Purson had a solid start to the second set, but their ability to close things out became further tested toward the end of the match. J. Thompson might have started the set with a forehand return ace to set themselves ahead, but Krapuetz still held their serves to 2-1. Purson only got their break of serve at the end of the fifth game (3-2) thanks to their deep return to the tenth seeds' failed volley after J. Thompson's working smash created their break point. They then swiftly consolidated their lead to 4-2.
M. Purcell continued with a forehand return ace to set themselves a point ahead in the ninth game before somehow having 2 match points in return, but Krapuetz's intuitive volleys saved them before they scored a massive hold to 5-4. Somehow, M. Purcell's failed smash succeeded his double fault at the game that started with his forehand error for Krapuetz to break back to 5-5, where the German pair became more aggressive. A point construction using almost every angle then topped off the next game, where M. Purcell's successful smash was followed by T. Puetz's forehand error as he tried to retrieve the ball from the post, thus creating Purson's break point. However, Krapuetz saved them before holding their serves to 6-5.
Nonetheless, the second set tie-break became inevitable after J. Thompson held his serves for Purson to 6-6. There, K. Krawietz fired a working volley to secure Krapuetz's lead to 2-1 before holding their serves with an unreturned serve to 3-1, M. Purcell scored a crucial forehand return winner to equalize the point 3-2, followed by another return serve to 3-3. Two points later, a double fault from K. Krawietz had Purson led by a mini-break (5-4) before an unreturned serve confirmed their service game hold to 6-4. M. Purcell's ace clinched the championship perfectly for the Australian seventh seed, taking the second set 7-6(4) for their maiden Grand Slam title as a pair.

Miyu Kato, Tim Puetz win mixed doubles title at Roland Garros
Japan's Miyu Kato and Germany's Tim Puetz came from a set down to defeat Bianca Andreescu and Michael Venus to win the French Open Mixed Doubles.
The French Open is Kato's first Grand Slam title and caps off an emotional week for the 28-year-old Japanese doubles specialist, who was disqualified from the women's doubles competition after inadvertently hitting a ball girl with a ball. Along with Puetz, Kato was dominant through the team's run to the title. The duo did not lose a set en route to the final.
"It has been really challenging for me for the past few days," Kato said during the trophy speech. "I want to thank all the players, coaches, everyone for their heartfelt messages of support."

US Open MD F: Max Purcell/Jordan Thompson [7] def. Kevin Krawietz/Tim Puetz [10] 6-4, 7-6(4) Match Stats
📸 Eurosport LV
Krapuetz tried their best to increase their aggression toward the end of the second set, which fumbled Purson's match points on return before being able to break back. However, Purson regained that pace and anticipation that carried them from the beginning of the match in time during the tie-breaker, as they shifted the moment through M. Purcell's forehand return ace before finally serving it out moments after K. Krawietz's double fault. This way, even if both pairs had an equal ratio of winners-unforced errors (+11), Krapuetz scored more shot winners (29), while Purson committed more unforced errors (15).
Besides, first serves also played a huge part for the Australian pair to prevail at the end of the match. Even though they landed 67% of their first serves, they won 78% of their first serve points, 9% more than Krapuetz, whereas the German pair's second serves were capitalized on by the seventh seeds to strike the ball slightly more cleanly as the match went deeper even if Purson blown the earlier opportunity to serve for the match.
This marked M. Purcell/J. Thompson's maiden Grand Slam title as a pair after becoming the Wimbledon Championships runner-up not long ago, their fourth Tour-level title as a pair as well. Furthermore, this was also M. Purcell's second Grand Slam doubles title after Wimbledon 2022 (with Matthew Ebden), establishing themselves as one of the pairs likely finishing in the Top 8 at the end of the season. What a way to seal this as well!

ATP Challenger Lille, France, 23-3-2018, Men’s Doubles SF: Hugo Nys/Tim Puetz (FRA/GER) def. Stephane Robert/Tomasz Bednarek (FRA/POL) 6-2, 6-3
Good old Stephane Robert teamed up with Tomasz Bednarek but they were no match to Nys and Puetz. Puetz’ hard serve was a great weapon and this definitely helped winning this match as the opponents had no answer to Tim’s service games. Tim and Hugo looked like a solid team, communicating and playing well. Doubles as it should be.
