The Metal Maniacs & Their Dog.
I might expound on this more later, but I just had a thought. What if one day while the Metal Maniacs were searching the junkyard for parts, they found a dog amongst the piles of “trash?”
———
Stray
Monkey was on his third set of bumpers this month. He had the worst luck when it came to his car. Usually, after a fender bender, he’d reshape the metal to the frame and call it a day, but lately the damage had been so bad that he couldn’t just brush it off as ‘adding character.’
That’s why he was at the junkyard. Well… that and Porkchop had been pestering him about getting some spare spark plugs for Old Smokey.
He was about elbow deep in a pile of trashed parts when he felt something poke at his back. He’d been tossing things behind him to make more room for his digging, so at first he thought it was something that had just slid back down the pile. But then it happened again…and again.
With a sigh, Monkey pulled his arms out from the pile and turned around to see who was bothering him. The who actually turned out to be a rather large and mangy looking dog. A Rottweiler with no tags and a comically large piece of metal hanging out of his mouth. Big enough to be Monkey’s new bumper actually.
The mechanic brushed his hands off on his shirt, which was also covered in grime from digging through heaps of garbage for the last two hours, and kneeled down next to the dog.
“Uh…nice dog?” Monkey called to it, uneasiness clear in his voice as he beckoned the mutt closer. “…drop it?” Another less than confident command, but the dog followed it without hesitation, barking in satisfaction as it did.
Monkey carefully picked up the near perfect bumper and walked it over to his car. The replacement bumper had been the last thing he’d been looking for so all he needed to do now was load up his finds and leave. There was only one problem. When Monkey popped his trunk and tossed the bumper in, the dog followed it.
“Hey!” Monkey exclaimed. “Get out!”
The dog did not. Instead, he paced around for a second or two, before plopping down and resting his head on the bumper. He did not seem interested in leaving. Not even when Money tried to coax him out with some left over chicken bones he’d had from lunch.
For a while, Monkey stared at the open trunk with the dog lying happily inside. With a groan, he reached up and closed the hatch and walked around to the drivers side door.
“Tork’s gonna kill me. How am I going to explain this? Hey guys- this dog brought me a bumper and then wouldn’t leave me alone, so let’s give a warm welcome to the newest member of the Metal Maniacs??” Monkey was grumbling. He did that when he was nervous. He didn’t stop grumbling until he reached the garage where the Maniacs hung out. Of course, everyone was there when he pulled up.
As soon as he popped the trunk, the dog came happily bounding out and began exploring the garage, sniffing everything in sight, including the people.
“What the hell, Monkey?!” Wylde was the first to say something about their uninvited visitor, despite kneeling down to pet the dog. The dog immediately lunged to lick at his face, and Monkey though for sure that Wylde would try and throw the mutt off of him, but despite his tense words, the driver looked like he was fighting back a smile.
“He hopped in and wouldn’t get out!” Monkey tried to explain, but by the looks of it, Wylde wasn’t listening anymore.
That was when Porkchop and Taro began to meander over to see what all the commotion was about.
“You brought back a dog?” Taro questioned, his eyes flicking between the hound and Monkey for a moment. He looked unimpressed, but all things considered, that was how Taro usually looked.
“I didn’t mean to he just-” Monkey was interrupted by Porkchop as the big guy leaned down next to Wylde and was the dog’s next victim. The mutt jumped up and put his paws on Porkchop’s shoulders before viciously licking him all over his face.
Porkchop bellowed with laughter as he tried to move his face away to speak.
“He reminds me of Baby.” Porkchop said through fits of laughter. Baby was Porkchop’s childhood guard dog, and now that Monkey was really looking at him, he did sort of resemble the pictures Porkchop had shown him.
“Huh, yeah. I guess he does.” Monkey agreed quietly.
Everyone was so caught up with the dog that they almost missed Tork finally approaching the group. He didn’t look too happy, but like Taro, that was par for the course.
“Thought we’d agreed about not taking in anymore strays.” His voice rang out through the garage as he crossed his arms over his chest and looked down at the mutt. The dog was still having the time of his life, alternating between Wylde and Porkchop. “Get rid of it.” He said, fixing Monkey with a look that had the mechanic shrinking in his boots.
“I’ve tried. He just won’t leave!” Monkey tried to explain, but then, against all odds, Wylde jumped in to help.
“Maybe he doesn’t have anywhere else to go.” Just like I didn’t. He wouldn’t say it. Even if he laid awake at night thinking about how having the Metal Maniacs had likely saved his life. How Tork taking him in when his own brother’s actions, or rather inactions, had landed him behind bars for two years, had comforted him more than he’d ever let on. He was a stray once too. One that bit. They’d let him stay.
“I said no.” Tork reiterated, frowning down at Wylde. Wylde frowned right back until Porkchop spoke up.
“He’d make a good guard dog.” He looked scary enough to spook anyone dumb enough to steal from the Metal Mainacs. Plus it would be like having a free alarm system that you could play fetch with.
“I’ll help train it. Besides we were all strays once.” Taro chimed in, but Tork stayed silent. You could hear a pin drop if it weren’t for the dogs loud, excited panting.
Their leader pursed his lips as he surveyed the group. His strays. His people.
With a frown and a sigh he rolled his eyes and finally relented.
“Fine, but the first time that dog barks while I’m tryna sleep, it’s back to the junkyard, understood?” Tork said sternly, but the dog’s tail stayed firmly wagging behind him.
They ended up naming him Bumper, for obvious reasons. He fit in well with the group. He was protective, sweet, and made a good heated blanket when winter rolled around. He even grew on Tork eventually.
By the end of his first year with the Maniacs, Taro had him fully trained to help out around the garage. Needed something that wasn’t within arms reach? Just ask Bumper to fetch it. People parking too close to their cars at a meet? Bumpers got it covered with a few vicious sounding barks and growls. He even helps Porkchop through storms, curling up next to the big guy whenever he hears one rolling in.
In fact, he helps out all the Metal Maniacs when it comes to their mental health. All in all, Bumper ends up being a great addition to their gang of strays.

Oooh, can you do either 23 or 29 for the soulmate AU asks? Any pairing you want.
This is a difficult choice, because this are both great topics that I would really like to explore upon. I have been thinking about number 29 lately, so I'll go with that!
29. The one where your soulmate's ghost haunts you when they die.
------------
- The concept of your soulmate's ghost haunting their other half is a highly debated topic. As some truly believe in it, while others are skeptical and regard it as a myth. Generally, everyone hopes to not be haunted by the one they were supposed to be with, who would want that even?
- All of the original founding members of BF5 (Barring Sage) all die a year before the events of the first season in various different ways. Vert dies in a car race, Agura dies in an animal related incident, Zoom dies during his time running from the Order, Stanford dies from poisoning, and Sherman & Spinner die from electrocution.
- Unfortunately, they're one of the ghosts that gain amnesia upon death, unknowing of their previous life and why they are like this now. Too bad all they have company is this chamber that holds an red being inside.
- The Red Sentients are still conscious within their frozen state, and for some reason start seeing a floating figure near their chambers.
- Once they are released, the Red Sentients are initially confused and slightly hostile to the vapor like beings that followed a distance away but would disappear afterwards. They merely thought it was a malfunction within their systems and tried to fix it. However, the intruders still did not disappear.
- BF5 still don't have their memories and are following RS5 due to being drawn to them for some reason.
- Having enough of this mystery, RS5 decides to confront these beings by themselves, as they can only see one (or two in Krylox's case) of them. However, the confrontation really didn't end well enough for both parties, eventually escalating to the Reds to try and ignore BF5's existence, hoping that they would just end up leaving, but they didn't.
- Eventually, they do end up communicating more due to curiousity and do eventually bond to the point that RS5 does agree to try and figure out what BF5 are and why are they stuck in this situation.
- Meanwhile, Jack Wheeler is the one who finds Sage (He doesn't have the tracking device in this AU), and is pretty excited to come back to Earth for his family...Until he receives the news that is.
Bonus: (Wanted to add Acceleracers to the mix)
- BF5! Jack and Acceleracers! Jack are either siblings or twins that were close to one another to the point that they sometimes visited each other when they had the chance. BF5! Vert and Acceleracers! Vert grew up to the point of being like brothers.
- Unfortunately, when his brother suddenly disappeared and his wife's deteriorating mental health, Acceleracers! Jack did try to take in his nephew, but was too late and BF5! Vert got picked up by his mother's brother instead. Acceleracers! Jack and Vert didn't get to see him again until they were notified of his death.
- Tezla is getting haunted by Gelorum's Ghost.
- Tork is unsure whether or not if he's being haunted by Tone's Ghost, which he really hope he isn't.

Acceleracers HCs! What Element Would They Bend?
I just finished the Avatar Live Action and now I have brain rot about these movies AND the original ATLA show.
———
Teku
(Nolo Pasaro, Vert Wheeler, Shirako Takamoto, Kurt Wylde, Karma Eiss)
Metal Maniacs
(Taro Kitano, Tork Maddox, Monkey McClurg, Porkchop RIggs, Markie Wylde)
+Bonus Round
(Brian Kadeem & Banjee Castillo)
———
Teku
Nolo Pasaro - Okay, when I rewatched the Acelleracers recently, I literally had to look up the voice actor for Nolo because I genuinely thought it was Dante Basco (Zuko) for a second. They sound so similar. Plus Nolo’s firey personality and his pride really make me think he’d be a Firebender. “Tork! I challenge you to an Agni Kai!”
Vert Wheeler - I feel like I don't need to say it, but I’m gonna… Vert’s a Waterbender! Water is the element of change and Vert is all about adapting to the different tracks. He’s also a surfer- so… yeah I feel like this one is pretty self-explanatory. I swear this dude would become one with the ocean if it was possible. I can’t get the image of him making a surf board out of ice and just using the full moon to make the biggest waves possible for himself.
Shirako Takamoto - Shirako is so chill all the time I can’t help but see him as an Airbender. I also feel like he’d use his bending in the most creative and chaotic ways possible like manipulating the air around his speakers to make them sound louder or clearer. Not to mention that he’d use his bending to mildly annoy the Metal Maniacs. Think blowing their tools just slightly out of reach or speeding by them on an air scooter.
Kurt Wylde - Kurt has such strong Firebending vibes that it literally inspired this post lol. He just seems like such a hothead. He’s got the sass and air of superiority that comes with most Firebenders. It doesn't help that he and Mark have a sibling rivalry that reminds me of Zuko & Azula. Kurt also seems like he’d be able to manipulate lightning, and I’m not just saying that cause he looks like Mako.
Karma Eiss - Karma also gives off Firebending vibes. Her drive for perfection fits the precision a Firebender needs in order to safely manipulate their element. One wrong move and it could mean trouble. Karma would have her element fully mastered. She would have the wisdom to take skills from other bending disciplines and apply them to her own style. She can bend both fire and lightning, and I feel like she’d be skilled enough to turn up the heat for those blue flames!
———
Metal Maniacs
Taro Kitano - Oh, look at that. Another Firebender. I mean come on! He’s the leader of the Scorchers in World Race. His car has a classic flame paint job!! The Fire Nation was literally modeled after Imperial Japan!! There are so many connections I could make here, but what really convinces me is his overall attitude. He follows a strict honor code, and just like Karma, he’s got the control a Firebender needs to be successful. I feel like he’d make a great Lavabender too.
Tork Maddox - I’m getting strong Earthbender vibes from Tork. He’s built as sturdy as a rock, and his personality is just as solid. He stands his ground a lot in the Acceleracer movies, and although he’s got some fire behind his eyes, it’s usually only in response to being antagonized by one of the other racers. He’s the very foundation of the Metal Maniacs and like any good Earthbender, he seems to listen before he reacts. I also love the idea of Tork being a Metalbender.
Monkey McClurg - Monkey strikes me as a Nonbender, but if I had to give him an element, he would be an Earthbender. Mainly because I feel like he could make a great Metalbender. That being said, at my core, I really think he would end up not being able to bend, but he would make up for it by being an extremely creative inventor. He just reminds me of Sokka so much with how resourceful he is.
Porkchop Riggs - Porkchop is a full on Earthbender, baby! In fact, If Monkey ended up not being able to bend, he’d be who Monkey goes to for all of his Metalbending needs. He is one with the dirt. Especially since he's terrified of water.
Markie Wylde - Markie is 100% a Firebender as well. Like his older brother, he’s hot-headed and cocky. He gives off those Book One Zuko vibes in most of the Acceleracer movies. I don’t think he’d have the precision to be able to produce blue flames, but I do feel like he could pick up combustion. Could you imagine Markie with combustion tattoos up his arm instead of the stuff he's got now?
———
Bonus Round
Brian Kadeem - Okay, I wanted to put Kadeem in the Earthbender category due to Sandbending, but Kadeem’s personality SCREAMS Airbender. He’s got too many pacifistic tendencies and is just so damn loveable I can’t not associate him with Aang. Not only that but due to the scenes in World Race where his mentor comes to him in visions, I feel like he would be able to connect to the Spirit World quite easily.
Banjee Castillo - Surprisingly, I feel like Banjee would be an Airbender too. If not an Airbender, then probably an Earthbender. He’s just so quick-witted and has such a lighthearted view on life that I can't help but stick him with the Airbenders. Also, the way he teases people (like when he waves at Kurt as he passes him in World Race) reminds me of when Aang is being mischievous.

Major Unrest
Summary: After being hung up on by Kurt Wylde--one half of the conspiratorial team that managed to smuggle Vert from the Silencerz' base--Major Wheeler decides it's time to question the other drivers. They are as uncooperative as one might expect, so... with few other options, he calls in Peter Tezla to testify on the matter. Big Mistake.
Ao3: /works/40615533
-----
Tork Maddox, the patriarchal type. Dismissive and rocksteady, the “Metal Maniac” leader claimed that he didn’t interfere with the Teku’s affairs, further continuing on to state that Josef “Vert” Wheeler wasn’t one of his drivers. Therefore, he refused to speculate on the matter of Wheeler’s departure – including the involvement of his own subordinate, Mark Wylde.
Taro Kitano, the apparent second-in-command. A Japanese expatriate and driver of some renown, yet not a man of many words. Uncommunicative, Mr. Kitano admitted only to owning the car used to facilitate Josef Wheeler’s departure. Further questioning yielded nothing substantial as his answers contained fewer and fewer words in direct proportion to the length of his interrogation.
Deezel “Porkchop” Riggs, a long-haul trucker of large stature. Mr. Riggs openly expressed dissatisfaction with certain members of the Silencerz staff, including the interviewer Major Jack Wheeler. Efforts to redirect conversation resulted in further disapproval of the Major and his relationship to Josef Wheeler.
Mitchell “Monkey” McClurg, a mechanic and alleged chemical engineer. A strange man of nervous temperament. Attempts to take advantage of this character flaw were unsuccessful, exhibiting extreme loyalty to his teammates and a greater fear of Mark Wylde.
Nolo Pasaro, leader of the “Teku” street racing gang. A passionate youth. When questioned on the brawl he and Mr. Maddox initiated in the hangar, Pasaro insisted that it was normal behaviour and that they were “cool”. One of the more talkative drivers, he also confessed satisfaction regarding Josef Wheeler’s extrication.
Karma Eis, the sole female driver and the eldest member of the Teku. As collected as her surname implies, Ms. Eis consistently deflected all questioning with inquiries of her own. No progress was made.
Shirako Takamoto, the team’s chief tech enthusiast and audiophile. Due to an apparent hearing impairment, Mr. Takamoto was unresponsive to verbal questioning. An interpreter was deemed unnecessary.
— —
Interviews went nowhere. Major Wheeler’s notes were a mess. What was wrong with these people? Perhaps he was too frustrated to see how much they cared. Or, on the other hand, perhaps it was too much to expect anything from drivers who actively flaunted the law on a regular basis – from Tezla’s drivers, no less. These were the sort that his son had been fraternizing with? Jack dismissed three drivers–Shirako, Porkchop, Monkey–ushering the remaining four into a single conference room. Waiting. If they had nothing to say individually, then perhaps it was time to rally the leaders and the man responsible for bringing them together.
Peter Tezla.
A stern silence welcomed Dr. Tezla into the conference room–the sternest of which came from his once fellow associate. Interesting, he thought, interesting how Major Wheeler held him accountable for something he genuinely had little to do with. Yet, perhaps this was advantageous, surveying the pairs of watchful eyes that all followed his entrance with varying levels of interest. Truly, he’d only appraised the vehicle Taro had supplied the Wylde brothers with, but that was immaterial. They were here for a show. So, he’d supply them with one, taking his place across from Jack Wheeler at the head of the table – still standing, of course.
“I suspect I already know what this meeting entails, Major, so it would benefit us both if we forewent pleasantries,” Tezla said, gesturing to the room of indignant, uncooperative drivers – who all really had much better things to do, and so did he! Although the Silencerz tried to keep him away from the more tantalizing bits of data, the good doctor’s penance–his means of escaping real punishment–laid in cooperation with his former employment. They couldn’t keep him from everything. As he’d proven before.
What an unpleasant man to work with. Major Wheeler cleared his throat to stifle a bout of growling irritation. The day may have been long and frustrating, but he couldn’t lose his cool now. “Then I’ll assume you’re already aware that, at roughly ten-hundred hours this morning, two of your drivers left the compound with my son. Against orders.”
Tezla nodded. He was. He hadn’t been told, precisely, but it was more than evident. Vert wasn’t here. Not in the room, not in the base, not anymore. His comrades, Teku and Metal Maniac alike, weren’t talking. If anything, Tezla was impressed by their planning and ingenuity–now that it wasn’t being used to go against his orders, in any case. Rebelling against the Silencerz meant very little to Tezla, especially when it offered such a unique opportunity.
Major Wheeler asked flatly, “Would you care to explain this, doctor?”
“Gladly. Although, first I must ask you this–” The show began and all other actors were quiet. Their keen interest fueled Tezla’s flair for melodrama. Still, he only asked what everyone else was thinking: “What reason do the Silencerz have to keep Vert here and not the others? To my knowledge, all of the drivers have already given their statements.”
Ah, don’t mind the pause. Only for effect, Tezla gazed intently, brow raised and inquiring. He surveyed for a reaction, safe behind tinted lenses. Though, he also wasn’t done yet. There was yet an encore, vying for precious higher ground. “...or is it, perhaps, something more personal rather than objective?”
A stone sentinel moored before the peak, the major was unmoved. Impassable. For now. Both hands firmly planted, he warned, leaned emphatically against the conference table: “This isn’t about me, Pete. I’m only carrying out orders.”
Pete. Tezla’s expression betrayed him, forced to reign in an annoyed twitch threatening to derail his entire production. It was Peter. No, even that was wrong. His name was Tezla. Doctor Tezla. If he’d any friends, then not even they would call him by first name. Although, surely Jack already knew that.
Tezla regrouped, catty. Petty. “Yes, orders that you must have some influence over... or have you been demoted since we last worked together?”
This again. Taro shared a glance with Tork – who passed it on to Nolo and, from him, to Karma. Far beyond them to keep silent like this, but the two warring juggernauts were a spectacle all their own, cementing the shared reality that they’d done the right thing. None present had met Major Wheeler before storming the Silencerz headquarters, but so far…? The impression was lackluster. So, even if it meant relying on Tezla’s manipulative wit, well, unfortunately that was something Tezla had in abundance. It was about time he used it for the benefit of his drivers.
“I know what you’re trying to do. That doesn’t work with me, Peter. I’ve wasted enough time today.” Another warning, firm and imposing. If it wasn’t street punks testing his patience, then it was this rogue scientist. Perhaps bringing Tezla into this wasn’t the right move, after all. Exasperated with the moment, Major Wheeler privately wondered what he’d hoped to achieve by summoning him here. Painfully naive optimism. Jack straightened to his full height, shoulders back.
Staring Tezla down, he addressed the room, “So, if you aren’t going to cooperate, then I’ll have no choice but to hold everyone here until Josef Wheeler and his conspirators have been retrieved.”
( A murmur rippled from Nolo to Karma, a hushed yet incredulous ‘Josef? What’s he talking about, man?’ Vert’s name wasn’t Vert? Karma shook her head. This was news to her, too. )
Ignoring the sudden revelation among the crowd, Jack’s only focus was to enforce his posturing. One step, turning on his heel, Major Wheeler headed for the door. Enough of this. If all Tezla and his drivers wanted was to play mind games, then the best answer was to ignore them.
Or so Jack told himself.
Something of a curiosity, there was a distinction–noticed, cataloged–between ‘my son’ and ‘Josef Wheeler’. Yet, Tezla followed the major’s leave with only a slight inclination of his head. Whether his silence meant defeat or simply that he was lost in thought, Tezla allowed his former compatriot to reach the exit first. Clarification was reserved for the moment that Major Jack Wheeler had his hand on the door–and far too conversationally than could possibly be genuine.
“Ah, before you leave…” Tezla called, satisfied by the slow turn of a man begrudgingly forced to have an audience with one he most disdained. This was it. This was the grandest display Tezla’s performance had to offer and perhaps the pettiest. “I don't believe I ever offered you my condolences after your wife passed. It must have been difficult choosing your career over your grieving son.”
That was bait.
Jack knew it was bait. Even the drivers knew. For the benefit of his captive audience, Tezla finished, “–especially knowing how often you would be gone.”
Somehow, knowing that this was bait couldn’t make it matter.
It was a step too far, and it took all Major Wheeler had not to walk over and deck the smug son of a bitch standing not more than four yards away. He was better than this. He was better than Tezla. Yet, he seemed to be the only one who thought that. As if there was anyone in the room who’d jump to his defense, anyway. No, this was between him and Tezla. Tezla made it personal; Tezla was making it personal. Was that his agenda all along? There and gone in a second, an image flashed through his mind, an icy realisation. Vert, his son. One of Tezla’s drivers. What about him?
“Don’t lecture me about family, Tezla. You, of all people, should understand how important our work is,” he defended. Though, his foothold atop higher ground slipped in the face of his son’s friends. For, despite his own reservations, they were friends, he realised. Punks, yes. Yet, he’d nearly been willing to give them a chance after the races were over. Was that foolhardy of him? Duty, fatherhood, responsibility… what was the right call here? The answer, amorphous and intangible like smoke seeping through his fingers, became harder to grasp the further his thoughts wandered to his son.
“Yes, I do, and that's precisely why I chose not to start a family. I knew I would not be able to give them the love and dedication they’d deserve…” Again, Tezla called upon his audience, gesturing widely. They were more props than actors. Yet, he heard no argument from them. “And it seems to me that, in your absence, Vert has found a family entirely of his own – one that understands his particular needs.”
Far from disagreeing, Nolo piped up enthusiastically from the congregation. Whatever Tezla was playing at in the long game–somewhat beyond him–but here and now? “Yeah! Vert’s one of us and we’re a team, man. He’s like a brother, and that means he doesn’t get left behind.”
With a lone hear!, Taro offered an empty toast, having neither drink nor glass. Vert wasn’t a Metal Maniac–or even a former Scorcher–but he’d be lying if the little squirt hadn’t grown on him over the years. Though, unlike what Nolo insisted, Taro wouldn’t personally call him a brother… maybe a nephew. Or just a friend. Vert was sure something and seemingly for lack of a strong family life back home. Maybe that explained a few things–and a few more that his only living parental figure was a career military man. Truly, he and the Wylde brothers were a perfect fit for riding off together into the family-drama sunset.
Tezla waited for he and the others to finish their little rapport, poised to snipe with further commentary of his own as soon as there was a lull in the wave of driver solidarity. After all, it would be terrible if Major Wheeler had time to recover after such a rousing success.
