what did you think of the fabric of civilization? im always on the hunt for cool textile history books!!
i enjoyed it! as someone with little to no prior interest/knowledge on the subject it felt like a good & pretty exhaustive overview for a layperson, def made me appreciate the role of textiles in human history a lot more :)
#admittedly my enjoyment varied a LOT between the chapters#(the ones on thread or dye? very cool. the one on trading? had me zoning out constantly)#but thats prolly bound to happen with a subject that touches on so many disciplines and aspects of life

""Zoot Suit" Tailor Fined $200, Costs," Montreal Star. August 24, 1943. Page 3. --- PLEADING guilty to manufacturing 47 "zoot suits" in contravention of the regulations of the Wartime Prices and Trade Board, David Croft, operating "Alexandre Le Tailleur", 311 St. Catherine street east, was fined $200 and costs or one month in jail today by Judge E. Archambault.
Croft pleaded guilty through his lawyer, who sought to have the fine fixed at $100, pointing out that this had been the penalty paid by others on similar charges. Judge Archambault, however, said that it was time that tailors knew that the manufacturing of "zoot" suits is prohibited.

#which is why I call them temporarily abled#the ones who get it get it#the ones who refuse to see their ableism scream and kick and say I’m calling them slurs#which tells me that they see the word disabled as a slur#and exactly how they use it to describe people
sorry @thebibliosphere but I have to drag these into a reblog, because calling people temporarily abled is just such a stroke of genius.
Some rando: You should think about stopping your prescription
Me: My pills make me not want to die tho
They: You shouldn’t want to die, that’s not normal
Me: Yeah that’s why I’m taking my pills
#will need to remember this next time someone tries to helpfully point out how I could just you know just not be sick#yes karen I too would like to just not be sick#I too would prefer not to suffer#how about we trade and you can JUS T decide not to be sick instead if you are clearly so much more disciplined#but you can do everything right and 1+1 still somehow turns out to be 5

Yeah China had one of the most monetised economies in the world for centuries. Previously (since about the 12th century) the Yuan dynasty and their Ming successors had issued paper fiat currency but run-away inflation led to the Ming abandoning that idea during the 15th century and began replacing them with Silver coins. Silver had always been relatively rare in Eastern Eurasia compared to the West (where as meanwhile gold was relatively common) and about the time reintroduction of silver coins really started ramping was when the global maritime trading network of Europe really got established. There was massive demand in Europe for all manner of Chinese goods (silks and other fabrics, porcelain, tea) and the Spanish became very reliant on imports from other parts of Europe they paid for with their Silver coins. So the you had Europeans (both the Spanish themselves trading through the Philippines and other Europeans who used coins they had earlier acquired from the Spanish) very willing and able to meet the massive and expanding demand for silver China was experiencing at the time. However a lot of European sovereigns were worried about the impacts that the draining of their silver reserves would have and desperately tried to find some other less valuable good they could trade for Chinese products. By the 18th century the British had found their answer in Opium (grown in their Indian colonies on largely former cotton fields after the growth of the Egyptian and USamerican cotton industries drove them out of business) and this trade was so lucrative they were willing to go to war to maintain it. But even as the flow of silver into China eased up the volumes of Pesos that remained in circulation were sufficient to maintain their position as a widely accepted currency into the 201th century
One of my favorite little facts about history is that the Mexican peso was functionally the everyday unit of currency in China in the 19th and early 20th century. Silver was one of the few western commodities that Chinese merchants were willing to trade in at rates that made shipping it to China (an expensive, arduous process) profitable; this trade became so voluminous by the 19th century that large everyday transactions even far away from port cities were conducted in pesos, in large part because Mexico's large domestic silver supply and existing transpacific trade links meant that the currency was stable (a known quantity to merchants in a time and place where relatively pure silver coins were otherwise uncommon) and readily available for use in trade
#the Sino-European silver trade is actually a very interesting chapter in the history of globalisation and capitalism#and lets keep in mind the brutality it was built upon-this silver was produced on occupied indigenous land with slaved or coerced labourers#and the conditions on European trade ships at the time were pretty awful#I might write more about it but between the discipline deprivation and resulting mortality rate many scholars have basically called#early modern merchant ships; plantations for white people

"LABOR MAN RESENTS U.S. ADMIRAL'S VIEWS." Toronto Star. October 2, 1942. Page 20. --- Denies Workers Lack Discipline - "Can't Win War If Labor Unions Destroyed" --- J. W. Buckley, secretary of the Toronto District Trades and Labor council, took exception last night to views on trades unionism expressed here by Rear-Admiral Ben Moreell, U.S. navy. At the council session he termed the admiral's remarks "utterances of fascist philosophy." "I consider that such remarks should be rebutted," Mr. Buckley declared after reading from a newspaper clipping. "When admirals talk economics off the quarterdeck, I think they are out of place. I think when the history of this war is written, it will be found that capital, not labor, has lain down on the job." Mr. Buckley denied that the labor movement lacked discipline. Stabilization of Canadian war workers and the assistance trades unionism has given the government in keeping strikes to a minimum was evidence, he contended, of the discipline in the labor movement. "So far as the workers of Canada are concerned," Mr. Buckley said, "we are going to win this war and it will not be won if the labor movement is destroyed."
President William Jenoves said that, if the admiral spoke as quoted, he would "support the secretary's criticism 100 per cent."

Drawdown in Forex Trading with FTG
The blog titled "Drawdown in Forex Trading – Understanding and Managing Losses" delves into the concept of drawdown in forex trading, which refers to the decline in a trading account's equity from its peak due to a series of losing trades. The guide emphasizes the importance of effectively managing drawdowns to preserve capital, maintain confidence, and avoid impulsive decisions during challenging market phases. The blog explains the different types of drawdowns, including equity drawdown and maximum drawdown, and provides a simple formula for calculating drawdown percentages. It discusses common causes of drawdowns in forex trading, such as market volatility, unsuitable strategies, overleveraging, poor risk management, and external factors. The psychological impact of drawdowns on traders is highlighted, emphasizing the emotional toll they can take, leading to self-doubt and anxiety. The long-term effects of drawdowns on trading performance are explored, including capital erosion and missed opportunities. Strategies for managing drawdowns are extensively covered, including risk management techniques such as proper position sizing and setting stop-loss orders. Diversification and asset allocation, utilizing trailing stops, revisiting and adjusting trading strategies, and the importance of analyzing historical data are also discussed. The blog emphasizes the psychological aspects of dealing with drawdowns, including maintaining discipline, overcoming fear and greed, and the importance of keeping a trading journal for self-reflection and growth. Story
I am Mahmoud Al-Masri, I'm 21 years old, living at the Gaza Strip, an academic student majoring in Graphic Design.
I am here to ask for your support to complete my university education outside my city of Gaza after the Israeli occupation destroyed universities and colleges in the Gaza Strip and destroyed education facilities, youth support institutions and training spaces that aim to provide training for all disciplines and then provide job opportunities for young people, most of which were destroyed.
We used to have a beautiful life, despite the siege on Gaza and the wars on it. We used to have a house and now we live in a tent "displaced", we used to have dreams and we pursued them and still do, we used to go to the sea which is the only breathing space for the people of the Gaza Strip, we used to live peacefully despite all the siege. We here in Gaza have brilliant and innovative minds that learn medicine, technology, professional specialties, agriculture, industry, trade and all specialties, we just need someone to support us, appreciate what we do and motivate us to keep going.
Help me
October 7, 2023 is a date that I will never forget, we were displaced about 8 times and lived through terror and destruction and are still living it, we saw death with our own eyes and survived death several times, our features changed, we became young people instead of worrying about our future, we became tired of securing water and food for our family and carrying water from a distant place to the tent is very tiring, our bodies are tired of the weights we carry daily and the diseases that spread and we don't know what's next.
I decided to pay back my knowledge and the information I gained from study, search, and workshops by share it on social media. I will answer on everyone's questions, and make webinars as my teachers do with us.
These ideas will help educational community to grows.
My goal in launching my campaign is to raise funds to complete my university studies outside my city, to cover the costs of travel, housing, food, the costs of the university I will attend, and I am currently looking for a distinguished university in the field of graphic design. I asked my friends who attended universities in Europe to suggest some universities, and among my goals after studying is to provide a safe and stable place to live with my family.
I would be very grateful for your support for me and my educational journey.
I wish you a life full of happiness and prosperity

I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again:
Brat Enthusiast 141
They love love LOVE a disobedient little brat with a sweet streak, too clever for their own good. There’s a bit of discipline, but there’s also just watching their little toy spin themselves up, stupidly charmed by all that audacity.
Gaz mentally tallying orgasms (or denials) every time you say one of those bratty catchphrases. “Don’t tell me what to do!” That’s two. “But I don’t wanna!” That’s three. All the while chuckling and negotiating you into doing what he asked. He’s a master of trading this for that, softening you up with kisses and touches until he’s got you right where he wants you. You’ll disagree with him out of spite and he adores it.
Price letting you mouth off because you’re obeying his orders anyway. “You’re so bossy and what for? A please wouldn’t kill you!” Even as you’re getting on your knees just like he told you. In ten minutes, you’ll be saying “please” enough for the both of you. You don’t even have to call him sir, you do it on your own. (Granted you say it with the Most ironic tone and usually scrunching up your nose to provoke him)
Simon with the giggliest little thing, who smiles and makes it a game to get him to break from his Dom Persona. Grinning and laughing, voice high pitched when he pins you, eyes smoldering. “Oh! Oh yes, this is very serious, of course Mister Lieutenant Riley Sir!” Loves when you cut yourself off from some light hearted remark with a moan, squirming while he rubs his cock against your wet cunt.
Johnny whose sweetie has a snippy streak. Sweet as pie but plays hard to get just to get him salivating. “No! No kisses for you!” You say, actively sitting in his lap while he tries to catch you lips - until he grabs your jaw in one big hand and takes advantage of the pleased squeak that parts those pretty, pouty lips. You nip just to get him growling, get his fingers against your molars, daring you to bite again.
Just… uagh!!! Brat enthusiast doms!!! Spoiled little subs that know their doms are ridiculously charmed by those defiant little head tilts and faux-innocent blinks.
