In Tokimeki Memorial 2, characters you're close to will sometimes join you on your weekly-scheduled activities (usually girls, but occasionally Jun or Takumi as well, especially when choosing the "hang out" or "club activites" option). Not only does this provide slight affection increases, but it also changes the stats of the character you're hanging out along with your own. Although you'll only get vague ideas of what their stats are - through their exam grades or the relationship status sheet, it can have an effect on their future. For example, Akai (pictured) usually ends up working for her family's orchard, but if her Science stat is the highest she'll go to university for engineering, and if her Looks stat is particularly high she'll become an actor for one of the Tokusatsu shows she loves so much. Akai is a particularly funny example, actually, given that she's the only character who will also join you when you use the rest/slack off option (as pictured). Kaori is also worth mentioning. Unlike the other characters who mostly do fine even if you don't pursue them, Kaori will outright drop out of high school and disappear from the protagonist's life if you don't manage to help her with her confidence issues. If you do, however, she'll be able to attend a top university, become a model, or even become a professional athlete.

"Speaking of which, Yae-san decided to become a model. Since we chose to pursue different careers paths, we might not have a lot of chances to meet. But that just means we should cherish the time we spend together even more. She's regained her internal spark, and laughs a lot more now." It's a really minor thing, just a footnote in the ending slides of the game, but it's such a wonderful detail. It makes the world feel a little more real, having your choices impact not just yourself, but the people closest to you as well. And before you ask, yes, Tokimeki Memorial 3 fucked it up like they did every other mechanic. In that game, characters just have completely random endings.
