So the Transformers RPG's Beginner Box: Roll Out set is coming with the scenario of the core rulebook and the first scenario of the A Time Is Now campaign book, and character guides for Hound, Gauge, Anode, Aileron, Smokescreen, Novastar, Beachcomber, and Springer, some of whom were stand-ins for player characters in A Time Is Now including in the art for the book. This is releasing in May.

Gauge, Aileron, and Anode have actual character guides for suggestions of how to play them!!! Arcee, who is the quartermaster of the Ark and an npc in A Time Is Now, also had a pregen released a while ago as free bonus material as a warrior sentinel (which means she's specialized in melee weapons/martial arts generally and deflecting attacks and such and can have an extra shield or parrying weapon, can manifest energon weapons without spending energon, has more free actions, etc) with a gladiator influence.

So um if there is anybody out there looking to play some of the (trans) lesbian gals of transformers and their mentee (admittedly in Anode's case assuming she was just Arcee's friend like in IDW1 she's more like Gauge's aunt but we're pretty sure everyone following us is aware that we very much adore the Greenlight/Aileron/Anode/Arcee/Lug/Lancer ship that we're more or less responsible for being one of the first to toss around on the internet) or would like that to be their introduction to the game this is a thing you will be able to do in a few months.

Just. Just really blown away. We're just overjoyed, especially with everything happening right now that makes life for gender and orientation expansive folk so hard, that Renegade committed to showing some more of these bots. Very curious what Anode's art will look like since she hasn't had any of her IDW art shown in the book yet, Aileron got some new art in the TTRPG as did Gauge.

*coughs* obviously if you play Aileron *cough* there is an obvious npc in A Time Is Now to romance in the game if that's something people at the table including the GM who'd be playing her is cool with that *wheezes in lesbian*-

assuming its not already an established relationship and this is just more of a family adventure of some alien robot lesbians (okay look we have to note that the same gender loving transformer gals probably wouldn't call themselves lesbians they might have their own words for that and gender stuff but this is not the post to talk about the orientation and aesthetic systems we've come up with for transforming alien robots) and their friends and their daughter. I um wow this a thing. wow even though things can be crud this really actually happened. We actually had the honor of playing Gauge in a delightful and harrowing A Time Is Now game with some friends and the mother-daughter moments with Arcee were really fun

It really sucks that, at least as far as I can see, the general consensus for any of Renegade Studios' licensed Essence20 TTRPGs are that they're pretty rough, if not outright bad.

Part of the problem, it seems, is that these games all use the same system, which itself is very similar to D&D 5e (I've seen lots of people mention the idea that these RPGs were all initially designed to be officially licensed 5e hacks, in that they'd use the system as it exists with maybe some adjustments; at some point this idea fell through and the company had to scramble to come up with their own system that resembled 5e) - to the total ignorance and detriment to the respective tones of each game's universe.

Animal Handling, Languages, Survival skills, etc. In My Little Pony? Power Rangers? Not to mention complicated character creation, lots of editing problems (certain things are referenced in one part of a book as if another part has an explanation, but there is none), and a whole host of other issues.

All of these popular IPs deserved to have their own unique, fun, and well-made TTRPG systems that captured the feel of their universes - the whole point of playing a TTRPG set in these universes in the first place! - and nobody seems actually pleased unless they do tons of modifications and homebrew content that they shouldn't have to do in the first place to enjoy something they paid (a lot f money) for!

They should have released the Power Rangers HyperForce system. I'm not a Transformers person, but the concept of playing in that universe seems pretty appealing as an outsider. MLP had a different TTRPG in the past that seemingly captures the show's world better, but is too simplistic for older fans. I know nothing about GI Joe, but I know it's got its fair share of fans.

It's just a shame, as someone who wants to play so many games in so many worlds, that so few seem well-made.

so in our current ttrpg game, there's a species called the gorlamites who are in the ttrpg non-transforming robot-organic hybrids (in the comics some do transform and we will homage that), but there isn't a lot of art closeup of the organics or non transforming robots, and we wanted to have fun with aesthetic variation- so we bought and downloaded this pack on roll20 of these robots based off of lancer mechs because they're so cute and have size and proportion variety, thought it would be a good representation of a utopian future for these bots and will 100% be using these for games with og robots in other games https://marketplace.roll20.net/browse/set/29529/whimsical-robots

and we realized that looking back at the Heart of Darkness #1 the art this isnt actually that far off for the robots so this is perfect (the narration in the comic panel shown is by IDW1 Galvatron who's more than a bit of a mechanoid and moreover transformer supremacist along with only favoring certain kinds of transformers)

ofc transformations are easy digitally if we want to give some of these gorlamites an altmode, just add more sides to a token, (if you're looking for rules for the gorlamites they're in the decepticon directive, we're going to be reapplying the modular attachments perks to other npc blocks from the core rulebook and that book and also our own npc blocks we'e made including stuff drawing on supplement books and gijoe and power ranger stuff since its all cross-compatible)

also the battletech fan in is amused that the scout robot (the green and teal one at the bottom right holding an smg sort of blaster) looks so much like a mix between a Commando and Urbanmech (for those of you not familiar with the Urbanmech it's slow and armored stats as a light urban defense mech mixed with having some of the heaviest weaponry of its class paired with a small laser has been the source of much humor and memes in the battletech community for years e.g. this hilarious video)

If I seem quiet today, it's because I actually focused on figuring out character creation for the Transformers TTRPG (finding the section that tells you to start off with a "point buy" of 12 clarified everything)... So I've been working on building my TFsona while at work to hopefully find a game.
