Things That Annoy Me About The Transformers Fandom As A Transformers Fan, Edition 2: That Time That Megatron Was An Autobot

Alright, for those that do not know, some context. Back in 2012, IDW Publishing released a series of Transformers comics titled "More Than Meets The Eye. The series was written by James Roberts, with art by Alex Milne and colors by Josh Burcham. The series ran for 58 total single issues and has been collected in 11 trade paperbacks. It's probably one of the most significant and most popular Transformers comic book series to date and I am not being hyperbolic about that.

Now, something that occurred within the run of MTMTE is that Megatron, leader of the Decepticons, decided to join the Autobot ranks and even brandish an Autobot insignia on his chest. Now, I can see how around the time of this happening that there would be some discourse about it but, the fact that there's still discourse about the time that Megatron became an Autobot is kind of stupid to me, especially with how current in the Earthspark TV show, Megatron is effectively on the side of the Autobot but sure, let's continue to complain about what happened in a comic book series that started 12 years ago.

Now, what I think it comes down to is that people do not like when you take a long established character like Megatron and make any sort of change to them. Why else do people STILL complain that we'll never get to see Megatron be a gun ever again in toy form? "Oh, you wanna make Megatron an Autobot? Yeah, no, you can't do that, that's like illegal or something". I think that's a stupid and narrow minded way of thinking honestly. You can't tell me that no one has ever had the thought of "What if Autobot Decepticon war ended and Megatron joined the Autobots?" because I think that's a cool idea with a story worth telling so I really have never understood why people continue to complain about Megatron becoming an Autobot in this series in particular. A lot of Transformers fans love Shattered Glass, where the Autobots are the bad folks and Decepticons are the good ones so why is it so bad that Megatron became an actual Autobot for a time???

I think that the Transformers franchise is so big that there are so many stories worth telling aside from the typical Autobots fight the Decepticons until the end of time.

So, I recently heard about McFarlene Toys doing something within the Transformers brand recently and through some Googling, I find that it's apart of this line called Page Punchers and I find an image like the one above. So, what the heck is it? What you get are two comic books, two three inch scale figures of Optimus Prime and Megatron and some kind of stand thing. Now, before I get into what's actually here, when I heard of this I assumed that the two figures would be based off of characters from the current and ongoing Transformers comics from Skybound and Image comics.

But, what I am seeing is definitely not that and I am going to break down the figures first. Megatron is so wildly missing paint that it bothers me, plus this is the IDW design of the character, which I like a lot. But like, the pieces on the side of the legs are supposed to be black, his hand are supposed to be black, his mid section should have a darker grey and some red, and same for the area around his head too, dark gray with red. He should have light grey on sections on the knee pads, his feet should be light grey and the section right above the feet should light grey also.

Prime should have silver on the tanker bit on the legs, some yellow on the crotch sections and his ear things should be much longer. They really skipped out on painted these figures properly and it really disappoints me, especially coming from McFarlan Toys. Prime also doesn't come with any accessories either! No blaster, no axe, not a damn thing, especially when Megatron still has their fusion canon, it's not really fair if you ask me and makes this Prime feel kind of plain and boring.

Now, the comics. As I said, I was fully expecting this to come with issues from the new Skybound series but it doesn't. Instead we get the first issue from the 2016 Optimus Prime series by IDW and we get the first issue from 2016's Lost Light by IDW. Now, this doesn't bother me but I don't think that this makes sense. Why not include the first issue from your brand new series??? You'd get more people interested in the new series if you did but, what do I know? There have been many people that have critized Disney for not making an emphasis on comic books at the height of the MCU and I fairly certain that Todd McFarlane is one of those people so, it really surprises me that for this Page Punchers thing they'd base the figures on IDW designs and include comic books from the IDW Transformers era.

These don't release until the end of April with a price of $17-$18 which, given the lack of paint on both figures and the lack of accessories on Prime, that seems like a little bit much for two three inch figures and two comic books that are now seven years old. I do want to go this just to see if the figures are any good since they are fully articulated and stuff and see if it's actually worth the price. for me, it probably won't especially since I already have that issue and all of the issues from the Optimus Prime series so, yeah.

The reason you see so many NSFW and smut content in this fandom is bc humans do have sex, humans do reproduce, and humans are human(who would have known)

fanfiction is fanfiction made by FANS. They are not canon, and the filth people make would have the creators clutching there pearls. I’m not gonna sit here and act like I haven’t written multiple smut fics and use fanon terms lmao but I’ve seen so many people use fanon terms as if they were canon and I can only assume that they either don’t know or don’t care, and if you don’t care that’s fine! Ppl can do whatever they want. But for the new fans, just so you are aware, here are some FANON terms that(some)would cause multiple lawsuits if ever used in canon

Mech and Femme are never used. Mech *maybe* but I’ve never heard/seen femme

Cybertronions don’t have a concept of gender. There are trans bots but their gender is something beyond human gender, and the bots using she/he or they is just so readers can understand in human terms. We are reading these comics in English/an earth language, but they are speaking cybertronion, a made up language that can’t exactly translate to any earth language.

in some continuities the following words are used, but are originally fanon: Servo, pede, helm, exc. They use human words, and bulkheads name is bulkHEAD. Not bulkhelm.

also sparklings aren’t a thing. Young bots, ofc. They mentally mature and their physical form can be altered but not to the extent of a human.
