Jamaica tourism economy
Jamaica's tourism economy bears troubling similarities to a modern-day system where wages are deliberately kept low to benefit a select few. While the industry generates significant revenue, workers often face stagnant wages and limited growth opportunities, fueling a cycle where profits concentrate at the top rather than empowering the broader workforce

Ancient Treasures Beeing Uncovered Waiting Excibition
TEHRAN - More than two months have passed since the recovery of 3506 Achaemenid tablets, and the time for their unveiling has not yet been determined. However, the director of the National Museum of Iran announced their imminent display in this museum soon.
It was late in September that 3506 Achaemenid tablets were returned to Iran after nearly 90 years, accompanying the President's plane.
The treasured tablets were returned home by the plane carrying President Ebrahim Raisi, who addressed the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly during his visit to New York.
These clay tablets were part of a larger shipment discovered at Persepolis in 1311, which was entrusted to the Oriental Institute of Chicago for deciphering and study.
Out of over 30,000 pieces held by the Chicago Institute for study and deciphering, five shipments have been returned to Iran in the Iranian years 1327 (1948-49), 1330 (1951-52), 1383 (2004-05), 1398 (2019-2020), and 1402 (2023-24), ISNA reported.
Yet, portions of these tablets still remain at the institute. Ezzatollah Zarghami, the Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts, had previously mentioned the process of returning the remaining tablets, stating that the groundwork for their return has been laid out. “According to an agreement made by the Americans, our experts will go to that country to verify the remaining tablets, after which they will gradually be returned to Iran.”
However, the fifth shipment, arriving in Iran on September 21 this year, consisted of 836 small tablets in Aramaic script and 2670 large tablets in Elamite script. They were shipped in nine boxes each weighing 75 kg. They were ultimately delivered to the National Museum of Iran.
It was planned that after quarantine, inspection, and study, some of these tablets would be put on display. Jebrael Nokandeh, the director of the National Museum of Iran, responding to ISNA regarding the timing of their display, stated: “It will be showcased soon.”.
He had previously mentioned the possibility of showcasing the Achaemenid tablets during Research Week (Dec. 16 to 20), but upon ISNA's follow-up, he responded: "The time for display (of the fifth shipment of recovered Achaemenid tablets) is approaching."
Studies conducted thus far on the Achaemenid clay tablets indicate that their content encompasses the administration and upper echelons of society during that historical period.
Archaeologists affiliated with the University of Chicago discovered the tablets in the 1930s while excavating in Persepolis, the ceremonial capital of the Persian Empire. However, the institute has resumed work in collaboration with colleagues in Iran, and the return of the tablets is part of a broadening of contacts between scholars in the two countries, said Gil Stein, director of the Oriental Institute at the University of Chicago.
They are very important sources of information revealing economic, social, and religious data about the Achaemenid Empire (550-330 BC) and the larger Near Eastern region in the fifth century BC.
Persepolis, locally known as Takht-e Jamshid, was the ceremonial capital of the Achaemenid Empire. It ranks among the archaeological sites, that have no equivalent, considering its unique architecture, urban planning, construction technology, and art.
Narratives say that Persepolis was burnt by Alexander the Great in 330 BC apparently as revenge against the Persians because it seems the Persian King Xerxes had burnt the Greek City of Athens around 150 years earlier. It was the largest and most durable empire of its time, stretching from Ethiopia, through Egypt, to Greece, Anatolia (modern Turkey), Central Asia, and India at its height.

As the no. 1 argentumblr user, any tips for someone visiting argentina for the first time?
Love your blog btw
i think i'm nowhere near the top of argentumblr users, but i'm incredibly flattered to be top dog in your heart 💙
and yes, of course, lemme give you some tips! (warning: most of them will probably be food based lmao)
ok, i wouldn't be a good argentine if my first instruction wasn't GO TRY SOME DULCE DE LECHE. seriously, it's the rite of passage, you need to try this sweet caramel-like treat. you can buy it in pots to eat with a spoon if you're feeling extra hedonistic, but if not you can find it in almost every single pastry and cake here, it's a classic.
kinda tied to that last one, you should definitely try an alfajor (especially an alfajor de dulce de leche!). it's kinda like a cookie sandwich type of deal, usually with DDL as the filling.
speaking of food, be aware that your eating habits will probably have a bit of a change of schedule (if you're not latino, that is). we argentines have dinner very late (by usamerican standards), anywhere between 8:30 to 10 or even later. that's why you'll find that most restaurants are open till late at night, usually past midnight on weekends!
'but if i don't have dinner at 6pm i'm gonna starve!' NO because at 5-6pm you'll be having the MERIENDA. that's like an 'afternoon tea' kind of meal, usually involving a coffee or some beverage of your choice and a little something to eat, like pastries, cake, or even grilled sandwiches if you're in the mood for something savory. cafés are booming during those hours, so def something you need to experience if it's not what you're used to in your culture!
enough about eating, and more about travelling. no idea where you're planning to go, but there's something beautiful to see everywhere you go in this country. from the incredible waterfalls of iguazú near the border with paraguay and brazil, to my favorite part of the country, the gorgeous landscapes of the south (snowy peaks during winter, the most breathtaking views during summer), to the bustling city of buenos aires, there's always something to see or do!
buenos aires is an amazing city, and definitely one that never sleeps--literally! if you're into nightlife, be aware that people here don't go to the clubs until about 1-2am (you pregame at someone's house, or at a bar, of course!), and don't leave before 6, 7, even 8am!
just have fun! maybe try to learn a little bit of spanish, if you don't know the language? don't worry if you're not perfect, or even good: just throw in some 'messi's in there and everyone will want to adopt you and make you feel at home!
hope i've tempted you to come and visit, son todos bienvenidos!
#jules vonlipvig minister of tourism#thanks for letting me gush about my country (mostly food lmao we all love food) it wa snice#and thank you for the compliment :)#juli answers#argentina

Well, I couldn’t find the exact webpage in op’s post, (maybe it’s gone through some changes?) but I did find a version featuring this paragraph under the “About us” page of this website which as you can see is no longer available. However, using the Wayback machine, we can see a version that was previously accessible sometime before March 8, 2024 that does include some notable changes to the text.
I also found the exact same paragraph here under “read more” and an earlier version of the link same page from October 2020. At first, I thought, since the link on the Devex page leads to the 1st site, it’s simply a snapshot of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
Then I found the same paragraph here in a tourism ad by Mohammad Abuhayya from 2019. (click on the “read sample” button)
So is everybody and their grandma using these same exact words?
got a new one for you jumblr
Let me guess, the Paleolithic period was named after Palestine too. 🙄🙄🙄
#history erasure#Some of this wording looks suspiciously similar to a watered down version of an old Palestinian tourism pdf by Dr. Hamdan Taha#you should know that Dr. Hamdan Taha was the former deputy minister of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities#This is just a personal feeling but you know how these Gaza scams on tumblr all suspiciously have similar wording?#Like they’re copied and pasted and they make you go “Hmm. Where have I read it before?”

The Rwenzori Marathon: A Journey Beyond the Race
Over the weekend, I embarked on a journey that was as much about self-discovery as it was about exploring one of Uganda’s hidden gems—Kasese. This adventure was a birthday gift from a dear friend, Michelle Mboha, whose kindness and thoughtfulness I’ll forever be grateful for. Kasese, nestled in the shadows of the majestic Rwenzori Mountains, is a place that invites you to explore its rich…

🏛️ Supreme Court Rejects Challenge to UGC-NET Exam Cancellation Due to Paper Leak Allegations
On Monday, the Supreme Court dismissed a petition contesting the government's decision to cancel the UGC-NET examination following allegations of a question paper leak. The court stated that intervening at this stage would create disorder and uncertainty, stressing the importance of stability for the students who are set to take the exam.
⚖️ The bench, led by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, along with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, noted that the government has rescheduled the exam for 21 August, as reported by PTI.
Chief Justice Chandrachud remarked, "Considering the petition at this point would only exacerbate uncertainty and lead to complete disorder," underlining the government's need to exercise greater caution in light of previous examination scandals such as the NEET-UG issue.
📜 Earlier, the Supreme Court had dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by a solicitor on the same matter, pointing out that it had not been initiated by the affected candidates themselves. The CJI stated, "Why are you (solicitor) approaching us? Let the students come forward themselves," making it clear that the court was not offering an opinion on the case's merits.
📰 The original petition challenged the Union Education Ministry and National Testing Agency's decision to annul the UGC-NET exam, a decision taken due to concerns that the exam's integrity had been compromised. On 19 June, the ministry cancelled the exam and referred the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for further inquiry.

Former French Prime Minister: We Need To Replace Confrontation And Conflict With Peace
— Su Yaxuan and Wang Zixuan | July 06, 2024

"Because of the insecurity of the world, the movement of 'derisking' might continue. One of the important factors we should have in mind is the fact that the political input may create a situation, not only of tension, but of partition of globalization," former French prime minister Dominique De Villepin told the Global Times at a press conference. We hope to live in a "more stable and secure world," he said.
The opening ceremony of the 12th World Peace Forum (WPF) was held at Tsinghua University on Saturday. The theme of this year's WPF is "Improving Global Security Governance: Justice, Unity, and Cooperation."
"One of the biggest difficulties for the world today is to show that there is an alternative to confrontation. This has to be shown concerning peace," De Villepin said.
He noted that all the crises facing the world today are deadly. If wars continue to escalate, they could become global wars, which could bring destructive risks to the entire planet. The urgent task is to resolve, predict, and control various crises, such as the Ukraine crisis, the Gaza crisis, and so on. He urged at the opening ceremony to maintain our reputation by avoiding double standards in dealing with the Gaza crisis.
In addition to "Peace," another word frequently referenced by De Villepin is "cooperation." When asked about the "overcapacity" issue and current trade protectionism in Europe, the former French leader called for a win-win situation through cooperation between countries. He noted that we should work together and try again to set new situation in which we will show the possibility of finding solutions.
"There is a strong leadership that China has on some technologies like electric cars and solar panels. They are more technically advanced and they are cheaper in most of the time. And that explains why they are so competitive and why they create fear. That's why we should try to find the best way for everybody to get benefits from these new trends," he added.
Recently, during the visit of Chinese leaders to France, it was announced that China has decided to extend visa exemption entry for citizens from more countries, including France, on short-term visits to China until the end of 2025, which is a new effort by China to further open-up and strengthen cooperation with other countries.
Regarding the visa-free policy, the former French prime minister said: "I believe that encouraging tourism and encouraging foreign students to go and visit another country is something decisive. In Europe, we've been testing what are the policy that have been working the best in the last years, and I think this is the key for tomorrow."
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France and is also the China-France Year of Culture and Tourism.
He said, "when you don't know a country, of course, you have what's written in the press, but in many regards, sometimes it is not always the reality of a foreign country that is expressed. So you need to see by yourself." De Villepin stressed that this would change the global mentality and create direct links.
France was one of the first Western countries to establish diplomatic relations with China, and both countries have ancient civilizations. "We know that Europeans in China hope for peaceful relations between the two sides, and we must respond to this demand and further explore the possibilities of cooperation and success," De Villepin said.
