I firmly believe in the head cannon that Todd Andersen loves horror movies in a creepy disturbing way but to further extend my view on this i propose that Todd not only LOVES horror but he loves gore movies even more!!

“hey baby,” jason whispered, his hand on the glass separating the two of you, oh how he wished he could break this down and take you home. but he knows that you wouldn’t react well to being taken.

you don’t reply, your eyes are staring forward. they’re so dull now, not like the girl he loved when he was younger, his girl.

you’re wearing one of the hoodies he left here for you. you may not recognise his face and voice but you’d never forget the way he smelt, you used to tease him for the pine smell but now it was all you had left of him.

“baby,” jason calls out again, a little louder this time. “come on, doll. look at me, it’s me. it’s jay.” jason wants to cry, he wants you back, he wants you home, his voice is pleading, there’s a lump in his throat when you finally look at him.

you shake your head at him, “you’re not my jay.”

jason feels like he’s dying again, it feels the same. he feels like he’s dying inside, the breath leaving his lungs, eyes closing and he can hear that bomb again. the maniacal laughter of the bastard that killed him, the sound of his skull cracking under the force of the crowbar.

because he’s not really your jay, is he? no, he knows he isn’t. that boy died a long time ago, but jason can be jay, because you need jay, not jason.

“yes i am, baby.” it’s me, doll.

when did baby turn to doll, he wonders. another sign that he’s changed.

“look at me, really look at me.”

and you do you look into his green eyes— green? that can’t be right, jay’s eyes were an icy blue you adored dozing off to. but there is something familiar in the way this man looks at you, like you could massacre cities and he’d still love you.

but he can’t be jay, your jay died.

you shake your head again, turning away from him to curl up on the bed — jason has to remember to say thanks to bruce for getting you somewhere that takes care of you — to hide from him.

“baby don’t go,” he whispers.

this was routine by now, everyday for the last three months he came here. to sit by the glass that separates you from him. and everyday you do the same thing, refuse to believe him.

“baby, don’t you remember me? remember that day we snuck into the theatre, in the roof and took out that part of the ceiling so we could watch? and you said—”

“—we’re like ninjas.”

a smile crosses his lips, and he laughs. your heart flutters and you peek a look at him, only to find his staring right back at you. “hi baby.”

“jay,” you mumble, he nods.

“that’s right, doll. it’s jay.”

“doll?” you ask.

he shrugs, “maybe it’s time for something new.”

“i like it,” you say.

it takes weeks before you’re discharged. the doctors don’t believe the sudden change in you, the hallucinations suddenly gone, you’re not seeing a teenage lover, you don’t believe you’re 15 anymore.

they run their test but nothing wrong comes back. jason takes you home at the end of it all.

it’s different, the way he walks, or talk, the way he stands. so different yet so familiar. he’s bigger, not the scrawny boy you knew, his size triples yours.

he laughs when you mention it to him.

he keeps his distance, trying to keep you comfortable but you want him closer. you want him to hold you, more than anything you want to curl up next to him, letting some corny horror movie you play in the background, you’d jump despite knowing the jump scares are coming, and he’d tease you, promise to keep the monsters away. before he screamed himself, and you laughed, fingers running through his hair.

his hair was different too, still black but he had that white streak in it. you told him you liked it, he gave up on trying to dye it.

he stays with you at night, holding your hand when you wake up from the nightmares of losing him.

it takes months before he holds you, causally like he used to. hands dragging along your hips when he walks past you. he coddles you months later despite your insistence that you can take care of yourself.

you don’t get over the years of your life you lost, but you both have that in common. your life started and ended together. now you get another chance to start again.

jason won’t leave you again. jay won’t let you hurt again.

I’m going to keep this simple, I want a headcanon about their favorite movies.

fuck this might suck bc I don't watch a lot of movies. bare with me here it might not be super specific.

FAVORITE MOVIES

Peppino: I feel like he would enjoy classic movies like Titanic or The Great Gatsby. Classy and classic. Hates horror movies. Actually watches movies quite often.

Gustavo: Also loves the classics. I can see him watching Sweeny Todd or The Master of Disguise. He likes comedy movies, too. I can imagine that he loved the movie Elf.

Mr. Stick: Loves mafia movies. Thinks he's an old fashioned ganster when in reality, he's just greedy. The Godfather is his favorite. He probably also liked Knives Out.

Pepperman: I don't see him watching too many videos since he's always busy painting. However, I think he would really like cheesy movies. Fame would probably be one of them. Probably even loved the movie Chicago.

The Vigilante: Anything old western. Dreams of being a real cowboy. Once watched Brokeback Mountain not realize what the movie was ACTUALLY about, he was thoroughly traumatized. His favorite was The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

The Noise: HEAR. ME. OUT. This absolute fucking crack baby would LOVE the first two Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies. He tried to get Noisette to watch them with him, but she started crying because it was too disturbing. I feel like he'd love slasher films in general. Judges most movies as he thinks his are better. (Secretly loves Inside Out. Cried over it. Noisette teases him about it constantly.) Also loved Parasite and The SpongeBob Movie.

Noisette: She loves anything Disney, especially the classics or princesses. Knows all the songs to Frozen. Her favorite was Tangled. She still hasn't stopped asking for a white horse and an iguana sidekick. She always cries at movies. She doesn't like horror or gore in movies. She also loves cheesy chick flicks and Noise's movies. She's his #1 fan, after all.

Fake Peppino: Will watch anything and everything. He will watch it on repeat until he memorizes every line. If I had to choose a favorite for him, it would probably be The Little Mermaid (animated version). He really likes the water aspect. It reminds him of being a little baby tadpole.

Pizzahead: Movie fanatic. Loves most movies and will watch any genre. Anything from the classic 1930's movie to new modern movies. Probably would love the Barbie movie. I feel like he would like musicals. His all time favorite would probably be Gone with the Wind. I also see him enjoying slasher films.

Pillar John: Likes comedy movies. Probably likes the movie Meatballs. Also likes documentaries. I feel like he would be into both Disney and DreamWorks, one of his favorites being Guardians of the Galaxy.

Gerome: Big movie lover and will watch almost anything. Secretly enjoys The Noise's movies, but won't tell him because he refuses to feed his ego. He probably can't choose just one favorite.

Holy shit! This question makes me so happy but also so…wow, how do I organize this! How can I narrow them down…there’s just so many horror movies I definitely love and would recommend. The different sub-genres within horror and what’s the best to watch from those was considered, but that leaves out some solid horror movies that don’t fit into any particular sub-genre. So I kind of went chronologically, throughout the years…I might be wrong in some of these years, so please forgive me for that. I’ll also definitely have left off a lot of really good ones, so excuse the incompleteness of the list.

So, as mentioned on my other post, gotta start back in the roaring 20’s, when horror really kind of hit the mainstream, with 1922’s Nosferatu. It’s going to seem really boring if you go in expecting a gore-fest like what we get now, but I think it’s a really stand up film for it’s time, with a great atmosphere and feel to it.

All of the classic Universal monster film’s from the 30’s should be checked out. They’re classics for a reason and the horror genre really owes a lot to these early films.

As far as I know, the original that came out then is impossible to find, but you can find versions of 1932’s Freaks and it’s definitely worth checking out. That movie kind of fucked me up, though a lot of the horror in it was the mass exploitation of people who dared to differ from the norm.

As far as I know, the 30’s version of Sweeney Todd was the first time it was on film? Definitely worth checking out, comparing and contrasting to the Johnny Depp version of it. Both are decent in their own ways (though, of course, the stage renditions are the best).

To me, Son of Frankenstein, while considered a horror at the time, was the first horror comedy. At least, I very much have that feel watching it.

While there were a lot of 40’s horror films, the only one I still remember and enjoy is the Abbott and Costello film I recommended in the previous post.

In my opinion, the 50’s had a lot of really great horror films. Watching them now, they do feel campy and kind of B-grade, but I really do think that is part of the appeal to them and it’s also fun to see some of the tropes in horror that are still used to this day. So from that era, I recommend Donovan’s Brain, I Was a Teenage Werewolf, Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, anything with Vincent Price, and Teenagers from Outer Space.

1960 brought us Psycho. Any horror fan should check out Psycho – I consider it a classic and a must watch. I also think that might have been the year The Little Shop of Horrors first came out on film. The original wasn’t bad, though I recommend the later version with Rick Moranis. It had a really great feel to it and was a little more fun than the original.

From the rest of the 60’s…oh, you guys know this one was going to be on here. Rosemary’s Baby, natch. Night of the Living Dead is also one that was obviously going to show up on this list because again – should be considered must-watch for any horror movie lover. Romero and horror – goes hand in hand and especially in terms of zombie tropes…it set up a lot of those. For a surprise from the 60’s though, I do recommend Blood and Black Lace.

The 70’s were great for horror. I definitely recommend the 70’s Wicker Man. If you start to watch Wicker Man and you see Nicolas Cage….press back or do whatever you need to do to turn it off. Then go watch the Wicker Man without Nicolas Cage. You will thank me for that tidbit of advice. Tales from the Crypt, The Exorcist, Jaws, Alien, the OG Carrie, The Omen, the OG The Hills Have Eyes, the OG Suspiria, Dawn of the Dead, I Spit on Your Grave, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Black Christmas, and The Amityville Horror were all fantastic movies from that decade. Plus, the Halloween and Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchises started in this decade and I really recommend those franchises as a whole. Did both of them have some terrible sequels/prequels/remakes? Oh boy, did they! But overall, the franchises are solid. Young Frankenstein is a solid horror comedy and while technically a miniseries, Salem’s Lot from that time is still something I rewatch at least every year or two.

The 80’s brought Freddy fucking Krueger and boy, do I recommend watching the Nightmare On Elm Street franchise. The Chucky franchise also started at that time and I love the really kind of campy, horror comedy feel to that franchise, with some genuinely scary scenes. The Evil Dead is a classic for a reason and definitely a must watch. Just watch every movie in the franchise because at the worst, they’re hilarious, at their best they’re so, so GOOD. Pretty sure Poltergeist is also from the 80’s but if I’m wrong, it’s late 70’s. I love The Lost Boys, at least the original one.  Motel Hell was weird as fuck but pretty decent horror comedy? My favourite horror comedy from the 80’s though has to be April Fool’s Day – definitely one I recommend everyone see at least once. Fright Night from the 80’s was also really good and I actually also enjoy the remake with Colin Farrell. The 80’s also brought a lot of Stephen King adaptions and where I love his writing, I watched a lot of them – Christine, Cujo, Silver Bullet,  Children of the Corn (the OG one is my favourite, though the remake wasn’t absolutely fucking horrific), Pet Sematary, Creepshow…notice The Shining is missing? It’s because I actually don’t really like the movie. I found the book more genuinely scary. One that does have to be mentioned but which I will personally NEVER watch again – Cannibal Holocaust. Don’t eat going into it and be aware that it gets very, VERY violent. If you consider Gremlins a horror movie, it’s on there. I just say it’s a classic Christmas movie you should definitely check out around the season. I watch it every Christmas season.

From the 90’s, starting with a miniseries but the version of IT that still scares me the most? The 90’s miniseries with Tim Curry. It will legit make me cry but that’s because clowns freak me out royally.  But legit, the 90’s and the 00’s was the era I really was just getting into horror, so I struggle to figure out what is me viewing it with a lot of nostalgia and love and what is actually good so I’m going bullet points for these decades:

Se7en – even non-horror fans know THAT scene from this movie, let’s be real, and I think that  makes it have to be on this list.

Village of the Damned

From Dusk Till Dawn

The first Scream came out this decade, as did a couple of the others, but please watch all the franchise except the newest ones. I watched them, not as great as the original run but 1-4…fucking amazing and probably my favourite horror franchise personally.

I Know What You Did Last Summer

The first Blade movie came out in this decade, but I recommend all three.

House on Haunted Hill

The Sixth Sense really did have an amazing twist, though it looks cheap and played out rewatching or looking back on it. For the time period though – it was an amazing twist.

Final Destination. Any of the movies in the franchise kind of give me the happy but the first one is probably the best.

The Leprechan franchise is great horror comedy. I love Warwick Davis.

I recommend the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie, only because it led to the show and the show was so, so precious to me.

The following is an edited version of a stupid IMDB review about carnivorous unicorns, but it's now about cupcakes. Just like Natsuki.

Thousands of young ladies (ages 18 to 18) from around here collect cupcakes. Usually a friend of one or more such youngsters needn't spend a lot of her time fretting over whether a cartoon release from a major studio is going to be "cupcake friendly." Most features referencing cupcakes are animated, but not every cartoon features cupcakes. Far from it. It's usually a case of "feast or famine" with cupcakes. Either you have lots of cupcakes in your flick--such as several of the MY LITTLE PONY videos, or the original DDLC release (Metaaaa), as well as the baking television series--or Cupcakes don't exist for the purpose of your movie. (If something sweet appears in a live action film, it's usually NOT in a nice way, and it's something intended for older or much older girls, such as the first Harry Potter flick (Jelly beans), or THE CABIN IN THE WOODS (sugar plum fairy) from two years ago.) When it was announced that MR. PEABODY AND SHERMAN would be preceded by an "updated" Rocky and Bullwinkle short, I did not think twice about there being a "red flag" raised in regard to suitability for young cupcake lovers. Both original versions of these cartoons were "cupcake neutral," meaning NO cupcakes. Therefore, no alarm bells went off in my head that MR. PEABODY would need a red alert (like when a registered serial killer moves into your neighborhood), because I could not IMAGINE that he, or Sherman, Rocky, or Bullwinkle would allow anything to be said or shown to scare the BEJABBERS out of impressionable young "Cupcake connoisseurs," as we like to say around here.

Imagine my SHOCK & DISMAY when something called ALMOST HOME came onto the screen instead of our promised Rocky & Bullwinkle, AND BEGAN SPOUTING OFF ABOUT "CARNIVOROUS CUPCAKES"!! How would YOU feel? What would YOU do? Naturally, my entire party of 5 walked out, exchanging our tickets for a showing of FROZEN (The 2010 version) which started 35 minutes later (and which most of us had seen once or twice previously; but we'd already "invested" a total of about $70 at the concession stand; this episode cost us AN ADDITIONAL $20 or so, between the refill charges and the Unplanned, Un-budgeted-for arcade games). This ALMOST HOME short was not making much sense BEFORE it got to its ill-considered reference to the gentle, magical treat. Obviously, ABOUT HOME director Todd Wilderman has never met a little tsundere. But someone on his studio's staff SHOULD have been bright enough to realize that you do NOT bring in some horror gambit from THE CABIN IN THE WOODS to an animated short sprung on parents WITH NO WARNING. I know of one tsundere who have woken up indifferent in the middle of the night, thinking a cupcake was about to eat them. You do NOT tell millions of kids in the single digits (age-wise) that there ain't no Santy-Claus, and you do NOT scare thousands of young cupcake connoisseurs that their beloved magical minister cake might eat them for dinner!

My Nimona headcannon's!!

I would like to start this off by saying thank you for everyones input with my last post concerning whether or not I should write for Nimona! I'd like to share some headcannon's I have for these lovely characters before I start writing for them! I say this because there may be times where I use my personal headcannon's for them in future fanfics.

Without furthermore, I present to you all! My headcannon's!

I try to color code the names because the white text can hurt my eyes throughout reading. 🥲

Ballister Boldheart

(This dude has two different last names for some reason. I'm using the one from the movie because I haven't read the book all the way)

His favorite color HAS to be periwinkle, you cannot tell me otherwise. He just seems like the type of dude to favor periwinkle because it's a soft color to gaze upon.

Bro has sensory issues, and sometimes will have days where his prosthetic arm will cause him discomfort. I think he would have days where he doesn't wear the prosthetic if he knows he's not going anywhere.

PTSD and Anxiety tics when he thinks back to the ceremony incident. This poor dude cannot get enough of the past.

He will have recurring nightmares of the incident that makes him wake up in cold sweats. (Ambrosius would comfort him anytime he has those nightmares)

Bro has a book collection that are mostly action and thriller genre books. (Maybe even fairytale books)

CRAVES physical affection on a daily basis ever since he’s been away from Ambrosius for so long.

Based on the indented headcannon above, I would say that Ballister wasn't this clingy when he was first with Ambrosius, but now that he had to endure YEARS of not seeing him after the incident, he's been more clingy than Ambrosius has.

He seems the type to run his thumb over Ambrosius’ knuckles as a way to tell him he loves him.

Anytime Him and Ambrosius are together, either sitting next to each other, or walking while holding hands, he’ll lay his head on Ambrosius’ shoulder on instinct.

One time he shaved his beard and he had to endure Ambrosius’ laughter for a solid 5 minutes at most because of how young he looked to Ambrosius.

He holds Ambrosius' hand with his actual hand so he can feel the warmth of his lover.

Continuing with the indent, he makes sure that he touches Ambrosius with his actual hand because he fears that there will be a day where he will never see him again. (This one hurts 🥲)

He has insomnia, what can I say?

He treats Nimona like his own, of course. Bro spoils her 24/7.

Ambrosius and Ballister would always pass notes during their training years. (Todd teased them for it)

He's so tenderheaded. He never let's anyone play with his hair unless it's soft strokes.

When he does get into his ler moods however, you better HOPE you can out run this bitch. He turns into a whole new person when in his ler moods.. 😬

Ambrosius Goldenloin

He has frequent meltdowns because he physically cannot get the image of him cutting Bal's arm off out of his mind.

He's Allergic to cats. (=^ェ^=)

Ever since Ballister brought up a nightmare about Ambrosius telling him He doesn't love him, he's been complimenting Bal every morning, and always make sure that he tells him he loves him.

He teases Bal everyday to see his smile when in a flustered state.

He so gossips to Bal about the drama that happened over at the tower when Ambrosius was working for the Director. "Sit down babe, I gotta tell YOU about this one time..."

He pulls Bal closer to him when they cuddle because he has thoughts of Bal being just a dream.

LOVES HORROR MOVIES. He doesn't seem like the type to go on a horror marathon, but he favors the conjuring movies. 🍿 (he drags Bal along with him just so he can watch Bal cling on to him for dear life.)

He leaves little love notes for Bal to wake up to when Ambrosius leaves to run errands.

It took Ambrosius a LONG while for him to feel comfortable around Nimona because he regrets being mean to her when working for the Director.

He's not one to favor reading books, but he always says yes to Bal when agreeing to go to the book store.

Golden retriever, if you will?

One time, he took an animal quiz with Bal and Nimona to see which animals they would be, and he was mad for the rest of the day when he got a dolphin and not a dog.

He's not that sensitive when it comes to tickling, but Bal knows one spot that gets Ambrosius to take back whatever he might have said to Bal. *cough* *cough* ticklish knees *cough* DAMN, I need a new keyboard, this ones barely working. 👨‍💻 /j

a second dad to Nimona.

Nimona

One time she turned into a shark and had Bal walk with her around the neighborhood because he tried to scare Nimona. (She's petty like that)

She has night terrors of the well and Gloreth.

She makes it her JOB to embarrass Bal and Ambrosius when they kiss in public. "Get a room!" "Okay you two LOVE BIRDS!"

She pretends to fall asleep next to Bal so he can put a blanket over her due to being lazy.

One time she locked Bal outside of his home because he won a board game.

She so listens to Evanescence. (Maybe even Avenged sevenfold)

Every Christmas, she hangs up a mistle toe for Bal and Ambrosius, but she still acts disgusted when they kiss under it.

When she's stressed, she shapeshifts into a bird and flies around the city to calm herself down when Bal and Ambrosius aren't at Bal's home.

LOVES to sing outloud.

One time she called Diego out for reading fanfiction when hanging out with Bal and Ambrosius.

"Guys, Diego is reading fanfiction again.." Nimona pointed at Diego's phone.

"Am NOT!" Diego hid his phone away from the others in disbelief.

"Dude, how many times do we have to say it, we don't care if you read fanfiction, just do it on a day where we're NOT hanging out." Ambrosius sighed heavily.

On chill days where Bal, Ambrosius, and Nimona are all hanging out in Bal's livingroom, she would draw, paint, or color a picture.

I feel like she wants to because an artist. She has the creativity and mind like one!

It looks like her favorite color would be pink because of the implications of her shapeshifting into pink animals, but I think her favorite color would be like some type of orange-y red color.

She's a gift giver. She would be the type of person to gift someone a drawing with their favorite color as the main visual.

She seems like a Ler to me. I don't think she's very ticklish, but then again; with her backstory, I don't think she really knows what tickling is until she popped into Bal's and Ambrosius' lives. (Them two lovely doves brings up too many tickle fights around Nimona.)

Diego the Squire

He reads AND writes Ao3 fanfictions (he reads them more than he writes them)

The movie portrays him as a distrusting and closed minded person, but I really think he's a hesitant people pleaser.

He avoids conflict BIG TIME.

He so sleeps with stuffed animals. (me too bro, me too)

His social battery is ALWAYS on an all time low.

He avoids small children after what Nimona pulled that one time.

He gives off gay or bi energy.

He blames himself for not showing Bal the video of the director sooner.

Bro has a sweet tooth.

He doesn't seem like the type of person to celebrate Holloween.

I like to believe that he admired the knights who worked for the queen, so he worked his hardest to become the queens Squire as a way to gain recognition due to the fear of being forgotten. Even though the Squire seems like a really overlooked job, everyone knows Diego at the tower, and is mostly favored by many knights.

He was really close with the queen when training to be a Squire. Apart from Ballister and the other knights, I think her death hit him the hardest.

After showing Ballister and Nimona the video evidence of the director sabotaging the ceremony, he had a HUGE wave of guilt put on him, so he soon forced himself to become unknown to everyone from the tower, and the outside world. (I only say this because he was never seen at the ending of the movie from what I remember.) [please tell me otherwise, I don't want to spread misinformation.]

Thoddeus Sureblade

He's an asshole, but he also cries himself to sleep because of the regret he feels after being disrespectful to others.

He makes way too many dirty jokes for his own good.

He feels incredibly bad for all the times he would beat up Ballister. He only did it because he thought that Bal and Nimona were the monsters, and not the Director.

He still has a hard time accepting the fact that the Director was the one who sabotaged the ceremony. He knows she's a monster, but he worked for her for YEARS. That takes a lot of development honestly.

Bro tried to have his hair smell like lavender because of how much he looks up to Ambrosius. (This WILL be cannon 🫵 /j)

One time he accidentally got one of Bal's and Ambrosius' notes during training class, and decide he wanted to mess with them by sending a note back. (Let's say he never done that again.)

His love language is quality time. If he hangs out with you almost everyday, that's him saying he loves your company. (When did this turn into some romance shit? ⚰️)

Favors board games over online games. If you say or ask anything about video games, he would walk the other direction.

Continuing with the indent; he gets really competitive with board games.

He also has the fear of being forgotten. Hence why he was always jealous of Ambrosius. He always wants to lead everyone to the right direction, but is always overlooked upon because Ambrosius would come in and "steal" his spotlight. (Not saying that Ambrosius was trying to)

He favors salty more than sweets.

100% ler. Bro tickles everybody when given the chance to.

I don't think he's the ticklish type, but getting a certain spot will probably make him giggle at most.

(Horror) movies seen in 2023: Hangover Square (1945)

This September and October, I will attempt to see and review as many new-to-me horror movies as I can!

In his annotated lyrics, Stephen Sondheim cited Hangover Square as a primary influence on Sweeney Todd- specifically, the way the score enhanced the gothic melodrama. As soon as a whistle screeches when Laird Crager clutches his head in his hands, you’ll see why.

The ominously named composer George Bone (Crager) is haunted by lost time. Why does his memory seem to vanish when he becomes absorbed in his work, and what does he do during those missing hours? He isn’t at all comforted by his unfaithful lover or his dour doctor (the latter played by the always sinister George Sanders.) His only supportive friend, Barbara, tries to assure him that he needs to focus more on his music, not less, but he continues to be haunted by what we would today called fugue states. Fugue, you may recall, is also a musical term. Perhaps you’ll recognize it from Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, a classical piece so sinister it has become a horror film cliche.

In the Snarkout Boys children’s books by Daniel Pinkwater, Rat, a scary punk girl obsessed with Old Hollywood movie stars, is noted as a particular Laird Crager fan. I bet this was her favorite movie.

The black and white era often saw classical music being played in-universe to disturbing effect. Consider the pianist staring at his own hands in horror in The Hands of Orlock and its remake Mad Love, or the conductor at his stand fantasizing about murder and suicide in Unfaithfully Yours, or the church organist dissociating while playing in Carnival of Souls. Perhaps we see less of this now because classical concerts have become the domain of hardcore music fans rather than general gatherings of the upper class. Still, the close-up face of an artist sweating and closing their eyes as they physically hammer away at the notes remains haunting.

The line between thriller and horror is tenuous at best, and Hangover Square, I would argue, crosses it. (It’s certainly not much of a mystery- I would have liked one more twist, at least.) Poor George isn’t haunted by any physical ghost, but by himself. If he can’t remember what that bundle was that he tossed into the bonfire on Guy Fawkes Night, does it matter whether demonic possession, mental illness or a mundane crime of passion caused it? If he finds himself lost, with no understanding of how he came to wake up where he is, the streets of London might as well be those of hell. Did Dr. Jekyll need his famous potion, or can our minds play the very same tricks on us?

For all that 1940s psychiatry was still a developing science, they understood what it felt like when someone’s own brain tries to destroy them. Poor Laird Crager, one of many actors martyred by the cruelties of Old Hollywood, gives a performance that captures such a feeling perfectly. The details of the plot may at times be routine melodrama, but the screeching whistle of the score as he closes his eyes and tries to steady himself is a beautiful depiction of torment. Hangover Square’s very title recalls the famous state, usually played for comedy, in which a character’s head pounds as they try and fail to recall the events of a previous debauched night. How much more frightening is that state when no drink was needed to provoke it?

“How could you like this fictional character? They’re a bad person!” — “How could you ship this fictional character with this other fictional character? That character is disgusting and a bad person while the character you ship them with is a good person and they hate each other in canon” are such funny takes because the whole point is that they’re fictional & you already lost the argument the second you say something like this, because by saying it, you imply that you think real people’s morality should be judged based on how they consume fictional media and in result, you end up implying other people, or you yourself, cannot separate fiction from reality. It’s okay to like a villain, fictional psychopath because you think their character is neat or well written or for whatever reason as long as your brain knows what the difference between fiction and reality is, and as long as you don’t go kill people in real life. I won’t think you’re a bad person just because you like a fictional character who, according to the fandom police, is disgusting.

“That character is dead” — and???? My brother in Christ they were never real to begin with. Joke’s on you if you think a character’s being canonically dead means people will automatically stop liking them when there’re thousands of fanarts, fanfics they can enjoy in which said character is alive and well. Or they can stay dead, the angst is just as delicious.

“This character is disgusting and a bad person” — again, you already lost the second you imply you think a person’s morality can be judged based on whether or not they like a fictional villain who’s “disgusting and messed up”

“These characters canonically hate each other so you can’t ship them” — there’re thousands of well written fics where characters who hate each other go from enemies to lovers, people can enjoy these. Or they can stay enemies, it’s so sexy when they try to unalive each other, actually.

They’re characters I don’t like, and there’re ships that make me uncomfortable, and I’ll admit there were times in the past where I got into arguments with people who have different opinions regarding which characters they hate or stan, or who they ship, etc, but I’ve never harassed people over fictional characters and I’ve learned to no longer engage with things I don’t like/ don’t agree with/ things that make me uncomfortable or are triggering to me, instead of interacting with them. I don’t go out of my way to tell other people how they can or can’t enjoy characters from movies or tv shows.

And since we’re at it, I’m shamelessly promoting characters who, according to the Fandom Police with High Moral Standards, are fvcked up and disgusting. Some of them are dead. You can either hate them or root for them, I don’t really care how you enjoy fictional characters, but here ya go:

An incredible array of talented comics artists and writers, spanning more than a half century of work and encompassing dozens of the most popular franchises in the history of the medium through the present will be on hand as FAN EXPO New Orleans today announced the Artist Alley headliners for the convention, set for January 5-7 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. also, most of these movies are more spooky than scary because i'm more of a slasher, creature and psychological thrillers type gal. ghosts and spirits aren't really for me but, i did put the babadook (2014) here just in case i have the urge to really get scared but, if i pussy out, i don't wanna hear nathan!!!!!!
