Roger Pirates Headcanons 3

The Roger Pirates as a whole

Most or all have a soft spot for babies and children, that's why when Oden and Toki came on. The Roger Pirates were accepting of Momonosuke and Hiyori. But glared at Oden and Toki. Until they started to get to know them, and finally let loose their judgment of the adults. Then everyone is having a great old time.

Birthday parties, my dudes on the Oro Jackson. It must have been a bop and was amazing to attend. I say a small party to Buggy and Shanks was like a large party for most people. This is why their parties are so large, hyped, and loud. That's what they grew up with and it has and will stay with them.

They never thought they would take care of children, most did their best. But it's clear from how Buggy and Shanks act that a pirate might not have been the best place for a kid. Though from what we've seen in the One Piece world. Half the places ain't that good either for children... so maybe it was the best place for them. It's just I doubt the Roger Pirates were good at communicating their feelings and what they think is right to teach children isn't actually a good thing.

Sunbell

This man was the one who helped Buggy and Shanks start swimming. Because Rayleigh is too strict in this, Roger just would fling them in, and Gaban isn't the best at swimming. So, Sunbell being a fishman that could tell them what to do. They both got it down, but Buggy was the one who was the best at it. I see Sunbell having little underwater tea parties with Buggy, because why not

Spencer

Spencer is like an older brother-figure to Shanks and Buggy. Always helps them get out of trouble (which might get him into trouble with them) He usually cooks for the two kids, late at night, because they come to him if they are awake and want a late-night snack. Which has gotten them in trouble when somebody finds them, by the seas forbid it's Rayleigh.

Taro

Taro is much a historian buff that anyone can be, he tells all kinds of stories from the past to Buggy and Shanks. Taro always stated that these stories might not be fully or really true. But it's fun listening to them, he likes to group the ones he believes have the most truth in them and the ones he thinks are straight-up lies.

Bankuro

Bankuro seems like one who would collect rare coins, keeping one of every type. Bankuro probably has asked Buggy and Shanks to help him. And with Bankuro having so many coins of different dates and types. I think it would be fun, if Bankuro wants to get coins from the Void period. Hell, maybe he has some.

Mr. Momora

Mr. Momora is really good with animals, teaching Shanks and Buggy how to safely care for them or watch out for them. As well as riding some of them, like horses or those Arabasta birds that people ride.

Erio

Erio is a tinker, he's the one who got Buggy into tinkering with things. He was the one who created the picture books that the Rogers (mostly Roger) usually read to Shanks and Buggy. I see Erio spending his time helping Buggy making things every time he can.

8, 9, and 11 for the fanfic asks!

8. Bed sharing or roommates AU? Considering 85 percent of my fanfiction OUVRE is bed sharing I believe it is fair to say eyyyyyyyyy I love this trope! Also I love that MTL basically has a built-in Roommates AU. Lotta room to do stuff!  9. Fake dating or arranged marriage? Fake dating is one of those tropes I love so much but haven’t really written. I had a big Skwistok fake dating PR move SHOMANCE fic I was working on a few years ago but I lost interest in it. WAIWAD originally had a fake dating angle but the more I worked on it the less the trope made sense for that particular story. Out of all my pairings I’m most interested in doing a Pickleface Fake Dating fic but I have no idea what that would look like.   11. Kid fic or childhood friends? So I actually have a very silly Dethklok Gets Turned into Kids for Reasons and Charles and Abigail Have to Keep Them Alive fic that I tinker with every so often, hope I’ll be able to finish that one someday.  I also have this other idea where Skwisgaar and Toki meet as children but in a recurring dream, but I don’t know if I’ll ever get that one done eheh. A long time ago I had an idea where Nathan and Murderface met as kids but I don’t remember any of the particulars.

● Opening for the anime adaption of Kengan Ashura. Thus the references to Asura and to the name of the main character: 十鬼蛇王馬. The kanji in his name literally mean "Ten demons snake king horse", thus the words in the song are surely references to him! The premise seems to be based off the Edo era as well.

● Asura are fellows of buddhist mythology, with violent prepositions and life in a realm with non-stop fighting.

● 曇華一現: this too is a word with Buddhist origin - figuratively it alludes to a very rare occasion, but literally it is referencing the (lotus) flower named 'Udumbara’ which blooms only once every 3000 years or upon the manifestation of a something special.

● 火事と喧嘩は江戸の華 is an idiom which references the culture of the Edo era (similar to the "ザンギリ頭を叩いてゴーン文明開化の音までゴーン!" idiom reference in Omedeta’s Tai Toru).

● 桶屋: word from Meiji/Edo era for the people who held funerals…. tte it’s in "風が吹けば桶屋が儲かる”… proverb similar to “For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction” or “Always somewhere someone is dying.” All lives end up in the same place,,,,

● 七転八倒：inspirational idiom used since olden times especially in caligraphy. Often attributed to darumas as well, because darumas have a round bottom and balance back upright even when pushed.

● りゃんせ: archaic speak for “Go do it,” added after a verb.

Interviewer: In regards to noisy songs, your song ’Sorrow like lightning’ is intense too. Ponikingdom: We wrote this song upon accepting a tie-up deal, so the lyrics are leaning towards the contents of the deal. For the instrumentals we called upon neko-kun. The music is metal with a bit of a ‘Insolence’ style reggae tinge to it, so we wanted to the same sort of thing with the singing style as well. Sekihan: Then once he sent the instrumentals over to us, we used it to inspire our melody, thus the rest spiraled from there. The chorus may be in Japanese but, I was keen on making it also conceivable as Western music. Interviewer: Such as The “Ai donge ichigen” lyric being heard as “I don’t care” for example.

Sekihan: That’s right.

324: A lot of time and effort went into the arrangement of this song. Especially the chorus, which I think turned out pretty damn awesome.

Interviewer: The melody is very pop, isn’t it.

324: I wanted to make use of Sekihan’s addition of the melody as well as possible, and when I finally tinkered the arrangement to match it just right, I felt enlightment.

Sekihan: You put a lot of care and attention into the way the chords tie together also, right?

324: Yeah.

Interviewer: Sekihan has a background of loving pop music to extreme measures, could play a part in Omedeta's music; a reason why is has such a unique panache? Ponikingdom: Maybe so. Interview: After all, he does have every number of Onyanko’s club member memorized. Yet he stills love noisy screamo music, it’s a pretty unique palette (laughs).

Sekihan: The fuck (laughs).

Ponikingdom: Though if you ask me I’d say bands like ‘Linkin Park’ and ’Slipknot’ are actually quite pop. They leave a tingle in your ears, and they make people burst into sing-alongs. Sekihan: The melody is definitely pop but, there’s reason they mantain that tinge of screamo... It’s because they put a sort of edge on their voice. So we avail that same type of glamour in ’Sorrow Like Lightning’.

mao: Recently I’m really starting to understand the skill range of Sekihan voice.

Sekihan: He praised me! Yay! Yay!

Interviewer: The skilled meditators of screamo and pop: that’s Omedetai.

324: But, if you asked this band to do hardcore serious screamo, we could not. We love screamo but, everything we do doesn’t revolve around it. And that’s one of our strengths, we don’t revolve around anything. So that’s why we’re capable of leaning towards pop too.

Sekihan: We grew up listening to screamo music, so now it’s our turn bring screamo to other people who never had the chance to learn about it. In a way, it’s like we’re returning the favor to the screamo community. We add the essence of screamo to more palatable music, make people go “Woah. So this is what screamo is all about.”, and hope it serves as a gateway into more. Listen to more screamo, that would make me happy!

This often left Fu by himself while she worked when the novelty wore off. After she passed, Dabura took it upon himself to train and raise him to the best of his ability- for a demon king with no idea of how to take care of a half-mortal toddler, he didn’t do too badly. Charles nervously adjusted his tie as he checked his reflection in the mirror. The pink and royal blue mixed with the purple stripe along the center of the tie.

It would be the first time in a long, long, long while since he had last attended a pride parade.

The last time was back in his college days before he became the manager for Dethklok and that...

That didn't end well.

A knock at the door pulled him out of the spiral of memories. "Charles, are you ready? The parade is going to start soon."

He glanced up at Akita's reflection in the mirror and smiled. The other man looked like a walking rainbow. He had glitter scattered along his exposed shoulders and in his platinum blonde curls. He had on a rainbow crop top with three quarter sleeves and a pair of sinfully tight blue jeans that hung low on his hips.

Charles smiled softly at the sight of his husband. "You look lovely."

Akita winked at him as he stepped inside, his smile growing soft when he saw the tie. He bent down to close the gap between them and pressed a gentle kiss onto the shorter man's forehead. "You look smart. Are you sure you're not going to want to wear your sweater?"

Charles shook his head. "No, I think I'll be fine like this." He gestured to his white button down and black trousers.

Akita smiled and nodded, sending a fine layer of glitter onto Charles. The brunette huffed and rolled his eyes fondly, dusting off his shirt of golden sparkles.

Akita cackled at his scrunched up nose when the glitter didn't move. "Oh, Charlie baby, you better get ready. We'll both look like Tinker Bell by the time Pride is done."

Charles groaned at the thought, already dreading the inevitable mess.

Akita led the way through the streets crowded with people, Charles' hand in his. Some were decked out in LGBT clothes like Akita while most others were more casual like Charles.

"Where are they?" Charles asked over the noise, grunting when someone knocked into his shoulder.

Akita glanced over his shoulder and pulled him closer. "They should be around Fifth and Ninth. Or so Dana says." He grumbled under his breath with a scowl.

It was well known in the Kujakissa family that Dana was horrible with directions and should not be left to her own devices, but she wanted to be a gentle lady and pick up her wife from work before Pride.

"Maybe I should contact Abigail?" Charles asked as he pressed closer to Akita to use his height as a shield.

Akita shook his head, showering Charles in glitter again. "No, she wants to do this her way. Besides," He winked at Charles over his shoulder. "I get to spend some time with you without the man children."

Charles huffed through his nose, shaking his head fondly as the tips of his ears tinged pink. "We could've just gone on a date then."

Akita came to a full stop once they reached the edge of the crowd, close to the corner of Fifth and Ninth street. He turned around, arms crossed. "Charles. The last time we tried to do date night, we had to carry Toki home because he was drunk off his ass, call a Klokateer to pick up Nathan and Pickles because they snuck off to a motel room, protect Skwisgaar because he kept flirting with a biker's girlfriend and save Murderface from getting his ass handed to him by the bouncer who heard him being a homophobic douchebag." He ticked each incident off his fingers, raising an unimpressed eyebrow to a very embarrassed Charles.

"I-I'm sure if we explained..." He protested weakly, letting his words die on his tongue when Akita stared him down.

"Neither one of us believe that for a minute, Charles." Akita grumbled, uncrossing his arms to put a hand on his hip as his phone rang. He rolled his eyes when he saw the video caller ID and answered it. "Don't tell me you two are lost."

Dana frowned at him, grunting a negative. She turned the phone slightly to show that both her and Abigail had made it to Fifth and Ninth.

Abigail waved when she saw the blonde, dressed casually. She wore a black t-shirt with a small bi flag over her heart. "Hey Akita! You almost here?" She shouted over the music being played from one of the nearby floats.

Akita nodded, reaching over to take Charles' hand again and intertwining their fingers. "We'll be there soon. We got caught up talking."

Abigail and Dana both shot him a disbelieving look that made Charles blush.

"I'm serious! We weren't fucking in the bathroom. Again."

Dana gagged loudly, retching as she pushed the phone into Abigail's hands so she could be dramatic.

Abigail laughed while Akita rolled his eyes. "Fucking drama queen. Like I haven't caught you getting hot and heavy with your wife before!" He shouted to the phone.

Dana took the phone again, her face bright red from the roots of her curly black hair down to her neck. 'It was one time and we agreed never to talk about it again, you utter bitch! She signed quickly, eyes averting from Abigail who turned a very interesting shade of pink.

Akita rolled his eyes, pulling a silent and slightly mortified Charles behind him.

The minute Dana saw her cousin, she stepped forward to punch his bicep hard. The red was still present in her cheeks as she pouted.

Akita hissed and rubbed his bicep. "Don't fucking bruise me. You started it."

Dana groaned, grunting the negative before signing, I did not! It's all your fault!

"How is it MY fault?!"

Charles left the two Europeans to argue as he went to Abigail's side to escape the dramatics.

Abigail was leaning against the wall in her shirt and a pair of blue jeans. Her usual heels had been swapped for a pair of comfortable looking sneakers. "Glad to see you two could make it and represent." She teased, winking as she tapped the bi flag on her shirt.

Charles exhaled sharply through his nose. "I doubt Akita would've missed Pride for the world." He glanced over to his husband, a fond smile on his face.

Abigail had a similar dopey smile on her face as she looked at her wife in bisexual colored galaxy overalls. "Yeah, Dana didn't want to miss it either. Not after last year."

The two office workers shared a grimace over the fiasco that was Dethklok at Pride last year.

"Never, ever again." Charles vowed once again as Abigail nodded in agreement.

Akita came back to Charles' side once their argument had fizzled out, wrapping his arms around the shorter man's shoulders with an exaggerated pout on his red lips. "Charlie baby, Dana's so mean to me." He whined, batting his eyes at Charles.

Charles rolled his eyes fondly. "Akita, you're just as mean. If not meaner."

Akita wrinkled his nose at him. "Baby, you're supposed to agree with me, not argue with me."

Charles chuckled and got onto his tiptoes to kiss the pout off Akita's lips.

Dana gagged playfully at them as she pulled Abigail to her side, an arm draped loosely over the shorter woman's shoulders. Abigail placed her head against Dana's shoulder. "Well, are we going to participate or argue on the sidelines like a bunch of losers?" She asked as a group of people waving flags walked passed them, loudly singing to Lady Gaga's Born This Way.

Dana giggled, pulling a neatly folded bisexual flag from the bib pocket of her overalls. She unfolded it to the amazement of the men before handing one corner to Abigail.

Abigail smiled at her before pulling the corner over her shoulder. Dana had the other corner over her shoulder so that the bisexual flag covered both of their backs like a cape. "Come on, slowpokes!" Abigail laughed as the duo joined the crowd.

Charles glanced over at Akita, raising an eyebrow. "I don't suppose you've got a secret flag hidden away like that?"

Akita snorted at him. "Please. I knew you wouldn't want to do something quite that flashy." He pulled two small flags from his back pocket and passed one to Charles.

Charles stared at the fabric, warmth filling his chest and a soft pink dusting his cheekbones. His fingers ran over the black triangle on the left hand side. "Akita..."

Akita smiled softly at him before kissing his cheek. "Come on. Let's join the parade before Dana loses her shit." He held out his hand with a soft smirk.

Charles beamed back at his husband, interlocking their fingers. "You lead." He said softly, holding the demisexual flag tightly in his free hand.

Akita winked at him as they pushed through the crowd where Dana and Abigail were waiting for them, his rainbow flag raised proudly in the air.

Aftermath

Charles groaned as he slumped into the seat of the car. He was an absolute mess. There was glitter and confetti in his hair. There was glitter in his clothes. There was glitter in his fucking glasses and he still wasn't sure how that happened.

Pride had been a fun experience, watching Akita dance to the music by other LGBT musicians before getting forced into a dance by a not-so-gentle nudge by Dana that nearly collided him with his husband. But it was kind of worth it to see Akita beam at him before taking his hand and pulling him tight against his chest with a laugh.

He had learned that there were plenty of people on the same spectrum as he was.

He had also learned he wasn't as young as he wanted to be and now he wanted to put on his comfiest sweater and sleep until there was another fire for him to put out that Dethklok started.

Akita slipped into the seat next to him, kissing his cheek gently. "Too much?" He asked softly, rubbing his thigh.

Charles shook his head, trying to hide his exhaustion. "No, I'm fine." He straightened in the seat.

Akita gave him a disbelieving look combined with a raised eyebrow. "...Uh huh." He let it go as he cuddled against Charles' chest, tucking his legs beneath him and letting his eyes fall shut. "Well, I am. We should go home and cuddle. Maybe nap." He fiddled with a button on Charles' shirt, eyes full of mischief.

Charles sighed with a small smile, knowing full well he had been caught.

Statebox summit

The summit was a cultural experience. I saw the hackers’ way of tinkering and the category theorists’ way of moving their mind along.  Many of the categorical artisans worked on string diagrams.  Some worked on inference systems.  Hackers came to the summit too.  They set up a very comfortable tent that’s called “the dome”.

The hackers had a 1-D game that kept breaking. They fixed it. Rainwater leaked into the tent. They fixed it. Electricity somehow stopped. They fixed it. After everything the tent is gone but I certainly keep this tent in my soul because always comfortable even while things kept breaking.

The category theorists drew stuff on the whiteboard.  Usually, it’s full of arrows but this time I saw some equations too.  The coend thing really helps.  In the mornings they were giving well-prepared presentations, and in the afternoons they were following their curiosity in a wild way.  I can use this language only passively and not actively.  So I spent mornings in presentations and I spent afternoons in hackers’ tent.

I gathered some strings I can pull on.  Toki pona language is a great way to learn how to stretch limited vocabulary to the limit.  Louping Louie requires subtle control of force.  If you want to stay on top of a band between trees, you keep your hands above you and keep your legs bent a bit.  meta-cedille takes a surprising approach to syntax. Two participants’ applied category theory book is very accessible while gives rich intuitions in easy prose and good exercises. But Statebox is more than a box of curiosity.

I spent the whole week without eating any meat and I realized I wasn’t obsessed about meat. The “personal note” of the applied category theory book asks the readers to use category theory for something that the readers would call “good”.  As I was falling asleep, in the next room, I vaguely heard something like “I don’t want to use category theory for this kind of purpose because“ I guess they want to commit to a collaborative society.

Now that Hearthstone’s latest set of cards – The Witchwood – has been out for a while, it’s time to take a deep dive into the design of the set with Team 5’s Lead Initial Designer Peter Whalen and Lead Final Designer Dean Ayala. Over the course of this interview they reveal ideas for The Witchwood that didn’t make it in, how designing the first set after rotation is different from the second or third, and take us through early design ideas for Odd and Even decks, Tess Greymane, Toki, Time-tinker and a whole lot more. They’ve also supplied work in progress art for some of the early designs!

And maybe bodyswapping? I don’t have a fic idea but I know who would go into who. (Skwisgaar into Murderface, Murderface into Toki, Toki into Nathan, Nathan into Pickles, Pickles into Skwisgaar. Skwisgaar washes and styles Murderface’s hair with actual products. Pickles can’t get used to his new center of gravity. Murderface walks around in increasingly ridiculous and skimpy outfits. Toki keeps trying to take over the band. Nathan doesn’t understand why he can’t reach anything anymore.) I also..........kinda wanna try my hand at sex pollen? But like a mutually consensual sex pollen? That’s one of those ‘how can I take this ridiculous concept and make it plausible’ ideas. I know how I’d do it. Can I execute it? Ehhhhhh... 7. There are two parts in chapter 15 of APA that I’m really proud of, because they’re both times when I wanted to articulate something very specific, and evoke very particular emotions. I feel like these were those rare times when what was in my head matches what’s on the page. It’s this part in Skwisgaar’s section: As he sat, the right side of Skwisgaar’s blanket tumbled invitingly open, laying in the gap between his and Toki’s bodies. He mirrored Toki’s pose. Overhead, the sky was a murky mush. Navy blue clouds on the edge of black, swollen with potential snow. They evoked a sadness in the pit of Skwisgaar’s chest he could not place. Some long ago childhood disappointment, the specifics lost but the hurt everlasting. And this part in Toki’s: The tree’s sturdy trunk followed the divot of Skwisgaar’s spine, its branches braiding over and through one another as they fanned across his shoulder blades. Gnarls and knots poked playfully from the bark. A dragon slumbered in the winding roots at the small of his back.   “It’s--” “Yggdrasil,” Toki whispered with awe. But on the flip side I feel like what I post is the most “complete” it’s going to be. (Or I just post it because I’ve been working on it for months and I’ve given up. Either way it’s getting posted.)

The Witchwood Card Review: Mage

Book of Specters

Build around epic for mage, will be a big driver in minion mage if the deck turns out to be any good. Cheap enough to be played early or fish for something late. Even if it draws 2 spells and 1 minion its still decent value, the downside here is that answers in mage tend to be spells. So you’re not going to fish for lethal with this.

Archmage Arugal

Amazing value generator. Effectively a soft-taunt because the value possibilities are so good. Anything that lets you go beyond deck limits has off the charts potential. That it only duplicates minions isn’t even enough to stop this from seeing play in non-minion mage. Being on a body makes it not even that slow of a play. Only downside is that the body is fragile so its easy to remove.

Snap Freeze

Combined with glacial shard this is a 3 mana 2 card assassinate. 2 card removal tends not to be strong enough to see play compared to individual cards like fireball/polymorph/etc. This is slightly better in that there’s synergy with other freeze effects as well which mage has in spades.

Black Cat

Only thing I don’t like about this card is that it was only printed for mage. This is Azure Drake but better. Obviously has the downside of needing to be in an odd cost deck, but there is a reason azure drake was in every deck. Spell damage, card draw, on a good tempo body is just an amazing package for 3 mana. I don’t care what anyone says, this card will be a staple until it rotates. 3 health body isn’t impossible to deal with, but you do *have* to deal with it or the spell damage will continue to disrupt your play.

Cinderstorm

Bigger version of arcane missiles, but not nearly as mana efficient. AM is 3:1 dmg:mana, this is 1.6:1 which would be comparable to fireball, but this is still randomly targeted.

Vex Crow

More value generation for mage. Control mage is going to be scary if it finds a way to tie all these generators together. Stat wise there are ~12 weak 2 drops out of 87 total 2 mana minions so ~85% chance to get decent value with every spell cast. Combine this with coin and another spell and you get tons of value. Issues with this card: slow, needs a spell cast immediately to generate enough value for its cost.

Arcane Keysmith

One of the only discover cards in the set, and its a good one. This will absolutely appear in any secret oriented mage deck. Allows you to break deck limits and generate more disruptive secrets that must be played around.

Bonfire Elemental

In any elemental mage deck, the build around here is not a problem at all. This is basically free card draw on 5 with an excellent body. Not much to say here.

Curio Collector

Anti-priest questing adventurer. It is mildly disruptive in that your opponent will need to remove it before it grows out of control. But by turn 5 that shouldn’t be that difficult for them. Decent card if you’re ahead, bad card if you’re behind.

Toki, Time-Tinker

Meme card that is going to make a lot of people super salty, especially if this shows up during a big tournament and helps win a game by pulling a ragnaros, sylvanas, etc. It has a ton of both good and bad possibilities. Standalone effect means it doesn’t have or need synergy with the rest of the deck.
