Happy Hifuumo Friday everyone! Today's post is a little late, but that's okay.
We're starting off with an unofficial sort of 'sequel' picture to a previous one. It feels appropriate, since I've chosen this time to go back to the same place.
Tumblr media
Though this time, I've chosen to explore more areas of it—and there are still more of them that I have not given how big it is. But next week I will be going somewhere else entirely (I'm not sure where yet though!)
Tumblr media
Specifically, I'm going on a very belated birthday lunch with my Grandma because she hadn't realized mine had passed. I asked her if she wanted to join me for one of my trips in doing so, and she said that she would do her best to keep up with me despite her age.
Tumblr media
So I want to pick somewhere nice and small-ish, so she won't be walking very much.
She's one of the few people I know IRL (Not that there are many) who even knows about these trips. She thought they were very cute and good for me.
Tumblr media
Speaking of and for those who have ever been curious about it; it seems like I walk roughly 3 miles on my trips.
Obviously that isn't as good as working out, but I think going out once a week and managing that is pretty respectable, don't you think?
Tumblr media
Especially since I'm meeting so many cool people and seeing so many cool things. I'm getting better at taking photos too. When I was taking a picture of that buffalo statue someone said I should invest in getting an actual camera.
Tumblr media
I don't think I will, simply because it's one more thing that could get lost on these trips and I'm a pretty forgetful person, but it made me smile all the same.
I would rather invest in stuff to make my existing camera (my phone) better as one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maybe a selfie stick to get different angles? Maybe a tripod so I could take videos without my shaky hands ruining them? I'm not sure...
It's something for me to think about.
Tumblr media
So long as I keep having fun with this, that is all that matters. It's really helped me too, even if I still don't know what to do in social situations or around animals. Just how oppressive some of my anxieties could be stepping outside of my door are less so now.
Tumblr media
When I was eating lunch a homeless woman was really insistent on talking to and hanging out with me. On some level I appreciated the company, especially when we had talked about how different the area has become. But on other levels...
Tumblr media
Well, I declined the roll of quarters she tried to foist upon me and she muttered some stuff about Jesus & Armageddon and how I shouldn't trust anyone and how I would definitely need those quarters more than her 'sometime soon'.
She also tried to give me alcohol.
Tumblr media
I kept my mouth shut considering who I am but ultimately it was still a good time, even if a mildly uncomfortable one near the end.
Ending the day with some fish and chips was still really nice though.
I love you all, I hope you have a great day/night!
Tumblr media
As an aside, this is the only Jesus I recognize.
Iesua Nazarenus
She is from the fangame 'The Last Comer' and she has a really kick-ass theme called 'Mankind Salvation Plan ~ The Greatest Salvation'. It's a good game with a good representation of Jesus. You should check it out!

not in canon but there was an incredibly popular touhou fangame (from, in fact, about a decade ago) called the last comer which was about averting the biblical apocalypse and the final boss was, in fact, jesus christ (or iesua nazarenus). you also fight satan in it

I wish ZUN would take inspiration from Abrahamic religions again, as he did with the characters of Sariel or Mai in the past. I know it goes against the title of the series, but it would be refreshing, and I would love to see the result. I love the fangame The Last Comer for this reason, but I would prefer to have an official game, which would be way more popular in the fandom.

Well this is a bit of a surprise!
Without much word ido has released a new game called トライフォーカサー ~ Outside the Traditional World. , that being a StB/DS styled game featuring characters from a majority of releases ido as made such as The Last Comer, Mystical Power Plant, Riverbed Soul Saver and Book of Star Mythology.
Not much to say other than there are over 100 spell cards featured, three playable characters in Aya Shameimaru, Hatate Himekaidou and a secret third character (ain’t much of one though especially since she’s unlocked at 4-9) and as of course tracks composed by Wanwan.
You can download the game from the link above which offers links to download it from Axfc or Fast Uploader.
Real nifty that this is now an actual thing. Perhaps we might start to see more collections like this in the future?
On an unrelated topic also it appears there was also a popularity vote for all the characters that have appeared in the ido games and the top 5 characters were
Fuma Mishandra
Tenmu Suitokuin
Nezu Akitsu
Yamatoyo no Momohime
Tobiko Takatou
Interesting this happened cause I got not even a word about it.

Have you ever played/read about the fangames by Team Kaisendo, such as The Last Comer, Mystical Power Plant, etc? There's some crazy interesting cultural inspirations I'm sure you'd enjoy.
The Last Comer feels very low effort in terms of references compared to official Touhou games, it’s as if the bosses in UFO were Gautama and Maitreya, or as if Kanako was based on Amaterasu. Imo the natural picks for the inspiration for a Touhou christianity fangame would be Chinese or Mongolian nestorians, the largely christian Japanese peasant rebellions, or perhaps even a nod to manicheism (I mean, they recognized Jesus as a prophet, and in a way due to having a similar stance on polytheism as buddhism it’d arguably be the most suitable stand-in for christianity in Touhou, which could bring in most of the imagery [crosses, Jesus, bishop tiaras] without going against ZUN’s declaration that monotheism wouldn’t fit the setting). Also given the history between the various religions present in central asia in the early middle ages, hypothetical nestorian/manichean characters would have a lot of room for funny interactions with Parsee and Seiga. Additionally, not having the character based on the Magi be explicitly zoroastrian is disappointing, that’s quite literally what this word meant in original historical context and it feels like the exact kind of reference the original games would make..Hollow Song of Birds seems fun in this department though.

Riverbed Soul Saver playthrough! With pointless commentary! I decided to do another full playthrough even though it's a hassle and stuff. But I'm not making it a habit. It took longer than I thought to complete. I had to redo the playthrough because the frame rate made it unusable as a video. >< Riverbed Soul Saver is not really optimized. It doesn't like to run nicely. It's hard on your processor. It's not human. It doesn't feel pain. It can't re reasoned with! I have the effect cut on 3. If you put it on 4 it removed the background. But then you are just playing against a black screen. That's no fun. Or very pretty. o.o I'm actually surprised it runs as well as it does for me. There's some lag. But it's playable. I actually don't have a ton of problems with this or the other two games in the series (The Last Comer, Mystical Power Plant). I can't say the same for Marine Benefit. This is a Touhou fan game. But it's really good and a lot of fun. I'm using Futo B. That's my favorite shot type. You get Tojiko to help you out. When you hold the button down she'll stay there and fire while you move around. She fires a narrow shot of arrows straight forward. But you can position her in a handy spot and it's helpful. I wanted better quality. But I didn't want gigantic file sizes. https://youtu.be/NbUlQa6qqbw Riverbed Soul Saver (Futo B normal) Part 1 https://youtu.be/tSodSbqcYdg Riverbed Soul Saver (Futo B normal) Part 2 https://youtu.be/cQlFoK3qrPQ Riverbed Soul Saver (Futo B normal) Part 3 https://youtu.be/mCYW5Gy-nEc Riverbed Soul Saver (Futo B normal) Part 4 https://youtu.be/V7wfYLUV5xA Riverbed Soul Saver (Futo B normal) Part 5 https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLgyeI3I0Bx5xmZ72saXvwX4u0XaIq9sC5Riverbed Soul Saver (Futo B normal) playlist

EUB Devlog - Introduction
Welcome! My name is Eric “ExPorygon” Oswald, and I am the director and lead programmer of 東方逆妙乱 ~ Ephemeral Unnatural Balance as well as the founder of Ephemeral Entertainment. I’d like to personally thank you for joining me on this exploration of the development of EUB.
So let’s not waste any time! Ephemeral Unnatural Balance began its life sometime during 2012 (it’s hard to remember exactly when). I had recently joined the Walfas Station Wagon skype group and had made a number of friends, including Sturmgeschuts, a fanfiction writer. I don’t really remember how it came up, but we were talking about overlooked characters in the Touhou Project series, especially the ones that only appeared as midbosses. We basically thought, “What if there was a game that starred all of those characters?” That’s how the idea of EUB came to be. Sturm would write the story and I would program the game.
While I was still developing another game, the Touhou-Mario crossover, Kingdom of Mushrooms, my will to continue it was on the the decline. The game was…weird to say the least. Honestly, the reason I started that project was partly due to my extreme enthusiasm for making danmaku patterns at the time, as I had recently learned how to program with Danmakufu. I longed to explore what sort of danmaku patterns that characters outside of Touhou would use. This is why I made the Doopliss halloween script and I kind of wish I had just stopped there. What I really mean is, I wish I had simply made standalone boss fights of the characters I wanted to do, instead of making a full game complete with a story. And the story is where the game kind of falls into the weirdness. As someone who usually finds crossover stories to be jarring, weird, and sometimes cringy, I don’t know why I decided to try and make one myself. The time-saving decision to make all of the players have the same dialogue wasn’t helping matters. I still think the story has a few redeeming qualities, like the Bowser dialogue and my plan for Doopliss, but it’s still pretty strange. By 2012-2013, I had begun to realize that the game would at best be seen as a weird meme game among the community, even if it was super well designed (and it wasn’t). I was longing to make a “real” fan game, one that could proudly stand alongside the likes of Concealed the Conclusion and the recently-released The Last Comer. The idea for EUB came along at the perfect time and even though I said that I would finish KoM eventually, I think I knew all along that that really wasn’t likely to happen.
So we hit the ground running with EUB. I started designing the players and Sturm began writing the story. To fit with the theme, we decided to make the incident about a power reversal spell that would be unleashed upon Gensokyo. Traditionally powerful characters would become weak and vice versa. The name, Ephemeral Unnatural Balance was chosen by Sturm to represent the game, as it’s about a short-lived, unusual balance of power brought about by the spell. Here is one of the earliest mock-covers for the game, made by Kappatalist (uploaded by Sturm).
Unfortunately, we couldn’t have known at the time that Double Dealing Character would ultimately beat us to the theme of flipping the status quo on its head. Luckily, there were enough key differences between the two games that it ultimately did not matter much (not to mention a difference of 5 years in release). For example, Seija was aiming to overthrow society but was stopped before she could. In EUB, the upheaval has already started, and the effects are evident by the power and demeanor of the encountered characters.
By late 2013, Sturm had already completed the entire script for the game. I was blown away by it! More than anything, the script signaled to me that this is really happening, that EUB was going to be the Touhou fan project that I had dreamed it of being! More motivated than ever, I set out to making music and starting the actual design of the stages and bosses!
That’s all I’ll cover for now, the next devlog will continue with the development of Stage 1. Thank you for reading and we’ll see you next time!
