sometimes i ask myself if pictures of nonviolence and art works about political conflicts have an impact.. and what are they doing for the culture as a whole?
what can we as individuals do for a society and culture of peace, if we don't live in places where thoughtless governments through bombs on our siblings?
what can we do to contribute to a culture that opposes war already before it can start?
what structures do we need?
can we support eachother with the people that live around us? no matter where we are?
in the end i think also images and art can help transform society and culture to a more just one.

"THE WINDOW OF TRANSFORMATION" chart by Kai Cheng Thom. (They are so inspiring.)
Um... I'm still gonna punch nazis, tho. Is that okay? Not sure how to square that with non-punitive accountability, but I’ll keep trying.
Thoughts?

I don’t want to live in a world where people are disposable. I don’t want to live in a world where people who are deemed as toxic remain only as the single word and nothing more. I don’t want to live in a world where we cut and discard human beings. I don’t want to live in a world where people become defined by single words that overlook the entire book that they are writing and have been writing their entire lives. I don’t want to live in a world built from generalizations. I want to live in a world where we look deeper at one another. I want to live in a world where we have the capacity and emotional intelligence to understand that when people are “toxic” it is not a stagnant existence but rather a way of being resulting from a toxic system. I want to live in a world that fosters growth. I want to live in a world that unshackles people from their 2 dimensionalized caricatures. I want to live in a world that communicates and offers people the benefit of knowing what is toxic and how to change.

Read the post below! Reposted from @theguerrillafeminist - THIS! #Repost @mia.mingus with @get_repost ・・・ I gave an all day training yesterday on transformative justice and mid-way through, a participant asked me, “this may seem like a silly question, but how are we defining violence?” . I answered, that it is not a silly question at all — in fact it is a very important and complicated question — and that we need to have more conversations with each other about what violence, harm and abuse are because not everyone has the same understandings. For many, sexual harassment is seen as a normal and “fun” way to behave in the workplace. For many, beating your child or withholding love and affection are understood as normal, even admirable, ways of parenting. For many, misogynist, transphobic, and homophobic language and actions are perfectly acceptable. . We need to build shared definitions of violence and harm in our communities, families and relationships... And our world, and this tweet is a perfect example. . . [tweet from @chenchenwrites: it’s just wild to be alive when ppl talk about billionaires as if that’s a normal ok thing to be and not a blaring alarm signaling how fucked up and unjust the world is] . #TransformativeJustice https://www.instagram.com/p/BtRuPNGjAjS/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=6ac4z9a75x2l

¨~POD~ Your pod is made up of the people that you would call on if violence, harm or abuse happened to you; or the people that you would call on if you wanted support in taking accountability for violence, harm or abuse that you’ve done; or if you witnessed violence or if someone you care about was being violent or being abused.¨
do u have a pod?

Did you miss Leigh Goodmark and #TeamNRCDV's Heidi Notario on KALW? 🎧 Listen at the link here! SUCH a crucial discussion about how COVID-19 has impacted survivors, why the Violence Against Women Act's (#VAWA) reliance on police doesn't support survivors, and how to integrate transformative justice into this movement.

For this installment of “Beyond the Page,” I interviewed Tanuja Devi Jagernauth—Indo-Caribbean playwright, dramaturg, organizer—about how her practices in theater, prison abolition, healing justice, and transformative justice interconnect; creating spaces for BIPOC theater-makers; doing mutual aid during and beyond the pandemic; and how she challenges systems of oppression and struggles for collective liberation through her work.
Read the interview on the Sixty Inches from Center website. Jagernauth’s short play, To Know A Neighbor, is also embedded within the article!
Image description #1: Tanuja Devi Jagernauth. In this medium close-up photo, a self-portrait, Jagernauth looks at the camera with a firm expression. She wears glasses, red lipstick, hoop earrings, a headwrap, and a black cardigan over a black shirt that reads “WE DON’T PLAY,” repeated. Photo courtesy of the artist.
Image description #2: A digital illustration with four overlapping quadrants. In the top left-hand corner, three bees face a section of honeycomb. In the bottom left-hand corner, two people smile behind transparent face masks, each person holding part of a bag’s handle. The bag depicts a heart against a tree, with a broad circle behind that. In the bottom right-hand corner, a hand holds a pencil poised above the first line of a new sheet of paper. In the top right-hand corner, hand-written words float in the air (action, mutual aid, building, alignment, restructuring, bravery, struggle, ideas, collaboration), with dark blue, purple, and pink shading behind each. The left side of the illustration is yellow, the right side is blue, and they fade together to make green in the middle. Illustration by Teshika Silver (@astratesh).
