m being an asshole, okay? please baby. i wanna be better for you.” he tells you. and you just smile against his lips “okay, sugi. next time you don’t kiss me when you come in thru the door you’re getting a smack on your ass.” you joke. “i’m serious darling,” he says. “and don’t ever leave me alone in bed. and don’t sleep out on the couch if it’s not with me.”
“yes sir,” you tease making him smile. having had enough of your teasing he grabs your hands in one of his and pins them above your head. he comes in close and you ready yourself for a kiss until you feel his other hand tickling your sides and your burst out of laughing.
you manage to free your hands from his grasp and try to stop him “okay stop okay okay,” you say between laughs. he places kisses under your ear and over you jaw and neck as as you calm down from your laughing fit
“i love you. thank you for keeping up with me,” he tells you seriously. “i love you too, suguru.” you respond with a smile. and a beat later you whisper, “the sex makes it worth it,” eliciting a loud laugh from him.

New Homes | Platonic Yandere Tweels x Child Reader
Tumblr media
“From today on (Y/n), you’ll be hanging out with the Leech family so please…be on your best behavior.”
Your father was always a little timid. Always speaking with a little quake in his voice. His eyes were always wide darting around. His softer hands like to shake as well. Always wavering even when he held you tight.
Your father is timid. which is why he warns you when he leaves you with the Leech family. Babysitters always make him nervous. It must be because there are two this time—two babysitters with lopsided haircuts and smiles filled with sharp daggers for teeth.
“Hello little (Y/n), we’ll be sure to take good care of you.”
“Oi (Y/n), you a swimmer?”
The twins were nice…for teenagers. Other teenagers you knew would sooner shove your head underwater than help you tread it. Other teenagers also didn’t jump at the chance to fight people but that was other teenagers. Not the Leech twins.
“(Y/n), I told you not to look at Floyd when he’s doing that.”
“But that guy is still holding onto our ice cream.”
“We’ll have some at home. Don’t point at him it’s rude.”
Jade is the twin with his bang on the left side of his face. He’s proper and polite, always doing his best to keep you on schedule. Helping you with your homework when he notices you’re struggling or reading to you when it's time to sleep.
“Let me blow your nose.”
“Mmm okay.”
“Good job. Are you ready to go over the edible mushrooms again?”
“Mm okay.”
Floyd is the twin with a yellow left eye and a pitchy voice. He’s loud and silly, always doing fun things that make the day exciting like running in the halls of the manor or playing tickle-monsters when you’ve been working too long.
“I just have to finish these sheets and then I can play!”
“Boooriing!  Let’s just play now!”
“B-but Jade said–”
“Jade can make you catch up later! Let’s get our water guns!”
“Yay!”
They were always so much fun to be around, even work wasn’t so bad with them around. They made a place for you in their giant home. Giving you a room as big as your living room back home, which you slowly filled with the larger souvenirs from your days together.
Speaking of home, it was becoming harder to recall. Trying to remember when you thought of your home if the bathroom was to the left of your room or your father’s. It was an odd feeling that sat at the back of your mind when you looked at the glow-in-the-dark ceiling art. Consciousness fading in and out it didn’t stop your brain from planting the seed of curiosity.
“Why…am I at their house so much?”
Usually, the answer would have been simple. Your father worked late so you had babysitters. But you didn’t go to their house usually. They also didn’t feed or play with you as long as they did but that was beside the point.
“(Y/n), you’re playing with your food.”
“Oh sorry Missus Leech.”
You made quick work of the beans on your plate, enthusiastically scarfing down what you could. It didn’t feel right to disappoint Missus Leech, while she never once yelled; there was just this feeling about her. One that called for respect.
“Take your time, (Y/n). I was only worried you’d drift off to sea.”
Looking up at her, tilted your head in confusion.
She let out a giggle. The adult kind that made you feel embarrassed. Looking at Jade, he had an amused smile too, “She means your mind, (Y/n).”
“Oh, I guess a little.”
“What’ya thinkin’ about elver?”
Floyd spoke between bites of food, reminding you to do the same.
“I just think I miss my home a little bit.”
Taking another hefty bite you missed the disdain on someone’s face. A purposeful cough brought your attention up to the patriarch at the head of the table.
“How are those new shoes we bought together?”
Lighting up at the memory of your new shoes, you barely finished chewing.
“So cool! Everyone at school thought they were nice too! And I got so many compliments.”
The older man laughed, nodding his head. “Good. Good. Maybe we should go shopping again soon.”
“Okay!”
Dinner went on like usual with dessert ending your time at the dinner table. Letting Jade and Floyd lead you to your bathroom to begin your nightly routine. You fought off the urge to yawn while Jade helped you brush your teeth, failing when he told you to spit.
“It’s always nice when Mama and Papa come back from trips.”
Floyd spoke with his back lying on the giant bed, filled with stuffed animals and pillows. He was tossing your clowned fish stuffy in the air catching it with ease.
Jade still smiling continued buttoning up your pajamas, “Yes, it seems like the trip went well.”
He looked at you, reminding you to follow him to your bed. “What about you (Y/n)? Did you miss them?”
Your eyelids were feeling heavy. You rubbed them to try to wipe the feeling away.
“Uh yeah.”
Helping Jade shuffle your stuffies around to make a place for you a knock at the door was heard. Floyd must have opened it because by the time you turned Missus Leech was there.
“Mama!”
Rubbing at Floyd’s head she waved to you and Jade.
“Hi there! I was wondering if I could join you for bedtime?”
You couldn’t tell if The question was for you but if it was Jade answered anyway.
“Of course, Mother. We were just about to read their bedtime story.”
Tucked in next to Missus Leech you let yourself lean against her as she flipped through the pages of the book. Letting her words soothe your mind with the familiar words. Jade and Floyd were close by too making you comfy enough to go to sleep.
When the story was done, everyone gave you goodnight kisses before heading for the door. With the last of your energy, you remembered something important.
“Floyd, are you picking me up tomorrow or Daddy?”

The teenager was squeezing the fleshy cylinder shape with an intensity strong enough to bend metal. The crunching and squelching of a man’s neck barely brought comfort to Jade as he continued to squeeze his hands.
“There there Jade, these things take time. It was optimistic that they’d forget by now.”
Unfortunately, the words of his father didn’t calm him down. He headed over to his next target, this time allowing them to throw a punch. Dodging the punch he cradled their hand, maneuvering his arm around until it snapped in the opposite direction. The screaming that followed would have curdled blood for most but it was a lesser result to Jade. Who ended it quickly with a firm kick sent backward and into the skull. The crunch that followed and the abrupt cut to the scream allowed the Leech twin to breathe.
“I knew they wouldn’t forget. Despite all the work we’ve done. But they still expect him to come.”
His father stepped forward, avoiding the bodies to place a comforting hand on Jade’s shoulder.
“Perhaps he still does…to them.”
Jade’s eyes widened, the implication bringing a stark realization. He turned to his father, his yellow gaze answering the unspoken question.
To think that with all the work he was saddled with, the sniper still hadn’t abandoned his child. The likelihood was slim but possible. There were quite a few blind spots when it came to the school. Jade had previously ignored them because of the promised security of their contract with the one who wanted him dead. But it seems that wasn’t all they needed to worry about.
“Do you think he plans to take them again?”
“I’d hope not,” entering the warehouse was Fiona Leech having traded out her evening dress for a jumpsuit and shoving a receiver of a baby monitor in her pocket, “our little elver is just about to be settled. It’d be cruel to try moving them again..”
“I don’t think he cares at this point,” Jasper Leech suggested. Pulling out a revolver, he casually aimed and shot the two people tied in the back of the warehouse. He continued, “I hear he’s been getting sloppy with the jobs that one has so graciously allowed him to fix.”
Jade balanced himself wiping his shoe clean with a rag, chiming in himself.
“Now he’s trying to go back on his word. Absolute scum.”
“I’d hate for us to pull them out of school, more change is not what that kid needs.”
“I wouldn’t mind limiting my club activities to partake in homeschooling.”
His mother held his face patting his head fondly as she cooed,” You’re a good boy Jade but you have your new job and all those plans I wouldn’t want you to give that up.”
Jasper sighed, scratching the well-groomed stache on his face. “Guess that means we’re ending our contracts early.”
“Seems so…..Now Jade go on get to bed you have school in the morning.”
“Yes, Mama.”

The shade was nice on sunny days. The coolness that came with the blackened space near the fence was like heaven. The spot was farther away from the plastic playground and the other children running all throughout. Minutes ago, you were just like them running wildly at a more loose game of sharks and minnows.
Past the wood-chipped ground was the back of the school building where the teachers were chatting. Disappearing between the rectangular windows, their attention was on something inside. Distracted enough not to scold you for stepping away from the others. The triumph of your expert timing was the true prize. Relishing in the leaves of the trapezoid-shaped bushes pushing through the fence. Crunchy, tickling, and overgrown the feeling against your back was a minor trait of this sacred place.
There was also the oddly pressing poke of something warm coming through the hole of the fences. Turning to confirm your suspicions, you smiled.
“Hi, Papa.”
“Hello, my Starlight!”
Turning around to mirror his position you laid on your tummy to look him in the eye. His tactical glasses were off and his hair had changed. His longer hair was gone, traded out for a faded cut. Different but still your father. You let his larger gruffer fingers hold your own through the fence, his hands for once not shaking.
“Can I tell you all about my adventures?”
“Of course.”
He let you rant, smiling and nodding all along to all your different adventures. You even took off your shoes and showed him the flickering lights in its soles. He waited until you were out of breath before asking the question again.
“Would you like to come with Papa, this time?”
You hesitated kicking your feet against the wooden chips of the playground.
“Are we going back to our home?”
“...No.”
Tilting your head,” Then are we going to the Jade and Floyd’s?”
The names made him shudder as he hurriedly shook his head.
“W-we’re going someplace new….”
“Where are we going?”
He rubbed at his eyebrows. He was getting annoyed. But you knew you had to ask otherwise you’d be brought somewhere you hated. Like that one time.
“(Y/n) you’re curiosity is great but—”
“Does where we’re going have a bed? Does it have a kitchen? Are we going to be only eating the gas place’s sandwiches?”
He scrunched his hands into his hair, grasping for his non-existent flowing hair. His lips were quivering and his eyes were watering. It made you nervous, sitting up from your tummy and on your knees. You sent a look over your shoulder at the window–the teachers were still occupied. Looking down at your father, you silently sighed as you got into character.
“Hirano wherever you're taking that little Starlight, it better be the best place for a kid. Those Leech’s are makin’ sure they're on time at school, they're well-fed, and I haven’t gotten a call from protective services for a good while.”
“I know! I know Mama but they won’t let me leave. I screwed up! I screwed up really bad! If I don’t do another job for that guy, he’s going to have my head! B-but I want to go back to normal! I want to spend my days helping (Y/n) with homework and coming home and watching those silly cartoons with my Starlight–”
Your heart was aching and your eyes were getting watery. You waved a hand at your eyes and cleared your throat sticking your hand through the hole to hold his.
“Y-you’ve got to get your ducks in order before you take your Starlight back–”
“But Mom!”
“Don’t but me…Starlight is safe. You’ve got to make sure you are too before you take them back.”
“But the debt I owe…it’s so big and their patience is thin. I don’t know if I’ll be able to come back….”
Taking a deep breath, you went back to your original position on your tummy.
“Papa, I’m always going to be here. Safe and waiting for you. So you can go on your work trip I don’t mind.”
He smiled at that reaching through the gate to affectionately bop you on your nose.
“That’s right…I’m just on a work trip. I’ll be back before you even notice. I’m gone!”
He began to scooch away but you stopped him calling for him to come back to the fence. You kissed his forehead and he kissed yours.
“I’ll….see you when you got back Papa….”
“Yup! You know it! If you need anything just ask your grandma, okay?”
“...Okay…”
Like that, he disappeared.
You were left to stare at the disfigured leaves and dying branches. Burning the memory of his face into your mind.
“(Y/n)! Your brother’s here to pick you up.”
It took you a minute before you stood up again. Frantically wiping at the water streaming from your eyes, you waited until your throat was no longer croaky to finally respond.
“Coming!”
It was all a blur, saying goodbye to your friends and packing your backpack. The memories of the sweet older lady you used to spend so much time with. She taught you how to help your father, explaining the work he was in. It made your head hurt. Thinking about it now, you can say that’s why you stay at the Leech’s house so much.
“Ready to go little elver?”
“Yeah,” you stuck your hands up while he brought you up higher supporting you with his arms. You didn’t want to but you let your gaze fall on the disfigured spot in the bushes behind the playground fence.
Floyd glared at the spot.
“What’s over there, (Y/n)?”
Visualizing him one last time. You’re glad you could say goodbye. Curling your head into his uniform’s collar, you blinked your extra tears away.
“Nothing anymore…let’s go home, please.”
You missed the smile on Floyd’s face, laughing to himself as he made his way to the family car.
“As always, little elvie!”
