My true magnum opus.#I was originally going to do this gag as a 'alternate version of comic 155'#Then I realized that they have the 'Come back to Gusu with me' conversation twice. So here we are!#I did consider having WWX say 'I'm not going back to gusu with you' in the comic for the better plot accuracy.#I'm invoking the rule of silly by having Wei Wuxian read between the lines of 'Come back to Gusu with me'.#Because it does feel like a confession! It is a confession of 'I care about your safety and I worry for what may happen.'#It is also poorly articulated. You can't really blame WWX for reading into it as 'LWJ is just another person trying to control me.'#The relationship between them is not good! It is two parties who genuinely want to be closer with each other but cannot communicate it.#You can't really have what makes these two work so well as a dynamic without the past history of:#“Back then I really wanted to be your friend.” They are a *missed connection*!#WWX reaches out and LWJ rejects him. And now when LWJ reaches out it is WWX who pushes them apart.#It is a tragedy about the consequences of being out of tandem and realizing what you want far too late.#The momentum of WWX's downfall is far to fast to reverse now. george rexstrew deserves awards for many things but i have to say. edwin’s bloodcurdling scream as niko gets killed deserves a whole award unto itself. like. that scream did not feel at all like a tv show scream. to a somewhat jarring degree. and i can’t express how much I respect that

#he has a number of very convincing screams and suffering noises which I imagine was an important prerequisite for the role #but this one is just especially chilling and again. jarring. not saying that the other actors are bad or anything but no one even comes #close to competing with george and its stark in moments like this #another screaming moment that I thought he did really well in particular is far easier to gloss over and that’s #when he and charles are escaping hell and he almost gets dragged down into lust #when he’s screaming out for charles he borderline SCREECHES #throughout that arc in general it’s just incredible but yeah #I think part of what makes it so convincing is that he isn’t afraid to be high pitched and genuinely Scream rather than yell #like. he is clearly immune to being put off by ‘you scream like a girl’ rhetoric #I think a lot of male actors avoid screaming and screeching like that for that internalized reason when. if you wanna be as realistic as #possible. a scream is high pitched. if you’re scared for your fucking life it’s just involuntary #I can also see it being uncommon due to difficulties getting that sound adequately recorded but yeah anyway you get my point #tldr: george rexstrew is great at disturbingly realistic screaming and I applaud him for that #I really hope he didn’t have to retake that part too many times..#his poor throat……….#george rexstrew #edwin #edwin payne #dead boy detectives #dead boy detectives spoilers

Holy shit? Holy shit.

Gonna be completely honest, I was expecting Damen to come clean about his identity when he started saying Laurent's name after he finally got in his bed. Like ok I love these boys. Damen is smart and going to be an amazing king. But I was also 90% expecting him to finally be balls deep in this man and go: "laurent. Hey laurant. Hey yeah so, I'm an honest man. I can't continue this without informing you I killed your brother." And then I remembered people sometimes say their lover's name during sex and maybe I needed to reread a page for tone.

But now, given that ending (and a few whispers in the back of my head for awhile) did Laurent know from the beginning that Damen was the actual Damianous? Just the way he brought up his brother being killed to Damen directly felt... off the second time. Like it made sense but there was a vibe that didn't flow right. And now, his colluding with akelios, specifically a commander loyal to Damen, feels like it confirms it, even if logically that's not sound? But if that's the case, I'm going to feel robbed of the liar revealed- and honestly that might not be the worst thing. I was worried jord was going to reveal it.

There was another moment. During the kiss scene that got interrupted, laurant said they weren't friends, they were something else. And I said, "allies" and the boys said 'lovers' and 'master slave dynamics' and I said in response, 'oh yeah I forgot the point of the book'. And then laurant led an akaelion army into the not-roman equivalent of ba-sing-se. So you know. There's that.

Im also going to be completely honest I forgot most everything to do with nicase (niocase?) The regents pet other than that he exists. I don't remember how his death was Laurent's fault, but he said it was so I guess it is. I liked how he used the earring he won in the first book as a disguise and how well it worked. Did they say explicitly yet that the regent fucked laurent or are we supposed to just assume that from the everything?

I am still utterly fascinated with laurant.

I finally got ahold of a copy of Captive Prince and I was instantly rewound into my middleschool body, staying up all night to finish a book in one sitting.

#It is past three in the godamn morning which is three hours past when I try to go to sleep because I try to have a healthy sleep schedule #But goddamn is this story taking up my entire thought process at work #I'm trying to invent new rules to Kevin's ghost status to make it make sense to have him hanging around in the background #this is going too far #Too far I say #I might have to give him some form of time travel or rule about possessing a book puts you in the story #And both of those gives him far too much power do you Know how much of a chaos entity he would be with that?#Also this story is far too tight to have him hanging out #At best he could be one of the soldiers and knows from the start who Damen is and flaunts that he knows #Calling him shit like 'little princeling' when out of earshot of anyone else #The problem is if he knew about that he would also probably know about aimeric and thats not good for drama #Kevin would probably stop that betrayal from happening and that's no fun #I'm sure I'll think of something #I think I need to buy actual copies of these books to keep forever #For now I sleep I have been up too late last night and now and now I'm eepy #captive prince #prince's gambit
