Yusheng (鱼生) is a customary Lunar New Year dish, traditionally served on the 7th day of Chinese New Year, known locally in Singapore as Renri (人日). Renri means “every man’s birthday” with people becoming a year older on this day. In the past, yusheng was only eaten on renri, however these days it is normal for a family to eat yusheng numerous times throughout the New Year period and it is usually served at the start of every meal.
Tumblr media
As the Chinese meaning of yusheng represents raw fish, salmon is the focal point of the dish and is served uncooked and cold alongside other ingredients. Arranged on a very large circular plate, an important feature of the dish, Yusheng (鱼生) is one of the most colourful cuisines of all Chinese New Year food. It is made up of shredded carrot, green and white shredded radish, pickled ginger, crushed peanuts, pomelo, cinnamon, pepper, golden pillow crackers and is accompanied by a variety of condiments.
Tumblr media
The present Qi Cai Yu Sheng (七彩鱼生) or seven-coloured raw fish salad was developed by four master chefs from Singapore in the 1960s who were inspired by the Cantonese tradition of consuming raw fish strips during Chinese New Year. The chefs added new ingredients and entwined symbolic significance into the dish and presentation. Yusheng has become iconic in Singapore remaining unchanged for 5 decades, recently gaining popularity in Malaysia and other Chinese communities. For modern day convenience, many supermarkets have introduced ready-made yusheng kits to be brought home for consumption that strictly maintain the traditional ingredients.

@bladekindeyewear asked: Quote asker: "Feferi is the one who set up the dreambubbles" -- Mild correction there, what she said was, "CC: Soon I will go to sleep and speak to t)(e gods. CC: I will convince t)(em to establis)( a series of stable dream bubbles, w)(ere we can meet in our sleep!" Emphasis on "stable" and "meet" - the dead might end up in the dream bubbles regardless for all we know, from what Aradia said, but their respective bubbles likely wouldn't have INTERSECTED as frequently without Feferi's request.
I think the key word here is stable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We've occasionally seen more fluid, abstract dreamscapes, such as WV's shared dream with Vriska, or Jade's chaotic post-death nap. These, I think, are the Dream Bubbles as they naturally occur, without the Horrorterrors keeping them coherent. They're unstable, liable to mutate or collapse without warning.
The Bubbles might always have existed - but, thanks to Feferi, they're solid now, and can be used as a medium for consistent communication.

Do you think that by mocking the folly of the former Elven Oracle for not realizing a storm would be her downfall, Adaine Abernant made her first prediction.

from behind, against the glass, in front of the plants, beneath the cosmos, no lube, no protection, all night all day, from the kitchen floor to bathroom counter, from dining table to church, while i gasp for air and scream the lord’s prayer, he can top me.

Renri (人日) is the 7th day of Zhengyue (正月), the first month in the traditional Chinese calendar. According to Chinese customs, Renri was the day human beings were created. It is celebrated not only in China, but also in the surrounding region influenced by Chinese culture. In Chinese mythology, Nuwa (女娲) was the goddess who created the world. She created the animals on different days, and human beings on the seventh day after the creation of the world. And the seventh day of Zhengyue is viewed as the common "birthday" of all human beings.

The custom of having Yusheng (鱼生) on the seventh day of the Chinese New Year, also known as Renri (人日), was brought to Singapore with the migration of Cantonese and Teochew people from China in the 19th century. It is believed that the Chinese from Jiangmen, Guangdong province, were the first to start selling the dish in Singapore, which comprised raw fish slices tossed with ginger slices, spring onion, coriander, sesame seeds, lime juice and oil.
Tumblr media
Today’s ritual of eating yusheng or Prosperity Toss during Chinese New Year involves all the people at the table tossing the salad and uttering auspicious phrases. The dish is deemed auspicious because of the homonymic meanings behind its ingredients, which suggest blessings and good fortune for the new year: yu is a homonym for “fish” and “abundance”, while sheng means both “raw” and “life”. Together, yusheng implies “abundance of wealth and long life”. In the Cantonese dialect, the dish is known as Lohei (捞起), where lo implies “tossing up good fortune” and hei means “to rise”, again a reference to a prosperous business and thus its popularity with businessmen during the new year celebrations.

im so sorry but i have to ask are Rill and Thresher supposed to make me think season 0 kaiba and yugi I think it's the green hair that does it
the primary inspiration for Rill is absolutely S0 Kaiba and I'm not exactly being subtle about it! However, Thresher is not Yugi in any way whatsoever.
Thresher is based on a character concept I wanted to follow through on since 2019 before I ever watched Yugioh and doesn't really have an existing character in other media I can really point to as a comparison point or specific point of inspiration. I actually almost scrapped their concept entirely because when Splat 3 came by and had Shiver be a shark themed Octoling I was like FUCK they got to it first!!! People are gonna think I'm immediately ripping off a canon character!! But I got over it because who gives a shit, I was here first, and it's not actually very similar to what I was wanting to do anyways
Then about a year after I actually made Thresher into a proper character I caved to my dark desires of "I want to play with that cabbage freak in this other setting and see what he mutates into" and the only character I had lying around to throw him at happened to be Thresher.
The biggest inspiration for how Thresher deals with Rill has been a hawk I saw once sitting on a house roof ignoring a tiny ass songbird that was repeatedly dive-bombing it and bouncing off of it without doing any visible damage. I'm being completely serious this was the funniest thing I've ever seen
Anyways point is I think the biggest trap people fall into with these 2 is that they see a Kaiba and assume that there's going to be a Yugi somewhere to match when in reality I made these two completely independently of each other whoops
