Bonus internet points will be awarded to anyone who actually tries this exercise before voting.
Assume you need to get the spelling at least somewhat close, and if a character has multiple names, only one counts. Also, if a character doesn't have a canonical name, I'm sorry, but "that guy's wife" doesn't count.
For reference, if you can name the 9 members of the Fellowship, the eponymous Hobbit and his 13 dwarf buddies, 3 prominent women, and the guy who runs the Rivendell B&B, that's 27 characters right there. And you probably also know the name of a dragon.
For further reference, Tolkien Gateway has 637 (!!) pages dedicated to Third Age characters. (Don't click that link until you've voted, of course)
Edit: Your humble pollmaker gave this a try, and got as far as 73 before deciding she was too tired to keep trying to remember dwarf and Silm names. If you also want to share (and don't mind people being incredulous at your having forgot ____), pastebin allows you to paste text and share it for free. :)

"Suddenly Boromir’s breath caught, reminding him of his aching chest. Relief, pride, affection overwhelmed him. They had won! Pippin lay sleeping curled about Boromir’s horn, his chin resting on its rim, its curved end about his waist, and his arm tucked over it." ['Rapid Peril' by Carolyn Golledge. 2008]

Find it incredibly funny when people make generalizations about an entire genre of anything.
Like yes! Sometimes it has a point! There are tropes and such that are more commonly used in certain genres than others! And it is fine to be critical of things!
But when you do it as an attempt to justify why you don’t like a genre all it does is make me think that you want to be validated for not liking that genre or you have simply not stepped outside of your comfy box and tried to find something in the genre that you generalized that would knock you on your ass.
Because you would find it. It would take digging. But you would find it.
‘All romance novels be the same!’ There are tropes but are commonly used in romance yes, but I can assure you they are not all the same because they can go from demon fucking dubcon to the fluffiest soft as a cloud sugary stuff you have ever read
‘Fantasy is just Tolkien rip offs!’ Please go read The Poppy War. Please. Not all fantasy has elves or dwarves. ‘I was talking about high fantasy!’ Buddy any high fantasy novel that isn’t based on western culture is going to have some stark differences to Tolkien and you don’t need elves or hobbits for high fantasy. Pls diversify your book stack.
(Also if you insist on high fantasy at least having dwarves, Sir Terry Prachett would like a word his books are great and I need to reread them.)
Anyway. That’s my bitchy post for today. Good bye.

‘Rings Of Power’ Season 2 To Continue Production Despite Writers’ Strike
Amazon‘s Lord Of The Rings sequence, The Rings Of Power, will proceed filming regardless of the continuing writers’ strike. Executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay won’t be current on set. The present reportedly has simply 19 days left of filming, in response to Variety, nevertheless Payne, McKay and different writer-producers are prohibited from collaborating in any writing-based…

Oh yes! An art of her that's doesn't have the sad, weak, quiet, "dead mom form an award winning children's book" look. I love it.

[Míriel] was a Ñoldorin Elda of slender and graceful form, and of gentle disposition, though as was later discovered in matters far more grave, she could show an ultimate obstinacy that counsel or command would only make more obdurate. - The Peoples of Middle-Earth, "The Shibboleth of Fëanor"

Ok y'all, if EVER there is a reason to get a Shakespearean actor to do Tolkien, Charles Edwards demonstrates it in this very under-discussed little monologue. (I know, it's not the world's greatest screen record. So sue me, I tried.)
It's not even 30 seconds, but it's a masterclass in how to go zero to sixty in a quarter mile. Even the writing itself is reminiscent of classic Shakespearean monologues. Celebrimbor is talking to a metal blank specifically and his project more generally, and you're just as invested in these questions as Celebrimbor is. You BELIEVE that he's genuinely asking and looking for an answer. There's something almost Hamletian about this monologue, and I absolutely adore it.
Literally just hand Charles Edwards ALL the acting awards, because even these tiny little moments, these few lines, are imbued with character, with real longing, frustration, and desire. And this isn't even the stuff that we all remember from the season (which is also amazing), it's just a little moment that I genuinely adored and was transfixed by on rewatch.
