Clarification about Pedro

Unless I am way off base, Pedro the Prairie Dog is not the same Pedro that molested Eugene. Remember, Eugene says: “Troopleader Pedro…I haven’t thought about you in years.” If Troopleader Pedro was also the mascot, then Eugene would definitely have thought about him recently.

Instead, the closest Eugene got to thinking about this early trauma was unconsciously connecting the Troopleader’s identity to another public figure named “Pedro.” Similar to how Eugene’s father did not actually have his face blown off like Eugene’s, Troopmaster Pedro was in the Prairie Dog costume for symbolic reasons.

Sheriff Root wore his son’s face because Eugene believed the trauma he inflicted on his own face was equally inflicted on his family’s soul. Troopmaster Pedro dressed as Pedro the Prairie Dog because he was somebody Eugene - and other children - trusted…a perversion of trust equal to that of a pedophile wearing a mascot costume. 

The writers introduced the mascot as a stand-in because it would be less confusing than creating and casting a whole new character whose only purpose would only be to behave creepy for 10 seconds. On top of this, if they did retroactively make Pedro the Prairie Dog a pedophile, the writing staff would be perpetuating the stereotype that being a homosexual equates to being a pervert…as basically all we know about Pedro the Prairie Dog is that he’s a closeted gay mascot. In conclusion, rest easy…Pedro the Prairie Dog has not been spoiled.
