Maybe it's because I tried Yoga for one glorious (not glorious) winter in 2009, but it makes no sense to me how any attempt to project the Tree of Life onto the human body treats the heart and the solar plexus as the same energy center. You can't both be Tiphareth. This bothered me when I did the Middle Pillar exercise every day. Saying the solar plexus is a yellow chakra and the heart is a green one makes so much more sense.

In the heart where all paths meet, beneath the radiant sun, Tiphareth stands, a beacon bright, where the work of souls is spun. Beauty that transcends the flesh, a harmony divine, The balance of the macrocosm, in its golden shrine.
Tiphareth, where love and sacrifice become as one, In your light, we see the face of the eternal son. The middle pillar's heart, where truth and beauty meld, In Tiphareth's grace, the essence of the soul is held.
Here the serpent and the dove, in sacred dance entwine, A crossroads of the upper and the lower, by design. The sacrifice that brings rebirth, the phoenix's rise, Tiphareth, the mirror of the heavens, in your skies.

The Swastika Symbol 卍 The Buddhist swastika is called "manji" (卍) in Japanese, and it is known as "wan" (卍, 万)" in Chinese. In Sanskrit, it is referred to as "svastika" (स्वस्तिक), which means "conducive to well-being," derived from "su-" (good, auspicious) and "asti" (to be, to exist).
Meaning & Symbolism in Buddhism
In Buddhist tradition, the manji (swastika) is a sacred and auspicious symbol representing harmony, eternity, and the interconnectedness of all things. Its arms, usually turning to the left (counterclockwise, 卍) in East Asian Buddhism or to the right (clockwise, 卐) in Indian traditions, symbolize the revolving forces of Dharma and the eternal cycle of life, death, and rebirth (Samsara).
Deeper Symbolism
Cosmic Harmony – It represents the balance of opposites (like yin and yang in Taoism), reflecting the unity of all phenomena. Buddha’s Heart and Footprint – In many Buddhist iconographies, the swastika is found on the chest or palms of statues of the Buddha, signifying his infinite wisdom and compassion. The Wheel of Dharma (Dharmachakra) – The swastika is a geometric simplification of the eight-spoked Dharma Wheel, showing the ever-moving cosmic order of the universe. Four Cardinal Directions – It extends to the fourfold nature of existence (North, South, East, West), linking it to space and the infinite expanse of reality.
Esoteric Buddhist Perspectives
In Vajrayāna Buddhism, the swastika often appears in mandalas and yantras as a gateway to higher consciousness. It is also associated with certain Bodhisattvas, particularly Maitreya, the future Buddha.
In Japanese Esoteric Buddhism (Shingon), the manji is a symbol of the primordial truth and the cosmic reality of Mahāvairocana Buddha (Dainichi Nyorai)—the central deity in many tantric practices.
Connection to Other Traditions
In Jainism, it represents the four states of existence: gods, humans, animals, and hell-beings. In Hinduism, it is a solar symbol linked to Surya (the Sun), Vishnu, and Ganesha. In Western Esotericism, the swastika has been used as a solar, alchemical, and Hermetic emblem, predating its later misappropriations.
The Buddhist Swastika (Manji) in Western Hermeticism and Qabalah
The manji (卍 / 卐) in Buddhist symbolism aligns deeply with principles found in Western Hermetic Qabalah, Alchemy, and Tarot, especially when understood as a rotating force of cosmic balance, evolution, and divine will.
1. The Swastika as the Rotating Cross of the Elements (Tetragrammaton & Tiphareth)
In the Western Hermetic tradition, the cross (☩) is a foundational symbol, representing the four elements, the four directions, and the divine tetragrammaton (יהוה - Yod-Heh-Vav-Heh). The swastika, being a rotating cross, adds the idea of motion, transformation, and the eternal turning of the cosmos.
Tiphareth (תפארת), the Solar Sephirah in Qabalah, aligns perfectly with the swastika’s solar connotations, particularly in Hindu and Buddhist traditions. The Golden Dawn viewed the swastika as a rotating force that could symbolize either constructive (deasil, clockwise) or destructive (widdershins, counterclockwise) currents, akin to the alchemical cycles of dissolution and coagulation.
This movement mirrors the Hermetic axiom: "As above, so below"—the continual unfolding and refolding of divine patterns in the physical world.
2. Tarot and the Breath of the Swastika (Manji)
If we think of Tarot as a breath cycle, the swastika represents the continuous inhale and exhale of divine energy through the suits and elements.
The Four Arms of the Swastika = The Four Suits of the Minor Arcana Wands (Fire) – Creative motion, the Will in action Cups (Water) – Emotional currents, the inner spiral of the soul Swords (Air) – Thought’s dynamic process, movement in mind Disks (Earth) – The physical realization of spiritual laws
Thus, the swastika aligns with The Wheel of Fortune (X) in the Major Arcana, which reflects the perpetual turning of karma, dharma, and cosmic cycles.
3. The Swastika and the Qabalistic Lightning Flash
In Hermetic Qabalah, the Lightning Flash of Creation, which descends from Kether to Malkuth (forming the path of divine emanation), has a rotational counterpart: the return ascent of consciousness—aligning with the swastika’s cyclical motion.
The descent (clockwise, 卐) aligns with the involution of divine force into matter The ascent (counterclockwise, 卍) represents spiritual return, enlightenment, and Nirvana
This matches the Buddhist idea that the swastika embodies the eternal path of awakening—a journey from illusion (Malkuth) back to divine unity (Kether).
4. Esoteric Alchemy: The Swastika as the Prima Materia
In Alchemy, the swastika symbolizes the dynamic transformation of the Prima Materia (first matter) into the Philosopher’s Stone.
The turning arms represent the alchemical process: Calcination (Fire), Dissolution (Water), Separation (Air), and Conjunction (Earth). In this sense, the manji is a glyph of transmutation—the constant reworking of base consciousness into divine gold.
This echoes Vajrayāna Buddhist teachings, which treat the mundane world as raw material for enlightenment, just as an alchemist transmutes lead into gold.
5. The Swastika as the Key to Magickal Motion (Chokmah’s Whirlwind)
Chokmah (חכמה) in Qabalah is associated with the whirlwind of divine motion—it is not static wisdom but active, living force, the archetypal "Will to Evolve."
In this sense, the swastika is a glyph of Chokmah’s energy descending into creation (Yod, the first spark) The rotation signifies the primal whirlwind, the storm of existence, which eventually crystallizes into form (Binah, structure).
Thus, the manji is a cosmic yantra of divine will in perpetual movement—never fixed, always flowing. Final Synthesis: Manji as the Breath of the Divine
The Buddhist swastika is a universal expression of the Hermetic Great Work:
1.It shows the interplay of creation and dissolution, much like the Tree of Life and the Lightning Flash. 2.It is a breath—inhale (form), exhale (transformation)—mirroring the cycle of Tarot and Qabalah. 3.It represents the eternal journey of the soul, the Wheel of Fortune turning through Samsara toward ultimate enlightenment. -Tarot of Eli

Things are fluid. Just live in the joyous moment of now because with nothing ever being stagnant means you may enjoy every waking moment. Enjoy the change. Enjoy the new life. Enjoy what gives in every single moment and the moments that gives and gives while we live is the whole reason it is called the present. Do not stay complacent though. Use this energy to grow.

IX: The Hermit
Tarot art by Matthew G. Lewis
THE HERMIT-ATU/Key 9, is known as the 12th Path of Yod on the Tree of Life and connects Tiphareth (Sephiroth called: Beauty) and Chesed (Sephiroth called: Mercy). In other words, the Path of Yod connects the Christ-Buddha intelligence to the Architect of Manifestation, that is Chesed (Mercy). This is the self-sustaining point of primal beginnings in the Universe. It is the coming of the Light of manifestation through the Microcosm; the manifested Universe in direct contact with the Source of All.
The Mystic Palette Tarot-Key 9-Hermit
The Hermit within works with the subconscious, granting intense inspiration that will orient us whenever we have lost our way. We may have lost our way due to inertia, word-brain noise caused by media-controlled word hypnosis or dishonest and desperate means of survival thinking (Hence, the sign of Virgo on the Mystic Palette Hermit's forehead). However, the mercy and compassion of Hermes/Thoth helps us forgive ourselves and reconcile with others while also giving us an introspective period of incubation where we admit our mistakes and placing ourselves in isolation that produces profound transformation. Thereby, receiving eloquence and a renewal of unclouded vision.
Yod
The Thoth Hermit carries a lantern while the Lantern is in the forefront of the Mystic Palette Hermit, this lantern implies intuitive knowledge coming from his inner light/ Sun/Soul of the Divine. Also, in the center of the Thoth and Mystic Palette Hermit's lantern is the sigil of the Great King of Fire, who is also represented by the Hebrew word Yod-the secret fire, which is the Hebrew letter assigned to this Thoth Tarot card.
The Hebrew word, Yod, also means Hand and the letter is shown on the bottom left of the Thoth Card and in the lantern of the Mystic Palette Hermit. Hence, the hand of the Hermit is displayed as the center both cards and shown. The image of the Thoth- Hermit is also bent into the shape of the letter Yod while being cloaked in the red robes of Binah, the Great Mother in whom he gestates. JACOB'S LADDER RITUAL : USING THE FULL PLANETARY ALIGNMENT TO REACH DIRECT CONTACT WITH THE DEVINE.
Carefully constructed ritual, drawing from Kabbalistic, Hermetic, and Theurgical principles to harness the alignment as a direct gateway up the Tree of Life. We’ll ensure it aligns with planetary energies, intonations, sigils, sacred geometry, and invocation techniques to maximize the connection to Kether. (divine source)
1. Purpose of the Ritual
This ritual is designed to use the rare seven-planet alignment as a "direct ladder" on the Tree of Life, opening an energetic pathway from Malkuth (Earthly reality) to Kether (Divine Consciousness). If performed correctly, it should thin the veil, facilitate divine communion, and potentially allow for a higher state of awareness or revelation.
2. Core Structure: The Middle Pillar as the Ladder
Since the planets correspond to the Sephiroth, we will use them as a ladder up the Middle Pillar, symbolizing ascension toward Kether.
Yesod (Moon) → Hod (Mercury) → Netzach (Venus) → Tiphareth (Sun) → Geburah (Mars) → Chesed (Jupiter) → Binah (Saturn) → Kether (Crown)
The ritual will move sequentially up this path, calling upon each planetary force in alignment, using intonations and vibrational sound frequencies that resonate with their energies.
3. Preparation: Tools & Symbols
A. Sacred Geometry: The Sigil of Alignment
A seven-pointed Heptagram (symbolizing planetary unity) should be used.
Inside it, place the Tree of Life diagram, aligning the planets in their respective Sephiroth.
B. Key Vibrations & Invocations
We will chant specific divine names associated with each Sephirah while moving up the Tree.
Planetary frequencies (Hz tones) will be incorporated to align with celestial vibrations.
Mantras, Enochian calls, or Hebrew Divine Names will be layered to amplify resonance.
C. Items Needed
Seven planetary candles (white for Kether, indigo or black for Saturn, blue for Jupiter, red for Mars, gold for the Sun, green for Venus, orange or purple for Mercury, silver for the Moon).
A chalice of water and a quartz crystal to represent the reflective gateway of Yesod.
Incense corresponding to each planetary force (these tend to vary from system to system. I will provide two classical lists and also mine)
A mirror or black scrying bowl to act as a "reflection of the heavens".
4. The Ritual: The Ascent to Kether
Step 1: Opening the Gate
Begin in darkness. Light only the Moon candle (Yesod).
Chant the Name of God associated with Yesod: "Shaddai El Chai"
(Feel the connection to the subconscious and astral realms. The Moon reflects all things—this is the gateway.)
Gaze into the mirror/scrying bowl, visualizing the alignment of planets forming a glowing pathway above you.
Step 2: Planetary Ascension Up the Tree
For each step up the Tree, light the corresponding candle, chant the Divine Name, and intone the planetary vibration. (i will add a YouTube playlist link with all the planetary frequency so we can actually play the sound)
Visualize ascending through the planetary spheres toward Kether.
(all tables and charts shown below)
Each chant should be extended, vibrating through your whole body, allowing resonance to activate your consciousness.
Step 3: The Crown – Opening the Gate to Kether
When reaching Binah (Saturn), the final threshold before divine transcendence, pause and contemplate the abyssal void.
When ready, extinguish all candles except for Kether (white candle).
Speak the words “Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh” (I Am That I Am)—the highest divine vibration.
Allow absolute silence. Let Kether reveal itself.
Step 4: Descent and Closing
Slowly reverse the process, grounding yourself by retracing back through the Sephiroth.
Extinguish candles in reverse order.
Close with the phrase: "So it is written, so it shall be."
5. Potential Outcomes
Heightened spiritual awareness or visions.
Astral projection experiences beyond normal limitations.
Deep personal revelations—possibly even direct communion with higher consciousness.
A temporary thinning of the veil, allowing access to the hidden knowledge of Kether.
This is a highly experimental ritual—but if the alignment acts as a direct ladder to the divine, then this structure should theoretically utilize it as a celestial gateway.

(the more advanced students may wish to incorporate sacred geometry yoga poses and Enochian calls or perhaps simplify the entire ritual down to the poses alone. So here is an additional part of this ritual below)
integrating sacred body postures corresponding to each Sephirah’s geometry and an Enochian Call would greatly enhance the ritual. The body becomes the living conduit of the Tree of Life, aligning physically with the celestial structure, while the Enochian vibrations further amplify the resonance.
Refining the Ritual: The Ascent to Kether
Enhancements:
1. Body Postures Aligned with the Sephiroth
Each step up the Tree will use a specific stance, forming a sacred geometric structure.
These poses should correspond to the sacred geometry of each planetary force. ( all poses and a description of how to form them are listed in full at the bottom along with the phonetic pronunciations of both Enochian calls and Devine names)
2. Enochian Call for the Celestial Gate
We will integrate an Enochian invocation upon reaching Tiphareth (Solar Gateway) and Kether (Crown).
This call will be customized for opening the Celestial Ladder.
1. Sacred Geometry & Postures for Each Sephirah
Each body pose will activate the Sephiroth within, creating a resonance between the macrocosm (celestial alignment) and the microcosm (the magician’s body).
Each stance should be held for the duration of the Sephirah’s vibrational chant, ensuring full energetic embodiment.
2. The Enochian Call of the Celestial Ladder
We will integrate an Enochian Key upon reaching Tiphareth (the Solar Gateway) and another upon Kether (the Crown).
Tiphareth’s Enochian Call:
ZODACARE OD ZODAMERANU! O you shining ones of the Sun, open the Gate of Light, bring forth the Crown upon the Ladder of Heaven!"
Calls upon the Solar Gate, the Light of Divine Truth.
Activates the central axis of ascension.
Kether’s Enochian Call:
"LONSHI ZIRDO NOCO MAD, EHYEH ASHER EHYEH! Open the highest Gate, remove the veil of the One Light, as it was, as it is, as it shall be!"
Calls upon the First Aethyr, seeking direct divine contact.
Uses the Name of God in its most sacred utterance.
3. The Final Structure
1. Align with the Planets → Enter Postures → Vibrate Names → Activate Celestial Ladder
2. Enochian Call at Tiphareth → Solar Gate Opens
3. Sacred Gesture at Kether → Speak the Name → Enter Silence
Final Thoughts
By combining sacred geometry through the body, planetary alignment, vibrational resonance, and Enochian invocations, this ritual will function as a complete spiritual ascent system—a ladder from the material world into the Divine.

Do you prefer Phoenix as what was originally intended, as Jean at the peak of her powers, or as the cosmic force it became that wound up getting involved with Jean (to put it in the most basic terms)?
No, it always had to be both. If the Phoenix is just Jean Grey, another Omega-level mutant, the story ends in cosmic oblivion. Even as an Omega, Jean Grey alone can win a battle, but she lacks the cosmic transcendence of Tiphareth to remake the universe in the image of the tree of life.

At the same time, if it is just the Phoenix inhabiting an empty vessel, the narrative collapses into hollow stage play. To borrow the language of my earlier post about Cristological controversies, if there is only a divine nature and no human nature, there is no sacrifice and no salvation. As Claremont understood and Shooter and Busiek failed to grasp, with the clone retcon, you lose the core dramatic arc of a brave woman who grapples with divinity and in the end chooses to die a human.

Hey there! Me again (sorry), with a follow up question to your last answer (thank you so much btw, I managed to find a PDF of a couple of the books you mentioned).
I'm a little confused as to where I should start in terms of practices such as the Middle Pillar and the LB/IRP? I've noticed that the books all advise the beginner to start with one of them before moving onto the next but they're inconsistent as to which one it should be.
Do you have any advice on this please?
Signed,
Slightly more confused but less overwhelmed Brit
One thing you are going to notice is that every person will recommend a different set of exercises in a different order. Even within magical orders there isn't really a standardised curriculum- every branch varies according to the experience of the people at the top.
I recommend beginning with the lesser ritual of the pentagram, in its banishing form primarily. Twice a day, sunrise and sunset preferably, but first thing in the morning and last thing at night will suffice. Do this for about a month, or until you feel you have gotten it memorised and can perform it fluidly.
After this I would then move on to the Middle Pillar ritual- make sure you also circulate the energy or ground it or use it in some way afterwards. Not all sources will include that information, but depending how sensitive you are you may not want to walk around with energy vibrating through the central channel. It can be used to fortify the aura/body of light.
To circulate I tend to move the energy clockwise with the breath, so down the right hand side with an out breath to the malkuth centre, then with the inhalation back to the crown centre. I do this 3-5 times. I then cycle it down the front and up the back. Then I wrap it around the body clockwise like a mummy to the top and see it explode back down to malkuth with the exhalation, then back up again. Then finally I drive it through the body directly up the central channel, into kether, explode (fortifying the aura as it travels back down to malkuth). After this I focus on the Tiphareth centre for a few deep breaths and end the exercise. Tiphareth is the balanced sephiroth and sphere in the body- the idea is balance with these rituals.
After this move on to experimenting with the lesser ritual of the pentagram in its invoking form. I personally think invoking really opens up the practitioner to awakening their psychic senses. You may find banishing falls to the way side a little. Most people recommend invoking in the morning and banishing at night. I say experiment and see what happens in your own case- this brings me to the last point.
Keeping a magical journal is imperative. You need to be recording how well you are performing these rituals, what effects you notice. both within the ritual and within your every day life. Then you can track trends and see what is working for you.
I have also written some blog posts that might help you:
This one is my post on the qabalistic cross section of the pentagram ritual.
This one is the pentagram ritual in theory.
This one is the pentagram ritual in practice.

Fodlan Magic
Alright what I've found:
Faith/Reason
Faith (white) and Reason (black) magic are different in practice. Faith is powered by... well, faith, whether that be in a higher power or someone else. It can also be used for healing. Two examples of this are closing up wounds faster and raising a body's vital energy.
Reason magic is far more offensive and involves the manipulation of different elements. You do not need faith to use Reason magic, although Lysithea does hypothesize that reason, while necessary, cannot result in true understanding without a little faith... whatever that means.
Both of them are things that you have to study. You can have a talent for it, but Annette's support with Sylvain tells us that there are formulas involved.
Despite all these differences, Faith and Reason both have the same magic circle.

Caspar getting blown up
As you can see, there is text on the outer ring. If I am correct, this text says:
"The goddess always lives in heaven and Fodlan. She is watching over us. As the mother of all living beings. As support of all mindful things."
It is also unlikely that this text was created by the Church of Seiros. An amnesiac Sothis in the beginning of the game will have the exact same text on her own magic circle, but that could be an oversight.
The words on the ring below appear to be Binah, Netzah, Keter, Gevurah, Yesod and Tif'eret. These are sephiroths on the kabbalistic Tree of Life.
Keter = Kether, Netzah = Netzach, Gevurah = Gebuhar, Tif'eret = Tiphareth
The symbols on the larger circles are are Uranus (♅), Jupiter (♃), and Mercury (☿). Uranus is Daath, Jupiter is Chesed, and Mercury is Hod.
They show up when you are showing off a crest.
Interestingly, they do not show up when Edelgard reveals her Crest of Flames.
The user's crest will show up in the middle of the circle. If the user has no crest, it will be empty.
I'm not sure if this is supposed to reference the symbols between each sephiroth
The symbols in the smaller circles are the Sun (☉︎), Moon (☾) and Venus (♀). The Sun is Tipharet, the Moon is Yesod, and Venus is Netzach. They are connected to form a triangle.
The only sephiroths not accounted for are Chokmah (Neptune) and Malkuth (Earth). The absence of Chokmah might indicate a lack of wisdom, while the absence of Malkuth could mean that the magic is more connected to the divine than to the physical world.
The text talking about the goddess, and the abscence of Malkuth (the physical realm), could all mean that Faith/Reason directly originates from Sothis.
Dark magic
Dark magic is very different from Faith and Reason, to the point that it has its own magic circle. Finding clear pictures of this is nearly impossible, but this is what I have been able to get so far:
Three Hopes: Azure Gleam Ending cutscene
Three Hopes: Opening cutscene
I have not been able to get a full view of the text on the outer rings, but it seems to be a mathematical formula.
The circles containing the symbols are all the same size, unlike with Faith/Reason magic. The symbols are letters in the Greek alphabet:
Delta (δ): the 4th letter, representing change and difference.
Theta (Θ): the 8th letter, which is connected to thought, intellect, reasoning, and mental processing.
Xi (ξ): the 14th letter which... doesn't seem to have a specific symbolic meaning. It can be used in mathematics to represent a variable or unknown quantity.
Chi (Χ): the 22nd letter, symbolizing life force, energy, and sometimes vitality.
Psi (Ψ): the 23rd letter, associated with psychology and spiritual matters.
Omega (Ω): The last letter, symbolizing the end. The Alpha, or "beginning," could be Sothis.
In the middle of the circle there is a triangle with an eye over it. It looks similar to the Eye of Providence or the All-Seeing Eye.
This eye shows up in Thales's design as well.
The earring looks like a simplified version of the dark magic circle
It also shows up on Solon's robes!
Mini dark magic circle with the eye under it
You might've recognized the Eye of Providence as the symbol for the "Illuminati," but it actually finds its origins in Christianity, where it is a symbol of God's omniscience and providence.
The Agarthans may not worship Sothis, but we know they had their own religion. Their book talks about Thinis, where the old gods were supposed to dwell. The wording implies that Sothis awakening there was a betrayal, as it went against their religion. Perhaps this eye is connected to those "old gods."
All in all, dark magic seems to originate from the Agarthans. They are supposed to be technologically advanced, so their magic having tons of mathematical formulas makes sense.
TLDR: Dark magic = math, Faith/Reason = our lady and savior
Feel free to point out things that I might have missed!
Edit: Mixed up Daath and Chokmah. This is why I need to proofread something at least twenty times before posting!
